If Programming Languages Were Girls:
Java: Your current girlfriend, you've been going steady for a while now. Things are okay.
Kotlin: The girl Java finds you cheating on, she's just amazing, and you wish you'd met her sooner.
Visual Basic: The girl you accidentally started a relationship with because you didn't know how to say no. But quickly realised your mistake and regretted it.
JavaScript: A childhood friend you occasionally hook up with. But you could never settle for a relationship with them.
Python: A bossy, manipulative girl who quickly turned things sour. But everyone else loves her because of her huge libraries.

My and a co worker were joking the other day about what programming languages would be like if they were girls. This is what we came up with (Original inspiration: the Distracted Boyfriend meme (Feel free to add your own!)).49 -

I have not used c++ in almost 2 years. I'm regaining familiarity with it.
I come from 2 years of Java and python.
I'm ranting a lot about some things, but damn, pointers and stuff are so sexy.14 -
Everyone should start with C rather than java/C#/python (or alike). Much easier to move from C to java than the opposite42

I know python , JS, java etc. Some might know php, some others might swift and so on.. but the only language understood by everyone all over the globe is this 😂(wait for it to load, and you will believe what I'm saying :P )10

Divorced Ruby (only thing she has is her beauty)
Married Java(powerful but hard to cope up with)
In love with Python (Powerful and beautiful)

In an Affair with C# (Like java but easier to deal with)
😂😂
#Love gone wrong 😝

Why is Java so comfy?
I don't know why, but every time I try to use Javascript and Python I feel lost in those functional gimmicks and fancy libraries.
Java feels like the warm, soft old couch at home.9 -
Just started learning python and here is my experience so far
I had started programming with C++ but since I wanted to venture into the fullstack domain (upto some extent, circumstances played a major role), I switched to java and boy was I in love with it.. Spring boot was my life and I had written several applications on it currently running on production.. One of them was crawling tweets and getting some insights out of them.. Today when I started with python, I found a tutorial (link at the end of the post) that almost did the same thing..
Within 2-3 hours and some very basic lines of codes I could achieve exactly what java would have taken at least a week to do.. Python for sure is a good thing..
Probably I am still in my very adolescent stage of learning, but python does seem a very good option worth considering.. Though for now, I would stick to java for writing useful code..

When Java is your first language and you are learning python as your second: 90% of errors due to your fingers automatically adding ; at the end of every line of code. :/10

No method overloading... and they say JAVA is a shitty language.24 -

If I have a bug in my Java program, please don't tell me "Use Python. It has a library for that, you can do it in 2 lines".
Motherfucker, I'm not asking for a solution in Python, nor am I asking you to pick my language for me. The rest of the project is in JVM languages, and I'm not gonna rewrite the whole damn thing so i can use your precious little script-kiddie language
If I show you Java code, I don't want Python. I never want Python. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS FLUFFY, STOP TRYING TO FORCE-FEED ME PYTHON14 -

In my previous rants I used to shit all over Python.
Now, I am regretting those rants.
After giving up a on "writing Java with Python syntax", and learning to write the pythonic way, it finally clicked for me, and now I really like it!4 -
Don't start teaching them in a language with a lot of overhead (Java). They spend too much time memorizing the class/method stuff before they even get there. Use python instead.10
-
So I'm in HS CS and some of us know how to code, and the others are struggling with variables (in python).
One of them asks: "Sir, why are doing python? I heard about java and how it changed the internet and stuff"
So naturally my teacher explains the difference (between JS and Java, in case your captain of the USS dumbass), but then described JS in the best way possible:
"JavaScript is basically the California of programming, its a really weird place where people mix everything up and nothing makes sense"4 -
I hate when idiots make assumptions without basis. My company so higher up idiots decided not to use Python. I said why they said it’s not scalable. I asked have anyone of you ever wrote micro service which can handle millions request every hours? Have you ever wrote service in Python? Have you ever worked on Python? Architect said but Python doesn’t have type support? I said there is use Python3. He said I want to validate my request payload. I told have you tried form and decorators. I told, I have 8 years experience. I worked in every language and I one has advantage over others depending on situation. Then they said, but we want only Java as finding resources is easy. I said have you checked git Python overtook Java in case resources, you are outdated. I don’t want to leave company but even after so many argument these idiots just dropping Python and because of that I am loosing so many good resources.8
-
I’ve been programming with other languages than Python for so long that when I finally had to pick up Python to help teach my friend some python I felt like I was rediscovering a past life.
With Python I feel like King Fucking Arthur with the Holy Blade Excalibur, armored up and ready for fucking war.
When I’m writing a script I feel like I’m parrying and piercing my blade straight through that fuckers chest and slam them into the fucking ground. And leave their bleeding out cold dying body on the fucking ground with no hope in their eyes.
Although when an indentation error occurs I feel like I just fucking tripped over a fucking pebble and apparently stairs were nearby and I bash my head on all 1024 steps, get to the bottom to just to get some fucking Java Chad punt my fucking head like a fucking football screaming random reasons to not use python.7 -
I started learning python tonight to knock out some quick assignments, coming from a Java/C#/C background.
Must resist urge to put semicolons and brackets everywhere. -
PersonX: Dude, I hate coding in Java. Wish we could do things in python for this project.
Me: welcome to the inner circle my friend.
*After taking a look at his python skills*
Me: I'm going to freaking kill this idiot using his own company provided laptop. -
Why do most Java programmers know Java and nothing else? Wtf, every time find myself reviewing crappy Bash/Python/JavaScript/Ruby shit written by Java-only programmers I want to puke. Don't you know that the world is bigger than your small island?14

