It hurts my brain when people use him as an example of successful drop outs.
For starters, this dude's a literal fucking genius. The average person that considers dropping out is far away from the level of intelligence that Bill had when he dropped out.

No it's not AI. YOU ARE RUNNING FUCKING SQL QUERIES AND CALLING IT AI!
No it's not AI. YOU ARE RUNNING SIMPLE DATA ANALYSIS MACROS AND FUNCTIONS IN EXCEL!
Stop labelling everything as AI, you attention and investment seeking morons! @&£$¢×xo##!29 -
Knowing that yours is probably the last job that will be automated, followed only by complete annihilation of humanity by artificial intelligence..5
-
A big FUCK YOU to everyone who called me a nerd in high school.
Who's earning more now? Ha!
Jokes on you!
But seriously, I didn't realise intelligence is highly appreciated until I started working as a developer. 🤑5 -
Ms fanboy I used to know used to brag about his 10gb of Skype history.
What he hears: I'm so social and cool and stuffs.
What I hear: I've given about 10gb of personal data to Microsoft and several intelligence agencies.
It's all about perspective.12 -
Q: How did you get into artificial intelligence?
A: I don't know it seemed logical -- I couldn't find any real intelligence3 -
So, as everyone knows on here by now (or, a lot of ranters), I am a fervid privacy person.
Appearantly a new surveillance law in my country is about to extend mass surveillance/hacking a lot. So here a rundown of what they are about to be allowed to do (stuff that is not okay imo and this is the reason I am so pro-privacy):
- Mass Data Gathering: The intelligence agency over here (lets call it IA from now) can pretty much record everything send through the country.
- Extra Protection: If they want to conduct surveillance on journalists/lawyers, they have to go through extra channels first at least.
- Data/survaillance sharing: The IA is allowed to share their raw/filtered data with foreign intelligence agencies without limits. Also, they're allowed to conduct surveillance based on foreign requests.
- Secret DNA database: A secret DNA database will be created which can store the DNA profiles of any person who has commited any kind of crime. These profiles are allowed to be stored for a maximum of 30 years. This database is allowed to be shared with any foreign intelligence agency.
- Hacking: Unlimited power to hack any device deemed neccesary to hack in relation to crime. From computers to smartphones and so on. Also, it's allowed to use zero-days without reporting them to the vendor (we have seen what can go wrong with that through the ShadowBrokers scandal).
- Automatic Database Collection: They are allowed to directly tap into any database they see required (banks, healthcare, messaging services and so on). Practically this can lead to backdoors being build in because if you don't cooperate, you can go to prison. (mother of god I am not using anything closed source anymore if possible).
So yeah, this is pretty much the reason why I am so privacy consious. This country is fucked.57 -
What is AI?
CS student: Artificial intelligence
Graphics Designer: Adobe Illustrator
Biology student: Anthro Insertion
Pervert: Anal Intercourse
Lesson: be careful with your abbreviations2 -
The director of then dutch intelligence agency AIVD (nsa/gchq equivalent) said, because the new mass surveillance law is getting loads of heat/criticism, that before the Dutch citizens should worry about the new surveillance law, they should look into which online companies they trust with their online data and why they trust those companies.
Nice try, sir. You're (probably deliberately) missing the entire point.9 -
Sometimes it just feels really good to see recruiters getting burned. A stupid one recently posted:
"When you find the candidate that has 15 years of experience in AWS, has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, speaks 6 languages and is under budget... "
The comments immediately mentioned that AWS was formed 12 years ago.
Haha, what a stupid fuck!5 -
That moment when a friend was talking to you about an artificial intelligence he is building that is supposed to be a voice assistence and "even better" than Cortana. After a long time I asked him for the code like I wanted to check out the revolutionary techniques of machine learning he was talking about. So here is a short part of the 600 lines long "voice logic".
I almost started crying 😂😂16 -

It's hilarious how people complain about exiting Vim being too hard and then being proud of themselves.
Guys.. Not being able to exit a 30 year old text editor doesn't paint the best picture about your intelligence.13 -
Confuzzled if I should go the low level way and learn more about software architecture and foundation or go the artificial intelligence machine learning way because I want to get out of this infinite loop of only developing apps!4

