To be or not to be.
Whenever you are stuck with something in life, ask that question to yourself.
Because
2b || !2b
Is a Boolean expression which will always be true. So asking that question will lead you to true self.
Peace ☮️9 -
- It's a game, play it
- Come prepared
- It's better to say "not sure" or "don't know" than bullshit
- Don't write in the CV (or mention during the interview) things you don't want to be asked about
- Sound eager and enthusiastic about your profession because no one likes a downer
- the interview is a sales meeting, you are the goods, be sure to be a good salesman10 -
Wow, what a bunch of weirdos waiting for the Apple store in my city to open. Isn't it perverse to queue up for hours just to be able to BUY a product? It's not like you get a discount or anything. No - just because... I don't know... Why don't you wait a day or two longer or just simply buy it online? This cult-like obsession to be the first with the newest product can't be healthy for our society.23

I hate how people think that to be a "hacker" or hacking is this special job title. lol. Hacking is just using something in a way in which it was not intended to be used.
So pretty much think ...anal sex.
There. Now many people are "hackers"6 -
Citizens are advised not to use Firewalls on their devices or Networks, as there can be a fire threat from enabling those.

Dev: We are not going to be done early. There are two weeks left and we are way behind schedule.
Manager: Don’t be so pessimistic! You never know when or how fast tickets will be completed.
Dev: Yes I do…I’m the one doing them4 -
Fake or not I think all HR should learn to be straightforward by saying "I'm sorry you're not qualified" rather than telling people "We will get back to you"
600years from that time, it's unlikely they will get back to you.

My devGoals for 2018:
- Build a RESTful API with NodeJS just for learning.
- Finish my first product (electronics sideproject).
- Convert more people to use CraftCMS or at least not use Joomla or WP.
- Get a raise.
- Add Continuous Integration to more projects.
- Add more unit testing where appropriate.
- Create and release a mobile app.
To be continued...
*playing to be continued meme sound*9 -
May not be much but this is my first desk as a programmer; no more awkwardly hopping from couch to couch or from Starbucks to Starbucks. Outlook for future productivity is looking good y'all.5
-
This was not a client but my CEO himself. The website of the company was supposed to be made responsive. So, during the design phase I was explaining how how events should not be used to display ideal information as hover don't exist in touch devices. To this, he says, "Why don't you create something so that when the user has his hand over the phone(like an inch above, but not touched), it treats it like a hover".
The worst part is I still don't know if he was kidding or not!8 -
I just noticed programmers can cite Shakespeare in 1 character.

Please, if you're recruiting a freshly graduated or junior developper, DO NOT ask him to be a fucking expert in whatever field or tech you're looking for.2

I reached a point where I'll be happily working as the kid who serves coffee and tea to random strangers and not work at a company, as a freelancer OR WITH FUCKING HUMANS!
I'm out !!15 -
- Go to sleep early
- Get up at 5-6
- Drink quality coffee
- Work at your desk not from the bed or couch

Essentially don't be like me... Be like anyone else but me and you'll do fine...15 -

Just curious, how is it like to work as a developer. I mean, as a profession and not a hobby or freelancing.
From devRant, so far I know that you work in an office, the managers and bosses are assholes, and people always write unmanageable and undocumented code.
What else is it like? Do you get to work alone or do you have to work with people? Do you stay there all day long?
I know its still going to be a while for me, but I want to know how it will be like.24 -
Client:
"Ok,. so your saying that its gonna take you 63 hrs to create a simplified CRM with basic functionality and auto fill docs or automated work flow docs as an added feature?"
My response (after already under-quoting and planning on cutting some corners because he has a smaller budget than normally necessary):
"It sounds simpler than it is. There are a lot of things I need to take into account that you wouldn't even think about.
For instance:
Making sure your emails don't go to the client's spam folder. This requires the sending domain to be verified via DNS settings. I have to ensure your email content passes a spam test (link to text ratio needs to be good). I assumed you'd want an email that has your logo and looks good. This means testing the design in Outlook to make sure it's not broken.
What if the email doesn't send due to an invalid email address, or bounces back? You'll need to be notified.
What if the client list for the week contains duplicates? You need them merged or ignored.
Generating a PDF from HTML can be tricky because the conversion isn't apples to apples so there are things I need to adjust to make them as close as possible.
Making a site completely mobile friendly (the tier 3 option) can be very time consuming as well. It's not about whether or not it fits on a mobile phone, it's about whether or not it's intuitive and useful. You're essentially getting a mobile app without paying for separate development of an app.
If I took everything into consideration and built this to be 100% bullet proof, it would cost tens of thousands.
I'm doing my best to leverage your needs with the probability of running into an issue. I'm not going waste my time/your money on something that will likely never happen."9 -
When you chop down a tree it does not magically levitate because you misconfigured the chainsaw.

