Story.
Did you know logging into chrome will auto sync all your fucking bookmarks to that other person's account??
I DIDN'T!!
(I use Firefox mainly and chromium for testing.)
I use chrome only for porn. Got shit tons of bookmarks. I login to my friend's sister Gmail on my chrome(for remote desktop - to help fix her computer. Somehow, remote desktop doesn't work on chromium)
Was browsing her pc via remote session and suddenly all of my porn bookmarks appear at the top bar.)
Had to manually select each bookmark in the bookmark manager and delete since CTRL+A won't work during the remote session. Don't know why.

--- Save some time with Google's .new-Domains ---
A few days ago, Google announced their new '.new' domains.
By using them you can save plenty of time when creating new Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites or Forms.
So instead of going to Google Drive and creating the document there, users can just input the corresponding URL into the browser!
Here are a few examples:
> 'doc.new' or 'docs.new' or 'documents.new' to create a new Google Docs document (https://doc.new/)
> 'sheet.new' or 'sheets.new' or 'spreadsheet.new' to create a new Google Spreadsheets document (https://sheet.new/)
> 'site.new' or 'sites.new' or 'website.new' to create a new Google Sites website (https://site.new/)
> 'slide.new' or 'slides.new' or 'deck.new' or 'presentation.new' to create a new Google Slides document (https://slide.new/)
> 'form.new' or 'forms.new' to create a new Google Forms form (https://form.new/)
This is also useful for creating special bookmarks in the browser!34 -
My 1.5 year old 1tb SSD just died unexpectedly. (Samsung EVO 850). It might be under warranty yet.
Fortunately the only data I lost was my debian install, some steam games, bookmarks, and a few unfinshed projects.
I kept everything important on a backup spinning drive -- which is also dying. Joy. But I might be able to save its data.30 -
I was called as an IT technician at law firm to install a program in a lawyer's pc. Found a porn video saved in bookmarks...why? 🙄14

I feel guilty when I spend time after work writing code, because there's that voice in the back of my head saying I should switch to leisure activities. "You've worked enough, don't sit all day, it's unhealthy".
Then I go for a walk or start planning something to cook. And there's still this weird feeling of guilt for not being productive enough, telling me I should learn a new programming language. "Work on your skills, you need to learn stuff to stay relevant in your field"
BRAIN, BE FUCKING CONTENT WITH WHAT I'M DOING FOR ONCE!
And stop fucking bullshitting me.
You're not trying to make me take a walk, you're not having my best interests at heart by making me learn or work.
I'm fucking on to you, you treacherous shitlitter of neurons. You're betraying me, and it happens every single fucking time I let my guard down.
I alt-tab out of my IDE, and within seconds you're there, impeding my intellect, making me click bookmarks to check the feculent streams spraying from the fingers of "friends" on Facebook.
I take a poop, and you just let me slide into a slowwitted state where I pick up my phone and stare at some crapfilled mire of memes.
You're the retarded digital-era id, wearing the disguise of a renaissance smart-ass ego, and you're dumping the fucking guilt on ME?
FUCK YOU AND YOUR MEMES, I'M GONNA BAKE A STEAK WITH MUSHROOM SAUCE AND WATCH PROGRAMMING VIDEOS WHILE DANCING.
NAKED.
(and maybe browse devRant later. I still love you, devRant)5 -
After seeing @Gregozor2121 share, I searched around in my bookmarks for similar stuff. Here are a couple of links that I feel is useful for everyone:
A massive list of Free programming books.
https://ebookfoundation.github.io/f...
(Also do explore anything marked as "awesome", cause it literally is awesome!! They have got tons of lists of resources for most programming languages, free software lists, famous stackoverflow answers, quotes & even Pokemon!!)
I also had this bookmarked:
https://github.com/chubin/cheat.sh
Basically cheat sheets at your command line. Pretty neat utility.8 -
Instead of using OneNote, Evernote, etc I'm thinking of using a git repo where I would write notes, save bookmarks, links, information, everything with markdown.22

