Getting married to a female dev sounds cool, until she starts setting up a trello board for house tasks.🙅23
-
People posting pictures of their stickers are getting more up votes than my posts attempting to attain stickers.10
-
When people write me at 5am on facebook, they think, how nice and organized my life is so I am getting up early. Truth is, I have not slept yet.4
-
*trying to find bug*
Me: Hmm, let's do grocery shopping.
*getting ready, locking everything up*
*standing outside for three seconds*
*realizes what the bug must be*
*opens everything again and fixes bug*
*locks everything up for the second time*
*Goes grocery shopping*
So that just happened.5 -
Just broke up with my ex-girlfriend after 2 years of relationship. This might sound strange but scrolling after scrolling on dev rant is actually helping me getting through this situation!13
-
Today I'm 40 years old..
Should i be afraid?
Will i be filtered out?
will i stop getting "pick up" messages from hot girls on linkedin, who's
Only intrested in my mind?
am i too old for this to be my room?24 -
Been 2+ years and still getting +1s on it. Either people are digging up their feeds too deep or devRant's content discovery is just too good. xD13
-
Me: Sorry X I won't be able to continue my job search. Currently in hospital got hit by a car.
Recruiter: I'm so sorry to hear that hope your recovery goes well.
2hrs later
Recruiter: just a catch-up - when did you say you're getting discharged?
😐6 -
Working from home in 2020:
Both kids haven't interrupted me in an unusually long time.... That likely means they're up to no good.
On the other hand I'm getting a lot of coding done (bunch of fixes done / misc new tasks done).
So now I sort of do a little mental math to guess if the damage they might be doing is less than the value of me getting shit done for work....18 -
I have been up for 3 days now, coding. I am dangerously ahead of master.
To late to turn back now.
This fucker is getting pushed.22 -
Wasn't a hackathon but an AI programming compition. I ended up getting food poisoning and ended up projectile vomiting in the hallway right outside the bathroom. Didn't turn out too bad. I ended up getting 2nd place.5
-
My team mate designated as Lead Engineer, pushed the compiled Java class files to Git!! And fuckers like him always end up getting paid more than you!! 😡6
-
Have you seen that movie Up? The one with the dog that's easily distracted? Yea I'm that dog.
I'll work for about 15-20 or until I fix something the way iike it, and then I end up getting distracted for another 5-10 minutes.2 -
!dev
lol I keep getting in trouble over people taking secondhand-offense, and managers keep bringing up the same instances like I’m somehow at fault.
Look, if Alice says something to Bob, and Carol hears it and gets offended on Bob’s behalf, but Bob doesn’t? Carol should jump off a bridge.10 -
Thought of buying an HTC Vive then I realized I would need to add a few things to my shopping list:
- 16 GB Ram cards
- Windows 10
- 2 TB Hard drive
- NVIDIA Graphics Card
- HDMI Display Port/Controller
- 2 monitors
My parents ended up getting me a Google Cardboard6 -
Last week of my current job! Have to get up at 03:30 every night.
I fall asleep around 11pm every evening.
I'm getting used to 4 and a half hours sleep a night 😓
This is not good. 😩12 -
The most useless developer on my internship program last summer ends up getting a full time offer at Google. #DataStructuresAreTheKeyToLife8
-
Come on dfox! Where's our setting that lets up auto-opt out of these! D;
I just had to go through one after another so I would stop getting them.11 -
Apparently, working from home means "you are available 24/7 right?" at my current workplace. I am grateful that I have a job, but I do not dig getting emails or my guys getting harassed after hours for things that would normally have to wait until the next day.
I also dislike getting woken up by the Head of Department 1 hour to 2 hours before normal time because of something super-duper-zomg urgent that would normally wait. Which is why my phone is now on silence for phone calls and my notifications for emails is out after hours.11 -
With the cheese grater and $1,000 monitor stand getting a lot of the attention from WWDC, this ended up being a less talked about product.
Idk about you guys, but this is definitely a steal! Plan on getting a few of them when they are released.11 -
I realized some time ago that when people ask you to do something and it is too generic, if you keep pushing for an explanation they end up getting angry at you as if you are the stupid one.
So funny, I'm always doing it on meetings now and laughing inside :)2 -
When the stupidest people on the planet move in next to you and burn nearly everything you own to the ground...and don't even have the courtesy to wake you up before getting out of the building themselves.10
-
That moment when you're finally getting your user registration and login system up and running!
As a web dev student I feel like I have accomplished something :)10 -
When I signed up to devRant 2 min ago it asked me about "Skills (js, xcode.. .)".
I was like "eeeew... Well.. Getting to university in time?"
- me, student in the first semester.12 -
Nothing like waking up to racist messages from a client that isn't even under contract yet, guess who's getting flagged and muted.5
-
Someone I know recommended me to Google... Not sure if I'm excited or scared if they call.
Not getting my hopes up though. 👀5 -
Fried from working all day, not long after getting up and doing something else the itch returns.
Coding is a drug and we're all addicts. -
Okay, windows, it's cool that you're getting a dark themed explorer and overall UWP-Fluent Design improvements but...
What's up with this context menu, which has a button saying "close [context] menu"?
(this is made up of screenshots, not a recording - the actual animation is much smoother)15 -
My girlfriend's dog died, so I tried to cheer her up by getting her an identical one. It just made her more upset. She screamed at me, "What am I supposed to do with two dead dogs?"1
-
I have had fiber for a week now and still can't get over how amazing it is to see this speed at my house. I'm getting 125 mbps download and upload coming from 6 mbps down/0.6 mbps up. I feel like I can do anything!10
-
Woke up to an email from someone, saying that a blog post (tutorial) I had made really helped them. It's always nice to hear that I've made something that helps people. But idk, there's something special about getting that feedback via email, maybe because it takes more steps to send an email..?3
-
Me: (upon waking up) "I am going to be very productive today."
Me: (during my commute) "I am going to be very productive today."
Me: (getting coffee before going in) "I am going to be very productive today."
Me: (sitting down to be very productive today) "Oh look! New devRant notifications!"1 -
When you've had a long ass 14 hour day and you're getting nowhere with a problem so you finally accept its time to go to bed...
You lie there for 45 minutes doing nothing but thinking up awesome solutions to the problem you went to bed over....4 -
Found out my wife is pregnant with twins. Had to give up my office for an alcove in the kitchen. Finished getting everything made/installed last week.
Stay safe7 -
Today, I planned on getting started with something different.
I've been thinking of learning some new stuff in Java, which I'm totally unfamiliar with.
So, I thought of creating a widget for devRant.
It is basically a small web browser which only opens up devRant.8 -
I'm torn between waking up early so I can have time for myself to study/code to get a better job, and getting enough sleep. I end up getting neither.3
-
No line for the bathroom. Listening to music without headphones. Getting up and pacing around like a crazy person when I'm thinking. Cursing loudly. Not wearing pants. Petting my dog frequently.
WFH is the best5 -
Nothing like staying late at work to finish other people's work that they can't get done in time because they were doing side projects. Nevermind that I have two huge deadlines myself. Getting really tired of cleaning up other people's messes.4
-
People know that things are getting serious when you open up a new twitter account for your personal project.4
-
Psst, hey .
When you copy that shitty line 8 times, you will end up with nasty bugs later cause the shit will look the same and you won't understand they're getting values from the same variable.
Don't. -
Little brother: "Since you're an SE I have a really important question that requires your skills.
Me: Okay what's up? (getting excited for potential project)
Little brother: Can you hack my ex girlfriends Facebook?
Me: *face palm* -
You give up romancing for some time because you're tired of getting mixed signals all the time. Decide to focus on programming instead and then shit like this happens:3
-
So, I was getting started with express middlewares and installed Postman. I saw this. I literally cracked up laughing so hard at this.7
-
Finally getting a raise. 90% salary increase, feels good.
Feels like I can finally start saving for a home and stuff. Too scared of STDs to blow it in hookers so nothing left but investment and savings.
Also messed up and posted as a question.2 -
What is up with people asking for help and then immediately getting pissy like the first fuckin thing you say?
Shut the fuck up and let me help you, damn.9 -
I've already read two stories of software engineers working on the field to end up becoming farmers years later. Almost as if there's a connection of disconnecting from the tech world after getting close to it.11
-
"Getting me up to speed" apparently consists in a 20 minute-long demo on a project I've never heard of with a technology I don't know.
Then I'm supposed to deliver the v2 of that piece of work in a timely manner 😰6 -
Started to clean up my projects and delete all my deprecated things and starting to shift focus to one - three projects at max...
Buying my first car (2005 VW golf 2L diesel)
Got a new job interview that they seem eager to meet me about...
Getting money under my belt and closer to buying a house....
Everythings coming up Alex :-D

