Two days ago I had a particularly retarded conversation with my father.
Father: Have you heard of [insert some language that will probably die in half a year]?
Me: Never heard of it.
Father: I talked with a friend yesterday and he said people pay millions for it.
Father: You have to learn it.
Me: *At this point trying not to facepalm* I don't think that's a good idea.
Me: *begins explaining how the industry changes quickly, underused languages die out or how there simply aren't many materials on them*
My father then started shouting at me, saying that I don't listen to him and that his friend (who does stock trading for living) knows what's trending right now. Couple that with the fact that I was sick in bed when this random event happened, it led to me wanting to, ever so slightly, fucking kill myself.5
Hey everyone! We just found a post about devRant on Hacker News that is trending! It would help us out a lot if you could vote on it, thanks! https://news.ycombinator.com/item/...8
This is how y'all look when you bitch about programming languages in which your experience with it does not go beyond trivial hello world shit.4
*logs out of Google on Android*
*has this persistent Google search bar on launcher which I keep on accidentally tapping*
Alright, so I'm not logged into Google to see how it goes. Kind of an experiment to see just how intertwined Android and my life are with Google. And it's going quite well actually, except for my prime apps that I can't seem to get around.
"We protect your data by keeping it secure!"
Hmm, yeah.. you and 3 letter agencies are keeping it secure and out of the hands of other individuals.. that makes sense.
Don't be evil.. unless you're the devil, right?
Fuck you, I won't login like this.
*accidentally opens Google*
*le trending results show up*
- KSI vs Logan Paul weigh-in!
- KSI vs Logan Paul Manchester!
- KSI vs Logan Paul arena fight!
*opens up NewPipe in which I am not logged in either*
- KSI vs Logan Paul!!!
- Did you see the KSI vs Logan Paul stuff yet?!
*logs back into Google straight away*
Personalized search engine.. many hate it, but boy do I fucking love it.4
Not really a rant but I'm just happy so I must share it.
Two days ago I uploaded a new project on github and today when I woke up I saw it on github trending! Only the C# section though, but still.
Feels weird as I'm usually not upload anything and the ones I have usually sit around 5-20 stars forever.3
When i successfully install Arch on my system.
Translation : sometimes i think i am god
Trending in India now.8
Law's passed in France making it illegal for your boss to send you mails after work hours! So many devs there can now be in peace! If only this was implemented everywhere :/
My colleague was hesitant to write a rant because he wasn't confident with his English. Made him write one and I proofread, now it's trending towards a duck. 😇😇3
“I Pay $900 A Month for student loans.”
Not sure why there’s a video about this but let’s watch it...
*Sad music is playing*
“My name is _____ and I pay $900 a month for student loans..”
Yeah so what?
*Sad music continues*
*Woman makes a call and asks about when they’re going to make a student loan reform aggressively*
Then I realized my family was eligible for low income and I received Cal and Pell grants to pay for my tuition and living.
Then I realized that the salary for my computer science degree has numbed me to a point where $900 a month doesn’t seem too bad. Or awful. I mean I just leased a new car for my mom! And didn’t hesitate (only when having fun negotiating though).
Back then, I would be shocked. But it’s a surreal feeling to see now that I don’t. I was literally confused at the basis of this video. And now I’m surprised at my disconnect from it.
I also realized that they make videos based on how society should react to it. Am I an outcast to society because of this? Why am I not reacting the same way?
Maybe society (nowadays) would disdain me because I’ve come into high income like we all will because of our passion (and the demand for it).
But fuck society. It’s full of the very same people who use technology each and every day. Protesting for things they found trending on Twitter. The ones who refused to learn even though it’s a huge part of their lives. They’re the ones holding us back for an Engel’s Technological Utopia (idk if I’m even correct about the philosopher but anyways..)
We’re above them. We make things they’ll use and in massive numbers.
Don’t let them dictate what you should like. How you should act. Whether or not you should feel lonely while they’re posting pictures of fun times on Facebook.
We should be the ones doing that. Because we are the ones doing that.
That’s why we’re given the best to perform what we love most.
