A few years ago when I was still an apple fan boy, friend of mine bragging me about how android is awesome, we were drinking some shots at our local pub and I was starting to get light headed. At one point he showed me so called "terminal emulator" app. I checked it out, and assumed it's an emulation, just like dosbox, so I decided to verify that "rm -rf *"... (the phone was rooted)
The phone shutdown within seconds, I couldn't stop laughing, while my friend was shock that his new phone was longer booting.
Luckily he managed to reflash the ROM. What can I learn from that experience?
1. Don't drink and sudo
2. Don't call your app an emulator if it's the real deal.34 -

I was today years old when I figured this.
Whoever named the app and designed the logo is an absolute fucking genius.10 -
New phone rom doesn't allow bloatware app removal, even at root level.
Root file manager -> /system/app -> remove whole 'uninstallable app's' whole fucking folder -> reboot -> device still works well.
Problem solved.26 -
I dont know why..But i laughed for 5 minutes after seeing the last comment . Maybe personal experience..6

Me: "Sigh... Ok, I'll setup it for you..."7 -

About 20ish years ago I was working in IT, and it was about around this time where CD-Roms were hitting the stores and becoming the newest craze. However, Microsoft did not write the drivers correctly for this new hardware.
In a nutshell, the driver would be installed and the user would lose the sound to their speaker.
How did this happen? By altering the way the interrupts worked on the computer. At the time there only existed a few unreserved IRQs or Interrupt ReQuests. The installer package would redirect IRQ 5 which is "User Selectable (Sound Cards)" to work with the CD-Rom. This was fine and all unless you wanted to listen to your speakers.
I had come up with a clever hack through rewriting a config file that would be run during bootup. So at the time of boot up IRQ 5 would be dedicated to the sound card, and IRQ7 (which was usually for the Lpt1 Printer) would be dedicated to the CD-Rom. This worked.
And because I was IT at the time, I would get a lot of calls for fixing this problem.
So, as you can imagine, I've gotten **really** good at doing this. I didn't even need to be at a computer to walk someone through the problem.
I receive a call one day, it was a problem with the CD-Rom and sound card. I walk him through the problem and he reboots his computer. I could hear him on the other side jumping with joy when he was able to put in his music CD and hear sound coming from the speakers.
He asks me, how in the hell did you figure this out!? You're a fucking Genius!
And I said, It's not rocket science it's just a computer.
There was a long pause of silence.
Uhhh... Hello? Did I say something wrong?
Sir, I work at NASA I deal with Rocket Science on a daily basis.4 -
Decided to try and remove everything google from my phone by using a root app uninstaller since my phone runs the stock rom.
Thought it would break my phone and was preparing for a recovery flash...
I now run a stock rom without anything Google 😍
Even signal works fine with a background websocket connection.

A while back a co-worker of mine fucked up by leaving some debug code and pushing to production.
He quickly repaired it, redeployed and everything was good again before the customer experienced any issues.
Later that day, management showed up by his desk to ask what happened, how it happened and stating that he was not "angry enough" about his fuck up, long after it has been repaired.
Up to this day i regret not asking in what unit of measurement we could determine if we were angry enough; decibels? gray hairs? grams of shit in my underwear?4 -
Teacher: Computer settings are stored in the ROM on the motherboard.
Me: *internally* Uhm, yea, sure... and I am the pope
Me: Sorry to interrupt you but how come the BIOS settings get reset when the CMOS battery is pulled out or dies if they are stored in ROM?
Teacher: ....
Me: *internally* yea, that's what I thought, you have no clue what you are even saying - the BIOS is stored in ROM or flash memory while the settings are stored in NVRAM also called CMOS memory...10 -

After a little I'm having huge issues with my new phone. No custom ROMs available.
Fuck this shit I'm going to try to port another Mediatek based ROM to my phone tonight.

I don't think that not being able to remove Google services from my phone because this phone isn't supported by open source roms is a valid excuse anymore, especially since the new dutch surveillance law goes into plan the 1st of May.
I don't have that much money but I can afford this second hand device right now so let's do this.

