Today (as a joke), I asked my class if there were any “professional HTML programmers” who could help me.
Surprisingly a couple people came over with smirks on their face. I thought they were going along with the joke.
Turns out, they were serious. They legitimately believed that they were professional HTML programmers and talked to me in such a condescending way that I was speechless.
“This is called a file. See that part after the dot? That’s what makes it HTML. HTML is an incredibly hard programming language and powers CPUs and the computer that you are using.”
I didn’t know how to respond. Hopefully they were joking.9 -
A friend of mine is heavily into java. Like seriously... programming teachers at our school ask him for help.
Everytime he gets drunk he starts saying the weirdest things like "DUDE what's your alpha value I can hardly see you".
He greets me with "What's up socket boy" and after throwing up he thinks about the best ways to sort the data. (his vomit)
Has anyone else had such experiences? I want to hear some funny stories! :D12 -
Is devRant Just for rants?
I see such a Great community here that goes way beyond complaining about PMs and users (even though you're all right, usually). I've read comments about support for depression, Anxiety, people being supportive of woman and downvoting/commenting against the common sexism that we see on the internet every single day. We have fun, we all feel like friends even though we can remember only a few names and stumble uppon them once in a while. We mostly understand each other and it all feels like a huge family. It's a Great thing to help throughout all of the struggles I have daily in Life, and I bet many people here feel the same.
Thank you all so much for making devRant this Great community. Papa bless.13 -
Social let's-help-female-programmers warriors piss me off.
The other day a massive email thread at work on how women are misrepresented in tech and how we need to help them and how using words such as "guys" is intimidating and generally patronising shit like "let's advertise jobs on websites like femaleprogrammers.com instead stackoverflow because there's too many white males on stackoverflow."
99% participants in this topic were guys.
One girl sent a message saying she doesn't want to be helped and she wants to know she has been picked for her skill and not filling in diversity numbers.
...would you believe she has been schooled on problems women in tech face by those lads too.
Like "woman, please... we speak diversity here"
So annoying....!!24 -
A moment of respect to people who willingly spend time to help out other people on sites such as StackOverflow10

Now, I work at a hosting company in the UK, as a linux support engineer. I've seen many cases where a number of clients ran one of the following:
rm -rf / something
rm -rf /var/cache (attempt to magento)
chmod 777 /var
chown -R user:user /*
Half the time, they're like "Hey guys, I dun did fuck up, please help!". The other half of the time, they piss me off. Here's a number of responses that really grinds my gears:
"Such a harmful command should really prompt for input before running" -- From the buy you "forced" a recursive rm command, which mutes such a feature.
Client: "I did no such thing"
Me: "I've seen the command history, and at the time the command was run, you were the only person logged in"
Client: "You're mistaken, You're reading the information wrong"
Me: "I assure you, I'm not, I know what I'm looking at"
Client: "Well you're a shit engineer"
Me (thought): "Says the fucker who doesn't know how to linux"
I like people who own up to fuck ups. But the ones that don't, are just making their lives harder, since we have all the evidence in front of us.
Most of these people are the developers, and in some cases, the sysadmins...4 -
Disclaimer: kinda non dev related. Just working to pay the bills right now.
The other day I ran for the train to work, don't want to be fucking late, right?
Arrived and this guy asked me this: (I have a sweating/transpiration problem but I'm fully aware of that)
"hey man, ever heard of fucking showers or deodorant?!"
Yes, I was sweating my ass off and you could smell me but I can't FUCKING help that.
It was very embarrassing and humiliating to get that kinda comment in front of like 30 people but I just swallowed it and went to work.
After the first break, a woman from management came to me and pulled me aside. A few people had complained about how that guy from before said some pretty humiliating stuff to me and she said that the guy received a warning and was told to fucking learn to treat people with respect, regardless of their (health) issues/appearance. I also got an apology and a sorry and if I could keep my eyes open for such behaviour in the future.
I'm very glad that she apologized although it wasn't her fault because I know I've got this health issue and I can't do anything about it yet but it can MOTHERFUCKING hurt when someone talks shit about me when I smell and I CAN'T FUCKING HELP IT BECAUSE THIS IS THE WAY MY BODY WORKS TOO BADLY.
I felt protected and safe about my issue for the first time in my life.
Thanks management!14 -
Whenever I feel bad, I go and help random people with their code.
I also randomly offer to help teach people Java so that they can learn best practice and perhaps not make the same small mistakes.
Such is life. My method of coping with sadness.9 -

Dear DevRant Users,
Thank you for being such an amazing group. You make me feel less shitty, more confident, and generally happier. You help me fight off the looming depression, keep me motivated, and help keep me focused on the of being the best programmer I can. Thank you.6 -
Seniors: Welcome to the team. Feel free to ask anything if you need help. There is no such thing as stupid questions.
New Dev: Sure. Thanks.
*a few minutes later*
New Dev: How to comment a code?
Seniors: Google it....and please don't ask stupid questions.11 -
Just released the side project that made me join programming! :) It's been about five months and I learned a lot: PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Handlebars, Jquery, Git (terminal), I even started building a RestAPI. Its been an amazing journey, and I didn't alone! I met other Devs (now good friends) over the Internet and we did it together :) Thanks to everyone on DevRant for being such a great community!
If you want to take a look at the site is: projectgroupie.com
It's a website to find new projects you like and join them! So if you're a developer and you wanna make a blog, you post your project on PG asking for some designer to help you and if someone like it, he can join! :)
I hope you enjoy it and any feedback is welcome!25 -
The Indian state of Kerala uses Linux(Edubuntu) in all the schools. This incident happened back in 2010. I was not that proficient in Linux but I liked it for some reasons.
So one day, one of my IT teachers was handed the responsibility to edit a video. Being the School Student IT Convenor, he asked for my help. I'm no Video Editor but this thing was so easy that Openshot was enough.
While I was at it, he said: "Why does the govt. want us to use such unprofessional stuff? If it was Windows we could do everything very easily. Who is ever gonna use Linux in a professional environment? The govt. is spoiling the children by urging them to use Linux, Free Software and Open Source."
I couldn't argue that day. But today I so wish I could go back and roast him!4 -
Every time management says "were now using SaaS product X, and they're giving a webinar so we can learn how to use their solutions to take our business to the next level!" — I can't help but associate it with Nigerian Prince scams.
The longer I'm a developer, the more I think vertical integration and inventing your own shitty wheels isn't such a bad idea.
Their generalized, overpriced seat-per-month service always boils down to "vendor lock-in, nothing can be customized or exported, integrations are a pain in the ass, and within a few months the bills will explode because of some overage fee".10 -
I just wanted to say thank you for such a cool community.
No matter how fucked up the day is you can alwqys laugh and get help here.
You are cool guys :)8 -
Not really a fired moment because it was a university project.
A colleague of mine decided it'd be nice to set placeholder images to Hitler wearing a hello Kitty Nazi uniform. Oh without telling anyone, of course.
I go into the lab that a couple lecturers share, one of them was interested in the project we were working on and to our surprise the placeholder images pop up. I immediately say sorry, I didn't set that image and the guy looks at me with judging eyes.
Same guy has to take meds daily otherwise he acts up, not sure what it was he had, may have been ADHD, anyways we were staying late and he forgot his meds, and while our client is in the same room this guy starts doing the macarana behind the room separator, while we're supposed to give him a live preview of what we had accomplished in three months of work. Needless to say he didn't see him dancing like a moron but wow :/ learn to control yourself.
Same guy also never commented his code and used the two letter variable principal because it's such a great idea >.> Me and the other guy spent 6 hours rewriting his code, which should have been less time but he wasn't there to help nor was he available to yell.. I mean ask for help.
I hate University group projects....2 -
So I've setup Manjaro and I freakin love it. It looks great, it feels great and Octopi is such a huge help. So hyped to... let it rot on my Laptop as I dont really use it much.14

My condolences go out to the 800 or however many amazing employees/devs that were laid off at Activision Blizzard due to poor leadership and guidance. Idk how many were devs were laid off but it’s all a shame. To think that one of the leading AAA companies is so fucking blind to the truth and only go for $$$ is a waste. If they had people in charge whom actually understood why products in the gaming industry are fun and popular and strives to make good games instead of slot machines and didn’t treat their development staff with such disrespect then maybe they’d make good games. Even bringing the great name of blizzard down to shit.. it’s phenomenal how blind they are and where they put their money. They are disgusting and need to get their head out of their ass even though it wouldn’t help anyone. Sorry to anyone that is involved with them10

Every time I interact with this DBA he treats me like I’m some fucking moron who barely knows what a query is. It doesn’t help that I can’t get him to understand a damned fucking thing, no matter what the topic is. We speak the same language, supposedly, but can barely communicate. I can’t even begin describe how his half of the conversations go because I am unable to follow much of it.
Maybe if I start aligning my fucking chakras and channeling my inner goddamn cosmic peace energy, or whatever it is he’s on about, he might start making more sense? I swear he’s been so high so often that he’s never quite come down.
There’s obviously a language barrier, somehow, but the guy is also such a douche every freaking time. Ugh.rant i could call him mr. mushroom? maybe it’s me? drugs are bad mmkay root queries the dba’s sanity13 -
Dear Australian Government and National Authorities, you can go fuck the right away with this shit!
It’s bad enough we are a country of national data collection with flimsy laws of obtaining access to said data, but to then go that one step further and shove back doors into everything is going too far.
https://news.com.au/technology/...
Under the proposed new laws, Australian government agencies could compel companies to provide technical information such as design specifications to help in an investigation, remove electronic protections, assist in accessing material on a device subject to a warrant and even build or install software or equipment that could help authorities gather information.
What could possibly go wrong 🤷♂️2 -
Ooh man, I'm so fucking pissed with these shit MBA fucks who think they know everything about everything about everything but can't even tell the difference between pastry and shit until they dig their mouth into it.
Dick heads want to micromanage me to a point where I don't even have to think.
*Make the button green.*
But that does not follow any design principles.
*We have business research which says so*
What.
Such bullshit, I don't even wanna argue anymore. But man, it's so tough to make something which goes against every principle of what you have ever learnt. I mean, I'm coding it, and my brain refuses to help because the idea is soo bad. God I'm soo frustrated.5 -
What is it with this team and the developers it attracts. 2 devs joined and left, both had several years of experience, both couldn’t google an issue to save their lives and needed to be helped 24/7.
Now we are mentoring a PHD student for a piece of his project. Dude was left stumped by an error message that said “Can’t find file at path ...” because the path didn’t exist. He spent a few hours trying to fix it before asking for help.
How, HOW are people getting through college / university without being able to read, or debug such a simple fucking error message2 -
Just an ionic app that I need to work on.
In the former dev defense, it was meant for mobile while I'm running it on Iridium on macOS, don't know if that counts
Anyways send help ASAP!16 -
This is what f*ckin' grinds my gears to the max...
Today a family member asked me to help them with online banking so I agreed because they are really not computer literate.
I don't use the bank they use so the whole online banking website interface was new to me and I had to figure out where some things were.
The family member that I was helping was getting really annoyed because it was taking long (by the way it took me less than 15 min to finish helping them).
As I was assisting them the f*ckin' idiot had the nerve to tell me, and I quote, "I thought you were good in IT. You can't even assist me with online banking".
Honestly, WTF?!?!?! 😡😡
How does one even respond to such...
Anyways... This is just one simple example regardless of what field you are in IT, you NEED to be good with whatever tech gets thrown at you.
So irritating....😡😣15 -
Thanks so much for the clarification Pikepass....such a big help. Now I know exactly what format my account number should look like and where to find it!

