Based on popular demand, we're proud to introduce a basic image repost detector on devRant!
Right now it uses very simple hashing to see if an exact copy of an image was posted recently. If it was, then we display an error and we don't allow the image to be posted.
This is experimental so if you experience any issues with it please let me know.60 -
A note on devRant community etiquette. I've seen some behavior lately that I want to just mention since it goes against the rules of our community. We've specifically built moderation tools into upvoting and downvoting, and that is how all content should be moderated.
Commenting on rants that you don't think should be posted only gives them more exposure and unfortunately at times people trying to moderate content via comments and rants have gotten abusive towards other members. On the contrary, I've yet to see any of the people these select few members accuse of "ruining the community" act hostile towards anyone.
So with that said, I wanted to make sure this policy is visible, because commenting on other people's rants, especially in a hostile way to stop them from posting, is bannable and we really don't want to see it. Like mentioned before, that's what downvoting is for and it's much more effective since it doesn't boost the content like adding a comment does.
We take content quality seriously and while we haven't been able to eliminate reposts completely, we've made a lot of progress. For directly reposted content, we added the repost detector (https://devrant.io/rants/425054/...) and are still working to improve that and appreciate any feedback/ideas for it.
Like any community on the internet, devRant will always have some reposts and it will always have some content you really don't like. That's what comes along with being an open platform with very little moderation. We get requests to moderate more heavily, but we don't like censoring recent rants and don't plan to do that.
Most of the times people who repost content or an image didn't realize it was already posted. Not everyone uses recent sort and almost always they have no ill intent.
Anyway, feel free to let me know if you have any questions and feedback is always welcome.45 -
Every user of any app: "damn these annoying ads. I hate ads!"
Average devRant user: "Dfox, add ads please so we can support you more."
What a wonderful community (except those who repost memes). ❤️13 -
I'm assuming this is a repost. But regardless, how the hell have I never seen this before?!
This is the best desktop ever!!17 -

To all new devs:
• Your language of choice is fine.
• There is no superior way to indent, yours is fine.
• Your IDE is fine.
• Your OS is fine.
Unless you work in my team, of course.18 -
I dont need no girlfriend. Stack is my bae.
PS: Please inform me if this is a repost but haven't seen this on devrant22 -
Hope it's not a repost but this is brilliant... although putting it up in my office wouldnt change anything. Password123 was there before me and it'll be there after me.8
-
Had to delete and repost because the original screenshot showed something personal.
Original caption: How dare Tumblr calls me a nerd! It might be true... But still!13 -
RANT: This one might be a repost and we might not even know.
RANT II: It took me 2 hours to find similar issue for two reasons.. Java and a dumbass motherfucker dev that named functions "mcf"/"MyFold"/"HelpingMeMaking" and was to dumb to make it OP.4 -
1.) Please make WordPress die();
2.) Please prevent recruiters from getting my contact info.
3.) Please ban all "coder meme/joke" sites from instagram. They repost long dead jokes and the jokes don't even make sense if you know how to code.8 -
Around 2009 or earlier, I began the long grueling process of creating my own batch AI (yes batch as in Windows Batch , kill me for not knowing there were better languages around). Looking back at it, it is THE messiest thing I've ever created. Mostly because of how many unnecessary files were created to make the entire thing work. However, I’m still proud of it to this day because of the dedication I had put into creating the entire thing.
I would create diagrams on the mirrors in my room; of course I would be scolded for this. But I really couldn't stop thinking about my program and working through the entire thing.
I would scribble and type whenever I had the chance, trying to create the functions that would allow the thing to talk back to me. Finally, when it opened its eyes and spoke its first words I quickly started creating the functions that would allow it to learn new inputs. Over time and with some elbow grease I was able to polish it up to my liking.
The entire program branched off some of my more earlier programs in batch, they mostly ranged from the medial to the crazy; i.e. turning my computer on and off at certain times of the day, and multithreaded migration of files to new disks
It's not as sophisticated as other AI progrmas that were being made at the time, but at the age of 16 and with no experience in real programming at all, I'd say it was my first stepping stone towards more sophisticated programs, and ultimately, my decision to enter into Computer Science at all.3 -
Before you rant, make sure it's not a repost.
Q: How do you know if it's a repost?
A: If it's a meme on the internet, so very probably that it's already posted here.. so don't8 -
Call to arms devRanters!
Repost to support one of the nicest people on devRant: https://gofundme.com/bluenutterfly
Her recent post https://devrant.com/rants/1052590/...8 -
Sometimes I see how many likes reposts get on here and it makes me want to be a bad person and repost everything I see.2
-
My friend sent me this and I don’t think I ever laughed harder at a dev joke.
Aussie people make everything funnier, idk why (if it’s a repost then sorry)4 -
#Gitlab is currently doing a Dry Run before actual migration on August 11.
In the linked blog-post I found this note:
NOTE to users in Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria: GitLab.com may not be accessible after the migration to Google. Google has informed us that there are legal restrictions that are imposed for those countries.11 -
You know what, I'm out of devRant until Coronavirus is over. I can't take one more repost of the TCP UDP handshake shit.8
-
Do you code in your dream too?
Cuz, I do. Mostly it's about some functionality I am not able to implement in real life, at the end of my dream I feel like I have got a really great logical solution but when I wake up it doesn't make any sense.
(Excuse me if the image is a repost)8 -
This has been posted a few times but I just want to reiterate for noobs that !Rant means NOT rant, like the C, C++, Python, Java, etc versions. Not like CSS !Important or ruby do_this!(indeed) etc.5