So I always start learning JS frameworks and end up getting confused by their syntax among other things. Do you guys know of any good websites to learn vanilla JS? My problem is that I probably don't know enough of vanilla and end up getting flustered.11
-
Regarding my last rant:
I have all my 3 Raspberrys set up for seti@home now, reporting to twitter and my own "surveillance" system for them.
The system is still ugly, the code is ugly but that's getting improved next!4 -
Getting super fed up of that one guy in the office who refuses to conform to the code style everyone else is using on the project.4
-
It was so frustrating setting this one up. Lots of shouting in front of my monitors. But I think now I'm slowly getting somewhere with my first i3 setup.
Now to see if it will actually improve my workflow somehow.8 -
Fucking incompetence
Senior level developer with 15 years of software development experience ...
ends up writing brute force search on a sorted data - when questioned he's like yeah well dataset is not that large so performance degradation will be marginal
He literally evades any particularly toil heavy task like fixing the unit test cases , or managing the builder node versions to latest ( python 2 to 3 ) because it's beneath him and would rather work on something flashy like microservice microfrontend etc. -- which he cannot implement anyway
Or will pick up something very straightforward like adding a if condition to a particular method just to stay relevant
And the management doesn't really care who does what so he ends up getting away with this
The junior guys end up taking up the butt load of crappy tasks which are beneath the senior guy
And sometimes those tasks are not really junioresque - so we end up missing deadlines and getting questioned as to why we are are not able to deliver.
Fuck this shit ... My cortisol shoots up whenever I think of him4 -
Getting up at 6:00 probably starts to please me. It's been three hours and I've done most of the things today.
Do you prefer to get up early or sit at night?9 -
Worst thing about being a Dev:
Getting forced by a non dev for a timescale without even being allowed to look at the issue. Then being held to that made up deadline!!1 -
I can't focus during the day, I don't have enough energy to do chores in the evening, I can't sleep during the night, and I can't wake up on time in the morning.
It seems like a curse that keeps getting worse.17 -
Don't you just hate it when you're getting fat because you're a developer who is lazy to go to the gym then start developing some messed up health problems and always feel shitty. Smh11
-
15 lbs down today. Getting back to fighting weight.
I'm at that part of the diet where I'm just starting to see real results in my body, but also have a massive urge to give up.
Just need a little kick in the bum to keep going.9 -
I kept getting the same AttributeError like 15 times in a row and picked up my graduation rubber ducky and screamed "I DONT FUCKING KNOW"1
-
Favourite API.
That's a hard one.
I guess it's a toss up between Salesforce APis and Cloudflare.
Both are straight forward and work within minutes of getting started, and both are well documented to the point, you only need a basic understanding of what you are doing or trying to manipulate to get it up and running.
If only AWS could do the same 😅1 -
Wrote a bot that would send a request to my phone where tasker would set the alarm, it was planned that my bot would automatically detect things like me turning off my pc and then setting a 9 or 10 hour wake up time incl. falling asleep and getting ready for bed, ended up using it to not open the clock app on my phone to set alarms6
-
The worst moment in my life is getting up in the morning. I feel like a fucking undead zombie every single day over again.
I want to fucking sleep and work later.5 -
I was looking at some poorly written code today in a project and I was curious to see who wrote it. I blamed it and found I had wrote it 6 months ago! smh Well... at least I know I'm getting better! I ended up refactoring it to use better code patterns.2
-
Opening the bag...
Stuck my nose in it. Deeeeeeep breath.
Better than sex.
Taking the scale, getting the right amount.
Feeding the grinder, thinking about whom to kill... Watching get them torn to pieces, shredded bit by bit.
Preheating the iron, getting the water up to temperature.
Filling up the espresso can, turning it on.
Boiling fresh espresso.
Nothing's sexier than the sound of the steam and the smell of fresh grinded and brewed espresso.
Good Sunday.9 -
Happiness is getting free T-shirt from a start up from different country for just signing up their product...
My best wishes to the company..
And thanks for sending it..5 -
*right click on image*
[nothing happens]
*spams right click, thinking about getting a new mouse*
[small modal shows up: "this content is protected!"]
*laughs in developer's console*
I never thought I'd get to see a website that "protects" its content by disabling right click, I'm moved :')3 -
Me: *joins devRant once again*
"Wow this community is surely active! Better check frequently to keep up!"
*checks two times in 6 hours*
"Yea it was weekend. Probs everyone is getting their hands in a dirty pile of compileable code or a spaghetti of jQuery."
So, how is your day/night so far?25 -
I moved about a month ago, the new place has crap curtains (yay for renting 😔) so I was waking up at 5-6am as the sun comes up 😞.
I bought blinds a couple of weeks ago, they've just arrived and all screwed on. I was waking up and getting bored so I started going out running before work. My last job I was the absolute last one in the building every day, yet also the closest. Now, with the running I'm getting in at about the same time but one of the first in my new job.
My new blinds are remote controlled/programmable. It's a bit sad but totally worth it, I'll be able to sleep in, have sunlight waking me up and still get to work at a sensible time, kinda just gives me more time in the day! 😁1 -
Analyzing code from stack overflow until i get it, before i use it.
that way you can pick up lots of useful features about a language or deepen your understanding for a topic, especially when you're just getting started.3 -