Share your VS Code installed extensions here.
Mine is: Alignment, Better Comments, change-case, Colonize, CSS Peek, DotENV, File Utils, GitLens (my favorite!), Gulp Snippets, JS-CSS-HTML Formatter, Laravel 5 Snippets, Laravel Blade Snippets, Material Icon Theme, npm Intellisense, Numbered Bookmarks, Path Intellisense, PHP Debug, PHP DocBlocker, PHP Intelephense, PHP IntelliSense, Prettify JSON, Quokka.js, snippet-creator, Vetur.
Feels like there are redundant extensions here that I need to uninstall.
Happy Friday and Cheers! Excited for Infinity War movie! 😎15 -
Last week, the team lead told me that he can't merge because my code has code smells and going forward, can't have that. We use Sonar and well the way to "fix it" according to him is to mark the line using //NOSONAR.
Most of the issues are minor like Unused imports and for me incomplete TODOs.
And before the "verbal" rule was only need to fix Major + issues. And well the reason I use TODOs is to mark code that probably needs changing in the future. I know there's going to be some feature that these lines have to be changed. But the requirements are fully defined yet from business.
But I sort of blew up on him. YOU WANT TO ENFORCE ZERO CODE SMELLS NOW?!?!?! AND THESE MINOR ISSUES? MARK THEM WITH NOSONAR?
HERE'S WHAT I THINK FOR THE LAST X YEARS... THE CODE DESIGN IS SHIT, MINOR CODE SMELLS AND MANUALLY MARKING THE ONES U NEED TO KEEP... ARE THE LEAST OF OUR PROBLEMS...
THE OTHER PROBLEMS I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE EVER. MOS YEAR BUT YOU DIMWITS NEVER LISTEN.
YOU THINK MY TODOS ARE BAD... 90% OF THE CODE AND FEATURES (THE ONES NOT DONE BY ME) LOOK AND SMELL LIKE MONKEY SHIT. UNDOCUMENTED, MESSY, FULL OF BUGS.
AND GUESS WHAT? NEW FEATURE, SOME DEV FORGETS TO CHANGE SOME COMPONENT THAT DEPENDS ON IT. WOULDN'T IT BE GREATE IF THERE WERE BOOKMARKS... O WAIT...
i just was catching up on comics again and saw this one... with triggered my memory and this rant... My first thought was to forward it to him...11 -
Today I was continuing my Ruby script for file encryption.
I added some features like Picture Encryption and Bookmarks.
Then I tried to start it to make sure it doesn't fuck up.
ruby PGCrypt.rb
No changes reflected.
w0t.jpg
Start debugging
Browses SO and DDG like a maniac
Reinstalls Ruby
Guess what happened.
My shell was in the wrong folder and I ran the old testing script.
GRAAAAAHHHH3 -
I recently deleted a bunch of bookmarks from between 2002 and 2014. None of the websites even worked anymore.5

It feels SO good to have nothing to lose on your system! Code on GitHub, pictures on an external disk, documents on Google Drive and OneDrive and bookmarks etc. on my Google Account. If my PC were to crash completely then I wouldn't be as lost as I'd normally be :D3

