Windows: Copying 2,513 items from <here> to <here>.
Me: OK.
Windows: 84% complete.
Me: OK.
Windows: Shit.
Me: What?!
Windows: "Copying" dialog box is not responding.
Me: Fuck you.
Windows: Well, yeah, sorry.
Me: Fuck you.
Windows: Do something else until it unfreezes.
Me: OK.

Me: Fuck you. Everything's stuck. Can't click anywhere.
Windows: You can still use your mouse, though.
Me: Yeah, I guess. Wait a second, it's also stuck. The whole thing is frozen as ice.
Windows: What about keyboard?
Me: I said, THE WHOLE FUCKING THING!
Windows: Well, sorry?
Me: FUCK YOU!!20 -
I wrote an answer, in my exam, about the precedence of operators.
Took a random example: "3+4*6", and explained that "*" has higher precedence, so "4*6" would be executed first and so on.
Long story short, this was the last line in my answer:
"The answer is 27, not 42."20 -
I was talking in class. Teacher saw me. She asked me to explain the topic she was going to explain. It was Network Security. I started explaining how we can prevent tracking of our online activities by using VPN and all.
Teacher (to class): Do you all know about VPN?
Whole Class: No.
Teacher (to me): They don't know about VPN. Now, how will you explain?
Me: I won't.

I wrote a piece of code. A logic. My senior changed it. And.. I am glad she did.
My descriptive variables and her conditional breakup of logic made up for a very beautiful piece of code. Simple and elegant. So much so that it makes total sense without any need of a comment.
Never thought I would be loving a 5-lines code piece this much.
This is one of those days when collaboration happens for the betterment.
Simply. Beautiful.4 -
That's it. I am going to learn HTML. Like really, really learn it.
And after that, I am going to learn CSS. Like fully, totally learn it.
Nah .. I am fine.8 -
My director likes to cut-off people mid-sentences. It’s every fucking time and it’s so fucking annoying. Like just fucking listen to me! That’s your fucking job!!2
-
*team convo*
Dev: We will create another branch for the changes and merge them when required.
Director: Can we not do the changes in the current branch and comment them out until required? I think that’s cleaner and not confusing in my opinion.
Beautiful mf!6 -

A company gave a placement talk in college today.
First, they talked about their company's facts and figures, which no one was interested in.
Second, they talked about Amazon and Jeff's vision, AirBnB and their revolutionary idea, more than their own company and products.
Third, they showed some testimonial videos of their employees and customers.
"What the fuck is going on?" I thought. We were there to get information about a placement test.
Buzzwords started coming in. Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and what not.
Last 15 minutes, a guy came. He talked about test date, test format and test topics, finally.
An hour and half wasted for 15 minutes of information.
Fuck placement talks.35 -
WHAT THE FUCK? IS THIS REAL?
I got a call from a managment institute asking me if I have any MBA plans after graduation.
I said no and asked the person where did he get my number.
He said: Google
Like how? How does this even work? HOW?23 -
I see a trend here.
Posts of people with good number of ++’s get more ++’s than the posts of people with less number of ++’s. Even if the post of person with good number of ++’ is just a normal conversation starter and post of person with less number of ++’s is an actual good fucking rant.
It’s not a bad thing, per se. I hope nobody gets offended. All in good spirit.
To people with good number of ++’s:
Let’s not hold back and ++ the good content of people with less number of ++’s.
To people with less number of ++’s:
Don’t hold back your thoughts. Be free. Write free. Don’t try to make your rant to look a certain way to get more ++’s. We are all here to support.
Let’s grow together and spread positivity.
Peace.18 -
New HOE came. He “streamlined” the processes and “standardised” the policies. And in turn.. fucked up the whole startup feel of my company.
I saw it happening right in front of my eyes in a matter of only few months.
Earlier, things were flexible, work was fun, people were even ready to put in more hours because we were all having fun. Now, work feels like work, fun is gone, frustration has become normal, and the most frustrating part is that.. WFH is now a “privilege”.
Fuck this shit man! That fucker exhausted the whole company in just a few months. Given enough time, he will be the end of this company.7 -
1. I am reading a rant.
2. I get a mega urge to check my ++'s.
3. I don't want to go to Menu > Profile.
4. I comment on the rant.
5. I check my ++'s.
6. I delete the comment.5 -
It took me 18 hours to implement the design and 3 hours for the actual logic..
Damn you frontend 😪6 -
Unfortunately it's same old same old.
Deadline approaching, changes keep coming in.
Deadline gets extended due to influx of change requests. Director says "ah the deadline is put back, that means we can add in even more functionality"
Anyone got a cyanide pill handy?4 -