Some random coworker has been asked to setup tests for the framework written in Java and the GUI is a web app that comes with the framework.
Since he doesn't know any language we work in, he decided he would do it in Python. When I asked him why introduce Python and he replied with "it doesnt matter which language it is because it is going to run on selenium"
I told him to either use Java or Javascript for selenium because when he leaves we should be able to maintain the tests and not first figure out what the hell you wrote in Python
He didnt understand and is going to go with Python anyway8 -
Hello, I can code a "hello world program" in Java, Python,C,C++,C#,Ruby, nodejs and in HTML do I qualify to be here?5

TLDR Question:
When do you consider yourself an expert at a language?
More details: there is a really cool Data Science internship opening up near me that I want so badly it physically hurts me, but it asks for expert level knowledge of python, Java, or R.
I’ve only been studying R and Java for like 3 months, and Python for about 8 months, so I’m obviously no expert. When exactly does someone reach that threshold, though? When did you realize you were an expert at a language?13 -
C : Cool (for me)
Java : Just A Variety Available (uhm.. no hard feelings java lovers)
Python : Please .. You THink On Nothing (You literally think on nothing xD )

Python does not have ++

Python and java tests in college? Both on paper, so you can only write your code once, using a pen, and you can't debug it or modify it. Awesome right... Smh11

New developers. Tip: There is no silver bullet.
If you like Python, please understand GIL's behavior before making a system that handles thousands of requests.
If you like Java, know that "Write once, run anywhere" is a fallacy. Even application servers don't like the same WAR.
If you like PHP, understand the life cycle of a request before connecting to the database from all corners.
If you like C#, don't make it a small command-line application that will be used on FreeBSD.
If you like C, meet valgrind.
If you like C++, templates are cool, but don't overdo it. And take the opportunity to meet valgrind.
Never use the same tool to do everything. Elect the language and framework for the given need with rationality.
Every time I see a "Java Man", a "C++ Chad" or anything like that, it comes to mind that if he were a carpenter, he would be tightening screws with hammers.
Every lock-in is bad.11 -
Biggest annoyance of favorite language:
Python has no static type checking. I know that is not something that is intended for Python. It's just that I enjoy the syntax, but would love the type-safety of something like Kotlin/Java12 -

Me: I think I will kill him today in his sleep.4 -
My intern was trained on 1 semester of Java, followed by 2 of Python, so there’s been several conversations at the office that boil down to:
“What’s *not* to love about Python? It’s easy to pick up, and forgiving as hell!”
“What’s *to* love about Python? I like being able to understand how my code is structured!”
As a WordPress shop, the discussion is moot, of course...4 -
Tried learning python like over 10 times from the basics. No success!
Being a Java developer for about 5 years, I think I can't live without semicolons 😂3 -

Why does every Software Engineering role at the top companies never have PHP or any functional languages in it’s list of languages they want you to be experienced in?
It’s always Java, Python, C#, C/C++, Objective C or Ruby. What about Elixir, Scala, Haskell or Clojure?9 -
I'm new guy in programming. Sometimes I do compare java with python and I have weird conclusion.
Python code is shorter but for me much more "logical" & easier to read is Java. Maybe it due to fact that I don't understand what is going on under hood so shorter code feels incomplete?14 -
Which framework can jump the most?

Which framework can store hot water?

Which framework is believed to cause extinction of dinosaurs?

