A wise man once said.. Any fool can write code that a computer can understand. Good programmers write code that humans can understand.2
-
So a guy wants to start a company with me. He wants to be CEO 👨💼 I'm fine with it but now he also wants me to obey every one of his orders such as attend long unplanned meetings, go do market research, code the app and for what, a mere 5%. He gets a bigger cut of the income because he came up with the idea 💡, he also gets to sit and order me around because he's read a few books on business and economics. People don't seem to understand the difference between having an idea and implementation. I just left and said no to every offer he had the highest of which was 10%, don't be worried about the money he says this is a real opportunity for you. I mean wtf is wrong with some people.13

So tired of people hating on tools, frameworks, languages, libraries without investing the time to fully understand the offering.
Just because you don’t understand it, does not mean it’s shitty.3 -
I honestly do not understand why clients, with no understand of development at all, think they know more than the developer.
I do not understand why these people think they know what can and cannot be done within a given timeline.
If it's so damn easy, why aren't you making the damn website/app yourself????

The more time you spend on devRant the more you notice how people:
1) cant understand that other people use other tools
2) cant understand that they actually enjoy using those tools
3) cant understand that they can ship good software products and code using those very tools.
Just build something you think is cool using the tools you think works best for you.10 -

Oh my god I love when you just have that "click" moment when you just understand EVERYTHING. I've been trying to understand how WordPress worked and found a great video series by Mr Digital on youtube and now understand the inner workings of WordPress instead of just the general aspect on how to install a theme or how to use a plugin.
People say there are tons of resources online but a very small amount of them actually work for most people. I just glad I understand it now.8 -

I feel like a lot of devs, last years self included.
Need to realize, a great Dev is not necessarily one that Ace in code.
But rather one that can convey and understand the problems they're to solve and more importantly the perspective of the end user.3 -

designer: the distance from the baseline of the letter "p" to the bottom of the box should be 150px exactly. You are 4px off.
me: Erm... baseline?
designer: Yes. Not the "base" or the "beardline". It must be the "baseline" of the font.

designer: And it must be the same in all browser, chrome, firefox, internet explorer

The second is when everything goes to shit, and you don't understand anything.2 -
I can't talk to our management. It's not like they aren't present nor that I wouldn't find them. I'm infront of their office actually.
But apparently their room number of 505 suggests that they don't support a modern protocol version and I disabled my legacy support. This won't work. -

How the hell do I understand want people want???
I listen to them, I pay attention to them (for the most part), but for the most part when someone assigns me something but it is not clearly explained, they expect me know what to do.
I had the most unproductive meeting with this guy I work for because of this... he had a problem, so we worked on ideas for this solution, and I thought I knew exactly what he wanted. We were getting somewhere. I get ready to leave for lunch and it turns out that is not at all what he wanted. We're back to square one.
Is it me, or are people really bad at explaining things?5 -

Flutter help please.
When creating a new website, code has the following:
MyHomePage({Key key, this.title}) : super(key: key);
What does {} content mean? Is it like Javascript, that there is an object passed and we take only those two params?
Because this is how they use it:
MyHomePage(title: 'Flutter Demo Home Page'),
I'm not sure what is the "key" thing7 -

TL;DR: fear of bricking my laptop due to typo pinning.
The worst nightmare i am living in right now...
I was noticing i did need some software in sid so i decided to use apt pinning for said software...
I configure the system, ok test looks good... I push it to production, run it on the system....and the nightmare starts.
Lits of packages get updated, and i am screaming 'noooooooo' since debian sid softwarz can sometimes break everything! I discovered that i did test my apt pinning config for the presence of the amount of numbers, but not at their value... Sooo, by accident swapping pin numbers for stable and unstable you get... Your worst apt-get update nightmare...
I hope it does not become a brick.1 -

But I have respect for those (male) devs, who understand women/girls. -
My phone has a useless Google Discover page on home screen that I can't use without singing in with Google and agreeing to them collecting data. 😐

But recently is having to re-explain what needs to be done or what the requirements are.2 -

Is any of it real? I mean, look at this. Look at it! A world built on fantasy. Synthetic emotions in the form of pills. Psychological warfare in the form of advertising. Mind-altering chemicals in the form of... food! Brainwashing seminars in the form of media. Controlled isolated bubbles in the form of social networks. Real? You want to talk about reality? We haven't lived in anything remotely close to it since the turn of the century. We turned it off, took out the batteries, snacked on a bag of GMOs while we tossed the remnants in the ever-expanding Dumpster of the human condition. We live in branded houses trademarked by corporations built on bipolar numbers jumping up and down on digital displays, hypnotizing us into the biggest slumber mankind has ever seen. You have to dig pretty deep, kiddo, before you can find anything real. We live in a kingdom of bullshit. A kingdom you've lived in for far too long. So don't tell me about not being real. I'm no less real than the fucking beef patty in your Big Mac.3

If someone can shed some light on this behavior, would be appreciated:
I am running a couple of docker containers with lighttpd on my server (lighttpd is also installed on the host server for reverse proxy). Now whenever I kill lighttpd on my host server it also kills ALL the running lighttpd instances in my docker containers. Isn't docker supposed to be, idk, CONTAINERIZED?2