Director: What’s the next step on <thing>?
Manager: There is no next step because *manager explains*.
Director: How can not there be a next step?
Manager: *explains the same thing again, reading from a mail chain Director is also a part of*
Director: Okay, so net-net there is no next step.
Beautiful conclusion mf.1 -
So.. we humans are never going to have total peace, are we? Yep, thought so. It’s about time I start accepting this fact.34

Windows: Would you like me to give all your data to MS or somewhat less data?
Me: Well .. I guess .. I'll choose the Basic option..
Windows: Here is a fun fact .. I'll send all the data regardless of your choice :)
This is what's happening in the background, I think. I mean there isn't even a phuqing option to turn this thing off.19 -
I am the sole frontend developer in my project. I have only 6 months of professional coding experience. Just got a call from a person who used to lead me (she is still my lead, technically, but not very much involved in the dev process (management’s decision, not hers)).
She said that a concern has been raised that there have been large number of frontend issues which they (she didn’t specify, I am guessing management) haven’t seen before.
What do you think is the “large number”? Let me tell you. It’s 4.
2 of which are minor CSS issues that couldn’t have been anticipated while coding. They are runtime issues.
One of the 4 is a both frontend and backend issue.
And the last one is a fucking change request!
1 player, many responsibilities, slight issues, RAISE CONCERN - That’s management for you.
Fuck them, I guess.
On top of that, a concern I raised in front of the management regarding the management is not so much of a priority for them. I have a feeling that the concern they raised is just them being a jerk because I raised a concern in the first place.
Fuck them, again!
And again!5 -
The time I learned loops and I was fascinated by the fact that I could do 100 operations in a few lines. I was hooked.7

Now that I am coding for money, the motivation to learn and build new things is gone. It has become all about money for me now. I get tired after coding all day and I can’t open my personal laptop to learn new things and do some more.. well.. coding.
Will I ever get that motivation back? Because I have some good ideas in my mind. Just can’t seem to start working on those ideas.8 -
Wrinkles appear on their forehead(s) when I spend too much time on computer. Their voices become loud but then I say - "This is going to earn me my bread."

Ah! The sense of achievement you get, the feeling of accomplishment you feel, the beautiful red light that glows up on board, when you repair your home's broken wiring.
I fucking ❤ hardware. Best WYSIWYG of all.7 -
"new features" - new spywares?
"You decide" - Yeah right.

I came to this company. I saw spaghetti code. I told myself to write clean code and also clean the existing code. I took too much pressure for too little return. I am done with this shit. I will now write clean code but fuck the old spaghetti code!2

I am loving this week’s topic.
So many people see their alternate profession as simply following passion and becoming an artist.
The art of teaching, or making food, or producing music, or making things, and so on..
We are so different in our artistic capabilities yet so similar in our professions.
Divided by lakhs of factors, united by love for ranting.
Let the passions not die out!
Cheers! 🥂5 -
What the fucking fuck you bastard of an OS? Your fucking filthy "Copying" dialog box!
One of these days, I am gonna fuck you up in the ass so hard, you are gonna see Gates flying!
I am copying a file from CD in to my PC. At 97%, this shit hole of an OS says through it's fucking urine hole of a "Copying" dialog box: "An unexpected error is keeping you from copying this file. Try Again/Skip/Cancel"
Seriously?! It's 2018, and an unexpected error is keeping me from copying the file?! Where the fuck is your QA?
I, being an unreasonably optimistic human with this Billy fucker, click "Try Again".
What happens? You know very well what happens. This shit of an OS starts copying the file again! From 0%!
This is the second time, this bloody, filthy, fucking "Copying" dialog box has given me problems.
I am telling you, it's days are numbered in my PC. The countdown starts now.
.
.
.
It happened again! At fucking 97%! I just want to scream now.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!7 -
What the real fuck?! My phone's storage is decreasing automatically. I am not doing a fucking thing! And it's still going on. Only 145 MB of free storage is left. My phone is hanging a lot and apps are crashing. I can't do a fucking thing on my phone!
I checked storage in settings. Everything looks fine. But the Misc. This fucking thing is holding 9.85 GB, and when I open it, it shows only 1.9 GB. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!
AAAAAAAAAA!!
Anybody?33 -

