Someday my toaster is going to have an IP address. A bad automatic firmware update will most likely cause it to get stuck on the bagel setting until I plug a usb key in and reflash the memory.
Grandma's refrigerator will probably get viruses, lock itself and freeze all the food inside, demanding bitcoin before defrosting.
My blender will probably be used in a massive DDoS attack because Ninja's master MAC address list got leaked and the hidden control panel login is admin/admin.
Ovens will burn houses down when people call in to have them preheat on their way home from work.
Correlations between the number of times the lights are turned on and how many times the toilet is flushed will yield recommendations to run the dishwasher on Thursdays because it's simply more energy efficient.
My dog will tweet when he's hungry and my smart watch will recommend diet dog food in real-time because he's really been eating too much lately--"Do you want to setup a recurring order on Amazon fresh?"

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to my latest employee, Dave the Duck! Dave is the new head of debugging and took the job to support his out-of-hand caffeine addiction and 72 children (of which paternity tests are still being done on 10). Dave is also wanted in 4 countries as the leader of the popular gang, known as the Dangerous Ducks. Please do no feed Dave, as he is on a strict diet. #DaveTheDuck #ProgrammersTools #ImNotThatCrazy

					2019 resolutions/goals recap: (non-personal ones)
1) Improve diet (did; e.g. ramen and fast food to clean keto)
2) Lose weight (did; lost 24 pounds!)
3) Find a good job (did, twice)
4) Buy a harp (did not; large and expensive, no place to put it, and I have small children who would absolutely break it)
5) Keep house clean, even if it's by myself (did, somewhat; I cleaned some, managed to get one other person to clean semi-regularly, and another sporadically)
6) Work on social awkwardness (did; read and applied Dale Carnegie's The Art of Public Speaking, which netted me my last job offer. Still pretty awkward though)
7) Move out of the desert (did not; not enough money, and job didn't allow remote work)
8) Stop bloody waiting on people (did not; still very guilty of this...)
I don't remember the rest 🙁 didn't write them down last year. But I still accomplished 5 out of the 8 I remembered, with one being a pass, so 5/7!
-----
2020 resolutions/goals:
1) Finally move out of the desert
2) Invest 20% of my income every month
3) Reduce bills by 20%
4) Solve/address some health issues
5) Make a schedule so things regularly get done around the house, e.g. cleaning
6) Find some friends and make time for them
7) Replace Debian with something else
8) Revamp my backup system
9) Be proactive and stop waiting on people
10) Build a (stationary) coil gun for fun18 -

					- Go to sleep early
- Get up at 5-6
- Drink quality coffee
- Work at your desk not from the bed or couch
- Don't start new projects until the last one is done
- Have a good and healthy diet
- Excercise frequently
Essentially don't be like me... Be like anyone else but me and you'll do fine...15 -

Spend 14 hours a week studying more with my free time.
Things to be studied:
-discrete math
-data structures
-algorithms
-coding challenges
-problem defining
-abstraction
-other relevant maths
Other things I want to improve:
-confidence at work
-reaching out to teams with questions
-social skills
-time management
-enjoying the little things
-patience
-consistency (with everything above)
Last big thing would be being more conscious with what type of data/platforms I am digesting everyday. Just like a good diet I want to get in the habit of consuming “good” useful content that’s thought provoking or knowable rather than fast food social media carbs
Wish everyone a productive New Year!6 -

An ancient legend goes that there exists sacred knowledge that enables anyone possessing it not to turn one’s career into a constant uphill battle with the management.
I sought this knowledge, I travelled the world, to no avail. Once upon a time, I climbed the Mount Fuji and met the wizard in his pagoda on the mount. I won in a CSS-golf battle with him, and he revealed the sacred truth: one need to chose companies that do business instead of constant backroom deals and dick-measuring contests.
Like Prometheus, I give this knowledge to you. An ancient scroll says that for this I’ll be chained to the mountain of PHP legacy code, and HRs will peck my brain for eternity, but I found Arachne, the queen of HRs, and exchanged the keto-diet secret for freedom.1 -

I gained 20+ kilos during covid.
By now I have lost about 19 of those. And no, I didn't do any specific sports or diet. I lost them via ✨anxiety✨.
And yes, I am naturally skinny.
I still have a good 20 to lose to be back at my ""usual"" weight tho. ✌️ (Gained those thanks to depression, hormonal disorder, and related meds)27 -

					Reminder to look after yourselves.
Today I found out I've had hypertension and possibly an unruptured aneurysm. Resulting from stress at work and home, overworking and bad diet from having to keep my engery up for work. (over the last around 2-3 years).
Luckly I've moved away from stressful situations now so I'm feeling like I've dodged a rather large bullet!
Look after yourselves guys, take breaks, check your caffeine, sugar and cholesterol intakes and keep active! I reckon the 6 days a week football training saved my life!
hypertension is a silent killer and can cause fatal damage to your organs such as kidneys, lungs, eyes, brain and heart.
Luckly it spotted it early with a blood test and optician visit. I had a hemorrhage in one of my eyes but wasn't until 6 months later GP noticed signs of kidney damage from my blood test it was found!
I should be fine but look after yourselves! You're more important than that deadline!6 -

I hate whenever people take hobbies and other things that aren't personality traits and try to make it a personality trait.
Your sexuality isn't a personality trait.
Your diet (looking at you *obnoxious* vegans) isn't a personality trait.
Coding isn't a personality trait.
Your race isn't a personality trait.
I'mma end this rant with a !rant tho.
I know they're obnoxious asf but oh my God mechanical keyboards are one of the most amazing sounds on this earth. Sometimes I'll type just to hear that beautiful sound.10 -

