I fucking love my parents.
Came to visit them again and told them that I might buy an iPhone in the future (I fucking hate apple/i-devices and they know that).
Mom: "You are going to WHAT? Are you okay, son?"
Dad: *walks towards me and puts hand on forehead* "Hmmm, doesn't seem to be that warm. Maybe we should visit a psychiatrist soon."
Me: 😂. mom, dad, I fucking love you.52 -

The moment when you have to cancel your day's plans on a Sunday of not going out for the "totally not a demand" style of asking to visit an aunt that you really don't like being around because of her habitual "all your choices suck and you must do as I please" attitude -_- Dysfunctional family at its best.

Had an interest in IT security some time ago, so I downloaded some tools to experiment a little and research to get some first hand experience since a lot of the course material we have at work is too vague....
Guess who got a visit from the police 👮

Apparantly, wanting to use company assets for a smoke machine so when clients visit you can say "Welcome to the cloud!" is immature.3
-
First rant.
Managing an app in Canada, came back home to Thailand to visit my parents.
No deployments while you're gone, just bug fixes, boss said.
Landed at 3am, "hey I know we only support desktop but we got new customers only on iPad, make it responsive in a day and deploy." Wtf.
Haven't even seen my parents. In Starbucks.15 -
When you want to visit a website with tons of ads and this pops up. Am I the only one who visits Dev Tools then?12

Last Friday some company invited my project group (I am studying IT) to visit their offices.
After a little speech, they shew us the open spaces (dont feed the developers ;) ). After a few minutes, someone told me :
- "It's a fake, they are not true devs"
-"Why ?"
-" Seriously, who uses light theme to code?"7 -
She: "Better not visit devRant for the next.. weeks"

Log into sandbox with admin account -> redirects to a different signin url -> 500s -> signin no longer works.

Boss: Can you modify the prototype, so that I can show it off to the customers who will visit?
Me: Sure, when do you need it?
Boss: In two hours.
Lesson learned: Always have a branch in your git with a working demo.7 -
When you visit your mom's and she made coffee
*sip*
What is this? Water? Why can't I feel the tingling of the caffeine fighting my fatigue?
*sip*
This can't be coffee, my vision is still not starting to blur!2 -
Dear fucktards with cookie notifications.
Give me a damn button of just “NO, I don’t agree”
Ain’t nobody got time to unstick 500 check boxes every single visit, surely theres no good or useful reason of some of these sites having more cookies then words on their home pages.14 -
I was sad so i decided to visit the last place me and my best friend visited. Now I feel even more sad thinking about the times we had.9

I'm curious to know how popular DevRant actually is, like how many total users there are, how many rants there are in total, how many users visit the app/site on a daily basis, any chance on this info dfox?13

I went on vacation in Norway. And it's mandatory to visit viking ship museum if you are in Oslo. At the of the exhibition I came to souvenir shop. AND WHAT I SAW WAS MAGNIFICENT!
There was whole army of ruber duck vikings.
I thought of buying one but I didn't have a heart to replace my police officer McDucky.1 -

The other day when I visited a local cafe, I noticed that the bartender's jukebox PC type of thing has Windows XP on it. Not sure if I should visit that cafe any more 🤔12

The more I visit a wide range of sites, the more I hate obnoxious cookie policy pop ups. The ones that take 2/3 are UN-FUCKING-NECESSARY.
Web devs that make them like this can you please tell me why?12 -
Sitting here, completely forgotten about my http://jsrant.com project. Found it back in google analytics. Turns out people actually visit it!
Awesome! :D8 -
Over 6000 rants since my last visit! And the app looks quite different upon my return... Vacation is not *just* a good thing :s5

Our prof told us today in a zoom lecture: "Never visit b-ok.org, it is totally illegal", with emphasis on how he would NEVER recommend to visit that website for free education illegally.
I guess he is totally against the idea of pirating educational material15 -
So the school I visit blocks TeamViewer in their network for the reason that you could bring in malicious stuff.
They happily allow USB sticks though so that doesn't seem right.
Whatever, I used AnyDesk to get stuff from my PC at home (and I never got caught, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to ever use a school's computer again).1 -
Wife and I went to visit her grandparents and when we were at the hotel she would watch lifetime and i would code.
As for Christmas, there's nothing else to do in this town so why not code.6 -
I came to visit my mum for Christmas, and my days are all about changing ringtones and showing her how to change volume on her phone. The worst is that she doesn't even try, it's just easier to ask me. Fun times.2