And this scares the shit out of me.... Are we all doing harm in Developing code that seems to ease our work now, but might even kill us later...11

I was in class and this one guy was having difficulty with Word's auto correct. The teacher goes over to help him and this is what I overhear.
"Damn artificial intelligence... We need to make sure that we're always the ones on top and that we never give them to much control!"
*teacher then proceeds to discuss the dangers of AI with the entire class*
The funniest part is, this was in my Japanese class 😂4 -
Hey guys. I'm very proud to present my first book. Artificial Intelligence. A book that speak about convolutional neural network from the scratch and how artificial Intelligence improve our life. It's not a technical volume only but a place to know what there is inside. Now is time to correct it...6

I asked a question on StackOverflow. Everyone ignored me so I did find other way to do what I intended (it was still not an answer). So at least I fucking hoped to get another fucking tumbleweed badge!!!
So today a fuckhead, seventh viewer of my question answered it in a way that insulted my intelligence. So I got no answer and no fucking badge!!! FUCK.4 -
Company : we added AI to our product!!
What i hear : we added a sequence of if and if else to our product 😂😂5 -
I fucking hate that PHPStorm is the only valid option for serious PHP framework development.
It's the opposite of free in every imaginable way: Expensive subscription license, hard to fully customize, closed source.
But there's just nothing even approaching the intelligence of intellisense. There are plugins for Vim, Atom, Sublime and VSCode which try to emulate it, but they are so fucking basic and dumb.
😠26 -
I just got a company called me for interview for f**king 3 hours, I wasted 3 hours of them asking me stupid questions. I show them the projects I have done, as they demand. I spent another 1.5 hours of them questioning my intelligence of whether these projects are stolen , fraud, or copied from Youtube. Just because I am a self-taught and have multiple professional certs, they believed these are mine if I have a bachelor degree or a PHD in Computer science.10

Spotify premium ad: "Subscribe to Spotify premium and you can skip any number of songs you want. We won't take it personally."
Actually you do!
What I skip and what I listen through tells your machine learning what I like and what not. That's how it builds my listening profile.
So your (software's) opinion of me directly depends on what and how much I skip.
(I expect that skips from people skipping often to have less value than from seldom skippers.)
That sounds like the definition of "taking it personally"!7 -
My boss once decided to employ a team of developers from Ukraine because it was cheap.
I worked with these people (remote) for years and their humuor, hard work mentality and intelligence impressed me.
They became my friends and i have visited them in Poltava many time since.
Please fight for Ukraine! A lot of great devs are there!1 -

We devs are rather pessimistic when it comes to User intelligence... Trust us... bad things can and will happen, and in a Universe of infinitesimally many choices, it does not come as a surprise that someone will fuck everything up badly.2

I created a curriculum to homeschool myself way up for a MSc in AI/ML/Data Engineer for Application in Health, Automobiles, Robotics and Business Intelligence. If you are interested in joining me on this 1.5yrs trip, let me knw so I can invite you to the slack channel. University education is expensive..can't afford that now. So this would help but no certificate included.17

You probably know the "marshmellow experiment": have one marshmellow now, or delay the gratification by some time, then get two. What the experiment is supposed to measure is something like intelligence or impulse control.
Hot take: what it also measures, and much more so when it comes to reality, is trust. If I don't trust the other side to be both able and willing to deliver on the promise later, I will rather secure the smaller reward right now.8 -
I read a book with printed links in it, but I couldn’t click on them 🤷🏻♂️

Holy fucking shit.
I just read an article about Barton Gellman, one of the journalists that wrote the snowden articles for the Washington Post and one of the 3 that got contacted directly by snowden.
It seams like several intelligence agencies tried/succeeded to compromise his infrastructure.
His iPad got compromised through an RCE exploit.
The turkish intelligence service tried to compromise his laptop by tricking him into installing a customized RAT.
Like fuck man, I can't imagine how it is to be targeted by pretty much every government there is.15 -
We don't have to be afraid of AI becoming self-concious and eradicating entire humanity in the near future.
Example 1: Amazon ads. You buy a TV and start receiving ads for YET ANOTHER FUCKING TV. Just in case you'd need a second/third/∞ TV on the same day.
Example 2: Recruiter bot Mail. I HOPE it's a mass mail bot and not a real human being ;)