I found this old micro controller: The TMS 1000 (from 1974). The specs: 100-400kHz clock speed, 4-bit architecture, 1kB ROM and 32 bytes (!) RAM. According to data sheet, you sent the program to TI and they gave you a programmed controller back - updates to the once upload program were impossible, but an external memory chip was possible.
I'm glad we have computers with more processing power and storage (and other languages than assembler) - on the other hand it enforced good debugging before deployment and and efficient code.

My third board, and the first that won't go to the trash.
Question. With the baterry off the motor continues spinning with the 5v from arduino.
My question is, is the L293D suposed to do that? Or do I have a short circuit somewhere that is giving power to the motor? Meaning it can burn the arduino.
Runs a 12v stepper from a CD-Rom driver perfectly at 5v from the arduino and actually starts to act strange when I turn the 12v on. (maby the circuit it's adding 12v + 5v?)24 -

So, I finally gave in and installed the unofficial LineageOS ROM for the Google Pixel on my phone. I got tired of waiting for the official ROM. It was quite an adventure. I have to say the most time-consuming part of the whole process was getting my bootloader unlocked (because my Pixel came from Verizon.) I did have a little adventure after the installation though. I opened the devRant app for the first time and was instantly blinded by the default light theme.
TL;DR I now have LineageOS running on my Google Pixel, and I'm quite happy about it.2 -

I read this in stackoverflow today:
Welcome to every C/C++ programmers bestest friend: Undefined Behavior.
There is a lot that is not specified by the language standard, for a variety of reasons. This is one of them.
In general, whenever you encounter undefined behavior, anything might happen. The application may crash, it may freeze, it may eject your CD-ROM drive or make demons come out of your nose. It may format your harddrive or email all your porn to your grandmother.

So my wife bought a really old android tablet (it's on gingerbread lol) so I've decided to bring it up to android pie, yes that means building a custom ROM, from scratch, for a 7 year old device. I will be documenting my progress and if I fail then at least it will be published research as the memory optimization in android pie is so much smoother now it should be good. If it fails I shall try to build android go to the device.
It's still got a 1.5ghz processor and 1gb of ram which should be fine so here's hoping.23 -
I would like to know some of you guys most used/preferred apps that you have been using it for long time or you will install them immediately after purchasing new phone/ formating/ installing custom ROM.
List them down if you feel like it, maybe some of them can be helpful to us. Here's mine list.

I think I finally found a reason to have a phone with 8GB of RAM.
So that when TWRP craps out on data decryption and decides not even to ask for a password, at least I can push a whole fucking ROM into RAM to unfuck the phone. Because why not?! Why on Earth would software work properly when you can just throw more hardware at it?
Long live FBE, TWRP what craps out on it, and you remember those things.. SD cards for data storage? I could've used an unencrypted SD card so fucking badly right now, you know... Long live soldered in storage that's encrypted, "for security". Except for when the person who owns said data actually wants to use the bloody data.

When I used Windows and I needed to flash a rom I had to download minimal adb and fastboot package to use adb and fastboot.

(Dev)Life in the past 12 hours
Oh boy have the last 12 hours been a roller coaster ride for me. Noob me decided to "compile" AoSP for my device to get a taste of how custom ROMs are built from source. Overall it was fun but the errors were a very good excercise for googling, SO. Couple stuff I learnt ( possibly useful for anyone who comes here )
* The shebang line ( #!/usr/bin/env python ) on my system translated to Python 3.7 environment instead of the expected Python 2.7. Best solution I think to avoid confusion is to create a python 2.7 environment and source it.
* Get your trees right. A jar file called WfdCommon.jar ( apparently known as wifi-display common ) was the cause of several hours of hunting the fault. My vendor tree somehow didn't have this file so dex2oat was borking out like mad. I'm still amazed how I figured this one out almost by myself. ( Basically I had to check every file included in the boot class path, and find the odd one )
* I wasted a lot of time in finding the right files to change version numbers and all. Maybe I didn't search XDA properly for a guide ?
Overall it was a fun experience. Also if anyone's experienced in this area could you share resources to learn more about custom ROM development? Specifically on the tweaking part where you mix features from different ROMs to make a great ROM ( like AoSP extended or Pixel Experience ). All I could find were on the zips and not on sources.7 -