IT is currently putting on a giant presentation at the corporate offices telling them that our development team builds all of our apps using MS PowerApps and that all of our internal development is done using no code tools…what fucking planet did they visit to come to that conclusion??6

This has been a great year for me programing wise. Learned Go, got my first job working in it.
Not so much for my health. My six year old neighbor came to visit and I guess you could say the mother freaked out. We were just playing in the pool when the police shot me.2 -
PSA:
Just started using Firefox nightly. It has an add on called "super dark mode" that automatically converts ANY site you visit to a dark theme.
#How the fuck did I use Chrome till now.3 -
Designer: "And you know what we could do? We could make all the information be available anywhere the client wants. It's all in the cloud!"
PM: "Yeah! That's brilliant!" (High fives all around)
That's one day after a visit to a client saying they cannot rely on their internet connection. -
1. Visit the official site.
2. Browse for official tools.
3. Check the official documentation.
4. Check the Internet for other non-audiovisual sources.
5. Try making a simple application.
6. Run out of application ideas.
7. Move on to the next shiny dev technology.
8. Go to step #1. -
Is it just me or every other back end dev that has this weird habit of trying to guess the back end used in every website you visit ?5
-
Few months back, one of my good but non-dev friend came to visit me.
He: I've done a website in HTML. Can you help me make it responsive.
Without a second thought, I agreed.
*Opened the file in editor*
<tables> <tables> <tables> <tables>
I kicked him out of my house without a second thought.3 -

Q: What's a "muscle memory"?
A: It's when you open up devRant, skim through several posts, get bored, decide to visit some other website for more stimulation, close the tab with devRant, open a new tab and your hands type in devrant.com [ENTER] before you know it4 -

Is every fucking government website in the world designed as if only half-dead soul sucked people with infinite time and dedication to decipher the jumble will visit them, or is it just exclusive to India?
Seriously, shell out a few more bucks to your wed-designers. Will save you years worth of frustrated users's curses.. 😡😡7 -
I like the open exclusive-ness trait that DevRant has.
It's technically open for anyone to join, but only a certain type of people will visit on a regular basis, giving this platform a sense of exclusivity.6 -
Websites that show a notification dot the first time I visit with zero interaction from my end: I hope you die. This is terrible exploitation of UX, and unless I really need something, I'm leaving the site within seconds.2
-
When the madness known as "software development" gets me down, I visit DevRant to complain and read about people who have it harder than me.
I just wanted to offer my condolences... Ya'll are so much more fucked than I am. 👍2 -
Google collects more data than I could imagine.
So i read an article a few days ago and it absolutely blew me off. It mentioned how google collects your personal data and makes it available to you as well (just to rub it in your face I guess). E.g
1. Visit https://google.com/maps/timeline/ : Collects exactly what it says.
2. Visit https://myactivity.google.com/ :
These people collect everything on your device(at least android)!!!!! Even the time spent on home screen! WTF!!!
3. Visit https://takeout.google.com/ : To download your data archive. Ranges from Google photos to Hangouts and everything in between.
-> All the above require signing in with your gmail account.
So basically, if someone manages to get a hold of your gmail password, they have the power to know everything about you.
Aaaahhhhhhh. Ridiculous.9 -
As someone who used to be a full-time Dev, but now works in other areas that sometimes don't quite scratch that tech itch, I find that each visit to Deviant inspires me more and more to work on personal Dev projects. Don't know how or why, but it just does. Go DevRant!3

Worked for a party supply chain on their e-commerce solution for less than minimum wage and was overworked.