For the past two years I've always wanted to make Programming tutorial videos to help others learn to code while fueling my passion for coding, discovery, and teaching..... and after two years I've finally uploaded my first two videos to YouTube.
I want to cover fun and exciting topics such as how to make custom plugins, create your own linux web server, and more... but decided to do a web basics 101 as my "Hello World" videos to get better in making content and production.
The inspiration for my "Web 101" comes from have a lot of my senior year CS classmates who have never seen HTML/CSS code before and wanting to provide them a source to get the basics all in one place.
I have a lofty goal of getting 10 subscribers by the end of the month. If you wouldn't mind giving me some pinpointers or comments I'd greatly appreciate it!
Also I did buy a new microphone so the sound quality between video one and two should be better!

Hi all. I have such a problem, I need a reliable company that will help me and my partners create a mobile application. We have our own startup and really don’t have time for marketing research; maybe someone has already used someone’s services and can recommend something. Outsourcing will also suit you. The most important thing is the deadlines.11

Psychic readings https://linkedin.com/pulse/... are one of the most mysterious and fascinating areas of the paranormal. This phenomenon has long attracted the attention of both ordinary people and scientists, since it represents the ability to receive information in unusual ways, bypassing the usual five senses.
Psychics, or people with such abilities, claim that they can sense energetic interactions, see objects and events at a distance, read thoughts, obtain information about a person only from his photograph, and so on. One of the most well-known psychic readings is tarot card reading, which allows psychics to predict the future and give advice on decision-making.
There are many theories about how psychic readings work. Some believe that psychics are able to perceive information not only through the usual five senses, but also through the sixth sense - intuition. Others believe that psychic abilities are related to a person's energy fields and aura.
In order to understand this phenomenon, scientists conduct numerous studies and experiments. However, it has not yet been possible to find a scientific explanation for extrasensory abilities. Some experiments show that psychics can detect information that ordinary people cannot see, but this has not yet been scientifically proven.
Many people turn to psychics in search of answers to questions regarding their personal life, career, health and other important aspects. Psychics offer them consultations and help them understand difficult situations, predict the future and help them make important decisions.
However, it is worth remembering that there are many impostors and scammers who try to use the popularity of psychic abilities to deceive. Therefore, it is important to choose trusted specialists and not get hung up on the predictions and advice of psychics, but make decisions independently, based on your own judgment and intuition.
Overall, psychic readings remain a mystery to science and society. Many people are confident in the reality of such abilities, others consider them fiction and deception. However, whether you believe in psychic abilities or not, it is worth recognizing that these paranormal phenomena continue to attract the attention and interest of many people around the world.6 -
I hate SQL Server so much, don't matter how Microsoft say they improve themselves at SQL Server.
There's a lot of fucking bloat, messes your system and your services, adds tons of crap in your system registry, while more advanced SQL engines such MariaDB/PostgreSQL are more contained, and its very small.
Why SQL Server has to mess with Windows' ACL and his own privilege systems?.
Uninstall it and a lot of components remain hidden and tons of registry entries, not even TotalUninstaller or CCleaner can help.
I hate it since my technical high school and my goddamn college is forcing us to use SQL Sever for EVERYTHING, instead of good alternatives, messed my computer entirely requiring to format.
I try always to convince my freelance clients to use open-source alternatives, and say how SQL Server is so crap, (i had variant degrees of success).13 -
Just got an email with a new really nice douche-bag move from Postman to raise their prices again (this time for almost double) on their paid plans with excuse "it will help us deliver more of what our customers need from us."
Even though I've decided to look other way around for years on their electron-based garbage of bloated app, have not been a fan of their pricing 8$/month/user just for a simple feature such as sharing request schema and environment data.
This simply needs to stop and I'm seriously thinking about doing something about it. 🙄10 -
Yay. I was yet again asked to make a whole module that is meant to compete with stuff companies have made who have funding of millions - without even a designer to help out. I'm the single frontend guy in the team.
"Let's make our website like that super beautiful website we saw that actually paid a designer, UI/UX guy, interaction designer and graphic guy. But let's not hire any of them. Who needs them anyway? Such a waste of money which their high fees"
I guess I'll just take "inspiration" from Pinterest/dribbble/behance1 -

Background: Since last 3-4 months, was working with a senior engineer remotely on a project.
Present: Currently, I am Out of Office and yesterday late night, I opened my official mail and after sometime I got an email with subject: GOODBYE!
It was from him. The same senior engineer with whom I was working. I thought it was a joke. But people don't joke when they send such emails to a huge group of people.
I never knew he was going to leave so soon. I wanted to learn so many things working with him. I used to ask him the silliest doubts ever.
I still wonder why he left the company. I have so many questions to ask him.
I am sad. I am feeling left alone.
It's awkward that today, this very moment, I can't ping him anymore forever.
It's obvious to be more professional and such things are normal.
But, I am fresher and my first project was with him. So, it's kind of tough for me too.
I know this will help me to grow up stronger and teach me that time isn't constant and we need to always be ready and use the right time preciously and deal with the "constant change".
And also, wherever he goes, my best wishes to him and I hope I will meet him some day. -
The feeling when random dudes downvote a question, because a guy who finally earned some points on SO dared to format the code with `<code>`<br> He pasted code, log, even explained a little bit and ~500 point guy even flags it like _unclear_ although there's clearly visible import error.
I mean... as an answerer or moderator, I'd be damn ashamed for such behavior! I have absolutely no problem kick a person with words + explanation in my answer or comment, so that (s)he remembers to ask better questions and feels bad about that, because nooby questions are already answered so many times there.
But to downvote because of formatting even if you have a permission to edit and a flag for low quality or because you can't read ~40 lines of log makes you just a retard and hurt the whole remaining community of guys like me who find time to sit there and answer questions to help another people.7 -

Fucking shit, this university's website is so damn slow! Basically Every Semester, every student need to enroll to certain classes in University Website.
But the Infrastructure is not enough to handle such a big amount of students, we have approx. 7000 students enrolling at the same fucking time.
And here i am can't enroll to any class at all this semester. Fuck such a waste of time. This always been a thing since they digitalize enrolling system.
I don't want this to happen again. The student always be a victim since they cannot handle the request. Now, as a dev, i want to propose something better to optimize the server, i have some connection to pass some bureaucracy. I am going to do some brainstorming and I will need some solution.
Here some data i gather when i am mad from my univ infrastructure division :
1. The Server is a simple Local Server Forwarded to the Internet.
2. The Server use Windows Server 2007.
4. Web Server Using Microsoft IIS
3. The Website built using ASP.NET
4. The connection is not SSL encrypted (yes its fucking use the http)
5. Hardware Spec (not confirmed officialy, i got this information from my professor) :
- Core i5 4460
- 4 GB Ram
- 1 Gbit NIC
I will summon some expert here and i hope want to help me(us all) out.24 -
"Potimized imports and remopved temp code"
Can't help but wonder what's the code quality like from an author of such a carefully written commit message 🤔3 -
Question time:
Has anyone used PHP unit with Selenium before?
I have a.. well words can’t explain it nice enough but, beyond a joke, not even funny, spaghetti code base I’ve come to inherit recently, which god help me, doesn’t follow any design patterns at all, it’s just a stamp this here, staple this down over here and throw paint at the wall and hope it sticks.
It’s a mixture of procedural and functional with the rare class kind of mess.
So attempting to refactor by any means is not a real possibility without some kind of behavioural testing in place first otherwise I know I’m going to end up breaking something somewhere and not even know it.
Also if anyone has had the privilege of such code bases, tips to dealing with the mess are appreciated.
Oh and no, I can’t rm -rf or start again.😭3 -
I thought any fledgling dev could become a good one with enough team guidance, frequent discussion on ideas and reasoning with seniors, experience, and work variety
But one I know is proving they don't have the knack.
I really wanted to believe anyone could be a good dev if they tried hard enough but this one is just...
They've dragging us down.
Not paid enough to make it my problem to raise it with management. I've tried to help them grow but I've never seen such slow growth despite the different learning/teaching styles *we've* done to improve their capabilities (the entire team)
I dread working with them and I'm not alone apparently6 -
Today I was working in a university studyspace. Some girl noticed my dark theme IDE, running some tests and such and assumed that I'm a computer guru. She then asked me if I could help her with MS Excel or MS Word. To which I answered "sorry, no". She might've just been trying to start something with me, but that was a deal breaker hahaha (seriously tho, if I were in a better mood I would have helped her)8

So at the old job, i needed support for an issue relating to Amazon S3. We used a third party Python plugin for sending files to our buckets, but had some pretty severe performance issues when trying a 2-way sync.
Naturally, I sought help on StackOverflow, and was asked to share my config. Without much thought, I pasted the config file.
Next comment made me aware that our API id and key was listed in this config (pretty rediculous to keep such private info in the same file as configuration, but oh well).
I edited my question and removed the keys, and did not think about the fact that revisions are stored.
Two weeks later, my boss asks me if I know why the Amazon bill is for 25.000$ when it used to be <100$ 😳
I've never been so scared in my life. Luckily, Amazon was nice enough to waive the entire fee, and I leaned a little about protecting vital information4 -
Holy fcuk! Can anyone here help me understand how this domain is possible?
WARNING: obviously its a spam site. Take necessary security precautions if you are going to visit.
the following domain opens a cluster fuck domain name! >> secret.ɢoogle.com
That ɢ is not what it looks like. How is such domains possible to exist? Even more surprising, how is this sub domain -ception possible?7 -
I may have over delivered my service to this first customer i got.
It doesn't help that pricing was dirt cheap and i over promised in a bid to make it attractive.
But in my hurry to please the client, I've been feeling so much stress since last 24 hrs. Dealing with customers suck. I hate this.
They can be little dumb and doesn't think much before blaming you if something's not working as expected.
I hate this feeling and now i remember why my initial business model was designed such that I wouldn't have to deal with clients.
But somewhere along the way, i forgot about that. :/
I wish I could get rid of this customer.3 -