There is something so comfy about Java that I never get from other languages.
I don't know why but I genuinely enjoy writing 200 lines of boilerplate code. Maybe it makes me feel I am in control and not some syntactic magic like in Python or Javascript.
People keep ranting on java, yet it lives on.2 -

The programming teacher was interested in Python, so I showed him what a script we made in Java would look like in Python, and he was so impressed he is thinking about completely changing the learning plan stuff to teach Python instead of Java. Now I'm not sure if I should've done that, because I was interested in the Java stuff and things and the other classmates would probably be completely confused if we take such a turn. :S8

Most of the universities in my country for computer science, are based on java, c++ and some another stuff.
What should I do? Should I start learning C++ / Java or continue using python?10 -
1) Keep improving Java skills
2) Keep learning Python
3) Learn Docker
4) Finally use my Raspberry Pi -

Python haters, gather 'round
oh come on... In java it's all simple as 123. You build an app, you have like 200 dependencies, you pack it all in a single fat jar and only deploy that single .jar. Don't need no internet, no installs, no pip, no nothing: just your .jar file and the JVM.
So java:
- build an app
- use 200+ deps
- build your whole project into a single fat jar
- deploy your jar in the env
- install [*khem khem* scp into the server] jre
- run
Now let's look at py, shall we?
- build an app
- use 1 dep
- deploy all the 20 .py files in the env
- make sure you have internet access
- install python
- install pip
- pip install <my dependency>
- run your app15 -
Happy New Year!
This year I am going to learn new programming languages and they are: Python, Java/JavaScript, C/C#/C++ and the Linux Terminal.
I can't wait!11 -
Why people are saying Python is an easy language? I mean yes, if you write c/java code with python it may seem easy, but writing proper python code, in a pythonic way is not so easy.
SO DON'T TELL PEOPLE THAT'S IT EASY LANGUAGE because new commers later they come with absurd code and ask people to fix it.7 -
everything was going great, I was loving it,
then self happens
why should one pass self (current object refrance) to the constructor in python , why doesn't this keyword exist in python.
coming from java I always forget to add it.
just WHY?????9 -
I might sound ridiculous but yeah, I am switching from C++ to java.
reason: I am bored sticking to a single language for 4 years.
Why not python?
reason: I use it every second day at my work.
Why this(java) shit? There are tons of other languages out there.
reason: java gives me PLEASURE
How drunk are you?

So I've been self teaching myself Python, which I've loved learning. However I hit a wall. I'm terrible with large project ideas, which has brought everything to a halt.
Being that I loved learning python, I'm thinking of picking up a second language to fill the void & expand my knowledge. I've dabbled a little bit in Java & Haskell. Go looks pretty interesting.
In your opinion what would be a good complementary language to Python?8 -
I am interested in learning Ruby sometime in the future.
Already know Python, Java and Javascript(including Node).

Found that
Python was released before Java did.

They call Python, C, Java, Ruby, and stuff like that programming 'LANGUAGES' for a reason. I just wrote a Python dictionary literal in my C# code and was clueless as to why it was failing to compile for five minutes straight. Maybe that was because I was working with Python like 30 minutes ago.
It's like I have to have one 'brain' per one language and need to switch between such 'brains' to write code in another language. And such switches take time.5 -

I refused to get into python pretty long but yesterday it happend. I got the py. :')
Coming from Java/Netbeans I tried installing it again (for personal projects), but since Apache took over and Java 10 got released I never seemed to be able to accomplish a clean IDE install.. I gave up while I wanted to turn a current python programmer to java and, again, Netbeans fckd me over. I tried IntelliJ again afterwards but Netbeans seemingly fcked over the whole JDK installation too, so I gave up for real.
Everyone in my vicinity told me about python and it's coolness. I just.. no.
No {}, no semicolons, indentations are relevant... idk. I did not want to, but some part of me still wanted to try it. I want to work in the infosec branche so it definetly should be one of my interests shouldn't it?
So I tried yesterday, installed PyCharm and in literaly minutes (of course with trusty Stack Overflow behind me) I had a Qt based GUI which functioned as a basic webbrowser. I was intrigued. Well, I took like 100 times that time to get a working .exe out of my .py with all dependencies, but with the help of mentioned python friend I also got this to work. Python is cool now, I guess... ;b -

