!rant: A friend posted the frontpage of a local newspaper in the Philippines. The summary is in 'lorem ipsum'! I checked it online(epaper) and it is still there! Someone's gonna be in big trouble...39

My non-dev boyfriend installed Python via the command line and ran a server to render a map of Pokémon in his neighborhood. I don't know whether to be impressed or scared 😂7

October - Hired
November - Hear that CEO 2 was stealing the company money
December - Dismissing 6 persons. CEO 1 says to me that, since I'm the last hired, I'll be the first dismissed.
March - Company doesn't get better. Dismissing 3 persons... still there.
May - Company doesn't get better. Dismissing 2 persons... still there.
July - Company doesn't get better. Dismissing 9 persons... still there.
Now, with the remaining money the company should live for about 2 years and not dismiss employees anymore.
We were 25 employees, where are 4 now. I feel like the winner of Survivor.10 -
At first there was nothing...
Then the software engineer said "LET THERE BE A PROJECT"
and there was a project. And it was [good]
On the secondth day, he said " LET THERE BE GIT", and there was a empty git repo
his colleagues hate him because thy still live in 2001 and they use SVN. But it was {good}
On the thirdth day, he said, "LET THERE BE AUTOMATION" and build systems came, And it was </good>
On the fourth day, he said "LET THERE BE A FRAMEWORK" and a framework was born. Problem is, it didn't work in his machine , so he whined and StackOverflow. It's still ["g", "o", 0, "d"]
on the fifth day, he said " LET THERE BE FRONTEND", and the frontend was born, but his colleagues again, ranted for using Angular instead of React. It's still "good";
And on the sixth day, he said "LET IT BE SOLD TO A CUSTOMER" and it was, but the bloke was a cheapskate wanker and paid him only the half of the contract price. But it was still good.
And on the seventh day, he rested, but he didn't actually, because Developers never rest nor sleep. And it was good3 -
Me: "Delete this folder"
Windows: "Oki, done."
Me: "How is it still there, F5. Still there! Hey, you forgot to delete this one file. Fix it."
Windows: "Nope."
Me: "Why?"
Windows: "Requires permissions."
Me: "Eh, it was my file, but here you are, my admin credentials."
Windows: "None shall pass."
Me: "Wtf, this is my computer. Who owns this file?"
Windows: "No one."
Me: "What do you mean? Oh, time for your reboot pills, ms. Wandows."
Windows: "Noooooo... ... ... Welcome."
Me: "Ha, the file is gone. Glorious victory."
Windows: "It's just a flash wound."