Time to visit the portal and login 😒6 -
Probably the worst security I've ever seen is a website I used to visit that had their "Forgot your password?" system change the password of the account to the user's username and didn't even send an email confirmation before doing it.3
-
Well, my client likes the sailboat picture that I put up on his site as the hero area.
Now he wants to know if I can animate the water and put the sounds of waves and seagulls in the background.
I can, but fuck you. I won't. I have respect for the people that visit your site.6 -

I'd really fucking love if somebody developed a browser plugin which puts a red fucking glowing banner over every website which sends data to PRISM.
Users deserve to know what cunty sell-out crapsites they visit.10 -

Had to visit another town yesterday for a business meeting. Left my house at 6am and got back this morning 3am. The meeting itself was an hour or 90mins max. The rest was on the vehicle. A bloody waste of time and a toll on my body, I would say. Tired mind with a backache. And I am not even 30 yet. Geeez.6

Have higher technical schools with computer science as one of their topics (such as the one I visit) introduce people to how RAM works in detail earlier than in fourth grade, which would really help some of my classmates.2

Building a production-ready app from scratch during a two-week visit to the overseas client. Built it in one only to hear "you make things look too easy". The app never saw the light of day.2

Why tf yall trashing w3schools and praising mdn? When I forget the syntax I just ignore the mdn and go straight to w3schools, the information there is more condensed, more like a cheatsheet. Also their online editor is far quicker than any codepen hipster garbage you endorse
If I need spec I visit the fucking spec, not mdn21 -

I deleted a porn video I had and now I've been trying to find it on a site I visit regularly for the past week with no real guarantee that it'll even be there.
I mean, a book is understandable, but a frickin' porn video?
Save me from this procrastination guys.16 -
Well, sure it’s nice to take a break from coding and visit some historical town. Here’s Cracow (Kraków) from today

My baby sister told me she wanted to learn how to code, her reason being; she visited a startup incubation center at her school, my alma mater, and she thought they looked so cool and collected.
Hahaha! I told her to try visit when they are having a deployment or when someone's code is just not working.1 -

Everything that's rant worthy is essentially my fault.7 -

-
I had a ticket to enhance the loading of a page.
So instead of doing 40K requests to a MySQL DB in order to generate a tree and display it to to the user on each page visit, the initial query was optimized and moreover, the results are saved in a MongoDB which will then are served to the user on each page visit.
Long story short, after a code review the code got shipped to production and there was a bug which got fixed in a Hotfix shortly afterwards.
I got all the blame for the bug.
I don't deny I have a responsibility for the bug.
Do you guys think the code reviewer also has a shared responsibility for the bug?4 -
One of my most inspirational places to create devRant rants! I visit it every week. For a Sunday fun experiment I will gift the first person to guess where it is a devRant 'devie' stress ball or t-shirt. You must provide specific details. We can figure out prize logistic details thru @dfox. There are hints in the image 😀 Enjoy!16

Two sites I visit the most now are devRant and Dev.to.
Sites I don’t visit anymore because of obvious reasons:
1. StackOverflow (bunch of pompous retards who think they know the answers to life and 1 + 1 = 2.
2. Programming subreddit (pretty much boring now tbh)
What other places do you fine people visit when not angry with your bosses or the rest of the world that isn’t the devRant community?2 -

In our application we now need the possibility to add visit hours to addresses. Each day has 3 possible visit moments with a from and to hour and some indicator, and a comment, like this:
monday_visit_from_1, monday_visit_to_1, monday_visit_ind_1, (repeat for 2 and 3), monday_visit_comment (repeat for all 7 days)
For "performance" they (db admin) decided to add all the fields of all the days as separate columns in the address table, 70 in total.
Besides being a horrible design it is a fucking pain to work with, like find if an address can be visited on a given day and time we need to check a subset of columns based on the day and the 3 moments in this day.
Is this really more performant than an extra table to hold the visit moments and is this something that gets done in more places?1 -

I hate when I visit a new web framework's site and see documentation that promotes HTML tags like this:
<input type='text' name='foo' value='{{val}}' />
If you don't know enough about which quotes you should use and why... I have no faith in the quality of your software solution. -

My browser claims it's unsafe to visit a website via HTTP, even if it's only to view and read. But it's fine to open any crapsite as long as it's via HTTPS and not on a malware blocklist?2

Hey, I have a quick question for developers in Barcelona. For out study association, we're trying to organize a week long trip, in which we want to visit some companies. But we're having a bit of a hard time finding interesting companies, so if you are (or know) someone at a tech-company in Barcelona, I'd love to get in touch.1

Its very simple to get PMs to leave you alone; have a good long talk with them about their goals, motivations, and methods. Try to understand their thinking, then preempt the visit to your desk with something to make them not come to your desk.
Or get a WFH deal and dont answer any comm requests. -