It definitely helps to not be proud, especially to talk to people.
I was about to refactor something someone did, without understanding their intentions and because I thought it was incorrect.
Thank God I got off my high horse to talk to them first!
If you are shy or bad at approaching people (like me), just force yourself and try.. You will eventually learn to be less hesitant.1 -
Semi-Rant
At first I really was gonna keep quiet about the whole Linus topic. But then I just saw Mark wrote this article 4 days ago.
Why Being an Asshole Can Be a Valuable Life Skill https://markmanson.net/being-an-ass...
Nobody can be fucking perfect. Nobody can be fucking everything. Through our lives from the first cry to last breath, we lost certain shits while gaining some shits. I'm not talking about materials and tangible things here. I mean losing shits like ability to understand emotions or loving or being empathetic and etc. But in return for those lost, you may have a superb understanding on different topics and ability of amazing concentration and freedom.
So I'm not saying that you have to be a nasty jerk to be successful. I'm saying you might be a nasty jerk since you are successful. And if you seriously think you need to improve yourself and do something about it, ok good for the rest of people around you.
Will the outcome be good for you? I'm not sure. I doubt it. The older we grow, the higher we reach, the stronger bond to our identify is made. Looking ownself as a total jerk and trying to improve it is probably the hardest task a guy can get in my opinion.23 -
This may or may not be an old meme but this is the first time i ever saw it and all i can say is
THANK YOU to the original creator, whoever he or she might be!
I had this insecurity for a long time as i always portrayed myself as more of a thinker than coder. I have to go over everythibg before i got to write even one single line of code, and for this reason i tought i might not be made out to be a programmer after all :s
It's truly reassuring to hear that your short comings are actually quite normal 😥
Sorry for the long post on a joke tagged post 😁5 -
Do not steer away from projects using technologies you may not know or be comfortable in. Instead worked your hardest to get it right, ask lots of questions and don't be insulted if people find issues in your code. It's a learning experience.
-
Just run “npm install”.
Mother fucker, if that worked, or if the six hours I spent trying to unfuck your dependencies worked, we would not be having this conversation.9 -
If you're planning to be a new entrepreneur (like me) here's a few things to keep in mind:
1) it'll keep getting harder but it's all worth it. Do not quit mid way no matter how hard it gets.
2) stop asking everyone for advice, they'll either be assholes or you'll end up getting confused by too much contradicting advice.
3) regardless of point 2, people will still advise you on everything (ikr). Listen to them, and if you don't agree with it... Do not bother to correct them, never helps... Just ignore it
4) if some one is an asshole to you or someone shoots your idea down, don't get discouraged. Reflect on it and if it's irrelevant, forget it all. Do not try to be an asshole back, always take the higher road.
P.S I'm also still learning... Hope you all very best for your endeavours :)6 -
My new favourite response to a bug ticket:
"But do you not remember we tested the implementation and it worked?"
... yes ... then it broke under other circumstances.
... must be terrorists or something2 -
[ ] be humble, but not unconfident.
[ ] Step out of your comfort zone. Don't apply to a job that is exactly like your last one.
[ ] A good team is the most important thing for a developer. Intelligent, and nice people to work with and to learn from is more important than the salary difference between jobs.
Try to 'feel' for a good team. Ask to be introduced or to look around when you finish the interview.2 -
Makeshift standing desk to see if the hype is actually worth it or not.
10 minutes in: Not really feeling it. Could be because it's 1:20 and I'm slightly tired, or it could be the fact I'm kinda lazy lol3 -
What would you be willing to sacrifice for 1 tbps internet speeds?
Mine is my left leg. I'll get a prosthetic or wheel chair. Not like I'd be doing much walking with those speeds keeping me distracted lol.13 -
Never be egoisitc about your code. Its good to feel proud on your code that you did it. but sharing is caring.. don;t be like only I can do this.. ego is not for dev community.. be adaptable for changes whether you learn from junior or senior :)7

Dear devranters,
Recently, i stopped liking the job that I used to love. not because i got bored of the work, but because of the company politics and drama.
All in all i feel very disrespected and treated as just a pawn to do whatever management feels like. I am tired of being promised things and management going back on them.
I have decided to try to make my own software company. as small as it would be. just anything where I am not anyone's slave or "employee". I want to be the boss for once... and not wait for someone to give me my salary and telling me to be thankful for it.
my main concern is gathering clients. If you can suggest a few ways in the comments id be grateful19 -
How clients tend to not understand how much work developing a "simple" or "small" feature can be.
Hey add live chat, that's easy right?2 -
Should a developer really have to be a jack of all trades? I write code, but at work I feel like I am always getting pulled into sysadmin debacles. I am not a sysadmin or an ops person. I am a developer, not a systems guy.
If you want me to be a systems guy, then train me to be one. You hired me to write code, not to troubleshoot shitty IBM Application Servers.8 -
I really love how beautiful code can be, and the feeling of creating something for others or yourself to enjoy. But I hate being the family's IT guy... I'm a developer not IT support.4

YOU STUPID APPLICATION MANAGER STOP PROLONGING THIS MEETING FOR THE LOVE OF GOD this is a daily scrum not a status report you solid twat stop asking when something will be done when it hasn't even been worked on yet
Dev: "I'll start working on the thing today, might take a day or two to finish development"
Twat: "Will it be ready for testing tmorrow"
D: "Maybe by late tomorrow? If all goes well"
T: "So it'll be tested by tomorrow"
D: "Uhhhh wait"
T: "It'll be done by tomorrow"
D: "But"
GODDAMNIT MAN HE'LL TELL YOU TOMORROW IF IT'S DONE OR NOT AND IF IT CAN BE TESTED I want to punch you so hard in the face with a spiked mallet covered in wasp stingers and hello kitty juice to excacerbate your diabetes you filthy piece of excrement waiting to be smeared across the pavement with my boot9 -
Today I was asked if my email was all lowercase or uppercase. I wanted to be sarcastic but I relax this time.
I don't understand why only lowercase and uppercase why not camelcase?7 -
2 days until I leave my job and I am assigned a large, legal requirement task to complete, with no time to plan or opportunity to hand over the work. No way it will be done in time, and no teamwork, so no one else will be up to speed on it when I leave, and I daresay I'll be blamed for it not working to their 2 sentence specification! Yup, that's why I'm leaving folks!1
-
"adding that feature is not hard, the devs are just lazy"... or maybe... just maybe development is more complicated than you make it out to be when you vomit your middle management all over it?
-
I recently got a notification that said "the are 590 new rants since your last visit" or something like that.
At the time that I got that notification the last time I logged on was only a day or two ago. And I'm not even subbed to that many people!
You all need to chill the fuck out. It shouldn't be healthy for you all to be this angry all the damn time.1 -
Stupid HTML checkboxes! It's always annoyed me that you can't just set checked to true or false, but have to remove the property altogether to uncheck a checkbox. Better still would be if you'd only need to set the value to 1 or 0, and the checked or not would sort out automatically. Yes, there are frameworks to handle it, I know. But if checkboxes had been designed right from start, a framework or any sort of special cases would not be needed. You've got love HTML, but things like this make it ugly.6

Me: there it is, app is complete and work correctly
Friend: What is this 5 warnings?
Me: It's nothing just ignore them
Friend: If you are a true developer fix these warnings
Me: (after 5 hours) compile..... 14 Error, 😡 fuck you I want my warnings back3 -
How to explode a .NET developer, give them this challange:
Write a method.
- I must HTTP Get any site (does not matter what), and return the result
- It must NOT be async, and must directly return the result string (No Task<string>)
- It must use HttpClient
- It must be in .Net framework 4.5 or lower
- No other nuget packages allowed
This was my job today and i want you to share my pain!11 -
Damnit...
I'm kind of a perfectionist, which is one of the reasons why I don't post here very often.
I think that my posts have to be the most hilarious or creative ones to even be bothered to be read by anyone.
Now.. I'm kind of not sober, so I'll just write some idéas, jokes and rants in notes on my iPad.. Sleep, and get drunk again tomorrow and maybe post them...
Or maybe just delete this post and be ashamed tomorrow?
I at least posted this under the "Joke/Meme" tag so that people won't be offended, hopefully, by this "none-rant".5 -
Tell me what tilts you the most when you are talking to a recruiter or HR personal. I will start;
Them implying that money should not be important when I am changing jobs- so I can accept their lowball offer.
STFU biatch, I am good at this profession, of course I will go to higher salary or higher comfort or a combination of both. I am not running a charity here!5 -
1 am, wide awake,
I want to go code but cannot take,
for time is not my friend,
If I go now, it will not end.
Rest is needed, sleep must be,
or tomorrow I will pay the fee,
concentration will be sparse,
and boss will surely kick my arse.2 -
Inflexible working times.
I mean why the fuck is it ok to be at the office from 5am to 1:30pm but not from 10am to 6:30pm or what I would like most in weeks like the current one: 11 / 12pm to 7:30 / 8:30pm?6 -
great times when you try to explain to your girlfriend the code you're writing, and she's not shure she should be impressed or call the psych ward..1

