Those who press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
Those who press Ctrl+Alt+Del and click on Task Manager.19 -

I hate it when people rant that we need to call 'Ctrl, Alt & Delete' for help when we're in problem.
Real geek will use 'Ctrl + Shift + Esc'.11 -
Oh RLY? you want me to confirm my email address?
Shift+Tab - Ctl+a - Ctrl+c - Tab - Ctrl+v

Have you ever noticed something?
Those people who are somewhat into PC gaming and then have a day job behind the desk pushing buttons...
...More often than not have their hand resting position on WASD / left shift / space ?
Every time I notice this on myself or anyone else - kinda find it amusing 😄8 -
Coding has caused a paradigm shift in the way I look at the world. Previously I would look at something and be amazed as to how it happened or was made and then depressed because I would think such things could only be done by geniuses and not by me. Now, I know that complex things are made up of many simple things and anything complex can be kind of deconstructed with enough understanding. Its an empowering feeling knowing that I can create something amaizng.3

CAN WE PLEASE STANDARDIZE THE "REDO" KEYBOARD SHORTCUT?
I don't care if it is Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z. Can we just unify it across all programs?18 -
So here I am... thinking to myself how does this kid not know about the shift key?
Me: "Ok we're going to test see if you have sudo access. Please enter your password, now"
Student: ~stares at the black terminal box and begins pressing the caps lock key. The light doesn't display~
Student: "Um... what? Do I need to enter a new password?"
Me: "No"
Continues to click the caps-lock button and waiting for a light to appear on the keyboard. It doesn't. He continues clicking.
Me: "You need to press the shift button"
Him: "What???"
Me: "You need to press the shift button"
Him: "Um.. I don't understand"
Him: Presses shift button, nothing happens. Goes back to pressing caps lock button.
Me: "Your password has a capital letter in it right?"
Him: "Um... yeah."
Me: "Press the shift button to capitalize your letters."
Him: "I don't understand... Do I need to enter a new password?"
Me: "No... you need to press and hold the shift key to get a capital letter"
Him: "................................ ............................................ . . . . . .. .. .. .. .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . ...................... . . . . . . . Oh..."
Him: "Presses and holds the shift button with his thumb and then presses the Z key."
Me: ~What in the hell are you doing?~ 🤦
Me: "Perfect it looks like you are a part of the sudoers list."
Me: "You can take you computer back."
Me: ~Do you fucking use the caps lock key to capitalize all the first letters in your sentences? Please tell me you don't!~rant get rid of the caps lock i think he's a transfer student my accent was too strong what are you doing13 -
This is from my days of running a rather large (for its time) Minecraft server. A few of our best admins were given access to the server console. For extra security, we also had a second login stage in-game using a command (in case their accounts were compromised). We even had a fairly strict password strength policy.
But all of that was defeated by a slightly too stiff SHIFT key. See, in-game commands were typed in chat, prefixed with a slash -- SHIFT+7 on German-ish keyboards. And so, when logging in, one of our head admins didn't realize his SHIFT key didn't register and proudly broadcast to the server "[Admin] username: 7login hisPasswordHere".
This was immediately noticed by the owner of a 'rival' server who was trying to copy some cool thing that we had. He jumped onto the console that he found in an nmap scan a week prior (a scan that I detected and he denied), promoted himself to admin and proceeded to wreak havoc.
I got a call, 10-ish minutes later, that "everything was literally on fire". I immediately rolled everything back (half-hourly backups ftw) and killed the console just in case.
The best part was the Skype call with that admin that followed. I wasn't too angry, but I did want him to suffer a little, so I didn't immediately tell him that we had good backups. He thought he'd brought the downfall of our server. I'm pretty sure he cried.5 -
After a decade of coding as a hobby: Shift+Tab lets you move indentations in the code to the left.11

So I used to be a chef, then I got married and decided my weekends and holidays were better spent than making food for ungrateful shit-wagglers, or getting screamed at in Lebanese by the exec Chef during dinner service at the end of a ten-hour shift, so I went back to school for Computer Engineering. I was so worried because I swore compulsively from day one of classes.
Little did I know way back then, the first programming language I ever learned was swearing.2 -
Recruiters, why don’t you shift your working hours? It seems that all of you work 9-5 and this is exactly the time when I don’t feel comfortable describing my current job over phone.5