I have a power nap after lunch. No matter what. Waking up from a nap is like getting a new extra day for free. And this time whatever was bad before the nap just doesn't seem so bad anymore.7
-
What are you all planning on getting on Black Friday/Cyber Monday? I've pinched pennies all year and saved up just enough to only be able to afford 35% or so of the cost of being beaten in a local dark alley. That's not even what I wanted, but still.16
-
I decided to start learning go yesterday.
I had a Fun little automation task at hand and got to work...
The next time I checked the clock it was monday 02:40 AM
Getting up at 06:10 was hard...2 -
Getting beaten up over the quality of an app i'm working on with 6 interns. We have a bunch of unit tests, was shocked to see so many issues ... until I looked at the tests.
A function returning a non-optional array has 1 check ... that the return value is not nil ... fml3 -
When you take pre workout and are getting ready to workout but you have a few min before you have to leave so you look at your current project and end up rewriting most of the program and never making it to the gym... Thanks pre workout...4
-
Woke up super late (evening), was planning to work on my personal project, but didn't have a table where I can comfortably code and sketch out my ideas.
Hence, dressed up immediately and went to a furniture shop.
Getting table, chair and a bed (which I was planning for a long time) tomorrow.
Gonna just sit and code whole day tomorrow...2 -
Call me crazy but honestly, getting a segmentation fault in C/C++ makes my day joyful
Java or Python guys will never understand the feel you get when you end up getting segmentation fault in C/C++
Sitting in midst of nature with beer in hand and segmentation fault on screen.
WOW :) THAT'S WHAT WE CALL LIFE :)
PS: Although sometimes it's frustrating as hell5 -
Interviewed for a backend position a few days ago, but ended up getting a full-stack job!
Pretty excited to start this new gig, coworkers seem to be nice and the stack is great too.10 -
Always getting prewrote replys. When you call them, they say they found someone better.
If you ask in which area the other guy excel's you, they hang up...
I was 1 year jobless and endured this shitty replys. Now I got a job, which a lot of people would like to have 😄2 -
new Post<question> {
Getting another Raspi 3 B soon! What should I do with it besides setting up a not-much-used webserver?
};8 -
Getting nugets and dependencies of a big project to restore properly (most of the time the dev fcks his solution up - it works for 'him')
-
The times when you just can't fall asleep and have to do something just to pass the time and end up getting up in the afternoon next day are the worst.3
-
I have finally decided to stop helping people setup a proper machine learning environment inside of their machines with Proper GPU support.
I-fucking-give-up.
Goggle Colab, EVERYONE is getting dey ass sent to Colab. I DON'T GIVE A FUCK about privacy and shit like that at this fucking moment, getting TIRED af of getting messages about someone somehow fucking up their CUDA installation, and/or their entire machine (had one dude trying to run native GPU support through WSL 2, their machine did not have the windows update version 2004 and he has on an older build, upon update he fucked everything up EVEN THOUGH I TOLD HIM NOT TO DO IT YET)
.......fuck it, I am sending everyone to Colab. YES I UNDERSTAND THAT PRIVACY IS A THING and Goggle bad and all that jazz......but if you believe in Roko's Basilisk then I AM DOING THEM A FAVOR
I work hard to get our robot overlords into function, let it be known here, I support our robot overlords and will do as much as possible to bring them to life and have me own 2b big tiddy with a nice ass android.
I should also mention that I've had a few drinks on me already and keep getting these messages.5 -
Went to firefox test pilot and they really got some cool ideas there (e.g. snoozetabs: https://testpilot.firefox.com/exper...) only if firefox devs invested 1% of fucking around with "cool ideas" to maybe getting the dev and responsive tools up-to-date..1
-
Can anyone tell me How DEVS study for exams ?
Seriously Getting fucked up having xams back to back 25 days .13 -
I keep spreading myself too thin. I pick up too many projects and find myself not working as much as I want on my main projects. I've been getting better about realizing this, and I caught myself after less than a month. But shit. I need to stop it.
-
This fucking guy create a mess of a code, more than a spaghetti code, a clusterfuck of shit untested spaghetti code, and the project is actually getting well, our customer is getting bigger but everytime there is something to be added, its a fucking pain to add, and when something breaks, almost every thin breaks, and the shitty guy who wrote this code is quitting and its fucking up to me to clean up all the fucking mess, fucking asshole.
DOCUMENT AND TEST YOUR CODE KID, DONT BE A FUCKING SPAGHETTI PROGRAMMER7 -
Had two issues with my new Manjaro installation.
-Fixed DM getting stuck on boot by disabling DM
-Fixed touchpad issue by installing drivers
No fuss. Not much googling. Didn't fuck anything up. No Grub rescue. All my files are still where I left them. WiFi still works. This is a historic day.3 -
!dev
The last week or so, my boyfriend and I have been sleeping almost nonstop. It's beginning to concern me - we're always tired. We'll sleep 8 hours, wake up for maybe 4 or 5, and then sleep another 8 hours.
Is this the weather? Quarantine? Are we getting old? We're getting absolutely nothing done and it's awful. Wtf.
I actually have a history of chronic (diagnosed) insomnia which I grew out of in my late teens thankfully. Sleeping *all the time* is much, much worse.18 -
Originally, somebody had the phone number 8.
Unfortunately, he kept getting calls from interns who would simply give him weather updates.
"It's sunny out" *hangs up*
"Quite bright outside today!" *hangs up*
"Very warm today, with blue skies!" *hangs up*
Eventually the man was forced to change his number, but it was his fault, really. He should have known that when it gets bright out your pupils dial 8.3 -