I love tools such as IntelliSense or Copilot, don't get me wrong!
But i still have a deep rooted fear that one day, developers will become so dependent on those luxuries, that we will become practically unable to write code on our own, without our cloud overlords blessings.
Until, you know.. the server for such a service will crash and no one will know how to fix it without its own help. *see Palpatine meme reference*17 -
Customer: I want to be included in any and all design and development meeting in the future.
Me: OK, I mean, I'm just one person so there's not formal meetings as such...
Customer: Nevertheless, I wish to be included and ensure my needs are met.
Some time passes.
Me: So, I'm thinking of swapping out the old Beanshell interface, cos, really... Interpreted, scriptable Java isn't great and most users don't want to write Java just to run some jobs. Could you help me with creating an API that fits you and your departments needs?
Customer: No, I'm way to busy to deal with this right now!
Me: And when would be convenient for you?
Customer: I don't know, just not now.
To this day, despite successfully integrating the rhino js engine into the app, part of the software I develop has a bean shell interface rather than js, Python or lua.
-_- I hate bean shell... -
People don't seem to know how to properly do print-debugging, so here's a simple guide:
1. A log of "aaaaaa" or "got here" isn't as helpful as you think when ALL OF THEM ARE THE FUCKING SAME. You put a descriptive label or copy verbatim the conditional statement. This saves time matching statements, allows one to watch multiple branches at once, and allows others to understand and help faster when dragged in to help.
2. When trying to see where code fucks up, before each line, paste said line into a proper print statement for your language. If there's, say, a function call or some shit, have it output something like "functionCall(varA=<varA contents>,varB=<varB contents);" Most normal lines should be like this too, but it's especially helpful for calls and comparisons.
If need be, add return values after if they're not shown in another print statement later.
This allows for a trail of execution AND the line that fucks up will be the last in the log, making finding it easier when dealing with hangs and such.
3. Putting something unique like "DEBUG: " or something in front of all statements ensures you can just search for them to ensure you're not rolling one out to production. It also separates debug output from normal output at a glance, making digging through logs faster.16 -
So like a year ago an Microsoft Scammer called me while i was middle in my exams week, so i took half an hour break to talk etc. So i started my VM and let him on it. He started showing me things that aren’t “safe” etc. But i needed to go. So i said: “Call me again tomorrow same time” Well the next day he called. But i really did not have the times for all of this because of my exams so i cut it into a short conversation like this: “Well sir, You made me so afraid yesterday with how many viruses i had, that today i went to the apple store and bought an MacBook and i’ve thrown the other laptop away.” Then he was quiet for like 25 seconds and was started with: “Sir your MacBook has serious problems let me help you!” Then i called him out for being a scammer and he hang up. Just wanted to share 1 of the few stories i have had with such “microsoft” scammers.1

So today I was asked by another department in my company to help them make a logo. They have meetings they have named Pulse (stupid healthcare.) So I made them a logo of the word Pulse with a red ekg then a long line after as if it was flat lining. I hope they either don't get it or get it and never ask me for such things again.

Hey DevRant Fam ❤️ hope everyone is well as always! It’s Sunday here in dull weather Sydney!, i was thinking bout this for awhile now, now surely most of us time to time use Stack Overflow for help and it works!.
Though, thats not the issue :-), my first time using it as a newbie wasn’t so great so to say, I’ve noticed that the people over at S/O can be quite rude such as they would downVote my question and also not comment why they have downvoted it :-(.
I’d love to know what you guys think, funnily enough I’m using DevRant much more than FB itself 😅, anyways guys hope you’re all having a great one!
Best wishes ❤️

I want to thank all open source projects and their collaborators.
I want to thank communities such as stack overflow and specialized forums where people make time to help others.
Lastly, I want to thank everybody here by sharing their experiences and making one feeling less alone (or less weird).
I don’t know of any other community aside from devs where they help so much between themselves. I think this is one of the few professions were collaboration is a fundamental part of it.
Thanks.2 -
I work in a dev company. One of our clients hired us to help them out as their devs are failing with their deadlines.
I had to expose app services via an api. I did it. Client company devs didn't like the way I did it as I rewrote their datamodels and declared them as api-use-only. I was demanded to return bkend services' data structures.
I didn't agree and waited until deadline to submit my code.
Now they are honestly thanking me for what I did as I've saved them from a forever-mutating-api-and-angry-integration-customers hell.
Not sure whether should I be happy or worried. I forced my solution onto them. It's not proffessional. But yhe customer is happier now than it would've been.
What do you do in such situations?6 -
Have higher technical schools with computer science as one of their topics (such as the one I visit) introduce people to how RAM works in detail earlier than in fourth grade, which would really help some of my classmates.2

I will never understand the need for weeding bs. I am ok with marriage, and doing whatever religious festivity you want to whatever deity you follow. I respect that stuff enough to not go all anti-religious or what not. But I just cannot fathom making a party that benefits the attendee (food whatnot) more than the people starting a life together. Gifts? a popularity contest? I don't get it. My weeding was simple, did not invite a bunch of people, shit burned bridges, but our families were there and that to me was more than enough. Anyone else that got offended, well, they can get offended whenever they pay one of my fucking bills.
But I just cannot get the need to have such a ceremony, AND then to have the audacity to get upset or call out people that cannot make it. Make it for fucking what? the bridge and groom are going to be so fucking distracted with everyone that at most your presence gets an "ah glad you came!"
AND some people even do it in different cities, fucking why? it is a burden as an adult to make time for such minute events, even more to take the time, and the fucking money to go to your fucking party on another city. Bonus points if I need to buy a fucking airplane ticket, no fucking thanks.
I am currently doing something big in my life that only my wife can help me with, because of my situation, my family can't help me, so i am all by myself and wife, and some people told me to put it on hold.....to go to a fucking party. WHY? Why in the sweet holy Mexican baby Ritchie would I go ahead and fucking do that? you are not going to help me afterwards when I get back, shit, you will be out on fucking vacation after the party, for 2 fucking weeks (talk about privilege) and you still want me to put my shit on hold to go...to a fucking party?
Fuck, sometimes I feel that I am toooo fucking egotistical to put my time before others, but man, you really get shit out of this. 2 weedings happening this month, one requires a ticket, the other is a drive away (4 fucking hours) but still, I really don't feel that I should waste my VL that I would much rather spend with my wife and child on some fucking obnoxious ego-inflated party.9 -
As much as I love to complain about my job, I have to say I have such a huge amount of respect for my peers who go out of their way to help me and other engineers out. I feel like they deserve so much more praise because when they help others out, everyone succeeds.1

I've been laughed at a lot for thinking this way, but I'm honestly frustrated by how little information exists on the web for people who want to take Operating System development a step further. I mean, the OSDev Community is amazing and offers pretty, much everything one needs to know at the system level. But my issue is: What if someone didn't want to use existing compilers and assemblers like GCC and NASM, and do everything from total scratch? I mean, the original Unix came from somewhere, right? I know you're going to think "Why not? It works.". Well, I just think it's crazy how few people (such as Linus and the GNU foundation) are out there that have the ability to create such things without help from existing software tools. Sure, it could take me decades of careful practice and experience, but my passion is for creating software at this level and becoming one of those people is very strong. I just wish I knew where to begin and who to learn from.4

My favourite dev tool? I would't be able to do my work without any tool, which's in the list. I love IntelliJ IDEA & Webstorm, Java, JavaFX, Maven, Git & Gitlab, TeamCity, Upsource, YouTrack, Artifactory, wtf that list's kinda the complete tech stack. But I completly hate AWT & Swing (AWT fucks up on my Linux install, such a frame creates in about 10-20 seconds, if you test the app locally, you loose approximately 15 seconds per minute, and Swing uses AWT internally too), I hate Gradle (screw Google for standardizing it), and so on. Wow that's like my complete tech stack, what the fuck happend? The question was one tool, help me.1

"This is ridiculous, why don't the docs explain this? This is absurd, it seems like thousands of people should be having this issue. Why do maintainers fucking not get it? Why write software if you don't intend for anyone else to use it?"
versus
"Hey, could you explain X to me? I'm having trouble understanding it."
"Sure, here: ..."
"Thanks - maybe we could add it to the docs, that's the first place I looked."
"Absolutely, good idea."

Which one was easier, folks? It's not this difficult. 100% going to help you if you ask - to me, at least, there's no such thing as a stupid question (seriously, I'll answer the most inane questions 100 times over if I need to). However, there's definitely a stupid comment, and unfortunately they seem to be the majority I receive on Github.6 -
Hey guys, so i got my first job, but there's this stupid problem there that i am having...there's this guy who makes fun of everybody and there are other two guys who laugh at his every joke whenever he makes fun of someone. He made fun of me too a few times, fun of my age, fun of my nose, fun of certain things i said, and those other guys laugh , and this is really frustrating and annoying. I am thinking of quitting..but i am not sure...should i quit for such a small reason? I dont like such people...i dont know what to do...i dont wanna complain to the HR for such a small thing and create more drama...kindly tell me what to do...i really get sad when he indirectly mocks me because of my age. I am a bit old, 31...and the others are in their twenties...please help, thanks31

Explain to me why people love Apple so much.
What is a simple task in every other OS ever is a multi step dance on a Mac (or iphones too for that matter). It is a productivity nightmare that makes the whole system feel like it is only meant to be used to watch youtube.
The way the keyboard works feels like it was designed by aliens.
Browsing the system with Finder is an absolute pretzel nightmare. No moving files. Copy, paste, then delete is as good as you're going to get. No way to type the path to go straight to it. You will do things the slowest way possible and be happy while doing it.
Want to quickly create a blank file in the current folder? Oh what's that? You thought the right click menu was going to help you like every other OS? Apple laughs in your face for such arrogance.25 -
Hello devs, I need help from database devs.
The company where I'm interning is a non IT company, so they planned to migrate to a SQL Database from their older MS Access Database.
Since I'm the only IT intern, I'm up against the major devs and hot shots from where my company outsources IT solutions.
They suggested SQL Express.
I have a meeting tomorrow with them, please help me so that I can get better results for my company.
Basically I have to question them about how their decision works better for our firm and why didn't we go for MySQL Enterprise Edition or anything which is much better and cheaper and such critical questions.
Please help me.
The Database would be used to store information about the products manufactured and their parts' history so that in future if there's a problem with the product, it can be looked up in the database so that there can be further replacement or repair processes.10 -
Not everyone get such seniors(read friend) to help and push you into that fuckery of coding :)