Got an email from the IT manager of a subsidiary.
IT: Hi, I appeal to your IT skills: A. wants the Chrome bookmarks of B. How do I do it? Can I just login with B. account in A.’s Chrome to let her have the same bookmarks?
Me: No, please...never heard about export/import?
IT: Nope, thank you for the suggestion. I’ll do my best!
And that’s why I’m currently on holiday.....6 -
Tip: Never add an execution (PHP for example) script as a bookmark in your browser..
Your browser will occasionally poll the saved URL to update the favicon or sync to the server or something like that, which triggers the script without you knowing...11 -
!rant
Heres a Tip someone showed me a while back, thought I shared it here if somebody didn't knew. It works with Browser bookmarks and keywords that you assign.
Use-case:
typing "java: String" into the search bar will show searchresults in Google that only returns Pages from the Java API about Strings.
Steps:
1.Search for "https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/...: %s" in Google.
2.Bookmark it
3.Edit the Bookmark and assign the Keyword "java: "
4.??? (Search "java: Sring". duh)
5.Profit!!1!1
Use-case:
Or typing "stack: help" will search for help in stack overflow.
Steps:
Search %s in SO, bookmark and assign a keyword.
As far as I know this works in FF and Chrome. Cheers2 -
I delete all the bookmarks manually thinking that I will get rid of the bar, but instead I was left with this!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!! 😡9

So, my crush told me how she lost her 800+ bookmarks related to her very crucial project (She isn't into computers). I told her she could recover them and I'll help her with the steps. She was so paranoid about losing the rest of the project if something were to go wrong while recovering.
Bookmarks got recovered. She's happy.( I just took the bookmarks.bak file from the chrome folder and converted it to an html doc.)
4 days later-
Her: dude, what the fuck did you do. The whole system has been reset. The whole project is gone. Fucking know-it-all. She thinks I'm responsible for the system restore.

Sorry I haven't been as active lately, however this is one of the better prompts, so I feel I should have it in my track record. Beware, it's a long one...
Let's trace the roots: My uncle was building desktops and he told my dad he'd build him one if my dad paid him for the components. These days I know builds aren't rocket science, but back then my parents didn't do their research. So my dad paid him.
Give or take some time, and most of the parts are complete. He underestimated the prices of a few things and had to ask for $200 more to complete the build. This...caused my dad to explode.
Later, I heard my dad ranting to my stepmom in January 2017 about how the last convo he had with his brother was a "Fuck-you conversation" - it was the last because my uncle had died in 2003.
Flash forward to March 2017. My mom and I are sitting in a Fazoli's, a nice sunset out of the full-length windows. I had to probe. HAD TO.
"You promise you won't tell your dad I told you this?" she asked.
"You know Kellie and I can't stand to be around him." I replied.
As the story goes, that last "Fuck-you conversation"? Over a fucking measly $200. Yup, the last conversation between my dad and his brother to ever happen was a shouting match over a relatively short amount of money. I wish I could say my dad had remorse, but he doesn't. He still talks shit. He's also technologically illiterate, so I doubt there was a way his brother was going to be able to reason with him.
In late 2003, my uncle, who had been a smoker, passed away due to cardiac arrest. The build was still not finished. This was one of the OTHER things that I have mixed feelings about.
After my uncle passed, my aunt paid someone to finish the build and get it shipped to my dad. We'll get back to why I feel this is fucked up, stay tuned...
---------
It's Spring 2004. I'm in the last half of what I think is Kindergarten or some shit...too lazy to do the math. Anyway, my dad announces we have a family computer - however, I couldn't read yet. That didn't stop the waste of oxygen that is my father from going in the Windows XP screensavers and putting text in that said "GAGE MORGAN WILL NOT TOUCH THIS COMPUTER." He's such a fuckin' dick, now AND back then.
My mom had an issue with this. I don't know why, but she did. Later, I was slowly taught how to use the mouse, under heavy supervision. Then I went to my grandma's house. She taught me one very specific thing on her old Win98 (386, maybe? IDK my old hw shit man), and because I know you guys are gonna love this one:
"The blue "e" opens up your games!"
The blue "e" does not open up your games, it opens something that can lead to your games.
I went home and tried this...without permission. My dad came down and discovered my lollygagging on the homepage - this is fucking weird. It was before Nextel, IIRC, so Sprint's logo was red still. Yes, we had broadband from Sprint. I don't know what saga led to that going the way of the dodo, but...
Back on track, I literally got my pants pulled down and had my bare bottom beat. He was gonna drag my ass upstairs and lock me in my room, but before he could, he accidentally slammed MY FUCKING RIGHT TEMPLE into the corner of a hardwood table at the bottom of the staircase.
The wailing that resulted probably was different than the previous form, which is probably what got my mom involved. My dad had a way of going too far, and in retrospect I'm more terrified now of what could've happened than I was then.
Later, I was given access to games in the form of my own account and bookmarks bar. That wasn't the end of the madness/drama from my use of that machine, but it was the earliest form.
Ever since Kindergarten, that one fateful day, I've been defying any/all imposed limitations on tech set on me by my parents...well, not anymore, but literally grades K-12. I'm living on my own, aka "adulting" now. It sucks more than you think, man.
---------
Let's tie this up before I reach the limit. I said I thought it was fucked up when my aunt paid to have the build finished and shipped to us after my uncle's death.
Yes, my aunt's intervention led to me ultimately majoring in computer science.
That doesn't change the fact that she shouldn't have done it.
My dad was an asshole to her husband, who passed. She is ultimately too caring. I don't think my jackass father should've been able to get by with that, he didn't deserve the freebie. Someone else should've told him his brother did in fact need that $200.
I haven't seen her IRL since the funeral when my grandpa passed in 2005. 2006 spelled the end of my parents' marriage.
Hope you guys enjoyed this - it's only a small segment of how I got to where I am now - tiny, actually.2 -