I was working on a game, and my monitor randomly blacked out and my computer stopped dead. My lights were still on so it wasn't a power cut. I look at my computer and I noticed it's completely covered in Diet Coke. So, I take it apart and cleaned them inside out, whilst I waited for any drying. I stole my dad's desktop and just put the hard drive in. Continued coding. So I guess the moral of the story, don't spill Coke on your PC.2

Not at all dev related but I don’t have a social life so I share with you guys:)
I’ve been fat for all my life. You might say it’s my own fault blah blah but I quit sugar over 10 years ago, I don’t snack and eat 1-2 meals a day, not much more than others do.
The first time I was in good shape was when I was 16. I was growing, I started boxing and I was happy-ish with my body for the first time. I got down from 110kgs to ~87kgs, which is a good weight for me, I have heavy bones and wide shoulders I guess.
I insured my shoulder and couldn’t do boxing anymore but my weight was still pretty much stable. After working in the office for a few months I started gaining weight again, I think mainly due to the stress and lack of sleep.
In 2017 for the first time I hit a new high with 120kgs. I quit my terrible, stressful 24/7 job and relocated and got down to ~115 which I maintained for quite a while (still going to the gym and stuff).
And then the lockdown started..
I went up to >120 in no time.
(Sounds really bad but as mentioned, I’m heavy anyway so I’m not THAT obese, just fat.
Seeing my weight was really scary to me so I started a keto diet again, which I did before but with limited success.
Warning: Controversial topic coming up..
I took it a bit further and tried 0-carb (carnivore diet) instead of low carb and I lost 6kg within a month. Then the next plateau at 114, then at 112 etc.
Went more strict and removed seasoning and stuff and started eating more nutritious meat, liver, heart, tongue etc and my weight started dripping again.
Yesterday for the first time in ~a decade I got down to 105kg.
My end goal is 90, so I made it half way through.
Just really happy to have achieved this. The 1 good thing about lockdown I guess, I had so much time to be on my own.
Before you say eating no greens is bad, keep in mind that most not old people die because of obesity, not because of a lack of fiber.
It’s a big achievement for me and I hope that I can get to 90kg in another 3 months..

I’m in a high-stress work situation where the organization is way too reliant on me to maintain day-to-day operations. We’re working on hiring a second person for my role, but it’s likely to take six months to find someone and get them on board.
And I’m afraid that I’m burning out now. I’m tired all the time and grumpy. Worse, in the last couple weeks I seem to be losing the ability to think. I’ll read an email and be unable to make sense of the words, or unable to figure out what to do with it – it’s just a blank white fog in my brain where I should have words and ideas and next steps. My productivity is less than half what it should be, and I’m horribly embarrassed and ashamed of myself.
I’m taking sick days and leaving work early when I can, which helps a bit, but not enough. I’m also doing all the recommended self-care stuff – diet, sleep, exercise. I’m scheduling a doctor’s appointment for next week.
I have a very good boss, which is the only reason I haven’t said screw it all and bought a one-way plane ticket to Tahiti. (I hear it’s a magical place.) Any thoughts on how to approach this with him? Under normal circumstances I’d try to arrange for some vacation time, but I’m afraid a week or two of rest isn’t going to fix the problem, just delay it a while. Any substantial amount of time off is going to really hurt my department. They may need to bring in someone to cover for me, which would be very expensive. I’m afraid it’d destroy my reputation as someone who can be relied on. What options do I have? What should I be doing next?1 -

Fuck! This is why I can't diet.
I can't get shit done, because I keep getting more things to fix. And I'm not talking everyday fixes, this is just plain retarded.
The asshole that my client hired thinks he's a dev. Takes projects that are working and makes small changes. Simply for him to say "I took this project and updated it for our needs."
Then when that shit eventually starts failing, I'm expected to fix it. It's not even that it takes me a long time to fix it. It's just that I'm looking at this thinking "Why are you not working?" Only to later find that, of course, it's been modified. By. Mr. Fucking. Dumbass.
Fuck!4 -

Finished side project last month. It was hell of a ride, about 300-350 hours of programming and solving problems per month for over half a year, including my regular remote job.
Side project was 1 hour commute time from my house.
There were days where I was working over 16 hours per day.
During this roller coaster I also changed my diet to keto and lost about 12kg / 26 lbs.
Kept my regular remote job where I am the only backend developer.
Donated to eff.
Started listen to audiobooks and exercise to keep my mind clear and focused.
Finally I discovered devrant.
It was all crazy shit and I feel happy I did it because now 5 days after I finished this side project I started to think that my life is not so fucked up I thought it is. This gave me my confidence back.
Now it’s time to rest before some new crazy shit would hit my life.

my covid is still not recovered. Today marks the two weeks. I got fever the first day and then fever was gone but body pain and weakness was there. In 2 days, body pain was gone too. Now I couldn't only eat well. So tried light food but after sometime it was harder to eat properly.
Now I'm having the same diet I used to have before covid, but I'm still not feeling well. I feel pain in my shoulders. My heart races almost all the time and that gives restlessness to my days and it's very hard to focus because of that. Family issues, work, excitement of switching companies, even small bit of sound makes me more restless. If someone has the same symptoms when did they last?17 -