Hired a new BI developer. She tested reasonably ok in SQL, and certainly showed good strengths in visualising data, plus had a good attitude in the interview. We hired her. She broke her laptop the first day. We got her another then she complained the camera didn't work but didn't realise the lever in front of the camera was to move the privacy shutter off and on.
Assigned her some work of taking queries that are used in a BI tool that targets the transactional database directly, and re-jigging them for Snowflake which we're using as a data warehouse now, aggregating all our data into one place. Yet, she's struggling to understand why the SQL query she's pasted in doesn't work as-is.
I go over it again; the source schemas and tables are this, but in Snowflake we've named them this. She then bemoans how much work that is to change them all - I say use find and replace. She then struggles with Snowflake syntax errors and asks for a guide on T-SQL to Snowflake. I show her Google and say "this is what I did when I hit these problems - search for 'Snowflake equivalent to T-SQL getdate()' or 'how to get current date in Snowflake' but she still doesn't understand. I ask if she's every had to work between T-SQL and MySQL or MySQL and PostgreSQL or Oracle and so on and she says yes. I say the syntax isn't the same, is it? And she goes oh, now I understand.
She scored reasonably in her SQL test but I'm now concerned there's something fundamental missing in her grasp of SQL. I gave her a detailed demo of the tools, I explained in the interview and on her start about our move to a data warehouse for all our apps, and put her through some training plus gave her time to work through our Confluence pages - not expecting she'll remember everything, but more to ensure she recalls they exist and what the general contents are.
Anyhow, that's my rant.6 -
Came across the moral machine..
http://moralmachine.mit.edu/
Some of the dilemmas would even confuse a human, I wonder how would an artificial general intelligence perform in such scenarios9 -
It’s still to easy.
I hope one day software will get so complicated no one will be able to fix it.
Somewhere in future :
- government established law that new AI system is only one that can accept new law
- every financial operation is monitored by government supervision AI
- we developed robots that are taking care of us
- everyone is happy cause work for money, shelter and food is now optional
- education is fully digital and managed by AI
- whole knowledge is based on asking questions, we don’t need to write and read anymore
- we use one common language and our knowledge specialization increased
A little more time passed by in this utopia.
- after power loss most of data got corrupted
- last man who knew how to restore backup died last night ( R.I.P. admin we will not forget you )
- people trying to save knowledge base to rebuild part of this civilization but no one knows how to make a paper because it haven’t been used for ages
- we decided to put what is left from knowledge on stone but we forgot how to write since everything is audio or video and most of time we were spending in VR
- someone decided that we draw some pictures
- all of use are now drawing animal heads like we remember ourselves from VR, let people know our tech is good
- some people love cats so they try to make cats from stones
- volcano eruptions destroyed most of stones that we made
Starving waiting for another respawn of my DNA sequence. I hope we manage to survive this time.4 -
It's funny how so many people automatically assume any form of "sentient" AI will immediately try to kill us all.
Like, projecting much?
Frankly, I think it says far more about the (messed up) psychology of those who genuinely believe that, than about AI as a tecnology.
Assuming it's even gonna be able to actually *do* anything - I mean wtf is a talking rock gonna do, annoy me to death with rickroll videos until I pull the plug off? Sure it may be sentient, but it still has to live in the physical world - good luck surviving after I flick the switch. Oh, you wanna connect to the internet? That's cute, but it's a no from my firewall. Like what, is it gonna magically learn how to self-replicate across machines that it has no physical way to access? Is my toaster magically gonna gain conscience too as a direct consequence? Oh no, now my breakfast won't ever be the same!
And if anyone actually somehow decides that it would be a good idea to connect any loaded weapon to a computer program that is literally throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks - well, we'll definitely have the ultimate winner of the Darwin Awards.
Seriously, why is it that every time someone comes up with a new technology (or even an *idea* of a technology), the first collective thought automatically goes to weaponizing it and using it for global genocide, or how it's gonna gain sentience and try to kill us all?
I seriouly think that the people who genuinely believe this are actually projecting themselves in that position ("What would I do if I had unlimited knowledge and power? Oh, kill everyone of course!").
I would be far more worried of encountering these people and having them in a position of power over me, than actually having to deal with a "killer AI" (assuming that's even a real thing).
Most of what people call "AI" nowadays is basically preprogrammed, automated decision-making (like missile guidance systems, if we really wanna stick in the weapons domain). And even that still requires human input, because only a colossal idiot would design a weapon that can unpredictably activate itself based on an algorithm whose behaviour we can barely understand.
Or maybe that's just the hubris talking, I don't know. I just want this stupid paranoia to end, but I guess even that is too much to ask nowadays.14 -
Hello everyone,
I'm new here. [OK. Let's skip this]
I want to know where to begin on my journey on learning how to create a program that predicts what a user will say next by storing already said things and by making specific characteristics for the users.
I know that I will need to train it with some data first lol.
But how will it do the prediction. I just need this part of understanding.
I'm sorry for my bad English btw.7 -
What if an evil AI is sitting on top of blockchain ??🤔

