Woman couldn't reach the login page of her hosting account.
After 15 minutes of debugging she found out that her Internet wasn't turned on.
This shit is the fucking reason why I drink alcohol.19 -
> Customer calls
Her: I have over 5k 404 request to [insertwebsite]/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
Me: Sound like a missconfigured exchangeserver/client. Let me have a look.
> Takes a look and can confirm the IP and the owner of that IP
Me: It looks like someone/something from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is failing to resolve autodiscover.[insertdomain].com
and defaults to @ record on the zone. Do you happend to know to whom that IP belongs?
Her: No, and I dont care, just block it. I do not like the 404 that shows up on the summary.
Me: Alright
> Blocks the IP in the firewall.
>>> Fast forward to next day >>>
> Someone calls, it is the same girl
Her: I cant reach my website! Infact, I cant reach anything! WHYYYYYY!!!
> I remember, blocking that IP yesterday...
Me: Oh, can you please visist "minip.se" (whatismyip.com, swedish version) and tell me what you see?
Her: Yes, it is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Me: Do you remember that IP that you request that I block yesterday?
> I can hear the shame coming from the phone.
> Turn out that her collegues did'nt have any mail delivered to them from the time I blocked their IP
> Her boss is really mad
> Atleast she had a cute voice12 -
I had a client reach out to me to build a website for a company they’re starting.
The email was well-written and I was considering doing it—but then I read the last sentence.
“I think it’s appropriate for you to do it for free since I took the time to reach out to you”9 -
I was downloading a 17 GB file with my sh*tty connection and it took me like 2 days to reach 16.5/17 GB. I paused the download for half an hour to do smth, I unpaused it and guess what? IT RESETTED TO NULL DATA OUT OF 17 GB. ;-;32

