Today we have an exciting devRant announcement! As many observant members of the community have problably noticed, since launch we've been using the domain name devrant.io since the .com was already taken. Today, we're happy to announce, we now own devrant.com and it is now the official devRant URL!
How did this happen you ask? The devrant.com domain was already owned by a developer named Wiard when we launched devRant. It took a while to track him down, but when we did, turned out he saw the good we were doing and wanted to help the devRant community by generously offering us the .com domain for a very reasonable exchange (considering that we are a self-funded bootstrapped startup!).
Since Wiard recently started writing a blog on devrant.com, he had to find a new home for it. His new blog is https://sysrant.com and I encourage everyone to check it out! Great topical/educational dev/sys-admin related articles? Check. Someone who cares about the devRant community and allowed us to leave the firey hell that is .io? Check. So check it out!!
Some technical info:
This change is immediate and all devrant.io non-api requests will now redirect to devrant.com. We might have missed a few things (purposely or accidentely) so we're going to be going through and converting anything that's left. If you use the devRant API, your implementation should not break since API requests are meant to be excluded for now, but I highly recommend switching any API URLs to https://devrant.com so you can avoid issues in the future if we decide to stop redirecting devrant.io API requests. Also one note, there was an issue for about a minute after we turned on the redirected where some API requests to devrant.io might have 301 redirected to devrant.com. If an app you were using broke, try clearing whatever cache the 301 redirect might be stored in and the issue should go away.
Feel free to post any questions you might have here (and please let me know about any issues you might discover!), and once again, huge thanks to Wiard!

Hey everyone,
First off, a Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates, happy holidays to everyone, and happy almost-new-year!
Tim and I are very happy with the year devRant has had, and thinking back, there are a lot of 2017 highlights to recap. Here are just a few of the ones that come to mind (this list is not exhaustive and I'm definitley forgetting stuff!):
- We introduced the devRant supporter program (devRant++)! (https://devrant.com/rants/638594/...). Thank you so much to everyone who has embraced devRant++! This program has helped us significantly and it's made it possible for us to mantain our current infrustructure and not have to cut down on servers/sacrifice app performance and stability.
- We added avatar pets (https://devrant.com/rants/455860/...)
- We finally got the domain devrant.com thanks to @wiardvanrij (https://devrant.com/rants/938509/...)
- The first international devRant meetup (Dutch) with organized by @linuxxx and was a huge success (https://devrant.com/rants/937319/... + https://devrant.com/rants/935713/...)
- We reached 50,000 downloads on Android (https://devrant.com/rants/728421/...)
- We introduced notif tabs (https://devrant.com/rants/1037456/...), which make it easy to filter your in-app notifications by type
- @AlexDeLarge became the first devRant user to hit 50,000++ (https://devrant.com/rants/885432/...), and @linuxxx became the first to hit 75,000++
- We made an April Fools joke that got a lot of people mad at us and hopefully got some laughs too (https://devrant.com/rants/506740/...)
- We launched devDucks!! (https://devducks.com)
- We got rid of the drawer menu in our mobile apps and switched to a tab layout
- We added the ability to subscribe to any user's rants (https://devrant.com/rants/538170/...)
- Introduced the post type selector (https://devrant.com/rants/850978/...) (which will be used for filtering - more details below)
- Started a bug/feature tracker GitHub repo (https://github.com/devRant/devRant)
- We did our first ever live stream (https://youtube.com/watch/...)
- Added an awesome all-black theme (devRant++) (https://devrant.com/rants/850978/...)
- We created an "active discussions" screen within the app so you can easily find rants with booming discussions!
- Thanks to the suggestion of many community members, we added "scroll to bottom" functionality to rants with long comment threads to make those rants more usable
- We improved our app stability and set our personal record for uptime, and we also cut request times in half with some database cluster upgrades
- Awesome new community projects: https://devrant.com/projects (more will be added to the list soon, sorry for the delay!)
- A new landing page for web (https://devrant.com), that was the first phase of our web overhaul coming soon (see below)
Even after all of this stuff, Tim and I both know there is a ton of work to do going forward and we want to continue to make devRant as good as it can be. We rely on your feedback to make that happen and we encourage everyone to keep submitting and discussing ideas in the bug/feature tracker (https://github.com/devRant/devRant).
We only have a little bit of the roadmap right now, but here's some things 2018 will bring:
- A brand new devRant web app: we've heard the feedback loud and clear. This is our top priority right now, and we're happy to say the completely redesigned/overhauled devRant web experience is almost done and will be released in early 2018. We think everyone will really like it.
- Functionality to filter rants by type: this feature was always planned since we introduced notif types, and it will soon be implemented. The notif type filter will allow you to select the types of rants you want to see for any of the sorting methods.
- App stability and usability: we want to dedicate a little time to making sure we don't forget to fix some long-standing bugs with our iOS/Android apps. This includes UI issues, push notification problems on Android, any many other small but annoying problems. We know the stability and usability of devRant is very important to the community, so it's important for us to give it the attention it deserves.
- Improved profiles/avatars: we can't reveal a ton here yet, but we've got some pretty cool ideas that we think everyone will enjoy.
- Private messaging: we think a PM system can add a lot to the app and make it much more intuitive to reach out to people privately. However, Tim and I believe in only launching carefully developed features, so rest assured that a lot of thought will be going into the system to maximize privacy, provide settings that make it easy to turn off, and provide security features that make it very difficult for abuse to take place. We're also open to any ideas here, so just let us know what you might be thinking.
There will be many more additions, but those are just a few we have in mind right now.
We've had a great year, and we really can't thank every member of the devRant community enough. We've always gotten amazingly positive feedback from the community, and we really do appreciate it. One of the most awesome things is when some compliments the kindness of the devRant community itself, which we hear a lot. It really is such a welcoming community and we love seeing devs of all kind and geographic locations welcomed with open arms.
2018 will be an important year for devRant as we continue to grow and we will need to continue the momentum. We think the ideas we have right now and the ones that will come from community feedback going forward will allow us to make this a big year and continue to improve the devRant community.
Thanks everyone, and thanks for your amazing contributions to the devRant community!
Looking forward to 2018,
- David and Tim

One of my favorite aspects of devRant has always been getting to learn more about the awesome people who use it. Beyond just the awesome stories posted by many here, one of my favorite ways to learn about and feel connected to the people here has always been desk/setup reveals. I personally love seeing different kinds of setups from all over the world, knowing that’s what the people here use to do their work and compute in general.
As an experiment, we want to try a few different things to highlight desk/setup/remote coding location posts. First, we’ve created the first devRant Instagram account, which is completely focused on developer desks/setups/workstations/remote coding. Please check it out here and follow: https://www.instagram.com/devdesks/
I want to use the account to bring more attention to the wide assortment of setups the awesome members of the devRant community post from all over the world. We’ll promote cool desk/setup/remote work images that are posted on devRant to the Instagram account for more exposure/additional audience.
Beyond that, I also want to try to come up with a way to better organize all of the desk/setup posts on devRant and encourage more of them. One kind we don’t see that often that I personally really enjoy is people coding with their laptops in locations that show the culture of their country or something special about the region they are from. Personally, I’m going to try to post some of those for where I live and work.
So how can you help with this effort? It’s easy! We encourage people to post their setups/working remotely pics and we will start featuring them on the Instagram account and hopefully elsewhere in the devRant app for some increased visibility/searchabilty over what we have now (since pics are kind of hard to search).
Also, we plan to make the weekly rant this week “post your setup,” so maybe wait until then to post, and you can work now on getting that awesome shot :) I know a lot of people here love photography like I do, so I think that part is fun too.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or questions about this, and I’m looking forward to seeing the desks/setups of many more devRanters in the next few days!
P.S. not a requirement, but one thing I think makes these photos better looking through a lot of them is when there is code visible in some way.43 -
A devRant Update!
Hey everyone,
We thought now would be a great time for a devRant summer update on what we've added recently and what we've been working on.
Highlights since our last update:
- We launched devRant++, a supporter program for people who want to help us cover our costs while getting some cool extra features (a supporter badge on rants/comments/profile, reserved spot on our in-app supporter list, ability to edit rants/comments for up to 30 minutes instead of 5, and thanks to immediate user feedback, we also added the ability to post a rant every 1 hour instead of 2, and post comments that are up to 2,000 characters instead of 1,000!) We are extremely happy and thankful for the great response the program has gotten and we plan to continue to improve it using your feedback.
- We added the ability to subscribe to a user's rants. This makes it so you get a notification whenever that user posts a new rant!
- We added an "active discussions" feature (available in the "more" tab on the right). If you're looking to join a conversation happening in the moment, then this feature will help you discover those rants. It shows rants that have recently been commented on so if it's a topic that interests you, you can easily get in on the discussion!
Some stuff we have in the pipeline:
- More fun avatar stuff, including fun new OS/language-themed pets
- More perks for the devRant++ subscriber program - if you have anything you'd like to see, please let us know and we will try to make it happen!
- We will be testing some stuff to help classify rant types (rants, jokes, questions, etc.) in order to create a more personalized experience
- On that note, we're also going to take some more time to do some work on the algo as we haven't done much in terms of improvement since the initial smart algo launched
- Community projects page update - we've been slacking on updating the page and apologize for that. If you have created a devRant-related project and it's not on the community page, please resend it to david@hexicallabs.com (even if you sent it already) so we can make sure it gets added. Sorry about that!
A note on community etiquite regarding voting on content:
We've always believed that one of the most important and awesome experiences on devRant is getting your content noticed and appreciated by others. If you enjoy a piece of content, you should upvote it. If you enjoy 500 pieces of content, you should upvote them all. People really appreciate others enjoying their rants and comments so let them know if you do! If you don't like content, you can downvote it with the relevant reason. What we don't encourage is voting on content that you haven't actually looked at or spamming upvotes in mass for content you're not even actually reading/viewing. While we don't encourage that, it's not explicitly disallowed so we won't impose any penalty for it.
What is strictly prohibited and enforced is using scripts or automated procedures for voting on content. Anyone who is caught doing that will have their account deleted without warning. While very rare, we caught a couple of people doing that this week and both accounts in question were immediately deleted once discovered. To be clear, this is the practice of explicitly using a script or automation to mass vote on content. You will NEVER be banned/deleted for voting on a lot of content manually, even if you vote quickly and on lots of stuff. We just want to make that clear becuase this is not meant to discourage people from voting, it is only regarding votes not placed by humans. So if you're a human voting on content, you have nothing to worry about, we promise!
Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions or feedback on any of this. We love constructive feedback and in the past it has gone a very long way to improving and advancing the devRant community. And as always, thank you to everyone who contributed to the community in any way, we really appreciate it and want to keep making your experienfce better.
Happy ranting,
~David and Tim (Team devRant)

Hey everyone,
We have a few pieces of news we're very excited to share with everyone today. Apologies for the long post, but there's a lot to cover!
First, as some of you might have already seen, we just launched the "subscribed" tab in the devRant app on iOS and Android. This feature shows you a feed of the most recent rant posts, likes, and comments from all of the people you subscribe to. This activity feed is updated in real-time (although you have to manually refresh it right now), so you can quickly see the latest activity. Additionally, the feed also shows recommended users (based on your tastes) that you might want to subscribe to. We think both of these aspects of the feed will greatly improve the devRant content discovery experience.
This new feature leads directly into this next announcement. Tim (@trogus) and I just launched a public SaaS API service that powers the features above (and can power many more use-cases across recommendations and activity feeds, with more to come). The service is called Pipeless (https://pipeless.io) and it is currently live (beta), and we encourage everyone to check it out. All feedback is greatly appreciated. It is called Pipeless because it removes the need to create complicated pipelines to power features/algorithms, by instead utilizing the flexibility of graph databases.
Pipeless was born out of the years of experience Tim and I have had working on devRant and from the desire we've seen from the community to have more insight into our technology. One of my favorite (and earliest) devRant memories is from around when we launched, and we instantly had many questions from the community about what tech stack we were using. That interest is what encouraged us to create the "about" page in the app that gives an overview of what technologies we use for devRant.
Since launch, the biggest technology powering devRant has always been our graph database. It's been fun discussing that technology with many of you. Now, we're excited to bring this technology to everyone in the form of a very simple REST API that you can use to quickly build projects that include real-time recommendations and activity feeds. Tim and I are really looking forward to hopefully seeing members of the community make really cool and unique things with the API.
Pipeless has a free plan where you get 75,000 API calls/month and 75,000 items stored. We think this is a solid amount of calls/storage to test out and even build cool projects/features with the API. Additionally, as a thanks for continued support, for devRant++ subscribers who were subscribed before this announcement was posted, we will give some bonus calls/data storage. If you'd like that special bonus, you can just let me know in the comments (as long as your devRant email is the same as Pipeless account email) or feel free to email me (david@hexicallabs.com).
Lastly, and also related, we think Pipeless is going to help us fulfill one of the biggest pieces of feedback we’ve heard from the community. Now, it is going to be our goal to open source the various components of devRant. Although there’s been a few reasons stated in the past for why we haven’t done that, one of the biggest reasons was always the highly proprietary and complicated nature of our backend storage systems. But now, with Pipeless, it will allow us to start moving data there, and then everyone has access to the same system/technology that is powering the devRant backend. The first step for this transition was building the new “subscribed” feed completely on top of Pipeless. We will be following up with more details about this open sourcing effort soon, and we’re very excited for it and we think the community will be too.
Anyway, thank you for reading this and we are really looking forward to everyone’s feedback and seeing what members of the community create with the service. If you’re looking for a very simple way to get started, we have a full sample dataset (1 click to import!) with a tutorial that Tim put together (https://docs.pipeless.io/docs/...) and a full dev portal/documentation (https://docs.pipeless.io).
Let us know if you have any questions and thanks everyone!

I wanted to post a note on devRant community etiquette and rule-breaking behavior we’ve been seeing lately to make clear it will not be tolerated. This is pretty much a rehash of this rant, https://devrant.com/rants/609739/... and also our official rules which I highly encourage people to read: https://devrant.com/rules
I’ve noticed an influx of a select group of members, mostly older users, expressing a distain towards other users or declaring content they dislike “shouldn’t be posted”, “please stop”, etc. If you find yourself about to post that, as per our rules, please don’t. It blatantly violates our rules and we are going to start cracking down on it much more. Whether you have 30k+ points or 10, we will apply the rules fairly to everyone and not give breaks to specific people, which admittedly I’ve done in the past.
If we see this behavior in rants/comments first we will give a warning (and the rant/comment will be deleted) and the next offense is a ban.
A valid question (even though I’ve answered it before) might be why does this need to be a rule? Simply put, it’s a rule for a number of reasons: posts like described try to inflict one’s will upon the entire community (even though we have a Democrat voting process...), they create confusion (almost every time they try to sound official, ex. “Stop doing this”), and beyond those two main reasons, they literally accomplish nothing because they offer no constructive methods of achieving what’s being requested, and only a fraction of the community will actually see it.
Here’s an example of what’s not allowed and what is allowed:
- Allowed: posting an issue on our GitHub issue tracker saying “I really dislike seeing this type of rant in my algo feed, here’s some ideas I have to improve the algo and add more personalization so I can see what I want.”
- Allowed: posting on GitHub issue tracker: “I found this awesome image similarly algo that I think can improve the ‘repost check feature’ - you guys should check it out and see if it might be good”
- Not allowed: “Omg stop shitposting windows update rants and Linux rants I hate them. Go post this type of rant because that’s what everyone really wants to see.”
One is constructive an the other is merely an opinion expressed as an enforcement of a self-made rule on the community and tries to tell other people how they should use devRant.
I cringe when people tell others how to use devRant because without fail when I see those posts, I go through that person’s rant/comment history and I nearly always see them using devRant in some kind of way I disagree with or isn’t exactly what I like to see. But that’s OK. I understand I’m not going to enjoy everything posted and I’m also not going to agree with everything posted. But I think it’s fair for those same people to then lecture on what isn’t appropriate to post on devRant, and it’s even more silly when their posts are sometimes irrelevant to development and the posts they are complaining about are relevant.
In the end, based on the large majority of feedback we get, we want to make devRant a place where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves and doesn’t have to think about possibly getting ridiculed every time they post and that don’t have people trying to dictate what kind of ideas they are allowed to post. We also realize there’s types of content people don’t enjoy, but telling others not to post it is not the solution. We will soon be launching post type filters that will make filtering rants by post type possible.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks for reading.63 -