To any CEOs that berade there employees for only getting something 99% correct even though the team is less than 3 weeks old, FUCK YOU. That shit is not motivating and you just fucked up any motivation your employees had for being excited to build your product.3

Turns out getting users to put in literally any effort to do something ends up in them putting in zero effort and just not bothering. Users suck.2
-
The largest ISP in my country, a government backed service, hijacks URLs randomly and injects pop up into web browser!
Imagine if getting hijacked during an online transaction... Glad it never happened yet.
But Fuck them for doing this.7 -
The problem I have with finally getting the hang of vim is that I end up expecting every place I enter text to behave the same way..3
-
what to do with this android studio, taking up 2.3 gigs of RAM😪😪😪
good thing i upgraded my ram from 4 gigs to 8 gigs before getting into android development 😪6 -
My colleague was once writing a test which deletes a file. And due to some fuck-up all the files in the C drive started getting deleted. By the time we found out half the files went missing and most programs stopped working. Had to secretly patch everything back up with me to ensure that he finishes his work and IT or management doesn't find out.
-
There should be a developer licence so we could stop these stupid wannabes from getting into and ruining the industry with their shit work. We're so fed up maintaining these stupid codes the company previously outsourced somewhere on earth.9
-
This will be my last project ever with WordPress. Seems like they added a site "customizer" (wysiwyg) which looks fancy and all, but after a few minutes configuring options the customizer starts lagging, fan starts getting louder, CPU & RAM go up so I do some profiling on that page:
Full layout repaints on every mousemove event, mem usage starts at 125MB and goes up up up to even 200MB while staying idle.. wtf? How did this even get shipped?2 -
Having the coder anxiety, can't finish code in one sitting, getting anxious, not eating because cannot eat while in the middle of something "important". Trying to finish it anyway, getting more tired, staying up too late, losing concentration on the next day and doing it all over again...2
-
I’m getting fed up of working from home. I now get changed in the morning and wax my hair to feel like I’m going to work, even if I have no team meetings!2
-
Not just as a dev.. but as a person who does anything - getting over the mental block which keeps stopping you from taking up actual projects or completing them without abandoning them... the struggle is real... and I'm still struggling😅1
-
So I got new internet two days ago but I never had time to run a speed test. Ran one this morning and found that I'm getting 113/15mbs when I'm paying for 60/5. Thanks spectrum for using the "median speed is" language instead of "up to" language.3
-
I don't get why people set their alarms every 5 minutes, instead of every minute with 5 minute snooze... It's waking up or lying around and getting angry at your phone that way14
-
Graduated high school today. It fucking took long enough. My teachers sure as hell don't want me back, they were getting tired of my shit. Not showing up to class, sleeping when I did show up because I don't sleep much. But I made it.2
-
I am never watching Black Mirror again, getting the viewer to empathise and feel sorry for someone then at the last second going "oh aye he's a pedo" is fucked up man, fucked up5
-
Bad dev habit…
I am still learning like super fresh —
Second week of class.
But I am also looking at things and getting overwhelmed because I’m like idk wth that is.
But when I end up learning it —
I’m like ohhhh!!
I just overthink everything !!!8 -
Really need to find a small project to work on, every other small project I start turn's itself up to 11 in scope and ends up getting shelved -.-
Why can't i just keep things small!
Plus any other project that stays small ends up requiring something complicated that I've never done, why do I do this to myself...4 -
20 minutes for a 1GB update.
It's getting tiresome and an inconvenience to switch on an Xbox for a quick game.
I have installed entire Operating Systems quicker.than these updates take to complete.
Consoles used to be convenient to fire up and play, that was a lot of the appeal.
And are controllers getting heavier?38 -
Don't you love it when you're in a full-on creative mood but the whole universe is somehow working against you doing anything productive?
Woke up in the morning with bright ideas for my app. But my PC restarted and my IDE crashed. After getting the IDE up, the project no longer builds. After spending hours to try and fix it, reinstall IDE and ............... voila............... everything works. I mean WTF?1 -
another big applaus for windows 10 update getting stuck and fucking up my whole GRUB!
I'm not even able to boot from live cd or select OS by UEFI anymore.. -
Anyone have a go-to way of getting your motivation up? I've kind of hit a snag where I want to code but never really get down to doing it.9
-
Time spent getting to grips with your OS is usually time spent well. While you're not operations, it really helps being able to solve general problems yourself without calling support.
Oh, and: Set up a good bashrc, and put it on the servers you're working with.4 -
In a heavily crowded metro sitting on a ladies senior citizens seat with my 16" laptop almost getting out of hand or pushed by nearby ppl until some oldie got tired of my shit and asked me to stand up.
Imagine the most messed up system of connections on a laptop because i am a droid guy whose laptop had 3 wires coming out of ports (laptop charging cable, usb and earphones)1 -
Does anyone else have really bad focus issues? when I'm supposed to be studying I'll be able to focus for about 10 minutes maximum before I end up on my phone or Getting distracted on YouTube6