Warning: This is going to be a long one!
Day 1: Fresh outta grad school. Joined a start-up in silicon valley (50% lower pay than avg salary) . Moved to the bay area and rented a car to travel to work. First day, all excited, drive 35 miles to work.
It's a small company with just 5 people. Greeted by the CEO himself. Asks me to wait outside while he goes speaks with the project manager. In the meantime the office manager asks if I have a copy of my resume.
10 minutes later, the CEO walks out and tell me: "I'm sorry but I don't have a job for you at this time. Please come back after a month". Palms are sweaty, Knees weak, arms are heavy. I feel my heart skipping several beats. As an F1 student I immediately start thinking about my visa status.
I drive back home and try to think what I should do next. Then suddenly the CEO calls me back saying pls come back and we can work something out. I drive back and I'm offered a small spot on a round table with my colleagues. Everyone looks stressed out and sad.
Day 2: Work starts early since we need to collaborate with a team in India. I reach work at 6:00 am hoping my second day is better than the first. Couple minutes into the early morning meeting, the CEO flips out and screams: "I'm going to fucking fire everyone. This fucking thing is taking too long. Just get the fuck out already".
Day 547: I finally quit and joined another start-up :)10 -
Now there was this meeting where our boss called our team to reach at exactly 8:00 . One minute more and you will be fired.
Turns out he himself reached at 8:15 for the meet. And we were just staring him, wanting to say, "Hey boss, you don't need to come anymore. YOU ARE FIRED."9 -
Product replying to Jira ticket: We think this issue has been resolved. Can you please reach out to the user and confirm?
Customer care: User xxx has responded to say she "has given up in frustration, and the app simply doesn't work". She has requested to have her account deactivated. This user has requested to not be contacted any further by the program.
Hows your day going devrant? mines going VERY well5 -
People that make shit like the original tweet piss me off.
So what if I like to spend a lot if my time looking at social media and on my phone? I can name lots of things that are more unhealthy than social media and enjoying modern technology.
Don't get me wrong, it does reach unhealthy levels when you're obsessed with the likes or followers and allow it to consume your life. But fuck off Gareth; the average user that you'll claim is "addicted" isn't even that bad.
And it's ironic that you'd post this on a social media that you're bitching about.
With all this being said, I hope you enjoy the sarcastic reply. I almost cropped it out but decided it was pretty funny, so I left it.21 -
Recruiter: "Ashleigh, I have a client that has asked me to reach out to you. They use really modern tech"
Me: "Oh Yea? What like?"
Recuriter: "es2015 and symfony 2"
Me: "fuck off"4 -
Hey Root. Here’s a new ticket for you. It involves lots of things you’ve never seen before, and the only person you can ask is out this week.
Hey Root. Why haven’t you been making good progress every day? Why didn’t you reach out to the guy on FTO? Clearly you can’t communicate. Give me detailed status updates twice a day at specific times, covering <exhaustive list of topics> so I know you’re working. What do you mean “no”!?
Hey Root. Stop working on that ticket, and work on this other ticket. It’s the same thing, but different. High-priority!
Hey Root. You asking questions about that ticket pissed off a legendary golden boy principal dev, and he said it’s a bad idea and that we should have assigned it to a different team, too — you know, the team who usually works on these areas. But we might still have you do it. Please work on the previous ticket that’s in the exact same area until we decide.
Hey Root. Why haven’t you gotten anything done?12 -
Infinite loop...
Got a story assigned with no requirements listed this sprint. Since I finished the rest already I was like, lets be pro-active and see what it's about during the stand-up.
Me: Hi, I only have story X remaining, what's it about, there are no requirements listed in Jira?
SM: Yeah person Y is going to reach out to you with the reqs.
Me: Ok, when is Y going to reach out?
SM: Y doesn't have time now, will probably be in 2 weeks.
Me: Ok, so why is the story included in this sprint then?
SM: Because they want X implemented this sprint.
(Me wondering if the Scrum Master is familiar with infinite loops, thinking let's try this out)
Me: Ok, if X should be completed, can Y reach out to me with the requirements?
SM: Y doesn't have time now, will probably be in 2 weeks.
Me: Ok, why is the story included in this sprint then?
Stand-up lasted a lil' longer today... Hope the SM got the message not to assign stories without reqs or clear communication anymore.5 -
And BAM. Wrote a quick'n dirty little php script which works with loads of shell_exec calls to block all ip addresses belonging to an ASN number.
For example: If I get Facebook's ASN number and use it as parameter for this script with a custom name (for the iptables chain), the script creates a chain called the custom name, adds all ip addresses/ranges it got from the whois lookup (on the ASN number) with DROP to iptables and then it adds that chain to the INPUT and OUTPUT chains.
I've done some tests and can indeed genuinely not reach Facebook at all anymore, Microsoft is entirely blocked out as well already 💜15 -
I once worked Tech Support for a point of sale software package. There was really no internal help desk, so we got all of those questions as well.
One day our front receptionist that her computer is being really weird and she can't type - it keeps inserting 3s in the middle of what she is typing.
I take the short walk down the hall to her desk and see that, indeed, a never ending string of 3s is being input to her screen.
"I can't figure out what's wrong." she says.
Then I reach over and remove the edge of an open binder whose edge was resting on the 3 key and enter key on the num pad.
"That should fix it."
Walked back to my desk.1 -
Worst part of working from home?
Coworkers who just leave a "hi" message when you're away and you have to reach out to them separately to ask them what's going on.
This isn't for casual daily greetings either. I've often ignored these "hello" messages only to find out that the sender had something urgent for me.
If you want to say something, why not leave it in the message itself? What's my immediate availability got to do with anything?22 -
"We are from <Company Name> and wanted to reach out to you in regards to a management level software position, we liked bla bla bla about your resumee and would like to discuss some options with you"
Me: "oh interesting! I just worked with your company last week helping one of our departments implement one of your solutions into their area"
Recruiter: "We know :D"
I am kinda wondering if this is considered poaching7 -
I got through the first stage for a summer internship at Amazon. They send me a link to a technical test with a 7 day deadline to complete.
The link brings me to a 404 page. Fuck.
I contact customer support, reach out to Amazon directly, don't get any response whatsoever. The week has passed and the link is still dead and I s received no word from them.
FML. And fuck Amazon for teasing me like this and for having such shitty technical support.9 -
Today I got a standing aviation by panel in my final year projects presentation. It was such an emotional moment and I went numb. I don't have an impressive grades so it meant a lot to me. I just wanted to share this somewhere please bear with me.
And to anyone out there who think that they can't make it, please just keep going. I just want to say, make your journey beautiful. If you love doing it, you won't care to reach some destination.17 -
-Welcome to our entry level positing with Xyz company. I know we told your recruiter we are very hands on with developers. But we aren’t. Also you will be the only developer and there is no team.
-uh…. Okay..
-for the first part of your interview we are going to have you write a program in node that will reach out to our api and sort medical data with our clients.
-so you want me to create something live, and you’re going to be using it before you hire me in the actual work place?
-if it works, yes. Then we will decide on if we will hire you or not.
Wtaf?6 -
I love when employers reach out to you like desperate fuck boys on a dating app.
Tell me more about your “amazing” benefits package that’s indistinguishable from any other, your PTO that is as “unlimited” as my phone plan, and the empty mustard packets you acquired in series Z funding.
I’ve got all day to watch your dance play out its milky chance. -
My noob friends at college don't understand coding and its purpose. They miss out a semicolon or a closing bracket.
They reach out to me to help them get rid of the errors(too many).
Me: Just add a closing bracket here.
Friends: Boom, you are the god Bro!!!
LOL 😂😛5 -
The reality of mental illness is too much for some. Do something kind and reach out to someone who is struggling but not asking for help. If everyone just reaches out to one person a massive difference can be made.1

Fuck you javascript and your bizarre Date object.
May your ass itch, and arms become too short to reach.
Spend a good hour debugging why this fucker:
(new Date).getDay();
Returns 3, when it's actually the 2nd of May.
Turns out the value returned by getDay is an integer corresponding to the day of the week.
(new Date).getDate(); it is, ಠ_ಠ15 -
A project manager, a computer programmer and a computer operator are driving down the road when the car they are in here a flat tire. three men try to solve the problem
the project manager said: let's catch a cab and in ten minutes we will reach out destination.
the computer programmer said: we have drivers guide.I can easily replace the flat tire and continue our drive.
commuter operator said: first of all turnoff the engine and turn it on again. may be it will fix the problem.
suddenly a Microsoft engineer passed by and said: try to close all windows, get off the car, and then get on and try again. -
The overreach by a single company near or close to near monopoly on the internet is beyond bone chilling.
To be precise, I am talking about Google extending its reach by forcing people to use AMP in the webpages.
I get insta furious when i see my favorite webpages using them and effectively my entire browsing activity on that page is happily recorded for clicks and ads.
To just bypass that i have to unnecessarily add more and more addons to lock them out of my browsing which in turn WEAKENS my entire browser.
And sincerely saying, this sort of outreach is becoming really annoying. Because plain JS and Cookie Blocking will not work. and slowly people are running out of options.
If posts about AMP are being made earlier, I apologize.8 -
Not a Story about an actual hack, but a story about people being dumb and using hacks as an excuse.
A few weeks ago my little cousin would reach out to me because "his Account was hacked...". Supposedly his League of Legends account was hacked by a guy of his own age (14) and this guy was boasting about it.
So i asked the usual things: "Has the email account been hijacked? Did anyone know about details to your acvount access? Etc..."
Turns out that one if his "friends" knew his password and username, but suppsedly erased these Informationen. And that was the part i didn't buy.
This was the point where he lost. Just because i am a programmer does not mean i can retrieve an account he lost because of a dumb mistake that could have easily been avoided. And that guy who was boasting about hacking LoL Account was coincidentally freinds with the friend who had the user credentials and password.
Moral of the Story? The biggest security weakness is almost always the user or a human in between... -