Yesterday I spent almost 3 hours trying to sort an array of objects in java. I'm a person who has written a lot of python and dart code and java is just so daunting. Every simple thing is so complicated.
You can sort a list of objects wrt any parameter using a one liner in python.
Finally after copy pasting a lot of code from stack overflow the thing got sorted. And the worst part I don't even know how the thing works.4 -
First day in introduction to programming. We were the first course to learn Python instead of Java. The whole lecture consisted only of what Python is good for and how powerful it is.
He finished with the statement: “... and in the real life, no one writes applications in Python.“6 -
I learned to code by trying too automate things. I started out with Windows batch and moved up to Java before I discovered the magic of C, C++, Python, and now Swift1
-
which language should I learn to python or java ?.
I have knowledge of both the languages but I want to learn one fully.6 -
I want to learn a new backend-language, but can't decide which one.
I already know Go and have basic knowledge of Python and Java.
Which one should I learn?
Doesn't matter what kind of language.12 -
I know some C++. What should I really learn next Python or Java?
I want to be able to make a meaningful project as soon as possible.(with Java as I can see I have SpigotPlugins, and with Python I have Telegram Bots).
Sorry for asking for advice here but idk what to do.26 -
I got exams coming up but all I want to do I get my hands dirty with kotlin, python and learn the java design patterns 😭1
-
Stop making fun of different programming languages
C is fast
Java is popular
Ruby is cool
Python is beautiful
Haskell is Intriguing
Javascript is ________14 -
I'm studying atm and I survived Haskell, SKI, ... now, in the second semester we started with Python (yeay ♡) and Java (that's fine).
One of the first exercises is about installing Jython ('cause it's good, right? /sarcasm off), using the lecturer's module and write some code for it. It's about painting some shitty graphics *gasp*...
I use PyCharm (not really necessary for these crappy exercises) and programming on Windows and/or Linux.
Downloaded Jython, installed it, set it as interpreter - works fine (win10, pycharm).
Some students got weird errors using linux - for me it's the same but meh Idc.
Today I tried using Jython on my notebook, too (win10, pycharm). Downloaded it from the Jython Project website. Can't update pip, can't run modules - error is about fckin charsets...
Some other student figured out - wrong version of Jython. The newer version has some bug fixes.
2.7.1 is the one and only - the download section of their website offers 2.7.0 as latest release...
So - how to know there is a version 2.7.1?
#1 version control website = Wikipedia
So... there is a blog, guy's writing about this release - this installer is hosted at maven central. Yeay. Obvious. Thanks.
Can't describe such stupidity - maybe it's the user again 😂 -
I fucking hate it when Java programmers hate on Python programmers! They believe Java is superb while Python is flawed. They talk about speed, speed, speed and speed!
Java programmers, why do you guys behave like assholes?27 -
I really love Django, but I feel like Python is not object oriented enough. I'm thinking about Play (the Java web framework). Any other suggestions?10
-
Had to port a python code some other guy wrote using opencv for some image processing stuff to Java. I thought "how tough can it be? Let's just try it out on python first just to verify the results", only to waste an entire fucking day trying to install opencv first and make it work and to add to it the crappy opencv documentation were no help. In the end I had to just give up on this shit and decide to just do the Java implementation which I later verified from the python guy's results.
-
Might be a minority here... But I really like Kdevelop for almost all of my programming needs.... Bash, Windows Batch, C, Java, Python.. You name it... Kdevelop's got my back! :)2
-
Right now im probably the only person using a {java spark, python, mysql, webassembly} stack and i dont know how to feel about this6
-
What linux distro do you guys use?
I was looking for a simple one to start with. For now i just use it for C, Java and some python.
What distro should I pick?21 -
Any other people here that find Python to be actually a harder language than Java? With Java it's much easier to keep track of your code and to track what variables refer to certain object types.
It feels like Python has much more quirks and feels therefore much more inconsistent as a language. Object oriented programming is more verbose with static methods and decorators being vague for example. This makes it harder to grasp concepts like design patterns and SOLID principles in Python imo.7 -
Going to broaden my skill set by learning Java. I come from a Python (also working on the front-end mandatories: JavaScript, CSS, ect...) background and I'm already cringing from the extra work in syntax with Java.1
-
Listening to a conversation between Juventus, Milan and Inter fans, it's like listening 3 programmers discuss who is the best language between Java, Python, and C#.
Of course, it's JS the best language :P :(1 -
Is it appropriate in terms of time, to learn c as your first language?
I mean, some of my classmates prefer to use python or java as their first language.
Help please, I need help9 -
Since MIT is giving free access to their courses online, I shall study Computer science web programming with Python and Java
as I thought it would be so cool to have a large snake round my neck as I drink coffee.2 -
Hi guys. jeez i have to say i mastered java and python those languages are easy if i keep this up i might be able to make my own api or get into java cryptography maybe show android app developers how to keep their source code safe from reverse engineers to be honest on android i started from python, to java to AIDE (android app), to android studio i even made my first lib file these aren't games im still learning i have like one project is like a clicker game lol6
-
Books, mostly. Never completed even one though. Started with VB6 a long time ago. Just wanted to create cool stuff. Then moved onto Java. Heck, even did J2ME. **shudders with horror** Now doing Android and Python mostly.