Serious question: why all the hate on PHP?
I've been using it as my main language, and genuinely like it. Tried Java but find that to be typing a fuckload to get the same task done. Javascript is nice, but still, i prefer PHP (probably mostly because i know it).
Just really curious, what have i been missing?14 -
I use Mac in office for daily dev and tasks, and a Lubuntu laptop for Linux related jobs. My home PC runs Ubuntu. And my personal laptop has a Ubuntu-Windows dual boot. I haven't used the Windows for more than a year. Even I do most of the basic tasks in Terminal, both in Mac and Linux.
Now I need to install a custom ROM in my Android Snapdragon based phone. And all the tools I need runs in Windows only. I don't even want to open that boot partition. 😥
Any help on this? It would be better if I can get something which runs on Linux.15 -

In my free time I like to compile android ROMs for my device, and I couldn't get my favourite ROM, CarbonROM to compile, it was wining about a c file in a directory and I used a different repo, no sound after compiling but hey, at least it worked right?
Turns out there was a new commit that had messed up the compiler, and this commit was live for about 10 minutes, and I just so happened to be repo syncing at that time.

Xiaomi's bootloader unlock procedure is So. Fucking. Tedious. I have no words... oh wait, I do. HIDING THE PERMISSION BEHIND A HUNDRED DEVICE-SIDE SWITCHES WON'T MAKE IT ANY SAFER, IT WILL ONLY MAKE MODDERS ANGRY. Why do you need a third switch besides OEM unlock and USB debugging anyway? If I toggled OEM unlock it's obvious what I'm trying to do and every other option should change to comply with that intent. Don't roll your own Android if you know fuckall about UX.9

Which phones do you recommend?
Which have given you the fewest problems?
I want something with custom rom support so i can add my own problems (duh) and to make it prettier. Apart from that, the only other deal breakers are a lack of wireless charging (I have children who break everything) and an awful screen. I'm not really picky about anything else, but I do want it pretty.
Anyone have a phone like this that they actually like?17 -
I've had a Xiaomi Mi 8 for a few months now. Although I'm impressed by what I got for the amount I paid (a phone that cost about $250 for 6GB RAM, Snapdragon 845, Android 9 and premium build quality is quite a steal), it definitely comes with a consequence.
MIUI (specifically MIUI 11) is godawful. It is single-handedly the worst Android ROM I've ever used since my shitty Android 2.2 phone back around 2010. If you're gonna buy a Xiaomi phone, plan to install Lineage OS on it (but even that's a pain which I'll explain why later).
- Navigation buttons don't hide while watching a video.
Why? God only knows. The ONLY way to bypass without root this is to use its garbage fullscreen mode with gestures, which is annoying as all hell.
- 2 app info pages?
Yeah, the first one you can access just by going to its disaster of a settings app, apps, manage apps and tap on any one.
The 2nd one you can access through the app info button in any 3rd party launcher. Try this: Download Nova launcher, go to the app drawer, hold on any app and tap "app info", and you'll see the 2nd one.
Basically, instead of modifying Android's FOSS source code, they made a shitty overlay. These people are really ahead of their time.
- Can only set lock screen wallpapers using the stock Gallery app
It's not that big an issue, until it is, when whatever wallpaper app you're using only allows you to set the wallpaper and not download them. I think this is both a fuckup on Xiaomi and (insert wallpaper app name here), but why Xiaomi can't include this basic essential feature that every other Android ROM ever made has is beyond me.
- Theming on MIUI 11 is broken
Why do they even bother having a section to customize the boot animation and status bar when there's not one goddamn theme that supports it? At this point you're only changing the wallpaper and icon pack which you can do on any Android phone ever. Why even bother?
They really, REALLY want to be Apple.
Just look at their phones. They're well designed and got good specs, but they don't even care anymore about being original. The notch and lack of a headphone jack aren't features, they're tremendous fuckups by the dead rotting horse known as Apple that died when Steve Jobs did.
Xiaomi tries to build a walled garden around an inherently customizable OS, and the end result is a warzone of an Android ROM that begs for mercy from its creator. Launchers integrate horribly (Does any power user actually use anything that isn't Nova or Microsoft launcher?), 3rd party themes and customization apps need workarounds, some apps don't work at all. People buy from Xiaomi to get a high end budget Android phone at the price of some ads and data collection, not a shitter iOS wannabe.
They really, REALLY want you to have a sim card
If you don't have a sim card and you're using your phone for dev stuff, you're a 2nd class citizen to Xiaomi. Without one, you can't:
- Install adb through adb
- Write to secure settings
- Unlock your bootloader and get away from this trash Android ROM
What's the point? Are they gonna shadow ban you? Does anyone contact them to unlock their bootloader saying "yeah I wanna use a custom rom to pirate lizard porn and buy drugs"? They made this 1000000000x harder than it needs to be for no reason whatsoever. Oh yeah and you gotta wait like a week or something for them to unlock it. How they fucked up this bad is beyond me.
So yeah. Xiaomi. Great phones, atrocious OS.11 -