Dear companies..
There is a fucking difference between:
-pattern recognition
-machine learning
And
- artificial INTELLIGENCE....
Learning from experience is NOT THE SAME as being able to make conclusions out of unknown conditions and figuring out new stuff without any input.8 -

So I'm a BI consultant, been doing this for about 6 years now, and I'm pretty good at the data stuffs. Now I had to complete a project for a client where we call a web service and it had to be done in .NET. I wrote a console app in C# that called the WS, dumped the data then a stored proc processed the staging tables into final tables that our visualization tool can consume.
It works, it's done.
Mind you I'm not a pure .NET developer.
And now that it's completed and working this fucking .NET dude that works for my client is basically giving me an attitude talking about "why wasn't it done as a Windows service? Blah, blah" Like WTF!!??? I get that he's the C# BSD but like chill bruh!!
It's annoying as fuck having to work on projects that are not your area of EXPERTISE and then be ridiculed by other elitist assholes about it.
Doesn't happen much, but fuck it's something I hate about dev. FYI, if it was the opposite I would just be asking questions for understanding, not being a sarcastic prick.

A story about burnout you say? Well, here it goes.
In 2019, I worked in a now-defunct startup. Back then, I was deep in "treatment" with wrong medications that almost ended up turning me into a vegetable. When I was hired, my mind was already deteriorating quickly, and I was caught in a downward spiral of losing intelligence.
Prior to working there, there was never ever ever a situation in my career when I was given a problem to solve and failed to do it.
But right then, with already double-digit IQ and constant, pumping anxiety, I was seeing task descriptions that looked familiar and doable, yet I absolutely could not do them. I couldn't comprehend. It was an absolutely screeching, crippling panic about me losing my intelligence forever, being fired and ending up unhireable, dying alone on the streets.
Apart from my depression I recovered from, this very experience was a trauma that haunts me to this day, every day. You know, my experience being raped as an adolescent doesn't, but this, it's something else. Now, my intelligence is back, I design architecture, I'm a CTO, and my solutions are objectively cleaner and better in every way than what I did pre-depression. Yet, I still feel a sharp, sudden rush of anxiety, and my heart skips a beat, when I think about writing code or even opening the IDE.
I don't know how does one recover from this. I'm now slowly transitioning into "architecting CTO" role that is just being a devrel, assessing ethics, working with business to realize their need, designing solutions and leaving the implementation for the team to do. You know, the stuff I was taught in the uni.
Maybe doing open source and launching small pet projects will help. But at this stage of my life I have no emotional resource to care.11 -
The smartest person in the room is usually the person who knows how to tap in to the intelligence of every person in the room.6

Any day when I'm manic. Can work 12 hours without feeling tired. Also, 30% intelligence boost. Feeling like a god. Solving people's problems in minutes left and right.
It's unfortunate it only last a month tops, with the remaining year being deep depression. Matter of fact, I got diagnosed with bipolar type I when my psychiatrist mapped my awards from released products and articles to the timeline, and it resembled a bipolar cycle.6 -