What is the best programming language for fintech - Python or Java?
Here's the graphic from Cleveroad's research: https://cleveroad.com/blog/...
What's your opinion?11 -
When someone says that a company is Java/Python/Ruby "shop", they are implying that company sells those programming languages instead of its products. Would you call macys/nordstorm a cottonshop? See how ridiculous that sounds!2
-
Hey erm, any idea to deal with the programmer who constantly suggests me to use python in everything?
I complain about Java the other day from my frustration on certain thing...(on security), then he keep telling me that "USE PYTHON " which I'm not interested......at the moment...
It is annoying.....12 -
C/C++ - complex, very fast, used for OS dev
Java - Comparatively easy, fast, used app dev
Python - very easy, comparitively slow, used for app dev
Then there is this boy
Rust - Just fucks you up10 -
Start new project today. After several years doing C# and Java, now i face new challenge with something that i never heard before.God, please give me strength to do this..
CKAN..Python..OSTicket..Laravel..nice to meet you. -
When I wrote count++ in Python and got syntax error. Darn!!! I just applied Java and C syntax again!2

Why in colleges people make groups I don't understand. wtf happens to people after hearing a python developer and website designers are not friends2
-
Scala is as horrible as Java. Been using Java at uni and once having discovered the simplicity and beauty of other languages (Python, golang), never went back.
Currently trying some apache projects (kafka streams, apache flink) where Scala is native. Same crap as Java. Needs 10x lines to write the same thing, abstraction over abstraction, and intuitive = 0. Why tf did it even got invented?6 -
I've worked with a couple of languages but python won my heart at the end
Been using it for 5 years now
But I feel I need to revisit java and c#
But my python conscience whispers:
"Yu want to dump me now... of all the things we've done together"4 -
Just found out about ElectronJS.
Man! My frontend will be so much more good looking compared to my previous experiences with Desktop Apps with tkinter (in Python) or swing, awt (in Java)
... Wondering if it has any DISadvantages over the latter ones 🤔8 -
Got into an argument the other day over the definition of scripting languages.
He said python isn’t because it can be compiled while I said it can be both since you can you can use without compiling. Same could be said for Java when using with Selenium for automation.
Thoughts?5 -
* Ditch Java, Embrace Python
* Do my own thing
* Everest Base Camp
* Reduce monthly expenses, have some savings -
I hate how my work mates think coding in Java you automatically become cleaver than most people who code in another laugauge ..
The hate Python and JavaScript , c'mon guys just write your fucking project so long it works you dont have to make statements on how Java is great. . We all no. . Statements like Python is English anyone can write are not welcome7 -
In highschool I started by setting up an open tibia (OT) server for which I copied and edited lua scripts to create spells and quests. Didn't do anything remotely difficult in those times.
In university I needed to learn and use Prolog. And soon after that I had an OOP course in Java. Didn't really learn Java during that course. And started to accept I would never like real programming.
During a Datastructures course I actually got the hang of java and started to program in my spare time.
Finished the Datastructures course with a good grade which landed me a job as student assistant for a python course.
That job in turn landed me a part-time job as python developer where I learned most of my programming skills.
Now I'm back to working in Java and I still learn everyday. -
Hey, I'm new here, this is my first post and I want to start asking:
I'm not very good at Java and I'd like to learn Python but I don't have much time to improve Java and learn Python.
What should I focus on? (having in mind job offers and future)
Is it worthy to learn both?6 -
!rant I've been meaning to learn Python for quite some time.
I've worked with Java, PHP, C, C#, JS, Ruby, even a bit of Lua. Any good books to recommend?3 -
I started my coding journey with JAVA ! I l grasped the basic concepts like LOOPS TYPECASTING ARRAYS etc. pretty well but failed to cope up with stacks , queues . So I switched to python and completed the Python Bootcamp from Udemy and now I am pretty confident in python . So should I try to learn Java again ?2
-
FUCK. I'M DONE WITH THIS SHIT. CAN'T GET MY HEAD AROUND THIS.
My intelligence is limited to Java & Python.
NO VARIABLES, RETURN TYPES..NOTHING! JUST FUCKING MAGIC! AND ALSO, FUCK EMACS.undefined i should probably kill myself can't understand shit stupid me fucksell shit emacs fucking haskell and gofer2 -
Anyone know of any GPU accelerated Machine Learning libraries that DON'T need Python, something maybe using C/C++, C# or Java?12
-
!Rant, rather a small question.
Few weeks back I have provided Python lectures to my teammates and they were so happy that my manager raised my name for one of the major python resource (though my core work is CMDB, just to ease my work I have learnt Python).
Today I came to know I have been SPOC from offshore liable for entire integration team in JAVA. I don't have much knowledge in JAVA and without asking me they gave me. I'm confused what to do? (Write a mail and say No or simply accept this new challenge) :(16 -
I'm new to programming and my professor said I should work on a project this summer..... Any suggestions?!
Side note: I will be trying to advance my knowledge of Python and learning Java4 -