Finally installed a custom ROM (dirty unicorns) and added a designated devRant icon in the navigation bar because it's the only app I ever use on this phone5

after having a pretty bad experience with nougat and the android O beta on my nexus 6p I've decided to try a custom rom again. went for pure nexus and now my phone is blazzing fast again :) pretty amazed by the progress this rom made in 1 year5

Playing pokemon. I'm extremely into the series and played nearly every gen since the first ones. Even bought the cheap 2ds just to play these 3ds versions even tho i got acutally no time during exams and sometimes even played the different editions of the same gen just because i can.😅
And I have the habit to think about "how is it done?" With everything that is displayed on a screen or just blinks. And with 800 pokemon and their stats and subforms and IVs and all that nerdshit (back then compressed in such a small rom and running on pretty low end devices) i began to think about data structures, organization of them and such, especially when there are many big, wide datasets.😪3 -
So my OP6 is supposed to arrive in a few days... Hopefully and wanted some advice so I don't brick it.
I want to root and was wondering how safe it is these days.
Last time I did it was years ago for my OPO but I'm not sure how much things have changed or if anything different with Oxygen.
I'm running on TWRP, SuperSU and Lineage 14 now.
I saw some guides that suggest TWRP and Magisk (hides root better?).
https://appuals.com/how-to-root-the...
But don't plan to flash custom ROM as it seems OP now works best with Oxygen? And maybe something won't be supported in Lineage?
And will flashing recovery mess anything up... For some reason I recall OP had a stock recovery which would get overwritten?3 -
So my first computer... My dad got a Laptop somewhere around 96-97 for work as he had to travel a lot abroad. He also used to take work home and work there in the evening or on weekends. I kindof asked if I could play with it and he just opened defragmenting and I loved the animation. At least I think it had some animation. I know another computer I got later had it. However like the second or third time he left me alone with it, I decided to find something else and somehow managed to instead of defragment the hd, format it. Or atleast delete like a few folders on it. However that game was "lame", so I went out to play with a friend, as the computer wouldn't respond after some time. I've never seen him as angry as when I got home.
Long story short, me and my brother soon got our own computer, like a really " old" one the company where my aunt worked sold. It didn't had a cd rom drive, just a 3.5 and a bigger drive. My dad later took the big tape out and replaced it with a cd rom drive. It ran win95 I think. And we later upgraded it to 982 -
out of curiosity, what phone do you have? 📱
I myself have a One plus one, first generation (w/ cyanogen logo on the back), won via a Python script that I wrote 😎 I also use the TugaPower ROM 🇵🇹22 -
Why the fuck is it so hard to find a proper guide on porting a custom rom(LineageOS) to a device?!1
-
Is there some basic guide to privacy for (android) phones?
Like where you flash some secure ROM, get timely updates , no gapps or privacy threatening app, use secure services and alternatives mainstream ones, and use foss s/w.. And something like fdroid instead of playstore store or something..
Ignore the badly framed idea, but you get my point..6 -