The designer of this keyboard should be shot on sight! A set of keys left of ctrl, shift, tab...except esc of course. Pure evil! I'm changing the volume, every time that I have to use shift... :/15

Just found an admin portal online. There was a modal asking for password, but in background the portal was visible. ctrl + shift + i and then closed the modal.
Voila, the whole portal and actions are accessible. Seriously, who develops things like these?
I am pretty sure it's vulnerable to sqli and xss too.7 -
I ’m kinda jealous of English programmers. How cool must it be to have all the common characters for programming fit onto a single modifier, and to have all special characters for default vim keybindings available with shift. On a hungarian keyboard, braces and square brackets are both AltGr-bound, but parentheses are shift-bound. Oh, and the semicolon is AltGr + the key right above it, so it breaks touch typing.21

I get fed up when Computer Science students do such things. I told my cousin to uninstall a software, he just pressed Shift+Del on the icon on Desktop and said: "Software deleted Successfully" :(. Why bro why??4

Entire fucking world:
Shift + Enter == New Line
Spreadsheets:
Alt + Enter == New Line
Spreadsheets are America of digital world.5 -
Who is the guy who designed the AZERTY keyboards ? 😠
Seriously... Alt Gr + 5 = [
And the most horrible thing is the "(" char... WHY THE FUCK DID HE PUTS IT IN THE "5" KEY WHEN KEYBOARD IS IN LOWERCASE ? YES, IN LOWERCASE, NOT ONLY WHEN SHIFT IS HOLD.
There are more than 100 keys in a keyboard, so why here? WHY?
Half of time I check if CapsLock is off just to be sure if I can open a bracket just because someone thought it was a good idea to put it here. It annoys me.13 -

A few minuts later he stands behind me asking me why its so slow and my reply was.....
"Well I wasn't in yesterday and you added code and it wasn't this slo... "
Words arnt even out of my mouth and he starts shouting at me

Well okay then sorry...... I guess.5 -
Today I learned that in Unix/Linux or most command lines, when user is asked to choose an option as [Y/n], the uppercase one signifies the default.
I thought they made it a little harder as a security feature to prevent accidental keypress, and I’m shift+Y ing this for the last eight freaking years!!!!! Every time!17 -

WINDOWS!!! Why, just why would you think that choosing frigging "Enter" as the copy key in cmd was a good idea?!?
At least for pasting, Ctrl+Shift+V works, it just jumps through some menus first, for whatever reason. But Ctrl+Shift+C doesn't work.
In general, after using a Linux console a lot recently, everything about the Windows console seems stupid to me.11 -

Can we please make it a mandatory lesson in CS studies and related education that "No hello" is a thing?
I'm fine with greeting me before you state a question, that is polite. But it is impolite to send a DM "Hello $username" and then begin to type your three paragraph question while the other person waits for you.
Just use Shift-Enter and send it all in one message, the app supports long-ass messages!15 -
As devs, our keyboards are arguably the most used tools in the creative process of software development. Shortcuts are essential for (most of) us.
What's your most used keyboard shortcut in your most used IDE? Please explain what it does in which IDE.
Mine is Cmd+Alt+L in IntelliJ (reformat code, but only VCS changed or selected lines). I press it all the time, almost maniacally, after changing anything.
Close second place candidates: Shift+F6 (rename anything, e.g. file, class, function, variable), double Shift (search everywhere), Cmd+Alt+F (find in path, also in code), Cmd+B (go to declaration).12 -
Client: Hey new iOS 11 is coming soon, is out app compatible?
Me: Not sure, let me shift the development to new Xcode 9 and test it out.
Client: So, how was it?
Me: pretty straight forward. all seems fine a couple of bugs.
But then when trying to fold a big function to make things easier to read, you discover that Xcode 9 beta 1,2,3 & 4 DOESN'T FUCKING SUPPORT THAT YET. How on earth is this not yet implemented?5 -
So when I joined the company 2 months ago I was told they offered flexible working, today I received this email. (I can't help but think it is aimed at me given I often arrive between 9 and 10....I'm always the last to go home)
Oh and yes they have named some of the team DevOps and others just Developers, they haven't quite grasped the concept!
-----------------------------------------------------
Morning All,
I have been noticing the start time for all the team members. Some like to start early while some likes the late start. So before Senior management raises any questions below is the shift pattern I would like everyone to stick to it.
I have assigned name against each of the shift which I am aware of. If you would like to change it please let me know. We need at least one Developer between 08:00- 17:30 and at least one Devops between 07:00 – 17:30.
If we have any emergency issues and takes longer to fix it , I would appreciate if you guys can work after your shift. We can adjust this overtime by leaving early next day or whenever possible.
7:00 – 15:30 - @Michael Smith
7:30 – 16:00 - @Sarah Twist @Jim Bob
8:00 – 16:30 - @Lesley Matthews
8:30 – 17:00 - @Bill Best
9:00 – 17:30- @Jennifer Rowe @me!
9:30 – 18:006 -