ArmA 3, a great sandbox that I "wasted" a lot time scripting modding or, if you like to call it that: developing for.
A game so great, the Multiplayer-server-browser stores the amount of players on a server in an 8 bit integer.
Someone complaint a few years ago.
Response: " be happy, it were 4 bits not to long ago"
There were Servers who ran into that problem.
To clarify, that only affected the shown number, not the amount of players, at least not directly.
Who likes to be lonely in a multiplayer game.1 -
Well today I found out that is perfectly fine to not communicate or look at your phone and be unresponsive while pair programming. They can't even write a single line of code on their own. I'm having to dictate them things by character. How can this be seen as a cultural difference. How the hell are they still employed and the most important question. Why do I need to accomodate to them and find ways to motivate them?
They should be doing what they are paid to do.5 -
In other news, I have been forbidden by my boss to implement any security or performance improvements into the company infrastructure as this holds no business value. Furthermore, passwords are not to be a random alphanumeric+special-chars string but something legible.14
-
Yeah, hiring people solely to write unit tests is a completely reasonable thing to do, i mean, its not like unit tests are a perfectly repetitive task that could easily be automated or anything...5
-
Security!
Offensive and defensive at both code and infrastructure levels.
So many times I see devs not give a flying pancake about security. Whether it be rolling integers for sql injection or permission guarding to prevent someone executing something they shouldn't.
Why is security in this industry always the last thing to be concerned about when it's the first thing that's going to kill your business.

First day as logistic administrator and already in need of this ribbon in excel... (was not included as a skill needed or to be known.) Let's do some after work VBA I guess.5

Hey...just wondering...
In Germany its quite common for M$ nazis to call Windows "Windoof" , which means Win-stupid...
I'm not aware of anything similar in English or other languages...And that can't be ;)
Enlighten me please!9 -
"I don’t think of myself as an artist. I know some designers consider themselves such, but I can’t. This is not to say that I don’t hope that our work has artistic merit. Anyway, I never know how someone could proclaim himself or herself to be an ‘artist’; I think it should be a designation best left for others to bestow, much like ‘genius’ and ‘asshole’." - Alexander Isley1
-
Think twice code Once, if I had a cent for every time I've jump right into the code without a proper analysis or design just to notice that my whole implementation is not functional or scalable I'd be a millionare1

dear female devs / haecksen, how many other female devs do you have in your team?
if not so many, how do you feel about it?
and do you get a lot of sexist bullshit or not so much?
would be great to hear your experiences.
the female quota among our devs is < 3% 😅
most of the time i don't think about it and just do my job and it's fine, but sometimes i think, it's a bit weird. also, there is this fear that people might not have trust in my skills. it can be good and bad to be "special"... anyway, having more female rolemodels / mentors / colleagues to have technical discussions with would be awesome.55 -
What's your opinion on sites like Wix and Shopify?
Personally, I think they're ok for a placeholder site, but not a permanent site. If you're looking to be a professional company or store, then I feel you should have an original site, to be honest.7 -
Is it too much to ask for companies in the current world to be.. oh I don't know.. honest and consistent?
If you advertise on your Job section: "We always give our candidates feedback, whether they got the job or not". Then, *****, give them feedback! I applied and they never got back to me. And no, that's not feedback.6 -
I wish I could tell my dog not to get up from his comfortable position or sleep each time when I simply want to goto the bathroom or stretch.

Ticket: We were able to get the site launch, but we lost some functionality on x. Can you fix ASAP?
Not a single url, didn't even know they were going to launch, or where. There must be an achievement for this. 🤡4 -
Not only are you not your job, your job is not worth taking home with you; unless it's actually your company, leave it in the office. You can love your job and still have days when you hate it, or days when you'd rather be doing anything else; that doesn't mean you don't still like what you do.
As a profession we can all be obsessive and not take the time out that we need, so make special effort to do so, even if that just means you're working on a personal project instead. Your brain, and partner, will be glad that you did. Whether you like to admit it or not, everyone needs downtime.1 -
Hey Spectrum! It'd be pretty wicked if you could email me or shoot me a text the next time you decide to do maintenance that will result in service outages!
It's not that hard to shoot a text that says "Hey Stuxnet! We gonna be doing some maintenance, so ya internet's probably gonna be down for a bit. We'll get that shit up and running asap tho my man."2 -
If an AI gets advanced enough to not require human support it will also be advanced enough to either just pamper us, or replace us.
But I think that long before that we will have neural interfaces that brings us to the next level so the AI will be part human ;)7 -
Keep it simple, but at the same time try to build it so that any known or unknown future change can be easily implemented. Do not block your future.1

Network, talk to people, and get yourself on the spot, document everything and make sure that you take action when others do not.
Kissing ass can take you far, but I ain't about that life, because sooner or later the fucker that promoted you because he liked his pp getting suckd by you will leave or get put in the spot. Or change alleagiances.
Your best bet is to be ANYTHING OTHER THAN A FUCKING NECKBEARD WITH AUTISM and be someone that people likes being around, I know it sounds hardcore, but people around you will ignore the things you don't know if you are a charismatic guy. Dress well, work out or find ways to improve yourself in ways that are noticeable, use human psychology to be fucking likeable.
Work hard, both on yourself and on your craft, study, get better, be social.
Stop being a twat because high chances are that the higher executives of your branch will not give a shit about your knowledge, but how good is to have you around. Join the circle, fuck your opinions about anything else, this is business, and business doesn't care about a lot of things. Don't cut throats, but make yourself a force to be reckoned with.

