An area sales rep once rang me to tell me his iPhone screen was cracked and was going blurry around some sections.
I told him to fetch me to look, and I will see what I can do.
5 minutes later I get a SCREENSHOT from his phone asking if I can see the crack and blurry edges.
HOW FUCKING DUMB ARE THESE PEOPLE!!!
I mean, come on. He seriously said when I called him: "But I can see the crack and blurry bits on the screenshot on my phone"4 -

An excerpt from the best rant about whiteboard interviews posted on the internet. Ever.
"Well, maybe your maximum subsequence problem is a truly shitty interview problem. You are putting your interview candidate in a situation where their employment hinges on a trivia question. — Kadane's algorithm! They know it, or they don't. If they do, then congratulations, you just met an engineer that recently studied Kadane's algorithm.
Which any other reasonably competent programmer could do by reading Wikipedia.
And if they don't, well, that just proves how smart the interviewer is. At which point the interviewer will be sure to tell you how many people couldn't answer his trivially simple interview question.
Find a spanning tree across a graph where the edges have minimal weight. Maybe one programmer in ten thousand — and I’m being generous — has ever implemented this algorithm in production code. There are only a few highly specific vertical fields in the industry that have a use for it. Despite the fact that next to no one uses it, the question must be asked during job interviews, and you must write production-quality code without looking it up, because surely you know Kruskal’s algorithm; it’s trivial.
Question: why are manhole covers round? Answer: they’re not just round, if you live in London; they're triangular and rectangular and a bunch of other shapes. Why is your interview question broken? Why did you just crib an interview question without researching whether its internal assumption was correct? Do you think that “round manhole covers are easier to roll" is a good answer? Have you ever tried to roll an iron coin that weighs up to 300 pounds? Did you survive? Do you think that “manhole covers are circular so that they don’t fall into manholes” is a good answer? Do you know what a curve of constant width is? Do you know what a Reuleaux triangle is? Have you ever even been to London?
If the purpose of interviewing was to play stump the candidate, I’d just ask you questions from my area of specialization. “What are the windowing conditions which, during the lapping operation on a modified discrete cosine transform, guarantee that the resynthesis achieves perfect reconstruction?” The answer of course is the Princen-Bradley condition! Everyone knows that’s when your windowing function satisfies the conditions h(k)2+h(k+N)2=1 (the lapping regions of the window, squared, should sum to one) and h(k)=h(2N−1−k) (the window should be symmetric). That’s fundamental computer science. So obvious, even a child should know the answer to that one. It’s trivial. You embarrass your entire extended family with your galactic stupidity, which is so vast that its value can only be stored in a double, because a float has insufficient range:"

So I persuaded my boss to buy me 2 extra wide monitors (2560x1080).
They're way to big and my neck hurts. After few months, I stopped using edges, and keep all my editors and browsers in the center of my viewpoint, leaving edges empty.
My desk is also too small, and I don't have space for anything else other than monitors.
We programmers have it rough :(6 -
Devs are known to give up quickly especially beginners...all I can say to them is..
...there is nothing like smooth mountains, you have to go through the ragged edges and valley's to get to the top...
Don't stop Coding... and dont give up.1 -
I would like to take a moment and recognize LiLi as the possibly most outlandish design for any software ever without looking horribly ugly. I mean just fucking look at it, it heavily relies on transparency, it uses traffic lights, it uses weird glowing bars, you cannot resize it, you cannot minimize it, it has this random mash of colors in the logo, it heavily relies on gradients, the border edges are very rounded and aliased, you have no idea where the boundaries of the fucking thing is.
Overall, its fucking great guys. I have no idea where the inspiration came from, but possibly the windows aero and a mishmash of other things?

How can Google or Samsung allow this murder? The rounded boxes are stuck to the edges? This is a crime. It's disgusting. Apple will never let this pass. They call this One UI or something.