when you're struggling to build small sized firmware on your 512Kb IoT Device resulting in bootloop every time... Then you see in the manual, that you have the 4Mb model and you frashed the rom to the wrong memory address for 2 weeks resulting in a bootloop... FML

Apparently my OP1 can also run Android 10 now...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...
And I upgraded my OP6 to LineageOS 17.1 a few weeks ago.
So the only reason I now have a Pixel 2 is because I need a non-rooted phone to access work emails... -
Brewmaster.
I've been brewing my own beer for about 6 months now and super positive feedback keeps on coming :)2 -
My first computer was an old Pentium 2 running windows 98 with no internet and just a CD Rom and Floppy Drive. Got it for my 7th Birthday I think and immediately wanted to make it do my biding.
Didn't work out. Had no clue what the words on screen meant and batch scripts looked like sorcery to me.
Hell even the options menu in German was a cryptic puzzle to me.
Got a little better in the meantime. -

I'm thinking of moving on from LineageOS. It's pretty good on my S3, but the battery life is laughable and there's some in built features missing I'd love to have.
Maybe make my own? I have trouble finding ROMs for my phone (that I like)7 -
Switched to LG G5 from iPhone 7 Plus.
Lg's screen has burn in and took me about 10 hours to completely fuck it up, restore it, flash crDroid(Lineage os based, the only custom rom working fine so far) and workaround the faulty wifi chip giving null mac address by faking it.
Still love my new(old) phone more than the iPhone.2 -
So the last two weeks Ive been trying to flash lineageOS on my new OnePlus6. Ive done multiple phones with custom roms without issue, but the new A/B partitioning makes it a lot more impossible.
I followed LineageOS their official guide for the phone twice and also suggestions from both OP subreddit as LineageOS subreddit.
After every fail I end up with a black screen and a blue LED, both when booting the OS and when booting TWRP from fastboot. Then Im doing a factory reset through a windows only tool and start over.
Im getting pretty frustrated, to a level I am almost saying FUCK it I will use google, since my current phone only works while connected to a charger. Since I really hate google I hope any of you can give a suggestion of flashing my phone.10 -
Just got my new phone today. My old Huawei was acting up, so I replaced it with an island model: an Asus. Man, I have read lots and lots of horror stories about bloatware that came with the previous version of their skin, ZenUI. Their UX people must have been listening, because this phone came with fewer preinstalled apps than any phone I've ever had, and that includes a Nexus 5. And so far the only preinstalled apps I've had to disable are the default keyboard and chrome.
It's as close to AOSP as I've ever had without using a rom. I'm pretty stoked! -
It's time to say goodbye...
... to PacRom.
//(PacRom?
//PacRom is a custom rom which has tons of //unique features. Problem: It's supports only a //few devices, like my good old OnePlus One.)
But why do I want a change now?
1. I don't get any updates or security patches any more. Yes, it hadn't stopped me to change for a longe time, but I think now that my device has more holes than a cheese.
2. I have an old Android Version (5.1.1) so I have some problems with performance and compatibility in general and with some apps.
3. I want something new, a change.
Which Custom Rom will I use next?
I want to try Ubuntu Touch for a while and then I want to go to LineageOS, but I am open minded for other ideas or suggestions.4 -
So I developed this proxy server that will throttle down API calls to one of our providers so we don't get blocked for TOS violation...
Some dude had a tool running all day long which crashed 2 minutes before I left work.
This literally ruined my day until I recalled it's all cached!!!!
Mood is back again and I deserve my beer! -
I reflashed my Oneplus One because for some reason it wouldn't boot into OS. It would just shut off after it boots.
Recovery was fine though. So thought it was a ROM issue, sideloaded the latest copy.
Still didn't work so as a last ditch effort I plugged it into the charger it.... figured i'd deal with it tonight.
Well now I turn it on again and it boots... Power bar says 71%....
Somehow it lost 40% power from just sitting on my desk a week unused.... or maybe i just remembered wrong. But still strange I could turn it on and even sideload from Recovery...1 -