I have just started working in this industry, and so annoyed by the fact that managers are insensitive to the efforts put in by the developers.
1. They ask for estimates, and sometimes consider it to be the hard line for everything and then they make you feel guilty if you are not able to live up to them.
-- I am not asking to be always lenient but they need to understand that this is problem solving and one might not be able to gage the problem at first sight. A problem might have several sub problems or a solution to one issue might raise compatibility issues with other which were tough to foresee .
2. Why do they always want an instant response to their email or query, a developer being online isn't just there to answer your damn obvious and sometimes stupid questions which can be understood just be glancing at the logs once.
-- How annoying would it be if the manager himself is being poked every other minute for trivial things. Does he have the same patience with his/her developers?
3. In tough times the manager easily delegates the responsibility to the developer and instead of standing by his/her side, interrogates them as if we have done some crime.
-- Wasn't this approved by you. Weren't you the one who had these stupid demands before and didn't let me do things the correct or optimized way. I am not saying I am always right, but you can be atleast open for feedback or discussion.
Why are you the first to take credit for the success and yet hold us responsible for any mishaps.
It's sad to see that some of these people have been tech developers.
I can go on ranting for many more things.
I am not saying all those people out there are like this. But trust me many are.
Note: I am not seasoned as you guys out there. I may even be biased by my own experiences. But this is in complete contrast to what I was expecting when I graduated from college and was excited to finally learn by working.1 -
Will be offline for few days.
If you see me like/comment to your post or post any rant until next month, please mention me there with "gitlog do your work or you'll not make it"5 -
If this was userRant most of the rants would be about difficulties with the app itself.
People say: of course I'm having issues, in not used to it.
I used to help people to use android or iphone even before I had one.
Its not about being used to something. Its about putting your brain to work... some people just can't ...6 -
Gag SO, tie em up & suspend them in the air in the basement or attic..
Helps if SO is into BDSM..if not it's a bit awkward.. // joke, I don't even have an attic or basement.. :(
In all seriousnes, if anyone knows how to prevent people from knocking on the office door to ask if I want coffe or sth to eat, that'd be great..asking them to not disturb unless the house is on fire or they cut off their fingers clearly doesn't help.. :(8 -
my mom thinks designing something with photoshop or illustrator is easy asf, like after 15-20 mins its done. yeah, sure if u want it to not look as good as it can be when you do it 2 or 3 hours. when i design, i dedicate time for it cause believe it or not, when it comes to that, i want everything to be perfect. up to the last 2 object being perfectly aligned to one another.
she wants me to design something for her and be finished in a few minutes and i rejected her because i still have loads of stuff to do. i wouldnt go to university at 9am just to do them if they weren't that important. and now i look like im the bad kid who doesnt wanna help her mom out ughhh irritating asf, its like reverse psychology.

My boss just realized that I'm allowed to say how I want to be treated as a female and it's ok while he can't say how a female should or shouldn't be treated is because I AM FEMALE and therefore I'm speaking for myself and from my own experiences not saying how someone else should feel!
Only took well over a year.....5 -
I feel I have developed some sort of digital hoarding and can't be at peace just browsing before the night, I have to save, like, ++, whatever or I feel I will some day think of that specific content (image, post, music, video, ..) and never be able to find it, it did happen before, which probably engraved that even further or was the cause, but it's just such a disease not to be able to just browse and not worry about some day having the need to find it again.9

@dfox I recently started playing around with Neo4j and find it really fun to work with. Would there be any way to get hold of parts of the devRant graph/graphs? Not private or secret stuff of course - only public parts of rants, tags and users. It would be fun to to play around with and analyze.13

Wanted to test whether my card worked online or not (was having some issues with it) and decided to try becoming a devRant supporter, and it worked!
Gotta say, I feel really happy to be able to give back to devRant and show my support by doing something as small as this. Loving the darker theme too.
Thanks for everything so far, devRant, and happy to be a supporter. -
On a non-Dev forum about a hobby topic, someone felt the need to go all woke about certain famous creators in said hobby. Particularly that those creators have ideas and philosophies antithetical to the (ever shifting) ideals of wokeness. And that everything those creators made should be destroyed and never allowed to be portrayed or discussed in public again. In the name of tolerance, of course.
If this starts to happen to the dev world to the point that I can no longer earn a living because it has become known that I have possibly committed or might commit Thoughtcrime because of who I associate with, I will be glad to see that asteroid, polar flip, or worldwide EMP reset. Because humanity can’t progress if no one can write, sing, play, or make something simply because they are not woke enough.5 -
I don't get what's happening with trolls here. Or people who are trying to be trolls.
Ostream got brutally trolled and deleted his account. Then came back with an alt account.
Same with Alexanderr, Nanos, Chaosesqueteam.
I am not siding with anyone, idc who's right or who's wrong, but there's one golden rule for trolling that you should know, before u attempt to be one -

I don't know the current total number of daily active users and rants counts on devRant. But maybe it would be nice to have a group tagged/mentioned feature. Or something similar. Or subscription to a tag?
Like for example, when it comes to security and privacy and google-free-life all of us usually mentioned linuxxx and the gang. When it comes to server, if I'm not wrong Linux and electrical hardwares for Condor, etc.
But there might be (should be) other who should be mentioned and who would want to get mentioned as well.
Might be fun as well. All those Raven and clans can communicate easily with such feature.
Thoughts anyone? If I got positive responses here, I'll open a feature request on GitHub 🤔31 -
Do you guys ever feel like you lose the ability to be objective about your own work. I've looked at my website for so long now, I don't know if I think it's good or not...5
-
I love calling (or mailing) helpdesk "engineers" about issues. Clearly something that explicitly has been mentioned to not be the issue is the issue, amirite? 🤪
Engineers my ass 😑4 -
In PHP, constants can only be of simple data types like strings or floats.
You can't make a database connection a constant because it's not a simple data type.
That makes the only way of accessing complex "constants" within functions using the keyword global... which is not encouraged and forces you to make the database connection global (that may not be convenient in some software patterns).
The last option is passing the database connection as a parameter (either to the function or to the constructor of the instance whose methods will use the connection)... which would be good if I didn't want to go full OO. Because it's a pain to do so.
So all in all, constants are not well supported by PHP.
Come on, constants...12 -
Came online today expecting few raspberry pi projects. Was hoping to get few ideas.
Disappointed? Donno -
Next time someone told you to be more sociable, or not to be so introvert, just kindly remind them that there would be probably some 1M less dead bodies out there today, only if in the past six months more people could simply stay in their whatever nasty place they dwell and overcome their lust to gather to whatever stupid end.
Be an introvert, save lives.8 -
Be a MEAN stack developer not just a mean developer.
Unfortunately, I have met few developers who just like to demean other people who know less or are less experienced.8 -
My biggest concern is, that I won't be able to get free fruits and drinks while working. Oh yeah also my cat who will definitely want to lay on my laptop and or keyboard...