Am I the only one who thinks DevRant should have a proper desktop website instead of just making us navigate in a stretched out version of the mobile app?
Don't get me wrong, I love this place, but a desktop website would sure be nice! :D7 -
I do not like the direction laptop vendors are taking.
New laptops tend to feature fewer ports, making the user more dependent on adapters. Similarly to smartphones, this is a detrimental trend initiated by Apple and replicated by the rest of the pack.
As of 2022, many mid-range laptops feature just one USB-A port and one USB-C port, resembling Apple's toxic minimalism. In 2010, mid-class laptops commonly had three or four USB ports. I have even seen an MSi gaming laptop with six USB ports. Now, much of the edges is wasted "clean" space.
Sure, there are USB hubs, but those only work well with low-power devices. When attaching two external hard drives to transfer data between them, they might not be able to spin up due to insufficient power from the USB port or undervoltage caused by the impedance (resistance) of the USB cable between the laptop's USB port and hub. There are USB hubs which can be externally powered, but that means yet another wall adapter one has to carry.
Non-replaceable [shortest-lived component] mean difficult repairs and no more reserve batteries, as well as no extra-sized battery packs. When the battery expires, one might have to waste four hours on a repair shop for a replacement that would have taken a minute on a 2010 laptop.
The SD card slot is being replaced with inferior MicroSD or removed entirely. This is especially bad for photographers and videographers who would frequently plug memory cards into their laptop. SD cards are far more comfortable than MicroSD cards, and no, bulky external adapters that reserve the device's only USB port and protrude can not replace an integrated SD card slot.
Most mid-range laptops in the early 2010s also had a LAN port for immediate interference-free connection. That is now reserved for gaming-class / desknote laptops.
Obviously, components like RAM and storage are far more difficult to upgrade in more modern laptops, or not possible at all if soldered in.
Touch pads increasingly have the buttons underneath the touch surface rather than separate, meaning one has to be careful not to move the mouse while clicking. Otherwise, it could cause an unwanted drag-and-drop gesture. Some touch pads are smart enough to detect when a user intends to click, and lock the movement, but not all. A right-click drag-and-drop gesture might not be possible due to the finger on the button being registered as touch. Clicking with short tapping could be unreliable and sluggish. While one should have external peripherals anyway, one might not always have brought them with. The fallback input device is now even less comfortable.
Some laptop vendors include a sponge sheet that they want users to put between the keyboard and the screen before folding it, "to avoid damaging the screen", even though making it two millimetres thicker could do the same without relying on a sponge sheet. So they want me to carry that bulky thing everywhere around? How about no?
That's the irony. They wanted to make laptops lighter and slimmer, but that made them adapter- and sponge sheet-dependent, defeating the portability purpose.
Sure, the CPU performance has improved. Vendors proudly show off in their advertisements which generation of Intel Core they have this time. As if that is something users especially care about. Hoo-ray, generation 14 is now yet another 5% faster than the previous generation! But what is the benefit of that if I have to rely on annoying adapters to get the same work done that I could formerly do without those adapters?
Microsoft has also copied Apple in demanding internet connection before Windows 11 will set up. The setup screen says "You will need an Internet connection…" - no, technically I would not. What does technically stand in the way of Windows 11 setting up offline? After all, previous Windows versions like Windows 95 could do so 25 years earlier. But also far more recent versions. Thankfully, Linux distributions do not do that.
If "new" and "modern" mean more locked-in and less practical and difficult to repair, I would rather have "old" than "new".10 -
After I picked up cooking, I dialed in a classic Russian pancakes recipe of my grandma (the babushka) and made it sugar-free. I cook those pancakes for my wife every Saturday, and she says they taste heavenly.
So, here’s the recipe of kiki’s pancakes:
- 8 eggs, 150g of 82% butter, 300g of flour, baking powder, 800ml of 3.2% fat milk. If you have a blender, it’ll make things easier
- let them sit and make all of them the same temperature
- take 8 eggs, add milk, stir
- liquify the butter in the microwave, add, stir
- sift the flour in while stirring continuously
- let it sit for 30 minutes
- take a pan, add little butter or sunflower seed oil, make it scary hot
- after you pour, flip the pancake when its top gets dry
to flip them easily, spread pastry wide when pouring, overlapping frying pan edges. Then, use those edges (now bone dry) to flip the pancake. After you’re done, those edges (now almost black) will break away, leaving a perfect pancake. This works especially well if you don’t have a good non-stick frying pan.
enjoy!

The intense moment when there are thousands of people eager to use a new website you developed and there are still bugs and rough edges but the launch time is in 2hrs.
Needless to say I'm pretty nervous. -
My story about ego boost was when client came one day that they want some system that was prommised to him but guy who promissed him it forgotten about it.
Well, i quickly estimated things in head (i wasnt on meeting, was next to this room so i heared whats up), i pulled out my boss from meeting ("hey i need you urgently for sth") told him that i can make proof of concept to show him for next day (it was +-15) and sure enough, next day 10:00 first version that worked but was kindda rough around edges and with TON of technical debt was created. Than I told client that I just need a little bit more time to work on this as he can see it is here, it works, and it does what he needs, but it would be good to add some polish to it.
He bought my version and i saved company a client, that was lost becose some moron forgotten about him hah
Oh, yes, i got all i needed in return, day off and some extra $$ -
A guy came to me with a laptop that wouldn't boot. After some poking around, I opened the machine just to find everything submerged in coffee. No sh*t your computer doesn't work..3

Client: I need the push notification to have purple edges with blue background.
Me: I'm sorry. Apple does not have a support for such customization. What we can do is modify title, description and also add an overview image.
Client: No, you can make it purple edges with blue background. I saw it on dribble!
Me: *Logs out*.9 -
Yeah. Kinda late to the WK 227 party.
Thing is: I've read a lot of rants and honestly, some of the rants were ... touchy.
Like that weird emotional thingy you don't like but that just kind of happens cause I'm human too.... And have that shitty emotional feature integrated, which feels most of the time like a heisenbug.
Me and my parents. Specifically mom. Are like ... Matter and antimatter.
You don't want them in a room. Bad things happen TM. My mom is responsible for ... Let's say severe psychological trauma starting with age 4 to age 17.
In 17 I moved out and lived on "my own" (truth: on heavy support, cause I wasn't what you'd called "psychologically stable" at that time).
I fucked up university and - as shared before - thanks to an math teacher who made my life an even more living hell and my parents, I'd started in IT mostly out of "resisting" certain assertations being made over my life.
The support I got from my family can be put together in one sentence:
"I survived, I tolerated - but will never forgive".
Thing is: Be it IT support or anything else. If your gut feeling tells you that family / coworkers / friends are not good for you.
Stay the fuck away from them till you've sorted yourself out.
I can tolerate my parents nowadays. Took > 10 years and a lot of hardships to "achieve" that.
It's not peachy. It's not loving. It's tolerance. (Yeah. That bit is muey importante to me).
The thing is: I cannot deny the fact that my parents tried to support me by money. That's what they still do _nowadays_ even though my income is like 60 % of the income my father and mother has combined... It's a bothersome detail.
There's a certain thing in this rant that I would like "to pass on": Emotional support matters.
When you let someone feel like an empty shell, you cannot fix it with money.
It will - severely - destroy the person.
TLDR: We all have rough edges, can be hard to deal with and be a pain in the arse, but all of us need emotional support sometimes. That's what matters the most. ;)1 -
About to demo my OS project for a systems programming class. Weird artifacting happening on the right edge of the screen (garbage characters, wrong color, etc.). VGA graphics are too arcane an art for me to figure out in time, so I draw a 1 block thick border around the whole screen and pretend I meant to do it. I updated that bitch every single frame to make sure nothing would ever be drawn on the edges. I got bonus points for making it look nicer.1