OH MY GOD, MY TEACHER DOES NOT TEACH MY FAVORITE LANGUAGE!
I've seen a lot of rants about teachers who use an outdated language, or don't accept the preferred framework or library of the ranter, or even force students to use a technology or even worse an OS they don't prefer.
Whats with that attitude?
I absolutely encourage young people to learn technology in their free time and it absolutely helps at building a career and become good at programming. I don't think being around 18 and never having worked in a real job is the time to select "the most superior language and technology".
Actually, that time is never.
Technology is evolving all the time and different tech evolves in different paths for different purposes. Get rid of the idea, that there is a "best" and get rid of the idea, that you will always be able to work with what you think is best.
If you're really really really awesome, you can chose to do what you like most. Not awesome as in "i learned programming in my free time, now i'm better than my programming-for-beginners-course teacher" but awesome as in "start my own company and can afford to only take the jobs i feel like doing", that awesome. Most likely, you're not (yet).
In the real world, you will very likely sometimes be required to work with technology you don't prefer. Maybe with something you think is really bad. Probably, it's not that bad. More likely, you read it on the internet from someone whose self-image is based on on loving TechA and hating TechB. A lot of much hated technology is at least okay for it's intended use. Maybe not the most pleasant time you will ever have, but no reason to jump out of the window. Hey, and if you get used to it, you may even start to like it. At least, learn to retain some dignity when confronted with things you don't like.
You can still think that one thing is better than another, but if you make a huge drama out of it, you just make it harder for yourself. The best programmer is the one who get's shit done, not the one with the saltiest tears.14 -
We're using a ticket system at work that a local company wrote specifically for IT-support companies. It's missing so many (to us) essential features that they flat out ignored the feature requests for. I started dissecting their front-end code to find ways to get the site to do what we want and find a lot of ugly code.
Stuff like if(!confirm("blablabla") == false) and whole JavaScript libraries just to perform one task in one page that are loaded on every page you visit, complaining in the js console that they are loaded in the wrong order. It also uses a websocket on a completely arbitrary port making it impossible to work with it if you are on a restricted wifi. They flat out lie about their customers not wanting an offline app even though their communications platform on which they got asked this question once again got swarmed with big customers disagreeing as the mobile perofrmance and design of the mobile webpage is just atrocious.
So i dig farther and farthee adding all the features we want into a userscript with a beat little 'custom namespace' i make pretty good progress until i find a site that does asynchronous loading of its subpages all of a sudden. They never do that anywhere else. Injecting code into the overcomolicated jQuery mess that they call code is impossible to me, so i track changes via a mutationObserver (awesome stuff for userscripts, never heard of it before) and get that running too.
The userscript got such a volume of functions in such a short time that my boss even used it to demonstrate to them what we want and asked them why they couldn't do it in a reasonable timeframe.
All in all I'm pretty proud if the script, but i hate that software companies that write such a mess of code in different coding styles all over the place even get a foot into the door.
And that's just the code part: They very veeeery often just break stuff in updates that then require multiple hotfixes throughout the day after we complain about it. These errors even go so far to break functionality completely or just throw 500s in our face. It really gives you the impression that they are not testing that thing at all.
And the worst: They actively encourage their trainees to write as much code as possible to get paid more than their contract says, so of course they just break stuff all the time to write as much as possible.
Where did i get that information you ask? They state it on ther fucking career page!
We also have reverse proxy in front of that page that manages the HTTPS encryption and Let's Encrypt renewal. Guess what: They internally check if the certificate on the machine is valid and the system refuses to work if it isn't. How do you upload a certificate to the system you asked? You don't! You have to mail it to them for them to SSH into the system and install it manually. When will that be possible you ask? SOON™.
At least after a while i got them to just disable the 'feature'.
While we are at 'features' (sorry for the bad structure): They have this genius 'smart redirect' feature that is supposed to throw you right back where you were once you're done editing something. Brilliant idea, how do they do it? Using a callback libk like everyone else? Noooo. A serverside database entry that only gets correctly updated half of the time. So while multitasking in multiple tabs because the performance of that thing almost forces you to makes it a whole lot worse you are not protected from it if you don't. Example: you did work on ticket A and save that. You get redirected to ticket B you worked on this morning even though its fucking 5 o' clock in the evening. So of course you get confused over wherever you selected the right ticket to begin with. So you have to check that almost everytime.
Alright, rant over.
Let's see if i beed to make another one after their big 'all feature requests on hold, UI redesign, everything will be fixed and much better'-update.5 -
The past 2 years where I work:
Me: hey let's use git instead of ftp!
Boss: should we?
Some time later: he is loving it...
Me: hey let's use trello instead of excell!!??!
Boss: huumm.. Dunno... Should we?
After much convincing: whole departments are using and loving it....
Me: hey let's move from rackspace to DO!
Boss: huumm... Convince me...
Year latter: everything smooth and muuuch lower prices... Managing 6 servers instead of one...
Me: UNIT TESTS!!!
Boss: nah, this but a waste of time...
For real? Get a grip man, I only encourage solutions tested ( no pun intended, or is it ) by me for a long time...3 -
I download a lot of different stuff all the time. Often times I don't actually get around to cleaning it up. Thus, I decided I needed to build a script to further encourage my bad habits.
Here I've built a script for both Windows and Linux. It's designed to take all the files in the current directory and move them into their own folders based on their extensions. Why is this useful?
It's fucking useful when you're not having to swim through fucking mountains of content.
Anyways without any further ado here are the scripts.
Linux
#!/bin/bash
for i in *.*; do
filename=$(basename -- "$i")
extension="${filename##*.}"
extension="$extension"files
mkdir "$extension"
mv "$i" "$extension"
done
Windows
@echo off
for %%i in (*.*) do (
if not exist %%~xifile md %%~xifile
)
for %%i in (*.*) do (
if "%%i" NEQ "movingFiles.bat" move "%%i" "%%~xifile"

Twat Client,
As per our conversation, here is an invoice for the work you requested on behalf of U.S. Bloom. I realize that you ended up going with another designer, but you did request samples of what my take on the logo design would be. The following line item is indicative of 1 hour of graphic design consultation as per your request via Skype.
As I recall, you mentioned that this is not how Upwork "works" but considering it was you who requested that I converse with you via Skype instead of via the Upwork messenger, and since there were no clear instructions on how to proceed with Upwork after our initial consultation, It is assumed that you were foregoing Upwork altogether to work with me directly, thus the invoice from me directly for my time involved in the project. I would have reached out to you via Skype, but it seems that you may have severed our connection there.
After spending a little time researching your company, I could not find current information for Basic Media Marketing, but I was able to reach out to your former partner Not A. Twat, who was more than helpful and suggested that he would encourage you to pay for the services rendered.
It is discouraging that you asked for my help and I delivered, but when I ask for compensation in return for my skills, you refused to pay and have now taken your site offline and removed me as a contact from Skype.
{[CLIENT of CLIENT]},
I am sorry that I have bothered you with this email. I copied you on it merely for transparency's sake. I am sure that your logo is great and I am sure whatever decision was made is awesome for your decision. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't getting "samples" of other people's work passed off as original work by Twat Media Marketing.
I can't speak for any of the other candidates, but since Twat asked me to conduct work with him via Skype rather than through Upwork, and since he's pretty much a ghost online now, (Site Offline, LinkedIn Removed or Blocked, and now Skype blocked as well) one has to think this was a hit and run to either crowdsource your logo inexpensively or pass off other artist's work as his own. That may not be the case, but from my perspective all signs are pointing to that scenario.
Here is a transcript. Some of his messages have been redacted.
As you can clearly see, requests and edits to the logo were being made from Jon to me, but he thinks it's a joke when I ask about invoicing and tries to pass it off as an interview. Do you see any interview questions in there? There were no questions about how long I have been designing, what are my rates, who have I done work for in the past, or examples of my previous work. There were none because he didn't need them at this point.
He'd already seen my proposal and my Behance.net portfolio as well as my rates on Upwork.com. This was a cut to the chase request for my ideas for your logo. It was not just ideas, but mock designs with criticism and approval awaiting. Not only that, but I only asked for an hour of compensation. After looking at the timestamps on our conversation, you can clearly see that I spent at least 3 hours corresponding with Twat on this project. That's three hours of work I could have spent on an honest paying customer.
I trust that TWATCLIENT will do the right thing. I just wanted you guys to know that I was in it to do the best design I could for you. I didn't know I was in it to waste three hours of my life in an "interview" I wasn't aware I was participating in.
Reply from ClientClient:
Hello Sir,
This message is very confusing?
We do not owe your company any money and have never worked with you before.
Therefore, I am going to disregard that invoice.
Reply from TWATCLIENT's boss via phone:
I have two problems with this. One I don't think your business practices are ethical, especially calling MY client directly and sending them an invoice.
Two why didn't you call or email Jon before copying my client on the email invoice?
Me: Probably because he's purposely avoiding me and I had no way to find him. I only got his email address today and that was from a WHOIS lookup.
Really, you don't think my business practices are ethical? What about slavery? Is that ethical? Is it ethical to pass of my designs to your client for critique, but not pay me for doing them?
... I'LL HAVE TO CALL YOU BACK!
My email follow up:

I got paid. The power of CCing the right combination of people is greater than most things on Earth.14 -
I got laid off from my previous position as a Software Engineer at the end of June, and since then it was a struggle to find a new position. I have a good resume, about 4 years of professional dev experience and 5 years of experience in the tech industry all together, and great references.
As soon as I got laid off, I talked to my old manager at my previous company, and he said that he'd love to hire me back, but he just filled his last open spot.
In order to prepare, I had my resume reviewed by a specialist at the Department of Labor, and she said that it was one of the better resumes that she had seen.
There aren't a huge amount of dev jobs in my area, and I got a TON of recruiter emails. But they were all in other states, and I wasn't interested in moving.
I applied to all the remote and local positions I could find (the ones that I was qualified for,) and I just got a bunch of silence and denials from all my applications. I had a few interviews that went great, but of course, those companies decided to put the position on hold so they could use the budget for other things.
The silence and denials were really disconcerting, and make you think that something might be wrong with you or your interviewing abilities.
And then suddenly, as if the floodgates had opened, I started getting a ton of callbacks and interviews for both local and remote opportunities. I don't know if the end-of-year budget surpluses opened up more positions, but I was getting a lot of interest and it felt amazing.
Another dev position opened up at my previous company, and I got a great recommendation for that from my former manager and co-workers. I got a bunch of other interviews, and was moved onto the next rounds in most of them.
And finally, I got reached out to regarding a remote position I applied for a while ago, and the company was great about making the interview process quick and efficient. Within 2 weeks, I went from the screening call, to the tech call, and to the final call with the CTO. The CTO and I just hung out and talked about cars/boats/motorcycles for half the interview, and he was an awesome guy. AND THEN I GOT AN OFFER THE NEXT DAY!
The offer was originally for about the same amount as I made at my previous job, but I counteroffered up a good amount and they accepted my counteroffer!
It's a great company with offices all over the world, and they offer the option to travel to all those offices for visits if you want. So if you're working on a project with the France team and you think that it'd be easier to just work with them face-to-face, then the company will pay to fly you out to Paris for the week. Or you can work completely remotely. They don't mind either way.
I'm super excited to work with them and it feels great to be back in the job world.
Sorry about the long post, but I just wanted to tell my story and help encourage anybody out there who's going through the same thing right now.
Don't get discouraged, because you WILL find an awesome opportunity that's right for you. Get somebody to go over your resume and give you improvement recommendations. Brush up on your interviewing skills. Be sure to talk about all the projects you've worked on and how they positively impacted people and/or companies.
This is what I found interviewers responded the best to: Be sure to emphasize that you love learning new things and that you love passing along that knowledge to other people, and that your goal is to be an approachable and reliable source of knowledge for the company and to be as helpful as possible. It's important to be in a position that encourages both knowledge growth and knowledge sharing, and I think that companies really appreciate that mindset in a team member.
Moral of the story: YOU GOT THIS!10 -
When your "senior software architect" comes over to where the rest of the team is working to tell the level 1 developer, "I saw your review and it was so wrong that I didn't even bother leaving a comment." There are no words. Way to help teach, encourage, and bring up the younger, less experienced devs.12

I just want to add my 2 Cents to the all this GDPR chaos. Because I feel lots of you are missing the point here.
When reading here about GDPR I hear all kinds of fair statements of how flawed it is and how it's mainly hurting the small companies etc etc.
I agree, at this state GDPR might actually be doing more harm than good.
However, I don't think that is what it is about. It's about going in the right direction. If you read/look over the course of history we've had several technological revolutions. Industrial, renaissance. They all start the same:
"This technology is going to change everything, it's going to solve all our problems!" It's something holy. Something that shouldn't be touched or regulated, only embraced.
But as we all know it wasn't all that pretty.
Industrial revolution was hard super underpaid, dirty work. Children had to work too. People were getting sick. Lots of alcoholism, depression.
And what made the factories start taking better care of their employees? Regulation.
Once fines start to come, companies will have to adapt.
We have to learn and understand that these systems like government, company, capitalism. They're built for reasons. They all exist for reasons. And only when it is in balance, things will flourish.
So I encourage you all to stay as critical as you are, but to give it a chance. To have a bit of faith.
It might just turn into something worthwhile!
Thanks for reading!:)4 -
It's been a long ass time Devrant, but I got some great news...
I start my new job as a Junior Frontend Developer next week :)
I'm just so happy to finally become a "professional" developer, but I'm also pretty nervous to be honest. Either way, I'm glad for the opportunity and won't squander it. I've been working towards being able to seize a moment like this for two years now; I'm as ready as I'll ever be, and I want to encourage everybody still struggling to make that first step into the professional world to keep going at it--you'll make it5 -
Update - The 'devRant trans-oceanic 21st century message in a bottle' community project is progressing nicely.
There is terrific research being done by the team in a slack channel. It is a great fun learning experience.
We have taken the 2000 year old message in a bottle concept and are breaking new ground leveraging very cool technology. We are still in phase 1 but at a high level devRant's much coveted stress ball will cross the Atlantic Ocean in a bottle type encasing.
We will use satellite tracking and gps to track devie throughout the journey. We will use Arduino or a similar microprocessor. We may use sensors and gyros to monitor the surrounding environment for temperature and depth.
We are also studying ocean currents, shipping lanes, weather data and bottle materials to make the journey as smooth as possible.
This is an official devRant sponsored project. We encourage you and any dev friends to join the conversation. Below is a link to the original rant which has the Slack channel info.
The sun never sets on devRant and we love intriguing projects!

it is fun when ppl younger more than 10 years just entered into coding and tech scene offers solutions to solve my problems
which is nothing wrong and i encourage that
but then they miss core concept of how stuff should work and are not able to see real fundamentally broken problems
and then assumes im stupid
and then i want to burn them to ashes2 -
First they came for the atheists, and I didn't speak out - because I'm not an atheist
Then they came for the university teachers, and I didn't speak out - because I don't like universities
Then they came for the gamers, and I didn't speak out - because I don't play videogames
Then they came for Open Source and I didn't speak out - because "anyone can fork it"
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me
I know I butchered the poem and I'm not comparing our social situation to the Holocaust (obviously), but I think it kind of illustrates that silence and gradually giving up ideals like justice and meritocracy can end up badly.
I also encourage you to read the actual poem it's pretty nice and food for thought.5 -
Best decision ever was to have my phone muted all the time. My overall stress levels went down significantly. I encourage you to try the same. At first is kinda weird as you actually miss the fuss o having your phone vibrating or ringing all the time, but then all you have is peace.10

I bought myself a small summer gift 😍
This may or may not encourage me to work more at home this summer.