A few years ago I was in high school and used to have a small reputation of hacking things. I could hack, just would never hack any school networks or systems (reputation + notice that there was a breach is a bad combo since everyone would immediately suspect you).
Anyways one day the networks internet connection went down in the school district and I was the only one who used a laptop to take notes. So I quickly opened the terminal and ran Wireshark and said to the person to my right "see that button there? yeah I programmed this last night. anytime I press it I can shut down the network so the teacher can't reach her files (she famously only saved them online). *Long dramatic press* Wireshark started scanning the network so all the numbers and lines were going crazy as it viewed the packet info "Now just wait", soon the whole class knew what I had done through whispers and lo and behold a few minutes later and the teacher couldn't reach her files.
Everyone loved me for the rest of the year for saving them from the homework for the week the wifi network was out since it also ended up having to cancel two tests in the class, and a lot more homework and tests in all their other classes. Solidified my reputation and no one fucked with me from that day on. -
So today I arrived on Ireland to hike for three weeks. Tomorrow I'm heading out together with one single other scout to walk 160 km from point A to point B, both of which are unknown until the minute we start. I'm not quite sure how much internet coverage I'll have, so perhaps there won't be so much ranting, commenting and ++'ing. Sad to leave for almost a month with just a couple of hundred ++'s left to reach the magic 5 digit score. Well, anyways. Unless I appear earlier, have a nice few weeks!5

Seriously, wtf..
- Getting ready for the K.I.D.
- Will need a red LED light/lantern to see things around w/o waking the kiddo up
- Order a bunch of various models
- Receive some of them
- The another one arrives - it only has white and blueish-white modes
- Reach out to the seller, ask to send me what I've ordered
- Seller replies with:
> Hi, friend
> I am very sorry this light is out of stock now
WTF dude... I order a particular SKU of your products, I need it for its particular properties the other SKUs don't have and when you see you've got no more left you do what? Send me a random product? Seriously, WTF man?!? How about ping me with a message, explain that you've oversold the item and suggest a refund? naaah, too much work, right? Just grab whatever products you still have left on your shelf and send them to your customer instead. /s
WTF MAN?!?!2 -
When you reach that point, that level -- a coding apex, and the universe has found you. That feeling as you code, where the ideas, the advanced concepts, they flow out of your mind like beautiful and wonderful poetry. And you smile, because all is well, and you have created something beautiful in a world that needs more beauty. Also, it's lunchtime.2

I posted a long-winded Twitter thread describing the experience I have in software development and advertising that I’m looking for a job. It felt awkward as hell to do, but yolo. I’ve had a few people reach out as a result; here’s hoping something works out. Hilariously, absolutely forgot to talk about databases. 😅

While I prefer tabs over spaces for indentation, I usually don't mind using spaces as this is often decided project-wide(or even company-wide) by powers out of my reach and the people also normally decide to intend by the reasonable 4 spaces.
However, now I am working on a project with 2 spaces indentation and oh boy, what a pain it is to write any nested code.. am I really the only one with this problem?12 -
So not too long ago I made a rant about this time I told my superiors of a problem and it got shot down because "We don't want to save developer time".
I warned them that the CPU was going to reach it's limit because the issue involves exponential growth on CPU usage the more we develop.
As it turned out, despite my thoughts that we wouldn't reach that limit for over a year, a new development led to it blowing up in their face today.
I am now treated as the expert on the topic and they're rushing to plan my suggested implementation in the next release.
I'm mildly amused.3 -
*Teammate writes some instructions for our users and sends it to the rest of the team to review and let her know before she pushes it out
Me: *reads it and lets her know what is missing
Her: Idgaf what any one thinks. If they can’t figure it out, it’s their problem. And if anyone makes changes to it and the users can’t under it either, I’ll tell them to ask whoever made the changes.
Me: *starts cracking up. Like wtf!?!?! You know what, I’m not touching it so if anyone asks I can tell them to reach out to you!
Like, how are you offended because I’m a junior in your team and you can’t take criticism after you’ve personally asked for it? Smh7 -
If finally happened. My cats broke me down.
After years of spotty internet, in which I couldn't resolve websites, to which the solution always was to reach down and push the RJ45 jack with the broken off clip that connects my router to my pihole back in, because my cats pulled it out once again.
They made me do. They finally made me do it. After all those years. Today, my cat pulled it out like ten times in a row... So I finally did it. I walked over in the other room, grabbed a new cable and plugged that one it.
Try that again, cat. I dare you. Try it again! -
For a long time, I wanted to be a part of open source communities. I've been a dev for 6 years now.
I have the skills needed to help out but usually I'm fairly unexperienced on working with big teams, code reviews, and build-test systems they often use. So I'm scared as hell to even begin with. I feel unsecure to reach out and ask for helping or send a basic fix / pull-request.
What are your suggestions, how did you start working on open source projects?