I don't get why people are still using WinRAR. I discovered 7-zip years ago and while it's very minimalistic, open source and ad-free (also without any annoying "buy me now" shit), there has never been an archive I couldn't open using it.10
-
This is for all the developers out there. Keep learning and keep going!
"No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying."1 -
Stackoverflow 101:
- spent 6 hours to Search if my problem is already asked and/or answered
- spent another 4 hours to Google the question and make sure there is no article about it,
- Still got banned.10 -
Dear those who did microsoft sharepoint front-end,
Fuck you
P.S. There is still 3 levels of iframe and table, but I can't show it because it contains data7 -
- so you're still a programmer?
- uhm yeah?
- ok listen I need to make a video where there are two pictures that moves in different directions bla bla bla bla ...2 -
Tested and checked in code. Left on vacation and came back.
The code I checked in still was there, still works, and didn't cause any fires while I was gone :)
Success!2 -
Boils my fucking blood.
How many billions of dollars is Microsoft worth again? And they still make me update my fucking updater?
Why is there even a separate program for updating??16 -
While watching season 2 of Star Trek Discovery, it was nice to learn SQL is alive and well in the 23rd century. Also, that there are still idiots that don't defend against injection on a warp-capable spaceship with transporter technology.3
-
I have always thought that I am to dumb to become a dev, but after a few years doing sysadmin shit I have realized that even the most stupid, dumb and idiotic people can be a wordpress developer!
There is still hope for me9 -
Client: "We don't want line breaks in that column make it 500px wide!"
Me: Makes the column 500px wide. Sees that the line breaks are still there. Asks if it should be made wider to fit the text.
Client: "Just implement what we send you"
Me: Ok (thinking wtf)
Client after testing: "Why are there still line breaks?!?"
🙄😥😤😭
Why the actual hell can't they get there freaking requirements in order?!? This shit happens with every fourth request!10 -
left a company over 3 years ago because they wanted me to dumb my code down so that the other devs could understand it. they wouldn't allow me to use classes in my code lol. anyway, 3+ years later figured I would try to log in to some of the admin panels... passwords still the same. MySQL dbs... passwords the same... cpanel... passwords the same. smh. even if I still worked there the passwords should be changed every so often. top notch security right there. funniest part is they don't even do backups or use VCS for the code. sad sad company. glad I'm no longer there. my personal projects have more security, redundancy and fail over lol4
-
When you get so excited you burst out signing "🎶MY CODE IS ON FIRE🎶"(Alicia keys "this girl is on fire" reference) forgetting your in a room with your fellow developers.....
5 minutes later there still laughing3 -
Assembly...
Do I really need to say more? Okay, it's low level so there is no abstraction. All you deal with is cold naked mathematical truth and physical limitations.
It's still ❤️8 -
When you patch the patch of the patch that patched the patch of the patch and you pray no one ever notices the original issue still burried in there.......somewhere......
-
Whoever created LinkedIn website, please fix the fake notifications. It's so annoying. even if there is no messages or request it's still shows the notification 😣4
-
Can we talk about this for a second? I mean WTF, how is Windows XP still a thing. Wasn't there a ransomeware attack recently, so every last sys admin should have some motivation to upgrade their shit?
Sure, I hear you say, it's just an information display. No critical stuff.
Well guess what, it was at an airport. Most likely not connected to any critical infrastructur, but still it's a computer, stuck at the boot screen at 11 a.m. running windows XP, connected to an airport network.
And I was standing there like: fuck me!13 -
The worst work culture I've experienced was at a local security company.
There was a reason why over 15 people come and go within 6 months (just 30 people work there):
The boss is a fucking psychopath and should be (mis)treated in a high-security mental health institution.
There has not been one sane day during the 90 days I had to work there.
A friend of mine still has to work there because he can't find anything else in his current situation...11 -
Who the fuck still puts stuff on sourceforge?? Every time I have to download something from there I feel like I'm downloading malware. So many ads and purposefully misleading links, serious developers should avoid it like the plague!4
-
I have been off of this platform since last 4-5 years, but going through old screenshots I found this rant by @uyouthe. I checked it on the Calculator on Windows 11. 5 FUCKING YEARS and this is still there.17
-
My university has a course "Higher Programming Languages for Engineers".
The language you actually learn there?
Fortran 90.
Technically they are right and Fortran continues to have quite an importance in the field of numeric simulations, but still. The name is pretty misleading.4 -
Web products that disable text selection. I hate them, there are 0 reasons to do that, and still it's done.16

Official Release of Wikipedia Bot is Here

Watching Google Analytics for my company's customer facing tools.
Almost half our traffic is made up of IE and Edge.
In that IE group, somewhere, there is a sad strange little user still on IE 8. Just one.
Poor guy.....5 -
Two weeks ago, our lead presents jenkins to our apprentice.
Apprentice : why some projects have a cloud icon and other a sun ?
Lead : because there were cloud outside when build finished.
Today we still laugh about it. -
Thanks Windows 10 for rebooting because I left my desk for 20 minutes. It's not that there were programs still running or anything like that.
-
I didn't redeem my stressball because I felt bad for dfox and trogus having to pay extra for shipping. Is there any way to redeem my stressball while still paying shipping? ❤ (I wanna order some other stuff too)8