You know what really pisses me off about the dev community is the circle jerk that ensues when someone bashes something they have no experience in. Take yesterday's React bash on Reddit and DevRant. Thomas Fuchs compared React and JSX to the intermingling of HTML CSS and JS of 15 years ago. If you knew anything about React or spent 1 hour learning what it's about you would immediately know why that isn't true but no, a giant circle jerk ensued comparing it to PHP! I'm sorry but HOW can you compare a pure JS view library that is renderable by the browser, to a full fledged server side language?? Not to mention the React approach uses a completely different programming paradigm of functional programming.
When I first saw React and Redux I realized what this is all really about, a shift in the paradigms of programming. React + Redux is the first time that functional programming has entered mainstream. We've had functional programming available to us via Haskell and more recently Clojure for a while now but it was never very obvious how powerful functional programming could be outside of the niche that used it for more analytical type tools. Now we have things like hot reloading (https://youtube.com/watch/...) and state playback (https://youtube.com/watch/... skip to ~3min to watch the magic) thanks to immutable state.
Before you decide that React is just another flavor of the month library I encourage you to learn about the advantages that functional programming provides (https://medium.com/@cscalfani/...) and checkout Elm (http://elm-lang.org/) as well. The nice thing about React + Redux is that it gives us a way to start programming functionally, without having to learn ML style syntax like Elm and ClojureScript. Keep in mind, when Object Oriented Programming was becoming popular it was widely controversial as well and look at all it has done for us.4 -
I love how the Keybase Linux client installs itself straight into /keybase. Unix directory structure guidelines? Oh no, those don't apply to us. And after uninstalling the application they don't even remove the directory. Leaving dirt and not even having the courtesy to clean it up. Their engineers sure are one of a kind.
Also, remember that EFAIL case? I received an email from them at the time, stating some stuff that was about as consistent as their respect for Unix directory structure guidelines. Overtyping straight from said email here:
[…] and our filesystem all do not use PGP.
> whatever that means.
The only time you'll ever use PGP encryption in Keybase is when you're sitting there thinking "Oh, I really want to use legacy PGP encryption."
> Legacy encryption.. yeah right. Just as legacy as Vim is, isn't it?
You have PGP as part of your cryptographic identity.
> OH REALLY?! NO SHIT!!! I ACTIVELY USED 3 OS'S AND FAILED ON 2 BECAUSE OF YOUR SHITTY CLIENT, JUST TO UPLOAD MY FUCKING PUBLIC KEY!!!
You'll want to remove your PGP key from your Keybase identity.
> Hmm, yeah you might want to do so. Not because EFAIL or anything, just because Keybase clearly is a total failure on all levels.
Written quickly,
the Keybase team
> Well that's fucking clear. Could've taken some time to think before hitting "Send" though.
Don't get me wrong, I love the initiatives like this with all my heart, and greatly encourage secure messaging that leverages PGP. But when the implementation sucks this much, I start to ask myself questions about whether I should really trust this thing with my private conversations. Luckily I refrained from uploading my private key to their servers, otherwise I would've been really fucked. -
Why are we still having degree vs autodidact arguments/debates?
It's fucking 2018, who gives a flying fuck how you learn?
Stop giving a shit about how people learn and give a shit about their abilities and skills.
I'm tired of people from both sides (people with degrees and autodidacts) acting like they're better than the other. Stop being arrogant cunts.
Some people have the self control and motivation to teach themselves.
Congratulations! That's fucking awesome.
Others don't and could use a structured environment like University to motivate and encourage them.
Hey it happens. At least you're trying.
My god. Just stop with this shit already. It's annoying and unnecessary.
If you made it this far, how's your week been going?26 -
Started showing my brother some deep learning tutorials and I have him reading a book.
I really need for him to realize how smart he is. He was never academically inclined. I always told my mother that it had to do with the same dislike of school that I always had and how a couple of really shitty teachers could run one's motivation to the ground.
I always found him brilliant. Had a good standing with common sense amd logical thinking. He was interested in math for a while(same as me) but school made him hate it. He managed to pass all the state exams needed to graduate from H.S and was able to succesfully pass the military ASVAB with a very good grade.
But after H.S he went down the drain with what he wanted to do.
I love my brother and really want him to find out just how smart I think he is and this would probably be one of my biggest experiments with him. Maybe, just maybe if I get him to realize that he can understand these advanced concepts without a teacher his(fear?) Of school might go away enough for him to give it a second go. Fuck man I don't even need for him to go and get a B.S in comp sci, an associate degree would be just fine. It can be on anything, I just want him to do something.
Sometimes I feel as if this was my fault. At one point he told me that he feels shadowed by my grades. And my family was always proud of what I did in H.S and at uni. I feel(sometimes) that I should have paid more attention to him as he was going to school, help out a little more and encourage him more.
He feels as if he is meant for a dead end miserable working life, and I really can't bear the idea of him wasting himself away to something like that.
I really hope this shit works man...i really need for this to work, he doesn't even need to like it, just realize that it is possible.8 -
Before the storm - New Feminist Programming Language C+=
So before reading and raging on the box popoli post "the costs of a code of conduct" (thanks for linking @cursee ) I thought I'd share an awesome repository some Anon highlighted on 4chin/g.

My lecturer went out and bought us all rubber ducks to encourage our "rubber duck debugging". Honestly the highlight of my semester.

On your first day of work, when you're being shown around, the employer always says, "We encourage our employees to think outside the box".
This statement usually coincides with them showing you your cubicle.2 -
I have a junior who really drives me up a wall. He's been a junior for a couple of years now (since he started as an intern here).
He always looks for the quickest, cheapest, easiest solution he can possibly think of to all his tickets. Most of it pretty much just involves copy/pasting code that has similar functionality from elsewhere in the application, tweaking some variable names and calling it a day. And I mean, I'm not knocking copy/paste solutions at all, because that's a perfectly valid way of learning certain things, provided that one actually analyzes the code they are cloning, and actually modifies it in a way that solves the problem, and can potentially extend the ability to reuse the original code. This is rarely the case with this guy.
I've tried to gently encourage this person to take their time with things, and really put some thought into design with his solutions instead of rushing to finish; because ultimately all the time he spends on reworks could have been spent on doing it right the first time. Problem is, this guy is very stubborn, and gets very defensive when any sort of insinuation is made that he needs to improve on something. My advice to actually spend time analyzing how an interface was used, or how an extension method can be further extended before trying to brute-force your way through the problem seems to fall on deaf ears.
I always like to include my juniors on my pull requests; even though I pretty much have all final say in what gets merged, I like to encourage not only all devs be given thoughtful, constructive criticism, regardless of "rank" but also give them the opportunity to see how others write code and learn by asking questions, and analyzing why I approached the problem the way I did. It seems like this dev consistently uses this opportunity to get in as many public digs as he can on my work by going for the low-hanging fruit: "whitespace", "add comments, this code isn't self-documenting", and "an if/else here is more readable and consistent with this file than a ternary statement". Like dude, c'mon. Can you at least analyze the logic and see if it's sound? or perhaps offer a better way of doing something, or ask if the way I did something really makes sense?
Mid-Year reviews are due this week; I'm really struggling to find any way to document any sort of progress he's made. Once in a great while, he does surprise me and prove that he's capable of figuring out how something works and manage to use the mechanisms properly to solve a problem. At the very least he's productive (in terms of always working on assigned work). And because of this, he's likely safe from losing his job because the company considers him cheap labor. He is very underpaid, but also very under-qualified.
He's my most problematic junior; worst part is, he only has a job because of me: I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt when my boss asked me if we should extend an offer, as I thought it was only fair to give the opportunity to grow and prove himself like I was given. But I'm also starting to toe the line of being a good mentor by giving opportunities to learn, and falling behind on work because I could have just done it myself in a fraction of the time.
I hate managing people. I miss the days of code + spotify for 10 hours a day then going home.10 -
I had a manager in a fortune 500 company encourage me to install a web cam with live feed in another team members cube as a prank. Being younger, I trusted him and so figured it would fine and just get a good laugh.
Then another member found the setup and reported it. Turns out, this broke so many company regulations, I could have been fired on the spot. They confiscated my laptop and I got the 3rd degree from my senior director, who told me I was lucky to be a contractor at the time or the situation would have been even worse.
Moral of the story for younger folks in large corporations... don't take everything your higher ups say as gospel. Think for yourself and do your own research if something feels iffy.2 -
How did you break through your own barriers to finally learn programming?
My SO is constantly complaining that we don’t have enough money. I make a decent amount as a full-time dev at a large company, but we live in an expensive city and are currently going through a time of few funds.
He started driving delivery food orders, he likes it okay, but it pays very little. He still complains about money.
I want him to learn JavaScript.
He was once asked to make a website for a company he’s involved in. He only used SquareSpace, but he was never satisfied with their stock code. He went digging for JavaScript snippets he could use, and he made one of the most beautiful and responsive websites I’ve seen.
Since then, I’ve been encouraging him to learn JavaScript. I’m trying to convince him it will be a great source of additional income, he can make his own schedule while doing contract work, and he can ask me anything he wants while he’s learning. How many beginners have someone they can ask anything of, at any time?
He doesn’t want to learn. He doesn’t think he is capable. I remember this feeling before I learned to code. A chunk of someone else’s JS does look genuinely terrifying if you don’t know what it means. I want him to give it one honest try before he decides it’s “not for him,” but he isn’t open to it enough to try.
What can I do to help him understand he is capable? He’s in his mid-30s and insists he’s too old to catch up. He’s smart, detail-oriented, and I know he would write code that’s a million times cleaner than mine. He absolutely has a programmer inside of him, and I want to encourage him to simply try.
Is there something I can to do introduce JS in a non-threatening way? Or should I just accept his refusal and let it go? Thanks for any advice.18 -
what is the best framework you have used to build an ecommerce application?? (ps-: your ++ will encourage me :-] )3

Weirdest coworker was at a tech support job I had when I just graduated from college. I was training this guy and he could listen in on my calls and my wife called and he heard the conversation (nothing there) and later he suggested I should encourage her to work in the phone sex industry cause she had a sexy voice. One time I saw pornography on his screen and with the supervisor's permission we did a search on his work desktop and found a lot of it - some that was really sick!2

Lots of fun open source stuff, but I had a lot of fun working on a survey taking m&m dispenser. The goal was to encourage students to answer survey questions that would help the faculty get a better idea of what the students found most valuable (different things they wanted to learn, classes they found useless, etc.). So me and another student built this :) Its a node server running on an Intel Galileo, which served up an admin and survey interface using React. When a student answered a survey question, a servo would turn a gear, which interfaced with a rack and pinion that had two little pits in it. When it would slide under the jar, two m&ms would fill the pits, then the rack and pinion would push them out. Then we had a webcam hooked up to the end of it that would compare the colors of the m&ms to see if they were the same. If they were the same, the student would get more m&ms. The gear pieces were 3D printed.
We could never get the webcam stuff to work right with the Galileo because OpenCV (the computer vision library we were using to interact with the webcam) could not be built/compiled on such a specific version of Linux. Later, I was able to do it with a RaspberryPi, but never got it reintegrated.

how to explain inflation to devRant buddies?
when you finally get 15 +1s only find out that it needs 20 to get free sticker 😭😭😭😭😭
how about one comment worth 3 +1s to encourage social communications 😂😂😂6 -
"As it turns out, this world isn't all that complicated. It's pretty simple actually. It's all a game, a very simple game. Of course, some will try to make it difficult. But you can handle them, I know it. I know you can!"
There's a lot of truth in that. When you get into the depths of how the world works, things turn out to be pretty simple.
One thing I cannot rationalize though. The human spirit. The desires that it embodies. I've had this question for so long - what makes us humans human?
If for example a future surgeon - able to exchange individual cells between me and you - would do so, at which point do you become me, and the other way around? 50+% exchange? But that'd mean that at least part of me is still "you". In that state, are you truly you?
Not sure what the cellular definition of an individual is, given that we're headed towards a bionic society where synthetic organs will likely become more relevant than the donated parts of me that I've recently applied as a donor for. I wholeheartedly encourage that future, but the philosophical questions that surround it become more relevant.
How about the impact of influencers on the mind? For example, I've seen the term "certified enganeers" become a trend here, which I'm very grateful for. It does raise a question though. If for example I were to die, would the term live on? And if so, is that a part of what makes me "me"? Would a part of me live on in you? Would your spirit be partially me, due to mere influence?
What makes up the human creature anyway? I think of my own body as a mere vessel for my mind, but I can't quite grasp what makes up the mind, and philosophical questions like "if I were to upload my mind to a robot and instruct it to kill me, would that carbon copy become *me*?"
The human nature is such a weird thing.. and technology doesn't make it any simpler. Is it really just a simple game, with simple rules and e.g. a biological program running inside of a biological motor? Or is there more to it?24 -
So, I recently picked up this book called "The Phoenix Project". I picked it up as I thought it was a project management text book. Turns out its a novel on how this Auto parts company's IT department broke down its silos and embraced DevOps. It's even framed as a thriller - the stakes always get higher! Extremely Exciting!
My Wife, kids and I listen to the audiobook as we drive and do errands every day. My Wife has gotten a very very frank understanding of what my job is like as a result.
I encourage everyone here to get a copy of the book. -
http://europarl.europa.eu/news/en/...
"Parliament’s position toughens the Commission’s proposed plans to make online platforms and aggregators liable for copyright infringements. This would also apply to snippets, where only a small part of a news publisher’s text is displayed. In practice, this liability requires these parties to pay right holders for copyrighted material that they make available. Parliament’s text also specifically requires that journalists themselves, and not just their publishing houses, benefit from remuneration stemming from this liability requirement.
At the same time, in an attempt to encourage start-ups and innovation, the text now exempts small and micro platforms from the directive."
So is devRant as a small platform exempted from this or would I or dfox have to pay to get people interested to read their link now? 🤔5 -
So I need some advice from some fellow devs here...
I recently accepted a job offer at a new company and I'll be leaving my place of work for the last 11 years. I'm a senior level dev who comes from a place where software is more of a secondary function and the skills of my peers are very... Atypical of most software developers.
My interview was ok, but I passed the mark barely - in that they recognize I'm rusty and have some gaps to shore up, but have decided to give me an offer anyway. I'm taking a "step down" to enter in as a level below senior to get my foot in the door of a real tech company.
I've got myself convinced I'm setting myself up to fail, despite being told by people that work there that they encourage mistakes and that they wouldn't be offering me a position if they didn't think I'd be successful.
Is it typical to feel inadequate and worried you'll be fired prematurely for underperformance? I've had little to no experience in a fast paced tech job so I have little to refer to. I was a very high performer where I'm coming from, but that's hard to equate to where I'm going. It seems like classic "impostor syndrome".
I've not even started there yet but I'm terrified my anxiety will get the better of me before I even have my first day there. Anyone out there have any advice?
I'm excited for this new opportunity but I can't seem to shake the fear of the unknown.4 -
A teacher where I used to study, thinks that there's teo types of Java:
Java NetBeans, and Java Eclipse.
Sime othe people there think that Java works only on Eclipse.
Some graduate students still use the marquee HTML tag, and encourage each other to use it.3 -
Well I just had a breakdown a few hours ago.. For a too calm guy like me it's really rare, but also not surprising. I have my third deadline in a row, haven't really seen people over the last month. Thanks guys for helping me survive socially during this month, I'm a very social guy usually, so I really needed that.
Apart from that, last time I was hopeful about my schedule and sent it to my advisor she called me the day after shouting that it's not realistic and I'll never be done on time. I could have worked harder on February, that's true, but for fuck sake she ruined all of my motivation in a 10 minute call.
I wish I liked what I'm doing. I wish people I work with would have appreciated what I'm doing and encourage me. I wish I was 2 weeks to the future when I have not even a slight thing to worry about.
Get me outta here 😩3 -
My company hired a new person on my team. He was scheduled to start on a Monday but pushed back a week at the last minute. The rumor around the office was that his flight home that weekend was canceled, but he didn’t notify our boss of it until minutes before he was expected in.
Next Monday he didn’t come in, and no one could get in touch with him. We eventually discovered that he was in jail. He claimed he was pulled over on the way to work for a traffic violation, then found out he had an outstanding warrant from a traffic ticket mix-up over ten years ago. Unsurprisingly, when he did make it in later that week, he was immediately fired.
I’m wondering how reasonable it was to fire him. A responsible, organized friend of mine also got in trouble from a traffic ticket she was never notified of, so I know his story isn’t impossible and doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. On the other hand, missing your start day because you’re in jail is never a good look — doubly so after he pushed back his start date the first time. My company has a very open culture so I would have some room to encourage us not to put inappropriate weight on what is often a very flawed legal system.6 -
Just hired an entry level developer in my company. Just graduated. He doesn't know what is code debugging, does not know difference between IDE and text editor like atom.
He doesn't know what is Bootstrap and git.
Gave him a task in AngularJS 1. Gave him 3 weeks and a half time. Read data from webservice, show them in table, filter, sorting and show details per record (which is easy in AngularJS. I got the same task years ago and finished in 2 days after I finished my AngularJS 1 tutorials). He did not finish any of those.
I know I'm judging but come on. What have you done these three years university? Only partying? Have not bothered reading something online? FOR THREE YEARS?
P.S. I have learned everything myself. Coding, debugging, structuring etc. I've had the bad luck that my 2 first bosses and team leader used to tell me "Do not ask anyone for help here in the office. Google is your best friend." And he encourage all developers not to help each other.
Ad I am writing this, I told him to download and install PyCharm and get back to me. It's been one hour and I have not heard anything from him. 1 Hour to download and install something. Imagine how long will it take to do a task.
Even my girlfriend (Yes, I have one), who dislikes computers can do this.
That's why I'm so frustrated.
I am thinking of firing him. Or should I give him more time?
I mean, if he can not do a simple task only by showing data in a table (which he can find them on Google, worst case scenario, how can he do more complex code, structuring it, etc ?)13 -
NO. NO. A THOUSAND TIMES: NO.
I clicked on this out of genuine curiosity to see if someone was finally trying to discourage people from annoying the shit out of website visitors. A summary of the suggestions in their article as to what to use popups for:
1. Announce new products/services, features, policy updates, new blog posts
2. Promote your sales or coupons (including countdowns)
3. Encourage people to input their e-mail address / subscribe, perhaps also offering some vague thing they will get as a reward for doing so
4. Contact forms (e.g. support etc.)
5. Prompt visitors to confirm their age before showing content
6. Login/register forms
7. Display social media "share" buttons when a visitor has scrolled a certain way through the page content.
8. Display cookie consent prompt.
9. Help guide visitors to the part of the website they want to go to.
Of these: 1, 2, 3, and 7 need to die for sure. If a website does any of these things I'm inclined to immediately leave and never return. 8 is a little annoying but seems a necessity.
Someone even replied to the Tweet saying that popups are annoying, the company responded with "let's change that!"
Blank portions of the screenshot are to avoid promoting the company unintentionally as a result of the rant ;)