Does anyone notice that when you go to a 404 page on Google that the title has a "1" at the end, like someone was trying to put three !s but let go of shift to early.

CEO announced a bug bounty programme for devs to do stuff in their free time for additional cash.

Honestly... I'm my own biggest influence. I had a career shift from law enforcement to developer. I hated my job, my life, where I was at and where I was going. I never want to be in that position again so I got myself to a point where I have more freedom and opportunities.

I had a coworker who was once working on around 5 files at the same time
To save them he would navigate to each click file and then save (even with a save all button below it)

He thought that it would unsave all his work fml1 -
Reactive Java.
I actually rather like it, I really do. But the shift in mindset required, and the limited advantages (especially with fibres under heavy development) both mean I think it's incredibly unlikely to last.5 -
Hey, fellow dRs.
I may need some help regarding this circuit.
It is about an 8 Bit multifunctional shift register with a 2 Bit instruction set.
These work:
If "Sel" is 0x00, the circuit loads data into its 8 D flip flops.
If "Sel" is 0x03, the circuit replaces all data with 0s.
These don't work (they do, but they do it in a very strange way and end up filling 1s instead):
If "Sel" is 0x01, it is supposed to ringshift bitwise to the right.
If "Sel" is 0x02, it is supposed to ringshift to the left.
As mentioned above. They do it in a very strange way. If we have 10000000, it will shift to the left or right depending on the "Sel"'s binary value. Let us say we want to shift it right. The output will turn from 10000000 to 01000000 (which is what we want), BUT after that it adds another 1 to it: 01100000. It keeps doing it until every single Bit is a 1. Same thing happens with the left ringshift.
I will include the other circuits used in this circuit in the comment section.25 -

Macbook keyboard is shit
Especially european variant.
I want to see any person in the world that is braindead enough to think that making short left shift if favour of having abolutely useless button there is good.
This is the most stupid decision that could be ever made.
Not only the symbols used by that button are seldom used, they also are duplicated on they other keyboard keys. But shift is used all the time and must be big enough instead of that shit.9 -

During uni times, I was working part-time in a private security firm. A co-worker, I hadn't known yet, was assigned to a 12 hour night shift with me guarding some secret weapon, which was quite boring.
So we talked about life and other things and found out that we both had great interests in building and using PCs. This has lead to a great friendship and dozens of PC we've built, modded and overclocked together.2 -

time zone shift.
Am I the only one whos's inner clock seems to go absolutely crazy...
Might be due to my health issues, but whenever these one hour time shifts happen - trouble sleeping starts again, feeling sluggish and blue and nothing seems to work.
I hope it doesn't take long to readjust, cause today was completely unproductive6 -
Just came across a site with TERRIBLE CSS and some sort of event handling to block the user from accessing the dev tools.
So in my Chrome, no F12 and no Ctrl+Shift+I.
Well, guess what. The Tools menu in the title bar also contains a link to Developer Tools.

Why in the fuck is it so hard to see buttons when kb selecting with tab in a browser? It's like:
"Tab....Tab.....Tab Tab Tab... oops, went too far,
Shift + Tab, Shift + Tab.... fuck!, too far left.. wait, is that button actually highlighted, oh it is too, wtf."
It's 2019, why is this still a thing?8 -
The programmer is seated behind the piano.
He then looks at the piano keyboard and explains:
'The keys are quite uncomfortable, the distance from the up and down is very long...'
But it's awesome that the shift can be pushed by the leg.