Anyone work at a place where you think you could leave $20 on your desk, go on vacation, and it would still be there?16 -

Never ever open a computer while breathing...
I got a ticket to fix a computer from the production line that was turning itself off...
When I opened it, a dark dust from hell came right into my lungs... There were more dust in there than I've ever seen in my entire life... Combined...
I'm still sneezing 3 hours later, and a few black spots keep coming out with everything else...4 -
Look at the image first, please.
Me: "What's that?"
Closed devRantron.
"Hmm, still there."
Closed browser.
"Nope, that wasn't it neither."
Closed everything that is somehow connected to the internet: FTP client, SSH connections, even the VM.
"There's still something! What is it?!"
Bashed my head against the wall.
"I am listening to music right now... music from the NAS..."2 -
There are still old youtube comments from my younger self to be found on youtube. Delete every evidence!2

When the new keyboard you ordered arrives at work (it's for at home) and your team lead remarks 'that is a big dildo you got there'. I did fire back by asking him if he was jealous which led to sudden silence. Still disappointed in him, we do rib each other all the time but this feels sexist and inappropriate. I'm used to it and laugh it off but I'd still expected better of him.13

Pulled an all-nighter
Was too busy ans haven't had any time to eat anything next whole day.
35.5 hour sleep deprived, cameback home with takeouts
Let's pull the repo before i start eating.
Open the laptop and connect the charger while laying on bed.
*fell asleep and woke up 9 hours with laptop still running*
The worst part is that the problem i was trying to solve is still there.9 -
A teacher where I used to study, thinks that there's teo types of Java:
Java NetBeans, and Java Eclipse.
Sime othe people there think that Java works only on Eclipse.
Some graduate students still use the marquee HTML tag, and encourage each other to use it.3 -
"Why is the production database empty?"
Obviously, we had backups, but using the situation to make my employer shit his pants were funny. And yes, I'm still there5 -
- Why isn't this script working
- Review Error Log
"Incorrect Syntax: line 122"
- There is no line 122
**3 Hours Pass
- Damn had an old broken version of the script still running in the background 😐🔫 -
There are 2 kinds of programmers.
people who searches Google and CAN find the solution.
people who searches Google and still CANNOT find the solution.4 -
What idiot decided to translate the Excel-formulas?! It's impossible to follow an example you find online or to get help on a complex formula without translating it to English first! (Yes, I know there are online translators out there, but still!)2

When devRant crashes on my Windows Phone due to scrolling too many rants and still there were more left to scroll. I suppose a higher power is giving me a sign to head to sleep!16 -
So, I have this little USB Stick with a Kali Linux Partition on it which I use for school. (I boot up from the USB instead of the installed windows, so I have all my personal data everywhere I go)
But somehow I forgot the USB in class last week... 😭
Today I'll ask the teacher if he found anything. Wish me luck!5 -
I was testing database migration and there was some issues which I couldn't fix them. So I drop the table just to test if the issues are still there.
"Why nothing have been changed?" After some minutes I realize it was production database which I had dropped 😓1 -
The intense moment when there are thousands of people eager to use a new website you developed and there are still bugs and rough edges but the launch time is in 2hrs.
Needless to say I'm pretty nervous. -
Even as a developer, there is still a brief number when I look at an app's version, see something like 1.9, and think, "Ooh! Version 2 must be coming soon!"
I'm not particularly proud.1 -
Corporate jobs... where you spend most of the time doing stupid work because of idiots in the team.
There was a script to automate some manual task. However that script had a bug. The script was then updated.
Still there is some idiot out there in the wild who runs the old script now and then and causes issues.
We have written another script to counter the effect of that buggy script! 🤦♀️2 -
Ah, the old locked up non-gui thread. Bastard gets me every time. My monkey brain says "Button still work, so no infinite loop". Oh, but there DO be infinite loop.
-
Are there any developers here who still use jQuery rather than these new big ass JS frameworks. Recently I started with Angular 2 for an internship but I really miss jQuery.🤔10
-
When the devs "fix" the unit tests by modifying the test cases so they pass.... Bugs are still there, but our deployment succeeds now. Oh federation....1