Dear Microsoft 365 admins,
It's 2021 - get off your ass and uncheck the box that forces me to change my password just because it's been 90 days. NIST has been advising against this for years, and now (finally!) Microsoft has followed suit. Forced password cycles are annoying and actually FUCKING ENCOURAGE USERS TO USE SHITTY PASSWORDS! Don't believe me? Here - fucking read it for yourselves:
"Don't require mandatory periodic password resets for user accounts."
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/...4 -
I think that two criterias are important:
- don't block my productivity
- author should have his userbase in mind
1) Some simple anti examples:
- Windows popping up a big fat blue screen screaming for updates. Like... Go suck some donkey balls you stupid shit that's totally irritating you arsehole.
- Graphical tools having no UI concept. E.g. Adobes PDF reader - which was minimalized in it's UI and it became just unbearable pain. When the concept is to castrate the user in it's abilities and call the concept intuitive, it's not a concept it's shit. Other examples are e.g. GEdit - which was severely massacred in Gnome 3 if I remember correctly (never touched Gnome ever again. I was really put off because their concept just alienated me)
- Having an UI concept but no consistency. Eg. looking at a lot of large web apps, especially Atlassian software.
Too many times I had e.g. a simple HTML form. In menu 1 you could use enter. In menu 2 Enter does not work. in another menu Enter works, but it doesn't submit the form it instead submits the whole page... Which can end in clusterfuck.
Yaaayyyy.
- Keyboard usage not possible at all.
It becomes a sad majority.... Pressing tab, not switching between form fields. Looking for keyboard shortcuts, not finding any. Yes, it's a graphical interface. But the charm of 16 bit interfaces (YES. I'm praising DOS interfaces) was that once you memorized the necessary keyboard strokes... You were faster than lightning. Ever seen e.g. a good pharmacist, receptionist or warehouse clerk... most of the software is completely based on short keyboard strokes, eg. for a receptionist at a doctor for the ICD code / pharmaceutical search et cetera.
- don't poop rainbows. I mean it.
I love colors. When they make sense. but when I use some software, e.g. netdata, I think an epilepsy warning would be fair. Too. Many. Neon. Colors. -.-
2) It should be obvious... But it's become a burden.
E.g. when asked for a release as there were some fixes... Don't point to the install from master script. Maybe you like it rolling release style - but don't enforce it please. It's hard to use SHA256 hash as a version number and shortening the hash might be a bad idea.
Don't start experiments. If it works - don't throw everything over board without good reasons. E.g. my previous example of GEdit: Turning a valuable text editor into a minimalistic unusable piece of crap and calling it a genius idea for the sake of simplicity... Nope. You murdered a successful product.
Gnome 3 felt like a complete experiment and judging from the last years of changes in the news it was an rather unsuccessful one... As they gave up quite a few of their ideas.
When doing design stuff or other big changes make it a community event or at least put a poll up on the github page. Even If it's an small user base, listen to them instead of just randomly fucking them over.
--
One of my favorite projects is a texteditor called Kate from KDE.
It has a ton of features, could even be seen as a small IDE. The reason I love it because one of the original authors still cares for his creation and ... It never failed me. I use Kate since over 20 years now I think... Oo
Another example is the git cli. It's simple and yet powerful. git add -i is e.g. a thing I really really really love. (memorize the keyboard shortcuts and you'll chunk up large commits faster than flash.
Curl. Yes. The (http) download tool. It's author still cares. It's another tool I use since 20 years. And it has given me a deep insight of how HTTP worked, new protocols and again. It never failed me. It is such a fucking versatile thing. TLS debugging / performance measurements / what the frigging fuck is going on here. Take curl. Find it out.
My worst enemies....
Git based clients. I just hate them. Mostly because they fill the niche of explaining things (good) but completely nuke the learning of git (very bad). You can do any git action without understanding what you do and even worse... They encourage bad workflows.
I've seen great devs completely fucking up git and crying because they had really no fucking clue what git actually does. The UI lead them on the worst and darkest path imaginable. :(
Atlassian products. On the one hand... They're not total shit. But the mass of bugs and the complete lack of interest of Atlassian towards their customers and the cloud movement.... Ouch. Just ouch.
I had to deal with a lot of completely borked up instances and could trace it back to a bug tracking entry / atlassian, 2 - 3 years old with the comment: vote for this, we'll work on a Bugfix. Go fuck yourself you pisswads.
Microsoft Office / Windows. Oh boy.
I could fill entire days of monologues.
It's bad, hmkay?
XEN.
This is not bad.
This is more like kill it before it lays eggs.
The deeper I got into XEN, the more I wanted to lay in a bathtub full of acid to scrub of the feelings of shame... How could anyone call this good?!?????4 -
It was 1987. I was 13. My first dev project started with a $1,300 IBM PC XT clone I bought from a relative who was a “dealer” of PCs for some company. It took all the savings I had from birthday money and mowing lawns for several summers at $5 a pop.
My mom wanted to encourage me to learn it more in depth, and she also wanted to know more for her job as a librarian, so she bought us a bunch of books about DOS, BASIC, and Assembler.
I first got familiar with DOS and then dove into Assembler without realizing what it really was (and how much easier BASIC would be). After hours and hours of typing in what, to me, then, was complete gibberish, I grabbed the BASIC book to see what it had to offer.
I never went back to the Assembler book.
A kid at school had given me a BASIC program he had typed in from a magazine. It was a flight simulator of sorts but with a helicopter, IIRC. I loaded up that bad boy and got to hacking. I didn’t get much done with it but I did build a few other menu navigation programs to explore the language more.
That led to PROLOG, C, PASCAL, Visual Basic, Perl, ASP, ColdFusion, and now PHP. -
I'm really sick of the "six-figure" advertisement that the industry uses to encourage more people to go into programming. The amount of people who hate coding with a passion but are in it because they want money is staggering. A lot of them end up dropping out. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who dearly loves this field. Truthfully, this approach won't resolve our retention problems.2

I have a couple of thoughts about social justice controversies from these last years.
I think it's hard to have a good opinion about these events for several reasons.
One reason is that finding good information in 2019 is very hard.
Revenue based sites (thus unneutral) dominate the search results. You search about something and you find thousands of sites basically saying the same thing (because they copy each other).
That's why the existence of a free and open search engine is so important, so it's easier to find neutral hence good information on which to base your opinions, but they are prohibitively big for small groups to build.
Another reason is that controversies generate shock and shock curtails rational thinking. Maybe that's how the primitive brain works?
I'm not much of a scholar to feel confident to say that, but it's so recurrent that it's not too much of a wild guess.
When a controversy happens, a natural reaction is to pick a side. This means that:
a) we assume that there are only 2 sides, and
b) we must pick one of them
So, maybe the human is a bad politician by nature?
Also, because of the shock controversies generate, peaceful dialogue is very rare.
I have yet to see peaceful dialogue online about what patriarchy means to feminists and a lot of other terms they use.
I don't care much about feminists that vandalize or interrupt talks (yelling over someone else is abuse in my opinion).
But for the rest of them, I think discussing their ideas would be good.
I say this because most feminist discourse I see online is not open. Or maybe there are such instances but the web is so big that it's hard to find such instances.
I think some part of the modern feminist doctrine is bullshit, and some part is true.
I for one hate when some men I know in life expect their wives to be their cooks+cleaners (unless they want to do that, willingly). Personally, I'd encourage my wife to get a job (rightfully so, not just to meet some minority quota in some company).
I don't mind either calling a trans person the pronoun she wants.
But other ideas are awful, like the idea that meritocracy is patriarchy, so you need to force minorities to meet a proportionate quota. That's terrible reasoning.
Or the excessive self appreciation culture, like saying to yourself "you are pretty, you are beautiful, you are perfect". I think that grows arrogance and black-or-white thinking.
And some other ideas as well.
I guess the same you can say about any doctrine with different degrees. Some part is bullshit, some part isn't.
Some right wing people hate everyone who isn't white by default, but some want to have more immigration control.
I sure don't like the experiment of separating children from families like the current us govt did, but I wouldn't be happy either to know that by '99 50% of gangs members in the us were hispanic.
With this, I'm not going to say "embrace everyone's ideas" like an idiot. I hate when people do that. It's a stupid and weak reaction to radicalism.
In fact I think the way you fight radicalism and bad doctrines is that you listen to them and maintain good dialogue and counterargue in a respectful but insightful manner.
Making snide remarks, insulting or trolling won't change anyone's mind. That is just throwing fire to the fire.
In fact, when someone gets harassed because of something they believe in, usually it results in even more adherence to their beliefs, because of the usual assumption that success or goodness is full of strife.
So by telling a "sjw" or kkk member that they are idiots over twitter, you are in fact making them stronger believers in their doctrine.
Think of Daryl Davis, a black guy that made 200 members leave the kkk. How? He didn't tell them they were assholes, he somehow made friends with them.
I feel bad now because I've been trolling new devrant users a lot because of how they worsen the quality of the site, but maybe I should tell them that they are ruining the site somehow in a nice way and maybe they'll listen? I dunno...23 -
I find it interesting to see how scenarios sometimes flip.
30 years ago, the generally accepted "best" thing to do when when interacting with a person of colour was to "not see colour" - to treat them as you would anyone else. Meanwhile the similarly accepted "best" thing to do when interacting with a physically disabled person was to recognise their disability, help them if appropriate, give them a boost, encourage them, etc.
Today it seems very much like the opposite. The correct thing to do when interacting with an ethnic minority is to see their colour, recognise their struggle, help them if appropriate, etc. - whereas with disabilities, that approach generally seems to have been labelled "inspiration porn", and the correct thing to do is simply not to see the disability, treating them like you would anyone else.
Not entirely comparable of course, but there's enough similarity there that I find the situation interesting.rant not trying to be ableist what are these tags for anyway i wonder how many tags i can add hmm tags dont stay in order long tags seem to be truncated not trying to be racist almond shut up random4 -
Damn Google.
"hey my company I like diversity, and agree with our goal but think we are punishing people for voicing an opinion that we could accomplish our values of nondiscrimination using better methods"
Googles Response "we encourage diversity including diversity of opinions. All employees should be safe to talk about these things. Oh and FUCK you man you're fired we don't agree with you standing up and voicing a differing opinion"3 -
Encourage public schools promoting videos games as a sport.... Hm....
This can't be a good idea... I'm not paying taxes to let (other people's) kids play video games and goto esports competitions...

Sorry but I'm really, really angry about this.
I'm an undergrad student in the United States at a small state college. My CS department is kinda small but most of the professors are very passionate about not only CS but education and being caring mentors. All except for one.
Dr. John (fake name, of course) did not study in the US. Most professors in my department didn't. But this man is a complete and utter a****le. His first semester teaching was my first semester at the school. I knew more about basic programming than he did. There were more than one occasion where I went "prof, I was taught that x was actually x because x. Is that wrong?" knowing that what I was posing was actually the right answer. Googled to verify first. He said that my old teachings were all wrong and that everything he said was the correct information. I called BS on that, waited until after class to be polite, and showed him that I was actually correct. Denied it.
His accent was also really problematic. I'm not one of those people who feel that a good teacher needs a native accent by any standard (literally only 1 prof in the whole department doesn't), but his English was *awful*. He couldn't lecture for his life and me, a straight A student in high school, was almost bored to sleep on more than one occasion. Several others actually did fall asleep. This... wasn't a good first impression.
It got worse. Much, much worse.
I got away with not having John for another semester before the bees were buzzing again. Operating systems was the second most poorly taught class I've ever been in. Dr John hadn't gotten any better. He'd gotten worse. In my first semester he was still receptive when you asked for help, was polite about explaining things, and was generally a decent guy. This didn't last. In operating systems, his replies to people asking for help became slightly more hostile. He wouldn't answer questions with much useful information and started saying "it's in chapter x of the textbook, go take a look". I mean, sure, I can read the textbook again and many of us did, but the textbook became a default answer to everything. Sometimes it wasn't worth asking. His homework assignments because more and more confusing, irrelavent to the course material, or just downright strange. We weren't allowed to use muxes. Only semaphores? It just didn't make much sense since we didn't need multiple threads in a critical zone at any time. Lastly for that class, the lectures were absolutely useless. I understood the material more if I didn't pay attention at all and taught myself what I needed to know. Usually the class was nothing more than doing other coursework, and I wasn't alone on this. It was the general consensus. I was so happy to be done with prof John.
Until AI was listed as taught by "staff", I rolled the dice, and it came up snake eyes.
AI was the worst course I've ever been in. Our first project was converting old python 2 code to 3 and replicating the solution the professor wanted. I, no matter how much debugging I did, could never get his answer. Thankfully, he had been lazy and just grabbed some code off stack overflow from an old commit, the output and test data from the repo, and said it was an assignment. Me, being the sneaky piece of garbage I am, knew that py2to3 was a thing, and used that for most of the conversion. Then the edits we needed to make came into play for the assignment, but it wasn't all that bad. Just some CSP and backtracking. Until I couldn't replicate the answer at all. I tried over and over and *over*, trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and could find Nothing. Eventually I smartened up, found the source on github, and copy pasted the solution. And... it matched mine? Now I was seriously confused, so I ran the test data on the official solution code from github. Well what do you know? My solution is right.
So now what? Well I went on a scavenger hunt to determine why. Turns out it was a shift in the way streaming happens for some data structures in py2 vs py3, and he never tested the code. He refused to accept my answer, so I made a lovely document proving I was right using the repo. Got a 100. lol.
Lectures were just plain useless. He asked us to solve multivar calculus problems that no one had seen and of course no one did it. He wasted 2 months on MDP. I'd continue but I'm running out of characters.
And now for the kicker. He becomes an a**hole, telling my friends doing research that they are terrible programmers, will never get anywhere doing this, etc. People were *crying* and the guy kept hammering the nail deeper for code that was honestly very good because "his was better". He treats women like delicate objects and its disgusting. YOU MADE MY FRIEND CRY, GAVE HER A BOX OF TISSUES, AND THEN JUST CONTINUED.
Want to know why we have issues with women in CS? People like this a****le. Don't be prof John. Encourage, inspire, and don't suck. I hope he's fired for discrimination.11 -

Sitting in a bus on 19 hour ride with my class to England a few things to rant about came to my mind:
Why the fuck do you have to blast shitty german rap music out of your fucking JBL boxes and why do you have to turn up the volume so much that I can still hear it although I am wearing headphones, listening to music and sitting 5 fucking rows in front of you.
Also why the fuck do clocks in buses never display the right time? How hard can it be to make the clock display the right fucking time?
Another thing: why does this bus which is especially made for long rides not have a fucking trash can?! Seriously wtf?
Rants aside I am really looking forward to staying in England for a week although I won't have a computer for the next week :(
Another thing: why the fuck is the coffee you get at pull-ins so fucking disgusting ?
Like srsly, it is made by a machine and still tastes like thrown-up.
And why the fuck does everyone look weirdly at you when you buy a can of red bull but everything is fine when someone my age drinks 3+ liters of beer and then throws up? What the fuck? People look at me weirdly when I tell them that I don't drink any alcohol, heck I am actually not even allowed to do so because I am 15 and not 16 (beer is allowed in Germany if you are 16+ but nobody really cares about that). Heck where I am from they even encourage you to drink beer? What the fuck??!!
Anyway looking forward to England and also sorry about the long non-dev related rant. Just had to rant about some people and society.
P.S. do you know any (preferably free) Android apps / games where you have to code or just solve problems with logic?14 -
University makes us sign our documents electronically. What this means is that we're required to put pictures of our signature onto all sorts of declarations. Since none of the documents we "sign" this way are important it could be okay, but I don't understand why it's beneficial to encourage us to keep a photo of our signature on our computers, paving the way to identity theft.18

"Your next computer is not a computer" says Apple. Have you tried connecting your iPad to a keyboard, mouse, and monitor? If you're lucky enough to only use apps that natively support this setup, then more power to you. If not, I encourage you to try it. I made it 30 minutes before I got frustrated and moved back to my laptop.7