Burned out but trapped at work for next 4-6 weeks - need survival tips
I'm 31y/o software dev and I'm completely fried and need advice on how to hang on until I can quit.
After 5 months job hunting, I landed a role that turned into a nightmare. 6 months of being bounced between different teams/scopes/projects with impossible deadlines and covering for incompetent managers/colleagues has left me burned out. Problem is, I'm finalizing a mortgage and can't quit or take sick leave without messing up income verification stage. Need to survive 4-6 more weeks.
Work is toxic and unpredictable - not enough resources given, blaming, shifting priorities, undefined tasks, endless meetings. Fake sense of urgency. Never feeling a sense of completion - there is always something extra that comes up. Documenting everything to have paper trail in case shit hits the fan, but honestly it feels like I'm at war daily and it's exhausting. I'm weeks behind on everything.
I have ADHD and my usual meds (18mg Concerta/10-20mg Lisdexamphetamine of Adixemin brand) aren't working anymore. Im able to fall asleep only after taking 0.2-0.3mg of Xanax or smoking some THC/CBD flowers. Constant brain fog, shot memory, never feel rested. Maybe 2-3 productive hours max daily before I become useless - either depressed or too wired and too anxious to function.
Already tried bunch of supplements (all possible forms magnesium, vitamin D, fish oil, my supplements drawer has like 60 different bottles), cleaned up diet, cut dairy/nicotine/alcohol/caffeine, taking strategic vacation days here and there in beginning or ending of a week.
I also suspected some allergies, tried out quercetine + vitamin c + all possible anti allergy meds - didnt help. I even suspected inflammation - tried curcumin and all other stuff - useless.
Anyone dealt with extreme burnout while trapped in a job? How do you function when your tank is empty but quitting isn't an option?
Only thing that helps is that I work fully remotely. Exercise would help but I cant force myself to do it.
Once the mortgage closes, I'm gone. Get a less stressful job lined up. Just need to survive until then without falling apart completely.13 -

Things I wish I knew when I was younger:
- no matter how clean your teeth are, bad breath won't go away until you clean your tongue. Buy a tongue cleaner and use it after you brush your teeth
- whitening toothpastes don't work, while desensitizing ones work well.
- after you brush your teeth, spit but do NOT rinse!
- when brushing your teeth, keep the toothbrush angled 45 degrees. The bristle ends should touch the area where your gums meet your teeth.
- use sunscreen every morning.
- don't waste money on acne-treating products unless they contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin or adapalene.
- if you want to lose weight, you have to eat MORE, not less. But, that “more” should be protein.
- showering every morning feels like “humanity restored” thing from Dark Souls. Also, clean your damn room and wash your damn windows.
- APS-C DSLR cameras make no sense. For their weight, you can get a full-frame camera, and for their price you can get an APS-C mirrorless cam that will be way lighter.
- If you want a damn thing, save up and buy that damn thing. Don't buy the alternative thing you don't want. You'll be asking “what if” till you either die or buy the original damn thing.
- people aren't replaceable, but many people can fit their designated role. Not being able to replace your ex-boyfriend with his exact copy doesn't mean no one else can be your boyfriend.
- try a MacBook & iPhone as soon as you can to check whether it's your thing or not, because if it is, oh boy are you in for a treat.
- added sugar is evil, but it's beneficial for the economy. It makes you fat, so you need a car, so you buy fuel. Also, you feel guilty because you're fat, so you buy diet products & things to compensate because you hate your reflection in the mirror. You also pay medical fees to treat your newly developed health problems, and you die a day before retirement. Everyone makes a buck on you eating added sugar but you.
- you can use the freshly removed sticker to remove the sticky residue left by that same sticker.
- static typing doesn't solve jack shit.3 -

Developers insist that I give them a sketch file instead of a zeplin doc I'm like ok fine. Then I am told in like three weeks of development that they don't understand the sketch file when they insisted on it. So I'm like ok fine let me put it on zeplin. Then I'm told to compare their work with my designs. And ofcourse it doesn't match. So i sit and literally go through each margin , each padding with them. Then I'm told that they r over riding exsisting styles and say that's alot of development so I say ok I need to ask the product owner if it's gonna take more time. They get mad at me and say why I need to ask this? Like u told me it's gonna take you longer and I need to tell my boss? Then my boss says confirm all the styles with marketing ( everyone btw has seen my designs, reviewed them, and I have confirmed literally every change) and now I've been told to change a button to red ( why r your cta's and errors the same color I have no idea ??!) And then I tell the developers and they make a huge deal about changing the button from blue to red. NO ONE HERE HAS A STRUCTURE TO PRESENT HAND OFF TO THE DELVEOPERS. ITS SO ANNOYING.
Also can I just say in my presentation time and I had spent time on my designs and someone says oh let me show everyone through my screen.
I literally got a word out before all the delveopers in the room start arguing and skipping my design slides like R FO REAL? LET ME GO THROUGH THE JOURNEY ITS MY JOB.
LET ME HAVE CONTROL ON MY DESIGNS

Today I dont feel that good.
I have only 1 month of my holiday temporary job left. After that Im going to university, the place that i have been dreaming about, the place where finaly i would finish my projects, where i would meet people like me that could support, help me with my passions.
I have no idea where i got that wave of saddnes. Normaly i dont feel that way. Job is unconfortable and sometimes stressing a bit but it is not the end of the world.
I just want to stay in confy bed for the whole day but i cant, i need that money for uni.
I tried to code yesterday but i just couldnt focus! Always when i try to finish the project, no matter what it is i just lose my motivation, its just gone.
Sometimes I wonder if that university is going to be as good as i was imaginig it, after numerous rants on devrant about their uni im not so sure... That dosent help me with my mood.
Is my terrible mood caused by loneiness? bad diet? or lazyness?
I just dont know... I just want to feel better. I just want to survive that month somehow, without that crushing feeling and constant depression.3 -