I don't get why nowadays people still buy smartphones with battery capacity between 2500mAh and 3500mAh meanwhile there are cheap enough smartphones with fricking 5000mAh(or more)!
Typing from 3 day averagely lasting smartphone, with my use.16 -
How are there in 2019 still people thinking ip bans are a good/working way to ban people of of game servers/websites?6

I spent the entire freaking day on one spec — one! — and I still haven’t gotten it to pass. Or fail. It’s still just breaking. Even the simple crap is breaking, so getting the actual complicated things I need it to do working? Bloody pipe dream (whatever that means).
Just. Goddamn this system is complicated and poorly designed.
And no, before you ask, of course there is no documentation.
I want my day back. 😡4 -
Boss wants me to become lead developer on a huge project; I still consider myself Junior and feel like there is still more for me to learn before I can even accept something like this. The company is amazing and I would love to step into this role but I fear that I will only disappoint.
What would you do? If I should take it; could you recommend resources that would help me level up?8 -
I hate knowing that there are ton of ways doing something but cant just figure it out which is the best and then having to come back and change it. I know it is part of learning and becoming experienced but still...2

Got internship opportunity. It's just an internship, but still it feels exciting and surreal for me. It feels weird because there is not really anything exciting about salary.
I guess it's the "my first job opportunity" butterfly.2 -
Finding motivation to work on stuff i dont like, because its sometimes part of the package.
I'm still having problems with that, but its getting there!1 -
When you want to wake up early in the morning but you accidently open devrant before going to bed and there goes your 2 hours without noticing what time it is and still you can't get enough of it. #devrantaddiction3

PM's? Like private messages? No idea, still haven't figured it out. There's still idiots from technical chats sliding in, often with a question that belongs in the very same chat they came from. My Telegram name has now literally "(No PM!)" in it, and a bio that says in all caps "DON'T FUCKING PM ME", yet there are STILL people that don't get it. September never ended, did it?
... Oh. Project managers. -
Some many nice and new programming languages out there and even some older ones still get updated but at my university we are supposed to use the ANCIENT AND ANNOYING ANSI C (C89)??! Why...3

God save my soul.2 -
Guys, check your tags before posting on weekly rants. There are a few of you still posting under previous week's tag. The question and the answer don't match. 😛
Also, I think I just scared someone off because I mentioned the wrong tag. 😬9 -
I'm the only one who after saying "nah, come on, I will backup it tomorrow, what could happen?", spends the day after by reinstalling Windows (after an awesome crash) and praying that the project he was working on for months is still there?1

My new phone - the Motorola C Plus - has insane battery life.
Took it off charge Monday 07:30am with 100% battery.
It's now Thursday 11:00pm and it still has 10% battery.
You're looking at 90 hours Standby right there. Damm, Motorola.
I put it on Airplane mode when I sleep and have the screen brightness turned down, but still.
That's impressive.3 -
C/C++ debugging with VSCode sucks ass.
How do I even debug stuff in forks while still debug my threads?
And yeah please just kill my program away, it's not like there happens some necessary housekeeping at exit or SIGINT. FML.8 -
Why in the world are there still flash exploits occurring in 2018, these should have stopped occurring 10 years ago7

If Microsoft acquires GitHub, it will be far from the end of git. Even if it is an EEE play, there are still many FOSS variants that will enable the use of git without having to deal with Microsoft's toxic business model.
I still have my gitlab install, and I will continue to use it.4 -
"there is no WiFi in hell"
- me, thinking about my new flat(that has no internet yet)
Still wondering why this sentence came to mind...5 -
Wondering what the hell is Windows doing when there is no processes yet still lags on keyboard input.2

when you're sure something you've just changed should have fixed the issue, you run the code and the issue is still there, after half an hour debugging you realize you didn't "save" the file1