Reminder (and probably some form of repost)
Food and sleep are key parts of human behavior.
I forgot and experienced system failure3 -

Let's apply dark theme to the sun. So that I can at least stay away from my airco for 2 fucking minutes and not sweat like a goddamn pig!!! Over a month of this shitty heatwave it's been already.. it never ends, does it?! Fucking hell - literally!!!
Sorry for repost. Apparently it's not possible to edit the tags anymore, and I didn't want this to land up in wk116.6 -
We all have those nights sometimes (and sometimes way too often for a while)
(sorry if repost but haven't seen it yet)1 -
Saw this this morning lol. The best part is that it requires a knowledge of chess AND programming to get it.
Possibly a repost. I haven't been on DevRant in a while.6 -
Hope this is not a repost
A guy is standing on the corner of the street smoking one cigarette after another. A lady walking by notices him and says
"Hey, don't you know that those things can kill you? I mean, didn't you see the giant warning on the box?!"
"That's OK" says the guy, puffing casually "I'm a computer programmer"
"So? What's that got to do with anything?"
"We don't care about warnings. We only care about errors."
😂😂😂😂😂4 -
I always giggle when I search something like "how to kill zombies" in stackoverflow :v
hope not a repost, sorry for the light1 -
Old setup of mine. I'll post a new one when I go to another adventure.
the black thing behind the laptop is my sneaker, and sorry it's a repost3 -
Hi everybody (newbie here).
The most annoying thing about CEO's and bosses is theirs incapability to understand mere technical or even logical matter of topic discussed in important meetings. I found a perfect parody video, which describes how I feel when participating that kind of meeting.
https://youtu.be/BKorP55Aqvg
(sorry if repost)
P.S. Nice community this.devRant
(been lurking few weeks)7 -
Algo strikes very often or people just continue to repost the same things... maybe I know the answer. 🤔2