Google is so desperate in getting into video conferencing ....
I had Duo disabled on my phone since day one, today I woke up to see it was renabled and updated to latest version ...

Life is a continuance...
Of falling and breaking apart...
Of Breaking your heart and losing it...
Of gathering yourself back again...
Of getting up on your feet again...
As long as you gather yourself...
and keep getting up again...
You’re a winner...3 -
A dev's worst nightmare can be summed up as this:
"Working on updates
5% Progress
Don't turn off your computer"
So much for getting some work done tonight.....5 -
my company's internet is so unstable today i havent been able to look up something on stackoverflow. how will i do my job without getting solution from stackoverflow?2

Just been cleaning out an old cupboard and found the book that really helped me to understand OOP ... Python for absolute beginners .. Before I picked it up, I was having a hard time getting my head around it all. Good times, good book :)

I have been sitting in front of my laptop for 4 hrs without getting up with full concentration and now all I can see is black boxes wherever I look.
-
Tried to install Ubuntu on a Virtualbox. Wasted so much time and effort just to get it running.
Got so fed up, ended up getting a hosted one at Digital Ocean.8 -
So I was recently getting fed up of having to open so many command prompt to do individual things
Only now till I have found out about a program called "Hyper" which is essentially CMD with a tabs and a fresh GUI look
Also supports Linux 😄

getting paid for training session over a piece of software, preparing material for workshops, stressing out about crazy questions.
training day : one person shows up, not one single word, evaluation signed, go home with check.
I LOVE MY JOB. -
I never thought big about Whitespaces until Hacktoberfest came by.
Fed up with the amount of PR and notifications I am getting on my repo . Most of the time they create a PR to create a Whitespace and then delete it . Now I have put up a Repository to at least add some joke instead of those Whitespaces11 -
TEST, TEST AND TEST ASSHOLE
OUR PROJECT IS GETTING BIGGER AND START TEST YOUR FUCKING CODE SO I DONT HAVE TO CLEAN UP THE WHOLE FUCKING MESS
FUCKERS2 -
I have 15k in unpaid invoices. 5k of which is over a year old. Everyone has contracts. Considering getting a job and just giving up the biz.6
-
Went through a lot of GitHub repositories and other people's codes to try to understand how the "magic" happens. Slowly started getting a hang of it. Good thing being, I picked up good coding practices along the way

EVERY COMPANY IS STRAIGHT UP REJECTING OR GHOSTING AFTER GIVING A TAKE-HOME ASSIGNMENT.
I am just tired of this at this point. I have been unemployed for over two months now. I have been constantly applying to every opportunity that I see within my limits. I've also reduced my salary expectations by significant margins.
I'd have understood if I was getting rejected after the initial screening / technical interview. But I am not even getting there.19 -
Working on a project needing to integrate java, jquery, SQL, various aspects of Android unix manipulation i.e. rotation, gps, music players, etc..needs to successfully build and after getting finally getting all needed repository files, work in android studio then be converted into an apk, compressed sent to instuctor's device for seemless use...this group project included 6 individuals teamed up like avengers to complete...my team mates either dropped the class or with drew.fml with a hammer sideways.2
-
I'm not sure why but I'm always super caught up on the aesthetic of my coding. Like the code editor has to have the right colors and format and I hate getting so stuck on inconsequential aspects of work.2
-
Being a newbie is getting harder and harder. The later you start in a field, the more has already covered in that field, meaning you have to run as much more to catch up.6

i was looking for a Junior Android Developer job before this coronavirus pop out of nowhere. now i'm just stuck in the house and the chances of getting a Remote job as a Junior developer is very very thin 😐😐😐. And honestly i'm fed up of learning new skills5

Soo insyde BIOS got a big bug via 17.10 ubuntu iso
- Settings not getting saved in bios
- USB booting is a no-go.
- suspend never wakes up without battery removal
Infected systems mostly include acer, LENoVO and hp mainly
I am surprised it took them this long to notice the bug.8 -
"Standup" meetings are based on the assumption that standing up gets uncomfortable after a while. In our team however, the meetings are not getting any briefer, we are just getting fitter. Perhaps we should introduce some more uncomfortable position, such as jump-up-and-down daily scrums, or yoga daily scrums.5
-
Just found an old project where I tried getting a version of ubports to boot up as an AVD... Fuck me I really wish I could remember how I was going to do this...
Still can't find a supported device cheap enough :'-( -
So... the "boss" was getting really annoying asking for nonsense with a shitty attitude and for some stupid reason i said "I'm Mr. Meeseeks. Look at me!". The reference didn't click, but the insult was there.
That's a way to fuck things up. -
Never “try” to optimise just a bit more just for your own sake if the customer doesn’t ask you too. The next day you may be working on getting the service up and stable again on your holiday day :-(2

