My girlfriend always takes pics of me coding saying it looks beautiful lol... I once told her that code is like a beautiful woman who is sick and you're the doctor and can't figure out what's wrong and occasionally ask your rubber duck for help...24

So I heard floor memes are cool these days. Here's mine with a bit of twist. Comic Sans, because it's beautiful.5

The 1st of July, it'll be a year ago since my father passed away.
I made him a promise as he explicitly told me; "Please grow our company, I wouldn't have put you in the CTO position if you sucked at what you do" - so I said I would keep pushing the boundaries.
As per now we've officially broken our set target. Our revenue thus far in 6 months of time has reached to last years total revenue. I take great comfort in knowing that he would have been god dang proud.
July the 1st will be a day with both a smile and a tear. Had to get this off my chest!8 -

I wrote a piece of code. A logic. My senior changed it. And.. I am glad she did.
My descriptive variables and her conditional breakup of logic made up for a very beautiful piece of code. Simple and elegant. So much so that it makes total sense without any need of a comment.
Never thought I would be loving a 5-lines code piece this much.
This is one of those days when collaboration happens for the betterment.
Simply. Beautiful.4 -

Do you ever find yourself proudly staring at your beautiful code, forgetting everything else and suddenly noticing you've been at it for far too long?3 -
Python seems so ... simple, yet beautiful.
(It's just ... a feeling, I only did the codecademy course and doodled on the command line by now.)
But this whitespace/tab thing and the fact that missing semicolons don't result in errors is just fucking confusing.15 -

I came across this beautiful quote in an anime.13 -
Italian schools are by far the worst in the world.
I'm in a IT oriented school, where we should learn to code.
We spent the first year writing in Word and "programming" in Excel.
In the second year we started learning Visual Basic, a total waste of time.
In the third year we finally got rid of most of the useless subjects we had and started learning C++.
Sadly we had a teacher who wasn't able to properly speak and teach to students who never really programmed.
We didn't even know what a class was at the end of the year.
In the fourth year, the current one, we didn't have a teacher for the first 3 months.
Now we are learning Java, but just the basics.
Oh, we're also "learning" HTML (not 5) and JavaScript.
Next year, the last one, we will do PHP and SQL.
Maybe also C#, the most pointless programming language in the world.
What a beautiful country.22 -
Wanna have some fun at work.

Ah.. the beauty of clean code.
I wrote a very cleanly written program two years ago. Proper variable names, not too many, right naming, right design pattern,.. Now I come back to it and I am able to instantly figure out the code again. It only took me half a minute.
The importance of clean code... that's something the industry needs to understand more. Well, then there's the money issue. lol5 -
This app is taking over my life.
This was a mistake.

Boss: we need to make beautiful changes, and make the development process more simple and beautiful.
Employee 1: let's arrange error messages to be more readable.
Boss: no, I don't need any details of error, just say there is an error.
Employee: But..
Boss: This is genius, do it now.

Describe one devRant member in the comments (not yourself)!
@trogus is designer that made devRant the beautiful place it is now. It is often overshadowed by @dfox, but without him, especially the beautiful avatars, this place wouldn't be half as popular as it is.49 -
Just cut 2 seconds off the load time after roughly 2 months of refactoring. The code looks beautiful though.1

After two years of learning front end librairies and some javascript my mate just threw me into our java backoffice to help him do the testing.
I read so much shit about java, i was a bit apprehensive... But man the more i learn the more i think code is beautiful.

Recently started using js without semicolons...
Personal opinion but I think semicolons do make the code look ugly14 -
Do you ever learn a particular technology, have something playing in the background and then associate the tech with that for-fucking-ever?
To me, when I was learning about Ruby on Rails I was watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood for like the 5th time (I am a big FMA fan) and have thought of Rails to be associated with it forever. heck, even with just doing scripts in Ruby without rails I have always felt like I was doing alchemy or some shit.
Yeh I know, spot the weeb.
I don't give a shit I just love Ruby.7 -

I hope I'm not alone getting the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you write some code that is beautiful. I know beautiful is a strange choice of words but I find the efficient simplicity of good code to be beautiful!

:( why can't i have nice things, like linux elementary os?

Started working on a per project in Rust (first time using Rust) .. a scripting language.
Rust is great, so fast, compiles in 0.5-1.2seconds on my $200 laptop as well! Pretty rare for safety, speed, AND compile speed to exist in one beautiful language.
Also my scripting language is the opposite of beautiful. Oh God.3 -
Heya @Fast-Nop

Life can be so beautiful14 -
If something is functional and you don’t think it’s beautiful, you should rethink your definition of beauty.