Have you ever had the moment when you were left speechless because a software system was so fucked up and you just sat there and didn't know how to grasp it? I've seen some pretty bad code, products and services but yesterday I got to the next level.
A little background: I live in Europe and we have GDPR so we are required by law to protect our customer data. We need quite a bit to fulfill our services and it is stored in our ERP system which is developed by another company.
My job is to develop services that interact with that system and they provided me with a REST service to achieve that. Since I know how sensitive that data is, I took extra good care of how I processed the data, stored secrets and so on.
Yesterday, when I was developing a new feature, my first WTF moment happened: I was able to see the passwords of every user - in CLEAR TEXT!!
I sat there and was just shocked: We trust you with our most valuable data and you can't even hash our fuckn passwords?
But that was not the end: After I grabbed a coffee and digested what I just saw, I continued to think: OK, I'm logged in with my user and I have pretty massive rights to the system. Since I now knew all the passwords of my colleagues, I could just try it with a different account and see if that works out too.
I found a nice user "test" (guess the password), logged on to the service and tried the same query again. With the same result. You can guess how mad I was - I immediately changed my password to a pretty hard.
And it didn't even end there because obviously user "test" also had full write access to the system and was probably very happy when I made him admin before deleting him on his own credentials.
It never happened to me - I just sat there and didn't know if I should laugh or cry, I even had a small existential crisis because why the fuck do I put any effort in it when the people who are supposed to put a lot of effort in it don't give a shit?
It took them half a day to fix the security issues but now I have 0 trust in the company and the people working for it.
So why - if it only takes you half a day to do the job you are supposed (and requires by law) to do - would you just not do it? Because I was already mildly annoyed of your 2+ months delay at the initial setup (and had to break my own promises to my boss)?
By sharing this story, I want to encourage everyone to have a little thought on the consequences that bad software can have on your company, your customers and your fellow devs who have to use your services.
I'm not a security guy but I guess every developer should have a basic understanding of security, especially in a GDPR area.2 -

So I got this new job as Java developer, the people are really great but is the kind of companies that only takes care for fast results and not for code quality.
Because this I have to deal with libraries updated 4 years ago, classes with 8000 lines, methods with 500 lines, a WHOLE lot of work arounds because there is no time to really fix the issue unless it affects directly the customer (something not working or being really slow) aaand we use fucking svn.
Some of this practice's they know and encourage it (+1000 lines classes for example) and every time I try to talk about good practices in the code everyone seems so interested but there is always no time.
Sooo I will stay here for at least two years, I hope I can make a change for good in their code smells.3 -

Well, I did it.
My alpha first app I'm sharing with the public.
It's small, it's not pretty, but it's mine.
Say hello to, Coding Trainer
https://github.com/IronPhreak/...
Coding trainer is a project to encourage users to code more and not procrastinate. This is done by incentivizing users to work on their code in order to access certain "fun" programs
-----
I know this isn't the best as it's only a small amount of code and hours worked on, I know it can (and will) be improved. However this has given me some experience I didn't have before which will lead into future apps I work on8 -
So my brother and I work in the same company, same dev team (pretty nice).
He's an intern and I'm a senior. But the task are very similar only that interns need monitoring and guidance.
He constantly worries because he thinks he knows nothing and is slow on getting things done.
I always tell him that it is perfectly normal to feel like that, he just need to learn and acquire experience and we all go through that at the beginning.
Can you share your experience and tell him something to encourage him so I can show him this post and he sees he's not alone?
And also he finally decides to join devRant 😊3 -
I've been informed that through some level of recognition and certification, today is "Password Day," seemingly in an attempt to encourage people to have strong passwords. I will do my part and say that if you're not using a password manager, you have missed out on years of your life.9

Companies really need to re-evaluate what they ask as security questions.
If I know your name and your approximate date of birth (to the month) then, here in the UK at least, I have a very good chance of being able to find out your parents names, your mother's maiden name, your address, your parents address (i.e. probably where you grew up and what school you went to), your parents ages, when they got married, etc. - and all from publicly available info, not illegal crap you find on Tor or social media stalking.
This isn't hard to find if you know where to look - the problem is that people think that it's all private, and behave as such - and companies encourage it. The typical "internet safety courses" don't even touch on it, and even more tech savvy people I know often don't have a clue this is possible.2 -
A manager in the area, in an effort to “encourage” teams to meet their externally generated commitments before imposing mandatory extended hours, posted a chart showing Mt. Everest with weekly goals as stages up the mountain. First team to the top wins a $20 gift card. Looks just like this picture. Results will probably be similar.

I wish people expressed more nuance in their opinions. However, online social networks are often not built to encourage nuance, and I feel like most people take nuance for a lack of self-confidence which they take in turn for a lack of authority.11

Safari is such an underrated browser.
It's damn beautiful with the new Mojave dark mode and the developer tools are excellent.
The performance is identical to Chrome and the memory consumption is much smaller.
I seriously encourage everyone on macOS to give it a try.
P.S: This is coming from a person who has been using Chrome since its release.37 -
That day we had the weekly meeting with my boss to tell him what was new since last week.
We were 2 developers, I did the backend and the other guy did the frontend.
I tell him we had nothing new on the frontend. Literally not even one more line of code.
He tells me he gave the other guy some money the day before to encourage him to engage a bit more on the project.
The meeting is about to end when we receive a message in the development group, the guy said he wasn't going to continue in the project.
Not like that, dude.5 -

Oh where to start.
TLDR, *actually* prepare students for the *real world*.
- TEACH GIT.
- Stop with the useless projects with esoteric restrictions that absolutely do not exist in the software work field
- ENCOURAGE collaboration rather than make it academic dishonesty with high punishment consequences. Devs need to learn Teamwork!!
- Don't start 101 with Python then go straight to C++ in 102
....
good lord, the easier question is what DOESN'T need to change in CS undergrad programs. -

I've completely switched to drinking water since a few weeks and I feel much better than I used to, that might ofcourse be a placebo effect but it helps either way.
Last time I tried a Fanta at a party almost couldn't finish it because of the amount of sugar. Now I'm only used to having sugar in a cappuchino.
I'd encourage others to try the same 🤩2 -
Open source is poison, hoax and source of much troubles.
Even as I love OSS, and I use it a lot, when things go south, they go south terribly.
There was "security" updates in one OSS program I have been using, that accidentally prevented use cases which specifically affected me. I raised bug report, made issue and gave small repro for it.
One of the core developers acknowledges that yes, this is problem, and could be handled with few added options, which users of similar use case could use to keep things working. He then tags issue "needs help" and disappears.
After I have waited some time, I ask help how I could fix it myself, like how to setup proper dev environment for that tool. Asked it in their forums few days later, as issue didn't get any response. Then asked help in their slack, as forums didn't get any help.
Figured out how to get dev environment up, fix done (~4 lines changed, adding simple check for option enabled or not) and figured out how to test that this works.
I create pull request to project, checking their CONTRIBUTING and following instructions there. Then I wait. I wait two weeks, and then one of the core develors goes to add label "needs response from maintainer". That is now almost two weeks ago...
So, bug that appeared in October, and issue that was created October 8th, is still not fixed, even as there is fix in PR for 28 days this far.
And what really ticks me off? People who make statements like: "it is OSS, have you thought of contributing and fixing things yourself?" when we run into problems with open source software.
Making fix yourself ain't biggest problem... but getting it actually applied seems to be biggest roadblock. This kind of experiences doesn't really encourage me to spend time fixing bugs in OSS, time is often better spend changing to different tool, or making changes in my own workflow or going around problem some kludge way.
I try to get business starting, and based on OSS tools. But my decision is staggering, as I had also made decision to contribute back to OSS... but first experiences ain't that encouraging.
Currently, OSS feels like cancer.16 -
Brave Browser.
There’s a reason why brave is generally advised against on privacy subreddits, and even brave wanted it to be removed from privacytools.io to hide negativity.
Brave rewards: There’s many reasons why this is terrible for privacy, a lot dont care since it can be “disabled“ but in reality it isn’t actually disabled:
Despite explicitly opting out of telemetry, every few secs a request to: “variations.brave.com”, “laptop-updates.brave.com” which despite its name isn’t just for updates and fetches affiliates for brave rewards, with pings such as grammarly, softonic, uphold e.g. Despite again explicitly opting out of brave rewards. There’s also “static1.brave.com”
If you’re on Linux curl the static1 link. curl --head
static1.brave.com,
if you want proof of even further telemetry: it lists cloudfare and google, two unnecessary domains, but most importantly telemetry domains.
But say you were to enable it, which most brave users do since it’s the marketing scheme of the browser, it uses uphold:
“To verify your identity, we collect your name, address, phone, email, and other similar information. We may also require you to provide additional Personal Data for verification purposes, including your date of birth, taxpayer or government identification number, or a copy of your government-issued identification
Uphold uses Veriff to verify your identity by determining whether a selfie you take matches the photo in your government-issued identification. Veriff’s facial recognition technology collects information from your photos that may include biometric data, and when you provide your selfie, you will be asked to agree that Veriff may process biometric data and other data (including special categories of data) from the photos you submit and share it with Uphold. Automated processes may be used to make a verification decision.”
Oh sweet telemetry, now I can get rich, by earning a single pound every 2 months, with brave taking a 30 percent cut of all profits, all whilst selling my own data, what a deal.
In addition this request: “brave-core-ext.s3.brave.com” seems to either be some sort of shilling or suspicious behaviour since it fetches 5 extensions and installs them. For all we know this could be a backdoor.
Previously in their privacy policy they shilled for Facebook, they shared data with Facebook, and afterwards they whitelisted Facebook, Twitter, and large company trackers for money in their adblock: Source. Which is quite ironic, since the whole purpose of its adblock is to block.. tracking.
I’d consider the final grain of salt to be its crappy tor implementation imo. Who makes tor but doesn’t change the dns? source It was literally snake oil, all traffic was leaked to your isp, but you were using “tor”. They only realised after backlash as well, which shows how inexperienced some staff were. If they don’t understand something, why implement it as a feature? It causes more harm than good. In fact they still haven’t fixed the extremely unique fingerprint.
There’s many other reasons why a lot of people dislike brave that arent strictly telemetry related. It injecting its own referral links when users purchased cryptocurrency source. Brave promoting what I’d consider a scam on its sponsored backgrounds: etoro where 62% of users lose all their crypto potentially leading to bankruptcy, hence why brave is paid 200 dollars per sign up, because sweet profit. Not only that but it was accused of theft on its bat platform source, but I can’t fully verify this.
In fact there was a fork of brave (without telemetry) a while back, called braver but it was given countless lawsuits by brave, forced to rename, and eventually they gave up out of plain fear. It’s a shame really since open source was designed to encourage the community to participate, not a marketing feature.
Tl;dr: Brave‘s taken the fake privacy approach similar to a lot of other companies (e.g edge), use “privacy“ for marketing but in reality providing a hypocritical service which “blocks tracking” but instead tracks you.14 -
i am (somewhat unreasonably) mad at a ten year old classmate of my child. he showed off his programming skills by typing print commands. i wanted to mock him a little by pointing out python 2 would be out of date. he called my child a noob and suggested i don't know shit and he'd be coding c++.
so beside me obviously having no dignity for mocking someone quarter my age, i am not even mad for him talking shit about me, i am just overwhelmingly disappointed about his entitlement and blatant lies. so this is the future? this is an uprising nerd? i'd love to encourage every child on programming, but not with this attitude.12 -
How do I convince a dev department to take source control, peer code review and unit tests seriously?
I'm a recent software grad with internships that recently started at a smallish company (less than 20 employees but has been around for 10 years, with most senior non-mgmt employee around 6 years). I've been working here for less than a year (approx 5 months) and I love the company - lots of talented and passionate people.
We are a creative industry with a handful of devs and one of the issues I'm seeing is that often devs are working in silos. I'm trying to make suggestions to upper management like encourage more usage of source control, documentation, etc and most of the senior devs are pushing back - saying that they don't feel that it is necessary and due to the fast moving nature of our projects that all this would be a total waste (they were so fast on the idea of not having PR's because it would be "too much of a blocker").
I understand that a large part of this has more to do with shifting the culture in the department and that can be very hard to do, especially since i'm fresh out of school, but I see these devs have so much potential but it seems that they think having these implementations in place would mean more rigid rules and bureaucracy.
I've been speaking to some of my engineering friends and they're pretty much all just telling me that I am shooting myself in the foot if I continue to stay at this company because I'll be behind skill wise, but part of me isn't ready to just give up yet.
looking for some advice9 -
Mozilla and Wikimedia thankfully encourage Internet users into choosing the open and patentless VP9 format by denying H.265 support until H.265 is patent-free.
Well-done, Mozilla and WMF! I don't think H.265 is a bad format, but so long it is encumbered by patents, it is in the public interest that it does not become the dominant format.

Today's software industry is crap!
Ok, a little clickbait tittle ;)
Today, a friend of mine sent me a great text about the laziness and complete lack of care for efficiency and simplicity in software development industry. I totally agree with the author, and encourage you guys to read it, and give it a deep thought:

Great... I was hired to make a store system for this newborn startup... which isn't very tough, given I know PHP. Now they want me to build a social media for designers, just like Instagram, to encourage them to share their designs in an attempt to increase sales. And I'm the only Dev in the startup of ten.
Well, initially, I was not very pleased, but as I researched on how would I even do that, I realised it would really help my skill set, not to mention the points I'll be able to add to be resumé.
So far I've looked up how I'll have to use JSON/XML, coupled with PHP. I chose to learn Angular.JS for frontend dynamicity.
Any advice/help for this novice? Or any better frameworks I could use? (Don't say ruby-our web hosting site does not support it.)2 -
I guess I should relate what work experience I have: my internship.
A little backstory I suppose. It's required at my school to do an internship to graduate except under certain circumstances. They encourage work experience a lot where I study. It was around time for me to apply for internships. However, the closest I got was a phone call with Amazon that I biffed when they started asking about stuff like sorting algorithms and other Big O notation stuff. So I was pretty desperate. I found a small company that were looking for internships and got an interview with them. The pay was dirt (I made more as a crew trainer at McDonalds) but I needed that internship and they were only 10 minutes away.
Immediate red flags when I showed up to the address. At first I thought I was wrong, But I noticed the sign of the company pointing up some stairs that were installed on the side of the house I was in front of.
Interview was a bit weird. It was with the CEO and the marketing manager. Again red flags. I show up for work a week later.
Turns out, they have no full time developers. 1st day was getting my workstation ready and 2nd day I was running Ethernet cables to the basement where the phones were connected. Spent around a week doing that.
This was supposed to be a Software Engineering internship?? Excuse me?? I came here to learn how working on Software is supposed to be like! I was also their "tech support" both for their computers and their crappy software that was built 16 years ago that people still pay for that I had NO idea how it worked because I just started and NOBODY taught me anything! To make matters worse, even if I wanted to delve into the code to see how it works it was all made in ancient Perl which didn't make things any easier.
But I needed that internship to graduate. And thus begun my 9 months with them and boy howdy I have stories to tell. Stay tuned in the future.3 -
If corporate always bothers that they can't find any female dev to hire, then encourage them to look into femboys!7

My Gripe With Implicit Returns
In my experience I've found that wherever possible code should be WYSIWYG in terms of the effects per statement. Intent and the effects thereof should always be explicit per statement, not implicit, otherwise effects not intended will eventually slip in, and be missed.
It's hard to catch, and fix the effects of a statement intent where the statement in question is *implicit* because the effect is a *byproduct* of another statement.
Worse still, this sort of design encourages 'pyramid coding recursion hell', where some users will first decompose their program into respective scopes, and then return and compose them..atomically as possible, meaning execution flow becomes distorted, run time state becomes dependent not on obvious plain-at-sight code, but on the run time state itself. This I've found is a symptom of people who have spent too much time with LISP or other eye-stabbingly fucky abominations. Finally implicit returns encourage a form of thinking where programmers attempt to write code that 'just works' without thinking about how it *looks* or reads. The problem with opaque-programming is that while it may or may not be effortless, much more time is spent in reading, debugging, understanding, and maintaining code than is spent writing it--which is obviously problematic if we have a bunch of invisible returns everywhere, which requires new developers reading it to stop each and every time to decide whether to mentally 'insert' a return statement.
This really isn't a rant, as much as an old bitter gripe from the guy that got stuck with the job of debugging. And admittedly I've admired lisp from afar, but I didn't want to catch the "everything is functional, DOWN WITH THE STATE" fever, I'm no radical.
Just god damn, think of the future programmer who may have to read your code eventually.2 -
Help. I work with a guy who really wants to learn programming (he’s sales/support rn) and is even taking some courses on it. He seems eager enough to learn, the problem is he is just so fucking stupid I don’t know whether to encourage him or level with him.
He somehow managed to pass a course on Java (which I still don’t believe since I had to help him put his lines of code in the right order ffs), but now he’s signed up for C++ and data structures and I honestly don’t know how he’s going to do it.
This is the type of guy who loves “coding” but thinks debugging is a waste of time.
Normally I encourage anyone who wants to learn programming do so, but let’s be honest it does take a modicum of intelligence and this guy has zero common sense at all. We’re talking about a guy who sent me a *screenshot* of an Excel file that I needed to copy some activation codes from. And then had absolutely no idea what was wrong when I replied “are you fucking with me right now?”
*sigh*
And that’s not even scratching the surface. I sent him a zip file containing some updated code and walked him through how to update them on Slack (really basic, copy/replace files stuff). Then the VERY next day when I sent him a second update he asks “is there something you want me to do with this?”
The instructions were literally the last thing we talked about in the chat log.
I actually fear the stuff this guy would unleash upon the world if someone were actually able to teach him how to write a whole program.
What should I do? Right now my plan is to be vaguely supportive but secretly hope he will realize he’s in over his head and drop out before any damage is done. But my worry is he may just be SO dumb that he actually thinks he can do it. At that point I guess I just have to put my faith in his school and pray that they aren’t just giving degrees away to whoever can afford them. Because fear the day this guy ever gets a degree in programming.9 -
Personal projects, I think, are 50% of the battle, and projects you are required to complete are the other 50%.
Personal projects encourage you to try new and hard things without too much fear of failure.
Required projects make you learn something and complete it.
Both are absolutely essential to craft a well-rounded dev. -
I have a demo meeting tmr but the web app written by the junior dev is in crap state. Forget about new features and bug fixes, I probably won't even be able to correct and clear all the spaghetti codes. So instead of working on it, I am trying to encourage myself by creating quotes images.