We have been given two Spanish exchange students for 10 weeks. We are a UK based creative agency, the minor issue being they don't speak a word of English, so there is a significant language barrier.
What would people recommend for a way to help them learn some basic languages e.g HTML, CSS etc.. with such a significant language barrier.
(Already tried Google translating everything)
With my strong Yorkshire accent, my Spanish doesn't come out too great 👌4 -
Just had a customer into my shop. A regular chap but we've never really spoken before. Turns out he's a system architect for British Aerospace Engineering, a huge company up here in the north of England. So we were chatting about what I study and what he does and I said, if I come out with a first or solid/high 2:1 in my software engineering degree, would that qualify me for an entry level at your place, and he said no. Hrs part of the interviewing panel, and he wouldn't even consider people my age (23 at time of qualification) without at least having another job in the field, and said most places would be the same. So let's say I decided to not go in for anything Web development and focused on C++, is there any sort of way you guys know of gaining experience in the field without first having another job? As mentioned I do freelance Web development, but do you think having a large Github portfolio and such would help me stand a chance? I know I'll need to take a lower tier job straight out of uni in the field, but as something to help speed the process along...5

Best boss I've had was when I was collecting recycling materials as a truck driver.
The company mostly employs unliterated people that can't get a job anywhere else, so It has lots of dumb, jealous people who made his life miserable.
Still, he's so good with people that he could filter it all out and we had a great relationship even in such a poisonous environment.
He was really sad when he told me I wouldn't have my contract renewed. He allowed me to work from 5 am to 2 pm so I could finish my 12grade class (high school) at night and I fell asleep one day. The company does not renew contracts if you miss even one day. When people talked bad about each other he would just nod and do nothing or descalate the situations.
Well, I'm off to help my dad again :( he's the one who gave me the taste for DIY, but fuck his projects take so much time. Were repainting a motorhome :D -
I love working doing tasks like moving boxes.
Move 10 boxes from point A to point B. Simple, you know what to do. and you know when you are finished.
I Hate tasks such as: Change this Icon to other icon. (C++) Because it takes me 3 fucking hours to find in code where the fuck this happens! And every time my first instinct when I don't know something is go to the internet and search for it. But in this case I CaN't!.
Wife: asking why I'm browsing the internet looking at memes.
Because I Don't Know where the fuck I need to be to finish my task! And I am stuck in this repeating loop of searching in code, looking at memes and being ashamed of myself that I did not this fucking simple task in like 10 minutes.
And after 3 hours of doing basically NOTHING. I don't dare to ask a colleague about everything.
Please send help....4 -
My boss just said “as long as it puts a smile on the clients face, it’s worth examining, within reason.” Yeaaa that’s a bit broad... Some of our clients only smile when they have hookers and blow on hand. Is it reasonable to help them acquire such if it helps retain them as a customer?!2

So I've just had a meeting with a colleague of mine and, well, he didn't know I was leaving. It turns out, since Friday, my manager/management simply didn't announce it to those for whom it may be relevant because my manager thought they could make me stay.
It was a super awkward call in general and especially because they were hoping for my help on a future project. And now I feel bad for this guy as he was always very nice to me and also apologised a million times during the call for "his mistake". Then he even spent like 5 minutes searching for the announcement email in his inbox making it even more awkward when we both saw there was no such email sent.

This February, I posted a !rant here ( https://devrant.com/rants/1999689/... ) about getting a NLP internship with the help of the community.
In the past few months, I have gone up, and now I have a job offer from a small organisation (StrataVAR) as their Python dev.
I received the offer letter today. Since I am in the third year of graduation, then want me to work parallel to the university classes, they pay way above Indian freshers' average, and they have put me in a team that works on things I like.
It would not have been this way without the help and support of the communities I'm a part of, such as DevRant and StackOverflow (obviously). I just wanted to thank all who cared and helped. It means a lot.8 -
Honestly now that I have a job and I work with good people, being on devrant anymore just ruins my day. I love it when people rant about their jobs and code, and I love it when people share cool stuff on here. But the childish and toxic behavior leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. I hope I see you assholes (you know who you are) on the street so I can smack you, and you deserve every bit of what's coming to you. I hope you can turn your life around and actually help the world one day. Til then, I'm going to enjoy my life, because my life is fucking amazing. bye!2

How about a feed where people can ask for help?
I know there are sites such as stack overflow for things like that, but I find devrant's community to be a lot more friendly and just better overall.
Also I believe it would be kinda funny if the questions would not be required to be 100% dev related.4 -
I don't really know what I should be feeling right now.
So its been 2 years at my company and im still considered a junior dev. There's a pay freeze, meaning there's no chance for me to move up the ladder.
And yet, as of today, I am being asked to head up both the design AND development of a prototype file cloud sync engine that will replace our current sync application that's been worked on for 4+ years now (yeah, its legacy). And I'm 100% on my own, at least for a while, untill someone else comes around.
I still reside under the title 'junior dev' and am paid as such. I don't mind challenges, but this just feels like a bit much. Heck, I'm sure maybe I could even do it too, but I don't feel like im being compensated or given a higher title to reflect that sort of responsibility. I've tried to tell my manager I don't feel comfortable with this, but they've insisted I head this up.
I feel kind of locked up inside, I don't even really want to start working on it because I feel angry that I would be given such a huge project to do all on my own, while being called a junior, and without anyone to fall back on.
What should I do? Do I refuse the responsibility? Do I see it as a challenge that will help me grow? Or do I see it as an exploitation?12 -
That very "awesomeee" moment when you have to create a website to a new startup which are using all the right buzzwords such as blockchain, AI and machine learning... (wuhuuu)

Thank you!

I honestly can't remember what the hell was wrong with me when I configured my laptop. Now I am stuck with a very decent laptop with a 200something GB hdd that is even slower than any hdd I use in my other computers. Wtf. It is ok for most Situations because I only ise it to write emails or browse the internet on the go and for the demanding jobs I have several very powerful pcs at home. But for travelling it is such a pain in the ass! I can't always upload everything to a cloud and I often don't have reliable internet connection, so I help myself with usb harddrives but that sucks as well. Argh, I need to get myself to buy a 1TB ssd. But they are so expensive!
-
Ok so I'm taking a developer survey, and since this is the best community of devs I know I'm taking it here first. This is for research purposes attempting to draw parallels between thing such as favorite language and favorite editor, tabs vs spaces and years of development experience, etc.
If you would be so kind as to help me out I will post my findings here once I've collected enough data. Anyone that inputs a valid email address will also be kept in the loop.
Thanks! Here's the link!

I administer Atlassian stack instance (among zillion other things, of course). Once I've got an issue about login problem:
"I can login to Confluence, but not to Jira, could you help me?"
Looking into projects configuration, into user's permission groups in Crowd (both apps are connected, it will be important in a moment)... Everything looks good. Wtf?
Suddenly, I've got this idea:
"What username do you use in Jira?"
"My username."
"What about Confluence login?"
"My email."
Realization in 3... 2... 1...
Wait for it...
Just a little more tension...
"Nevermind, thank you!"
Remember, guys, always give them a chance. Plan for the worst, but hope for the best. And I wish you all only such issues! :-D -

Shit.
Shit shit shit.
Accepted to do an "outside-of-work" job, which is about migrating a website from a CMS to another one, and I have extremely badly estimated the time it would take... Now the guy highly expects the website to be fully delivered at the date I told him... Which is in 21 days... I also lost two weeks since he wanted to migrate to Magento, but being inexperienced on it, barely managed to make it run. Managed to convince him to go on Prestashop... Much easier but so much to do, for such a "small" site (6-7 templates)
I think I need to find some help, and quickly :/ :/3 -
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT
Visual studio shouldn't be allowed to fucking exist in its current form, it takes FOREVER TO FUCKING LOAD unresponsive lagging piece of fucking shit. I'd expect such loading times for a modern AAA game but not a fucking so called functional application, holy fucking shit...
Why must everything be so fucking hard using this thing? I need to change default intellisense settings as not to get in my fucking way while learning, after getting more stressed trying to find out how to edit the settings which are listed under TOOLS, WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK? It should be under edit not fucking tools, editing settings is not a fucking tool you fucking dense cunts. I spend the next 10 minutes looking for intellisense settings only to find you have options for enabled, disabled and default how the fuck does that help anyone?
Firstly it should have its own fucking section since its such a massive bloaty intrusive feature. I should not have to first click C# and then be presented with limited controls.
FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU, ALT + F4 UNINSTALLED THAT PIECE OF FUCKING SHITE , MILTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY WANTS FUCKING MONEY FOR THIS PILE OF SHIT.
Go fuck yourselves.10 -
Do we have, as developers, some social networks, that could help us to find a companions for developing apps. I don't mean such things like GitHub, where we operate with Open Source software. But, for example, I have an idea, but I'm alone and need more developers to implement this idea. So I need to find those guys who wouldbe ready to join me. Do we have such a communities? Don't you know?2

Thank you Admin for being such an asshole✌️1

@dfox I saw a few posts lately, about websites that people did. So besides the collabs, I'd like to suggest a new section. "DevReviews" or what ever. The basical idea is, every one, that is signed up gets one "token" devRant ++ suporters maybee an additional free token every months or whatever.
If you wan't your website reviewed, you can post it there and people reviewing it will get such a token for their review.
To ensure a certain quality of the reviews, I'd put a minimum caracter length and a "dispute" function, where the review is taken to a community voting, if the person giving the review should get the token, or if the review should be dismissed. Additional "tokens" for additional/more reviews can be bought through the app, that could help a lot of devs get quality reviews and testing and earn you some $ for the servers.5 -