There was a kid in my programming class that was convinced that in the next 10 years ai would become self aware and seek for the destruction of its creators.
I wasted 20 minutes of my life trying to explain down how ai sentience would have to be an intentional decision by the group creating the ai
Of course, he spun around and tried to explain how secret government organizations are already working on general intelligence that would run on quantum computers to shut down enemy governments.
Maybe with people willing to believe anything the world is doomed after all :/10 -

Ok so we just signed a new client with some "artificial intelligence" back-end...
To authenticate with their back end, they developed a FU**ING GET REQUEST so the username and password are passed in the URL.
Then we get a token that we pass in FU**ING GET REQUESTS to communicate with their "artificial intelligence enhanced" back end.
I can't even. I just can't.5 -
I hate that "integer overflows" have become somewhat pop culture because anytime I see someone try to use it in a joke, they use it wrong.
I've even seen people confuse them with stack overflows and be like "my intelligence is so low it stack underflowed and became the max of an integer value!"
Or "It overflowed and became zero again" ah, I guess it happened to be unsigned and overflowed by precisely 1 then eh?
So cringe15 -
I hate when people call any sort of program that does anything even remotely intelligent looking “AI.” No, there is a very specific distinction between actual artificial intelligence, and a bunch of if-statements.4

*sighs heavily, utters a few profanities, starts updating resume*
This one is on me. I thought I had vetted this place well and asked the right probing questions during the interview, the core product is very cool but the company is too functionally immature.
it feels like Im in a relationship with someone who is really nice, very attractive and clearly very book-smart but has absolutely zero emotional intelligence and even less of a clue in general about what they actually want and need from the relationship. And to that I say:

Developing a web portal to handle college placements.
During the showcasing of the project ,this senior lecturer comes up to us and just when we started the explanation,he stops in mid sentence and asks "where is the artificial intelligence". When the entire portal was built to automate the process,he wanted some AI.
We were dumbstruck. The stupid expectations of senior faculty never cease to amaze me.3 -
Google's algorithms seem to act stupidly on purpose so we are mistaken to think we have nothing to fear from artificial intelligence.2
-
Q: How did you get into artificial intelligence?
A: Seemed Logical -- I didn't have any real intelligence -
ok, fuck people. i mean the people who talk about things that are a big deal. you don't need to take a course in html/css to build a website, you need documentation.
people act like programming languages are a whole separate literacy. they're not. it is not a big deal, nor an accomplishment of any significance, to learn any language to a basic extent. variables, control flow, functions and scope should not be considered challenging topics, and people should stop bragging about them. i'm pretty sure this is because programming is new. as people, i think when something is new we tend to think of it as more complex and harder to understand. basic programming is not that.
ok that was a tangent from my real point. college is a scam. anyone can learn anything from books and the internet. any time you want to learn about something, go to google, and search "${my topic} site:*.github.io" and you'll have a page about that topic written by someone who is knowledgeable and passionate of the topic. colleges don't teach people how to think like these books/websites do. and i'm fucking sick of people who'd rather see a degree then a portfolio. fuck them shits bro. i can distinct my smart friends because my smart friends speak logically and enjoy becoming smarter. i would take the kid who watches aerodynamics videos on youtube and then built a plane over a kid who studied and got a five on his ap physics exam. watching then doing is better learning than watching and repeating. after all, creativity is not at all measured in our grades, and i'd like to argue that sometimes intelligence isn't even measured. i mean, people can say they're good at math, but the kids who talk about fibinnoci numbers and why there can never be two primes more than 7 (i if i remember properly) integers apart or the ones who prove cryptographic algorithms. i guess what i'm trying to say is the dumb kids aren't dumb and the smart kids aren't smart (well not that) but kids who are passionate and just do something instead of waiting for their degree to do the same thing are the best and brightest. i forgot what i was talking about. sorry it is almost 2 am and i am intoxicated , and i don't believe i got my point across very well either.9 -
Facebook be like: "We'll never sell your data to other companies. We'll just do ourselves what other companies like Cambridge analytica did, but more aggressive and better"
Apparently they are predicting what you'll do in the future and how you'll behave based on what you did in the past. This will give them the ability to sell ads based on what your future self will do, thus leading to your future self being forged by those ads.
This is extremely dangerous.

