Online ads....
I think the problem is that in the age of "AI" and "machine learning" etc etc - the reality is that targeted or personalised advertising is absolutely shite.
All I see when I browse around are ads for things that I bought. It's like - I FUCKING BOUGHT THIS WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO SELL IT TO ME??!
I think anyone worried about the machine uprising enslaving humanity can relax and not worry about it, at least until amazon can understand when it has sold you something or you just looked at something.6 -

So we were trying to make a Go AI bot for our school project and then let it play against itself. Well... it might be able to beat AlphaGo, right?3

Hey guys it's not a rant, but i feel this place might help...
I am a 20 yr old, second year guy ...have got some experience in core Java and after that, i have been doing android for 8months... Yeah , i coded some basic apps got my hands dirty on firebase, sql libraries and some connectivity...
Even got landed in an internship.
Today i feel myself to be an intermediate android dev , nd i know their are many things that can be learnt in android that i don't know..
But what after that?development as a carrier interests me, but i fear for a job security ... I could learn more of Android, maybe learn ios after that but their are always articles coming out that react is future, webapps will replace android and stuff like that...
I Have also heard stuff like companies today want to squeeze more out of their techs, so they want less and complete developers having experience in both web and mobile app designing and other stuff like that
Are you freakin kidding me? Android and ios alone are like drinking Pacific and indian ocean and to add web developing, its like drinking out every drop of ocean in the world.
I guess their are guys which exist with knowledge of all three, maybe I can cover them all too(someday) but that would take my whole clg life of 4 years..(I guess)
And no ,I don't have problems with that too.. I actually like developing but again i hear big words like cloud computing, AR,VR AI, data sciences, automation, graphics designing, game dev, and many more...
Basically i hear too much and i fear too much 😅 and i don't think closing my ears would be a good choice...
So, which ocean of carrier should i aim to go for?nd are my fears real? Do companies really prefer some web guy designing Amazon like apps over android-only guys like me?is automation nd templates really gonna take all we, developers jobs?should i look into ai/data sciences?
Well , i am a simple guy, who got his first pc at 17 so naturally, i am fascinated even by the working of a calculator app and anything relates to tech so am open to pursue my interests in any fields23 -

After following the recent events and announcements, I'm thinking
Is Google seriously turning into an AI overload..?
What happened to "Don't be Evil"..?6 -
"Describe your profession in the worst way possible"
I'm a software developer. I work really hard to create solutions that will make everyone else lazier. At least until I help make sentient AI that ends up replacing me (or killing me) -
So it's 5 am and a random Snapchat adds me. Of course I know it's a bot. I tend to answer these because i'm curious of how clever the ai has become in these scams. Still hasn't improved in like 5 years. Here I am telling this ai how shitty it is at it's job and telling it how it could be better by using deep learning to copy the way others talk and actually be convincing and then I think to myself, "well damn, why don't I just build a better ai." Seriously thinking about it. Ended up leaving the chat after telling the ai to inform it's lizard overlords I am for hire if they want a better trap.

Sometime in the future someone will develop an AI that will study all of these rants and improve everything developers rant about.2

Why does it always follow the same format?
Me: we should do do and so because xyz. Alternatives are this and that because uvw.
Manager: no, I'll hire another manager.
[Q]uit, [T]ry again? T... fml
Manager 2: let's have a meeting.
Meeting almost ends up being about an entirely irrelevant topic. Barely get the requirements before the end of the day.
Me: write summary following conventions.
Manager 2: let's hire another manager. Manager 1: great idea, manager 2!
Manager 3: let's build a spaceship!
[D]evsplain, [R]agequit, [T]ry again?
class Manager:
"""This shouldn't be too hard..."""

So I was reading some info and watching videos about the D-Line/NASA/Google quantum computer. I understand why this thing was built but how the heck do you program something like that?
Anyone concerned that having such a powerful computer coupled with AI is slightly nerve wrenching?14 -

Paradoxon: if an AI gets good enough to pass the touring test, it would also be good enough to _not_ pass it 🤔6 -
AI enthusiasts are people who dunno programming. They have SK - superficial knowledge and a keen sense to get the buzzwords.
Also Blockchain enthusiasts are mostly bloke heads.1 -
AI has developed a lot since its inception. I think AI is the fu....ck you.
oops, it wasn't me. AI did that.3 -
10 hours ago I was trying to install manjaro on my laptop. I have run into problems with the nvidicancer drivers, as one would expect, but at least I had a working OS. I was following a video tutorial that instructed me to tweak some grub settings, and I was able to do it with no problem.
Now on the other hand, I am following the EXACT SAME procedure (same partition, same installer, same settings),but after I update-grub,everything freezes including the command itself.
How is it possible that doing the exact same procedure at different times of the day gives me two different results? Is my laptop sentient and simply "not in the mood" anymore, or what the fuck?7 -
**Wrongly edited last time, made it confusing. Deleted. Posting again. Apologies.**
So, scenario was like, we friends were chatting on WhatsApp and talking about Germany as one of us has shifted there recently. After a 30-40 mins chat, I clicked on Google to search for some company(say 'xyz') .... Now this searching for company and chatting with friends are totally separate events. But when I typed 'xyz' , google suggested "xyz career Germany" and 'xyz Germany glassdoor'.
My question is that is it possible that Google is taking records of what am I typing anywhere(I've android phone) and using that to decide which suggestions should it be showing to me? Or am I thinking too much? 😌9 -
1. Languages will evolve to make as short as possible in terms of lines of code. Shorter syntaxes all the way.
2. Each platform/part of architecture will have only 1-2 languages to code in. There will be convergence of languages. This is more to do with industry usage. Underground new languages will still continue to flourish.
3. Focus will be more on natural language. Both as research item for understanding humann languages better and possible movement of coding languages in the direction of natural languages. Natural syntax as much as possible.
4. Softwares will be self learning. Every interaction will result in the software to evolve as per your usage. That would mean the same software will behave differently for every user. This will be basis user's interaction.
5. Less physical interaction. More to do with what the user thinks. Intuitive.rant wk127 languages interaction coding coding in future software development ai to overtake humanity soon futuristic future future is now1 -

@dfox @trogus Is there any archive of all rants somewhere which one could download? It would be interesting to try to make an AI to write rants...3

I'm doing this internship because I'm a self taught programmer and I want to land a job at this obviously. Well I get this boss that first asks me for a chatbot. I'm a bit overwhelmed but decided to take it because didn't seem that complicated just time consuming. Then he goes and scale the chatbot to a full blown A.I. that talks, has a avatar reacting to emotions, has speech recognition and a lot of things. I been making progress on the normal bots you see around messenger and slack. I asked for more people to work for me and there is a guy who is working back-end and has never sit down and taught me his system even do I ask everyday for it. Seems like this internship is a waste of time. Any tips?10

I yell at my code. Probably irritating my fellow colIegues. I believe software is elusive, hard to catch and even if it has been running smoooooothly for months I still believe it is up to no good. In these days of the emerging of the "AI", things will become increasingly so. Folks will stare at the running system and ask:
"What's it doing!?"
"Don't know, but it can't be good"3