I thought living alone without my family will help me to be more productive but no! When I got out of the office and start walking towards my home, I feel like there is no one waiting for me. What am I doing? When I reach, I feel empty, all alone, by myself. Maybe, it's time to marry someone, maybe a girlfriend? But I don't have any courage to start a conversation with a woman. I just expect someone will talk to me out of interest. But none! Is marrying someone the only solution? having a family is the ultimate peace? IDK12

When you're mentally debugging a module and you have an intuition about the point of failure.
So you start mentally tracking variables, going down functions calls, moving from one class to another until finally you reach that one line of code that you feel is getting the wrong parameters.
You substitute in the 10 different variables you have been mentally tracking and find out that...
THE LINE OF CODE IS GETTING THE CORRECT PARAMETERS, AND IS FUNCTIONING AS IT SHOULD.

Every recruiter voicemail.
Hi (name)
Your resume recently came across my desk and I wanted to reach out and let you know about a couple positions I'm working on. I've looked over your resume and you look like you'd be a great fit.3 -
Team outing.
Planned to send out a code review before the trip. Everything was ready.
Then, someone pushed new changes, and I got damn stuck in fixing the UTs.
Currently, ranting from the resort, missing the commit that wouldn't reach a code review.
I expected to finish this task in 1 hour. Well, I should never ever estimate things.
Note: Played a grand piano though.. yeahhhhh.. -
Calling All Developers!
This is very very random, but I am taking an IT Careers class for my software Development degree. As my last assignment, I need to interview a software developer. I don't know any personally and we were told we can reach out to people online who have had lots of experience. I don't know if this is too weird, but I need an interviewee just to answer about 20 questions. I'm so stuck and don't know where to go!6 -
Was helping an intern with testing and he was trying to hit a specific branch in the code and just couldn't get there. Spent probably 20 minutes trying to figure out what the hell was going on since by all reasonable logic the code should run. Getting other developers involved trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Then discovering he was using a stub of the class with the method we were trying to reach overwritten to simply return null. Pretty much just wanted to go on a walk at that point.

I started off in a MNC company as a junior developer. I entered with candy glasses.
I didn't expect to win the lottery. Of getting abuse by superior.
I stayed for a year, at the project. Constantly being belittled by this team lead. It was awful i enter as a fresh grad. All the new tech were so new and scary at that point.
During my time there, i constantly think that developer is not my stuff.
Ultimately i reach the state of burnout. I reached out to the manager and broke down in his office.
I actually told the manager. "I hate coding"
I remember staying up to 4am just complete a piece of program. To be ready to be push to production the next day. My team lead just come screaming at me saying there is bug.
Upon receiving that message via skype. I broke, tears flow down my eyes.
After which i reach a state of burn out. I start to reach out to external parties for help to get me out of there.
Now i am recovered from the burn out. I am curious of the technology that were utilized in that project. I literally face palm. After understanding the technology it isn't so hard after all. I just didn't gear myself up with the tech.
I still do enjoy working on code.3 -
My previous manager reached out to me (we still work at the same company; different clients/projects/countries). Offered a very temporary project (1-2 months tops). I look at the client's requirements -- sounds super easy, doable in 1 month.
I dig more into the docs, details, other references. Turns out, this invitation has been published publicly and anyone could reach out to them applying for the project. Even I could, outside of my employer.
And the budget is $60k
And now I'm a bit mad at myself for not finding this page earlier. Had I been accepted for the job, I'd have earned $60k in 1 fucking month. And now I'll only get my usual salary
FUCK!
Definitely adding that website to my bookmarks.1 -
Kubernetes is a breeze they said. Now I‘m sitting here for several hours trying to find out why my pods randomly fail to resolve domain names.
Coming along my adventure: broken systemd configs, systemd-resolved stub causing loops, broken k3s modules and finding out that busybox‘s nslookup is broken for versions greater than v1.28.4.
50 issues later, I figured out that the dude who setup the corporate network (where the machine in question is located) uses two nameservers: one to resolve the internal routes and one for all the external domains. Luckily, coredns randomly picks a nameserver for each request. Therefore, sometimes queries for external domains reach the nameserver dedicated to the internal network which then answers with NXDOMAIN.
I hate networking so so much...4 -
When I was a kid I loved Microsoft because they built that thingy that I could play my computer games on. I learned how to reinstall the magical but fragile Windows out of necessity, instantly promoting me to the position of the family's computer whizz-kid.
Now I just see them as one of many shady international mega corporations who on behalf of their shareholders best interest (oh the irony) are fighting to gain power so that they one day may own the planet and basically rule over everything (yess, stocks reach all time high!) -
Does anyone here have experience with AWS CodeCommit?
Do you like it compared to other popular tools like github/gitlab/bitbucket/tfs?
I just started playing with it today and think it's pretty neat, wanted to reach out to the community here and see if you guys/gals know of any gotcha's that you may have encountered?7 -
What’s with all these people saying, “reach out to help for me anytime!” - but when you actually ask for help, they never respond? Like damn looks like I can’t trust ya cad ass anymore.4

- Hi, I need this config set up on the server. What do you think? Could you do it?
- Yeah seems fine. But we need to assess it properly.
- Ok, let me show you in details.
- Err.. hmm, reach out to me tomorrow.