Getting a lot of headaches? Try replacing coffee/energy drinks with ice cold H2O first thing in the morning. It works after a week and it shocks your body into waking up faster.2

Staying up a bit later to try to get something to work that you have been stuck on for a while and actually getting it to work is a good feeling even if the solution was a bit hacky.1 -
When you almost cry before you sleep coz you hate your job and feel when you wake up your gonna lose another day of your life but your not getting any good offers...

Mr Fucking Robot. What an episode. Mind fucked up in the end. This season starts so average and now it's just getting dope. Brilliant writing.8

People are up doing tequila sunrise and getting smashed in the early mornings. And I'm over here happy to be working on some code.4

Envy me. The fnew position I am getting spun up on has me assigned to take over the work of a guy who uses no versioning methodology and updates directly to production code. and I have to get it into CM!!!2

So just got news via comments about retarded devs leaving twilio creds. in their apps published to the app stores, attached below is an interesting snap of the document appthority has published, wonder who is getting beat up right now for leaking corporate meetings 😶4

I feel like with all this Facebook stuff we are gonna end up eventually getting The Social Network 2: The Zuckening1

Getting a new laptop is exhausting if you haven't been keeping up with the technology. I have purchased three laptops in the last two weeks returning the first two after spending 10 + hours each installing updates and software just to find out they didn't work for what I needed.1

1. Finish my damn game engine.
2. Get my own company up and running with actual staff and funds.
3. Finish the game a friend and I are working on using said engine.
4. Getting out of this fucking job since I’ll have my own company to deal with.1 -
So for those of you that remember my fax machine post I have an update!
We where still getting people calling up and making the fax machine ring but Amazon delivered a new fax machine today and it seems to all be working now, no more ringing fax machine!!! -
Getting up at 3 in the morning to be at the office for a 4 am go-live "in case something goes wrong"1

Ugh. Sending data to a 3rd Party API and for a small subsection of these requests getting error response "A system error occurred". PM: "Who's fault is it? Ours or them?" ... Agh come on, fault is something you can make up, they can make up and entirely irrelevant and unhelpful to anybody. Client: "Why is broken, ideally it would never fail" ... everyone is in goo goo gaa gaa land

What the fuck?!!!
I like Manjaro for it's stability. But I'm getting sick of dumbass shit like this.
Everytime I try to eject a drive. These errors pop up. Doesn't matter what is on the device.
I can't figure out what the problem is2 -
do you guys think multitasking is a high standard? at work we deem it essential, but i wonder if it's too much to expect new people to pick up on our pace. if we're not coding in a meeting while answering texts and emails, we're not getting anything done13
-
There is a moment in a project where you either tell everybody that they have fucked up everything and a new beginning is necessary... Or you will be the one who's getting fucked in the end as 'the constant warnings and delays were communicated, but not offensive enough to be of major importance.'

Poll: do you think everyone, especially managers, should read The Phoenix Project?
My personal opinion: yes... They need to understand the horrors from unplanned work and how to prevent it... I'm getting really tired of checking up after people...1 -
I keep getting contacted on Facebook Messenger by "null", and receiving "message" from my friends. How can a social network suck so much? And how can a company spend so much money on declarative programmers without the rest of their teams picking up on such basic techniques as making invalid state unrepresentable?4

I guess that you could say that things are getting pretty serious...
I just woke up and found out that I was using my laptop as a pillow. S22 -
Music videos and random things that come to mind and I feel like I have to check and then end up getting really far from what I was looking for in the first place.1

Some days getting better at programming just feels like learning more sophisticated ways of writing up spaghetti

6 months exactly into my development career. Finally starting to understand the product and feel like I’m finally getting the hang of stuff. Then a DB task comes up and I feel like I’m back at square one.1

Finally friday! Only a few hours left in it school and I can start programming again and catch up with all the sleep i'm missing by not getting up till 5pm...1

I finally get Agile!: Go Live, whatever happens - happens, fix and repeat. See…I kept getting hung up on delivering something that that actually worked.2

My biggest regret is getting into a project and not finishing it. I Almost feel like I should force myself to finish up these project before I start new one.

Today I decided to take up the task (a growing pain) my team had been putting off for some reason for a while, and safe to say seeing it getting cleared has been satisfying1

Finally I've got time to set up my old buddy ☺️.. slowly slowly this night getting more productive 😂🤣

Set up my mom's network the other day. Unifi Lite AP with an EdgeRouter X. Decent setup. Now she's constantly getting disconnected :/ Nice...2

Getting settled on a new team. They are using this custom built Dependency manager/Build tool. I’ve now wasted 2 weeks trying to get it up and I haven’t started my actual issue item yet.... sigh I wish I was on the team that uses Gradle.1

It's 5 to 10am and I'm still in my bed. Daily is at 1015. So fucking difficult to get up lately since there's less sunlight. A couple of weeks ago I was getting up at 7 or 8 by myself. Life gets shitier when autumn begins. 😪5

How is it that an error fixes itself and a new error pops up where there should be no error?
Just when I thought I was getting the hang of it..

What to do as junior, if multiple seniors (4) aren't in sync with each other. Following different convention on same client's project. Even after 3 years they didn't able come up with seemless infrastrure. The code is getting ugly day by day. No review happens. Is that normal? As they are not in sync, we, juniors are frequently getting confused what to do. What could be done? I'm planning to leave the project somehow. Don't know what to do. 😑6

That feeling when your new laptop is arriving today but you're not getting home until late to set up the software you need...