Nothing excites me more than a beautiful, simple and logical piece of code...
Sometimes I even feel like a creep with that obsession.
Am I the only one here?1 -
Fuck it. Two big releases plus all the minor shit raining down on our team with only three active devs. A new team member who's unfortunately more of a burden and nuisance while the whole ship burns so beautifully....
And stupid me? I fucking break my arm, is in a cast now for four weeks. So I can mostly watch, while everything sinks.4 -
Nitrux OS
I feel that this piece of wonder isn't getting the recognition it deserves.
One of the most beautiful UIs out there, revolutionary tech like znx(booting from the main iso ALWAYS and keeping user data across reboots, in a nutshell) and it has weird ass virtualization stuff that allowed them to run windows with very little virtualization overhead(tech details yet to announce).
Imma stop here before getting labelled another fanboy, just check it out and see for yourself
Thanks for reading, i use arch btw8 -
I had perfect code until the exception handling was on my Todo list... Fuck my beautiful architecture I guess6

I'm using Elementary OS for few days now, and I can only say that I love it, it's really good looking compared to other Linux I tried before (Debian KDE, Ubuntu Unity, OpenSUSE XFCE) but there's not enough programmers functionality natively integrated3

in brazilian portuguese you don’t say friday you say “hoje é dia de maldade” and i think that’s beautiful4

Talking with my dad about a program he's been working on at his company. He doesn't work on it directly, he works with parts on the side to show to clients. He's basically a sales rep that shows some cool features.
Me: is this that the program where it converts scanned items into readable text?
Him: yes but it does a little bit more than that.
*promptly goes into detail about how it works*
Basically merges documents together based on some criteria that it needs to meet. There are 5 cases and all of it is coded in sql, the 5 cases aren't coded based upon logic but based on each possible outcome of a scenario. And it would brute force it's way to a solution. The way he explained it made me think it was just mountains of spaghetti code.
I couldn't help but think something like this
00000
00001
00002
00003
It just sounded messy. And I haven't even looked at it.
Me: 😬 why would you design it that way?
Him: because it works.
Me: but the code has to be so unmaintainable
Him: well I don't have to look at it full time.
Me:... (flawless logic... But why¿¡¿¡¿😢) -
Returning from a crazy interview, found these on my doorstep. And life is beautiful again.

Designer: The web design muset be beautiful, clean and follow modern trends.
Me: Actualy no, design should be just functional part of website. There is no need to be beautiful, clean and has nothing to do with modern graphic trends. Sad truth is almost nobody, besides css galleries, cares.

What is a good application for reading PDF's on phone? I want a PDF viewer that makes it possible to change font-size. The text in my PDF's are really text - not an image. I can select the contents with Samsung Notes for example. If a reader is a able to select it, there must be a reader that changes the font-size right?
I'm reading "Beautiful code" at the moment. It's a great book13 -

Maybe a usefull function for the fellow developers here, in case you need default Avatars for your users. "UI-Avatars". Just 'discovered' this beautiful API today and it really is easy and helpful! :D It even has a PHP package if you would like to generate them yourself.. This is not an ad or anything, it's just a usefull API, like 'placehold.it' etc that could be useful for anyone out there! -

This place I’m consulting at just had a new Directory of Change, first policy she made for IT is mandatory 3 working days wait for any release in Test and 2 weeks for Prod. That includes application config value update in Test database. We think she might have misunderstood her job title Ms. Director of No Change..2

Some times I look at inline code documentation and am like:
"That's so beautiful..., but I'm not going to cry". -
Urgh... No exceptions in Rust annoys me. Now you only have the choice between "this didn't work please handle this error, thank you ^-^" and "you fool, prepare for annihilation". So basically if anything remotely serious happens your programs dead and there's nothing you can do about it. I don't get why people have this hate for exceptions. Everytime a new language gets made it's always either "ew it has exceptions" or "it's so nice it doesn't even have exceptions". NOOO! They can deal with serious situations in the best possible way and they can be statically checked (so no "but they're so complex and unpredicable" stuff please). If you can expect an exception they shouldn't be used in the first place (eventhough they are absolutely no less good than Option returntypes or whatever, just different) but in cases when it's impossible to predict an error they really shine. And not having them makes your language worse. If a device driver accesses illegal memory it should throw an exception, so instead of the computer shitting the bed, first the offending function has a chance to resolve the problem at it's root, then a few functions up the call stack, the general control functions of the device drivers can handle it and restart the operation if applicable, and even if the driver fails to handle it, the OS can jump in and restart the driver, log an error and do whatever. It's absolutely beautiful: This hierarchical ramp from near the accident site to more high level operations code ensures the error can be caught at the right level of abstraction without introduction a lot of boilerplate. If everything fails and nobody can handle it *then* the program or kernel or whatever can panic.4

So I just started learning Swift, and I think it's modern, beautiful and a bit weird. Like the Portuguese of programming languages.
I think it should be used more.3 -
Just finished one of my final projects and while it was a huge mess, and I don't feel particularly proud of the work as a whole, I do feel proud of how I can feel I learned something and I'm a bit eager to put the acquired knowledge onto another project. I think the constant learning we have to do is one of the beauties of our discipline.

Why is CSS beautiful? It's like asking why is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony beautiful. If you don't see why, someone can't tell you. I know CSS is beautiful. If it isn't beautiful, nothing is.3

Of the most beautiful things you do to your website, CSS is one of them. Writing it - not one. Exhausts you.