Oh man, I hate depending on other people to finish a fucking job.4 -

Deutsch Bahn, again: A delay of 8 minutes (the DB officially recognizes this as late) results to an impossible to reach connecting train leading to a total delay of ca. 2 hours, as I cannot use the Inter City train anymore, but have to use a "Regional Express" instead.
Out of 5 times travelling this route, I arrived 2 times 2 hours later.4 -
"We'll reach you out soon"
This is a sign you got rejected without hurting you.
"How do you see yourself few years from now?"
Is a sign that your employer would end your contract or you get to be terminated if you say that you will not be in their company.
"What's your expected salary?"
If you went overboard, they won't accept you. You either lower it or never give a fixed salary.
God why did no one tell me about these sooner. I'm facing mind-reading interviewer/recruiter/hr just to please them.3 -
The on thing in an email pisses me off more than “Do the needful”, Or “raised a request”, or even referring to me by my last name is ending an email with “Please advise”.......
Holy Hell. I have never wanted to reach through my monitor and slap the shit out of someone so much. Want to piss me off. Yeah. Finish an email with please advise. Gharrrr!!!10 -
Legit my only answer to fixing shit code for a nursing app at work is.....
Writing more shit code. Man the dude that developed this before had 0 clue what he was doing.....and because shit grew out of control there is shitcode everywhere.
I like writing shit code though. It is good practice.
Writing shit code without knowing is one thing. You really do reach expert level when you write shit code WHILE being fully aware of it.1 -
ok so first post, i would like to say whoever the fuck decided <!----!> was gonna be comments in html, i fucking hate you. not only is it the most ugly comments system out of any language i know, but its so unusable to type out, i'd rather call <script> just to be able to put it in // half the time (if i ever use comments, i rarely do) python its one single character, js its 2 which yeah is kinda annoying but atleast its 2 of the same so i dont have to reach across the fucking keyboard, here comes html the language most devs need nowadays to promote a project at least saying reach across your entire keyboard to fucking write a comment.6

I was teaching a friend of mine how CSS works for her exam and we reach the point where she had to style the tables and she reads:
To avoid having spacing between table cells you can use:
border-collapse: collapse

border-collapse can also have value "separate"
She fucking freaked out like "WHAT THE FUCK IS EVEN THE SENSE OF IT? SHOULD I HAVE BORDER SEPARATE: SEPARATE? WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I WRITE THAT TWICE? HOW THE FUCK DOES THIS EVEN WORK OUT?"
I just loved how she doesn't know how to make a website but she already hates CSS before even using it on an actual browser2 -
I fucking hate Microsoft. I fucking HATE it.
I'm supposed to be setting up a Hyper-V VDI environment on a Windows Server 2019 instance. I got all RDS roles installed, but can't see any fucking templates to make a collection out of.
I don't think that the RDVH role got installed correctly because it can't communicate properly with the RDCB, but both roles are installed on the SAME SERVER. I get stupid and unhelpful errors like "Error: 0: ScenarioBasedDeployment: Job Finished for Cmdlet" and when I tried to create a Quick Start Deployment: "QuickVMCollection: Provisioning job failed. Reason: ". Yeah, I typed that correctly. No reason listed.
I reach out on Technet, and I'm told that I need to contact Microsoft Support directly because my problem is beyond the scope of the forum.
I try contacting Microsoft Support, and they want to charge $499 for a one-time helping fee.
My company does not want to spend any money, and we do not already have support services.
I'm supposed to have VDI set up and working by Friday.