So devs, continue what you’re doing. Small or big, you’re still driving the world forward. Opening pull requests and contributing to open source projects. Answering questions on Stack Overflow not only for the person intended but for the beginner or even experienced professional who may stumble upon it later in a Google search.
And be highly rewarded for it. How society feels doesn’t matter any more when it comes to your passion. You’re important. Your work helps others in ways you can’t even imagine. We’re like one big fucking hivemind of engineers with the accessibility of the internet.
I love drinking on a Sunday!12
Installed an app called Top Github.
Selected "Java" category in it.
@dfox, I heard another DevRant meetup was coming. I just made this up right now but it's trending on Twitter... which I also made up.
So... maybe in the Pittsburgh area?6
I know it's not trending anymore but talking about poor products - the Pokemon GO app! I mean, that shit is the Windows Vista of apps. Never before have I seen a product that crashes on the simplest gui tasks.
And after a month they finally roll an update which consists of.. "Minor text fixes"! $#%!2
That moment when your project is trending on HackerNews.
Your positive response was a big push, which finally made me post it on hn. Thank you so much, love you all!😃3
Why the fuck are Indian software companies under the impression that interns are just junior developers that you are legally allowed to fuck over with shit/no pay. Internships are supposed to be about learning and growth. Every fucking company I apply for has some bullshit bi polar disorder because their requirements state one thing and they ask you other bullshit on the phone or at the interview.
How the fuck do you expect a college student to know React, Django, AWS, Angular, D3, Scala, iOS and whatever buzzword you assholes noticed were trending on quora?
And for fucks sake don't waste my time to call me and ask if I'd be available full time if I mentioned I can only intern part time.
WTF is wrong with these people.6
When I started learning PHP. I used various warez sites to get PHP scripts to get familiar with how 'things' are built and it really helped me develop into a better dev.
Now I sell PHP scripts on envato and my very item's trending on a warez site somewhere.10
Github's top trending repo today is a deep learning tool that decensores hentai.4
Not entirely sure if should be said an IT company but yes I would mention SHAREit.
The well known file sharing software, I remember using it most of the times for file sharing between my Android devices, it previously was only meant for "File Sharing" but now they're just more into ads, video recommendations, news etc etc "useless stuffs".
I mean who the hell in this world would like to open a file sharing app for trending WhatsApp video recommendations? Getting notifications in a language unknown to me? Who has even asked you all for this.
I know ads gives you profit but atleast not the trending movies and all for a file sharing app.
It was good overall in the start but now not they're not working in a way they used to.
PS: image below is a SHAREit notification for someone doing black magic on a kid. See, stupid stuff! not even a news to be read just fake stuff. Atleast show some serious ads or else just rollback to your previous version.7
I installed my first Windows servers in AWS today. And now #awsdown is trending on Twitter. I finally managed to break the internet 😳1
So recently my open source project took off and got trending on GitHub (680 starts and 225 forks). This was the first time a project of mine really gained some traction and invested more of my time and weekends to maintain this project - I wrote comprehensive docs, contributing guidelines and reviewed PRs and made sure I commented on every single one of them. Sure, it isn't easy to review 50 PRs a day after coming home from work but the excitement of seeing this project becoming trending fueled me.
First 2 weeks it was good. I would come home from work and have dinner and sit down to maintain the project. Whenever contributors would be stuck, I would help them and write comments on each PR.
But the problem started since last week. People just really want to see their contribution activity graph get populated and hence they would make stupid PRs and literally no one followed contributing guidelines - I mentioned in that that the code should adhere to Pep8 styling but no one gave a shit. Each day I would spend reviewing PR with crappy formatted code and no sign of Pep8, and even some will just file PR and add a fucking docstring to every function or add paragraph of comments. Also, the PR quality was bad with unsquashed commits amounting to 10 or 20 or even sometimes 50.
I wrote the contributing guidelines doc and in that I mentioned every source that contributors could find helpful like how to squash commits, how to file a PR and Pep8 and not to write useless comments. Seriously people, grow up!6
I received 2 job offers:
1: c++ / c# / unity developer for a VR studio, tons of vr visors and shit to use
2: python / Java/somethingelse developer for machine learning, iot, big data
Offer n1 is from a small business 35 employees - casual outfit
Offer n2 is from medium/big business with 100-200 employees - suit and tie for all.