Firefox is shit
- In version 62 the cocksuckers finally removed the ability to add description to bookmarks, now there is no difference between mozilla shit browser and chrome, except chrome has working mobile version and working bookmark sync.
- Yes, firefox mobile on android does not even allow you to edit bookmarks so that useless crap can't be called a browser at all.
- Firefox shitcoded sync takes more time to sync 1 bookmark, than chrome takes to setup all bookmarks/addons/settings on fresh-install and in addition to that, it messed my bookmarks several times, so I am forced to sync places.sqlite via dropbox to syncronize bookmarks, because it is way much faster and reliable.37 -
TL;DR : I have carelessly deleted my pocket account. arrrrr fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
I usually censored my fuck with * but this level of fucked up shit need no censor anymore.... shit fuck fuck fuck
I am using separate profile for my regular ff and ff dev edition. I didn't know both of the browsers are already linked to single pocket account. I thought the pocket account on my dev edition profile was a new one auto created by ff and decided to delete the account. Turn out it was the same freaking account. I even saw the name linnth but I still clicked Delete My Account.
All 5 or so years saved bookmarks are gone. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr1 -
My previous manager reached out to me (we still work at the same company; different clients/projects/countries). Offered a very temporary project (1-2 months tops). I look at the client's requirements -- sounds super easy, doable in 1 month.
I dig more into the docs, details, other references. Turns out, this invitation has been published publicly and anyone could reach out to them applying for the project. Even I could, outside of my employer.
And the budget is $60k
And now I'm a bit mad at myself for not finding this page earlier. Had I been accepted for the job, I'd have earned $60k in 1 fucking month. And now I'll only get my usual salary
FUCK!
Definitely adding that website to my bookmarks.1 -

Mistakenly clicked on some old link in my bookmarks, fell on this. I still don't know what to think!

Chrome blocked TheGreatSuspender yesterday. All the Chrome installations got that extension removed.
My chrome:
300-400 tabs (in total): *poof*15 -
Started opening tabs in Firefox Quantum like all you devs do during development. All of a sudden, firefox gave up and stopped loading any new websites.
Bookmarked all the tabs and closed ff. Clicked on again, the old process appearantly is stuck, so it showed a warning, closed the old one and opened it again.
Alright fine, opened all the tabs from bookmarks again. Firefox is again stuck. Realised some of the tabs might be acting up. Just to double check if it really is those tabs, decided to open them in chrome.
It opened fine and I continued to browse in Chrome without any hiccups.