I really hate this disgrace of a burnout.
Seriously.
Who can live with this thing crippling your energy?
This guy that comes to a ride but you only realize after 3 hours driving.
You came this time? When I fucking need to do hundreds of things on my life and for my clients?
Now I gonna spent my fucking MONEY and my fucking TIME to make this sucker less present.
Because doctors aren't cheap, nor changing my diet.
At least I can handle my clients. And tell them that some personal things came up.
But family?
They don't give a shit.
Specially when you are a guy that they love to tell you to work a 'regular' 9 to 5 but love even more your salary. Because you don't work a regular 9 to 5 job!
And I think that's more messed up.
Don't having a fucking support is frustrating. -

yesterday i completed around 5 months of working out 5 days/week. this has been incredibly hard as i never worked out for more than 2 days in my 24 years on earth.
but i took a pic of mine in the mirror and my fat belly gave me the most depressing sight to see and question whether it was worth the effort.
i mean, surely i can do 50+ pushups now and have started seeing a few changes in shoulder/ chest area, and a few friends/collegues have appreciated my working out habit , but not getting out the only area that i want to go away, this sucks :/
tbh my plan was to see where this experiment of creating a new hobby goes and i did not do the hard steps (like doing cardio more than body part workouts and taking calorie deficit diet). am also a vegan and didn't consumed any fitness products like creaine nd stuff, so not a very nutrition rich diet.
guess i can't ignore the hard steps anymore . just once in my life if i could get a split chiseled stomach :/ (and maybe some cute girlfriend)4 -

I have a lot of fun during crunch time.
It's like running a marathon. It is both physically and mentally taxing, and I get a rush out of seeing how hard I can push myself.
But like a marathon, it suuuuucks if you are not prepared, or you otherwise didn't want to do that.
You hear that bosses?
Crunch is like running a marathon. That thing that people, who prepare for years to do, still causes them to piss and shit themselves while their nipples bleed. And that's when they are fully prepared. That is what you are asking your team to do without any notice ahead of time.
"Ok Derrick, I know you wanted to visit your family in the country this weekend. But we need you to run uphill, fuled only by diet dr pepper and fear of loosing your job, untill you pass out and need an I.V. to keep you from stroking out. '

Health.
This is a big thing I think. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm overweight and this job keeps me at a desk for long periods of time.
I ended up with health issues from a combination of a bad diet, a staph infection years ago, and not being active. So I've made a commitment to start walking - at least a mile a day.
I'm using Pacer + Apple Health on iOS to track my progress. So far, combined with a $50 bluetooth scale I picked up on Amazon, I'm losing weight. I also noticed that when I switched my mile walk to my lunch break, I'm coming back to my work way more refreshed.
I hope to keep this up and I've found the gamification of having apps track my progress is a definite plus.
Anyone else have any healthy habits of "health hacks" they've found?4 -

I wish that my previous company gets investigated. They probably got more violations if they are investigated. Here are a few examples:
The company is in the telecom business and they wanted to create AI summaries of their phone calls. So they used real private calls of their clients as test data without their knowledge & consent.
The CEO also made fun of someone handwritten CV on LinkedIn. Sure, he blurred out the obvious data but shit like certificates, past history & rough location was still present. It was not be hard to find who it was.
The 2FA of some IT services was still on the ex-CTOs private phone (now he is a consultant 1x a week)
One of their engineers moved back to Russia and has access to sensitive data. (aka call recording of insurances, banking, fire departments, ...)
Offering users to write a public review of the company for a discount if the review is positive. The "paid review" is not mentioned.
The reviews of their new feature are done by 'external' people but they all benefit from the companies success. The review is written from their own company but it was written by the external design company (CEOs wife under her own company), marketing consultant (under his own company).
They did fire an employee illegally (as in did not follow the legal procedures, the new COO thought she was a consultant, she was in fact not so she had more protections)
They did fire an employee for untrue reasons and waiting till he was on holiday & abroad (dick move but legal I think)
They did spy through the security cameras and made up a reason to fire someone. Company offered free soda during that time, employee did not like the offered soda and filled it with a diet-variant on their own dime. He then took his own bought diet-soda back home (not all) and got fired for stealing. (or idk, it might have been ice tea or fanta)
They did not report that an employee sold company data but he was let go.
They run cookies on their website but has no clause for cookie-consent.
Their features that they are promoting & selling is not working like expected
They lie about their server uptime or heavily manipulate it.
They sell a feature that is no longer supported and broke a few updates ago.
They are offering a product as a fix that is simply not longer supported by the development team
They have fired consultants and then refuse to pay their last month salary or only pays it partially. Happened as far as i know, 4 times (no proof).
Everyone had access to the full password vault including the login credentials for business routers and the credit card info of the CEO, CFO, CTO. It took me multiple times to report it to the IT admin for mine to be restricted.
Every new dev has access to production data within a few weeks or direct database access
Any person who has access to the admin-portal can spoof phonenumbers in a few clicks.
A colleague is blacklisted at the police portal for past crimes where they have to fulfil police orders. He did them pretending to be a different employee who was approved. Also, they do not keep track of the data needed to fill in the yearly report (idk why the company has to them but the police does not do it).
They forgot to implement a warning (legally needed) before someone hits their data limit. those people cannot be billed. Someone was watching 4k movies in Signapore and costed the company tens of thousands of Euro.
If I think of more, I'll add it comments lol11 -