I never used to lie. Unless it was absolutely necessary which was very rare.
But now, I can lie so easily.
It all started with those fake sick emails after entering coroorate. And now I have become a lying bastard.
I don’t like myself when I lie but the necessities have become frequent in corporate.
Fuck corporate man!
Fuck it with porcupine quills!9 -
I might ditch Firefox for Chrome just for the fact that sometimes it doesn't open a pdf doc rather it just starts downloading it again and again and again until I sign out.19

Sublime Text - absolute favourite! Tried many editors but nothing is faster than Sublime on a 4 gigs machine .. and also the packages.

Today, I looked at my company’s job description of my own profile.
Shit is full of buzzwords.
Wonder if that’s the case everywhere. Gives me some confidence to just apply to jobs without worrying about ticking all the points in the descriptions.
(For those wondering whether I did not see the description while applying for my current job.. actually, I saw it but didn’t take it too seriously because I just wanted to get a dev job.)3 -
I like coding. I am a professional coder. But I feel I am not very good at it. My colleagues are so creative and fast with their solutions. And here I am, always in awe and never seem to feel like becoming an expert in coding. The thoughts are tiring 😪6

We have “adopted” Agile as our development process. Now I will be honest that I don’t know everything about Agile because I am very new to developing things in a professional setting. But the person who has been the advocate of Agile always starts his sentences with: “Whatever I have read about Agile..”
You can understand why I don’t get a good feeling/confidence regarding this adoption strategy. Things haven’t changed, just the presence of words like “DevOps”, “Agile”, etc has increased in the morning meetings.10 -
The fuck? You can scroll to the top by touching the status bar?!
Why the fuck is this not common knowledge?22 -
Mac’s window management is so fucking shit compared to Windows.
Imagine how shit something would be if it’s shitter than Windows’ shit.9 -
What? How! WHAT’S HAPPENING?!