c++: I've name-o-phobia
java: I can't byte it

Good cloud based IDE's for Java, Python and C# - any suggestions?
Should I place my braces after the method header or under it?

Or is it just personal preference?16 -

I need to become motivated to learn Python but I already know C#, Java, and JS. What can Python do they these can't?
Any suggestions for a project I could do to pick it up and shows the outer of Python?10 -
Ever since i started using clojure for private projects i find it increasingly frustrating to work with other languages. They all have their ups and downs sure but i just hate having to transform my data over x different data types to get only a fraction of the result i want from each. Im tired of looking up how to operate each different data structure. I could maybe be ok with it if this whole constant conversion of things was effortless but i find myself spending more time trying to get the language to work with me than doing actual work. There is this friction i feel between me and the language when writing java or python that just fucking tires me.1
-
Im currently a student in the US studying for my CS degree. I am kind of new to programming and after talking to my Professors, they said the best way to get better at coding is by practicing. Anyone have any good ways of practicing? I code in mostly Java, Python, and Javascript. Thank you!10
-
I was taught Perl and Java in just under 3 months during my Master's in Computational Biology which fueled a dislike towards these, so I self-taught myself Python and JavaScript in my free time and loving life now!1
-
wanted to parse jinja templates for parameters to be collected at runtime.
Python - 4 lines and done
Java with jinjava library - did not get anything done, lost some hair going throught their highly undocumented code.1 -
LOL XCode....I think they meant "X"tra useless, resembling such as a bag of dicks without handles!!!!
Also, being fucking buried because there's aren't any devs anywhere to be found near me makes me extra cranky!
Ive been hammering away at this Flutter, Java, Swift, Python, and Google maps for just about 36 hours on 3.5 hrs sleep. I just can't stop, I fuckin love this shit!!!
Considering the fact that I'm self taught and just started writing code for real about 7 months ago, I'd say I'm handling this alright for now. Every bit of tech is getting shot out of a cannon at this one- maps, real time tracking, state level auth/Id verification, custom components like ID scans/native desktop applications on custom linux machines, body cams, SIP trunking... all in 3 apps which are 100% multi-platform and scaled up to high end enterprise levels and being groomed for national release. I'm writing the code and doing the tech for ALL of it- even down to custom painted barcode scanners, a wallet system built from scratch, GPS integration, location/geofence based document querying... holy fuck guys I'm gonna fuckin die haha!!!
I went from barely getting websites made in late summer to this very moment, where I am pumping shit out in Flutter, Dart, Python, CPP, Js, Swift, Java, Kotlin, Obj-C, SQL/noSQL, and who knows what else.
I don't even know what the hell I just said haha I hope everyone has a great day! -
I am very thankful to C as I face less pain while dealing with pointers and memory allocation and deallocation in C++. I am very thankful to C++, as I grasp OOP and template concepts out of it and it was also my first language for DSAlgo implementation. I feel very fortunate to move to Java after C++ rather than python. Although Java's design is f**ked and it feeds on a computer's memory, it taught me to deal with objects( unlike C++). It taught me how objects are clearly different than primitive data types like int, float, char...And best of all, Java provided me everything I need to safely switch to Python, it's all because of Java, I can clearly understand the working of python. All the stuff which I find weird in python before is sounding logical to me now. As java taught me how to deal with objects, I am confident to say that "I CAN DEAL WITH PYTHON". With respect to all my 3 prior languages: C, C++, and Java.2