Same economic offer, 2 different and divergent paths on different but trending topics.
What do you choose and why18
Can someone explain me AI/ML/DL in traditional algorithmic way without AI jargons?
What I currently understand is that they convert the training data to numbers based on a complex black boxed mathematical algorithm and then when a new data comes in, the same conversion is done and a decision is taken based on where the the new number fits in within the geometry/graph plot of the old numbers from training. The numbers are then updated. Is this what they call AI? Nearest number/decision search?
Kindly try to avoid critic, I am having a difficult time understanding the already trending AI stuff. People say that the algo exists from long back but only now we have the compute power.22
Cheap computer, Broken AC, Fresh coat of off-white/grey paint, Torn chair with ciggy burns in it, non-adjustable cubicle desk that is wayyyy too high, people from unrelated departments popping by every 15mins to give me an update I didn’t ask for on their inconsequential lives or their opinion on whatever the fuck is the biggest trending hashtag right now.
May I never go back into the office again.
Very high number of quality rants lately. Trending up fast in my opinion. Even today - Saturday which used to be a lighter day.
Becoming a nice challenge to read them all. Way to go. Keep on ranting! What do you think about the rant volume and quality?2
bought one of most trending things domain name.
daily 1m+ hit every day for that keyword.
what is next ?4
Many people / engineers around me talk about trendy stuff like Cybersecurity or AI and show off what great encryption and neuronal networks they 'have built' ( I would rather say 'using').
I kinda get the feeling of 'Everbody talks about it - no one really knows what's goin' on inside (especially those guys who hate math and even algorithms).'
Am I just stupid or does somebody else here feel the same way? I mean people have been doing serious research about this stuff for years. And currently many kids are coming up with it as if it is easy stuff like the bubble sort.4
>80 apps removed from Google Play for being adware but they were trending
Welp... let's get hunting, they'll look nice in my malware collection!3
Just another day , playing fortnite again . Got my wife frustrated over the past few days , once more today she pulled the plug while i was playing on my PC
I can't take it anymore guys , its so hard to get rid of it .
I mean the wife , yeah. Thank god for divorce . Just filed for divorce ! Yep , I didn't think it would be this hard but I found the one for meself and I'm not going to let her go .
Fortnite I mean.
Jus kiddin, But really what the hell is with all this fortnite divorce stuff..
You don't talk about addictions like weed , or alcohol that make people widow their wives or even kill them but somehow this is trending now and the game is the reason!
Fuck you world , for giving birth to humans. This feels like the fucking stone age damn it . Senseless fuckers spreading news like this undermining all the real fuckery going on.
A world where fortnite causing divorce is news and where drug addictions and related murders and deaths are too mainstream is just stupid.7
Me : "Wow, the Windscribe VPN is free for a whole year, and I can download up to 50gb of data per month!"
Me : *subscribe, install and launch the thingy, then proceed to start a 38 gb torrent*
Also me, literally 35s later: "... but why does the trending page of YouTube is full of american videos? Where did the french content go?"
I swear, one day I'll stop being this stupid.8
News sites with infinite-scrolling are so damn annoying.
A new random article I am not interested in suddenly loads under the current news article when skimming through it by dragging the scroll bar, and then throws me far down into unknown territory due to the sudden change of the height of the page.
It also happens similarly on Imgur photo galleries: when I drag down the scroll bar to quickly seek through the images, the "explore posts" section suddenly loads hundreds of "trending" and "viral" (uninteresting junk and spam) photos under the gallery, and since this adds lots of height to the page, I get pulled right into it and my window is full of such posts. Both distracting and memory-consuming.
YouTube's infinite scrolling comments and video lists are acceptable as of writing, since they are on-topic, and no off-topic "trending" spam, and they do not load too much at once, which does not throw me down too far.
Quote from https://elite-strategies.com/infini... :
> The footer of a website is like the shoes of a person, it ties the whole outfit (or website) together. Footers are awesome because it gives you a chance to tell people where to go when they reach the bottom of the page.1
So, maybe 6 hours ago or so, I was randomly browsing Github and stuff, came across https://git.io/vABiT in the Trending page. "Hell yeah, I'd go for some swag".