Privacy nightmare!
So i had bought a second hand iPhone and it seemed the phone was reset as it had only the default apps.
But as soon as I downloaded Google Chrome on to it, things started to get weird. When i opened the newly downloaded Google Chrome app, it showed someone else's Google account already logged in Chrome. I went to the Chrome settings and the account section gave me full control over this person's Google account.
Not wanting any trouble, i didn't go further and removed that account from the browser.
I then logged in to Google Chrome via one of my "project specific" google account i had created months ago and it added fine. But guess what I found when checking out safari browser.
Safari has somehow synced bookmarks from my main & personal Google account!!
I'm just stunned. I didn't even provide gmail id of my personal Google account and safari somehow was able to get bookmarks from it.
I'm kind of scared now. 😵3 -

I needed to log in on a website in someone else's pc and didn't know the password by heart. I thought I'd log into chrome, if I log out later, what could go wrong right?
Apparently, a lot. It facking merged my bookmarks, history and passwords with hers! And she had shitloads of them! It took me facking hours to clean up the mess chrome created. I trust her, but I still didn't want her to have my passwords etc.
Omg I'm never logging into chrome again elsewhere, what a frustrating facking waste of time10 -
I was just setting up rules for a firebase database.
Typing out all the JavaScript like stuff and was nearly finished.
Went to change tabs in safari to check something but accidentally clicked just above on the bookmarks bar.
The page navigates away and all the rules I had written are lost 😥1 -
A story from the old days
My father had a fame around he's friends that he understood this nasty business that is computers and in the pre-windows time he was reasonably knowledgeable... But as things evolved he didn't evolve with them so when he's friends asked him to help he would take me to solve the problem...
One day he asked me to see what was the problem with a friend's personal computer. This is a 70+ year old man.
When I get to his computer I do a quick check and see it's too infected with so many viruses to the point it is better to just format and clean install, so I ask him to backup he's files and the next day I picked up the PC and clean installed and setup the all thing...
Not more than 3 months pass and the guy says to my dad the problem was back...
I get there and the antivirus was turned off and the PC was infected... Found it weird but okay, enabled the antivirus, cleaned everything... Back to as new.... This time I instructed him to keep the antivirus always updated and running...
One week later to my surprise: he reports it is all back... Now I am getting tired of this and went to he's browsing history to find out how the hell he is achieving this... Too my surprise the amount of early internet shady porn sites was over the top...
I know had to tell a 70+ year old man how to safely watch porn... But that is not my problem, so I ask him what kind of sites he's going to... He blames he's grandson for using the internet in he's computer... Only problem: he's grandson is 2 years old...
I just set up the bookmarks with some children sites and convinced my father to take a look at that and either instruct the man or the kid on how to watch porn without getting a venereal disease... -

Trying brave browser. So far so good. A few buts though.
Importing bookmarks, saved passwords and such works fine but you can't import stuff saved in the storage, which is a bummer.
Also, advertising it as a browser where you get paid/rewarded for viewing ads is a bit disingenuous. At a rate of 2 cents per ad (max 5 per day), it's like saying a breadcrumb is equivalent to half a slice of white bread.
Haven't been able to enable picture in picture mode, which is also a bummer.
An integrated torrent client inside the browser is kinda cool though!
That aside, it does run faster overall.8 -
I remember when I was installing shareware in early 2000 and it always prompted me to install spyware sidebar, search bar for my web browser.
Another screen during installation was desperately trying to change my start page and adding couple of bookmarks for me so the developers got paid.
Tucows I think was the leader of those installers and I didn’t mind to get software for free and click to uncheck checkbox to not install optional crap.
At least it wasn’t a virus and viruses from 2000 were not that harmful, most of them were just annoying.
Fast forward 25 years and apparently those developers are now working directly for the web browser companies. Instead of trying to force me to install unwanted stuff it comes bundled with browser and I can’t uninstall or disable it.
And now it got me to think if history repeats itself and if technology bubble is going to pop sooner than later. All this money would be gone but I can’t find the place where it can happen and how it can happen.
But it’s going to happen for sure.4 -