Worlds Shortest love Story..
Boy: You are the ;(Semicolon) to my code.
Girl: Sorry I have python..
😂😂😂😂 -
Java is perfect if you are a narcissistic egomaniac with OCD who has to declare a data type for every variable. Back to python10
-
Why do you (if you do) prefer dynamic languages? I.E Python, Ruby, JS over Kotlin, Swift, and Haskell? (I know why people don't like Java, I purposefully omitted that).12
-
1.What do you think is the best back end framework for Java? (because I am skillful only in Java for the moment)
2.Would it be better to learn Python and start writing my backend services with it?13 -
Guys pls I just got started into this programing stuff and hope to be a programmer and make games in future. Which of these programing language would be good for me
Java script
C++

How many languages does one have to learn...? Learnt C, C++ and Java because of college courses. Learnt HTML, CSS, and vanilla JS because I wanted to learn frontend. Now learning R for big data analytics. Today, I came to know that I need to learn more Java or start learning Python for Hadoop...!!
😧😵1 -
I need advice:
I'm a developer, I have lots of experience with Java and Python (More on Java than Python). But I'm not a game-dev.
I've been thinking about dedicate serious time to develop a game, like a long term plan, using my free time.
Top down adventure / puzzle game; you know typical go here, get key there, put three gems here, unlock that and so on.
I have two options: Go with Java as I can move easily with it OR use an engine like Godot even though I've never used it before.
So game-devs, any advice on what should be the best approach here?8 -
I was so happy after I managed to integrate some Python code into Java with Jython. Then I realized the application uses 1200Mb of RAM, it should run on a small home router with 1GB of RAM. Yeah... Giving up Jython and going back to old fashion command-line parsing!2
-
I'm currently a java developer. I've dabbled in python too. Mostly worked on API development and some data processing. I want to learn something new, that'll keep me engaged. It can be something within java (like image processing or NLP) or some other language (Go, scala, js). What do you all suggest?6
-
I've used Java for so long, I switched to Python and I keep doing this

I was trying to learn Java and Python at the same time. Ended up being proficient at Jython.
Now I,m trynna find a compiler that understands my language. Can anyone help?3 -
AppEngine: Java, Python or Go? Personally I prefer Python because I haven't gotten into Go, and Java is a headache at times..
-
Today i had a first experiente with Python. I'm finishing my course and I've done it with mainly Java. Now that I had this first class with python, I just feel like I've been trying to build a house with my bare hands this hole fuckin time!!3

After working on Python (Flask and alembic) I switched jobs. Now I'm on Java (DropWizard and Hibernate)... Now I realise how easy Python was.2
-
If you are learning to code like me just because a language is claimed to be the easiest to learn doesn't make it best for you. I spent so much time trying to learn python and struggled but switched over to Java which is definitely more complex than python but I've actually been learning it better. Find what's best for you!

when you start using java again after using python for awhile and you can figure out why your strings conditions aren't working! Damn ".equals()" method as opposed to pythons "=="

Hello Guys... Just wanted to have some opinions:
Considering long-term career stability, how does a Machine Learning engineer compare with a Software Developer ( C, C++, Java, Python, etc. ) & a Web Developer ( Java, JavaScript, SQL, CSS, Python ) ?9 -
Started with qbasic when really young, by moding the tower game. Later got into a programming course where i picked php & Java, and lately got Python and golang from professor Google

C was my first thing in 10th grade, now I am in college, in touch with some Java and Python, and hopefully some more in the near future.

Where to start, maybe from string.
Empty string conditions and string comparison.
if “”: - python
“” == false - javascript
.equals() - java1 -
I'm trying to port that Python project (https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/) to Java without even knowing how to print "Hello world". That's going to take a long long time6

What programming language do you guys recommend to learn?
Currently, I know Java, PHP and JS but I want to try something else...
I was thinking maybe C, C++ or C#, opinions? Also, many people seem to praise Python as the new god of programming languages which will solve all of our problems, but until now I ran into nothing but problems really with literally every python-application I have used (mostly incompatibility between certain packages which actually were the required version, I found it very annoying to fix every time). Is that just me or does that happen more often?16 -
making a self driving go kart controlled with a rpi, should i use python, java, dart, or something else? python seems like the obvious choice.
i plan on making it have google maps integrated, with netflix and music player, with a touchscreen.
i was thinking c++, but a gui with c++ didn't seem ideal.
what would you use?
also is an rpi too slow to make the go kart be *relatively* safe?question dart golang python testing fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck rpi java opencl raspberry pi self driving3 -
Struggle is real it happens all the time, i do programming in python then suddenly some bug came up on JS after fixing that doing some android App codes and then came back to the python i type like java with JS syntax :P :D that's the beauty of it.
-
Sometimes I really don't know how else to put it lmao, I'm on the level of caffeine crash and overtiredness that I literally typed in "clear" to the Windows file save dialog. I swear Python has made me suffer for longer than Java has, and that says something. Help.3