Over a year ago I posted a screenshot of chrome vs edge, and chrome had 92 processes consuming 2.1GB RAM vs edges 19 processes consuming 3.2GB RAM
Just seen this... WTF google, how can you need soooo much ram, I thought you had fixed your high memory issues!!!

Am I the only one bothered by the way devRant ( and to be fair also Twitter) previews images?
It just kinda crops some unknown up front amount of edges. It's annoying in and of itself, but also directs viewer focus to some arbitrary part of the picture, and you can't unsee it even after opening the whole thing...
Is there really no better way to handle the issue of size? How can that be a good UX ??1 -
So today a drawer above my desk fell, but sadly my MacBook Air was under it, now I had a cushion based cover and a hard shell case for my Mac. However the edges of drawer penetrated the cover and case leaving a dent on the back. Which somehow means I don’t get the display but everything else is working (ie keys and sound).
Now I have to push an important bug fix and screen replacement will take at least 10-12 days.

So i found this the other day and thought i would share it with you.
It's a collection of short little songs inspired by HTTP status codes.
Neat idea but is a little rough around the edges.

well developer life is shit in a political environment
>> Task 1 is given to sr. dev
>> Task 2 is given to jr dev
>> Sr dev gives estimate for task as 2 days. no questions asked
>> Jr dev gives estimate for task as 5 days, whole team starts negotiating (the st dev being the loudest voice"
>> jr dev ends up with a timeline of 4 days.
(btw task is heavy enough for 5 proper days)
both start work
>> jr dev does the task in 3 days, tries to clear out edges, run test cases, clear doubts (thats also a shitty side rant) and submit a perfect task by day 4
>> sr dev starts fast on day1, takes leave on day 2, works on some urgent bug fix on day 3 and delivers task somehow on day 4
>> both gets new tasks on day 5 . this time sr dev still has prod fixes while jr dev is again doing a large task in bad estimates
>> bugs come on day 6. jr dev task bugs 2. sr dev task bugs 25
>> all bugs get aligned to jr dev because sr dev is working on high priority task
wtf? why am i supposed to fix other people's shit? btw this guy is module lead (next position for SSE) now and i am still the junior dev, and we 2 joined the org on the same day :/
he can't follow proper code architecture, writes shit code and he is getting the wins. I am cleaning everyone's mess and i am getting the stick
this is shit life3 -

yesterday I bought a cool domain in namecheap, I was very lucky to find short and good one for my case.
Today (at weekends!!!!) I receive a letter:

what if I did not notice it in 24 hours? It is the weekend for god's sake! People usually rest until monday.
They would what, cancel order and scalpel it to super high price?!
I have some doubts if the request is trully having anti fraudulent origins.
What if I used digital visa card? How was I supposed to photo it?
And the service they provided for photoing accepts only photos from web camera. I was lucky that I bought recently web camera with high enough amount of pixel power and manual focus. What if I did not?
That's all really SUS!
The person can not notice the letter within 24 hours time frame until the morning, when it would be already too late.10 -
Clicked on a funny devRant post
Chuckled immensely
Clicked back arrow
Still saw image and back arrow
Spammed back but nothing happened
Turns out the burn-in on my phone is so bad that it still shows that back arrow on the rant feed...
P.S. After typing that I saw that the edges of gboard was also burned into my display uggghhhhh3 -
Alright fellow sweaty programmers, mama Kiki is here to teach you the basics of hygiene.
TEETH
- If you have a toothpaste prescription, use it.
- Every single whitening toothpaste is a scam. Don’t use them.
- Every single over-the-counter toothpaste that decreases sensitivity does work. If your teeth are sensitive, use it.
- Otherwise, buy the cheapest name-brand toothpaste.
- Use dental floss. As long as it’s flat and waxed, the cheapest one will do.
- When flossing, never move the floss back and forth as if you try to saw through your gums. Just put the floss in, then out. Repeat if necessary.
- Don’t put your toothpaste on your toothbrush. Put a small amount of it directly in your mouth with a bit of water. Close your mouth and spread toothpaste all over your teeth using a rinsing motion, as if it was mouthwash. Now your teeth are completely covered.
- When brushing teeth, don’t use -90°/0°/90° angles. Use -35°/35°. This way you will spend less time while getting better cleansing. Bristle ends should touch where your teeth meet your gums.
- Get yourself a tongue scrubber. Scrub your tongue until what comes off of it is clean. Dirty tongue is why your breath smells bad, not dirty teeth.
- After you’re done, don’t rinse! Spit the toothpaste out, but let its residue stay there. The remineralization process is now started. If you follow the routine, you don’t need mouthwash at all.
- Drinking/eating sugary things, not washing your teeth and going straight to bed is the best way to get cavities ASAP. In your mouth, sugar quickly turns into the kind of acid that we use for soldering. It can strip the oxide layer off of copper. Do you know how after you drink Coke, your teeth become almost squeaky clean? That’s this. If you like sugary drinks, carefully drink them using a straw. Rinse immediately after you’re done drinking & eating.
SHAVING
- Get yourself an old-school safety T-razor, the one that takes suicide blades. It will last a lifetime. Mühle and Merkur are good manufacturers (not affiliated). Once you have it, for the rest of your life, you will only buy blades. This is the most environmentally friendly way to get a clean, close shave. Electric razors save water, but they often contain batteries.
- Because of how violently electric razor’s blades hit hair while cutting it, they chip your hair. This leads to your freshly grown hair being sharp, rough and unpleasant to the touch. The manual razor, on the other hand, produce clean edges. When your hair grows back, it will be softer than what you get with an electric razor.
- Feather brand blades (not affiliated) are the sharpest in the world. The sharper the blade, the less traumatic it is. Watch T-razor tutorials on YouTube. There are different shaving techniques that will get you a killer shave.
- T-razor blades last considerably longer than their modern soyboy single-use counterparts.
- Because of a single blade construction, T-razor almost never leaves irritation.
- Basically, modern single-use plastic blades are horrible for the environment, and they’re almost a scam for how much you get for your money. They’re only rivaled by printer ink. Use them only for intimate shaving, as they’re considerably handier down there.
- Always shave after hot shower.
- Before shaving, dry the skin surface. Apply shaving foam on dry skin only, as it contains chemicals that make your hair softer. When diluted, they’re not as effective, and shaving unsoftened hair is almost always unpleasant and dangerous.
- After applying the foam, wait about a minute for the foam to work. If the skin gets irritated, don’t wait for as long, or perhaps try a different foam brand.
- Before shaving, thoroughly clean your razor with hand sanitizer or ethanol. Ideally, it should be sterile. Using boiling hot water is also a good option, just be careful with it.
- After shaving, rinse off foam, immediately dry your skin with a clean towel, then apply aftershave. After applying it, don’t touch your skin until it completely dries. If you follow this routine, your skin won’t get any pimples, guaranteed.
- Scrubs won’t help you. Don’t use them.

Microsoft is always at it.
Hello, I recently discovered this eye candy of a looking website and how good the CSS looks (Kudos to whoever made this) , and I decided to post a rant of my own. And its about MS Edge and other applications.
So I built my own ATX tower a while back (Loving it) , and I found that it was WONDERFUL to have a computer that was brand new, that didnt have candy crush preinstalled on it when I got it.
Windows 10 users, do this:
Press WIN+I to open the settings menu.
Go to "Apps"
Scroll down the list....
How many applications do you see there that are actually useful , or that you have downloaded?
I never downloaded a Realtek Driver... and I never need it for anything to work. This is the case for 90% of the things you may see in the applications.
Why is HULU installed?
Why is NETFLIX installed?
Why is MINECRAFT BETA INSTALLED? THE BETA HASNT BEEN OUT IN YEARS?
But I digress, this is the case when I work on a computer such as my grandmothers who, bless her soul, isnt very adept at basic file management. Heck , she uses free Norton Antivirus against my recommendation to use the PAID active firewall application on her computer (VIPRE)
So needless to say she needs help. All the time.
So here comes microsoft recently, reinstalling like 15 different programs on her computer , including MS edge. Who else is tired of bloating? I know I am.
I recently found this program on Git!
Its the Sycnex Windows 10 DeBloater
But guess what? DONT USE IT.
Wanna know why?
Because if you do, it works, and if it works, it disables:
- Cortana (basic search engine for your OS, good luck finding candy crush).
- Microsoft Store (That means no XBOX games pass either)
- It breaks part of the file explorer
Wanna know why? BeCaUsE it geTs riD oF Ms EdGe
And believe it or not, apparently MS edges source code is Mandatory for certain functions on your computer. So even If you try to uninstall the browser, it stays behind in some form.
So there you have it. They hard coded it into windows.
Enjoy!
So its not even the author of the GITHUB programs fault, its just a real techincal limitation of the platform.
I hate that stuff man. I really do. There should be 20 things installed on my computer and thats it. Everything else is just, space for games on a solid state. Or Eclipse Photon, etc.
I would post links to show you guys a few things but. Unfortunately I cant post URLs yet!
However, thats my first rant. Hope you liked it.20 -
Graphs and clustering changed my perception of the world. I caught myself thinking of random shit in clusters and edges, and now I realized I have been doing this for a while.
•I caught myself thinking the following a few minutes ago:
While taking a shower, for unexplained reasons, I started visualizing different groups of friend’s throughout my life and how their connection/relationship to its group (centroid AKA leader) had a significant influence on how each individual behaved. After doing this for five groups - I proceeded to label them in classes of behaviors and noticed why each friend behaved a certain way. Wtf right? 😂4 -
Dah, I wish I was better at painting. The easiest kind too - painting a room, not a picture. It's fine until I get to the edges. Then I mask off the area I don't want to paint, pull of the tape but no - turns out it's wonkier than a drunk student trying to walk in a straight line.
Go to touch it up, miss, get paint on the other bit I was trying to avoid. Great. Try taping it again - straighter this time - and it works, but then rips off chunks of paint when I take the tape off. Go to touch those bits up, then in my haste splatter it on the floor.
Seriously, how anyone can be this bad at this is beyond me.9 -
I got many reasons to hate my old Dell Studio-1557, but if there is one thing I love about it, it is its keyboard. I don't have much technical keyboard knowledge, but it's just comfortable for me. Wide keys and short keystrokes, no gaps between them (keys are actually sloped on the edge and fit together) and most importantly, no num pad.
So now that i feel it needs to be retired after 9 yrs of loyalty, i can't find a successor for it that have my old Studio's keyboard-feel. Most of laptops in the market have small keys with orthogonal edges and lots of space wasted as gaps between them (like new Dells), a useless (for me) num pad and worst of all, small miniature arrow keys (like thinkPad) and other navigations seems to be new designers fashion.
I'd be glad if some one introduce me a laptop with a similar keyboard to mine (in the picture)
Or what do you propose, should i care about the keyboard at all? are these new designs easy to take up with? wouldn't i suffer a keyboardalgia?
edit: no macs btw :)