I soon will start working from home. meaning I won't have to waste 4 hours a day busing back and forth from the office.
I think with that free time I might start trying to organize my life, I have hundreds of 'read later' and 'useful' bookmarks across 3 computers, too many browsers, and countless bookmark folders. I also have notes in 7 channels on a private discord server.
I think with the free time I might actually clean up that massive mess and using my server I didn't have last time I worked from home, actually figure out a method that'll help keep it from getting this bad again.4 -
It's 2022 and mobile web browsers still lack basic export options.
Without root access, the bookmarks, session, history, and possibly saved pages are locked in. There is no way to create an external backup or search them using external tools such as grep.
Sure, it is possible to manually copy and paste individual bookmarks and tabs into a text file. However, obviously, that takes lots of annoying repetitive effort.
Exporting is a basic feature. One might want to clean up the bookmarks or start a new session, but have a snapshot of the previous state so anything needed in future can be retrieved from there.
Without the ability to export these things, it becomes difficult to find web resources one might need in future. Due to the abundance of new incoming Internet posts and videos, the existing ones tend to drown in the search results and become very difficult to find after some time. Or they might be taken down and one might end up spending time searching for something that does not exist anymore. It's better to find out immediately it is no longer available than a futile search.
----
Some mobile web browsers such as Chrome (to Google's credit) thankfully store saved pages as MHTML files into the common Download folder, where they can be backed up and moved elsewhere using a file manager or an external computer. However, other browsers like Kiwi browser and Samsung Internet incorrectly store saved pages into their respective locked directories inside "/data/". Without root access, those files are locked in there and can only be accessed through that one web browser for the lifespan of that one device.
For tabs, there are some services like Firefox Sync. However, in order to create a text file of the opened tabs, one needs an external computer and needs to create an account on the service. For something that is technically possible in one second directly on the phone. The service can also have outages or be discontinued. This is the danger of vendor lock-in: if something is no longer supported, it can lead to data loss.
For Chrome, there is a "remote debugging" feature on the developer tools of the desktop edition that is supposedly able to get a list of the tabs ( https://android.stackexchange.com/q... ). However, I tried it and it did not work. No connection could be established. And it should not be necessary in first place.7 -
FU OneTab. This is second time you lost my saved tabs. Off you go.
TL;DR OneTab extension has major bug.
Anyone who read my suggestions/comments to use OneTab to save your opening tabs on your Chrome and Firefox, I apologize from here. And suggest you to be careful with it. I know that I have recommended it plenty of times here.
I have no idea what's causing the data lost. I used OneTab since years ago on Chrome and it worked fine. I switched to Firefox when Quantum came out. OneTab came to FF addon repo this year. I was very happy and installed and used it straight away. But it wasn't as good as before.
I don't like to open lots of tabs. Max I have will be a dozen. I like to work different task, different project on different windows. I usually have 2 windows. One window for my personal and social use with tabs like devRant, discord, etc. Second window for one of my projects and I usually work on one project at a time. If I have to juggle among multiple projects unfortunately, I open third or fourth windows respectively.
Hence, saving all opening tabs of a window to be able to open it easily next time is a very useful feature for me. I don't even need those saved to be permanent. I save URLs I frequently visit as bookmarks and URLs I found useful to pocket.
OneTab served that purpose. But losing saved tabs is definitely major problem for me. So I have uninstalled it and now giving a try to Stash. Very new add-on, so I'm still not sure of it yet. On bright side, it is made for Firefox and open-source. OneTab is not open-source.
https://github.com/globau/...
So far Stash is working fine. But I will wait and see for a week or so.2 -