Non-techie friend: Does Blu-ray Compact disc will be blue in color or contains blue films ( In India we use blue films to refer porn movies ) ?
Me: :/6 -
Petition for devrant to start using iso dates. Or at least pick up the format from the device's locale. But preferably iso. Seeing m/d/y does my head in.12
-
I'm sure it's repost, and I don't know who to credit for this (my fiancé sent it to me), but this is so true ->4
-
The biggest flaw of devRant is down voting is not as simple as up voting. I need to specify the reason for down vote. And those reasons include repost and offensive. This is redundant as there is already an option to report once you open the post. Either make done voting an one click affair or make up voting two click process. There should be uniformity.7
-
When there is now categories to be chosen from, who will be the one downvoting all the unfunny shitty memes since every sane person will choose not to see the these catrgories?1
-
Can I complain most of the memes or jokes in this platform have been overused
I'm usually not the one to speak but sometimes I just see overused jokes or those stolen from Reddit.
Have some originality
(and before you ask, my own memes are on Reddit as well. I repost my own memes, not someone else's)8 -
Goes to settings.
Turns on "Hide posts that are voted repost" switch
Suddenly feed is nothing *but* reposts.
Wat2 -
Am I the only one thinking devRant would be better if you could not post pictures.
We would not have all these repost memes...7 -
Can someone explain the node_modules joke to me please? I've seen it quite a bit now, but I still don't get it. (Attached an example from https://devrant.com/rants/760537/...). Thanks in advance.5
-
Just an suggestion. It has 90% possibility that this is a repost, but...
Can we have the post rant/comment to markdown? So that we can make the editor to markdown and view the rants in markdown.
Doesnt really need to be implemented though.1 -
Repost from Reddit, i will probably do another with certain color theme, i just prefer this to be 'dark' build as it is how i initially immagined it.
I plan on expanding with certain micro pc, as server, 3d printer and some true hifi.
Suggestions?14 -
Urgent!
When down voting needs to be add a non dev related and add to the setting a option to hide all rants voted non dev related.
Basacly like repost but it says non dev related5 -
I know its too old and a repost
but I wasn't expecting to see it in real life
I thought if was a myth
hehehehehehe -
Reposting this rant for more visibility. I do not like to repost, but this is really important, people's privacy is threatened.
https://devrant.com/rants/2436082/...9 -
I think I'am gonna start reposting all those "repost" comments (since they are also a repost).
Don't get me wrong I understand you saw that thing many times already but do you really have to comment saying that it's a repost, isn't it enough just to mark that rant as a repost ?1 -
This happens more often than I'd like to admit...
(repost since the other one contained sensitive information)6 -
When I fail at a Rant and have to delete it out of shame and repost 😢
bug fix: 01101100 01101111 011011002 -
Honestly stack overflow can be helpful but what's not helpful is when some unresponsive asshole puts your question on hold because you left out part of the problem but doesn't respond to you after you edited the post and fixed the questions problem. Like fuck am I ever gonna get it answered or do I have to wait for this fuck wad to say it's okay. At least with asking on reddit I get responses. Fuck man I'm probably just gonna repost.3
-
What is wrong with Stackoverflow mods and so called seasoned users? Why is everyone in such a rush to close questions and point you to other questions which has no relevance.
Once they do this, is just over. Explaining why they are wrong makes no diff. And you can't just repost. The question is just dead.
Genuinely think they should just burn in hell. Sick a holes. If you're not interested in answering or helping at least stay out of people's business.12 -
UNOFFICIAL DEVRANT CLONE JAM
Challenge at least 3 participants of this spontaneous hackathon by presenting your devRant clone until tomorrow, 4 Dec 18:00 UTC! After that, I will repost entries for public rating by people of devRant.
Don't fret and show what you're made of. Each participant gets a certificate from dR Bulletin Board - and winners receive extra artistic prizes contributed by volunteers!3 -
Sorry to repost,
I had made a request for friends post last week, but someone mentioned my discord link was too far down, so maybe people missed it.
So here it is chirptune#1829.
Again, I'm doing wfh and having decent anxiety so I would appreciate talking to someone. I can also hear you on your problems. -
Obligatory repost of @Skayo 's and @frogstair 's revamped API docs.
Thanks to our lords and saviours.