I think I just realized the relationships between toons in Looney Toons: World of Mayhem is basically a graph... And so the optimal teams can be found by solving Pick 4 Vertices (toons) that maximize the # of Edges (positive relationships) between them...
Is there an algorithm that finds that or I just bring force it by testing all combos? Given the # of toons shouldn't take too long.2 -
react is garbage because javascript is garbage
like trying to draw straight lines but there's no straight edges to work with
fuck hooks , im too salty and stupid to learn this shit1 -
I have a rant. A genuine rant, not a funny story, etc.
I want a keyboard. I need one. It can cost €500, as long as it won't break in a year and fulfils all my needs. Make it a €1000, I don't care. What are my needs then? Well...
It has to be a split keyboard - two halves. But wireless in every aspect, ergonomic, with multimedia keys on its outer edges (preferably pointing outwards, not up) and a heavy metal trackball on the right outer edge (preferably upper right corner). That's a bare minimum.
On top of that it probably some magnetic scrolls for things like navigating pages, changing volume and fidgeting in general wouldn't hurt. Also I'd prefer it to snap back into a one-piece whenever I need it to lie on my knees, e.g. when I type while sitting on a coach (I have a coach PC setup, no desk, and there's a reason). Why do I need it to split then...?
I had an accident. Kind of broke my back when I was 11. It's mostly okay now after couple years of rehabilitation and many more years of careful living. Luckily the only two wheels I ride on are powered by a 105.97 hp @ 9,970 rpm engine. Still, I try to be careful so I tried tons of work hygiene techniques over the years and I found out anything over 2 hours is best done while lying flat.
Coding while lying flat has its challenges, mostly focused around screen and input. Ever since I got a VR headset half of them got solved but the other half - acquiring a suitable keyboard - it's very hard to satisfy. I tried that with a one-piece keyboard lying on my stomach. Turns out actively bending elbows quickly wears them out (hello tennis players). So a split keyboard it has to be. So far I tried 4 different ones and I had to modify the cable connecting both halves in each and every one of them so that it'd be long enough to go behind my back. The main cable itself I only had to modify once because usually there're extensions available.
Apart from cables, all of those keyboards had issues. Starting from some kind of de-syncing when keys from both halves would randomly register in a wrong order - I didn't know it's possible with a cable connected halves... I did try two generic WiFi keyboards (using one for each hand) and they unfortunately suffered from that very same issue but I was sure it wouldn't happen if the device was designed to be a one unit from the very beginning, right? And yet it in 2 of the tested devices.
Other than that, plugs disconnecting on their own forcing me to take off the headset and fiddle around, too high key travel that'd strain the wrists after a few hours, even the noise that would wake up my girlfriend sleeping in a separate room were all a common issue (I briefly had an almost completely silent WiFi mechanical keyboard from Logitech we both really liked, but it was a one-piece). Once I got a split keyboard that was "natively" WiFi but not only the two halves were still connected with a cable that turned out to be way too short for my needs, it also had a very noticeable lag despite the high price - a lag way higher than any of the cheap WiFi keyboards I owned in the past. So I sent it back. Now IDK what to do because AFAICT there are no more models available, at least where I live.
So yeah, I need a keyboard and I'll probably have to make one myself. Sorry, just had to vent.4 -
Everyone around me in the office has the same persistent cold. It edges forever closer. There is no hope.
Bring back mandatory mask wearing in meetings. Or just don't invite me.11 -

