The sell: “become a designer, change the world”
The reality: “become a designer, create Jira tickets for devs to fix stuff you’ve noticed” -
I've run into problems with the app I'm working on, the problems are related to issues regarding code.
No in fact it's related the last guy who wrote the app, the code has no comments and the variable names make no sense, the only comments in the code are blocks of code... With no reason as to why it was commented.
I have to add in some checks to determine if a person that has logged in is a full member or not (full member has access to the feature I've added) and the way the guy has made this app works makes no sense to me at all.
I've tried my best to avoid all contact with his code because it makes me want to yell out in frustration.
But for this one case I have to work with what's there.
I know I've mentioned this before but I've hit my limit yet again.
And for those who don't know this guy managed to scrape together skeleton code from two apps to make part of this app, rather than using parts of the other apps he left out code that was specifically made for the other apps, (majority of the commented out code).
One app was a taxi app and from the looks of it the feature he used was to get GPS location (which I don't understand before Google maps is a think after all... The taxi app USES Google maps), the other app is some sort of funeral webcasting app (I found code imports for it, without any actual code).
I don't actual understand how this guy could put this together without not thinking "maybe this is a bad idea"
Always code as if the person who ends up maintaining your code is a violent psychopath who knows where you live
I'm that psychopath right now..... Fuck that guy (don't know where he lives though)1 -
Me: I want to be a developer so I can make useful software that will help people!

I can't wait for connectors to become genderfluid.
Or someone complaining about sockets being called "female".15 -

Don't know what the exact deal with Microsoft's Edgy Explorer but ffs, everytime I open it to check how something is rendered it prompts to be default then gets salty when declined and pops the control panel, suggesting it as default...13

Offshore contractors have become so painful to work with recently, we have since dubbed them 'off chore'.1

Both become useless when you open windows -
Serverless will become increasingly prevalent.
Javascript will become even more prevalent than it already is.
I make no comment on whether I think the above are *good* evolutions, however. -
you can be a very good developer and still be a shitty person. Same energy you put in to become good as a software engineer, also put in same energy to become less of a shitty person.4

That is strange. I have become developer at 27. Well, I 've decided to become a developer, to be honest, started to learn C++. I have tried lot's of things before: sale things, play bass guitar, copyrighting, driving a bulldozer. All reactions towards my choises was negative, and descision to become developer, programmer was like: "ok, do it"4

I get it, I didn't read up before I acted, but seriously?
"Starting with Firefox version 67 each Firefox installation requires a separate profile."
Then I went to uninstall the new version of Firefox so I could stay with the old. It uninstalled the old version. Now I have a version of Firefox with no uninstall option that won't talk to my old profile. I found options for this, but really? Is firefox becoming a shit hole now? Have I just noticed that it already was a shit hole?
Pissed, thinking of going over the Edge...5 -

!Rant && !!CS
Today I had to go to school on Saturday because it 's visitor day, when pupuil from elementary school visit our school to decide where to go. My CS teacher asked me to present CS-lessons, so I did. It was much fun showing and explaining our projects to the parents and their children. After the event my teacher suggested me to become a teacher (because I did so well ;-) ) and I am really thinking about it right now. Maybe it is the right choice for me...1 -
I guess it's my third or the fourth company that am currently changing.
I have the will to improve and write better code quality level up. But sometimes i guess i have the lack to find the how to do these stuff and how to practice and who is going to tell me that i have to change these lines of code so you can improve am just in a big mess and i feel so bad about it.
Now i had just received a new warning at my current company that i either improve or i get fired. So i have been searching over google and internet how to improve as well i had just created a new project for the will to practice and become better.
Can someone tell me what i should do?
How to fix everything and let my colleagues gain my trust in my code commits ?
Because literally i feel so bad about everything and you can't imagine how miserable i feel.3 -
I wonder what percentage of developers are actually extroverted salesmen and can thus become a consultant...3

When you google something you saw in a google ad instead of clicking it and feel badass for outsmarting them...1

Very vague and large question but: How do you become better in terms of software development / engineering?
For context my current job is pretty good but sometimes it lacks challenges, I’m interested in how people become better out of the work scope I guess.7 -
My model for one part of my project has become so crazy big I’m become lost every time I add a new feature or debug :-/

What would you all be doing if you hadn't become developers?

@AleCx04 I think you are a fat person. People hate what they cannot become. You cannot become thin. Thus you hate children and wonder why anyone would like girls.

What programming language is looking to become the "next Python" or something. I've heard of plenty of new languages, but which of them are actually going become significant, a.k.a "worth picking up as a secondary language".13

Blumix still hasn't deployed.