This summer I'll have 3 free weeks. I know Java and Python quite well, but I dont know any frameworks yet. What do you recommend?5

Guys I’m mobile app developer , I know my way around objective-C, swift and java , now I Wanna learn a new language just to expand my horizon , any suggestions ? I’m thinking of python 🤔3

!rant (am I doing this right?)
I want to dive into Python, but I read that python 2 won't be maintained by 2020. Should I pickup Python 3 or work with Python 2?
Slight background notice: I am a developer right now. I swap between Java and Javascript for most of my job. I'm familiar with the fundamentals of programming and am just looking for a language to automate some tasks or just explore. Python looks lightweight and open to a lot of potential projects, like AI (which I guarantee will take a while for me to grasp).5 -
Hi dev fellows !
I would like to know what is the best app (nice interface, simple / clean and effective metodology, with lessons / exercices, etc) to learn new langages ? Like python, Java, etc.
I have already Py and Enki which are pretty good.4 -
I'm a software developer having 2 years of experience. My main work was on java, python, and angular in these roles.
What is the approximate package I can get in a company?3 -
Coming from a Java background, could you please explain to me what is so special about Python these dags :/3
-
Dear C++ / Java developers.
Please do not write Python, or do utilize helper libraries / pythonisms.
Not EVERYTHING has to be done by hand, it's not CS class anymore. Classes are fine too, not everything has to be passed as comma separated string. Python is proper Object-Oriented language, not scripting tool like Bash.4 -
After python should i learn java, like, is it worth it????? or should i directly go into the c family????12
-
Great practice/skill sharpening idea for my fellow mad dogs that like to get down in multiple languages/syntaxes:
Pick something simple that won't cause too much stress, but will make you sweat a little bit and put up a good fight, ha!!!
For example, I picked the classic "Caesars Cipher" and picked 5 languages to create it in! I picked Dart, Java, Python, CPP, and C. Each version does the same thing:
1. Asks for a message
2. Runs the logic
3. Prints the message cipher.
4. To decrypt, you just run the same program again and enter the cipher text at the message input prompt. The message gets deciphered using the same logic an shows up as the original text.
The kicker:
Only dox/books allowed for reference. Otherwise it wouldn't push you to get better!!!
Python, C, and CPP were EASY, even with me never having used C before. I am great at using Dart, and that one really challenged me for some reason, but I finally got it. The previous 3 langs took less than 40 lines of code each (with Python being only 18 I believe). Dart actually took somewhere around 50, and Java took about 371784784. (Much love to Java though for real!)
Kinda boring as shit, but I gotta tell you it felt fuckin GREAT to look at all 5 of those programs after completing them, no matter how barbaric... especially when you complete 1 or 2 in a language you've never used or maybe felt really challenged by. Simple exercises that hold a lot of important, relatable logic no matter the subject is our lifeblood!!!9 -
I started off on a go project last week, and I feel like I connect with go a lot. It reminds me of c++ and python at the same time! I was in a java project before this, with the spring framework, and I feel like I was intimidated by it! I don't know if that's what makes me feel so much better about go.. And to top it off, there is no "framework" as such that the project uses. It's really interesting! I have already learn't a lot, I look forward to learning more.1
-
have to use python and opencv for a uni project about lane detection in autonomous vehicles (just the detection with e.g. canny edge detection)
have begun to look into python in a 40min video seeing the differences between java and python, as i'm more comfortable in java....
well python is quite weird in its syntax but at the same time quite easy(?)
don't know what i should think about it 😕 as i'm used to the strict structure of java
any other good videos i can watch to get a better grasp of it?7 -
How many languages other than English do you know? I have at least C, C#, Java, PHP and Python, and then there are still the Markup languages etc... 😀3
-
Can't understand why some coders feel so threatened by python.
Couldn't get the program right. Classmate yells from behind: "Thats why you should have learnt java" -
Continuing learning a little bit of Java with sololearn. Definitely hard considering I'm coming from Python hahaha. I'm pretty excited to learn Java though because I've always been interested in the possibilities of the language and of learning OOP3

Why is Lua such a pain to install? Like seriously there are so many hoops to jump through, why can't it be like java or python? -_-3

Who wants to collab with me for hashcode ?
I don't mind working with c , python , c++ , js , Java and similar languages I guess.