Plz help...
I’m a student and developer, working every night my butt off for the last 2 years, not going to sleep till 2,3,4,5am, and taking tablets to keep my brain running and not fall asleep. Getting clients and about to sell my programming company in 2 months...
My programming teacher teaches the class such basic shit, she explains the topic very well, but for me she’s explaining how to do 2+2... last time I starred of to the window and almost started crying...
I’m very passionate about programming, Work sucks cause I need to make secure smart systems with math that take forever, I want to at least enjoy it In class, but it’s torture, fucking torture...
What should I do?6 -
Let me start by sharing a bit of history about myself.
When i finished my secondary school i did not go immediately to high school. I took a year because i needed to improve some grades to enter high school more easily.
In that year i started to learn programming languages (Java).
So when i went to high school i already had a good foundation of programming logic and could make some simple games that my friends were amazed (Like Pong and tetris).
In my first year in high school, in my hometown, a photo frame builder's shop asked me if i could make a desktop program to help him calculating prices and such.
I did it in like 4 months. This was not my biggest projet so far but was the most satisfying at the end. He paid me really good money for it and i was very proud of myself.2 -
I need help!
This is gonna be a long question/story.
I'm a Syrian based in Malaysia working as a lead web dev in a good company.
I have a friend in trouble and I want to help him.
Here's a summary:
My friend is a project manager at a gaming studio he happens to be an Iranian atheist with around 2 years of experience in the game making industry.
He worked on and delivered a couple AAA games at his current place of employment as a project manager in one of the teams that made those games.
He stood up for his team when the management was overworking team till after midnight sometimes and forcing them to work on weekends without any tangible compensations ( basically they gave them things like free lunches, movie tickets, etc).
The result of his standing up to his team was the management handing him a notice telling him that he'll be fired within 2 months due to "underperforming".
This was a month and a half ago.
He looked around in Malaysia for a job that can get him a working visa, but his niche background couldn't help.
After his termination in few weeks he can extend his stay at Malaysia for approximately 2 - 3 months.
Now the reason why I mentioned that he's an "Iranian atheist" is the fun part of this story (sarcasm), Iranian government considers him as an "infidel" and he's banned from Iran.
His Iranian passport can't get him anywhere where he can make a living.
So basically he has close to no options.
Now to where I come into all of this:
I want to help him.
I'm going to dedicate my free time for the next 2 - 3 months teaching him web development, the problem is, I don't know how to teach web development in such a short time, in fact I've never taught anyone programming from scratch.
If he can show promising results I know that I can make a case for him get him a position in the company I work for.
I already convinced him today to try and learn web development because I can tell that in Malaysia there's always demand on good web developers.
Now to my request:
how can I best teach web development to someone with no programming background ? I'm thinking about teaching him front end development, so: HTML, CSS/SASS and JavaScript. maybe react js as well if possible ( high demand is usually on React/ Angular front end developers)
Did anyone here teach programming to someone else before?
Did anyone here learn web development in such a short time?
If you've read all this... Thank you :)17 -
My dad was using notepad to edit some HTML for his website. I downloaded Visual Studio Code and he likes it SO MUCH MORE. (I wonder why....).
Kinda happy I could help him with it. He is pretty good at coding but just hasn't done it in a while (not his trade) so he doesn't know all the new tools and such.3 -
So Today I completed an android app I have been building for like 2 months then this asshole who does education looks at the app and says "This simple thing is what you have been working on for 2 months?".
This is a guy who wanted may help sometimes back on a problem with his phone when I told him to reboot the phone he even couldn't understand what rebooting is.
Such guys usually piss me off very bad. The fool even doesn't know even what coding is.
I really hate such ignorant fools who think creating anything in a computer is a very simple task.
Day ruined by this dude I feel like beating the shit out of him.
Guys who have been in this situation how do you deal with such fools.3 -
So in our last retros some of my colleagues suggested to (forced) limit the number of lines per method in order to "maximize our code quality".
In the one hand I can see the benefits of this, such as easier testability when having more sperate testable blocks of logic.
But on the other side their code contains lots of such one or two lines private methods which get most of the cases not more than one time called. (And which I then can't even test separately)
I don't understand how this should help...
Is this really a thing? Am I just not "clean" enough?
(it's c# btw)3 -
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that bitching about a problem helps me think about the problem in such a way as to help me solve the problem...
...probably just me4 -
Since my ISP doesn't allow port forwards on that port, does anyone want to open their port 445 (if not otherwise occupied by Microsoft-DS) and have netcat reply an empty string or so any request (such as an empty string) sent over TCP (or has anyone already done so)? It would help me out a lot with testing out some networks full port range (since portquiz.net's hoster blocks that port) and would take close to no bandwidth for you.6
-
Earlier I used to help my college batch mates and juniors in coding and development stuff. Sometimes I used to do some projects with them myself to help them learn. Sometimes I used to go beyond limits to debug their errors, even spending hours with them physically or through TeamViewer.
But now I have realised that I had been no more than just stackoverflow.com to them. They just call me when they need me and don't even care about me as a friend.
So that's it. Now I have stopped helping such people. I don't care if that's rude or arrogant. I just don't want to do this. If they still are a friend, well and good otherwise they can leave. I don't care anymore. -
Is it just me, or does it seem like worse languages get more usage than better ones? Like, how many people know Haskell vs. Python? A lot of people dislike JavaScript, but why is it so damn popular then? And why didn't presumably superior Dart replaced it on the web, even with Google's support and lobbying?
I think the reason is that every language has vocal critics, and when a lot of people use a language, there will be a lot of such critics. When a certain critical mass (no pun intended) is accumulated, it begins to look like everything you can read online is bad things. Of course, the language being worse than some other hip language doesn't help.
What do you think?3 -
Holy fucking monkey nuts my boss is such a cunt, he is soo damned ignorant, for some who worked in dev for 20 years, to tell another dev that is easy, should only need to change a few keys in order to be able to completely rewrite 6 months worth of work. Poor bastard was soo pissed he finished a whole bottle of whiskey.
I made him work from home today, we not really meant too, because you know, Developer do not do work if their duck dick of a manager is not there watching, and well it makes it a lot harder for him to make rediculously, moronic requests like that over slack.
Part of me was genuinely afraid he would same something equally moronic and said dev would try and kill him, which would put the rest of the office and the awkward position if having to help. Really complicated to cover that up and then get the stories straight and iron out the alibis.1 -

Hey Devrant friends!, i really hope everyone is doing very well today, and that also their week is treating them very well!, i'd like to say to everyone here i'm very sorry for my level of activity within the community.
Approximately one month ago on the 21/01/2019 i lost my best friend and fellow companion for the last 13 and a half years, therefore things have been quite difficult emotionally and just overall :-( though with time things should only get better, (I'm positive) .
Now to more of a positive part of my post :'D, i'd love to ask my fellow developers the following question, if you could help me out i'd be very much grateful!, so for awhile now i had a hobby of messing around with the stock market, and have been re-searching a specific field.
That would be investment-banks such as JP.Morgan, Morgan Stanley etc. What sort of languages would they be using, currently I've been using , C#,C++,Java, Py(learning) :'D, though im not so sure if its a good idea to be juggling so many languages at once, Also i'd love to know do they have opportunities in which allow students like myself to visit such places and see the technology behind the trading and what developers use? i'm really curious, Also are there such positions in which developers work with traders? not really 'quant' type positions, developers who work in the section?.
Friends, i'd like to thank you very much for reading my post, i know it may be quite lengthy and most likely all over the place (im sorry!) , i'm very grateful you have taken the time to do so :-), i really appreciate it!.
I really wish everyone the absolute best <3.
Thank you

!Rant
Just for blatant curiosity; how many people would ++ this just to help me get a stressball to get through this day.
Rant
So today I woke up to a message that my jobs webserver was down; and that all personal webpages for the Uni went down with it. We had no idea why or how it went down but eventually someone got it up- just in time for our Proxmox server to go down; which runs our new web server (thankfully it's not live yet), our print server, our PXE server, and more... Loving today. Such stress. Very shit.

I feel I need to write some side project summary somewhere.
So here it is about 3 months later:
- deleted 90% of code I created during last 3 months
- rewrote backed 5 times
- 200 lines POC still waiting to put in any meaningful architecture on frontend
- frontend part after aurelia, next, gatsby, react I think it would be vue powered by nuxtjs
- forced myself to buy food for whole week and don’t go out (except go running ) before I finish at least what I wrote on whiteboard
Now some positive news:
- there is not much left to be fucked up, removed or unnecessary added
- I think I got a plan
- this is probably first side project that makes me happy for such long time
- there is some probability it would help people and this is what I want to do in my life
Most important is that I know it would take at least half a year to do basic version of it and I don’t care.
Wish me luck so I can put some sneak peak after next 3 months. -
I'm absolutely sick of my current project. Our client/product owner continues to add (poorly designed) features that require complete back end restructuring and complex data migrations, despite my advice. After my coworker left last week, I'm the only developer willing to work on the model/api for our application. The rest are all frontend.
Everything I work on feels like such a heavy task. No mindless bugs to break it up, because I have no time. I have no one to talk to on my team anymore to help me solve those problems. I feel so alone and burnt out.
Any tips to better my situation here? :/
(Sorry -- this is is my first post here. It's an actually rant. And it's a depressing one at that)1 -
love hate kinda deal with this. But I am creating a program in answer set programming that would help me analyze famous chess matches from legends such as B Fischer, Carlsen, etc in an effort to stop at one point and predict what could have happened differently in the match in order to make the other player win. I am adding limiters as to not propagate into every fucking solution in existence else the processing power required to solve this shit would be all too hardcore. I learned about this programming paradigm in one of my graduate level classes using a tech known as Clingo, which is similar to Prolog. I am doing it cuz I sucked at Clingo and because of my pride I aim to make this project a reality to properly say that I know how to use it.
current status: failing somewhat miserably4 -
Hey everyone, need some help/opinions, I quite literally have almost no time anymore for alot of thing specially try share alot of news here (not the Intel mess, I reported some of that stuff before it exploded) I share most of that news in my site though, but I really wanted to ask people here that may work for hostings companies if they know about the retardation of Nvidia in their change of Terms of Services for their GPU usage (https://legionfront.me/posts/1936 ) and also want to know if users here are if they are looking for dedicated servers, mainly GPU servers for their works and what are you look for (specs and such) or rather where

Hello guys!
Some context: our subject thesis is: "Benchmarking of IoT OS". We decided to narrow down the subject to a benchmarking of real-time OS. Examples of RTOS: Contiki, RIOT, ...
As there are no such papers on the subject out there, we are looking for some people/communities that could help us answer our questions.
Thank you for your time!1 -
About getting Help.
Hey guys
I've been needing lots of Help and explanations about small electronics and Arduino stuff.
What is the best to place such questions, where we do really get answers and replies to noobs?
Or anyone here, one of the Arduino / Electronic Pros who doesn't mind handling my questions :p

Got a question guys!
I want to capture screenshots from a live video stream being broadcast over HTTPS, such as the one on this link:
https://open.ivideon.com/embed/v2/...=
I can do it locally using the chrome webdriver in selenium, but cannot reproduce the same in a server I'm accessing remotely. I tried using headless browsers like phantomJS, but apparently it doesn't support video players -_-
I'm confused because I don't even know what to search for anymore, I've been stuck with this one thing for the last 17 hours. Any help would be greatly appreciated!5 -
Hi I am a mobile developer and it really sucks when I have to consume a non RESTful API and uses custom HTTP codes. I really want this to change but I need to present a compelling reason why this is bad practice and the possible real world implications of such practice. Perhaps more experience devs can help me out?1

Iconless menus – another effect of the toxic minimalism trend. Icons in menus such as the mobile web browser and device settings help finding items faster!
In 2014, Samsung removed icons from the upper right menu of their mobile Internet browser. At some point, roughly 2017, they realized it was a bad idea and brought them back. Could've told ya that earlier. 😁5 -

I was asked to pretend to be an expert to solve a temporary solution for a client in my company. I agreed because I thought it would be a simple solution.
I was wrong.
They only gave me 4 days to train (Including my f*cking weekend) and the project requires a much more experienced consultant since I'm struggling even with the simplest of tasks. Also, the person who was suppose to help me it's not always available. And they are not actively searching for a new expert.
Today I'll talk to my team lead and the person in charge of the project and let them know that this task will require someone much more experienced.
I may get fired but at least my conscience will be clear.
I just feel bad for the client. They are such nice people.7 -