Fucking shit! So I built this new gaming rig: https://devrant.com/rants/1795588/...
....and fuck!
Firstly the RAM does not fucking run on 3200MHz. The maximum stable speed is 3000MHz...
A secondly, the CPU is so fucking HOT! 50 degrees Celsius in BIOS, underclocking when I try to run stress test. I knew it is thermal paste, so I decided to take the cooler off and see and buy a new better paste and wtf AMD, their paste is so shit, that there was actually no layer of paste on the CPU, only on the edges big piles of it. WUT?4 -
Currently working on a distributional semantics database or something like that. The goal is to read natural language texts and construct a graph of words, with directed edges containing the relative distances between them. Then I want to enter one or more words and find all of the possible words which could be used before, after or in between those words, simply based on the previously learned texts. Then I want to find words which are used in similar contexts and build a kind of dictionary that way.
The end goal is to use this to define software or other states and procedures, using natural language.
What do you think of this idea? Can you imagine it being feasable for its purpose? What are your thoughts?3 -
As we’re moving into summer, I can’t help but fall into that “shit I hate this” mentality again. I’m a naturally sweaty person, but even on the edges of summer I feel like my skin has a layer of moist just… sitting there. My sleep is shit, I’m irritated and I never know what to wear to feel comfortable. Just a full season of discomfort. Wish I could just WFH to create a somewhat comfortable environment in summer.14

I just look at a layout like this and see a relational database. Because minus random markers, there is a defined set of relationships some of which can be inferred or taken from OTHER data like.
"Joe travels at 8 am +/- 1 hr 99% of the time, every day of the work week for the last 52 weeks, likely joe is commuting to this location"
or you could just add a schedule table and one item could be marked commute vs a log table of data that is actually happening.
With everything else I see the same things.
I also see a possibility for graph edges and the likej to get out of control really quickly when you start adding event data into it.
so what is the use of graph and whats its really offering ?
any data worthwhile is likely going to have some kind of structure, even if you add ad hoc fields that don't exist, after enough additions those fields should be standardized !

So which do you think would be faster to detect related points in an image to a certain threshold ?
A. Scan a line at a time and define a rectangle surrounding the shape ?
B. Starting at a pixel find values in each direction within a tolerance and recurse each point found with the same function
C. Do something similar to above but try to find the edges by finding the last point before blank space to get a shape
D. Identify all line segments on the horiz very and diagonals and see which ones intersect ? Omg I asked this before. After discovering all the points that are within threshold and iterating through these alone?
E. Is there another goddamn method ??? Lol5 -
I coded a Nibbles knock-off on QBasic in elementary school. I kept picking around the edges of coding (HTML, LaTeX, scripts for research tools like R, Praat, etc) and just recently got serious about it.

Oh boy this may be my best product review yet. I'm totally smitten with GitHub Copilot! I always put off trying it, but I finally gave it a try recently. Man, oh man, once I got a taste of it, there was no going back. This auto-suggest feature is pure sorcery! It throws out complete function suggestions while you type, and it's all based on the context of your code.
Let me tell you if you have never tried it, it's freaking awesome and super handy! I've been learning Python for less than a month, but thanks to the freaking Copilot, my Python skills have skyrocketed like for real. I know this because I tackled a Python project and nailed it. The client was stoked because it worked flawlessly, even though my Python skills are still a bit rough around the edges.
The coolst thing is hw clean my code looks, especially for a beginner. all I have to do to add a comment is type a double slash, and Copilot takes care of the rest. It suggests what should go on each line as I type, and it's scarily accurate.
You know what's wild? On the GitHub page, it claims that Copilot writes 50% of the code. But, dude, for me, it wrote way more than that!

i am frightened. i have a feeling the only person i can talk about programming stuff twice a year is getting out of touch.
as if the rarity of the talks is not bad enough, our tech stack edges away every time. he is the most intelligent person, yet i see no huge advantages and my strides just raise a shrug. not out of lack of interest but from pure inexperience. we have a long history of joint projects, but i fear the day only he relieves about his webdev experiences with his php-es5-css-stack, while i can not contribute with my knowledge about python- and vba-automation, oop and es6+. as if he would not be able to wrap his head about all this in a blink of an eye. -
I made a little automated Docker reverse proxy called Autocaddy to simplify developing unrelated little trinkets under subdomains of a domain name:
https://github.com/lbfalvy/...
It dispatches subdomains to the (container with the) matching network alias and terminates TLS.
it's a little rough around the edges but to my understanding it shouldn't be an inherent risk (unless you're running things that interfere with name resolution like VPN on the container host, but why would you do that if it's already a container host).4 -
So I want to make sure I’m not an idiot
I’ve tried several strategies to localized image segmentation
The first was locating a data pixel and expanding a bounding box around mall pixels close enough to be part of a shape
The next was pushing pixels outward to find connected edges until all edges has a point plotted for them forming a mesh it selected a point and moved in all 8 directions looking for the next edge Skipping directions another point was on
The last that I’m working on draws out all the data pixels into a 2d dictionary and then finds all line segments in six directions and then goes back through and links them and all segments previously linked to all newly linked segments first arranging them into panels of larger pixel groups to minimize iterations
Am I overthinking this ?8 -
"Visual design is often the polar opposite of engineering: trading hard edges for subjective decisions based on gut feelings and personal experiences. It’s messy, unpredictable, and notoriously hard to measure. The apparently erratic behavior of artists drives engineers bananas. Their decisions seem arbitrary and risk everything with no guaranteed benefit." - Scott Stevenson

Hopefully the Google cover I ordered if worth it and won't be slippery like the Pixel 6 Pro's edges...
Weather was nice outside though cold but figured would take it out for some real world testing, vs the 4a 5g it's replacing...
Well taking it out of my pocket and holding it was scary cuz it's slippery as fuck... The cold probably made it worse.
On the other hand the 4a was fine since it has a TPU case...
I think though I'm gonna get a tempered glass screen protector after all...

