I’ve been thinking lately, what is it that devRant devs do?
So after a couple of days of pulling data from devRants API's, filtering through the inconsistent skill set data of about 500 users (seriously guys, the comma is your friend) i’ve found an interesting set of languages being used by everyone.
I've limited this to just languages, as dwelling into frameworks, libraries and everything else just grows exponentially, also ive only included languages with at least 5 users out of the pool.

Being a programmer on a non-tech startup company is not too bad. That means aside from coding:
- You have to check if the office printer works
- You need to figure out why the phone lines aren't ringing
- You have to teach a stupid colleague on how to unzip a file
- When they give you a task, they'll say that it's "not urgent", but, they just "need it by tomorrow"
- You have to be a "mind-reader" because if something goes wrong, they don't know how to describe what's going on. Or probably, they're just too lazy being specific. They'll just say, "Hey, I have a problem.", and you will be like "What problem? Your dog is sick? You shit your pants? You lost your faith in God? Fuck what?"
- You don't have a time to "focus", because everyone interrupts you for just about anything related to "technology". Yeah, because you're the IT guy
- You always have learned and applied the latest practices/stacks, but no one gives a fuck
- You will start to re-think your life and devrants make you feel better9 -

My goal is to find all active users on devRant and
collect analytics based on it.
By analytics I just mean things like:
- Total number of users.
- Number of users with x ++ or more
- Number of rants posted in a certain timeframe
- Number of users active in the last day/month/year

Just to note - the rants in the article are in no particular order, it was too hard to actually order them so it's just random pretty much. I also unfortunately didn't have a full list to go trough, so I'm sure I missed a bunch of great ones. I gathered all of these pretty quickly, but they are still some of my favorites, amongst many others that are not included.

Devrants mobile data usage is so low. Really love don't needing a good connection and don't using to much of my mobile data when using it :)

How did I only find DevRants now? How did it take me this long?
After only one weekend I already see the value of it to me.
How many times would venting to other devs during a stressful day make your day better? A lot.
It seems like this place attracts a lot of different people from a lot of different experience levels, ages, geographic locations, backgrounds, maturity levels and more...
Like any other platform, these differences can make for some difficulties and miss understandings, but overall I have seen a positive and supportive community so far.

Saw lots of regret posts about being in dev field. Then why bother living that way?
Not like engineering, medicine or business management fields, I believe programming needs passion similar to art related careers like acting, music and painting etc. So if you don't have any passion for programming, you won't be successful or satisfy at all.
That doesn't mean it is all good and happy days for every passionate programmers. We sure have ****ed up days (probably more than other fields.) Seriously that's why we have devrants. No? But it doesn't reach to the point of regret to me.
Here our national programming language is probably PHP. The pays are lower than your part-time fast food chain workers. The internet speed is in kbs with 2 digits most of the places. Government doesn't give a crap about IT. No IP copyright laws and so on. I probably would earn more and live better if I were not running this IT business.
But hell yeah I never regret at all.1 -

Don't think anyone's posted anything like this yet but if they have I haven't seen it. Where do you see DevRant in the future? I'd like to see a forum or something, maybe allowing people to showcase work or get support on projects. Anyone got thoughts on DevRants future or community? I like it so far everyone's nice.12

Was browsing stackoverflow and saw how they handle votes in comments, clearly indicating one is to upvote (like other websites), the other to (quite literally) flag said comment for moderation purposes (it even clarifies when you hover it! amazing!).
Quite different to devrants UX. :)
On another note, glad to see the time capsule website still didn't change since years back, people even discovered that not everything is a rant. :^)
Couldn't spot any edgy pre-teens either scrolling a bit.

So there's a proposal for C++ to zero initialize pretty much everything that lands on the stack.
I think this is a good thing, but I also think malloc and the likes should zero out the memory they give you so I'm quite biased.
What's devrants opinion on this?

I just got my first 17in laptop. It's a dell XPS 9700. I wiped it and installed Arch Linux within minutes of unboxing! lol. I just finished and we're at 6 hours from delivery (4 hours of beer drinking and) 2 hours of config later, I'm posting on devrants. Everything but the audio and nvidia graphics worked OOTB. I'm still working on getting nvidia prime working on Wayland. Tips welcome!5

Version 1 of any software is full of bugs. Version 2 fixes all the bugs and is great. Version 3 adds all the things users ask for, but hides all the great stuff in Version 2.