When I think of myself as a 41 year old junior developer (2nd career shift), my mind immediately goes to "40 Year Old Virgin" for some reason ...2
-
Hey guys, I've always loved and adored what programmers and developers do, so I really do need your advice on this...
After around nine years in the journalism field, I'm considering a career shift into development, for many reasons including that the journalism field seems to be going down in my country, so I started where most recommendations would tell a beginner to start, learning HTML... Now, is it a good idea for starters to change my career into this magnificent and enormous field? I know it won't be easy, but is it possible to be something in that career?6 -

I’m officially underemployed. Got let go yesterday. Doing freelance work. Doesn’t fully pay the bills. But that’s ok. Working on a career focus shift is gonna be uncomfortable for a while. Just hope this economy doesn’t go further underwater and inflation doesn’t go even higher while I’m in the grind.3

33 hours
My shift (9h, afternoon-evening) + a shift I had promised to cover for someone (9h, evening-morning) + a day full of lectures (seminars) (morning-afternoon)+my shift (9h, afternoon-evening).
I know that the lectures do not account for "working", but it definitely wasn't "resting" either. Hadn't time to sleep or eat at any point. I think I didn't even drive back home after the last shift - took the bus, because at that point I couldn't even remember where I left my car... And I don't remember getting out of the bus at my stop. No clue how I got to my home/bed. I must've ridden the bus standing to stay awake -
Insomnia = developer problems. My body clock is broken because of graveyard shifts. I don't like night shift. It is killing my body. Weekends no work should be night shift too.1

I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION.
i need advice.
is it better that i study during the day for college until 12pm (midnight) and then work on my own project from 12pm till 4-5am, go to sleep and wake up around 9-10am so thats 4-7h of sleep each day. the only exception would be tuesday bc i gotta wake up for college at 6am.
so i would be working on my project 6 days for about 4-5h per week.
i plan to do this for 2 months.
so: day shift - college study
night shift - my work
please help me organize my time.
now, im thinking about long term effects on this. its going to be pain. but i am in pain each day so i no longer feel pain. i will be exhausted as fuck. i am fully conscious of what is awaiting for me if i decide to do this.
here is my question. am i going to get a burnout from this? am i going to look physically different in 2 months (in a bad way)? am i going to be mentally worse? am i going to get really skinny? this would basically be a work of 19-20h for 6 days per week for 2 months. that is approximately 114-120h work week minus tuesday.
i have to be mentally equipped for this so i plan to do home workouts in night shift session in order to prevent burnouts. I'll do walks/jogs too in day shift for mental cooldowns. the most important thing for me is NOT TO GET A BURNOUT AT ALL COSTS DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
i need serious advice on how to do this right AND AVOID BURNOUTS AT ALL COST.
i MUST stay operational mentally for the next 2 months.
please list the things i should DO and NOT do so this can be achievable.13 -

Since JavaScript is so widely used, do you think the market will continue to adopt JavaScript into everything for the next, say, 25 years, or will the market eventually have some catastrophic shift towards other technologies, placing JS back in the passenger seat?
Personally I love JS for some solutions but prefer using a diverse array of technologies for different tasks4 -

There's a rumour that they are gonna stop frontend and shift us to backend which is done in Java.
I don't like Java at all. I find myself mostly interested in frontend technologies. Also, just recently started learning Angular2 and I'm liking it.
I know what i should do, but just to confirm my judgement..
Any reason why i should stay and try to work in backend here instead of moving to another company as frontend dev?1 -

In recent years there has been a massive shift in dev positions and their responsibilities. At least in all the companies, I've worked with.
Interns are now treated like Juniors.
Juniors are now treated like Mids.
Mids are now treated like Seniors.
Seniors are now treated like Architects.
I think some devs(now seniors) forgot how much easier it was to get into this field years ago and how little they had to know to start.
Sad reality.4 -
Completely forgot to update what was going on with my potential role shift. Long story short, it was approved by the damagement. That’s nice.
I only have to get to a major milestone in my current giant of an IaC project and transfer enough knowledge to leave it in my current team mates’ hands. Looks like we’ll be there pretty much next week and I can switch at the start of 2023. Life’s good.1 -
Today marks the 2 years of my night shift. It appears it would take another 2 years to settle in the day shift.
This change of shift doesn't suit me at all. I sleep at working hours and stay awake all night.
What do I do?2 -
Many of you commented on my previous rant regarding my first ever freelance gig that I would definitely be back with even more to rant... here I am.
What was supposedly a 1 to 1.5 month long project became one that is stretching beyond 3, if lucky, else 4 months long. Requirements and scope evolving more complex and with variations more intense than pokemon evolutions.
I fucked up. I signed a contract that nobody would have. I didn't plan or protect my ass enough to prevent such shit from happening. I severely underestimated and hence under quoted. This is one of the nightmare situations a freelancer could be in (in my opinion). I mean it could only get better... Right? I'm preparing myself for one hell of a payment at the end of the project. Brace yourself, payment is hopefully coming as fast as the number of seasons it took for winter to come in GoT.
On the bright side, I'm currently working on a new project with a client that is indeed much much better than this first. I mean he is a nice person and communications thus far has been nothing short of great.
I guess it's good to start with your expectations rock bottom, that way nothing else can be worse, I hope. -