The biggest dilemma for me has always been whether to switch my Android device to a sleek beautiful customisable AOSP based ROM or keep the stock ROM with all the amazing drivers and features, but with crappy bloatware.
Been sticking with CM/Lineage for years, amazing experience with Xposed & Viper4Android, but at expense of things like 4K and slow motion video and other stuff. -
I just rooted my phone after waiting long time to unlock bootloader. I know some of you here are using custom rom on redmi note 4. Which custom rom are you guys using?3
-
yesterday, I just swapped my sim card for some time with another. Placed it back....and voila! I can't enable data connection. I lost all my apn settings. To add to this, neither is it auto fetching the apns, nor i can manually change it! It shows some fucking error "apn settings not available for this user". I have another phone with same android version (lollipop) and everything works smoothly on it. These guys just broke everything after giving an upgrade from kitkat. Auto brightness stops working after a few hours, random reboots.... This is it... bye bye stock rom!

God, I wish I had even 2-3 friends that did web dev. I know a bunch of people on Discord who do rom hacking and fan games, but no web devs. :sad:7

question for the hardware guys.
How can I run a brushless motor without a ESC ? like a CD-Rom brushless motor.
Can I do it with an arduino + h-bridge or maybe an ULN2003A??

Question for the Android users!
I'm tired of Google and its intrusive apps and shit so I'm thinking installing a custom ROM, but I see that there are plenty of them (Lineage, Paranoid, Dirty Unicorns, etc etc), so I'm looking for advice ✌️😎14 -
Guys, i've searched long and hard for a custom Kindle fire 1st Gen ROM... Digging through the internet to find this shit is hard. The dropbox links on XDA for OtterKat aren't working.
I managed to flash Cyanogen to my other kindle (Fire HD 7) - which my dad wants back, even though he dosent use it. I'm left with this first gen, and i've been at it all day2 -
Playing around with a POC I'm doing for work, and it works so well I got an IP ban from one of my favorite websites for a massive amount of requests they got from me

Opinions on buying an old unsupported android phone?
Say I'd buy a galaxy S7 thats no longer supported or even an S8 that soon will be unsupported and don't plan to use a custom ROM.
How bad would that actually be?
I know it'll lack security patches, but how risky is that?7 -
What’s up DevRanters.
Is what’s up still up today ?
Sooo, my question is, what’d you do for your privacy ?
I’m using Signal and Riot.im for chat, ProtonMail for email (tutanota in the future).
But I’m using iPhone, can we really trust Apple ? Is this better on Android with a specific ROM ?
Same for computers (btw I’m not an Arch user 😎).19 -
So I've been on vacation for a week now, still two days to go until I get back to work.
It's been super fun, but I am getting pretty stressed about the shit-ton of work I have to do when I come back.
How do you let go?2 -
I think I'm gonna give up on privacy. It's hard to use the interwebs without JavaScript. And I use a phone on which you can't install lineage os or any other secure rom.4

My phone has been in a state where it has a perfectly fine LTE connection but no internet for 2 days. Provider confirmed the connectivity. Failure is on my end.

My father gave me a couple smartphones to do whatever with.
So what do you guys think I should do with them?
I have an Alcatel onetouch and a Galaxy Core Prime.
So yeah, custom ROM? Tear them apart for parts? Hack them?
I'd love some ideas!5 -
Whenever I update OxygenOS on my OP6 I try installing ther latest unofficial Lineage...
And if it fails... I install the full OTA ROM from fastboot.
Lineage failed... :(1 -

I purchased my Lenovo P90 a year ago and it never updated since.
Lenovo even took the P90 off the upgrade plan. Is that why I spent around 350$ on it?
I'm sill running android 4.4.4 and can't find a ROM because the phone is intel based.
When I asked them in E-Mail I got a copy-pasted anwser to use the phones update function(it returns that I'm running the newest version)1 -
currently in the mood for rooting my phone again (samsung galxaxy s6 edge).