I'm not really active here recently but thought it would be nice to share a cool website I ran into: https://refactoring.guru/design-pat...
Imo every developer who aspires to be more professional should have it in its bookmarks and ocassionally look into it when facing a code design dilema.1 -
In reference to https://devrant.com/rants/2333764/...
I've always wanted a desktop I could treat like apple maps. Pan and zoom (or on touch screens, pinch to exit, opposite to zoom).
Drag to create a new folder/region and name it, like a constellation of files. Zoom or click to expand, and zoom out to exit.
I guess it'd be messy af, but it's a different way of thinking and organizing for some of us.
Some of us think hierarchically (classic folders), and some of us think in two dimensions.
I dunno, I've just always found it easier to find things by organizing into 2d groups, no matter the number of files, versus having to scroll and search.
But you're reading a devrant by a guy who has north of 25-30k bookmarks, so I'm probably clinically insane anyway.5 -
Wish we could downvote whole websites / url links
Researching information and the website is just plain wrong...
Search engines would also be better done using bookmarks I think
But then you'd need to sign up to certain communities to share bookmarks with and not others, because just like people make bank gaming SEO they will try to infect these networks to sell you useless stuff just the same2 -
My Tabmanagment, or the lack of it.
When I'm in problem solving mode I have easily 40tabs+ open, because I might need some which are already open. I distinguish them by the favicon of the Google tab. Each Google tab and the following tabs are separate problems/tasks so I kinda have a timeline "the one in the middle was the problem I had 30mins ago".
I also have no bookmarks, I start always with min. 5 Tabs. I guess I don't know how to browser :|2 -
While learning a new platform online, adding several links to the bookmarks, oh that's nice I'll add that too, hey that could be helpful later 'click'.
Done learning after 2 months, pressing on the relevant bookmarks folder..... "Open all (289)?" damnit need another few weeks to clear it up and filter, ending with even more bookmarks.... -
Last job and current job I got mostly the same way. Current job was done slightly more effectively.
Here is what I did both times:
* Each day I checked all the job sites for developer jobs in the locations I was willing to travel to. I made bookmarks to various search pages so I could quickly see the results.
* I regularly searched for websites of any IT companies or large corporations that had offices in those locations. I bookmarked these and would check each day to see if they had job openings on their websites.
* Every job I applied for I made a folder with the date and job description.
* Inside the job folders I made a notes.txt file with the wording of the job and links to the ad. I googled the company and added notes like peoples names, etc. to these notes files.
* For every job I made minor alterations my resume to make sure it aligned with the job ad and copied it to the job folder
* I created another text document called cover_letter.txt which had a written letter describing all my experience that matched with the job ad
* Where possible I would call and speak with someone to get more detail about the job and updated the letter and resume accordingly
* Finally I would email or post the letter and resume
Using this method I was able to apply to several jobs every day and I was able to reuse and improve on the letters as the weeks went by. Also since I applied for a lot of jobs when someone replied I had the job ad available to look at.
For both last and current jobs I moved countries. The difference was between last and current was the previous time I moved first then started looking and for my current job I started looking before I moved. For the current job employers seemed to welcome my situation and I had several job interviews lined up for after my arrival. I felt it put me in a better light since I was essentially unavailable until my arrival date compared to before when I was unemployed and looking and getting desperate.
The job I have now I was interviewed while overseas on skype and then in-person the day after landing in the country. They quickly told me I would be hired. It seemed good so I canceled the other interviews. Sorry no exciting circumstances.1 -
Today the product designer (like he calls himself) on my team decided we should not use urls containing more meaningful information in our web app as absolutly necessary. It would be easy to use RESTful Urls displaying more details about the current navigation in the app with angular. But he thinks that would go against the "app feeling" and customers might think it is "just a website". Bookmarks, browser history, a useful "back" button in the browser and more power to the user "might be confusing" and "it's better for markting purposes". -.-
Well, if he thinks so... I made my point clear and he ows me beer if this feature is ever requested.1 -
Why the fuck would apple design a goddamn browser for its phone that won’t let you export bookmarks ????24