I have a job with health insurance but I’m so stressed out that I overeat and so busy that I don’t have time for prolonged exercise to burn more calories. Ironic that I was healthier when I worked for a diet and exercise company 100% remote that didn’t have a health plan vs driving to work for one that does have a health plan. This feels really upside down.5

I recently started a new job where I’m working with someone who is vegan. This is great and I have no problems with it at all. My diet also leans heavily towards vegan and I understand and sympathize with the reasons that can lead to this choice.
However, I seem to keep ending up in inadvertent conflict with my colleague in ways that surprise and baffle me. For example:
* After buying and showing him a vegan product I had just purchased (and commenting that I had done so in the hope of avoiding a more animal-product based health solution), I found myself harangued at length about how healthy non-vegan foods weren’t actually healthy, and “Would you eat a human? Have they done trials on the benefits of eating humans? No? Exactly!”
* I sent an all-office IM asking if anyone wanted a cheese sandwich I had accidentally bought (accidentally in that I thought I had bought a different filling). I received an email back from him demanding that I don’t include him on any further “offensive” emails. This was followed up by an office update telling all staff to use work communications appropriately.
I enjoy my job and I did enjoy working with this person, but now I feel quite thrown and unsure of how to react to him. I’m pretty annoyed at being accused of being offensive for my use of the words “cheese sandwich” and don’t want to bring it up as I can’t see a way of that conversation going well (I’m not planning to apologize; I don’t think I need to?!). I realize the obvious solution is just to never ever mention food (or nutrition or words that aren’t vegan) again, but I need help with how to get back to a place where I feel like I am comfortable in my work environment rather than slightly on edge in case he kicks off at me again for some insane reason.9 -

I want to open a private rehab where I would delete your social media accounts, take your phone/laptop/internet access away, get you treated by a psychiatrist, make you take your pills on time every time, make you work, then spend your free time on quality things like reading books or making art, or exercising, or just sleeping, and when you disobey and say this and that — I'll beat you with a fucking whip. Oh, and you'll have a normal balanced diet with no junk food, sugar or sweeteners.
I swear to god that 90% of people's problems are solved by therapy followed by cattle prodding.9 -

I tried to make it do a dieting plan.
I literally gave it everything.
Macros, kcal, a restricted list of 15 foods and asked to do some bulk cooking list to make the diet later.
It can't do basic math to figure out macros and not only, it fucking halluicinates like a crazy LSD druggie even doing a few lines of that shit.

I want to go to gym but im too broke
Gyms in my country are expensive as fuck. German gym Synergy (im not from germany) costs $27 not per month but per 7 trainings within 1 month. That means if i go every day monday through sunday i have wasted my ticket and have to pay another $27. And thats just the minimum package level, there are other more expensive packages out there that include sauna and various other shits. Other gyms are just as expensive, more or less
On top of that I'd have to pay the private gym coach several hundreds of euros (depending on gym coach) ranging from 100-500 or more euros per month. I live in a country where engineer's minimum salary is 500 euros per month
Not to mention the special expensive food I'd have to eat to follow the training diet which will cost additional several hundred euros more??
double costs = gym + coach + food;
It saddens me to throw away so much money on a liability like this. I'd rather throw that money into some crypto asset thats gonna yield me more money
How the fuck do people afford gym? I want to go to the gym but im too broke for this... Like how perfect and complete life do some people already live in order to be able to afford gym membership so easily?
I cant believe im working such a difficult software java backend job and cant afford a goddamn gym membership
Edit: I just wanted some minimal workouts to maintain my physical health, not some intensive sports workout. Just enough so i look good physically but not too much difficult or heavy weight workouts because i dont care about bodybuilding etc thats not my primary job. So therefore if im asking for bare minimum shouldn't there be some ultra cheap option for me?7 -

					!dev
Personal rant, but as one shouldn't bottle up emotions, probably not so bad idea....
Started with diet and exercise in the vacation, as finally a certain thing starting with C calmed down...
Its maddening how fucked up the world is. Now as a lil private info (that might not be so unknown, shared multiple times here) - my body is a train wreck.
Lungs are fucked, muscle distrophy, some other things are fucked.
I'm the kind of thing every gym trainer dreads - the client that needs not only a lot of ass whooping, but also has a lot of problems that need to be taken care of.
Which is why I rather do exercise at home, cause... My experiences with humans in gyms are bad. Most trainers behave like fucking chimpanzees screaming commands while not listening what one tells them...
First challenge: Find a low impact cardio training.
What one mostly finds is a female chick (which is sad cause I like men more for obvious reasons), that should gain some weight, screaming at ya how great sport is while jumping around like a bunny on ecstasy.
Low impact isn't really low impact when you jump around, lil bunny... And it isn't low impact when you just let yourself fall to the floor and start doing push ups.
If an obese person like me did that, it would end in pain, frustration and an empty fridge TM.
So one has to painfully look and skip through 20 min vids of "Non low impact low impact YouTube / ... vids" to find one that is doable without wrecking the body even further... Yaaaay. That makes one totally not feel depressed :-)
The other thing that I always hate is dieting. Note that I don't have to change much - I'm basically on a diet since years, holding weight the whole time.
The jolly fun is that I can't take off with just an diet. If you never heard that such thing is possible, a lil advice: It is possible. Nothing hurts more than being told that eating less solves all problems magically - cause it doesn't.
What I usually need is added protein, as I suffer from muscle dystrophy in my left side. (hence the low impact vids).
If you go to a grocery store, you most likely find *tons* of protein stuff.
The fun thing is that roughly 80 % of that are - like all things in a supermarket - completely bullshit.
I know one could avoid using protein powder / ... - but that makes dieting a very very very hard task, as one has to not only do a lot of planning, but cooking and eating becomes a depression palooza... It just doesn't make fun when you have to scale components for every meal or force yourself to eat e.g. 250 g of low fat curd cheese to gain the necessary proteins.
Why is supermarket stuff so shitty....
Added sugar / saccharides . When one has been dieting for long for health reasons, one finds out pretty quick that most products (especially those labeled as healthy / fat reduced / "weight loss") are perfectly made to lead to a sugar crisis and binge eating.
I've found protein drinks containing up to 25 g of sugar per drink (330 ml).
A coke has 27 g of sugar per 250 ml...
:) Now isn't that jolly...
I've found my stuff of joy not so long ago (not advertising here, but depending on flavor it has only up to 3 g (!)) of sugar per drink)...
It just annoys me and pisses me off how much money is made - in my opinion deliberately - on the suffering of other people...
Most laws by the way end up being blocked by lobbyists - most nutrient scores etc are just "wrong" or better to unspecific... Making exploitation pretty easy.
It's funny how everyone has an opinion on obese people, everybody is pointing fingers and explaining how stupidly easy it is to take off... And at the same time no one gives a damn about shit like that.
That's all folks. Feeling better now.
By the way, I'm doing fine. I lost 7 kg already, though the train wreck of body was pretty pissed the last two weeks as everything hurts.
Another reason why motivational speeches are dumb in videos: Pain isn't fun. :)1 -