Coding on a German keyboard suddenly gives you a reason to like those indentation-based languages without curly braces. And what about backticks and single quotes, they're for sure easier to find on an American ASCII keyboard. Fücking ümläüt chäräctersß!

I’m worried my manager denies me my role shift because I’m supposedly an invaluable asset to our small team, even though the request has been approved by the higher ups already. I would totally understand, tbh, but it’d suck nonetheless.
I don’t consider myself ambitious, but I’d like to move forward, not just run in place.5 -

Do you think that program with keyboard & mouse is faster than using a laptop keyboard & touchpad?
At least in my case having no BlockNum and bad distribution of navigation keys, plus the need to use the [Fn] hotkey:
[Shiftl] + [Fn] + [Home|End], just imagine when you have to do [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Fn] + [Home|End].
Mouse is faster and more accurate than touchpad6 -

Some interesting keyboard shortcuts that are lesser-known but can be quite useful:
1.Windows Key + . (Period): In Windows 10 and later versions, this shortcut opens the emoji panel, allowing you to quickly insert emojis into your text.
2.Ctrl + Shift + T: This shortcut reopens the last closed tab in most web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). It's handy if you accidentally close a tab and want to retrieve it quickly.
3.Ctrl + Backtick (`): In some text editors and IDEs (like Visual Studio Code), this shortcut toggles the integrated terminal window, allowing you to quickly switch between editing and running commands.
4.Ctrl + Shift + Esc: This directly opens the Task Manager in Windows, skipping the intermediary step of opening Ctrl + Alt + Delete and selecting Task Manager.
5.Alt + Drag: In many graphics and design applications (like Photoshop), holding down the Alt key while dragging an object duplicates it. This can save time compared to copying and pasting.
6.Ctrl + Alt + D: This shortcut shows the desktop on Windows, minimizing all open windows to quickly access icons and shortcuts on your desktop.
7.Ctrl + Shift + N: In most web browsers, this shortcut opens a new incognito or private browsing window, useful for browsing without saving history or cookies.
8.Alt + Enter: In Excel, this shortcut opens the Format Cells dialog box for the selected cell or range, allowing quick formatting changes without navigating through menus.
9.Shift + F10: This shortcut performs a right-click action on the selected item or text, useful when you can't or don't want to use the mouse.
10.Ctrl + Shift + V: In many applications, including Google Chrome and Microsoft Word, this shortcut pastes text without formatting (paste as plain text). It's useful when copying text from websites or other documents.

I don't understand why windows can't just start deleting files instead of indexing (or discovering) them first (besides being windows). Is there any technical reason behind this or is it just bad design?
When I do shift+delete on like 200k files (I'm looking at you nodejs) just "discovering" those files takes like 5 minutes. Wouldn't it be faster if it stars deleting immediately after finding disk location of first file?9 -
This morning at 5:30 AM I was awoken to 20 text alerts for services being down.
Seems they had been down since 2 AM but the previous shift didn't take action.
Long story short:
An outsourced common component is unavailable, and the team responsible doesn't know how to troubleshoot.
I pointed them to the exact issue.
We are now 10 hours into the outage and they still don't know what to do. -
Older lady designer with 2 huge Apple monitors asking me to change a color on the UI or left shift list elements. That's not too bad, right. NOOOOO. All of those request asked individually in a timespan of 4 weeks. I was assigned to do just that and nothing else. Damn I was bored...I was not allowed to help other teams or even my own team members officially. Finally my boss called me up for another project. SALVATION !!!
PS. That project got cancelled. No suprise there. -
Writing in cammelCase [or snake_case] means I have to press SHIFT quite frequently. Aaaaand now I have a sore pinky from pressing that right Shift all the time.