What is this sorcery, you devil electrineer!12 -
I was suggested as a kid to “avoid using too much “uh”s and “umm”s while speaking, especially if giving a speech. It sounds bad.” And I agree.
But now, I see, that people generally don’t fucking care about how they speak. Almost every video on the internet (especially the teaching videos) is full of bloody “uh”s and “umm”s.
It’s okay once or twice, if someone genuinely forgets about something. But why the fuck is it becoming part of people’s way of speaking?
Ruins the whole experience of a video. Even if the video’s contents are actually good.
Pause if you want to, but stop the fucking moaning!7 -
One thing that’s a shocker and frankly very weird for people who have always used Android, is that iPhone doesn’t show any progress notif for anything whatsoever. Like dude.. I want things to happen in background and see progress in notif bar. But no, not in iPhone. You either wait for things to finish in foreground or do it explicitly inside the relevant app.
For example, when you want to send a big video on WhatsApp via Photos, you have to wait on the Photos screen until it’s sent otherwise it fucking fails. Like dude.. wtf?! Why can’t that happen in background?
On top of this, things that can happen in background have so limited processing power to themselves (because iPhone doesn’t like things happening in background; we have already established that though) that they just crawl until done and sometimes fail.
Another thing is that there are no fucking loading indicators. You touch something and then the guessing games starts whether you touched it correctly or not. Like dude.. I know your phone got a superfast processor but sometimes things take time to happen. You gotta give some kind of indication that things are happening ffs!
I know security and all, but dude you gotta give me something! Don’t make me suffer for little things.
Dude.. fuck you!6 -
I wish every online course provided notes; atleast cheat sheets. It’s just not intuitive to take notes during a recorded video lecture.1
-
iPhone > Settings > [bluetooth-speaker] > Device Type > “Speaker”
Why?
Because “Specifying the type of device can ensure your Headphone Audio Level measurements are accurate.”
Alright, fair enough.
But, BUT!
Headphone Safety doesn’t fucking care for the chosen device type. It still reduces the sound if turned ON.
It’s good that I can have accurate measurements but what the fuck is this bullshit?!
To iPhone,
If you can accurately measure the audio by respecting the device types, why the fuck can Headphone Safety not respect the same types? Why the fuck does it have to treat every bluetooth device as a headphone?
Is this actual bullshit or am I missing something?2 -
My director sends an email every morning asking team members to close their tasks at EOD.
Every. Fucking. Morning.
Like dude, we got it the thousand times you said earlier! Just stop doing that now!9 -
Can you feel nostalgic for the things you have done only in dreams?
I did today.
Fuck my loneliness.3 -
https://devrant.com/rants/4356269/...
As it turns out, many people in my team has the same fucking habit! Nobody wants to listen; everybody wants to blabber first!
How the fuck are we going to communicate like this? Especially while working from home?!
And how the fuck can you blame me for an issue when you don’t even let me complete a fucking sentence?! How the fuck am I supposed to get my point across?!!
Oh man.. today’s been bad.2 -
My director has started a new thing. We all have to tell what we did the previous day, what we are planning to do in the current day and if there are any blockers.
Good thing, right?
The only thing is that all these things are already plotted on the sprint board. It’s right fucking there in front of our eyes.
So what do we do? Just reiterate what is already written there. Fuck my productive life.6 -
Slack’s “Huddle” is beautiful. A game changer. It is just so easy to enter and exit a call now.
Good work, Slack!11 -
What the fuck is even this?!
The empty fucking box in the middle!
I am not even angry now. Just frustrated. I have encountered so many visual bugs in iOS now. This is my first iPhone. Tim Apple doesn’t want retain me.
iOS: A beautiful looking OS that shits at times.8 -
If taking notes is an art, then I am definitely not an artist.
It gets more difficult when trying to take notes while watching a video.
How the fuck to go about it? I have yet to strike a balance between “listening to learn” and “listening to take notes”.
Both are very different things and can’t be done at the same time. What happens then is that I end up watching a video twice, or end up without any notes.7 -
https://devrant.com/rants/4408042/...
Another one. Next phone is definitely an Android. Fuck this shit.10 -
I had been banging my head on an issue for 2 days. The solution?
Replaced
“window.addEventListener(“message”, callback)”
with
“window.onmessage = callback”
What. The. Actual. Fuck??!!
Aren’t they supposed to be the same thing?? It’s written on MDN’s article that the latter is an alternative way of doing the former.
What the fuck then? I am actually really pissed right now. Ragefully pissed.11 -
Why is OOP hated, here?
How is functional programming much better than OOP? (as stated by so many peole here)18 -
Something stopped working.. on a fucking running train!
I have so many questions but I will refrain 😩4 -
Suppose devRanters were to start their own software company, what things would make that company better than others?
I mean, what things would each one of you would want to happen in that company for it to become better and even the best?12 -
For the love of sex, can someone help me out??!!
There is a VS Code extension that helps in creating a step-by-step tutorial of a codebase. Can someone please tell me its name?!
Google is a bitch today.6 -
If all the 24 years of my life have taught me anything, it’s that I am not at all good at time management.
That’s why I am always stressed. And I hate that I just can’t seem to make it better. Short motivational bursts are good, but I need a permanent solution!3 -
I am surprised how little time does my brain take to go from
“As a dev, what am I doing for the betterment of the world?”
to
“But, what’s the meaning of life, though?”3 -
I was developing an Android app during college training. I made the app in three days, actually, three nights.
Three consecutive nights of only coding had its toll on me. I got burned out.
I couldn't even look at my laptop. Every code I looked made me want to throw up. That's how much burned out I was.
Well, after three more days, the feelings of throwing up receded, and I was back on track.
This was my second worst burned out experience. -
I get it. Hooks prevent code repetition. But personally I hate them. I don’t know why. I just don’t like writing them. Maybe it’s because I like writing “this”. Weird, right?3
-
And so.. I have noticed.. every time I ignore Windows updates for a little while.. the laptop just starts shitting. It gets so fucking slow that you can’t even move the cursor properly. So you have to force shut down the laptop and turn it ON.. and Windows starts updating!
Not at all irritating 😊3 -
My office Mac has ruined the development experience for my personal Windows.
Mac is just so freaking good.6 -
Apple’s ecosystem is restricting, Windows 11 is shit and I don’t like Linux much.
Doomed, aren’t I?15 -
Sooo many fucking visual and functional glitches in iOS!
Just had my Files app stuck on a file preview. Couldn’t scroll, close or share the file. Closed the app, restarted the app, opened it again with no luck.
Had to offload and reinstate the app to get it working.
Apple is making sure that I go back to Android for my next phone.
To think that such an expensive phone has so many UI/UX glitches is infuriating! I like the overall aesthetics of iOS but these glitches/bugs/whatever-the-fucks are just plain frustrating.2 -
Why can’t Headphone Safety in iPhone just fucking respect the Type of my Bluetooth Device?!
Why the fuck does it HAVE to reduce the sound of my Bluetooth speaker even though the Device Type is set as fucking speaker!!
Do whatever the fuck with “accurate measurements” of audio levels but just don’t fucking treat my headphones and speaker as same when I explicitly set them differently!
For Andromeda’s sake!10 -
https://devrant.com/rants/5155862/...
Alright! I take it back. I don’t like “this”. Hooks are better. But are they the best? We will see.
Namaste.3 -
It’s time for me to be on the other side of the table. Any suggestions on how to be a great interviewer?12