REPOST (since people focused on an unescaped dot rather than on the problem matter).
Has anyone noticed how bad javascript's regex is?
21st century and it still doesn't return capture groups with separate indexes.
regex.exec and str.match doesn't return them either.1 -

If repost sorry for that. Today Im checking /r/AskReddit .
I found this gem - https://reddit.com/r/AskReddit/...
"Today you.... tomorrow me."2 -
People are like a stable set of database artifacts blah blah
Repeat this repost that
Did anyone ever figure out why it is that trained human detection models don’t work better ?
All you’d think they’d have to do is run an animation renderer to create data representing a human figure in every conceivable position imaginable with limbs moving into positions that were within certain tolerances in different positions with different textures
I don’t personally think the full capability is being represented2 -
I've started down voting reports so that the poster knows they have a repost, and so it leaves my feed. Does that make me a horrible person, or just not very new user friendly?2
-
Maybe a repost but interesting no? (got into an discussion with a friend, needed evidence)

I need opinions: Amazon Fire Stick or Google Chromecast?
I want Hulu, Netflix, Crunchy Roll, Amazon Prime TV, and WWE Network.
I welcome all opinions. Remote strength, price, ease of use, and stability are my main concerns.
I also might jail break it and/or try to develop apps for it.
Sorry if a repost but this is a random thought from an alcohol addled mind.
I would use a laptop on every tv, but cost vs benefit says no.3 -
this is a repost organization post. each time you are going to post a classical joke, please find it from items below, and write as comment, the number of the repost. and people will give you ++'s to your comments as if you actually reposted the post. also, feel free to make additions to the list. syntax is:
"(n): [repost context]" for a new item (please do not mess with the order)
"-- [n]: [personal comment]" for simulating the repost.
here we go:
(0): the comic strip about rescuing princesses in different languages.
(1): in case of fire git commit, git push, leave the building.
(2): wanna hear a udp joke? i don't care if you get it.
(3): that joke about java devs wearing glasses because they can't c#.
--------------
An example repost:
-- 0: omg princess lol :)))2 -
I normally don't post memes and stuff unless I made them myself for fear of being a repost and all that.
Was about to share one that I thought was worth the risk, but just as I refresh the feed, it shows up.
Glad I saved myself1 -
I asked the question already this night, but I suppose most of you didn't read it, so I'll repost it.
I want to learn a lisp-family-language, but since there are plenty of them, I can't decide which one.
Please give me some recommendations. -
Just thinking have someone ever down-voted a rant? If yeah, what is the reason ? Other than repost4
-
Rather than repost attire image macro like a lot of people seem to enjoy doing I thought I had to repost this thread which hasn't had any comments in 6 days and which is fairly informative:
https://devrant.com/rants/2610345/...3 -
Yay.
Is this the beginning of the end of Windows?
https://itsfoss.com/vr180-creator/
Pls mention if it's a repost.2 -
Given the number of people on here who say "I'm learning" or "I want to learn", I saw this and thought I'd post it. Sorry if a repost or advertising or otherwise not really acceptable, but might be of use to someone.
https://deals.gdgt.com/sales/...1 -
Have the image repost spams slowed down since they stopped giving away free stickers? Er, have they stopped giving away free stickers? Seems like that would help to cut down on the junk.5
-
Maybe devRant still has issues, I swear I've seen this post about 6 posts ago. Oh, it's a repost...4
-
I just wanted to say that most rants I saw today were great. Loads of original pics and good stories. This, while others think devRant is becoming more and more of just a repost forum. Any thoughts?1
-
Repost maybe?
Convince me that either gitlab, or github is better.
I like some of the features on gitlab, but some of my integrations don't work for gitlab.3 -
A little rant about you guys...
Those devRanters that feel the need to put "repost" on every fucking post they come across, I have news for you... By putting "repost" you are intact fucking reposting.
People cannot read every single rant ever posted, and just because you read a similar post, doesn't mean they did. Chill out.4 -
I love marking as repost, to a point where sometimes I just go through rants looking for reposts to mark xD4
-
Saw this on Reddit just now, but I figured it would be a pretty good repost here.
Happy building!
Edit: image resolution was crappy, so here's a link