I can't count how many times I've hated other people for writing MY blog posts.
If you come up with something you think is clever, write a short post about it, and don't hate yourself for not getting feedback. -
"Hi X, I'm getting some push back on a bigger hard drive seeing as you'll be on the only person in the company who has something bigger than 250GB. Are you able to give me the headline values of how you've used up 249GB so far please?"7

I don't understand written essay exams. That's it.
The thing is how does mugging up a group of questions and getting a good score help the person. Like for real...
Whatever.. Exams about software engineering today and I am on devRant for 2 hours. Great4 -
Why am I, a level-headed, shy individual, a straight-up fucking psychopathic murderer in my dreams???

Soo uhh.. I'm not getting notifications from devrant until I open the app up myself.. Now I wonder if this is a bug or if my phone is just sucking at its job again3

1) Quitting the job that I felt led on from the get go and didn't realize I signed up to be a full time contractor instead of a full time employee.
2) Getting my degree in Network Administration.1 -
A little more than a year ago I attended to this coding bootcamp where the leading instructor made us open up Vim and told a joke about "those guys who can't quit Vim". It still hurts, but it's getting better every time I get the chance to do the same with others.1

Well this is a comforting alternative to the stress and anxiety I feel just before i start to spiral perilously out of control...
I'm not burning out I'm just getting my flame on while I level up. 🔥🔥🔥🤣 -
One thing I learned over my few work years is:
1.Never do anything for free.
2.Be irreplaceable however you can.
3.Most managers ain't shit so don't play nice and end up getting stomped.7 -

I tell him "Fine, upload it to the GitLab repo I created a week ago and you never used it." on Friday.
Today, the day *before the presentation*: "Here, have the GitHub repo, ask for permission and you're all set up.".

language confusion is a mess. as a python newbie i am very focused on learning for the last two weeks. now i am not even able to declare my php-variables properly and end up getting errors the whole evening.1

The problem with getting more experienced is it is really hard to decide what to learn next.
It is like looking at netflix screen for an hour to pick up a movie and going to bed without watching it because you got tired.1 -
dang. Messed up at work. Small action, big impact
Oddly enough. I thought I've outgrown this but still am being pretty stressed about it.
Weirdly, I think getting fired might put me more at ease than anything else.
Any theories?11 -
Windows is stupid
My desktop is in my room, and consistently every night at around 11 to 12 it wakes up from sleep, consequently waking me up. I did some troubleshooting and apparently it's doing "automatic maintenance"? I couldn't find a way to turn it off.
If any other devs have had this problem, please help, I'm getting sick of this.15 -
Did you know that 94% of the start-up businesses struggle on the very verge, during their first year of operation? Why, because they didn’t know how to finance a start-up business. Know how to finance a startup business and what are the means of getting small business loans for your startup.

I let my monkey brain come up with a reasonable estimate after evaluating what is required. Then i just add in some random amount of time (If my estimate is around 3 days i just randomly say it'll take me 3 days, 3 hours, 21 minutes and 50 seconds). It usually cracks up people during meetings and ends up getting me more time because they like to round it up xD3

installing kendo ui in an application we've worked hard on slimming down. package count for getting datagrids up and running you ask? 12; direct dependencies, mind you. FML

Game development:
So I finally got a story. An actual fucking story! Anyways no development on the actual project. My computer just crashed recently so I'll be looking into issue if it can actually start up showing the screen and keyboard to get working again.
Oh and Im getting wifi tmr.4 -
Depends on the project:
If it’s just me on the project 1.5x actual estimate which is based on whether or not I can figure it out from looking at the code.
If others are on it 3.5x to include things like getting others up to speed, discussions, design talks etc. -
Getting burn out right now. Filling in for departments with overpaid inadequate talent and poor management, it's driving me up the wall.

Best choice: Getting into the technical stuffs... And blowing up my mind almost everyday with a never seen before problem.
Worst choice: Getting stuck into an IT 😐 -
Best: Getting fired from a shitty company that regularly lied to middle-management after standing up for my team.
Worst: Losing a team of fantastic direct-reports that went to bat for each other, helped each other out, and help me be a better engineer.
(Spoiler alert: same job) -
Hyping myself up for the project to the point of not getting bored, working until my brain gives up, repeating.
Also music -
Don't suppose anyone has experience with a pinebook pro?
Finally giving up hope on my chromebook and working on my game engine using the Linux VM built in is just getting slower and slower...
Trying to get some opinions before I put down $360 to get one imported .-.11 -
Been getting emails all fucking week like this, even had 4 seperate phone numbers call me up from a private or unknown number, guys, fuck off, please.
Think I need to have a chat to my domain host as to why people are getting my fucking phone number and personal email!6 -
Last year we had a meeting to discuss lessening the frequency of meetings and let people work more of the day. After a three hours, it was decided that nothing was getting solved, resulting in three more meetings to be added to the calendar to follow up.

finishing existing projects, resurrecting abandoned projects with dev friends from uni (where we had actual customers calling us and saying they wanna pay us, but we are idiots and couldn't come up with effective pricing)

also getting better in linux server management -
Getting the word out about your new shiny app:

Google Ads isn't even using up half of my daily budget lmao1 -
What a productive day! Managed to speed up some code by getting rid of some classic ASP AND sticking it in a dotNET library instead! Ran some benchmarks and it seems to work pretty fast now 😎1

AND SPOILER ALERT: I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO BUILD ROCKETS, SO YOU BETTER START RUNNING4 -
I’m a Frontend developer and my wife is Quality assurance Lead. We never tend to agree on things even personal. But with time I stepped up and developed negotiation skills. Now things are getting better 🙂1