One of the things I like about Web Development is its WYSIWYG-ness.
Another thing that I love-hate about it is how 80% (more or less) of the time you don’t see anything happening on screen and then suddenly it all comes together. (This goes mainly for Frontend stuff.)
Aah! The joys and sorrows of Web Development.12 -
I used to love JS until I learned it properly. Shit is a fucking hodge-podge of concepts. Still not as mature as I thought it was. And each new iteration is just fixing the mistakes of its past. Fucking language is a mistake in itself!8

I can’t work with 100s of tabs open. It’s not productive at all.

Recruiter: What are your expectations?
Me: I am flexible with the number. You must have allocated a budget for the role. We can discuss that number.
Recruiter: I have all the budget. Give me your number.
Me: 12.
Recruiter: That’s around 100% hike.
DIDN’T YOU JUST FUCKING SAID YOU HAVE ALL THE BUDGET?!3 -
Scrum master sends a team wide mail and Apple Mail thinks it’s from a mailing list. Ummm.. wut? How come? What’s the algorithm to deduce whether a mail is from a mailing list or not?1
-
Why the fuck does “Delete” also send a response to the sender when we already have 3 responses: Accept, Maybe and Decline!
Fuck Calendar logic! -
LinkedIn sends me notif about an InMail. I open it via the notif. I close the app. The notif count badge is still on the app icon. I open the app again. Go back to the message. Close the app. Now the badge is gone.
Good going LinkedIn 👌2 -
How the fuck does Facebook know about the points of interest in videos, so as to play an ad just before that point?3
-
So I was doing random changes to get the output. Got partially correct output. Got happy. But I don't know which change is responsible. Dafuq moment!

Class components, although verbose at times, are still far superior than functional components in React. The more I work with React, the more I believe that: Hooks are plain shit.