There are at least 3 posters in the bathrooms at the office saying please put the toilet seat down before you leave, yet people still can't do that4

if (somecondition)

It's unbelievable how many senior software engineers there are with 2-3 years experience within the industry... damn boy, you just became intermediate, if you're still not a junior8

“Don’t forget to go home”
A solution architect when he looked into my team room at 6:30 and saw me still sitting there working. -
So I've been really Ill the past few days, like litterly been in bed for two days, popping pills like there going out of fashion. I contact work and get the typical "get well soon" so I get a message today asking how I'm doing (still Ill), I said I'll be back Monday and ask if anything is urgent that needs to be done first thing. So I get a list:
Project A: Deadline Monday
Project B: final review Tuesday
Project C: Still waiting on feedback
So I ask any chance we can extend the deadlines by a day or so I have enough time to catch up even though I'm going to have to rush it as I've been off.
Answer.. nope there non negotiable.. oh
So they want basically three days work done in one day, given the fact I still might not be 100%. Jesus Christ 😂
Quick Edit, I wasn't told there were deadlines.8 -
First world problems - approaching 50k rep on Stackoverflow (well, currently on 46k.) Would quite like to get to 50k. But my days of enjoying procrastinating on there are long gone.
Sadly, so are most of the good questions it seems.
Anyone else still answer random questions on there for fun? Or has everyone else pretty much given up with it too?9 -
Once upon a time there lived an old man who was waiting for his AJAX response, some say he is still waiting to this day.

Only got 2h of sleep instead of my usual 5h. I'm a walking corpse and there are still 7h left until I can go home 😴
Stupid, calming water-flow sounds are going to bring me down4 -
I still don’t understand git completely ,sometimes the error messages are so hard to understand I just make a new repository and push all my new updates there using GitHub desktop.7
-
Had my first evaluation session today, where people use my software for an hour and see if they like it. Mixed feelings.
For one thing there are indeed bugs here and there, but a lot of the things that people say are missing are there! They just didn't see it.
In times look this I see I still need to do better painfully clear.5 -
Don't you fucking love it when there are no errors, and still, something doesn't work. It's so frustrating. I've been debugging this shit for like 2 days. UGH!2
-
Just lost hours of work because the winforms designer decided to send half my elements to (11, -8000) and resize others to (0,0). No matter what I did, there was no moving them back. And every change I made was reverted by some unknown mechanism.
Thankfully, I still have the user controls I built. But I still have to rewire 3k lines worth of form events.3 -
You know what the worst type of screwups are? Those that have already happened but you don't know about yet.
There you are, coasting along, thinking everything's OK, blissfully unaware that you're fucked. And no matter what you do, you're still fucked. -
WU: Is there anyway we can help u?
Customer: I doubt it, but thank you for using WU.
I feel him on this one, I'm still getting errors when trying to send money.

My first django website going into dev environment. (Management portal for company's license management)
I know there will be a river of bugs but, still I'm happy.
Also, this was the first assignment on my first job. -
To anyone who likes to solve problems, here's one:
How can I (m29) get the idea into my boss' thick skull (m50), that the crisis meeting he had with the client could be averted by just using what every other software development company uses (git), without being explained what the difference between a .java and .class file is?7 -
After moving desks, ending up next to your manager.
The manager is there when you arrive at work, and is still there when you leave. He never seems to leave his desk, not even for lunch, except for the occasional meeting.
We never see him do anything other than work, but sometimes he joins in on personal conversations with other colleagues, which usually ends the conversation rather quickly.1 -
I FUCKING HATE JAVA
Wee need to do a schoolproject with JavaFX and TableViews. The editing of the tables works grate and is also displayed after commiting. But wen i take the data from the TableViews there is still the old one...9 -