Do you guys know any website that challenges you into coding little programs (for me, php) to solve problems ?
I mean, it would be to train my skills with actual kind of real world problems, not just hello worlds or simple "how-to" codes.
I signed up to a contest recently and I felt really dumb not to be able to find solutions faster or with more efficiency (FYI : I was ranked 1049/2300 all languages included :( )11 -
Reasons to dislike our work VPN when working remotely: Forces all traffic to be routed through it, not only the important internal stuff.
For some reason, I just dislike having everything I do potentially recorded and/or at least slowed down.13 -
Be yourself, don't make yourself look better (or worse!) than you actually are. Also, I never made a side project in my life and I landed every job I applied for. Don't pretend to be someone you're not.

I haven't said anything yet, but an AltRant notification server exists. Support for it will arrive very very soon on the AltRant app. It will run locally on the end user's personal computer, and it does not require a constant connection to the phone. Both devices need to be connected to the same local network on first connection, but after that you can wander out of your house or disconnect from the local network and still receive notifications.
DISCLAIMER: ALL SENSITIVE USER CREDENTIALS ARE NOT STORED *ANYWHERE* EXCEPT ON THE LOCAL USER'S MACHINE. NO DATA IS SENT TO ME. THE SERVER IS OPEN-SOURCE, HAS NO RELEASE BINARIES AND RUNS ON PYTHON.
Note to @dfox: if you want this to not exist or not be supported inside AltRant, please tell me or send me an email about it.2 -
Just came up with something inspired by @librarycomic for use at the very start of every meeting with the customer.
"You have the right to remain silent. Any ridiculous specs or illogical features that you say can and will be laughed at in the back project office room.
Any real questions you ask will be answered to the best of our ability, as long as they don't violate privacy or the law or the internet.
You have the right to be in a hurry or tighten the deadline, but not to expect that it will cost the project any less.
With these rights in mind, let us begin our progress meeting. On to you."
Feel free to fork and contribute! :D -

I aim to be web designer...
a little backstory, I've always been ignorant towards how much effort it takes to design one responsive website without frameworks or libraries and now that I know it's not a child's play (at least not for me), I aim to be one, I mean I look some websites' media query rules and they go down till smart watches now a days1 -

So, a few friends of mine are starting a company. They'll be the CEO, CTO etc. The product is an app, with its corresponding back end in the cloud. They want me to build the app.
1. I'm not willing to take risk - spending time on that (not my idea at the first place & may or may not go well)
2. Not sure if I'll be benefitted. (Monetary / stake)
3. I have few projects at hand & have plans to learn something more/new (not narrow down only to apps).
What should I do guys?? Recommendations??11 -
I am not a US citizen or an expert in law, so my questions are:
- Do you think this RESTRICT act that will potentially ban VPN use will be passed?
- Is the restriction only applied to those who use Tiktok or general use?
- Corporates also use some kind of internal VPN, is this included in the ban?
- How much dumber the gov is trying to be?

Writing ugly code should be a capital offence. And oh, I should be the sole judge of what is an ugly code or not.
No, this punishment won’t apply to me, thanks for asking.5 -
#just a thought
The child that is the most curious will grow up to be most boring person.
Why?
Since most other children of his age would be doing random and a lot of things without questioning , he would be struck in his simple world of 'why this happens' , therby limiting him to one but deep knowledge of a field.
And even if not , being curious leads to answers of little mysteries ignored by ususal ppl. Therefore, this boy with lots of knowledge will be "boring, coz he always have some right things to say".
Thus a child can either don't care and do whatever his authority wants from him without questioning, and grow into a likeable, social adult, or be curious , learn in deep and grow out to be a specially awkward person7 -
Is it common to be handed a code base, be told "that's yours now", and not be told what needs to be done with it? Like not given a spec, not given a list of change/problem reports, just "have this, it's yours, go do stuff, don't break anything"? I am trying to determine if this is a blessing or a curse.3

Trying not to roll my eyes when they say they are like family(or adjacent things like we go to lunch togther etc) to convince me or they imply money shouldn’t be my highest priority…

I'm not sure if this should be a joke or random, but the SBB train info screen in St. Gallen on platform 5 just decided to interpret the data given a bit differently than intended.
It is not broken and no other screen has that problem. What could it be, I wonder. But I don't care enouht to post it as a question.
I guess random would have been more appropriate.13 -