How can UX not be essential in 2017? How can a company survive with such 💩 web pages?3 -

// new Rant("help")
I am currently writing my first 'real' Ruby project. I want people to be able to contribute through a module class by extending it and implementing the needed methods. This can (if done correctly) provide new commands for the terminal and new features.
But is this a good idea? I would download the code then by using git and keep it that way updated (similar brew does). At the start of the terminal app I would add all files recursively from the folder where I clone the modules into and lookup each class that extends module and then load the new content.
Is there another way of creating such a 'modular' application in Ruby?
They way I load the modules is through the inherited method, I just add the classes (not a concrete object created with new) to a list and retrieve it at runtime.
Would be nice to get some feedback going on here, not sure if my idea is good/bad. -
Ok, this question is related to mysql and php.,
Let me state the current situation
I have a db, say "gd".
That db has several tables all with same columns.(i.e same fields for different manufacturers such as product name, cost , stock etc.)
Now i want to know how many tables have the product 'a' in them and what's the cost of 'a' in each of those table.(tables are generated dynamically so I'll never now how many tables are there, well ofcourse i can refer information schema, but just wanted to highlight this fact). So is there a way to achieve this?.. excluding "dump the whole data and then search it" solution.
Plz help, .. sorry for my bad English, .9 -
I have working for software engineering for the past 8 years without any degree at all. However, in my latest job interviews one of the things I mainly lacked was understanding and applying the algorithmic concepts. As I hadn't maths since I left college, what would you recommend me?
I was looking for some kind of a course (it is always better when you have someone with whom you can discuss with), but such a specific one doesn't seem to exist in Portugal, and taking an entire degree because of algorithms is not an option to me.
Ideas?
PS: I am currently working, however I do understand that a new algorithmic thinking would help me in my daily job.5 -
So I was able to learn something really neat about firefox. Apparently you can create a user.js file that will have all your about:config settings. I wanted to export my settings from my old profile, but could not. I exported all my bookmarks though. (Perhaps should have exported profile?)
If you go:
pancake -> Help -> More TroubleShooting Information -> Profile Folder: Open Folder you get a file manager pointing to your profile directory. Here you can create a user.js to house your settings. Such as:
user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.enabled", true);
user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style", 3);
user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override", 15);
This makes the scrollbar stay and I can control style and width.11 -

Hello fellow Ranters,
I'm in need of some help, I want to try building a small website, like maybe 4 pages worth of work for my uncle. But I'd like to build it in such a way that a non-programmer (my uncle) could upload photos to a portfolio section through an administrative console page. I'm doing this mostly to learn how to build something like this and also as a side project to help out my uncle.
From what I've read, I'm thinking that Angular (maybe?) might be the right way to go about building dynamic pages, but I'm not really sure and was wondering what you guys would suggest? If possible can you please also recommend a place where I can find examples for something like this?
Thank you in advance for your help and recommendations, I really appreciate it!!!7 -
I feel compelled to figure out how to use software in a gaming setting to teach skills like CS and Math. But do it in a way that is fun and not feeling like a "math game".
I want to spend more time learning about algorithms, architectures, design approaches, etc. Writing such a game would force me to understand what I present in a very intimate way.
I can see a way to create algos in game using very visual ways. Then allowing someone to make superstructures combining those algos to solve tasks.
I was inspired by how some algos require data to be sorted a certain way before starting. As the algo as a side effect resorts the data to know when it has completed. I realized if an algo is generic enough it can be combined just like functions or objects.
I also want to learn math better, especially in conjunction with code. So making a platform for learning these would be a lot of fun. I would definitely want both visual and textual interfaces to the code. I have to imagine a real programmer being frustrated with a visual interface unless it was really compelling.
I find it interesting that a lot of algos are represented visually when trying to show how it works. I realize some probably cannot be visualized so easy though.
I also want to use software like this to teach someone to think more deliberately and help people be more disciplined in their thinking. I know I could use this.
I have a secret goal of being able to use such software to help someone become a math/programming wizard. I don't know if this is achievable, but having exercises that help solidify root concepts in a fun way would be really useful IMO. -

I'll start charging hourly for jobs and I'd like some suggestions on how to track my time properly, apps and such that could help me to that. Integration with Sublime would be nice, or something that tracks it automatically.. dunno. I'm afraid i will forget to track if I have to do it manually.
Thanks :)8 -
Actually got my testing program done today! I got some help and the person told me what was happening and how the function worked and helped me understand everything and what to do to not reproduce the same error and it was such an enjoyable talk/explanation. It makes me feel so much better when I actually learn what I’m doing wrong.2

This is just me throwing out my thoughts from the past few weeks.
edit: this is long
> Working on a C# project. its going well Its teaching me a lot about SQLite and file IO. I'm having a lot of fun with it, even the debugging as much I want to slam my head on the wall but I'm not asking for help so far and I'm very proud of myself because it feels so much better. like I don't mind asking for help but its so much more rewarding and I learn more from it.
> I need portfolio of software I can show off to employers and the current project I'm working on is the first programs in the portfolio. The place I want to apply to uses C#, but I still wanted a few other programs in other languages such as Python or JS just to show what I'm capable of.
> I was looking at what ASP.NET Core offers and it impresses the fuck out of me, and confuses me. The parts that confuse me, like for example the normal asp webapp is a very impressive hello world app. and it has so many different files and such but how or what do they expect me to add? how am I supposed to work with it? and if I delete any files I don't need (the premade js, bootstrap, jquery, html, and css) it produces errors because of the project files are pointing to those. and i know I can use the empty project (I do) but does that question my ability as a dev since I don't want to use it for my projects?
> On that note I love using Intellisense and debuggers and auto complete and I can go without them I just don't want to rely on them. idk I've just been a little more stressed these past few weeks.4 -
Eurgh, sometimes there's just *no need* to change stuff between major API versions - such as the AWS secret key being read from aws.secretKey in v1 of the AWS Java SDK, and aws.secretAccessKey in v2.
Just spent way too long to admit wondering why the secret key wasn't being picked up before realising the above. Doesn't help we have multiple projects on differing major versions of the SDK either.6 -
Optimizely/Episerver is such a fucking piece of shit I want to fucking kill everyone who made this god forsaken mound of rotting garbage. I don’t even know what the history of it is because the documentation is convoluted as shit and poorly written. Whenever I Google something about it, the top answers are fucking 10+ years old and have not a god damn thing to do with the original problem. But guess what, they still use the same fucking useless error messages as they did 10+ years ago. Fucking idiots. The community for it doesn’t help at all. It’s fucking impossible to learn anything about it. Even the experts in this don’t have any idea what they are doing. Fuck this shit. How useful is my degree? I'm not sure to be honest. I did get to dive into a lot of subject matter which I find interesting and challenging. I also had to learn stuff I hate (solving matrices of differential equations). Strangely though, even though I doubt I will ever use this I am proud of myself for having slugged though it.
The teachers were helpful and supportive, I got to study in groups and had access to resources such as the university's GPU cluster.
In my day2day? So far, I cannot see anything I use directly. However, the university forced me to learn to pick up different technologies quickly, read the documentation, ask for help when your don't understand something. So, in that regard I think I profited from university.
I wasn't the best student by a long shot. My class mates helped me a lot. I struggled A LOT. Having been in the recieving end of a helping hand, o return the favour where ever I can. -
If they could pay me to:
Play video games - Counter Strike
Read good books
Play games such as table tennis, pool

And may be, once a while I code something interesting, where they help me out in everything I need...
And that would be my ideal job :P -
Any tips for wannabe programmer? I've learned java basics and feel quite comfortable with them. Unable to write any projects though. I think reading and trying to understand some different medium sized projects source code could help. Do you know where I could find such a thing?6

At some point I need to do an older project i've had on hold a while, but it'd require writing my own ROM patch system as a major step in completing it, as i'd need to dynamically patch stuff into older games based on system, which current patch formats don't allow for. (This project will also help me learn a few things I need for yet more projects I've got stashed away, so it needs to happen eventually.)
Now, the interesting part: the patch format. I was debating on whether to use binary data, like IPS/BPS and similar formats do, which would be easier to implement... but if I were to have plaintext patches, you'd be able to not only understand what's happening, but also have things like scripting and conditionals and user-defined options and such. This would be WAY harder to implement, slow as fuck, and require an assembler per-target-system, either external or internal... but it'd be transparent, editable, and hella extendable.
This would all happen after I'm both over my burnout AND done chewing through my current stack of projects and such, of course, but still... which sounds better to you, dear reader?2 -
Haven't done much work on my game since December. Ok so I havent done anything on my game since December. Learned Mockito and JUnit formally (finally) because that's what we'll be using at work.
Never really learnt unit testing prior, just knew it's power. I just need to find the right unit testing and mocking frameworks that work well with .net, C# and Unity3D and I'll be great.
I'll finally attempt to properly test that (those) annoying part(s) of my game. So many vectors to work out and often the object is moved to or along the wrong vector.
I'd always only imagined having to use stubs which is why I've never understood how unit testing would really help in such a dynamic environment as video game development. Especially as a one man team. Mocking is about to be my lifesaver.
Anyone able to suggest a good testing and/or mocking framework for C#, .Net, Unity3D? -
Was just doing 'work from home from hometown' since end of last month...
Using a Macbook Pro since couple of years now, it was such pleasure using it for developement!!

Never seen this kind of shit happening to a non-macbook!! Such marvelous things of design -- my ass!!