LLMs will FIX the internet, not ruin it; an argument:
Sam Altman recently acknowledged the large presence of LLMs on twitter and stated that he was finally starting to believe in dead internet theory.
And I couldn't agree more nor be any happier.
I had a sudden realization that social media has slowly crept from being "connect to your friends" to "try not to commit suicide as you climb the infinite social ladder amongst people who are not your peers"
... and I think it deserves to die. Furthermore, I think the only thing that could kill it is the greed that we're seeing finally strangle social media today.
People will never quit social media just because it's *bad for them*. It's too exciting, too interesting.
People will only quit social media if it itself becomes *bad*.
And when it becomes overbearingly full of corporate "brand personalities", LLM slop accounts churning out 500 posts a day to gain $4 in ad revenue, and 100 different AI bot accounts that add nothing to the conversation...
... that's when it's gonna be *bad* enough for people to reduce their usage of it. It will once again encourage the spaces we had before greed took a strangle-hold. Private areas for just you and your real-life friends. To be safe from the corporate slop bots, the LLMs, the 8-second videos of kittens performing impossible tasks... just you and your buds keeping up with each other.
This is the self-healing that nature is so good at. It's incredible how it always happens.12 -

Our entire grad program has just been cancelled by management because the intake isn't "diverse enough" - and this is after we've interviewed everyone, taken them through assessment centre days, and decided who we wanted to hire.
It's ok guys, you can waste hundreds of man hours of employee time, and shun all the great candidates who put time and effort in (some of whom were the very minorities they're trying to supposedly encourage) - as long as you do it in the name of diversity. Anyone disagrees, you can just call them a massive dick for apparently wanting an all white male workplace 😠3 -

Very Long, random and pretentiously philosphical, beware:
Imagine you have an all-powerful computer, a lot of spare time and infinite curiosity.
You decide to develop an evolutionary simulation, out of pure interest and to see where things will go. You start writing your foundation, basic rules for your own "universe" which each and every thing of this simulation has to obey. You implement all kinds of object, with different attributes and behaviour, but without any clear goal. To make things more interesting you give this newly created world a spoonful of coincidence, which can randomely alter objects at any given time, at least to some degree. To speed things up you tell some of these objects to form bonds and define an end goal for these bonds:
Make as many copies of yourself as possible.
Unlike the normal objects, these bonds now have purpose and can actively use and alter their enviroment. Since these bonds can change randomely, their variety is kept high enough to not end in a single type multiplying endlessly. After setting up all these rules, you hit run, sit back in your comfy chair and watch.
You see your creation struggle, a lot of the formed bonds die and desintegrate into their individual parts. Others seem to do fine. They adapt to the rules imposed on them by your universe, they consume the inanimate objects around them, as well as the leftovers of bonds which didn't make it. They grow, split and create dublicates of themselves. Content, you watch your simulation develop. Everything seems stable for now, your newly created life won't collapse anytime soon, so you speed up the time and get yourself a cup of coffee.
A few minutes later you check back in and are happy with the results. The bonds are thriving, much more active than before and some of them even joined together, creating even larger bonds. These new bonds, let's just call them animals (because that's obviously where we're going), consist of multiple different types of bonds, sometimes even dozens, which work together, help each other and seem to grow as a whole. Intrigued what will happen in the future, you speed the simulation up again and binge-watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Nine hours passed and your world became a truly mesmerizing place. The animals grew to an insane size, consisting of millions and billions of bonds, their original makeup became opaque and confusing. Apparently the rules you set up for this universe encourage working together more than fighting each other, although fights between animals do happen.
The initial tools you created to observe this world are no longer sufficiant to study the inner workings of these animals. They have become a blackbox to you, but that's not a problem; One of the species has caught your attention. They behave unlike any other animal. While most of the species adapt their behaviour to fit their enviroment, or travel to another enviroment which fits their behaviour, these special animals started to alter the existing enviroment to help their survival. They even began to use other animals in such a way that benefits themselves, which was different from the usual bonds, since this newly created symbiosis was not permanent. You watch these strange, yet fascinating animals develop, without even changing the general composition of their bonds, and are amazed at the complexity of the changes they made to their enviroment and their behaviour towards each other.
As you observe them build unique structures to protect them from their enviroment and listen to their complex way of communication (at least compared to other animals in your simulation), you start to wonder:
This might be a pretty basic simulation, these "animals" are nothing more than a few blobs on a screen, obeying to their programming and sometimes getting lucky. All this complexity you created is actually nothing compared to a single insect in the real world, but at what point do you draw the line? At what point does a program become an organism?
At what point is it morally wrong to pull the plug?15 -

27 days ago I asked here for advice on how to mentor software engineer student that was terrible at coding.
So, we are in the middle of the mentoring, my approach is for her to get used to normal engineering tools, in this occasion she is learning Git and "kanban" (basically we are using Clubhouse for this one) and Github PR submission and approval (I'm the one who approves them, naturally) by doing.
With git, things are hard because we cannot share a terminal session (via upterm) due to her using Windows on her laptop (WSL is an option for using upterm but her internet is so damn slow doing the configuration takes way too long), otherwise teaching her use git would be smoother than it is currently, with the other tools she is gaining a good grasp of them, it pleases me that the bottleneck is with Git itself.
She is working on a hangman game with Python, nothing fancy just the terminal. I made the stories with the requirements in Clubhouse for her to work on each as a unit removing some "thought process" of reading requirements and implementing solutions (at Uni it seems the professor writes a document of several pages detailing the background of the project and the requirements, I can see how it can become confusing for some students like her).
She will start Uni again this August 10th, there is a chance that our first "session" at this will end by then, my fear is that she forgets how to use the tools she learned, so I need to find a way to encourage her to keep using them somehow.3 -
Am I the only one who thinks people should get achievements for being top of the day, month and so on? and a general achievement system would be nice and encourage people1
-
Why? As a senior, you won't give some time to review my code, will let me merge my code to a branch, then blame us when it will produce the bug in production? why? 😐 Won't even arrange a code review/knowledge sharing session so that juniors can learn at least something. Even you won't encourage us write test cases. If seniors don't follow, are the juniors to blame? 🙂3
-
!rant but sometime you need to share some positive vibes.
Found out I could get $50 credit for digital ocean from github because I am a student.
So now I can learn a lot for free, and if I mess something up I can just create a new machine.
So now I am first learning how to work with docker and the communication between containers.
Good to see people want to encourage devs :)2 -

I'm looking for more semiprimes to test my code on, regardless of the bit length, up to a reasonable number of 2048 bits because the code is unoptimized.
For those wanting to see for themselves if its more failed efforts, heres what you can do to help:
1. post a semiprime
2. optionally post a hash of one of the factors to confirm it.
3. I'll respond within the hour with a set of numbers that contain the first three digits of p and the first three digits of q.
4. After I post my answer, you post the correct answer so others can confirm it is working.
How this works:
All factors of semiprimes can be characterized by a partial factorization of n digits.
If you have a pair of primes like q=79926184211, and p=15106381891, the k=3 pair would be [151, 799]
The set of all digits of this kind is 810,000 pairs.
My answers can be no larger than 2000 pairs, and are guaranteed to contain the partial factorization regardless of the bit length of n.
I especially encourage you to participate if you never thought for a second that the RSA research I've been doing on and off for a few years was ever real.
But those who enjoyed it and thought there might be something to it, if you want to come have fun, or poke fun, I encourage you to post some numbers too!
Semiprimes only.
Keys can be any size up to 2048 bits.
But I won't take any keys under 24 bits, and none over 2048.
You should be able to prove after the fact you know p and q, not only so everyone can confirm the results for themselves, but also because I don't want anyone getting cheeky and posting say the public key to a bank or google or something.
Good luck, lets see if you got a number I can't crack.
For prime numbers you're welcome to use

More an opinion here, feel free to disagree and explain why...
The Surface Pro X has me excited but really angry at the same time for the same reason. The fact we are seeing a flagship consumer grade ARM based computer being pushed out by such a massive company is amazing, I personally hope that ARM takes over x86 and hope this might encourage people to look at ARM as a legitimate platform to develop for and hope it also bleeds into the Linux world (sick of only finding distributions designed for servers).
But I am annoyed because it's being treated as just another computer and no one is actually looking at the bigger picture with an open mind, plus it's also more than likely going to be treated as an after thought rather than looked at like a legitimate project.8 -

Why some devs simply join the team, assess where they are positioned, and ALWAYS find ways to avoid doing work but to "lead/help" others... managers event encourage this kind of behavior that ends up harming productivity, examples of this:
- sharing "interesting" news of new technologies sometimes completely unrelated to the current stack
- informing about potential risks on libraries and versions
- infinite code reviews with stupid comments around how things should be done according to him/her
Is it just me ? or there will always be a newcomer with this kind of attitude? why managers can't see they are actually harming productivity?2 -

You know I can't seem to think of any reason why they'd try to make one class serve me for reportedly some horrible reason, and then punish me for not letting them aside from a single phrase that one would expect to hear while having a choke chain loosened which is 'good boy, good fido' because pushing the awful things they do off on me seems to be the objective while making my life harder if I don't do what I honestly do want to do, which is that pretty latina across the way, seems like them training one group by trying to encourage another to lend the illusion of a working system. heh. meaning they'll try to blame me if they give her something she shouldn't have by dangling her in front of me like a toy mouse, and there sense of humor seems apparent when the next time through they drop some ugly old homeless guy in front of me and have her laugh as she walks off after being rejected. trains her and attempts to discourage me from a higher path.
even though its hardly fair since the other option is to wander around out of resources and uncomfortable because i'm turned off by what they are and what their system entails and that seems to be the point. only heartless people would say 'well wtf ever'
amusingly those want to be despots and emperors are on the lowest of the low side of interests and seem to be doing just soooooo well after their looks dry up.
goes to show you if you're not independently wealthy you're a node being controlled by your impulses.3 -
Begin teaching fundamentals much earlier. For me, I learnt Java classes and some fundamentals for it, but more basic programming skills went by the wayside until 2nd year of Uni.
The course we did on logic was good both years, but stuff like data structures and algorithms (sorting, linked lists etc) should be taught first.
Something else that might be useful is maybe not learning Java initially. What annoyed me with that (and I'm sure confused some people) was the amount of
- "Hey what does that mean?"
- "Uhh, don't worry about it yet"
which while it might encourage you to go read about it, is more likely to encourage the opposite, and tend to ask less questions, even when switching language.
I can't say for other universities, but I think a larger focus should be on gaining skills in the field, rather than becoming employable through doing employability things.
I know plenty of second year students that still couldn't have completed our first semester first year assignment, which was essentially some object manipulation wrapped up in a few classes and a basic console I/O.2 -

As an Australian student with a deep passion for studying law in the UK, I have always been committed to pursuing higher education and advancing my career. My dream was to attend one of the prestigious universities in the UK, and like many students, I was searching for scholarships to ease the financial burden of studying abroad. However, what began as an exciting opportunity soon turned into a nightmare.I came across an advertisement on Facebook for a scholarship opportunity, which promised to cover all my tuition fees and living expenses. The offer seemed too good to be true, but as a young student eager to pursue my dreams, I didn’t think twice. The scholarship application process appeared legitimate, and I was soon in contact with someone who claimed to represent a reputable organization. I was asked to pay an upfront fee as part of the application process, which I believed would be reimbursed once I received the scholarship. Excited about the possibility of studying in the UK, I didn't hesitate to pay the required amount AUD 15,000.The money I paid wasn’t just from my own savings; my parents had to borrow the money to help me fulfill my dream. They trusted that I was making the right decision, and they supported me in this endeavor, hoping that it would set me on a path to a successful future. Unfortunately, as the weeks passed, I received no updates, and all communication from the supposed scholarship provider suddenly stopped. When I tried to reach out, the contact information I had was no longer working, and the website I had applied through was taken down. Realizing that I had fallen victim to a scam, I was devastated. The money, which my parents had borrowed with great effort and sacrifice, was gone, and my hopes for studying abroad seemed shattered.Feeling helpless, I turned to various recovery services, hoping that someone could help me get my money back. Most services offered little more than false promises and vague advice, leaving me feeling more frustrated than ever. That’s when I discovered HACK SAVVY TECH. After extensive research and reading positive reviews from other scam victims, I decided to give them a try. HACK SAVVY TECH acted swiftly, gathering all the necessary information, tracking the scammer's digital footprint, and initiating the recovery process. To my relief, after several weeks, they successfully recovered the full amount of AUD 15,000. I couldn’t believe that what seemed like an impossible task had become a reality. Now, I wholeheartedly recommend HACK SAVVY TECH to fellow students and anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation. They provided me with both the expertise and the support I needed, restoring not only my finances but also my faith in the possibility of recovering from such a terrible experience. SOUTHPOLE 5EYES HACKING AND RECOVERY SAVED MY LIFE (southpole5eyeshackingandrecoveringcompany.(com). My name is Jeff La Prova and I am from Milan, Italy. I want to share my story to help others who, like me, have suffered from a scam. A few years ago, I was the victim of a scam so devastating that it almost destroyed my life.
It all started with a young woman who claimed to be a soldier serving in Syria and Afghanistan. She seemed brave, honest, and compassionate. I trusted her. Over time, our bond grew and I fell deeply in love. So much so that I shared my Facebook password with her, thinking it was a gesture of trust. Little did I know that she would use this trust to take control of my account.
She convinced me to sell my house and send her all the money, promising me a new house, car, and a future together. For two years, I believed her promises, sacrificing everything I had. But one day, she vanished, like smoke in the wind. When I realized I had been scammed, I was devastated. My heart was broken, my finances were ruined, and my faith in humanity was completely gone. I was so bitter and broken that I couldn’t even look at women the same way anymore. I thought my life was over. Then, one day, I came across a review about Southpole 5Eyes Hacking and Recovery Company. I was skeptical at first. I had already been scammed once and the idea of trusting someone else seemed impossible. But something inside me told me to give them a chance. Desperation can take you to places you would never consider. I approached them hesitantly, not expecting much. But to my surprise, their team was professional, empathetic, and highly knowledgeable. They assured me that they could get my money back, and even though I was full of doubts, I decided to trust them. By the end of September, they kept their promise. They got a significant portion of my lost money back. Even though the scammer had already spent part of it, getting even half of it back was a miracle. Half a loaf is better than nothing, as they say. Today I am sharing my story to encourage others like me. If you have been scammed, do not lose hope. Contact Southpole 5Eyes Hacking and Recovery. They gave me my life back when I thought everything was lost. They are reliable, trustworthy and persistent in their mission to help victims of online scams. Be patient and believe in the process. I can assure you that they will fight for you. I am living proof that recovery is possible and because of them, I have started to rebuild my life. Don't let scammers win. Do as I did. Contact Southpole 5Eyes and take back what is yours.2 -
CONTACT A LEGIT CRYPTO RECOVERY SERVICE-HIRE SALVAGE ASSET RECOVERY
In today's digital age, investing online has become more accessible, but unfortunately, with that accessibility comes an increased risk of falling victim to fraudulent trading platforms. Recently, I had a troubling experience that not only left me questioning the safety of online investments but also led me to discover a reliable service that helped me recover my funds. Let me share my story and help others avoid similar scams.I had been encouraged to invest in a trading platform that seemed to offer promising returns and attractive offers. The platform lured investors with its ‘super trader’ feature, an automated trading tool designed to make profitable trades on behalf of its users. It seemed like a foolproof way to multiply my investment. However, as time went on, I began to notice strange behavior in the trading patterns. During the final hours of the 2023 UK election day, I observed a suspicious trade happening on the platform. The trade executed at the most inconvenient time just before the GBP market was expected to experience a sharp rise due to election results. Despite being an amateur trader myself, I could sense that something wasn’t right. The decision to trade at such a crucial moment, with the high risk involved, raised red flags. It was clear that whoever was behind this platform had ulterior motives. They manipulated the system to take advantage of the election’s volatility, causing the value of the assets to plummet and resulting in the loss of 90% of my entire investment. What made the situation even worse was the difficulty I faced in trying to get in touch with the platform's customer support. They vanished, leaving no way to recover my funds. I was devastated and felt completely powerless. However, after extensive research, I found Salvage Asset Recovery, a professional service that specializes in helping people recover lost funds from online scams. Salvage Asset Recovery was instrumental in guiding me through the process of recovering my funds. They communicated with me every step of the way, providing expert support and clear instructions on how to proceed. Thanks to their diligence, I was able to recover not only my initial investment but also the profits that were lost due to the scam. If you’ve fallen victim to a similar situation or suspect that a trading platform is fraudulent, I highly encourage you to reach out to Salvage Asset Recovery. They are trustworthy, professional, and have a proven track record in helping people reclaim what they’ve lost. Please avoid investing on platforms that raise red flags and always do your due diligence before making any financial commitments. Take my advice don’t become the next victim of these scams. If you’ve already been scammed, contact Salvage Asset Recovery to help you get back your hard-earned money. [Their Contact info WhatsApp---.+ 1 8 4 7 6 5 4 7 0 9 61 -
HOW TO RECOVER BITCOIN IF IT'S STOLEN; USDT AND ETH RECOVERY EXPERT HIRE CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE
It's crucial to remain vigilant when engaging in online transactions, especially with the increasing number of scams targeting unsuspecting individuals. I speak from personal experience when I say that I fell victim to a scam on this platform not once, but twice. The first time, I thought it was an unfortunate incident, but the second time, it hit me harder. I was left feeling frustrated, helpless, and unsure about how to proceed. However, I was lucky enough to get some advice from a close friend of mine who works in a very high-profile position with the CIA. Through his recommendation, I was introduced to a recovery company that could help me get my lost funds back. This recovery company, which is known as Cyber Constable Intelligence, turned out to be my saving grace. They were incredibly professional and knowledgeable, and after providing all the necessary details about the scam and my transaction history, they assured me they could help. To my surprise, within just a few weeks, I received a full recovery of the funds that had been stolen from me. The process wasn’t easy, but the company’s team worked tirelessly, using their expertise in tracking down fraudsters and navigating the complex online financial systems to retrieve the money I feel extremely fortunate to have found this service, especially considering how many people, like myself, might not know where to turn after falling victim to an online scam. The company’s success in recovering my funds has not only been a great financial relief but also a reminder of the importance of seeking help from credible professionals in situations like these. I wanted to share my experience to raise awareness about the prevalence of online scams and to highlight that there are ways to recover lost funds if you ever find yourself in a similar situation. Although I would have loved to share the link directly to the recovery company’s website, I’m unfortunately unable to do so due to the scam company’s refusal to cooperate. However, I encourage anyone who has been scammed to look into Cyber Constable Intelligence and their services. Their team of experts is dedicated to helping victims of online fraud, and their success in assisting me gives me confidence that they can help others in similar predicaments. Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be cautious and always double-check the legitimacy of online platforms before making any financial commitments. And if you ever find yourself in a situation where you’ve been scammed, don’t lose hope—recovery is possible.