I used to think that nothing could load faster than the "Thing With 'S' Logo" on a 4 gigs machine. But then Nadella's army updated their "Thing With Blue Logo" to the "Thing With Orange Logo". Plus the extra features, integrated source control, extensions and more.14

Just realised that I haven’t properly laughed in a long long while.
Don’t even remember the last time I laughed.
Don’t remember the number of times I have laughed since starting my corporate life.7 -
I took 9 days off. Two 3-days long-weekends included.
First long-weekend went in Holi celeberations.
Weekdays went in planning and executing trip to Vaishno Devi.
Second long-weekend went in resting because Vaishno Devi is a hiking pilgrimage of a total of 30+ kms and 650+ kms away from my house. Totally loved the trip, though. Always a pleasure.
After 9 days of leaves, I come back feeling somewhat mentally fresh and rested.
The very next day, I catch cold and fever. Whole body fucked up. Skull paining from sneezing and blowing nose too much. Body paining from weakness and little fever.
Now.. I don’t want to work at all. Even little work gives me stress. Even though I have time to complete it.
I mean 😪
What an unnecessary hell after 9 days of heaven.2 -
Why the fuck do SD cards always land on the floor dark-side up?! It's so fucking frustrating to find them!!7

~ I knew a little bit of Django ~
~ Now I know a little bit more ~
~ I used to like Python ~
~ Not so anymore ~
~ Why though ~
~ I don’t know ~
I use JS professionally and I have majorly coded in JS in personal projects but I always had this liking towards Python. Now, that feeling is gone. Python doesn’t seem that attractive. JS seems better.
One of the reasons, I feel, is the syntax. JS can fuck-up in places but that C-style syntax is love.
Another reason could be that I still don’t know that much Python or Django to make an opinion? Maybe. Probably.9 -
Every textual communication’s tone sounds rude to me. I don’t know why. It is what it is.
I always feel like the other person is being sarcastic or rude. When, infact, they actually are not.
Just.. *tired emoji*4 -
Shutting down Windows instead of putting it into sleep should not save state. It did, in my case.
I had Chrome opened before shutting down. It's still there.
This is very nice fail-safe method, I must say.11 -
Privacy vs Freedom
What will you choose and why?
(I know, I know, it depends on situation/context. Still choose one.)15 -
There is something off with the M1 MacBook. I can’t pinpoint but there is definitely something different about the experience. Not necessarily in a positive way. The interaction feels lacking of certain things. Don’t know. It is what it is.
What I can point out is that the notification functionality is definitely a little off. Could be Monterey’s fault.7 -
Most of the people on LinkedIn identify themselves by their profile in their company. WTF?!
And these are the same people that try to motivate?!
There is nothing wrong in flaunting your “dream job” but almost all the people of LinkedIn do it.
What a shallow place. No wonder I get depressed whenever I am there.
Fucking fugazis!6 -
We have come a loooong way in tech. Thanks tech ancestors!
I do have one name on the top of my head.. thanks Mr. Turing! -
Not a big fan of iPhone’s touch points. They don’t feel intuitive at all to me. Maybe it’s my 8 years of Android experience talking.1

I was logged into a portal with my colleague’s ID. She asked me if I was logged in with her ID.
So, I asked her if she was unable to login:
Me: Are you able to login?
She: Are you able to login?
Like, what was the point of her reply?!
Me, again: Are you able to login?
She: No

Someone posted here something about Macbook’s touch being too cold and being the reason of their cold.
Just came here to say: I second that opinion. It does get too cold at times. Sends a chilly wave through the body on first touch.
#ModernProblems3 -
I have realised this the hard way. Never ever ever delete something if it’s backed up in cloud and is not taking space in your device, just to free some space.
Obviously some bullshit is better deleted. But never overdo it. You never know when you are going to want the thing you have deleted.
I have 2 regrets. Both related to deleting things without backup. But in my defence, I forgot that they were not backed up. Brain freeze.3 -
Black background in Settings, black taskbar, black cursors .. that's the extent of dark theme in Windows.1

Things like Mailtrack are against privacy, aren’t they? Especially because it’s not in the control of receivers at all. Or am I missing something?!4