Also heard of the student's elbow syndrome.
Is Shifting Pinky syndrome something we, developers, should call a thing? :)12 -

The word "shift" in reference to a workday should NEVER be used in a dev environment. There is noservice that needs to constantly be maintained, thats what customer support is for. A shift gives the mentality that you have a set time that you are responsible for a service.
Devs are responsible for finishing a product on a deadline; that is not a shift, that is a fucking workday. I especially hate it when managers refer to them as shifts, because it shows just how little they understand what the devs are doing. They think of bug fixes like they think of flipping burgers; a task that performs a service. It's not a service, stop acting like it is.13 -
I just hand to share this.
Got back from shift, currently 12 am.
Trying to cook rib eye. Went to grab skillet, accidently over a open flame. Heard a crackle and felt some heat.
Looked at forearm and I noticed that some of my arm hair was missing. It freakin burnt off and I could smell like something had burnt.
Wtf. I'm okay though. Just couldn't stop smiling. 😅
I didn't feel any pain though so just glad11 -
While showing the rest service demo a senior 10+ years dev ran into session issues in chrome. I asked him to open private/incognito. He opened ie,edge, closed all chrome, tried back, nothing. Had no clue whatsoever.
At last I asked him to do ctrl shift n in chrome & dark chrome opened up where he could use the test accounts to validate the bugs. He is still confused what happened4 -

Well fuck Amazon. I am trying to get into my account because for some fucking reason they say my payment method is faulty while they actually write off the subscription of prime of it. But to get into my account I need to login again with 2FA as I have that turned it on. So far so good. But since it's an old phone number I can't login. Well just change the phone number wouldn't you think? Well yes but to change the phone number I need to login in with the old phone number to which I have no longer access 🤦♂️. Eventually found a phone number I could call. I get a lovely lady on the phone which guides me to resetting my password but for that, you guessed it, I need to do the 2FA again. I get send through to the next person as she can't change it for me because of privacy reasons (oh well). That guy first askes the last 4 numbers of my creditcard like 5 times because he can't remember it (write it the fuck down then asshole) then he starts mistaking the 6 for 9 (like how the fuck do you do that) and then the text messages don't come in while I am on the phone with him which he tries to blame to my service provider because they would block Amazon (like why would they do that?). But since I got a text message of them 15 min before I shot that down quickly. Then he finally admitted that they might have a disruption going on. So I think we'll fine I'll just ask my question to him how it's possible that Prime stops working as I am watching it because my payment method is faulty according to them (but manage to write off the subscription) and he starts talking just shit. Just admit that you don't know and connect me to someone who does know how that can happen. In the the end I just hung up because I knew I wasn't getting anywhere with this guy and don't you know it, as I start writing this the text messages come in. Problem solved you would say just out that number in the website and you can change your phone number. Well no because I have to tell the number to the guy who I hung up with because the texts weren't coming in 😒. Now I should call them back but I think I'll wait till tomorrow hopefully the day shift will be a bit more knowledgeable on how shit works and can actually remember 4 digits.2

I simplified 7 functions down to a blob because it was truly unreadable and fragmented. As I did it, I thought there was no way I did it right. This can't be the logic. Nope. It is.

I programmed a "crypographic" tool in python as my first application. It calculated the checksum of the entered password and preformed this cesa-shift-crappy-crypto thing. Programming lesson #8
Nowadays I write tasks for the next day at the end of my shift in the sticky notes app.
That way it's easier to start off for the next day without trying to remember what tasks were remaining from the previous day.
If tasks are greater in number then it's good to go for external task tracking tools. But for me keeping track of just 2-3 tasks is easier by using simple sticky notes app.2 -

I was working at a restaurant and picked up a couple shifts notrealizing they were all on the same day. Started at 5:30 am as the opener, orked my normal 3-close shift and left at 7am the next day after doing after doing the night cleaning job. -