How to get your website reach out people with no advertisements!?
1. Once it's built, make another mock up by changing a few main highlighted words to "(null)" or undefined!
2. Then send the link to any person in the software development field, anonymously!
That person will take care of the rest!
Note: don't forget to change the mock up with the original after u have sent the link!4 -
Out of all the debates we have on devrant... we have yet to reach the most important one.
Ground Coffee or k-cups>16 -
"reach out"
"touch base"
"ping an email over"
Just a couple of examples of terms people like recruiters love using that make you cringe so hard you want to throw yourself under the next bus. Very similar to clients who say:
"can we make it pop"
"I showed it to my graphic designer friend and they said it needs more fonts"
"I've made some improvements in Word for you"5 -
Kinda annoyed at NDA's right now
Can't discuss what I'm working on with old classmates for another opinion. And my co-workers are self-taught on this job as they needed so everything I'm doing seems like magic to them
So they're probably not going to spark that inspiration I need right now
And I can't reach out to the R&D department full of programers with this cause they're heavily behind so we're told no distracting them7 -
I just can't get over the fact that the .com domain I have been eyeing for is still out of my reach. This name popped to my brain after brain storming over a week when I started making sites when i was a teen.
The domain has been sitting there unused with a basic webpage containing some ugly web design from 90s era.
I have been eyeing it for over 6 years now and just found out he renewed it for yet another 3 years!
I don't want to approach him about it either, I'm not that desperate for it that I'd pay millions for it.
The wait continues...
Anyone been in a similar situation?3 -
In response to https://www.devrant.io/rants/334693
Resume is updated. Had an old HR co-worker friend reach out. Had a tour of the office. Introduced to the hiring manager. Scheduling a coffee with my potential boss. I really want this!3 -
I had the opportunity to ask some basic security questions of a government system that is rolling out (got invited to a meeting).
So now I am absolutely terrified about any technology that is being rolled out by this particular government agency. Their security model literally ends at "we use HTTPS".
Seriously, how the fuck are these systems not audited before they reach public use? Is this normal??4 -
Today I talked to a cousin who works in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and he told me precisely why companies like Infosys, TCS and Wipro are moving towards ending WFH and mandating working from office.
He told me that post-COVID hires are treating these software jobs so casually, that they don't ask for leaves. They decide, on their own, when they want to take leave(s) without telling their team members.
They don't pick up phone calls when someone from upper management tries to reach out and they magically show up 3-4 days later. They don't value deadlines.
He told me that these companies do see the benefit of letting people work from home, but the new generation hires are creating a joke out of these positions and are taking blatant advantage of the situation. So they are forced to mandate working from office.19 -
i never knew id reach that point when i need to take a break from programming and everything that has been causing me so much stress for the past few days. and to be honest, it actually feels great to be focused on only one thing instead of stressing out on different projects and debugging them all at once.
in a few days, ill prolly go back to programming some side projects. its not like i can keep myself away from them...
programming is like a magnet for. that magnetic force is growing stronger day by day and im being pulled closer to it. im happy about it except for some occasions when i get too stressed.4 -
Windows 10 insider preview had a critical bug like half a year ago where most browsers would freeze the PC. I've reported it multiple times but my feedback didnt get any attention. The bug made it to production months later...
Now, the story is repeating. I've discovered a bug. Everytime there's a software update for apps that with a built-in updater in the main .exe (JetBrains IDEs, VS etc.) the updater fails, program is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. For instance, there's a minor bump in Android Studio version, if you try to use autoupdater it will corrupt your Android Studio and you'll have to reinstall.
Been trying to reach out to them but the only "real issues" that are highlighted are "no CPU temp in task manager" or "pls improve automatic problem resolving"
Why the fuck do you even have a feedback program if you're ignoring the people who are reaching out to you, you pieces of shit4 -
Top do-over... I was extraordinary in biology and microbiology. For some reason, I still remember every little detail, everything that I was learning regarding it felt so natural and easy for me. My heart was pulling me to IT, in the end, I become an average, okayish IT guy, with reasonable programming, networking, and other IT skills, but I had to suffer the hell out of studying to reach here. I never was in love with biology, but damn, it frustrates the heck out of me that I'm so freaking good at it... So, my do-over would be to go all-in with Biology.2

DB team: We will have someone reach out to you and set up a call for your database support request.
Me: *this will suck...some dude with a super strong accent, audio that sounds like crap on a 56k modem, and horns beeping in the background*
DB team: The support engineer is actually from your same area.
Me: Nice! *maybe an American*
DB engineer: "uh yes ello dish is ramajadeshava and I will be supporting each and every request"
Me: *fuck...but at least there's no horns in the background*1 -
Basically, there are two types of recruiters:
1. "Hi there. After reviewing your profile, I believe you have what it takes to be a <role> in our company."
2. "Hi there. After reviewing your profile, I'm convinced that you have what we need as a <role>."
Interestingly, the former tends to ignore your response if you rejected their advance, while the latter tends to follow up with a "just reach me out if you changed your mind", or even a simple "I understand, thank you for your time".1 -
Wat do you all do when you reach that burn out phase after coding a lot?? Any way that can help me quickly jump back?1

Hello Team, Good morning.
Yesterday I was working on posting a quality rant but couldn't come up with something good. I browsed around other people's rants and started shit-posting in their comment section. I also put multiple hits on the ++ button on funny comments.
Today I will continue on coming up with a quality rant. No blockers, thank you. Rest of the day, I will be browsing other ranter's rants and mess around in their comment section.
Let me know if anyone needs something from me and feel free to reach out.
Thank You.7 -
That moment where you're scared for you job because one of your merges seemingly broke the builds for the 2nd time in a week, had HR reach out, a more senior developer take over the ticket after it gets sent back from testing twice ONLY TO FIND OUT LATER IT WAS ANOTHER PERSONS TICKET THAT WAS CAUSING THE ISSUE6

That feeling when a recruiter sends you a message to do an assessment to join their company as an entry level developer, sends you the link to the assessment but the link doesn’t work.
Then you reach back out to them for 3 days in a row and they don’t read the message or respond.5 -
I’m a mf cutthroat - people who have shit on me before reach out to the depths of a hellhole project in search of me rescuing them, and I only cut their fingers off so they fall back in1

Got a ticket for a program's file sync feature timing out. After debugging forever I finally reach out to IT and get told there was a drive failure and the server RAID array is rebuilding. Gotta love efficient cross team communication.. just let me waste my time thinking it's my problem.