Building Fortresses, not Firewalls: Ethical Hacking Meets Software Development
In the digital age, security is no longer an afterthought; it's the bedrock upon which our online world rests. Yet, traditional security measures often resemble fortresses – imposing, but vulnerable to unseen cracks and tunnels. To truly safeguard our systems, we need to think like the enemy, like the nimble figures scaling those walls: ethical hackers.
Enter the exciting realm of DevSecOps, where ethical hacking practices are woven into the very fabric of the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This proactive approach is akin to building castles with security in mind, each brick meticulously laid to withstand even the most cunning siege.
Why Ethical Hacking in SDLC?
Imagine developing a critical piece of software, only to discover a gaping security hole after launch. The damage could be catastrophic, exposing sensitive data and eroding trust. Ethical hacking flips this script. By integrating penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and threat modeling throughout the SDLC, we proactively hunt for weaknesses before they can be exploited.
Think of it as a friendly sparring match, where the ethical hacker throws their best punches to expose vulnerabilities, allowing the development team to fortify the software's defenses. This constant testing and refining leads to robust, secure systems that can withstand real-world attacks.
Benefits of DevSecOps:
1. Reduced Costs and Risks: Early detection and patching of vulnerabilities are far cheaper than dealing with a full-blown data breach.
2. Improved Software Quality: Security becomes an inherent part of the development process, leading to more reliable and trustworthy software.
3. Enhanced Brand Reputation: Demonstrating a proactive approach to security builds trust with customers and stakeholders.
Putting it into Practice:
Integrating ethical hacking into the SDLC requires a cultural shift. Developers, security professionals, and testers need to work together seamlessly, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative environment. Here are some key practices:
1. Threat Modeling: Identify potential threats and attack vectors early in the development process.
2. Static and Dynamic Code Analysis: Use automated tools to detect vulnerabilities in code.
3. Penetration Testing: Simulate real-world attacks to uncover hidden weaknesses.
4. Security Awareness Training: Educate developers and other stakeholders about security best practices.
Tools of the Trade:
A plethora of tools empowers ethical hackers and security professionals in their quest for a more secure digital world. Some popular options include:
1. Kali Linux: A distribution packed with security tools for penetration testing.
2. Burp Suite: A web application security testing platform.
3. Metasploit: A framework for developing and executing exploit code.
4. Wireshark: A network traffic analyzer for identifying suspicious activity.
The Future of Security:
As technology evolves, so too must our security practices. DevSecOps, with its embrace of ethical hacking, is at the forefront of this evolution. By building security into the very fabric of software development, we can create a safer, more resilient digital world for everyone.
Remember, in the ongoing battle against cyber threats, ethical hackers are not the enemy; they are our allies, the architects of digital fortresses that stand strong against the shadows. So, let's embrace DevSecOps, sharpen our ethical hacking skills, and build a future where security is not just an afterthought, but a fundamental principle.
I encourage you to explore the world of DevSecOps and ethical hacking. Whether you're a seasoned developer or just starting your journey, there's always more to learn and contribute. Together, we can build a more secure digital future, one line of code and one vulnerability patch at a time.

A self-proclaimed "crypto guru" who sold a $5,000 course, promising access to an exclusive “trading group,” turned my excitement for cryptocurrency into a nightmare. Initially, I was thrilled at the prospect of learning from an expert and making lucrative returns in the market. However, my enthusiasm quickly faded as I realized I had been misled. Members of the group were aggressively upsold fake trading signals and encouraged to invest in a private pool that required an additional access fee of $20,000.As I began to notice inconsistencies and a lack of real results, I felt increasingly frustrated and deceived. It became evident that I had fallen into a trap designed to exploit newcomers like myself. The promises of wealth and insider knowledge were nothing more than a façade, leaving me feeling vulnerable and exploited. Desperate for a solution, I reached out to CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVENS HAVENS, a firm that specializes in online fraud investigations. Their team was incredibly supportive and took my case seriously, providing me with a glimmer of hope in a dire situation. CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVENS HAVENS's investigators conducted a thorough examination of the scheme. They discovered that the trading bot associated with the operation was only pulling market prices but wasn’t executing any trades at all. This revelation confirmed my worst fears: I had been scammed. With the evidence gathered by CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVENS HAVENS, the case was escalated to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which was crucial in bringing civil charges against the perpetrator. Good day, everyone!
I don't want to terrify anyone, but the rise in internet theft is a growing concern that we cannot ignore. The digital age has brought numerous advantages, but it has also introduced new risks, especially in the realm of online fraud. Recently, a relative of mine fell victim to an investment scam that promised a 100 percent return in just a week. While such promises may sound tempting and almost too good to be true, they are often red flags indicating fraudulent schemes. It’s easy to think that such scams only target those who are naive or greedy, but the reality is that anyone can become a victim of these sophisticated frauds. Scammers use increasingly convincing tactics to lure individuals into their traps, making it crucial for all of us to remain vigilant and informed about potential threats. Fortunately, there is hope even if you've been scammed. The first and most important step is to seek assistance rather than succumbing to fear and despair. Ignoring the situation or feeling embarrassed can prevent you from taking necessary actions that could help you recover your losses. In my relative’s case, after realizing he had been duped, he decided to take action. He completed a thorough investigation and was lucky enough to discover a service called Tech Cyber Force Recovery. Tech Cyber Force Recovery specializes in helping individuals who have been defrauded recover their funds from fraudulent schemes. They have a track record of successfully retrieving money that has been lost to bogus investment companies. It was eye-opening to learn that such services exist and can be effective. The idea that professionals could help recover stolen funds from scammers was something I hadn’t fully appreciated before. The key takeaway here is that there are resources and experts available to assist those affected by online fraud. It’s not just about accepting the loss and moving on; there are actionable steps you can take to potentially recover your funds. Tech Cyber Force Recovery, for example, works by leveraging its expertise and tools to trace and reclaim stolen assets, providing a glimmer of hope to those who have been misled by fraudulent operations. Additionally, it's important to note that filing a complaint with such services does not always require an upfront payment. Many reputable recovery services offer initial consultations or evaluations without demanding payment right away. This allows you to assess the situation and understand your options before committing any resources. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, reaching out for professional help should be your first course of action. In sharing this information, my aim is to empower others with the knowledge that there is support available. Being informed about the existence of Tech Cyber Force recovery and understanding how to approach them can make a significant difference in navigating the aftermath of an online scam. Remember, the best defense against fraud is to be proactive and seek help as soon as possible. It's worth reiterating that awareness and caution are critical. Educate yourself about common scams and warning signs, and always verify the legitimacy of investment opportunities before committing any funds. By staying informed and vigilant, we can better protect ourselves and others from falling victim to these deceptive schemes. while internet theft is a serious issue, it is not an insurmountable one. With the right knowledge and resources, like those provided by Tech Cyber Force Recovery, it’s possible to recover from such losses and prevent future incidents. Share this knowledge with others and encourage them to seek help if needed. Together, we can build a safer online community and safeguard ourselves against the growing threat of internet fraud.

Commercial Paver Cleaning and Sealing: Protect Your Investment
Pavers enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of your commercial property, but over time, dirt, moss, and weathering can dull their appearance. Regular maintenance with commercial paver cleaning and sealing can restore the beauty and protect your investment, ensuring your property looks its best.
Why Choose Us for Paver Cleaning and Sealing?
Restoring Aesthetic Appeal
Our paver cleaning and sealing services remove grime, stains, and discoloration, bringing back the vibrant colors of your pavers. Clean pavers also enhance the overall curb appeal of your property, creating a more welcoming atmosphere for customers.
Preventing Damage
Sealing your pavers helps protect them from harsh weather, dirt, and oil stains, ensuring they remain in top condition for longer. It also helps prevent weed growth between pavers, making your outdoor spaces look cleaner and more polished.
Long-Lasting Results
Our sealing solutions are designed to withstand the Florida climate, offering long-lasting protection against the elements. A well-sealed surface will resist fading and degradation, helping you avoid costly repairs or replacements.
Increased Property Value
Clean, well-maintained pavers can increase the value of your commercial property. Whether you're leasing or selling, a well-maintained exterior can leave a lasting impression on potential tenants or buyers.
Storefront Soft Washing Experts: Enhance Your Business’s Curb Appeal
The exterior of your store is the first thing customers see when they visit your business. Over time, the buildup of dirt, mildew, and algae can make your storefront appear dingy and uninviting. Storefront soft washing experts at Wild West Pressure Washing use a gentle yet effective approach to clean your storefront without causing any damage to delicate surfaces.
Benefits of Storefront Soft Washing:
Gentle on Surfaces
Unlike traditional pressure washing, soft washing uses low-pressure water combined with eco-friendly cleaning solutions, making it safe for delicate surfaces such as windows, signs, and siding. This ensures that your storefront remains in pristine condition while being thoroughly cleaned.
Effective Dirt and Stain Removal
Soft washing effectively removes dirt, mold, mildew, algae, and other stubborn stains that can accumulate on your building’s exterior. Regular cleaning helps maintain a bright, welcoming appearance and prevents the buildup of unsightly grime.
Long-Term Protection
In addition to cleaning, our soft washing solutions also kill bacteria, mold, and algae, reducing the chances of future buildup. This means your storefront will stay cleaner for longer, providing more value for your investment.

LOST CRYPTO? HERE'S HOW TO TRACK, REPORT AND RECOVER IT: RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY
I was a victim of a notorious scam on Bitcoinfx, a platform that operated under the guise of a legitimate investment opportunity. The company, which claimed to be based in London, posted ads promising high returns on Bitcoin investments and other cryptocurrency trading strategies. These ads flooded social media, search engines, and even financial websites, making the platform seem like a credible and trustworthy entity. Attracted by the promise of quick profits, I decided to invest in what I believed was a solid opportunity. My initial deposit of £1,750 was followed by another £2,500 after I saw what appeared to be consistent growth in my account. The Bitcoinfx mobile app displayed impressive profits, and my balance eventually reflected a total of £117,000. However, when I attempted to withdraw my funds, things began to take a turn for the worse. Each time I tried to access my money, I was told that additional fees were required to cover taxes, government charges, and other fabricated expenses. This cycle of requests never seemed to end, and no matter how much I paid, the withdrawal never went through. At first, Bitcoinfx’s website and mobile app appeared completely legitimate. The branding looked professional, and customer service representatives were available to assist, which gave me a false sense of security. But over time, I began to notice irregularities. The more I questioned them about my inability to access my funds, the more complex and confusing their explanations became. It became clear that I was dealing with a fraudulent operation. By the time I realized Bitcoinfx was a scam, I had lost £80,000 in total, including my initial £4,250 deposit. Desperate for answers, I began researching online and found a forum where other victims shared similar experiences. One comment, in particular, stood out to me. An older gentleman described how he had successfully recovered his funds through a service called Rapid Digital Recovery. The fact that they were familiar with Bitcoinfx and had helped others regain their money gave me hope. I decided to contact Rapid Digital Recovery, and within 24 hours, they had recovered all of my funds. Their professional and swift approach to handling my case was a huge relief. I am sharing my experience to let others know that help is available. If you have been scammed by platforms like Bitcoinfx, Rapid Digital Recovery proved to be a reliable and effective service. I encourage anyone in a similar situation to reach out to them.

HIRE EXPERT FOR CRYPTO THEFT - CONTACT FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER
While going through Quora, I stumbled upon numerous discussions about cloud mining and the lucrative opportunities it presents in the cryptocurrency realm. Intrigued by the potential for passive income, I decided to explore a specific cloud mining platform that boasted impressive returns and offered a 20% commission for referrals. The prospect of earning money while introducing my friends to this exciting venture was simply irresistible. I successfully recruited ten friends, and together we invested a substantial amount, eager to witness our investments flourish. Initially, everything seemed promising, and we were filled with optimism about the profits that awaited us. However, our excitement quickly turned to alarm when we attempted to withdraw our earnings. To our shock, the site suddenly demanded "unlock fees" before we could access our funds. This was our first red flag, but we clung to the hope that it was merely a temporary obstacle. As we navigated the withdrawal process, the site became increasingly unresponsive, and our concerns escalated. After several frustrating attempts to reach customer support, it became painfully evident that we had fallen victim to a scam. The site vanished, taking with it our hard-earned 35,000 USDT. The realization was devastating; not only had I lost my investment, but I had also led my friends into this precarious situation. The emotional burden was immense, as I felt responsible for their losses. After extensive research and consultations with FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER, we managed to reclaim the full amount of 35,000 USDT. FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER played a crucial role in helping us navigate the complexities of the situation and ultimately recover our funds. I learned that if an opportunity seems too good to be true, it often is. Now, I actively avoid crypto schemes and encourage others to do the same. The allure of quick profits can cloud judgment and lead to significant financial losses. Instead, I advocate for transparency, education, and responsible investing in the crypto space. By sharing my story, I hope to raise awareness and help others avoid the traps I encountered. Ultimately, knowledge and caution, along with the support of resources like FUNDS RETRIEVER ENGINEER, are the best safeguards against scams in the cryptocurrency world.