Question about managing git branches.
For releases, we branch develop (the main branch) into a release.version branch in which we bump the version and do any last minute bug fixes for issues found in testing.
After the release we need it back into the main branch as well as master.
But also we keep the branch as well in case we need it such as for a hotfix release.
Is keeping it right though?
General issue on my team I feel is nobody deletes their feature branches after they are done and merged into the main branch. I think there is a feature in most Repos where it can auto delete these branches when a PR is merged.
And well branches themselves (at least the HEAD) are sort of just bookmarks. All commits can be accessed by their hash and basically is a full snapshot of all the commits that upto that point that it was based off of?
So you could just tag the last commit in the release branch with release.version and delete the branch itself? And that I think is the correct, normal way?
Not sure how to explain this to my boss or team as they aren't big on technical details...9 -
have u ever feel annoyed when you log in your google account at printing shop and all your bookmarks appeared on that pc? all you wanted to is uninstall that google chrome..2

Ok, you've got some free time and a folder full of bookmarks to get through the subjects you need for that cert....
....but it has been busy these past few months. One day out of your holiday just to chill and do nothing, then you can get to work....
....you have 9 days. 2 out of the 9 is ok just to relax, it is a holiday after all....
....ok, your going back to work in 2 days and the most you've done is read some semi-related articles that were shared on Twitter. Sort it out....
....24 hours to go, you've essentially done nothing productive. I guess I'll go back to fitting it in at work or convincing myself I'll do it when I get home after a long day.
Anyone else struggle with this? Not just for certs in particular, but just learning in general. -
I was just thinking that bookmarking a rant could be a good feature for this community. 😁
I came across some rants with info I wanted to check later, but no way to save the rant anywhere. I just saved the links to a text file for now.2 -
Ok this will be silly guys, but this is my last hope, please help me. I am looking for a website "framework" but I can't remember the name. It is commercial, its website is all white using some black slab/serif fonts and it has a side navigation, the purpose of the framework is to easily create websites with full page scroll. it has multiple layouts, really similar to webslides or the slides framework from the guys at designmodo. If you know it or you are the developer behind it, please write link/name in comments thank you in advance!!

Customized browser start pages?
I use Booky for bookmarks so my startpage is booky.io, but I have a userscript to remove a bunch of unnecessary padding and hide the header and footer. They're toggleable by clicking on the collection name.1 -
Papaly. It's the closest to what I really want in cloud bookmarks. There have been some outages recently and the bookmark info retrieval script is terribly buggy at times, but it usually does what I want it to, which is give me visual tables of bookmarks. I still haven't found anything I like better.3

Vivaldi browser is shit.
Simple isntructions on how to make most shitty browser ever:
1. Force users to use "really-fucking-long" password that will not match to any of their existing ones.
2. Invent some useless stupid "encryption password" (why does any normal browser work fine without that shit) and most ridiculous - automatically set it to be the same as the main password.
3. Of course you forget the pass you set because you dont remember what symbol you added 5 times in the end of your normal pass to fit their stupid rules.
4. You have to reset it
5. "Encryption password" does not reset with it, so you still dont remember it
6. Sync is not working!
7. If you think this is shitty enought, you are not right - they went futher. To reset that fucking "encryption password" you have to... ERASE ALL YOUR CLOUD DATA.
Fucking retarded piece of shit - never, never trust those morons who made this shit browser to sync any of your sensitive information.17 -
Started using Brave browser coz my bf wouldn’t shut up about it. Consumes much less memory than both chrome and firefox which is cool. Still haven’t figured out the in-built vpn yet. Cool i can import data from my firefox like my bookmarks and shit and I understand why I can’t import my saved passwords but damn i wish i could. I don’t know my passwords to anything anymore thanks to browsers beautifully saving my passwords and i am just frustrated having to go and copy passwords. This relationship with brave is clearly not going to last coz wtf3