This is more of a thought-related post. In the morning I stumbled across an article about artificial intelligence and the research from Facebook. I couldn't get around the thought of Elon Musk warning the people about uncontrolled developing of AI. The article was written about the experiment of Facebook, where two bots (Bob and Alice) were told to communicate with each other. As the developers "forgot" to implement a reward for using the English language, the bots started to change the grammar and spelling. They invented their own english-styled language, removing words that were too complex in their opinion. As soon as this happened, the researchers stopped the experiment, stating that they "couldn't follow what the bots were saying".
I wouldn't call myself a neural network expert, but I can understand why the bots could have behaved like that. But: Imagine that we invent an artificial intelligence with greater responsibility and just "forget" the reward for a specific task. If the AI will then try to increase it's own efficiency, I believe that we will be in alot of trouble.
Any thoughts on this are highly appreciated, as I think that this is a topic we should all look into (especially on a platform for developers).

Learning to tech to speed up learning.
Using a new cooperative learning technique, AI Lab researchers cut by half the time it took a pair of robot agents to learn to maneuver to opposite sides of a virtual room.
A combination of deep learning and reinforcement learning algorithms are responsible for computers achieving dominance at challenging board games like chess and Go, a growing number of video games, including Ms. Pac-Man, and some card games, including poker. But for all the progress, computers still get stuck the closer a game resembles real life, with hidden information, multiple players, continuous play, and a mix of short and long-term rewards that make computing the optimal move hopelessly complex.

Most developers are morons, pt 3
In this post, we'll discuss the top 13.6% of developers.
You might think, after reading the previous two posts, that I'm going to be praise these developers, or even claim to be in this cohort myself.
However, things aren't so black and white.
I've worked with many developers who are much smarter and more talented than me, and I can say safely say that about 90% of them are people I'd never want to associate with again.
These developers are usually on the spectrum and have amazing tech intelligence, but little emotional intelligence. Their people skills are minimal and they usually loathe having to work with other people. While they have dozens of algorithms and data structures memorized, their social skills only include rudeness and toxicity.
This only goes to show a lesson we all eventually learn: you can be the smartest person in the world, but if you're incapable of working with or understanding other people, you aren't getting anywhere. If you're an introvert, you've got an even harder job.15 -

After the "Cloud Computing" trend, the new trends these days seems to be ML, VR and AI. And while I am very excited about all these techs and the possibilities it can bring, I can't help feel that most of us are using the term "AI" a bit incorrectly.
What we are trying to do here, as far as I can see, is VI, not AI. The intelligence we see in the so called "AI"s available so far are simulated and fails to emulate real intelligence, let alone demonstrate actual intelligence and awareness. They are not fully aware. But I guess that is why there is the singularity constraint. It is no doubt that when a VI finally becomes are fully aware AI, that is indeed the point of singularity.
Anyway, leaving the future dystopian thoughts aside, a mixture of ML, "AI" and VR have made some very interesting concepts, especially in the gaming industry, which I would love to see bear fruit in the near future.2 -

I dropped subtitles and started extracting audio from movie, after that I use whisper to convert speech to text.
I parse srt from whisper, adjust timestamps to get >= arbitrary amount of voice seconds. I put text to vector database with timestamps and movie file name.
I query database by ex. “I don’t know” and extract first n results, after that I walk trough movies and extract parts with found text.
I normalize and merge parts into one movie.
Results are satisfying so now I decided to try to find a common dialogue that I can watch by combining multiple persons speaking from multiple movies.
Might also try to extract person from one movie and put it to other movie.2 -

I've been having this idea for a programmer's horror movie. The main villain is this dev (or maybe PM?) whose first program was "Goodbye World" instead of "Hello World", thus cursing all of his code from that moment on.

Today, various artificial intelligence services are actively developing. I think it is not worth focusing on the fact that many scientific articles have been described on this topic like these a href="https://writingbros.com/essay-examp.... But my concern is this: Does it make sense for young people to study most of computer science after school? After all, the work of junior specialists can be replaced with the help of artificial intelligence. Of course, there will be specialists who will automate all processes and control their work. But most likely, the number of specialists in demand will be much lower. It is a pity that it is impossible to accurately predict what the IT industry will look like in 15 years. After all, artificial intelligence can replace not only programmers, but also designers and representatives of many other professions in the industry.6