CBD oil has been used for years by individuals, who want to reduce their dependence on drugs. It was only recently that CBD was studied for possible pain relief by medical professionals. It is a highly important part of any healthy diet, because it is an important natural compound in plants.
Since the ancient Chinese first use marijuana as a medicinal treatment in 3000 BC, various cultures have used its healing properties, for a variety of medical conditions. However, in modern society, people often rely on pharmaceutical drugs to deal with their pain. One of the common problems with painkillers is that they can cause a number of side effects that can worsen your health. These side effects include depression, anxiety, insomnia, irritability, suicidal thoughts and more. Therefore, people have been turning towards natural remedies for their pain relief.
CBD oil has been shown to be very effective at reducing your pain, especially if you are taking narcotic painkillers. It is believed to stop or prevent the onset of physical discomfort, which means it does not provide temporary relief. As long as you are using it regularly, it can effectively help you overcome your pain.
In recent studies, medical professionals have suggested that the effectiveness of CBD was increased when it was combined with other herbs, such as ginger and eucalyptus. The main reason for this is that these two herbs have a great deal of medicinal qualities. Many people choose to combine these two natural ingredients to help reduce the amount of chemicals in their body, which will lead to a reduction in pain. By taking these products together, you will feel a reduction in pain faster than ever before.
You need to take care when using these products, however, as it is important to make sure that you do not take more than one product at a time. Taking too much of a product can actually create a higher chance of adverse reactions.
People have discovered that by taking CBD oil, they can relieve their pain, without relying on pharmaceutical drugs. If you have been using painkillers for a long period of time, try using a supplement to help you get the relief you are looking for.
Another great thing about CBD oil for pain relief is that it will help you maintain a healthy appetite. Studies have shown that when people eat foods high in CBD, such as hemp seeds and hemp oil, their bodies release natural hormones to help them fight off hunger.
If you are interested in finding out more about CBD oil for pain relief, check out. They can tell you about the various uses of the oil, the different strains of it and what to expect from it when using it.

When I browsed for a Food Recipes (Especially Indian Food) Dataset, I could not find one (that I could use) online. So, I decided to create one.
The dataset can be found here: https://lnkd.in/djdh9nX
It contains following fields (self-explanatory) - ['RecipeName', 'TranslatedRecipeName', 'Ingredients', 'TranslatedIngredients', 'Prep', 'Cook', 'Total', 'Servings', 'Cuisine', 'Course', 'Diet', 'Instructions', 'TranslatedInstructions']. The datset contains a csv and a xls file. Sometimes, the content in Hindi is not visible in the csv format.
You might be wondering what the columns with the prefix 'Translated' are. So, a lot of entries in the dataset were in Hindi language. To take care of such entries and translating them to English for consistency, I went ahead and used 'googletrans'. It is a python library that implements Google Translate API underneath.
The code for the crawler, cleaning and transformation is on Github (Repo:https://lnkd.in/dYp3sBc) (@kanishk307).
The dataset has been created using Archana's Kitchen Website (https://lnkd.in/d_bCPWV). It is a great website and hosts a ton of useful content. You should definitely consider viewing it if you are interested.