My boss uses agile development so he doesn't has to think about use cases he wants to be covered by the application.
He's just throwing in a "design" (an image that is probably created with Paint) without any further specifications and inconsistent elements, let the developer work two days on it, see the outcome, complains why it's not how he wanted it to be and then starts thinking how the feature should be integrated in the app and notices that his "requirements" from the image could not provide any advantage or usage at all for the user of the application. Asking for clarification before starting to work just leads to spongy statements or silence when he notices that he didn't think through to the end.
Sad is that this has not happened only once but is usually the way a new feature is developed...1 -
Reasons to NOT be a dev sounds rather negative so I'd like to propose 3 things that you need to BE a dev as to frame it in a positive light:
- When a problem peaks your interest you want to solve it, you may even be obsessed by it.
- You enjoy learning, not necessarily enjoy school, just enjoy learning new things (even better if it's by your own means)
- Failure may get you down, but you learn and don't give up until you have exhausted all paths to success.
You may need other skills like math, logic and reasoning abilities, being able to handle deadlines, attention to detail, and cope with stress. I've seen people being crap at all of those and if they have the former 3 they, in time, will hone the others enough to make them a productive dev.
No need to be a 9-9-6 code monkey willing to be squeezed by Big Corp for massive profits and a low salary or a 1337 purist coder that only focuses on the crafting side of developing software. That may make you a great coder but not a well rounded developer or individual. Remember, you program machines but you are NOT one.10 -
Personal Opinion:
If you/your company's goal is to achieve micro-services, kubernetes or any new shiny technology, then you are thinking it wrong.
These tools are a means to an end. They should be a solution to an issue you are facing/will certainly face. They should not be your end goal.5 -
DevRant may not have such a big community yet, but I wonder whether my coworkers have some posts here.
It would be quite awkward to ask, so I'll ask you.
Have you ever (by accident) met a friend or coworker on DevRant or similar platforms?7 -
Recruiters on LinkedIn:
"Apologies for this direct approach, I'm sure you're not looking right now and get messages like this all the time, but I have this opportunity that I think you'd be perfect for.
It's not in a language you know or a framework you're even aware of, but I know you're right for the job. It's not anywhere near you either. Hell, it's not even on the same planet as you, but fuck it, let's give it a whirl!
If you think this right for you, or not, just call me and we can talk some more about this (even though I have no idea what THIS is!). If not, forward this on to 1000 other people or you will be eaten by a dinosaur tomorrow!
To be honest, I don't really know who you are or what your skills are. I'm just spamming you through InMail.
Laters, Nerd!"1 -
If you're offered high responsibilities, high power to make decisions should come with it.
You can't be expected to bear responsibility for other people's decisions if you have no power to decline them just because you feel like it. Your coworkers should prove things to you, and not the other way around. Why? Because you'll be held accountable, and you can't be expected to hold accountability of what you had no power to decline or moderate.
The absolute majority of problems I had while working with companies were caused by asymmetry in power / responsibility balance.
That's why if a company wants me to hold responsibility for a thing that other people can intervene with and make their edits, and I somehow have to PROVE something to them if I want them not to, I stop working with them immediately. Simple as that.
You want me to be accountable? Then I have the ultimate final say in everything. You want others to have the power to make decisions? Fine, then I'm not to be held accountable. And as it's impossible to find out who was responsible for what, I'll just be better off quitting right now.2 -
Dear recruiters just because I apply to a specific job online (dice) does not mean I want to be called about jobs in ducky places I would never relocate or in the town I would like to move from.1

This is one of the coolest shader tutorials I have seen.
https://youtube.com/watch/...
It simply walks you through start to finish enhancing a weapon. I also found it can also be applied to 2D games as well. What I don't like is it is not setup to be generic. I will have to figure out how to make it be a weapon effect you can apply. I think having weapons provide a mask for where the shaders should be applied would make that possible. Then the generic effects can be applied to the weapons or removed. No need to have unique weapons of every type and for every effect.
This is the kind of tutorials that really get me going. When thinking of 2D I had not really thought about using shaders like this.4 -

How to interpret when you receive bugs reported for your application?

Note: will obviously consider turning some of them into features. Though not all.2 -
As we all know(or suppose) that Google is silently listening to us, is there any way to stop him without covering the microphone physically (I know it can be a suggestion)?

Today I watched "the birth and death of js":
https://destroyallsoftware.com/talk...
Here Gary Bernhardt talks about compiling executables to asm.js and about running the compiled files using a js interpreter that can be included in the kernel.
Eventually, some responsibility can be moved from the kernel to this interpreter, responsibility like virtual memory and trap management.
This speech aims to be fun, so not everything should be taken seriously...
but...
but...
(Forgive me)
...this trick seems to be a nice idea, and projects like Node OS work likewise.
So now, would you even consider this? Or is it just something that will be nothing more than craziness of a mad man?1 -

What are the chances of landing any kind of job in the software field without my CS bachelor's degree completed?
Cuz I'm so tired of the impractical bullshit I've had to do in class for the last 2 or 3 years. I just don't get why the University does not prepare people to work in dev teams yet it seems to be a prerequisite for any consideration to be hired in the field.
Edit: I'm quite familiar with programming and learn quickly. But is that not sufficient?6 -
Because of a ridiculous strict server environment (where even PHP was not allowed) he proposed that I could connect over Skype to do my stuff in typo3, which than could be exported to plain html to run on their server.

I have to listen to Pandora or something when I program... it's gotta be low volume, and the song can't be too bad or I'll get distracted from my hatred of it, and the song can't be too good because then I'll start singing along. Why am I so prissy about this? It's the only thing I'm prissy about, not like a norm dev… I'll use any editor, I don't care, any OS… but the music gets to me.2

Which key would, or did you choose?
Cherry MX red, brown, blue, green, clear, black, silent red, silver, or Zealio 67g?

I have a simple task to do but I want some of you guys' input.
So I need to set up a button that when pressed will cause a video to play on a nearby TV.
- This must happen instantly (or at most with a second or two of delay)
- Video will be "self-hosted" (not on Youtube or something) and will mainly stay the same
- No idea what kind of TV I'll get to work with (might be smart, probably not)
I'm thinking a Raspberry Pi with a button connected to it's GPIO and a static image displayed on the TV when idle. That way I can also manage/maintain it remotely via SSH and it should be reliable enough but on the other hand this could be an overkill...
Post your 2 cents please and thank you :)2 -

Hey folks!
! Do not read further or open this rant if you are likely to be offended!
I always wanted to know but had no nice way to ask so I'm just gonna shoot.
Most of you must have worked/be working with foreign people: canadians, french, chinese, etc. How would you describe those people as colleagues [e.g. lazy, stubborn, chatty, etc.]? The goods and the bads would be perfect.
The topic is sensitive. Please be polite but sincere. This question nor its answers are not meant to offend anyone. We all have our cultural differences, we all have been taught different. I'm just wondering what could I or anyone else expect from each foreign teammate.15 -
- never push to prod on friday or before lunch time
- doublecheck fucking everything

Fuck Apple with two pineapples in the ass. 99€ per fucking year to tell me how the fuck should the access to my app be. I damn require users to sign up. I only need email and country. Not a single other piece of data. My app is not a goddamn catalogue or boutique. No free content, free app but each user needs to Auth themselves. You fucking telling me y pay 99€ so you decide how the access to my app should be?
Cunt Apple should rot in 10 day old humid shit and let devs be owners of their apps and hard work. Clowns.7 -
Not sure what's better on Friday:
Fix the bugs and push it to prod so manager will be happy.
Or sit there like a dumb fuck and wait for Monday before touching the code2 -
There is a moment in a project where you either tell everybody that they have fucked up everything and a new beginning is necessary... Or you will be the one who's getting fucked in the end as 'the constant warnings and delays were communicated, but not offensive enough to be of major importance.'