So the other day, an old acquaintance asks me (a noob full stack dev) for advice on what programming langs to languages to learn.
I (like all other noobs eager to help) asked him about his previous programming skills, if any. He says "Yes yes, I did a course on HTML and CSS." To this I ask, what exactly are you looking to do. Back-end development he says.
I am frustrated with people asking me what to learn and how to learn when they are not even willing to do slightest of the work themselves. I am usually very helpful to people, but as a programmer, I would certainly try to do a complete research before I go around asking others.
What do you guys do? How do you handle such questions.4 -
damn I want to go to this Droidcon in november but this introverty, meeky, lack of confidence syndrome is stopping me.
I absolutely love meetups but I have always attended them with a web dev friend of mine, who is an asshole. I once attended a meetup alone, but i was like sitting like a log on 1 side of the room, interacting with only the speaker and then back to silent, meek log. Everyone there was with some friends or someone but this shitty mouth of me can't talk any shit to them.
So currently my asshole friend is not interested in anything non web dev and i have no one to go alongside. Plus i will be going in a different state, so my mom is sure gonna give a big fat nope. Mom would not be a problem, but i am myself so dependent and foolish i might end up in some trouble or again as a log.
Ahhh fuck me. why do i have to be such a leech character. god help me talk to ppl :/1 -
Working along side another consultant house for a client, we have our shit ready weeks ago for integration testing (as was the deadline) against the other guys. We tell them we are ready, but we need them to be ready too, there are some tricky format things and we basically let them spec it out since they integrate further down the line.
They come _NOW_ way over deadline with change requests in message formats, like MOTHERFUCKER, IM ON MY WEEKEND NOW. We KNEW the client wanted it ready next week, thats why we were ready in time. You are not gonna cost me my weekend.
(is what i wanted to say, the devs on the other team are super nice and just absolutely overloaded with work which i cannot help them with)
One thing is certain, tonight my internet access mysteriously dissappears and wont open until monday morning. Such a shame -
Since I sort of started web development seriously about two years and a little bit I’ve decided to raise the bar and intentionally lie in my resume to hopefully find a job that can help me to sustain my wife who is sick and my newborn son. I changed my experience to +3 years and out some “ghost” projects. No offers. Then, I put 5 years and tweaked projects and experience here and there. Again...nothing, nada, no offers. Should I just go all above and put 10 years and experience such as Microsoft and big 500 companies? I mean I hate to do this but I feel like I’m in a hole than I can’t get out while I’m gaining more and more knowledge every single day. I’m learning a lot about JavaScript which is my fav language as well as React. Authentication/Authorization and it’s different hierarchies/ inheritance methodologies as well as single and multi sign on methods applied to scalable web apps. I just what would be the outcome after lying so big. I hate lying but what’s so wrong with the market that I can’t find a job? Hold your fire and put in my shoes before ranting me. I don’t give this advice to anyone it’s just my experience looking for a job and my actual situation. ( currently working as IT Help Desk Level II)4

If anyone is good with dart (or) other single threaded programming languages, i have this small doubt about the inner workings of the event loop and such and i would like an explanation if possible.
If you're too lazy to goto the link:
1. I have a future returned from a http request.
2. a future.then is declared that prints the http result.
3. A separate while(true) loop is declared that runs forever that just prints natural numbers.
4. the while loop also has an await future.delay that waits for 1ms before continuing with the next iteration
My question :
1. There's only one thread so how does the http download code run WHILE my main loop is still executing.
2. my future.then event is not processed unless i await a future.delay separately for 1ms. returning control to the event loop ? i don't get it how does adding an event help it process a prior event? It's FIFO ?

Candidates must check application essay sample to suit their specific purpose
Students require checking any available application essay (https://wikihow.com/Write-an-Applic...) sample for its authenticity and reliability. In this regard, students should remember that maximum number of the papers available on-line, mostly free, is simply the cut and paste job, which make the task of candidates difficult in making their decision. Therefore, it is essential to check the quality of written work of such samples, while students need hunting for the example, which can suit their purpose
For example, students desiring admission to a particular course program in pathology, would need an essay sample, which would relate to the field of analytical medicine, while any written work on the subject of pathological laboratory tests can be excellent. The Todo App is such a simple example that for a lot of libraries/frameworks it does very little to give me confidence that it's useful in large scale applications. So the solution is always get stuck in using the thing, hope the community are active enough to help answer questions and that the whole thing isn't a waste of time.4

Dear web developers, please think of the boot disk users.
Users might have to boot their computer from external bootable media such as a live USB stick, SSD, or live CD/DVD, after their operating system caught a problem that prevents it from booting.
Emergency boot media usually has earlier versions of web browsers because they are not frequently used, much less updated. Sadly, the developers of many websites have a habit of breaking compatibility for older web browsers. For example, the new audio player used by the Internet Archive (Archive.org) does not even support Firefox 57, a version that was released as recently as November 2017!
Therefore, websites should retain support for old web browsers. If not all features can be made to work, at least the essential features should work on older browser versions. Websites should not let down people who are stuck due to a computer problem. Those users should still be able to browse the Internet for help, and perhaps enjoy basic entertainment such as watching videos (YouTube, Dailymotion) and listenening to music or audio books (SoundCloud, Internet Archive) while at it.
The attached screenshot shows something no internet user wants to be "greeted" with.
Keep the Internet accessible.18 -

CBD oil has been used for years by individuals, who want to reduce their dependence on drugs. It was only recently that CBD was studied for possible pain relief by medical professionals. It is a highly important part of any healthy diet, because it is an important natural compound in plants.
Since the ancient Chinese first use marijuana as a medicinal treatment in 3000 BC, various cultures have used its healing properties, for a variety of medical conditions. However, in modern society, people often rely on pharmaceutical drugs to deal with their pain. One of the common problems with painkillers is that they can cause a number of side effects that can worsen your health. These side effects include depression, anxiety, insomnia, irritability, suicidal thoughts and more. Therefore, people have been turning towards natural remedies for their pain relief.
CBD oil has been shown to be very effective at reducing your pain, especially if you are taking narcotic painkillers. It is believed to stop or prevent the onset of physical discomfort, which means it does not provide temporary relief. As long as you are using it regularly, it can effectively help you overcome your pain.
In recent studies, medical professionals have suggested that the effectiveness of CBD was increased when it was combined with other herbs, such as ginger and eucalyptus. The main reason for this is that these two herbs have a great deal of medicinal qualities. Many people choose to combine these two natural ingredients to help reduce the amount of chemicals in their body, which will lead to a reduction in pain. By taking these products together, you will feel a reduction in pain faster than ever before.
You need to take care when using these products, however, as it is important to make sure that you do not take more than one product at a time. Taking too much of a product can actually create a higher chance of adverse reactions.
People have discovered that by taking CBD oil, they can relieve their pain, without relying on pharmaceutical drugs. If you have been using painkillers for a long period of time, try using a supplement to help you get the relief you are looking for.
Another great thing about CBD oil for pain relief is that it will help you maintain a healthy appetite. Studies have shown that when people eat foods high in CBD, such as hemp seeds and hemp oil, their bodies release natural hormones to help them fight off hunger.
If you are interested in finding out more about CBD oil for pain relief, check out. They can tell you about the various uses of the oil, the different strains of it and what to expect from it when using it.11 -
Nothing like constantly having to spend 3-5 days of spin up on trying to help another team with their microservices because they have such a severe lack of documentation that I can't just follow a readme to get their projects running. Instead, I have to bug one of their developers to help me get it up and running (because they use non-standard project setups and dependency management), delaying things even more. No matter how much I scream that we need documentation no one makes it a priority.
Did I mention these are microservices written in Golang and I'm a front end developer? And I'm being made to work on back end tasks because we have a crazy high attrition rate and they won't back fill the back end positions.3 -

damn sorry devs , i know you ppl are here for relaxation , but please help me out.
i am creating a browser and wanna have an edittext which works something like this :
>>user enters 'fb' , there should be a google search for fb(i.e load the string "https://www.google.com/search?q=fb")
>> user enters fb.com , webview should open it directly (i.e load the string "https://www.fb.com" )
>> some nerdy user enters http://www.fb.com or https://www.fb.com , it should load that
I know the function to make it load, what i don't know is how to modify that string to show such behaviors .
The webview is dumb enough to not behave like tht by default. although it feels good having such a raw and tool in hand, but hell, its a fucking google's webview! , why can't they just throw in some built in ways to show their search results by default when user enters a malformed url ?? that would be a great source of branding --__--7 -

Well not like friends as such but kinda of get people respect when you are good at it.
It was during 12th Grade while working on our project for the year , everyone had some kind of doubt and you know the Teacher is not always free to help every one so after looking at what me and my friends were creating she said approach them for your doubts.
Well I can be a prick sometime if I want to be mostly because you are writing bad code or your facts are wrong hence not a lot of them used to like , like me.
But after that they had no option hence felt pretty badass after that.
And like not that I was criticizing them but it you don't want to learn then please solve your own doubts yourself.
Maybe I was wrong to you know to teach everyone. but well that's me do it right else don't do it. -

Just started reading Cracking the Coding Interview and I just can't help but think this whole thing is a joke. The author can't even give a convincing argument why learning algorithm is important for interview. She simply states word for word: it is what it is.
I google her a bit and find that she started her venture Careercup.com and the website is such a joke. How can you even call yourself a software engineer with a website like that. I am pretty sure she using some kind of wordpress engine.
I can't imagine how many people that work at FANG companies that think like her..6 -

Lads. I need your help.
I'm building a little web app project in class where a user can create their own micro-personal page similar to about.me, except a little more modular.
users can add cards to their page with a title, maybe an image, some text, and some buttons.
my question is: how can I represent such things in my database? I can think of how a json file representation might look, but not sure how that translates to SQL?
here's how I imagine it:
userProfileComponents ={
cards=[
{
title: sometitle
image: src
text: null
button: { icon: facebook, text: facebook}
},
{
title: another title
image: null
text: some stuff about me
button: null
}
]
I wouldn't want to create a table for each micro-page - cause that would scale like absolute shit. but I feel like cramming EVERYONES components in a component table would be hell on earth. any tips? thanks22 -
Russians Engineer a Brilliant Slot Machine Cheat
...But as the “pseudo” in the name suggests, the numbers aren’t truly random. Because human beings create them using coded instructions, PRNGs can’t help but be a bit deterministic. (A true random number generator must be rooted in a phenomenon that is not manmade, such as radioactive decay.) PRNGs take an initial number, known as a seed, and then mash it together with various hidden and shifting inputs—the time from a machine’s internal clock, for example—in order to produce a result that appears impossible to forecast. But if hackers can identify the various ingredients in that mathematical stew, they can potentially predict a PRNG’s output. That process of reverse engineering becomes much easier, of course, when a hacker has physical access to a slot machine’s innards...