Started looking through them all, eventually found myself here on devRant. Instantly fell in love, it's the perfect mix of jokes, puns, and rants. Now it's 5 AM and I've got work at 10... Worth it, for sure!
Anyways, hello guys, glad to have found this place, really loving the feel of it all.3
Go to GitHub. Check trending repos or your favourite repos and go through others code.
For me it's worked most of the times. 🙌
(Reposted cause I forgot the link haha xd)
Reddits /r/webdev is such a shithole. It is filled with bad practice and buzzword sharks most of them have 0 knowledge and trending topics are nearly always wrong or the most generic bullshit someone found on medium.
Fuck reddit, im happy i deleted my account there.6
Very soon I am going to do the following things,
- leave the working and high paying world
- build another startup from scratch
- jump into a very new and controversial industry
- fight against extreme misinformation and prejudice in the above industry
- build some amazing technology that I hope will actually help people
- finally, publicly be my real and genuine self
I am both very frightened and very excited.
Trending more and more toward excited every day.
Can you relate to that? Then let’s chat on the comments!8
Existing algos are messed up. The one that personalizes ur feed. FUCKKK.
My YT, Tiktok, IG, Reddit feed are mostly about suicide stories… I just interacted with some posts about anxiety and it led to this. Idk if it’s just me or is this really a trending thing? Coz it’s suicide awareness month??? But dude? That “awareness” might trigger someone contemplating it, like it taps into their confirmation bias.4
I'd like to ask: What's trending at the moment instead....
Either I'm old and senile and missing something, or there is not really sth new.
Okay, JS might be crapping out new frameworks in their common "Not invented here" diarrhea....
But otherwise? What's really new?
I don't really know. I'm not only thinking about languages and stuff, but even in hardware there ain't really a big thing going on in my opinion.
Hab ich wat verpennt?
(Have I overslept?)
We had an interesting and frightening discussion regarding NGINX, as it is russian software today and that a new trend of a true, actively developed webserver is severely lacking... Apache looks semi dead and most other niche webservers, too.
That's all I've seen as a "trend" discussion in the latest time4
Every time I see #MOTD trending on Twitter I hope it's people talking about an interesting Message Of The Day that they have seen. Instead, it's just football ("Match Of The Day").2
As soon as you are done, add fullstack to your bio.
So many newbies following this path. Coding up alot of examples with no real depth in any particular language.6
I hate it because it is not properly visible from back and also why in this world you would do that...😒😒7
It bothers me that tablet/computer disassembly videos are trending toward being labelled "take-apart guides" instead of "disassembly guides"6
That feeling when your library is trending on github. Check it out guys 😁😄
1. Desktops or Laptops?
2. Windows or Linux?
3. Coke or Pepsi?
4. Instant coffee or regular coffee?
5. Light theme or dark theme?
6. Tabs or spaces?
Let's the hell begin! 😈30
Apps are getting saturated now, i dont think if app development has a future anymore.
No matter what you make its quiet difficult to beat the top 10 trending apps.12
Had my first day as a Software Engineer in one of the most trending software companies. Absolutely crazy how organized a company can be. There are so many talented software engineers I‘m a little bit afraid of the expectations they‘re having. Wish me luck, I‘m just a little software dev who graduated 3 months ago :(4
Spent my sunday coding AMZ Hot Searches, a visualizer for trending Amazon search queries, inspired by Google Hot Searches. Will host it on a server soon. Feels good :)1
My teacher joked in class about trying to get #octothorpe trending. Two days later he's wearing a t-shirt that says it, turns out someone already thought of it and it's on a t-shirt on Amazon with prime shipping lol 2018 is crazy
I've been programming for 5 years now and every single day I find stuff I have to learn like trending frameworks or git stuff. Otherwise I'm considered nothing.
Maybe the twitter developers getting laid off should join spotify in their quest for a simple shuffle algorithm that they failed to develop or maybe just are not allowed to ship due to corrupt company politics?
As Spotify's algorithm sucks from a listener's perspective (major music industry might like it though), I have to rely 100% on curated playlists, and without shuffle, I have to listen in the exact order that they were made. Why not? We did the same when we put actual records on a record player. Who needs shuffle? Who needs streaming anyway? I'm gonna get a pair of turntables or just listen to MP3 files again!