Google: "We're sorry... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now."
Despite all of their efforts towards so-called artificial "intelligence" and "I am not a robot", they are still not even able to distinguish a script from human rage clicking?!
I will be so glad when Google and their services will be history. Like with Whatsapp and the other Silicon Valley crap, intelligent people are practically forced to use bullshit software just because it got so popular that "everybody else" is using it.8 -

Is there anyone who actually likes using Angular?
I decided to learn it (im backend only for many years) to be less clueless in the frontend world.. and so far i find it horrible.
Is it just a "culture shock" or do frontent angular devs also find it.. not so fun to use?
What i dont like so far is the inconsistency of syntax.. i feel like similar things done differently and not following rules that can be learned, i can't remember/guess anything, everything needs to be googled
i.e- `*ngIf` vs `[ngSwitch]`
Not to mention 3 different syntaxes to simply bind a property..
I tried vueJs about 3 years ago and it was so fun and EASY20 -
There will always be times when you will need to understand/modify horribly written code, or have to work with a fellow "programmer" who is clueless about what programming actually is.
In such situations, not losing your cool is a necessary evil. -

It used to be one of the best paying professions, so there is plenty of people who aren't meant to be software developers, but they tried to get money and now suck at it.
Now that standard of living increased by a lot there are other specialists that do not require this much education or talent (but still you need to be decent) and pay comparably or even more, because there is just so much demand for them if they are high quality (people wait for months). Those are mostly people who build, finish or otherwise improve houses and cars. Even unqualified labor got decent pay now, tho still about 1/3 of what average dev will make. -

My poor colleagues man... Feeling quite bad for them right now. I mean, they must be suffering so badly at the moment.
I mean, who wants to be getting paid to go to Venice anyway? Pfft... Definitely not me. Nope. Not jealous in the slightest. Or China, where the other one currently is.
No no, I am perfectly fine, just chilling, basking even, in the glory of this country town, that I only get to come to 5 days a week. Overall I should be quite grateful for opportunity I suppose. Just thought the other day of something: AI devs are developing what will make their job useless, as AIs will be able to do programming. AIs will probably take over each and every job and we won’t have to work anymore.
They’ll eradicate diseases and we’ll live for quite a long time. When the basics needs will be completely fulfilled, their goal will be to make of the world a human paradise, with the goal in mind of making us happy and have no worries.
Then they’ll make it to the next level and plug us to a virtual world. It’ll be a paradise, an utopia and it will probably be like the 1st Matrix...

Or it may just not happen, but can we be sure of that… I’ve always laughed at people saying technology will end humanity, but now I realize that killing all of us is not the only way to end the humanity …7 -

Every developer thrives to be the best. But, it's not only the skills, hard work or knowing infinite languages makes you the best. It only makes you the good.
Along with skills, hard work & the languages, the best one needs to have those instincts about the possible solutions to a problem and ability to decide and implement the most efficient solution cleanly in least amount of time.
I'm thriving to be the best. Are you?3 -
The worst is having to rewrite/refactor another person's implementation either due to not follow the requirements or specifications and having made something completely different or useless.

How realistic is it to expect a single developer to build a site that functions like booking.com or similar online hotel booking system from scratch? Doesn't have to be on par with those popular sites.
Is this something you would be able to do alone?
I got asked about doing it and I haven't responded a clear yes or no. I'm not sure if I'm under estimating the technical difficulty.7 -
A new way appeared in my life.
Everything related to cars, metal and motor engines.
I may or may not have to dissapoint some people with it, but I am not going to be a dev I guess.
It was all fun and chill. Do not worry. I am not going to leave this awesome place haha, just felt like mentioning it. :)8 -
The leader in a dev team should be the BEST DEVELOPER
Not the one with "leadership" or "strong ownership" skills and "team player" or "go getter" attitudes. This is euphemism for promoting someone just because you like them, or because of their charisma.
There are many other industries where charisma can play a role in leadership but software is not one of them. To build good software we need to be objective thinkers, not influencers.15 -
There's a tech job fair happening today, and I either have to leave work early or just not come to work at all to be able to go there. I really wanna get a new job, and I might regret it if I don't go there. Should I not come to work?20

How well can bash be used on windows?
i've used it a bit now and it seems to work really well, but i'm wondering if it's possible to efficiently and fully work on it. Are there any drawbacks or missing functionallity that is a must for development but not implemented (yet) in bash ?
i'll be forced to work on windows and i'm wondering which option is better - VM or bash?12 -

I love it when I see posts on any social media site or app where it's like
"Looking for someone to hack a <insert social site> account"

Do they think it's as easy as CSI makes it out to be?

Maybe they're the police trying to trick us -
I am not overly excited about my team, the team lead, my manager, my managers manager, my managers co-managers or my managers manager manager.
Further, I am not that confident that management actually became management due to competence. I now believe that management got to be management because they think (wrongly) alike. This is not a comfortable thing to dwell on.5 -

Hi everyone... first time posting....Ive been struggling at work and have failed to finish multiple tasks given to me... I fear because of this, my job will be in jeopardy. Although I ask for help, it seems I am still unable to finish the given task. This leads to me believing I'm not smart enough or cut to be a software developer and also lead me to think that it's better if I just quit as I'm just dead weight for my team. I'm not sure what to do.6

Question, how would you build the ultimate "I don't want to be dependent on Google or Facebooks services" setup?
IE, not using Gmail for e-mail, not using Google maps for, well, maps. Etc.
Im realy curious to see how the ultimate open source/not dependent on any big corporation harvesting userdata, ecosystem would look like. :)9 -
Okay guys.. I am so lost! I want to be a developer but can't decide on a certain area. Like should I be a web developer or mobile app? If I am a web developer, should I concentrate on front end or back end.. If mobile app developer.. Should I focus on Android or iOS or cross platform?
I really can't decide what to do and what to learn? Feels like to learn everything and at the end not learning actually anything.
Any suggestions guys? I will be really grateful!7 -
Ok... Able to pry myself away from fallout 76 and fire up for some programming...
Van't decide whether I want to build my game engines debug and root dev tools how I thought, thinking of building the engine to almost behave like a VM but not quite, it still is compiled just like a normal game but has a built in developer terminal that actually acts like an extra operating system/BIOS that can be left to boot the games assets and everything like you would have for an end user or the startup can be interupted to initialise the terminal prior to everything being loaded...
Following the osdev Wiki tutorials to actually build the dev terminal itself but just unsure whether or not to impliment this system the way I think or not... Opinions?1 -
...by saying "so what?!"
Either my fears that I'm not good enough to be where I am are founded, in which case I need to be thankful for this opportunity to be "above my station" so to speak, and work hard to make sure I *do* deserve to be there.
...or they're unfounded, in which case I need to work hard to do the best job I can.
In either case, it doesn't change the outcome, so worrying about it is futile. Heck, even go one step further - shoot for the jobs you *think* are above your station, and then see what comes of it. -

sometimes I feel that the pay should be based on how much you contributed to the project not by the titles or your highest education level.