Site has been in staging for 2 weeks and very few bugs and changes have been submited... Day before luanch don't even know where to start with so many change requests!!!
Every freaking time...
Worst part is that the live date cannot shift.1 -
FUUUUUUUCK
Got shit copying in the background whilst copying files, installation decides to just restart explorer.exe, because you know, it just can. So the copy cancels half way through, so i delete all the half copied shit and accidently highlight the Program Files folder too... and I Shift+DEL 😠 FML -
TIL when shortcuts say "Mayús" (like, "Ctrl. + Mayús + I") in Spanish, it is not actually "Bloq. Mayús" (Caps Lock) but Shift.
I don't know which one is weirder, if the fact itself or the fact that I discovered it after more than 15 years using computers in Spanish. And shortcuts.1 -
Arch Linux or Ubuntu? 🤔
Currently on an Ubuntu system at my workplace, but I've heard a lot about arch Linux. Is it worth making the shift?8 -
We are legion, the legion of galley slaves inside the hold of the bit machinery, who insult themselves as code monkeys as if we were hitting our keyboards until we get Shakespeare or something compilable, while it is us, the anonymous mass of developers that shift the bits such that the Gates and gatekeepers on deck can present the working code or content monstrosity, while we in the engine room looking at the source don't understand how anything could be working.2

I'm starting to feel pain in my little finger from using Control and Shift so much. I should change my keyboard at work, but it feels a little overkill to bring a 1.3kg RGB back-lit mechanical keyboard to work...1
-
Anyone else that visualizes how you press "Ctrl+A", "Shift+Delete", "Enter" (since the yes-button is pre-selected) before you go to sleep to delete all the thoughts running through your head?2

Merry Christmas! Finally got my 60% keyboard, so it's time to get back to practicing nvim. Already getting better at using hjkl since I don't have any arrow keys.
Only thing that's a bit of a bummer is the ~ key is Shift + Fn + Esc. Oh well, I only use that one maybe a few times a day anyways especially since the only Linux I use is WSL.4 -
When driving changes knowing when to shift from tech to people and vice versa. Beyond that, knowing when to shift between people and when to shift between tech.

Slave labour.
I work in software testing and I hate it. Also my job is full of Indians and while I am not racist, I just hate working with them, bunch of soulless robots. I mean I guess I should be grateful that I am not overly stressed or jobless during those difficult times but there's 0 passion in what I do and seems like most companies are not happy about my career shift since I'm not getting hired anywhere else.19 -
How to do you guys take a 'shift' in your profile when working as a developer for some company?
Like if you are a web dev guy and want to get into native android dev or vice versa or start building apps for ios or getting into a complete different role of manager, dba, sysadmin or hr, or whatever there are profiles in a company?
Would your company allow you to take some 3-4 months course or would you do that i your spare time?7 -
(Disclaimer: Normaly a Java guy)Dipping my toes into JavaScript Waters... Want to write an that generates shift plans. I'm working in the Domain Model and go wtf like every 5 minutes...

Just discovered this in visual studio:
shift + alt + ; (select all instances)
shift + alt + . (select next instance)
Better multi-line editing, here we come!2 -
You know there's something seriously wrong with a "framework" when it takes 20 minutes to figure out how to SHIFT A BUTTON INSIDE A HEADER.
Fuck you jQuery Mobile. I wish you had never been born.

Helping out of goodwill with the time I have only to receive nothing but terrible attitude.
I know it can get frustrating but don't throw that frustration on me. Especially when I'm genuinely helping out and going out of the way to do so. -
It is so frustrating that browsers had to keep the open developer tools as Ctrl+shift + C.I work with a ton of terminals and lot of browser tabs and when I try to copy text , I automatically type Ctrl + shift + C and boom , the developer tools opens up.I know we could change the key bindings but who the hell kept the "open developer tools " shortcut as Ctrl + Shift + C.That is a serious flaw!!! Fucking hate it..

TryShift.com - I got this app hoping to consolidate my gmail accounts into a single place. I've been using it for months (maybe a year now) and I just can't see why anymore lol.
1) It logs me out every week or so and dashlane can't autofill my password from within the app so I have to go copy-paste it.
2) The app is basically just a browser
3) There are bugs and one of them just started with the only feature worth using the app for (unread email count in the mac osx dock)
4) The app blocks my macbook from restarting
5) The app won't update when I click "Update & Restart". I have to quit it manually and often it still won't update when I open it again.
UGH! Just uninstalled, opened both my gmail accounts in chrome, and sighed from relief.9 -
Why do I feel like the keys on my keyboard change places whenever I change my IDE?
Whenever I switch from Eclipse to Vim, I need to spend like 30 min getting use to the "new" key arrangement and to stop hitting "z" instead of "shift".1 -
installing nircmd and psexec. closing processes, muting the sound and opening/closing the cdrom tray of a colleague can be funny, especially during the night shift.
-
@dfox
just realized devrant doesn't have shortcuts, like twitter has, "n" for new tweet. and which you can see the list of pressing "shift" + "/".
that's would come in pretty handy for developers i guess.
(though even i think, most people do not need it.)5 -
This SwiftUI is the best thing since sliced bread. It makes my development time faster and the clients happier. There are some weird things that can get frustrating, but I like where this entire paradigm shift is going.
Why was I so hesitant to adapt to newer techs? I became stagnant for the last 3-5 years. I will rise again.4 -
Any web developer from Canada? Thinking to shift there next year... Just wanted to know the work culture and opportunities there..