How to Manage Bipolar Disorder Naturally Alongside Medication
Bipolar disorder is a complex condition characterized by extreme mood swings, ranging from episodes of intense mania to debilitating depression. While medication forms the backbone of treatment, many patients seek natural methods to complement their prescribed regimen.
Managing this disorder holistically can improve overall well-being and reduce the severity of symptoms.
Understanding Bipolar Disorder and Its Types
Bipolar disorder is categorized into different types, each with varying symptoms and intensities:
• Bipolar I Disorder: Characterized by at least one full-blown manic episode that may or may not be followed by a depressive episode.
• Bipolar II Disorder: Involves recurring episodes of hypomania and major depression, but not full-blown mania.
• Cyclothymic Disorder: Features chronic mood fluctuations that are less severe than those seen in Bipolar I or II.
________________________________________
Bipolar Disorder Symptoms in Females
• Longer depressive episodes compared to manic episodes
• Rapid cycling between moods
• Increased anxiety during mood episodes
• Heightened emotional sensitivity
________________________________________
Natural Ways to Manage Bipolar Disorder
Incorporating natural strategies into your treatment plan can help stabilize mood and improve quality of life.
Here are some of the most effective methods:
1. Nutrition and Balanced Diet
Eating a well-balanced diet is essential for managing mood and energy levels. Focus on foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish, chia seeds, and walnuts, as they are known to support brain health. Avoid excessive sugar, caffeine, and processed foods.
• Tip: Include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to maintain steady energy levels.
2. Regular Exercise
Physical activity triggers the release of endorphins, which act as natural mood elevators. Exercise also reduces stress and promotes better sleep, both of which are critical in managing bipolar symptoms.
• Recommendation: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise, such as walking, jogging, or yoga, five times a week.
3. Sleep Hygiene
Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule is crucial, as disruptions can trigger manic or depressive episodes. Develop bedtime routines and avoid stimulating activities like screen time before bed.
• Practice: Meditation or deep-breathing exercises before sleep can calm the mind and help maintain restful nights.
4. Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness practices, including meditation and breathing exercises, can reduce stress and help patients better regulate their emotional responses. These practices increase awareness of mood changes, allowing individuals to act before a full episode occurs.
• Simple Practice: Set aside 10-15 minutes daily for mindfulness meditation.
5. Herbal Supplements
Some natural supplements, such as St. John’s Wort and Omega-3s, have been shown to benefit mood regulation. However, always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any supplements, as they may interact with prescribed medications.
How Psychological Therapies Complement Natural Methods
Natural strategies alone may not be enough to manage bipolar disorder fully, but combining them with psychological therapies enhances the benefits. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy, and family-focused therapy help address thought patterns, coping strategies, and relationship issues. Several experienced mental health professionals, including bipolar disorder psychologist doctors in Gurgaon, can guide patients through personalized therapy sessions for better outcomes.
When to Seek Professional Help from best Psychologists and Psychiatrists
While natural approaches can complement treatment, they are not substitutes for medical care. Patients experiencing severe mood changes should consider consulting one of the best doctors for bipolar treatment in Gurugram or bipolar disorder specialists in NCR. These professionals provide comprehensive care by combining medication, therapy, and lifestyle recommendations.
________________________________________
Conclusion
Managing bipolar disorder naturally alongside medication requires dedication and a combination of methods tailored to the individual’s needs. Balanced nutrition, regular exercise, good sleep hygiene. However, professional guidance is essential to ensure these strategies are effective and safe.
If you or someone you know is facing symptoms, reaching out to experienced psychologists and specialists in Gurugram can make a world of difference. By blending natural methods with expert care, individuals can take significant steps toward achieving long-term stability and improved well-being.

Located in Herndon, VA, at 2341 Dulles Station Blvd #008, our holistic approach to fitness includes not just biomechanically optimized workouts but also expert nutrition advice that is tailored to meet your specific needs and goals.
Why Nutrition Matters in Your Fitness Journey
Nutrition is the foundation of any successful fitness program. The right nutrients help fuel your workouts, support muscle growth, and accelerate recovery. Without proper nutrition, even the best training program can be less effective. Here's how nutrition plays a vital role in your fitness journey:
Fueling Your Workouts
Eating the right foods before and after your workouts ensures that you have the energy to perform at your best. Carbohydrates provide energy for intense workouts, while protein is essential for muscle repair and growth. Healthy fats also support joint health and long-lasting energy.
Muscle Growth and Repair
After a workout, your muscles need proper nutrition to repair and grow. Protein is the key nutrient for muscle recovery, and consuming it in the right amounts and at the right times can make a significant difference in your progress. At Beyond Biomechanics, we help you understand the role of macronutrients (protein, carbs, fats) in optimizing muscle recovery.
Supporting Overall Health
Nutrition isn’t just about building muscle or burning fat—it’s about supporting your overall health. Proper nutrition supports immune function, reduces inflammation, and enhances mood and mental clarity. A balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants is essential for maintaining long-term health and well-being.
Enhancing Weight Loss or Management
Whether you're looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy body composition, nutrition plays a significant role in achieving your goals. A personalized nutrition plan will help you achieve the right calorie balance, optimize fat loss, and ensure you're getting enough nutrients to stay energized.
Preventing Injuries and Promoting Recovery
Nutrition is crucial not only for performance but also for preventing injuries and promoting recovery. A well-balanced diet that includes anti-inflammatory foods and sufficient hydration supports muscle and joint health, reducing the risk of strain and injury during workouts.