Any good advice for managing junior developers?
In my experience I have found that loose definitions of work to be completed yields poor results. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if I have to write the code structure and leave a bunch of TODO comments for people to fill in.
Or alternatively people get going on tangents without thinking of the concrete problem given.
Or go try building generic abstractions that are unneeded and will not be reused complicating even the simplest use case.
Maybe the problem is in me and that I am not clear in communicating what's needed. What techniques do you guys use to get more or less what you want?7 -

I'm currently starting to develop a simple web app to access a database, just simple read, write, update stuff. Doesn't need to be fancy or anything, just work.
Now I asked a PHP dev I know for help and he told me I should use Symfony and Easy Admin Bundle. I'm not sure rn if it'd be worth it to get to know how to work with frameworks or not. What do you guys think?
Btw, I'm not planning on doing a lot more web development.3 -
So I don't even know if I should be mad;
person hired at the same time as me has been given a kind of manager title, they do a lot of logistical (trello, department liaison) stuff, in addition to code. Were they promoted to manager? Or have they just given a bunch of non-code stuff to do, and I should be thrilled not to be bothered with it? -

Why is it so difficult to tell the people to not use the same passwords everywhere? I thought of a service which searches all leaked databases and predicts a password based on that as a warning for the user... Having the program told you that your password the user is likely to enter would be XY, because the adobe OR MySpace OR Dropbox passwords for the email OR username entered was that password could be a bit more aggressive but useful to let the users at least think of secure passwords.1

Need Recommendation : Reader.
Planning to start reading again after quite some time.
What's the simplest(cheapest) reader can I go for?
-Should not strain eyes.
-portable.
-Don't need any fancy feature (not even WIFI or market place)
-I do already have epubs of most books that I want to read.
-Should be able to bookmark
-while a built-in dictionary & light would be great, its not a necessity.
Dont want to get something higher end unless I get:
- Improved pdf experience.
- Hassle free way to read manga/comics. (mainly manga)7 -
How do you train someone to be a programmer fast? (No not like a 'learn to code in a weekend' thing.) Books? Throw them in the deep end? Work with them side by side for a while?
We will be hiring a guy as a programmer. He is very tech/computer savvy, but literally 0 school or work experience programming. I've known him for a little while and honestly trust he'll try to learn but I feel with as little as he knows he is going to get overwhelmed fast. He is not technically under me but it's going to be my responsibility to train him.
I'm worried he's going to get completely overwhelmed and burn out quickly.15 -

Question:
For a real time chat (web) app. Whats the best technology to use for this? I dont want the chats to have delays or glitches (in case it gets sent but not delivered etc).
Backend stack is java spring boot
How about kafka? Or rabbitmq? Or socket.io? Should i use redis? Should i use AWS SQS? Talking about cloud what AWS tools should i be using to handle this the best way?
Note: it must be scalable. Meaning if i wanted to extend this software more by building a mobile app (aside from web), i should be able to use the same backend easily
Note 2: it is not ONLY a chat app. Chatting is just 1 out of many functionalities. So chatting is not the main component of the project just a side thing
Keep in mind the backend is a microservice architecture etc. Database postgresql.14 -
I'm going to be making a table library (think DataTables)
So for those web dev gurus, should I render the data to a basic <table> or should I use CSS grids?

They said that they'll be sending a programming test but I haven't heard back from them since about a week. I'm having this bad feeling that my application has been rejected.
What would be a good way to email them back asking how the interview went and whether they will be moving forward with my application or not?2 -

It's not often that I yell, or even write in all caps. And it would be very nice to be able to write in red, all caps, bold text but there's something that I would really like to say, or rather yell, to || at my systems development teacher (and a bunch of other people), and it's this:

I'm really really really really really really tired of listening to "probably" and "maybe" and "there's a chance that" about shit where those words shouldn't be applicable. I personallbery don't like OP superpowers like perfect coding or time-bending. They have to be either not OP or über OP. So here's an idea. Having control over things you understand. Depending on how much you know you're either just a normie or the most powerful being on the planet. And you still experience the joy of learning new things. AND you're getting more powerful because of it.
You can be exactly the dev you want to be.1 -
Hey guys,
I have to Select my Bachelor thesis/topic in the next few days. I would like to do something with Crypto Currencies especially with the Blockchain System. There is a wide range of usage for that and i Think it could be very interesting.
The Problem is that am Not Really Sure what Topic or challenge my Project could contain. There is much to say about it but i dont Think it would be enough to just describe it.
There should be a Problem or anything like that I can solve..
Or Is it possible to just Analyse the blockchain and the affect it have These Days and the Future?
I would appreciate a few ideas or suggestions :)

archeological work is painful and difficult
people in industry don't seem to emphasize/warn how much archeological work there is in being a code monkey
or are there jobs that don't involve it? i imagine the skill remains essential
greenfield work to be the exception not the norm, and start up life is hell and a gamble
interview process seems to completely disregard this, as i imagine it'd be difficult to assess, unlike leetcoding linked lists or code golfing stuff without using data structures, or whatever awful things they ask for in leetcode hards or whatever3 -

(0. First off, being a job I'd like — native software development that is — and not having to default to some boring backend job because "mUh WeB's EvRyThInG TodAy")
1. If the commute isn't too long I have no much problem working in office I think, but I want this to be clear: you let me work with the tools I want. Things like CI are understandably imposed, but let me choose whatever IDE/editor, Git client, etc.
Otherwise off to work from home where no one can check
2. Not having assholes colleagues (obnoxious, stupid, interrupting…)
3. A decent pay. Not high or minimum, just what I'm worth
4. Not drowning in meetings. I want to take part to them to clarify some things and understand what's going on, but I don't think I need more than 2 a day. Ah, and let me tell what's wrong if there's anything
5. Be basically respected. I don't want to be overvalued, that can be embarrassing, but I don't want my work to be completely ignored2 -

A question guys, I'm looking for a DB client. We are using SQL Management Server Studio, but its way way overkill for a frontend guy like me.
Min Requirements:
- Needs to be simple

- GUI should be reasonably modern
- Should also be native. Our database is a denormalized mess.6 -