I was planning going to a bar drink some beer while listening to some live blues tonight, but gave up. Getting really tired after work lately, I'm here typing this in my bed and wondering what is wrong with my body.3

- Get comfortable with Angular 10, at least to the point where it's not too far skill-wise from Vue 3.
- Getting better at using Terraform, AWS and GitLab, and possibly picking up another cloud provider (like DigitalOcean, Linode or Vultr).
- Being used to the C4 model and being less uncertain about how I can model software systems even if I end up switching from (C4-)PlantUML to Structurizr.
- Progressing on some OSS projects, namely like All Contributors and other side projects I've put on hold.
- Getting a new laptop (when I know which one would suit me more). -
Been working in a company that forces me to double up as their IT guy, getting dangerously close to socking the next guy who says they don't see their network drives. DANGEROUSLY CLOSE!!!! PUSH ME MF, PUSHHHH MEEEEEEEE!!!!1

I just started maintaining a few AUR packages, and I got to say it's rather fun and rewarding, just to know that your responsible for making sure that something is up to date, and that no one using the package is getting anything bad.2

It's pain in the ass, when you finally managed to free enough memory to keep your android os up-to-date and just a few minutes after update restart getting a message that there is an os update, which needs another 200mb.
It's a never-ending torture..4 -
I know it's all for good reason, but man are there so many hoops to jump through to get a web server set up through HTTPS. registering the domain, getting the SSL certs, configuring the DNS, setting up the firewall rules.. what a pain6

What I hate most about studying computing? Getting exams about shit I hate - fucking stats exam tomorrow, wasted my time coding and now I'm afraid Ill fuck up big time1

When C output questions to an Interview seem like an infinite loop,
But end up simply getting solved on the nth iteration.
And you feel like, if this was in python, this load of crap won't be torturing you! -
I feel many people suffer from this same problem.
Meanwhile why the fuck would this not work in a javascript class or am I getting my languages mixed up ?
Will know soon enough.6 -
*guy* Starts to think of getting into ethical hacking. Downloads Kali and installs fuckload of apps. Doesn't want to get caught so spends first hour on setting up a VPN. Ends up leaving "white stains" on the laptop.

Got up with a pretty bad hangover. The worst thing that could happen was GitHub getting acquired by Microsoft. Is this for real?2

Tried to install MS-DOS 6.22. Was not fun at all. Tried 3 iso flashers in total. The closest that happened to DOS was unetbootin getting bootlooped on the 10 second countdown to automatic system start. I gave up on it eventually.

Microsoft needs to deal with getting native compilation of the full .net runtime rather than concentrating efforts just doing store apps that no one wants with the cut down runtime.

Yeah, it hasn't happened yet, but I have a feeling I'm getting closer -
I've been doing stuff on my free time after school for about 3 years now. Getting used to using ubuntu on virtual box. Responsiveness is slow as fuck and I have 128gb of RAM. Spent all last week configuring my box and sublime text in order to have to set up a new one due to repo issues. Any advice?5

Getting cold-feeted and didn't join a coding group in high school. I ended up stopping coding for a good 3 years, which could have been spent for so much learning... :/

Best:
Got to work on an interesting and kind of meaningful project from ground up and opportunity to work remotely without any cons (except for getting a brand new macbook pro).
Worst:
Using AWS.6 -
Woke up at 6am today to do a little bit of work (code review and demo deployment) before I had to catch the train to go to Antwerp only to find out I misplaced the appointment on 24 instead of today.. 😒 slow clap for me, well done dude
On a brighter note, I am now actually on the train to go to TEDx Leuven, anyone else? 😀 -

as my first rant here I thought i'd start with one of my favorite relevant quotes:
"If only it weren't for the people, the goddamned people, always getting tangled up in the machinery. If it weren't for them, earth would be an engineer's paradise."
-Kurt Vonnegut, "Player Piano"1 -
Recently, my hardy MacBook Pro 2012 gave up the ghost. So I'm in the market for getting a new laptop. Which one(s) would you guys recommend given the following use cases I have planned? Listed in order of importance:
- Getting used to Linux. Eventually I plan on replacing my desktop PC's Windows install with Linux and would like to try some flavors on the laptop.
- Software development w/ Java (Spring), Android, Rust, Go, Node
- Music making
- General web browsing, heavy YouTube use
- A little bit of story writing6 -
Any tips on getting contracts? I know this can be “googled” but maybe someone else out there has some interesting tips that don’t show up at the top of the search results. Im a full stack engineer in the US, mostly React, Node, MySQL2

Great way to start a developer's day: Turn getting to the office a sudden problem with unexpected platform and services changes.
And only realizing after getting on the train. I had to pull up a mental map of the stations and connections. And guess the probability the right train was in service at the station... -
New & exciting languages as well as frameworks both already exist & are getting rolled out all the time, and I can never keep up. Everything is genuinely magnificent.

You ever get pissed at programming but also be having fun experimenting with getting something to work
I was up till 7 am angry at all the errors and issues but I couldn't bring myself to sleep until 7 when it worked a few consecutive times
Today I get to write tests -
When people write me at 5am on Slack or Skype, they think, how nice and organized my life is that I am getting up early. Truth is, I have not slept yet. Programmers never sleep they just check their eyelids from inside. It's easier to stay awake till 6am, than to wake up at 6am!2

I always have a tough time waking up and getting going I. The morning - today my first thought was “I have to run the go function.”
What is wrong with me. Also, why don’t humans have a go function. -
I haven't touched Java in 5 years. Buddy asked me to help out with an Android app. Any recommendations on getting caught up as a place to start?2

What's it called when you count down to 0 for your versioning instead of up. Once you get to 0 your software updates freezes. I tried searching online but I keep getting counting for "for loops." This is eating at me lol.