When I do not have much to do, I like to take a look at apps on Google Play, just see what's out there. Then I start to see the opinions of users and go into anger.
I'm Spanish and I'm sick of all those Spanish-speaking people (mostly latin american... sorry but that's true) who mark only one star and make aggressive comments to developers because the app in question is not available in Spanish.
Seriously, are you stupid or what's wrong with you? If the app is in English, it's free, it's good ... learn English and stop complaining !!
Or better, offer to translate it to reach more people!!
Although this is demanding a lot, since this kind of people don't know neither Spanish grammar nor proper spelling at all.1 -
I don't program for days on end. It takes a few weeks and then I fell good about it again. Sometimes I wonder if I even like programming. I do well in college, but I've never had a job as a dev (aside from student "research" positions). I'm worried that I'll just burn out and get fired or quit and lose interest. Maybe I already have? Can't think of any side projects to develop either, they all seem out of reach. Still figuring out how to cope with it. The test grades don't do it for me anymore.1

Got this mail from a recruiter:
"I thought I would reach out to you as I have a client working that is looking for 3 Senior Developers with strong PHP experience and either Smyfony, Laraval or Drupal experience ..."
I have heard that Laraval and Smyfony are great frameworks.3 -
I was thinking today this app is missing messaging. There have been times I wanted to reach out to a specific user, without publicly chatting.2

So got a recruiter reach out to me for a Java position in the medical industry..
Anyone got experience with that kind of stuff?
I'm kinda torn here because I like where I am, as in I like the people and the industry.
The actual work though.. Ugh
This stupid apache wicket framework is killing me.
So
The case for:
-no wicket
-hybrid (at the moment I'm 90% in office)
-More monies are always nice (recently bought an apartment)
The case against:
-I like my people
-I don't really wanna risk another probation (see above, apartment)
-I'm not great with change
-It might be a bit soon (I started my current job in Nov last year)3 -

I had serious depednecy problems for a while. I couldn't find anything similar on the stackoverflow so I had to figure it out myself, so after some planning I found it out that I have to replace a complete module to reach the full potential of the application. To reach the desired speed and the correct output I had to split the input in two and then run one side trough an external module which made some state changes on one part of the input data, then the application merge the output with the rest and returns every single drop in a nice processed way. It works quite well, the user can decide in what percentage of the data shall be processed to get the desired output and the right state. I am really happy with the end result. The picture of the result in the comment.1

They said if I haven't heard back by Friday, I must reach out cause they pretty busy so might not get to reaching out. Thursday evening now. Was hoping to hear back earlier in the week though I knew that's unlikely. Going to email them if I haven't heard anything by 11 tomorrow2 -
Completed all interview stages with a recruitment firm last month. Passed all the stages. They reach out to me to begin with. They reach out to me saying they are currently waiting to hear back from the partner firm whom they shared my profile with but I was successful in the final stage. I asked the recruiter what's up like a month ago and she said she was waiting to hear back from the partner. It's been 4 weeks now and I don't want to seem desperate so I am holding off on emailing the recruiter again. Do u guys think it is a bust offer? The company is prominent here and I feel they wouldn't make me go through all the stages of interview if they didn't have a placement for me. I am so impatient coz I am basically out of a job rn, haven't been paid in the second month and man I need this job coz I know they pay well. What do I doooo???1

First and foremost, it's essential to figure out which IRS office is closest to your location. That, in itself, can be a daunting task, especially if you're not familiar with the area. Using the IRS's online office locator is a helpful start, but sometimes, even that leaves you with more questions than answers.
Then comes the joy of trying to get in touch with someone who can provide the specific information or assistance you need. Long hold times, automated systems, and a seemingly endless stream of recorded messages can leave you feeling like you're caught in an endless loop.
And let's not forget the paperwork. Different IRS offices often have different procedures, so finding the right forms and knowing how to fill them out correctly can be a headache.
In the end, it feels like a journey filled with frustration and uncertainty. But, here's a tip from someone who's been there: persistence pays off. Keep trying, be patient, and, if possible, reach out to others who've had similar experiences. Sometimes, a bit of collective wisdom can make this daunting process a little more manageable.3 -

Woohoo! Finally managed to set up ipv6 tunnelling on my openvpn server, now all my clients can reach ipv6 resources too!
The only hiccup is that I have to manually specify an ipv6 address to each client beforehand, or they won't get one automatically, but that seems to be an OpenVPN-related issue.
Still, feeling great! Finally figured this out :D1 -
This may get me some hate from y'all but let me make a confession here.
I have taken away clients from my previous bosses when they made the mistake of giving the client direct access to me outside the company.
It happened in 2019, my manager gave the client my phone number so they could directly call me and assign me tasks. Well, I left that company and took the client away with me. Heck, I even made more money for the next 4 months from the client than the company was paying me.
Again in 2023 when I left my job, I sent out LinkedIn requests to all members of the client's org, hoping that they'd remember me and reach out for projects. Well, 2 months into leaving the company, they did reach out and now I'm making 3X what I was making before.
I'd do it again in the future again and again. If YOU and I partner up to work for a client, I will make sure that you are out of the equation ASAP.
There, I said it. I've done it twice and I'll do it again in the future.3 -
I'm starting to really regret not meeting more professors in school. I'm trying to found a ctf team at my university and can't get a single professor to agree to advise the club (it's required to use school resources) loads of interested students but I can't find a single staffer. All the computer science professors talk about how important cybersecurity is but they don't want anything to do with it.
I'm so desperate I'm about to reach out to... information systems professors from the college of business2 -