-> improve a system
-> the system now has a >95% success rate (before it's only 70-80%)
-> business people still complaining about error (even tho it's relatively way smaller) :/1 -
So my boss offers a job which is night shift and my pay will be slightly increased too. But I would be sleep deprived then :(7

Need to ask you all something. Probably a crazy question lol. But I wanna get into Networking. . Plan on taking Network Plus in less than 2 months. Got an interview tomorrow for NOC engineer position . But I currently work in Help Desk Tier 1. Second Shift. This NOC is first shift..... now here's the kicker. I need a second job. Either another full or part. I have 6 years experience at Refrigeration Tech. Which I wanted to leave for IT. I have also a trial day for a Refrigeration company tomorrow as well. First Shift hours as well. So I'm like.... well damn. Do I not go to that job and just hope I get this NOC position . Because Networking is right with where I see myself being1

I know there's a bunch of different clipboard enhancers out there, I just want a shortcut to view what I last copied/cut so I know if I need it before I copy/cut the next thing.

Graveyard shift sucks. I'm a morning person. My body clock is broken. I still can't sleep. Damn. Perks of being a high paid slave living in a rat race 🤷♂️
I just read that snickers can make you fall asleep. Will eat one now. Wish me luck guys.1 -
I *hate* cmd+z in Atlassian Wikis… it removes text that was written ages ago… and you never get it back… no matter how many times you press cmd+shift+z or cmd+y… 😡

Made to write an electron app as a make-shift solution to restart a service running on a raspberry pi that was deployed as a make-shift solution to another problem

Anyone move from web development (Angular, Java) to iOS development? If so, can you please let me know what I should expect in terms of work difference, difficulty of projects and overall general development work flow when one makes the shift?6
-
I hate the fact that it's not possible to find a keyboard with an ANSI left shift button and an ISO enter button. Well okay it kinda is, the JIS layout, but fuuuuuuck having a small backspace button as well.3

Does anyone know what learning path or courses to take if I wanted to train for Devops role using LinuxAcademy? Or does anyone have a roadmap as to what I should learn (in LinuxAcademy and outside) before I can start applying to companies? Currently a developer with ~2 yrs of experience and looking to shift.
-
!rant Learned from an online course that you can use Chrome Snippets (JS) to run your own code as an entire file rather than writing it all in console (which only supports line by line unless you do shift + enter).
I had seen this before but I wasn't fully aware of it.1 -
I am a front-end developer with 2 years of experience and I want to shift over to devops role. How can I get started and what are my chances to interview for any devops role especially since I haven't worked as one or as a sysadmin? Any help is greatly appreciated.1

Obviously ai and autodocument recognition and data extraction is not usable yet
Excepting when it's a pdf not a scanned document or image
Ocr may be but shift the whole.image or bend it or remove a border from some white out
And then handwritten -

Insert ?? Sorry Read only mode ... -
How do I deal with a lead who was hired to lead a predominantly backend team when he's just an average frontend dev. He's so afraid to try new tech and so reluctant to learn. Plus most of the junior developers are better than him. He even tries to shift the blame on other devs. It's so hard to deal with the guy. Our old lead was so much better the guy was a really bad hire zzzzz.1

Is there any way to sort an array in such a way that picking 3 numbers a,b,c randomly from the array and performing a cyclic right shift then place them back in the array??10

Rest In Peace my Hermes E2 mechanical keyboard. I have been using it for about 4 year and today the shift key on the left side of the keyboard broke.
I think the shift key is physically broken since I already try to clean the keyboard but it isn't working anymore.
The keyboard should still be workable for normal user but programming with that keyboard is a hell.
You only notice how much left shift key is important for programming when you try to program with alternative (right shift key)15 -
Engineering days: Wasting the entire semester and studying a few days before exams
Post Engineering days: Wasting the entire day and working just a few hours before the shift ends
Happy Engineers Day everyone😄
