A mass of "if" statements isn't AI!16 -

Israeli government hackers hacked into Kaspersky’s network in 2015 and caught Russian government hackers red-handed hacking US government hackers with the help of Kaspersky.
In other words — Russia spying on America, Israel spying on Russia and America spying on everyone.10 -
Yes, you fucking retards, I will read this article about logging in NodeJS when the cover photo

Your old uncle : I bought an internet but Google isn't working.
You search the house and there isn't even a smell of internet connection, not even subscription line...2 -
My younger sister has to write a story for her assignment and she isn't getting any ideas . So I suggested this :
A story about a kid who has to write a story but isn't getting any ideas ,so he writes a story about a kid who has to write a story but isn't getting any ideas ,so he writes a story about a kid who has to write a story but isn't getting any ideas... till 200 words.10 -
So ppl are saying that js isn't a programming language cuz you don't need to compile it, so that means python and php isn't programming either..?13

Dunning-Kruger effect is strong with me.
Thankfully, one of the most important skills that I learned is active listening. I am less vocal about my silly thoughts and shitty opinions these days.
I don't feel dumb. Instead, I realise that I AM dumb.
The people in my new org are exceptionally smart and talented. Each everyone is a hand picked gem. This isn't a coincidence. Rather it's evident that they hire folks very carefully.
In my previous org, I used to be the one driving everything. Like the smartest guy in the room.
But here, I am just quiet in every meeting and I enjoy working 12 hours a day. I am the dumbest guy in the room surrounded by people who are brilliant and humble.
I truly feel fortunate and grateful to be part of such an amazing org and wonderful team. One of the best decisions I made in my career and life.8 -
You know this isn't going to happen ,I know that this isn't going to happen but still, we can dream and fantasies about it ha ha ha fuckking bullshit11

IT Head: Hey, can you check out why application X isn't working? I've already restarted it and it isn't working anymore.
Me: sure.
Me 20 mins later: hey, looks like it is all good, website is normal, server resources are normal, etc...
IT Head: no no, the windows sync app isn't working.
Me inside: are you fucking kidding me you piece of stupid shit? Quit IT for good and die.3 -
How long should I watch the senior engineer get frustrated that the emulator hardware isn't working before I tell him it isn't plugged in? It's only been 45 minutes so far... 😂1

!dev-ish
I hate whenever people take hobbies and other things that aren't personality traits and try to make it a personality trait.
Your sexuality isn't a personality trait.
Your diet (looking at you *obnoxious* vegans) isn't a personality trait.
Coding isn't a personality trait.
Your race isn't a personality trait.
I'mma end this rant with a !rant tho.
I know they're obnoxious asf but oh my God mechanical keyboards are one of the most amazing sounds on this earth. Sometimes I'll type just to hear that beautiful sound.10 -
PM: we don't want longpress events, it is way better to clutter up the ui with checkboxes or toggles ... Users love toggling toggles

Found this on Facebook... Should I be the one to tell them that apple didn't invent emoji and that the flags are all of countries?
I'm Australian and respect our natives but... Really?14 -
When they announce a new feature in a video that goes live today, but the feature isn't build yet. It isn't build yet because they never told the IT department that it should go live today. So now I'm stuck hotfixing it.1

Was in our mail today... It's a magazine where you can take evening classes in the IT branch. Who can see the error? It can be found without speaking french. Here is the translation of the headline: Application programming in Java.
(Hint: Web development was on another page.)3 -
I was underestimated about tech skills and earning, because I use PHP at work. I agree that PHP sucks and it's used by a lot of developers who don't know how it works. But the legacy systems I work on now compose a platform used by more than 400K users. In addition, I used to use C++ for game programming and Java for web systems. Also I'm playing with Node.js and javascript for my personal projects. In my experience, I don't think PHP is easy to make things work as expected. Plus, I don't get low salary compared to the others in this region. It's always very hard to explain how I'm working as a PHP developer. At the moment of underestimation, I was feeling so bad, but I couldn't say anything. It might lead a religious argue. Any advice?22

Holy Mother of casts.
Just stumbled across a line that started with (((((( because it has so many casts in it...

DevRant has increased my asshole-ery. Reading work design docs and I keep thinking, "really? That's your choice? Obviously this is a joke. You expect us to do what?? In what timeframe?"2

Yet another thing i think is fucking stupid.. GDPR btw.
So, a guy in Denmark owns a grocery store and has an issue with people stealing from him a lot the last couple of years. He catches them on tape and shares it on social media to try and prevent it.
Im not sure why it didn't work to go to the cops, but it didn't.
What the owner ended up doing, was hang a note on the front of the store so people could see it before they entered, see attached image.
However, now he has been notified what hes doing is illegal, because the "user" doesn't consent clearly enough.
I dont understand GDPR, but if you do, you're probably gonna find mistakes in what i wrote.
Source for story: https://bt.dk/erhverv/...
Its his fucking store, if people steal from him he should be allowed to post it on pornhub if that was his desire.
It's illegal to kill someone, but if you're threatened on your life, you may kill in selfdefense.
To me, those are the same, just one is on a much more serious level of course.
Fuck me.13 -
CoWorker: so when are you going to be out?
Me: taking 1 week off Oct 1. I need a break from production issues and all these critical tasks...
CW: ah OK yea, you deserve it. So where you going?
Me: well I'm planning to just stay home unless the weather is really nice. I'm going to try React Native to build a mobile app and maybe look for some open source projects... O yes gotta look into my investments too...
CW: Oohhhh... Ok.... (We go on talking about Trump and why somehow the markets haven't crashed yet...)2 -
Let's have a meeting to find out why something isn't working, when we're already trying to figure out why it isn't working.1