There is a "new idea" thread in the spotify community forum started in 2020 (following up on an earlier 2012 suggestion), a feature request for the "option to have a true shuffle" that already has 70+ pages, tagged as trending in 2021 with the friendly stalling message:
As this idea has gathered a fair amount of votes, we've discussed it with the relevant team once again. We actually want to take a closer look at what you're experiencing and get some of you in touch with our devs.
Good luck everyone. If I still use Spotify in 2023, I can probably repost the very same status again one year later when the app will still lack a simple shuffle option, no?
In the mid-2010s, we barely had any apps in our native language and popular coupon and review sites were lackluster in our neck of the woods.
So me and some old uni colleagues got together to make a WhatsApp based "wtf is going on right now and right around here"
think Groupon meets yelp meets Google maps meet trending topics. The idea was that local business would post deals and events and people would comment on it giving stars on real time, with geolocation. So you could see what was going on right next to you, and business owners only needed WhatsApp installed to post new topics.
We... failed to go viral. That simple. Things get frustrating when infinite no-questions-asked venture capital is not available.
Then me and the other founders got very lucrative jobs in former British colonies and that was it.
This idea might still work nowadays, but it would be reeeealy hard to navigate around Whatsapp's terms of service.
Good luck to anyone who might want to try.4
Why are there so many "curated list of X" on Github? I really liked browsing the trending page because I found several gems of OSS in it. But nowadays it seems chinese course materials, "curated lists" and so-called "H4Xx0r-Res0urces" share the space on the trending page. Has Facebook arrived on Github?2
Startup: Kids buying cheap domain names worth $1 from their pocket money and explain Who they are, and What they do!1
I feel like the pendulum on js frameworks may be trending towards simplicity. I see lots of devs complaining about complicated frameworks. Maybe it will trend to less js loaded solutions and maybe a return to simpler pages.
I dunno, one can hope right?
I don't do web development, but I see a lot of people that do and they all sounds like chain smokers and alcoholics. Something has to give.5
Honestly I think you'll run out of new focus questions.
I'd be ok with seeing something different like current trending tags.
Well this would be the first post of myself in the past two years of dev life.
Hi fellas, I wanted to be a serious pro programmer. Even though I was working in a large scale enterprise product, I often feel like missing some awe(want to settle a job in Google) in my dev life. I managed to grasp and play profoundly in some trending and hot techies like Angular, React, Electron, Laravel, Symfony, Extjs, Spring....I still feel unlucky. :(1
Randomly generated CSS class names make customization of sites much more difficult.
Randomized gibberish CSS class names like "r-acJ79b" are used by some sites like the new Reddit and the new Twitter web apps, which makes it impossible to customize the appearance of the site and to hide "trending" spam. The only way hide annoying and spammy page elements is through user scripts which scan the page for it every second and then hide it. But until then, it appears on screen for a short period.
I once thought this is caused by react JS, but the react JS front end of the video platform "Odysee" does not have randomized CSS class names.10
Windows Update Hate has really become a full fledged trend on devRant. Is this the first mass trend here?
I saw this headline today: "Trending Technology - Google's new AI tool could help decode the mysterious algorithms that decide everything"
Basically, an AI tool to decode how other AI algorithms work...
Congratulations humanity... you done well.2
Today I read a blog about React Native, and I was amazed to see that Facebook, Instagram, Airbnb uses this.
Is it already a thing now, thinking of giving it a try
There is so much confusion out there for a mobile developer what platform to choose, btw m developing native android apps from past 3 years.
What are your thoughts on it?6
Since this has been trending recently, here's my six word horror story -
"I accidentally deleted the production database"2
Flames don't hurt as they used to
After once hearts went colder than the breath we take in
No matter how the lightning briskly strikes
We don't feel nothing since we already have a voice inside of us which never sleeps
Or take a rest, there are memories
Flames don't hurt as they used to
But they will never go away too
When our hearts want only some one
You don't get to choose
That's why when we love
We need to pay, Faith
How many of you have formalized knowledge in computer science theory? Do you find yourself using that knowledge in your daily engineering life? For example, knowing random search algorithms, or obscure data structures. I ask this because of the modern "technical interview" trending towards discrete math instead of actual programming ability. Instead of coding projects I care about or reading research papers, I'm just doing discrete math problems to prep for recruiting. While it's not the worst thing to do I just wish there was a more direct way of interviewing a person's engineering abilities.1
I want to learn new programming language.