Bubble Wrap at Home Depot: The Essential Guide for Safe and Efficient Packaging
Introduction
When it comes to packing and protecting fragile items, bubble wrap stands out as a crucial material. Its air-filled bubbles provide cushioning that guards against impacts, vibrations, and scratches. Home Depot, a leading retailer in home improvement and supplies, offers a range of bubble wrap products suited for various needs. This guide delves into the options available at Home Depot, their benefits, and tips for effectively using bubble wrap.
Types of Bubble Wrap Available at Home Depot
Home Depot stocks a diverse selection of bubble wrap, catering to different packing requirements. Here’s an overview of the types you might encounter:
Standard Bubble Wrap
Standard bubble wrap is the most common type and features 1/2-inch bubbles. This variant is ideal for protecting everyday items during moves or storage. It’s versatile, offering sufficient cushioning for most household goods like dishes, electronics, and picture frames.
Large Bubble Wrap
Large bubble wrap comes with bigger bubbles, typically 3/4 inches in diameter. It provides enhanced protection for larger and more delicate items such as televisions, mirrors, and fragile furniture. The increased bubble size offers superior cushioning and shock absorption.
Anti-Static Bubble Wrap
Anti-static bubble wrap is specially designed for electronic components and sensitive equipment. It prevents static electricity from building up, which can damage electronic circuits. This type of bubble wrap is essential for shipping or storing items like computer parts, circuit boards, and other tech gadgets.
Perforated Bubble Wrap
Perforated bubble wrap features evenly spaced perforations that make it easy to tear off sections without needing scissors. This convenience is perfect for packing smaller items or when you need to use bubble wrap in smaller quantities. It’s a practical choice for both home and office use.
Bubble Wrap Rolls and Sheets
Home Depot offers bubble wrap in various roll sizes and pre-cut sheets. Rolls are ideal for larger packing tasks, as they allow you to cut the exact length needed. Pre-cut sheets, on the other hand, are handy for quick packing and can be used directly without additional cutting.
Benefits of Using Bubble Wrap
Bubble wrap offers several benefits that make it a go-to choice for packaging and protection:
Impact Protection
The air-filled bubbles in bubble wrap absorb and disperse shock, reducing the risk of damage during transit. This impact resistance is crucial for protecting fragile items from breakage.
Scratch Prevention
Bubble wrap creates a cushion around items, preventing scratches and scuffs. This is particularly useful for protecting surfaces of electronics, glassware, and furniture.
Versatility
Bubble wrap can be used for a wide range of items and packing scenarios. Whether you’re moving house, shipping products, or storing valuables, bubble wrap adapts to various needs.
Lightweight
Despite its protective qualities, bubble wrap is lightweight and doesn’t add significant weight to your packages. This feature helps in reducing shipping costs and makes handling easier.
Reusable
Many people reuse bubble wrap for multiple packing jobs. Its durability allows it to be effective over several uses, making it an environmentally friendly option.
How to Use Bubble Wrap Effectively
To maximize the benefits of bubble wrap, follow these tips for effective use:
Wrap Items Securely
Ensure that each item is fully covered with bubble wrap. For delicate items, use multiple layers for added protection. Place the bubble wrap with the bubbles facing inward for optimal cushioning.
Fill Empty Spaces
When packing items in boxes, fill any gaps with bubble wrap to prevent movement. This helps in reducing the risk of items shifting during transit.
Seal the Package Well
Once wrapped, secure the bubble wrap with packing tape. Ensure that all edges are sealed to keep the wrap in place and provide a complete protective layer.
Use Appropriate Size
Choose the right type and size of bubble wrap based on the items you’re packing. Larger bubbles are better for big, fragile items, while smaller bubbles are suitable for everyday objects.
Avoid Over-Packing
While bubble wrap is protective, over-packing can lead to unnecessary bulk and weight. Aim for a balance where items are cushioned but the package remains manageable.
Conclusion
Bubble wrap from Home Depot is an indispensable tool for protecting fragile items during moving, shipping, or storage. With various types available, including standard, large, anti-static, and perforated options, you can find the right bubble wrap to meet your needs.