Should I be optimistic about my profession and growth as an android developer, or should i start gaining experience in other domains?
I am currently a Junior Android Developer in a small company which is a subsidiary of a bigger company (TATA) . I currently hold a working experience of 3+ years but in last 5 years , I have mainly explored Android App development the most. I did courses in it, then internships, then switched jobs to reach a decent salary package (more than INR 10 lakh per annum).
Recently I have been pretty worried regarding my career choices and i can't seem to be optimistic about my role as a mobile engineer. I joined my current company 4 months ago, but my switch this time gave me a hike of -10% (you read that right, it was a negative increment since previous company was asking me to relocate and i had no choice but to take this offer)
This switch made me worried not just because of the salary decrement but as a worthy candidate too. I know my tech stack well , but this time, I had very less options. I feel that the demand of a mobile engineer seems to be very less and I am not sure if its only me or for everyone in the same space as I am.
So , are jobs of Native Android Development really dying? My goal is to reach at premium salaries of INR 80-90 lakhs or 1-2 crores per annum, so can I reach there while just being a good android engineer? I am not sure what to run for. Please help
Some paths that i came to conclusion are for me, based on my limited knowledge are :
CONTINUE ON YOUR PATH : Stay in 1 place , grow as an engineer, get your salary/ role increase slowly and you will probably be able to reach that amount in 5-6 years
SWITCH YOUR PATH TO OTHER TECH SKILL : Do web frontend/backend courses in your free time, then grab a job of 4-6 LPA , start as a basic web dev, grow into senior dev and then reach that amount in 5-6 years (coz frontend/backend devs are the real deal?)
SWITCH YOUR PATH TO HIGHER STUDIES : do courses to crack foreign exam papers, then take out all your savings and got to foreign to pursue some masters in management, then do a job there and get settled / come back to India and grab a better paying job as a manager, then grow/switch into lead managerial roles and earn the goal amount in 5-6 years (coz foreign studies are the real deal/ foreign countries give fair wages to skill?)
GET INTO BUSINESS : start a business of something , grow it, reach that amount in 5-6 years (coz doing business is the real deal and only way to get lots of money in black/white)
Which do you think is the most accurate/realistic?12 -

Today's blocker to solve. Launch game with spec. headset. Notice that once you reach main menu you are unable to navigate. Turns out that this specific headset is treated as a controller on some consoles and generates data on "buttons pressed" when querying OS about controller state... (all other devices that are not controllers can be queried by asking for devices, controllers are supposed to be only for controllers...)
Note from QA: This only occurs on some consoles out of 10 tested systems this happened on 3.
Fun day ahead of me...1 -
Ugh, retrieving specific data fields nested within several arrays and objects in Javascript/Json jacks me up every fucking time!!!
Anyone ever fuck with the MapQuest geolocation/geoqueries api??
I'm trying to retrieve the lat/lng values out of responses generated from submitted address strings, and it's nested about 8 json layers deep.
I feel like I'm overthinking this?
I can access the values in my web console, and can reach them after using the console to assign them to a temp var, but can't get to the values from my actual js code. Only when I run some business logic from the console.
Here's a shitty example of me explaining the tree:
[{...}]
0:
locations: Array(3)
0:
latLng:
lat: <data here>
lng: <data here)1 -

okay so I gave a DSA test for a first round at a very reputable unicorn of this country.
I got the answer, tests etc. upon submitting, it gave me 400 bad request error.

I get an email from postmaster that account is disabled. The recruiter is not accepting connection request on linked in…1 -
I'm starting to reach the edge, the fucking company is refusing to hire more people because of "budget concerns", I am tired of doing all of the heavy lifting. Oh well it was a good run, have an interview on Friday and I'm so burned out I don't even feel like studying....wish me luck...1

Thought I'd give kotlin spring boot a shot. I assumed it would work out of the box like with java. It didn't. Apparently with jdk 17 I chose an incompatible version with the gradle version provided. Downgrade gradle. 'runApplication()' still marked with an error, which I cannot seem to solve. Answers from the internet are no solution.
But I can run the project ... but I cannot reach my dummy address, same with maven ... wtf, which part of rtfm did I miss? Wasn't kotlin supposed to be the better java?3 -
After years of accumulating $700,000 in Bitcoin, I faced a nightmare when I forgot the password to my wallet. Panic set in as my savings felt locked away behind an impenetrable digital barrier. In the following days, I tried everything to regain access. I experimented with every possible password, combed through online forums for recovery tips, and attempted various software solutions. Each failure deepened my frustration and anxiety, making me feel as if my financial future was slipping away for good. One evening, while sharing my struggles in a Telegram group, a friend recommended Cyberpunk Programmers. They recounted their own successful experience with the team, which sparked a glimmer of hope within me. Desperate, I decided to reach out. From the moment I contacted Cyberpunk Programmers, I felt a wave of reassurance. The team was empathetic and patient, clearly explaining the recovery process while setting realistic expectations. Their transparency and expertise were comforting. The recovery journey was challenging, requiring multiple attempts. With each try, my anxiety grew, but the team kept me informed with regular updates and insights, which helped alleviate my worries. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Cyberpunk Programmers successfully regained access to my Bitcoin wallet. The exhilaration of logging back in and seeing my funds was indescribable. I was immensely grateful for the support and expertise that had guided me through this ordeal. Now, I can confidently say that Cyberpunk Prgrammers transformed my situation. Their professionalism and dedication not only helped me recover what I thought was lost forever but also restored my financial future. I will always be thankful for their assistance. There's time crunch already, we need to finish this feature, this stupid fucking feature, quickly.
We design, and then code and obviously because of Murphy's law, our code doesn't work. Why, you ask. Because some shithead was modifying arguments behind the scenes and it took us fuckload of time to reach this conclusion.
Out of frustration, I made this.

It's a tiny library which helps you log every single change done to your object.
But seriously, fuck that shithead who modifies things without a care in the world! -