Understanding Perimenopause and Menopause
Perimenopause and menopause are natural biological phases in every woman’s life, but they can bring about a range of physical, emotional, and mental changes. Here’s a closer look at each stage:
Perimenopause: This is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, typically beginning in a woman’s 40s, although it can start earlier. During perimenopause, the ovaries gradually produce less estrogen, leading to fluctuations in hormone levels. This phase can last anywhere from 4 to 10 years, and women may experience symptoms such as irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and changes in skin or hair.
Menopause: Menopause is officially diagnosed when a woman has gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. This phase marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years and is associated with a significant decrease in estrogen production. Symptoms can include hot flashes, weight gain, vaginal dryness, low libido, fatigue, and changes in mood.
While these changes are natural, they can affect a woman’s quality of life. Fortunately, at Well Taken Care Of™, we are dedicated to helping women manage these transitions and improve their overall well-being.
How Well Taken Care Of™ Can Support You Through Perimenopause and Menopause
At Well Taken Care Of™, we take a holistic approach to women’s health, providing support through nutrition, lifestyle adjustments, and functional medicine. Our goal is to help you find balance during perimenopause and menopause and empower you to live a vibrant, healthy life.
1. Personalized Nutrition Plans
Hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause and menopause can lead to weight gain, fatigue, and other physical changes. Our nutritionists can help you create a balanced, sustainable diet that supports your body’s needs during this time. This may include:
Hormone-balancing foods: Certain foods can support hormonal balance and reduce symptoms like hot flashes. We’ll guide you on including nutrient-dense foods that promote estrogen production, such as flaxseeds, tofu, and leafy greens.
Anti-inflammatory diet: Inflammation can worsen symptoms of menopause, such as joint pain and mood swings. We’ll help you incorporate anti-inflammatory foods like berries, nuts, and fatty fish to reduce discomfort.
Blood sugar regulation: Many women experience blood sugar imbalances during menopause, leading to weight gain and fatigue. Our nutritionists will provide meal plans that keep your blood sugar levels stable throughout the day.
2. Functional Medicine Approach
Functional medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of health issues. At Well Taken Care Of™, we use functional medicine to assess and address hormonal imbalances, digestive health, and inflammation—all of which can be exacerbated during perimenopause and menopause.
We offer personalized treatment plans that may include:
Hormone testing: We can test your hormone levels to understand your unique needs and help identify any imbalances that may be contributing to symptoms.
Herbal and supplement support: Based on your individual needs, we may recommend supplements such as magnesium, vitamin D, and phytoestrogens to help support hormone balance and reduce symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings.
Gut health support: Hormonal changes can impact gut health, leading to bloating and digestive discomfort. We provide dietary and supplement recommendations to improve digestion and support a healthy gut microbiome.
3. Lifestyle Coaching and Stress Management
Stress can exacerbate many symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, including anxiety, sleep disturbances, and hot flashes. Our health coaches can help you incorporate relaxation techniques, such as:
Mindfulness and meditation: These practices can reduce stress, improve sleep, and support emotional well-being during this transition.
Breathing exercises: Deep breathing exercises can help alleviate symptoms like hot flashes and anxiety.

					Introduction to Vascular Health
Vascular health is essential for the proper functioning of the circulatory system, responsible for delivering oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. Healthy blood vessels help ensure effective blood flow, reducing the risk of chronic conditions like Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), Venous Disease, and complications related to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). When blood flow is restricted or obstructed due to vascular conditions, various organs can suffer, affecting overall health and quality of life.
Vascular Health
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
What is Peripheral Arterial Disease?
Peripheral Arterial Disease is a common circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs. Primarily affecting the legs, PAD is usually a result of atherosclerosis, where fatty deposits build up on artery walls, obstructing blood flow.
Symptoms of PAD
Leg pain, cramping, or fatigue, particularly during walking or exercise
Numbness or weakness in the legs
Coldness in the lower leg or foot
Wounds on toes, feet, or legs that are slow to heal
Risk Factors and Prevention
Risk factors include smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity. Lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, maintaining a balanced diet, and regular exercise are crucial to preventing and managing PAD. Early diagnosis is key to reducing complications, which can include severe leg pain, limited mobility, and, in severe cases, amputation.
Treatment Options for PAD
PAD treatment options range from medication to manage blood flow to procedures like angioplasty and vascular surgery for severe cases. Lifestyle changes and consistent follow-up with healthcare providers are important for managing PAD and preventing further complications.
End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and Dialysis
Understanding ESRD and Dialysis
End-Stage Renal Disease occurs when the kidneys lose most of their functional ability, requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant for survival. Dialysis helps eliminate waste, salt, and excess water to balance the body’s electrolytes, compensating for kidney function.
The Vascular Connection
Dialysis requires access to blood vessels, which often involves creating a fistula or graft, usually in the arm. Over time, these blood vessels can experience complications like narrowing, blockages, or infections, impacting both vascular and overall health. Monitoring and managing these issues is crucial for people undergoing dialysis to prevent severe complications.
Symptoms and Treatment
Symptoms of ESRD include fatigue, difficulty concentrating, swelling in the legs and ankles, and persistent nausea. ESRD patients must adhere to a strict treatment plan that includes dialysis, medication, and dietary changes. Managing vascular health is particularly critical for these patients due to the increased risk of vascular disease associated with kidney failure and dialysis.
Venous Disease
What is Venous Disease?
Venous Disease encompasses a range of conditions where veins, particularly in the legs, fail to function properly. Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) and varicose veins are two common types of venous disease, often resulting from faulty valves in the veins. When valves don’t close properly, blood pools in the legs, causing pain, swelling, and other symptoms.
Symptoms of Venous Disease
Swelling in the lower legs and ankles
Pain or a heavy feeling in the legs, especially after standing
Discoloration or thickening of the skin around the ankles
Visible varicose or spider veins
Risk Factors and Prevention
Risk factors include age, genetics, obesity, prolonged sitting or standing, and a sedentary lifestyle. Preventive measures include regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and wearing compression stockings for those at high risk.
Treatment Options for Venous Disease
Treatment ranges from lifestyle adjustments, compression therapy, and medications to minimally invasive procedures like sclerotherapy, laser therapy, or vein stripping for severe cases. Early diagnosis and intervention can improve symptoms and prevent complications like leg ulcers and blood clots. -