Pure Pressure Wash Co LLC: Professional Gutter Cleaning Services in Thousand Oaks, CA
At Pure Pressure Wash Co LLC, we understand the importance of maintaining the health and integrity of your home or business, and one key aspect of property maintenance that’s often overlooked is gutter cleaning. Gutters are designed to protect your property by channeling rainwater away from your roof, walls, and foundation, but over time, they can become clogged with leaves, twigs, dirt, and other debris. When this happens, your gutters can no longer do their job effectively, leading to potential damage to your roof, walls, and even your foundation. That's where we come in.
Serving Thousand Oaks, California, and the surrounding areas, Pure Pressure Wash Co LLC offers professional gutter cleaning services to keep your property safe and protected. Our team uses the latest tools and techniques to ensure your gutters are clear, functioning properly, and free of debris, so you can avoid costly repairs down the road.
Why Gutter Cleaning is Essential
Your gutters play a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity of your property. When they are clogged or damaged, it can lead to a number of issues, including:
Water Damage to the Roof
When gutters are clogged, water can back up onto your roof. Over time, this can cause roof leaks, rotting shingles, and mold growth, which can compromise the entire roofing structure. Regular gutter cleaning prevents water from accumulating on your roof and causing expensive damage.
Foundation Problems
Gutters that are full of debris can cause rainwater to spill over the edges and pool around the foundation of your home. This excess water can seep into the ground, leading to soil erosion and cracks in your foundation, which can be costly to repair.
Landscape Damage
Overflowing gutters can also damage your landscaping by directing water to areas where it shouldn’t be. Erosion, over-watering, and soil displacement can harm your plants, garden beds, and lawn.
Mold and Mildew Growth
When water is trapped in clogged gutters, it can create a perfect breeding ground for mold and mildew. Over time, this can spread to other parts of your home, causing health issues and further property damage.
Pest Infestations
Clogged gutters are also a haven for pests, including mosquitoes, ants, rodents, and even birds. Standing water in gutters provides a place for mosquitoes to breed, while leaves and debris attract rodents looking for shelter. Gutter cleaning ensures that these unwanted guests don’t make your gutters their home.

🎮 Why do so many videogames have bad anti-aliasing implementation? It is so easy to implement: just draw on a larger texture, then scale back to the target resolution
I've been playing Forza Horizon 4 and League of Legends lately and both games have terrible anti-aliasing; I can see pixels and cringy blur around the edges. Elden Ring is another game where anti-aliasing sucks
I understand that not every user can benefit from anti-aliasing because you need powerful graphics card; but still. Feels bad5 -

It was a rainy Tuesday evening when I sat at my desk, staring at the screen in disbelief. My Bitcoin months of careful savings had vanished into a shady investment scheme I’d fallen for. The website promised "guaranteed returns," but after sending 2 BTC, the platform went dark, and my wallet was empty. I felt like a fool, scammed by my own desperation for a quick profit. Days turned into weeks, and I’d nearly given up hope when a friend mentioned Alpha Spy Nest, a secretive group known for tracking down lost crypto. Skeptical but desperate, I reached out through an encrypted email I found on a forum. Within hours, a response arrived: “Send us the details. We’ll see what we can do.” I shared everything, the wallet address I’d sent my Bitcoin to, the fake platform’s URL, and the few screenshots I’d taken. Alpha Spy Nest didn’t waste time with pleasantries. Their next message was a list of questions: transaction IDs, dates, even the IP address I’d used. I scrambled to provide it all, unsure how they’d pull off the impossible. Behind the scenes, Alpha Spy Nest went to work. They were a shadowy crew, hackers, blockchain analysts, and who-knows-what-else, operating on the edges of the digital world. Using tools I couldn’t begin to understand, they traced my Bitcoin through a labyrinth of wallets designed to hide the trail. The scammers had funneled it through mixers, but Alpha Spy Nest unraveled the mess, linking it to an exchange account tied to a careless crook who’d left digital breadcrumbs. Days later, I got a message: “Check your wallet.” My hands trembled as I opened my crypto app. There it was 1.9 BTC, a hair less than I’d lost due to fees, but more than I’d ever dreamed of seeing again. A follow-up note from Alpha Spy Nest explained they’d pressured the scammer into returning it after exposing his identity to the exchange. “He folded fast,” they wrote. “Stay sharp next time.” I never met them, never even learned their real names. But that rainy night, Alpha Spy Nest turned my despair into a second chance. I swore I’d never fall for a scam again and that I’d keep their name close, just in case. whatsApp: +14159714490

The ground trembled like a nervous intern on espresso shots. One minute, I was monitoring my geothermal Bitcoin miners, humming in harmony with Iceland's most unpredictable volcano. Next? An eruption painted the sky gray with ash, raining destruction like an out-of-control blockchain fork. Power cables flickered out. Servers turned into abstract-art pieces. And my wallet with $460,000 worth of mining revenue fried faster than a motherboard in a tidal wave of lava. I was knee-deep in volcanic mud, clutching the charred wallet, wondering if the universe had a vendetta against renewable energy. For weeks, I’d played geothermal gambler, harnessing Earth’s anger to mine crypto. Now, Mother Nature had countered with a literal power move. My wallet’s backups? Corrupted by ash-clogged drives. My cold storage? Warmer than a freshly erupted fissure. Even the volcanologists on my team shrugged. “We predict lava, not ledger errors,” one said, handing me a business card signed at the edges. “Try these Cyber Constable Intelligence. They’ve fixed crypto in weird places.” Cyber Constable Intelligence phoned on the first ring. Cyber Constable Intelligence saved not just crypto. They demonstrated that even the fury of nature cannot surpass human tenacity. My operation now operates robustly, excavating coins with Earth's anger and a backup generator sufficient to run a small glacier. The volcano? Still grumbling. My wallet? Locked inside a fireproof safe, as irony bites sharper than an Icelandic winter.
If your crypto somehow gets smothered beneath the pyroclastic ash of life, skip the freak-out. Call the Cybers. They'll dig through lava streams until your cash bubbles up to the surface. Just maybe set up your rigs a few miles closer to the crater next time. If you’re facing a similar problem I highly recommend contacting Cyber Constable Intelligence