After reading through an article by EFF about Google's new FLoC technology, I finally woke up and realized that Google isn't any different from the other huge organizations, and that it isn't here to fight for greater user privacy and rights... As such, I made a switch, going from Google to DuckDuckGo.
Sure, I still use YT, but other than that, I don't have a gmail address that'd be of importance, don't use their search engine, and now...
Got any tips on how to minimize tracking potential of an android-based rooted smartphone? (Stock rom, Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro). I know using a custom rom is an option, however, Lineage isn't officially supported for this model of phone, and I still value functionality over anything else, so... Unofficial daily drive OS is sub-optimal.
Alternative hardware solutions like PinePhone, although nice in theory, are way too behind the commercial brands in terms of technology and features, so that's a no go.5 -

Hello guys,
Does anyone use a Samsung Galaxy S7 with a custom rom? Are there good roms? And can you recommend some?
I have the european S7 I think there are processor differences. -
Ahhhhh.... Now i want to really know how developers make softwares, ROMs, chatbots using ML and all these type of stuff.
- When i go through the guide for making ROM for a smartphone or a chatbot the writer asks the reader to take the code from github, everybody just give github link and move on. None tells how the developer wrote that bunch of code. I really want to learn core concepts behind all this. I know how to code but i can't apply it in real life applications. For me there is no bridge which connects coding to end products. I don't know what to do next?4 -
All devs,
Can someone tell how to find if there's a backdoor in your Android phone or custom ROM installed?15 -
Read about concepts that are new to me and try to implement them.
Code reviews with experienced devs -

A system to build note-taking systems. tatatap dot com.
It’s the most successful for a few reasons: it got launched, people find it useful, but most importantly it’s been fun and continues to be fun to work on.
I think the fun-to-make factor is massively underestimated as a success indicator. Working on the right product (whatever that means) that is unenjoyable is like using an amazing computer with a broken keyboard. It’s never going to work.
Sure, with any project there’s annoying stuff, but it’s the trend overall. Is the core functionality fun to work on?
In the case of Tap the core component is a notation parser, open sourced called sowhat, github dot com/tatatap-com/sowhat
That was super fun to make and learn about lexing and parsing. It’s pretty far along but there’s still a lot I’m planning to add. -
Flashed the amazon-official firmware for the KF1. great. backed up. fantastic.
now to find a rom.
fuck.
nothing on XDA is actually there; all of the download links for kindle fire 1st gen lead to 404 pages. I'm actually getting very stressed over this. if i'm being stupid and missing a working link to a compatible ROM for KF1, PLEASE tell me
thanks,

Bruh, just learn them how a computer works with minecraft. Inverters, And, Nand, etc... can all b made there. From there, u can make flip-flops, u can make registers, adders, multiplexors, demuxs. Ofc makin anything more then a 1-bit, maybe 2-bit machine, would be a pain, and dont get me starting on memory that extends one register. But hey, if u got the patience, u can ofc. Put it together to an ALU, combin all of them with a PC to an CPU. Ofc, you got no ROM or RAM, but hey, atleast u've built the hard part.4

You know @otokolo reminded me of a gripe of mine regarding a doomsday fallback
Why has no one taken advantage of the considerable reduction in physical space required for storage and put a copy of Linux on ROM on a motherboard loaded with compilers and an ide ? Also why are these people so weird and cyclic? Was not originally that way and I don't remember enough up front to avoid it.11 -
why are there no other systems with emulators that have a debug suite as good as BGB's? The only thing even close is Bizhawk, which runs like ass (or not at all) on Linux through Wine, but even that's still not close.