So for one of my uni courses we're writing arm assembly. That's pretty cool. What's not cool is the shit textbook written by the instructor, the asshat elitists on every single fucking help thread, and the fucking garbage documentation.
But hey, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I mean, after all, you should need to spend 5+ hours to discover where the fuck you should place a label for a god damn binary constant. Oh, and once you've finally got code that'll link, good fuckin luck getting it to load the address of that constant in a register.
At least I have a good explanation on why those guys on the forums are such fucking dicks: Stockholm Syndrome. -
Hello everyone,
I wanted to share with you a useful resource. There are many frameworks that help to create responsive and flexible web apps.
According to me, Bootstrap 5 is the best framework as it offers many features such as experimental support for CSS Grid and offcanvas in the navbar. Also, a new placeholders component, horizontal collapse support, and many more.
As we all know, it is an open-source framework that offers responsive structure and styles for building new projects and websites.
Here, in Today's rant, I am sharing some useful Bootstrap Practice projects that will help you to learn and sharpen your skills as a developer.

could anyone help me calculating costs for AWS and Google Colab Services? I find it quite intransparent...
i would like to host 1x Python App which runs once a day or week (API call, enrichment uf JSON, JSON 2 CSV, FTP transfer). runtime is probably a few seconds, something between 1 and 5.
in AWS i created a Lambda function and for scheduling i guess i need CloudWatch. what really grind my gears is the combination of free contingent and paied service - i really don't have an overview right now, so my question here: how could i calculate it and what would be the monthly/yearly costs?
in Google Colab created a notebook and for scheduling i would need Google Cloud Scheduler. as far as i understand the hosting of the notebook is for free and the costs of cloud scheduler is $0.10 per job per project per month. 3 are for free. so 1 project, 1 job = scheduler for free?
Also, i'm open for other services such as digital ocean droplets or similar.
thx in advance for your help!8 -
Hi all,
Are there any developer tools that you wish were available for React, Angular or Vue?
A few schoolmates and I are looking to build an open source developer tool in order to help current engineers who are working with some of the popular front end technologies, such as React, Angular and Vue. We have seen a few prototyping tools for React and Vue and we also came across Bit Dev for React - would angular or vue developers like a tool like Bit Dev? We are looking to build something impactful and meaningful to the community and would really like your opinion on any developers tools that you would like to see.1 -

What are the parts of the CNC Wire Bending Machine?
A CNC wire bending machine is a complex piece of equipment used to bend the wire into various shapes and configurations with precision. It consists of several key parts and operates based on the instructions provided by a computer program. Here are the main parts of a CNC wire-bending machine and an overview of how it works:
1. Wire Feeding Mechanism:
This part of the machine is responsible for feeding the wire from a coil or spool into the bending area.
Wire feeding mechanisms can include rollers, pulleys, or servo-driven motors that control the wire's movement.
2. Straightening Unit:
- Before bending, the wire may pass through a straightening unit, which ensures that the wire is free from kinks and bends.
- This step helps produce precise bends by starting with a straight wire.
3. Bending Head and Tooling:
- The bending head contains the tools and dies needed to shape the wire.
- Tooling includes various components such as clamps, rollers, and mandrels that hold and shape the wire according to the desired design.
4. Guide Rollers and Pulleys:
- These components help guide the wire through the bending process, ensuring it follows the correct path and angles.
5. Control Panel or Interface:
- CNC wire bending machines are typically equipped with a control panel or computer interface.
- Operators input the design specifications, such as bend angles, lengths, and shapes, through this interface.
6. Computer Control System:
- The heart of the CNC wire bending machine is its computer control system.
- It interprets the design specifications and converts them into precise movements and commands for the machine.
- CNC software programs are used to create and store the bending instructions.
7. Servo Motors and Actuators:
- These components are responsible for moving the bending head, tooling, and other parts of the machine with high precision.
- Servo motors and actuators receive commands from the control system to carry out specific movements.
8. Sensors and Feedback Mechanisms:
- Sensors placed throughout the machine monitor various parameters, such as wire position, tension, and tooling alignment.
- Feedback from these sensors allows the machine to make real-time adjustments, ensuring accuracy and quality in the final product. -
I keep having this recurring idea that I can fill in the gaps in my education by writing video games that allow me to explore those topics. This would force me to learn the subject well enough to share it with other people. So it would not be just surface level.
I keep thinking of a program that explores and visualizes math topics and programming topics. I would really like to have a program that allows me to visualize memory cells for algorithm exploration. Or a really nice graphing calculator in the computer that allows me to view multiple graphs to compare and contrast equations.
What holds me back is both math and CS are huge topics. I feel like any kind of playground would only cover a small subset. Ideally whatever I make should be extendable over time to add content and topics. It would need to be somewhat fun as well.
I can imagine an AI training program where you help your character navigate a room of hazards or die. This could be one such fun challenge.1 -
Good day, everyone!
I don't want to terrify anyone, but the rise in internet theft is a growing concern that we cannot ignore. The digital age has brought numerous advantages, but it has also introduced new risks, especially in the realm of online fraud. Recently, a relative of mine fell victim to an investment scam that promised a 100 percent return in just a week. While such promises may sound tempting and almost too good to be true, they are often red flags indicating fraudulent schemes. It’s easy to think that such scams only target those who are naive or greedy, but the reality is that anyone can become a victim of these sophisticated frauds. Scammers use increasingly convincing tactics to lure individuals into their traps, making it crucial for all of us to remain vigilant and informed about potential threats. Fortunately, there is hope even if you've been scammed. The first and most important step is to seek assistance rather than succumbing to fear and despair. Ignoring the situation or feeling embarrassed can prevent you from taking necessary actions that could help you recover your losses. In my relative’s case, after realizing he had been duped, he decided to take action. He completed a thorough investigation and was lucky enough to discover a service called Tech Cyber Force Recovery. Tech Cyber Force Recovery specializes in helping individuals who have been defrauded recover their funds from fraudulent schemes. They have a track record of successfully retrieving money that has been lost to bogus investment companies. It was eye-opening to learn that such services exist and can be effective. The idea that professionals could help recover stolen funds from scammers was something I hadn’t fully appreciated before. The key takeaway here is that there are resources and experts available to assist those affected by online fraud. It’s not just about accepting the loss and moving on; there are actionable steps you can take to potentially recover your funds. Tech Cyber Force Recovery, for example, works by leveraging its expertise and tools to trace and reclaim stolen assets, providing a glimmer of hope to those who have been misled by fraudulent operations. Additionally, it's important to note that filing a complaint with such services does not always require an upfront payment. Many reputable recovery services offer initial consultations or evaluations without demanding payment right away. This allows you to assess the situation and understand your options before committing any resources. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, reaching out for professional help should be your first course of action. In sharing this information, my aim is to empower others with the knowledge that there is support available. Being informed about the existence of Tech Cyber Force recovery and understanding how to approach them can make a significant difference in navigating the aftermath of an online scam. Remember, the best defense against fraud is to be proactive and seek help as soon as possible. It's worth reiterating that awareness and caution are critical. Educate yourself about common scams and warning signs, and always verify the legitimacy of investment opportunities before committing any funds. By staying informed and vigilant, we can better protect ourselves and others from falling victim to these deceptive schemes. while internet theft is a serious issue, it is not an insurmountable one. With the right knowledge and resources, like those provided by Tech Cyber Force Recovery, it’s possible to recover from such losses and prevent future incidents. Share this knowledge with others and encourage them to seek help if needed. Together, we can build a safer online community and safeguard ourselves against the growing threat of internet fraud.

How To Make Sure That A Construction Cradle Is Perfect For Safe Use?
Construction and maintenance cradles are used by millions of construction workers who need to work in inaccessible or elevated areas. The OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) has laid down a few standards that can help safeguard workers who operate on cradles. In many cases, workers suffer injuries in accidents involving cradles – as the support or planking gives way, or there is slippage of the worker on being struck by an object falling. Poor cradles are also a major reason for accidents. Read and know how you can ensure that a construction cradle is ideal to be used in a safe and proper way.
Check the base
You have to ensure that the scaffold’s base area is completely stable. In case the base lies on items such as blocks of concrete, loose bricks, boxes or barrels, it is not possible to raise a safe cradle. Such types of things are not stable, and cannot offer a level foundation. The footing has to be able to support the cradle that is loaded, without moving or settling. The cradle needs to be set on items that offer a solid foundation, such as mud sills or base plates.
Safe rails and platforms
In case the temporary cradles are 10-inch or more in height over a lower level, it is a good idea to install toeboards, midrails and top rails. These have to be set up on every open side of a cradle platform, so that workers do not fall off from the platform even if they slip.

In the rapidly evolving world of trading, binary options have become a popular choice for many investors, promising high returns and straightforward strategies. Unfortunately, this simplicity has also made it a target for fraudulent schemes. Many traders have fallen victim to unscrupulous brokers who exploit their trust and manipulate their investments. If you’ve been scammed by a binary options broker, it’s crucial to act wisely and explore options for recovering your lost funds. One of the most pressing issues in the binary options market is the risk of encountering fraudulent brokers. These scammers use a variety of tactics to lure investors, such as offering attractive bonuses, promising unrealistic returns, and creating manipulated trading environments. Once they’ve gained your trust and secured your funds, they may implement strategies that prevent withdrawals or create obstacles requiring additional deposits before you can access your money. I personally experienced the devastating effects of such a scam. I lost $185,250 USD to an unregulated online broker who manipulated my account and blocked my access to my investments. This might include legal actions, negotiations with the broker, or other methods to pressure the fraudulent entity into returning your money. Being aware of red flags associated with fraudulent brokers can also help protect you. Common warning signs include unregulated platforms, persistent pressure to deposit more money, and difficulty accessing your funds. Now I have a real, not controversial question. Many times using a specific technology I get stack and despite years of experience (in other similar technologies) it seems I'm not able to go on. Maybe a colleague can help me, maybe they can't. Many "experts" say that they haven't had any problems in that area, but you see a lot of people that either: 1) keep changing their technology stack because they keep bumping into problmes 2) stop learning because novelities are such difficult to integrate 3) resort to already integrated tools that are less customizable (and less powerful) (microsoft benefits from these people). I want to say openly that I often bump into problems expecially in open source stacks. I often need help and I struggle to find it.4

I have a mini laptop ( i-ball CompBook Excelance). I want to add an extra monitor to it for coding purpose. Can I do it? Someone suggested me not to do so as monitor would require more power which this laptop will not be able to provide and would result in a short circuit. Is it so that I can't add a monitor to this kind of mini laptop? If it's possible then tell me the kind of monitor to add and it's procedure.
Also it has a 2gb sdRAM. Can I run Android Studio in that? Or can I add more RAM to it?
I know I have asked too many questions here! But please help me guys coz I think that this is the platform where I'll get answers to all my queries. The people I am surrounded with are not worthy to ask such questions. Please help!

I am very pleased with the help R O O T K IT S REC O VE RY FIRM rendered in restoring my lost crypto investment from scammers.. I was encouraged to invest in a cryptocurrency company through an advert that i watched on the facebook . it was actually interesting and seems profitable so i contacted the company and they responded.. i asked a few question and i was assured that everything works perfectly and legit. At first i started with 5000 USD after awhile i had it returned to me together with my profits with no problems. As a result of that i continued trading as i was also advised to upgrade to the Millionaire package where you will earn much more off your trading, i did upgraded and invested more funds that my account was showing in excess of 1,280,902 USD but when I tried to take some of the profits my account went from the above to zero within 60 seconds and then after making complaints to the support i was told that I had not completed the required trades and also that their were suspicious activities on my account.. it was certainly over my head and honestly didn’t know what to do at that moment so i had to invest more but still not able to withdraw a dollar to my bank, they had full control of my account, and have refused me to withdraw anything. i finally came to know that most crypto investment companies are bunch of criminals and scammers.., so i went in search for possible means to recover my funds. Well i must say that I’m very fortunate to have been able to recover all my funds back through the help of R O O T K I TS R E C O V E RY F IRM. got so many recommendations on them by fellow victims online who has been scammed and recovered theirs back. so i contacted them for help and they delivered at the End. i thank God so much that such Team as ROOTKITS RECOVERY FIRM do exist to help victims who have been defrauded.