If coding is fun then your job (Backend Developer) should be fun right?
No.
You have to setup projects which isn't fun.
You have to setup tools which isn't fun.
You have to write unit tests which isn't fun.
You have to learn to use some frameworks which may not be fun.6 -
Prediction: One of the things Microsoft will do to GitHub is to remove gh-pages and make sure you can host stuff on azure, since gh-pages only supports html files, so with azure, you can host a server-sided app.1

So yesterday I installed Arch. Well, sort of. So far the GUI isn't configured so it's literally less convenient than an equally unconfigured TTY. But I'm getting there, today I connected to a secure Wi-Fi network. Tomorrow I expect to install something for power efficiency and start configuring stuff/creating a proper DE. Last time, when I stripped down Ubuntu and installed i3wm there, the first thing that bothered me was the lack of a wallpaper so I never got to issues like the keyring not unlocking, the x11 default font being two physical pixels tall, or added peripherals not being handled. This time my plan is to solve every issue as soon as I get there. For this reason I'll use a queue for managing my tasks rather than a stack like Google Keep.10

I got my new(to me) MacBook Pro last week, provided by work. I've got all my setup and config done, for the most part, and I've noticed something.
Performance is shit. Has anyone else noticed this about the 2017 and later models? The 2015 model I had before was much, much smoother. Just zooming windows, a previously butter-smooth experience, is noticeably choppy. I/O performance is garbage too. I have a small iotest script that just writes a string a couple hundred times to disk, deletes it, and repeats this activity 100,000 times. On my Linux machine at home with six year old hardware, this takes about three seconds. On my new system76 laptop it takes just over a second. On the 2017 MacBook Pro, it takes about forty seconds.
The 2017 and 2018 models are a direct downgrade in performance. Why isn't anyone talking about this?10 -
Creating a way to manage an arbitrary number of SQL conditions in C# has to be the most frustrating thing I've done.

Me: Why isn't this working?!
Normal languages: You screwed up over here.
Me: oh thanks
Me: Why isn't this working?
Javascript: 🙂
Me: Please I beg you tell me.
Javascript: 🙂2 -
I hate arrow functions in ES6! Whenever I see them, I get acute code dyslexia and can't read shit. What the fuck is wrong with writing function, why change it for some unreadable series of symbols?10

I'm having the dawning realization, reading the utf specification and thinking "parsing the data files isn't too hard..." that the little side project on a side project on a side project isn't going to be finished until like, Christmas.
Fuck.7 -
Any laptop suggestions? My budget is around £400, preferably AMD but Intel is acceptable
RAM isn't an issue as I have a spare 4GB ram stick
It's mainly just for programming, so a fancy GPU isn't important15 -
I'm so used to watching all websites with the dev tools open, that when I finally close it, they all look skewed to the right and not centeret.
Oh well, that's just a part of the game I guess -
Yes I know that's too many points this sprint.
I understand you have to have all the things.
No I can't move the stories out bc you gave us a hard deadline for the release. -
I don't know, if it was mentioned before (probably was), but there isn't any option to create a female avatar with short hair.
:( The one with the "military" cut isn't really a good one.5 -
I think the thing that sucks about high school (or school in general, really) is that they don't really have many opportunities for the people that like to program or do anything with computers.
The only classes that have to do with computers at all (In my high school) is Intro to Programming (Which is what I'm taking, which has HTML, CSS and JavaScript), some computer science classes and finally the Cyber-patriot team. (Which is for Navy ROTC and it consists of Cyber Security, competitions and actual Linux computers).
The only few of eight classes I find actually interesting is Intro to Programming, NJROTC, and Plant Science. (Because not only the subjects, but the teachers (and Sergeant) actually make it fun, interesting and easy to understand, while the rest don't feel like they're doing a good job.)4 -
A year ago was my last rant post, now I'm back around the same dates, that's curious, isn't it?
BTW here are also # functions? I have been on twitter for a long time, I acquired some bad habits! 😅4 -
Horror story and rant time I guess...
I haven't seen the main developer of this MVC project that I've been working on but I can totally assure that his seniority isn't in frontend development 😠 and I doubt the backend too... Fucking DataTables converted to IDictionaries<string, object>
Guess who need to build on top of the pile of shit!
Anyway, I wasn't really careful about what kind of template I was given to work on a new SPA page, so I'm doing the job given the time, but it's fucking gory:
- matrioska style layers (n.3) without documentation
- partials everywhere
- too much inline styling
- too many <style> sections (n per layer or partial)
- too many <script> sections (n per layer or partial)
- poor CSS styling or no styling at all! (classes without any style nor js association)😠
He's just been lucky that the browser is capable of handling his shit
Now that at the end of this year I'll leave this project (solo fullstack) and need to provide documentation for the next poor souls I was thinking to leave behind something at par of my skills and capabilities but analysing the current mess ticks my brain in a bad way, fuck you Marco!
Fuck you
and your seniority
and the Italian way of perceiving seniority that gives you a higher living in the wrong side of the field 🤬🤬🤬2 -
I'm about to give a presentation to IBM engineers on a subject I don't really know much about and for which I haven't practice
It's going to be a nice day3 -
Anyone got a way of wrapping a .net library in an excel addin that isn't shit?
Or at least, than isn't any more shit than an excel addin needs to be?3