Can anyone suggest what is interesting and trending lang.18
I hate unit test. I hate testing by code.
I hate the idea to write code that tests code. And that u must update both when u add a feature. Like wtf.
Good debug mode with clear verbose and precise reporting tool and voila.
Drives me nuts thus trending shit.10
I've fallen asleep while trying to finish this series so many times that I must've changed the "Trending now" Netflix's listing for the whole country.
I wonder why do I always wake up right when the last episode ends, though...
So I'm finishing my last career class, it's called Web Design. I was really enthusiastic about it, because I've been doing that for almost 5 years. Then the professor wanted us to do a work comparing HTML 4 with 5, ok, that's history, I like history. Then he wanted us to do "Your first website", aahaaam, using just plain HTML and sending the content via .zip. Ouch!
Then I asked if I could do a SPA in React. He doesn't even know what is that. He thought it was an IDE.
I don't feel disappointed, I don't feel angry, I just want to hug him and tell him to study Web Design.
How can a professor in 2019 not know about the trending technologies it's been used to do web design?
Now I don't know what to do. I don't want to do a horrible plain HTML website, and I don't even want to do a "complex" thing for him and then have a 0.7
Nowadays every client wants to do something innovative with AI. It was same with crypto 4-5 years ago. I did lots of crypto projects during the time. Seems like AI gonna trending for few years.7
Guys. Seriously. Get a grip. I get it. The new laws are not perfect. Some will even say that they suck. But you cannot tell me that the current laws were okay and covered all bases on copyright. Getting it under control is a process and it will require us as citizens to make meaningful choices with our votes. But simply repealing the law outright is not necessarily the best choice. We need to get a good idea on what is right and just, what is legitimate and then criticize the law. Being against it because it's a trending topic is not cool. It's moronic. E.g. Wikipedia won't die over this. Public content won't die over this. Some content will be more restricted because the copyright owner wants it to be. The implementation will be difficult but this does not mea that it will hurt liberties of the citizen. If anything quite the opposite. It's kind of amusing seeing people call privacy i to this. Privacy laws are unchanged. I'm all in favor of activism (and hacktivism) but let's do it right.19
If you are into engineering because you wanted to become one then never settle for a body shop organization even if they lure you with higher CTC and the supposed trending technologies you shall be working on.
YOU ARE A FOOL, BY USING VISUAL STUDIO CODE!!!
Hating Microsoft is not about how bad is this or that feature because they failed in making it responsive, neither should it be blessed for its new outstanding opensource projects.
Microsoft is a marketing company, they don't have new ideas, breakthrough projects, inventions... no, they just copy the market and make/buy their own replicate of the trending services.
THAT IS SLOWING THE PROGRESS OF SCIENCE AND HUMAN IMPROVEMENT ITSELF.
Microsoft is just using the cold comfort of today instead of making a change but is also destroying the bright, enthusiastic, but poor brains of the modern society.
You are fool by using Visual Code, you are a manipulated sheep, a slut which innevitable follows the propaganda of the enemy of progress.
I an not going to stand here and support my enemy, I delete Visual Code.35
I'm trying to find a reliable way to learn about what technologies are popular/trending, and where the tech industry is headed generally.
Is there a site that any of you frequent to get the latest news in tech?1
Everywhere now there is a work from hype, so I wrote one article on my blog. Hope everyone can read and relate , to same. Shiver being working at home .
Will write one more article with pros and cons specific to company/employee.
What i have observed is that these days shearling leather jackets are trending in women winter fashion. For me its a life saver, it keeps me warm which is important and it is trendy which is way more important. LOL
i've recently purchased a sheepskin leather jacket from a website mauvetree. com , it is just piece of art, believe me!. after that my husband also ordered his shearling as well. they have a great collection of jackets. do have a look! here is my jacket <3 <31