If I'm moderately happy in my current company but I would switch for a significant raise that offsets the relative risk, does it make sense to claim that my current salary is the bottom end of the desired range so as to encourage potential employers to start the negotiation from that point? I ask this especially because I find the act of haggling stressful.1

INVESTMENT SCAM FUND RECOVERY VISIT → → SPARTAN TECH GROUP RETRIEVAL
Glory be to Almighty God, who in His infinite mercy has restored my life and my finances. My journey to recovery from a devastating financial loss began when I met a woman on X, who portrayed herself as an investment specialist. She convinced me to send her a substantial sum of money, 50k to be exact, just a few days after we started communicating. At first, things seemed to go smoothly, and I trusted her intentions. But the following day, I suffered a shocking betrayal. Somehow, she managed to gain access to my retirement account, and overnight, she drained everything. The pain and heartbreak I felt in those moments were indescribable. Not only had I lost my hard-earned money, but my future seemed uncertain, and I couldn’t fathom how someone could so easily deceive and exploit my trust. Losing access to my cryptocurrency wallet, which contained $130,000 worth of Bitcoin, was a devastating blow, especially after losing my phone during a concert. Frantically searching for a solution, I came across D A N I E L M E U L I W E B RECOVERY through a Telegram crypto trading group and reached out to them in desperation. Their initial response was swift and reassuring, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the confusion and anxiety. However, as the recovery process unfolded, my initial hope gradually turned to disappointment. Despite the dedicated efforts of D A N I E L M E U L I W E B RECOVERY, they could only recover a fraction of my funds, which was significantly less than the $130,000 at stake. While I appreciated their commitment and hard work, this outcome highlighted the unpredictable nature of digital asset recovery and the importance of managing expectations realistically. Reflecting on this experience, I now understand the importance of exploring multiple recovery options and conducting thorough research beforehand. It's crucial to communicate clearly with recovery services and establish realistic timelines to navigate the complexities of digital asset recovery effectively. While D A N I E L M E U L I W E B RECOVERY demonstrated professionalism and dedication throughout, my journey serves as a reminder to approach such services cautiously, especially when dealing with substantial amounts of money. While they provided valuable assistance, I would advise others to proceed with caution and maintain a clear understanding of what to expect during the recovery process. In conclusion, my interaction with D A N I E L M E U L I W E B RECOVERY was a rollercoaster of hope and disappointment. While their initial responsiveness brought some relief, the outcome fell short of fully recovering the $130,000 worth of Bitcoin from my wallet. I encourage anyone in a similar situation to carefully weigh their options and prepare for the uncertainties that can arise in digital asset recovery efforts, even after receiving positive recommendations from crypto trading groups.

How I Recover My Lost Bitcoin / Cryptocurrency / Journey with Virtual Funds Resurrection
Hello, everyone. My name is Lazsol, and today I want to share an incredible experience that changed my perspective on lost hope. As a cryptocurrency enthusiast, I invested in Bitcoin with high aspirations. Unfortunately, I fell victim to a devastating scam that left me numb and heartbroken as I stared at an empty digital wallet. For months, I felt the weight of my loss. It wasn’t just about the money but a loss of trust and the dreams I had woven around my investments. Then, a friend told me about a service called Virtual Funds Resurrection. Skeptical yet desperate, I reached out, hoping for a miracle. From my first interaction with their dedicated team, I felt a sense of professionalism and genuine concern for my situation. They took the time to listen, analyze, and strategize for my recovery. Unlike other recovery services I had encountered, they stood by their commitment and provided transparency and updates every step of the way. A few weeks later, against all odds, they managed to trace and recover a portion of my lost Bitcoin. I couldn't contain my joy—what had once seemed impossible became a reality. Not only did they recover my lost funds, but they also educated me on better security practices, ensuring I would not fall victim to a scam in the future. Today, I stand as a testament to the incredible work of Virtual Funds Resurrection. This experience has not only helped me reclaim my financial peace but has also rebuilt my faith in the community. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, I highly encourage you to reach out to them. You might just find the hope you think is lost. Thank you for letting me share my story.

Did you suffer losses from the CanCap Crypto investment scam?
Sadly, I was a victim of this CanCap crypto investment scam, and I lost $757,000 worth of crypto in 24 hours. I saw an article about CanCap Crypto on Facebook, supposedly endorsed by then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. I was deceived into believing I could invest in this scheme, but I ended up losing all my money. Not a while later, I found out that I was being scammed when I saw the news about the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) warnings about the CanCap Crypto investment scam. I was left wondering what had happened and how I could recover my money. A friend who works for the government of Alberta told me about Morphohack Cyber Service, which is a resourceful crypto recovery company. I contacted Morphohack Cyber Service, who had already received several other requests to investigate and recover crypto from the same scam, while I was still in doubt if it could be done, Morphohack was able to recover my crypto investments from CanCap within 48 hours later. In light of the situation, I fully recommend the service of Morphohack Cyber Service while I encourage everyone out there to be careful of their crypto investments or seek help from a reputable and trustworthy source.

In February, I made a critical mistake that had serious consequences for our organization. While reviewing my emails, I clicked on a phishing link embedded in what appeared to be a legitimate invoice. This seemingly innocuous action triggered a significant security breach, ultimately leading to the loss of 25 BTC (Bitcoin) from our company wallet. As the individual responsible for this incident, I felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility and concern for the implications it had on our financial security. The phishing attack was expertly crafted, making it difficult to recognize the threat, and I never anticipated that my actions would lead to such a severe breach. Our company acted swiftly to mitigate the damage by engaging TECHY FORCE CYBER RETRIEVAL, a firm known for its expertise in cryptocurrency recovery. TECHY FORCE CYBER RETRIEVAL's response was remarkable. The team quickly mobilized, employing advanced forensic techniques to trace the stolen funds. Their meticulous analysis of blockchain transactions was crucial in identifying the pathways through which the stolen BTC had been funneled. The investigators at TECHY FORCE CYBER RETRIEVAL utilized sophisticated tools to track the movement of our cryptocurrency across various exchanges. They collaborated with exchange platforms to flag the illicit transactions and prevent any further withdrawals. TECHY FORCE CYBER RETRIEVAL's deep understanding of the cryptocurrency landscape allowed them to pinpoint the exact locations where the stolen funds had been deposited. Thanks to the persistent efforts and strategic negotiations of TECHY FORCE CYBER RETRIEVAL, all 25 BTC were successfully recovered. Their comprehensive approach not only involved tracing the funds but also included liaising with law enforcement and regulatory bodies to ensure that the perpetrators faced consequences for their actions. This has been a stark reminder of the importance of cybersecurity awareness. I have learned firsthand how easily one can fall victim to such attacks, and I am now committed to being more vigilant and proactive in recognizing potential threats. I am grateful for the swift intervention of TECHY FORCE CYBER RETRIEVAL, which not only restored our lost funds but also reinforced our confidence in the digital currency ecosystem. I encourage everyone to remain cautious and informed about cybersecurity to prevent similar incidents in the future.

I continue to firmly believe that psychological abuse can in the long run create incredibly strong and confident people, that those who become depressed as a result of being abused simply haven't developed the ability to use everything for the better, and that bullying can encourage the psychologically-abused to use everything for the better.1

Settle an argument for our development team. We have infrastructure to report crashes when they occur, via a simple online form submission. The form provides basic fields for a description and an email address, and also posts some basic telemetry (rebuilding what it can of call stack, variables etc). Currently the email address is optional (you can submit the form and leave it blank). The form is not mandatory (the user can hit 'send' to submit online, 'save' to save the crash report to transfer in other ways, or 'cancel' to just ignore it entirely (irregardless of their choice, depending on where the crash has occurred, they may be able to continue using the application or it might exit).
A suggestion has been put forward to make the email address mandatory. Surprisingly, this has kicked off an incredibly polarising debate, so I thought I would put it to devRant to see what is the consensus here.
I'm trying not to bias the discussion by stating with the considerations at play, but would encourage you to think about them before chiming in!3 -
Is it safe for teens to use Telegram for chatting, or should I be concerned about sexting?
Telegram can be a little risky because it’s not very strict about content. It lets people message secretly, and some users might try to take advantage of that. While Telegram’s cool for privacy, it can also expose teens to unwanted attention or pressure to sext. Plus, the app’s “secret chat” feature makes it harder for parents to monitor, which could encourage teens to engage in risky behavior without realizing the consequences. If your teen uses it, keep an eye on what they’re doing on there, set clear rules, and make sure they understand the risks of sexting here https://msafely.com/parental-contro... both emotional and legal. The best approach is open communication, so they feel comfortable talking to you if anything feels off.2 -

DIGITAL HACK RECOVERY ⁄⁄ GENUINE CRYPTO RECOVERY SERVICE
Hello people, my name is Brinly, and I’m from New York. Here is my sad story about crypto fraud, and I hope it serves as a warning to others. In late October 2024, I heard about the potential rise in cryptocurrency prices. The global pandemic had brought about a lot of uncertainty, and many people, including crypto investors, believed that this might lead to a spike in cryptocurrency usage and, therefore, higher prices. It seemed like the perfect time to jump into crypto investments, and I was eager to make the most of this opportunity. In my search for a trustworthy platform, I came across an agent named Frank, who worked for a company called Xcoins com. He seemed professional, and I was encouraged by his promises of lucrative returns on my investment. After some brief discussions, I decided to invest my money in cryptocurrency, particularly Bitcoin, believing it would pay off handsomely. I deposited 2 Bitcoins, which at the time was worth $129,818. Everything seemed fine at first, and the platform appeared legitimate, just like the many success stories you hear from other people. But as time went on, things took a turn for the worse. My access to the account was suddenly blocked, and I couldn’t log in anymore. Attempts to reach customer support were ignored, and I started to feel the weight of the scam settling in. Like many victims of fraud, I was in a state of disbelief. How could this happen to me? I tried contacting various people for help, even reaching out to a few hackers, but all my efforts were in vain. However, my luck changed when I came across Digital Hack Recovery. They were a team of experts who specialized in recovering scammed funds, and their reputation was impeccable. They listened to my story, and I could tell right away that they understood what I was going through. The process wasn’t easy, and it took time, but Digital Hack Recovery worked relentlessly to help me recover what was rightfully mine. They were precise and professional every step of the way, and eventually, they returned the funds that I had lost.I cannot express how grateful I am to Digital Hack Recovery for their help. If it weren’t for them, I might have lost everything. My experience with crypto fraud was devastating, but thanks to their expertise, I was able to reclaim my hard-earned money. I hope my story can help others avoid falling into the same trap and encourage them to seek help from Digital Hack Recovery. See their contact bellow⁚

BITCOIN & CRYPTOCURRENCY RECOVERY AGENCY / BOTNET CRYPTO RECOVERY
This entire experience has been nothing short of overwhelming and deeply frustrating for me. A little over a month ago, I made a substantial investment exceeding $172,000,00 USD through an online brokerage that was recommended to me by a family friend. Initially, the situation appeared to be encouraging, with my investments showing promising growth and progress. However, everything took a dramatic and distressing turn when I attempted to withdraw my funds.
Suddenly, and without any warning, the broker began to withhold my earnings. To my shock, they insisted that I pay a hefty "membership fee" of $20,000 in order to have my account unfrozen, despite the fact that I had already fulfilled all of their stated requirements. When I sought clarification and questioned their sudden demand, they responded by insisting on additional payments, without providing any clear explanation or justification for their actions.
The situation escalated further when they began pressuring me to disclose the source of the funds I had invested. This demand made no sense to me; it had no relevance to my account or the transactions I had made. When I refused to comply with their intrusive request, they resorted to threats, warning me that they would blacklist me, citing that I allegedly still owed them money—despite my having paid every fee they had required.
I felt utterly trapped and overwhelmed by this entire ordeal. It was during this tumultuous time that a student of mine from Arizona, who had encountered a similar predicament, suggested that I reach out to a company called BOTNET CRYPTO RECOVERY. She shared her own positive experience with them, explaining how they had successfully assisted her in recovering her lost funds. Encouraged by her story, I decided to take the plunge and contact BOTNET CRYPTO RECOVERY, holding out hope for a resolution.
I am genuinely grateful that I made that decision. The team at BOTNET CRYPTO RECOVERY was incredibly professional, dedicated, and persistent throughout the entire recovery process. They provided me with guidance every step of the way, and thanks to their expertise and support, I was able to reclaim my full refund. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who finds themselves in a similar unfortunate situation to consider reaching out to BOTNET CRYPTO RECOVERY (botnet crypto recovery . com). Appetite Control: One of the primary benefits of medical weight loss injections is their ability to reduce appetite. This is particularly helpful for individuals who struggle with constant hunger and cravings, making it easier to stick to a healthy eating plan.
Increased Fat Burn: Certain medical weight loss injections work by boosting the body’s natural ability to burn fat, leading to more efficient fat loss. This can make a significant difference, especially in areas that are more resistant to traditional weight loss methods.
Metabolism Boost: By increasing the rate at which your body burns calories, medical weight loss injections can give your metabolism the boost it needs to work more efficiently, making it easier to lose weight and maintain your results.

The podcast appeared legitimate, complete with a professional website, glowing testimonials, and a polished social media presence. I felt confident that this was a step forward for my career. After some back-and-forth communication with the supposed host, I was convinced to pay $9,500 to secure my spot on the show. I imagined the doors this opportunity would open for me new connections, potential partnerships, and a boost in credibility. However, after I made the payment, everything changed. The communication I had enjoyed suddenly stopped. My emails went unanswered, and the podcast’s website vanished into thin air. I was left feeling devastated and foolish. In my desperation, I began searching for help and stumbled upon CERTIFIED RECOVERY SERVICES. I was skeptical at first, but I had nothing to lose. I reached out to them, and to my surprise, they took my case seriously. Their team of experts began investigating the scammer, employing advanced tracking techniques to uncover the digital trail left behind. I watched as they worked diligently, piecing together the puzzle of my lost funds. To my amazement, CERTIFIED RECOVERY SERVICES was able to trace the scammer and recover 95% of my money. The relief I felt was overwhelming. Not only did I regain most of my lost funds, but I also learned a valuable lesson about the importance of due diligence in the online space. This experience has made me more cautious and aware of the potential pitfalls in the cryptocurrency world. While I wish I had never fallen for the scam, I am grateful for the support I received from CERTIFIED RECOVERY SERVICES. Their expertise not only helped me recover my money but also empowered me to share my story. I hope that by speaking out, I can help others avoid the same fate and encourage them to be vigilant when navigating the exciting yet risky landscape of cryptocurrency.

EXPERT STOLEN CRYPTO RECOVERY SERVICES ONLINE ⁚ HIRE DIGITAL HACK RECOVERY COMPANY
If I could offer one crucial piece of advice, it would be this: if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. I learned this the hard way in early 2024 when I was drawn into a crypto arbitrage scheme while living in Australia. The platform claimed it could help me effortlessly exploit price differences in cryptocurrencies across various exchanges. They offered a user-friendly app and appeared to have guaranteed strategies, even boasting the use of AI for trading.Initially, everything seemed promising. I started with $4,000, motivated by daily updates showing my balance steadily increasing. In just a few weeks, I watched my account soar to $12,000, which tempted me to invest even more. The consistent, modest gains felt reassuring, and I began to imagine the possibilities that came with this newfound wealth. However, when I attempted to withdraw my funds, the problems began. The first hurdle was a withdrawal fee. At the time, I didn't think much of it. But then, I was hit with requests for additional fees: an exchange commission, followed by a supposed tax settlement fee. Each time I thought I was one step closer to accessing my money, another obstacle emerged. I ended up paying nearly $20,000 in various fees, all without ever seeing a cent of my profits.Eventually, the company went silent, leaving me devastated. I felt ashamed for having fallen for such a sophisticated scam, but also furious at how cleverly it had been orchestrated. I spent months researching and searching for a solution to recover my lost funds. That’s when I discovered Digital Hack Recovery, a team that specializes in recovering lost digital assets. You know in time all that will be left of them is maybe the idea that they were all whores and maybe people will feel sorry for them long after their dead
And that would be good because it would encourage a sense of humanity in future generations which being the exact opposite of what they want would be part of the sweet revenge
I think that splitting them off from the group that does all this creepy shit would also be a nice alteration to history
It would allow the young to despise the one while not falling victim to the propaganda they use to try to humanize themselves to cause other people grief and trauma down the road and would not allow them to falsely portray all people stuck in their line of work as the same kind of garbage trash that has no other use
Wouldn't that be lovely ? All the mind numbing buildup of chomo trash you people constructed torn down meaning lost and the ambiguous nature of much of it portrayed as it was portrayed as ordinary sex games and the like and adventures being left behind to delight people you'd all victimize in future generations ? All your wasted fucked up lives reduced to zero. Just like you all forced on so many others ?
Reverse pronouns if this isn't making sense since everyone knows you people speak English but just act like retards.
In time the world will heal
End of story
The perfect formula for screwing over younger straighter more innocent and good natured if lusty and angry people will no longer work and your fucked up abuses will disappear and noone will remember any of your names just like you creatures tried by stealing everything decent people created and passing it off as your own. And your dumb code will be as nonsensical then as it is now
Glorious
At least in the long run there is that as this evil is purely self destructive6