The most annoying thing about being an IT professional...
Microsoft never calls me to tell me there is a problem with my computer. WTF!
I use Linux, but still, I totally miss all the fun I would have with that wanker...1 -
*So I have a function where the date is formatted as 20180317 and get returned if I pass a date to it.*
Junior Dev: I'm selecting March as a month but it's showing 20180217 and not 20180317, what should I do?
Me: I've written function for formatting date just go there and there will be date.getMonth() just add 1 to it by doing +1.
Junior Dev: It's still not working!!!.
So I went there and checked what she did, and she did this .....
date.getMonth(+1);2 -
Mobile phone.
With our without internet it is still one of the biggest distractions I have. I keep checking it even though there is nothing.2 -
I have hundreds of Udemy courses I'm enrolled to. I hoarded them when they offered free coupons a few years ago. I realized most of them are trash, sharing wrong information with their thick accents. There is no option to unenroll, just archive. It feels dirty knowing they are still there, like ghosts hiding behind the curtains. Hoarding is a disease. I need to get rid of the noise. There is so much noise in today's world. Send help.1

Fun fact: In 2020, there are still companies out there with full-blown web apps using CGI (yeah, remember? /cgi-bin?).20

That emotional rollercoaster when you refactor a huge mess and finally there are no more compile errors in it. But there are still endless broken tests to fix :(

Why do people not use search engines?
Like there exist so many good search engines and you still ask a question that can be answered by searching 2 minutes on the internet???
You could save yourself and others so much fucking time!!!7 -
Guys, What is the future of Kotlin? Is it a dead end? I mean many companies still use Java and google also released Dart for cross platform app development in previous years. Is there any point in learning Kotlin?18
-
Server behaved weird and I couldn't find out why. Nothing on the logs.
As a personal side project, I've translated the whole project to Scala. Boom! FileNotFoundException. There was an incorrect path somewhere.
I still don't know why Java did not throw.2 -
So there are a few bugs with IDEA and qwertz keyboards, namely there are combos on @ { < keys (you know, not that i would use those in java). After setting it to qwerty, manually deleting every shortcut and restarting the whole damn universe, still nothing. Very useful, 10/10, would use again.
Except not.1 -
I'm pulling an all-nighter. And I'm still nowhere close to being done for desktop. But mobile is pretty much there. Mind you, I have work in 6 hours and counting1
-
Idk despite whatever my resume may suggest, I think I'm still a Junior. Dunno if that'd ever change tbh. I mean, that's the downside of "cutting edge tech", right?
I don't have any advice.
Everything important has already been said by somebody out there.7 -
Oh, god...why? (my reaction reading my code from 5 years ago, when I got my first programming job)
I still work there and I love it. I learned a lot in these years... -
It's awesome when one of your favorite apps removes one of your most used features!
Edit: Jk the feature's still there, just buried in a menu making it almost not worth the effort to use the feature.
Fuck you Spotify 🖕🏻7 -
Is there anyone who used to Play bit Games like BM, Alladin, Prince of Persia (The Old One), Mario, etc... And still would love to play those versions only, fuck the good graphics, those were awesome games3

School made me a stickler for the Linux kernel coding conventions in regards to the C language. And even though I shouldn't feel bothered by reading other coding styles.....i still get annoyed.
I try not to get irked cuz I find it a small thing to get annoyed at.... but i still do.....bad.
And even then i dislike how there is not padding inside of funcion parametes
void
fu(int here, int there) {}
Should be
void
fu( int here, int there ) {}
That space man...its needed.
Man this is such a small thing to be annoyed at..3 -
I'm still pretty new to elixir and functional programming. There have been numerous cases where I accidentally recreated functions such as Enumerable.map 😅2

It's incredible how many sites don't check / handle localStorage permissions.. they usually just completely break.
That is they use a div to block the view despite the page usually still working ..
There literally is an API to check for permissions..2 -

Why are there people that still don't use the metric system? It is so stupid and cost so much.
We formally adopted the metric system about 150 years ago. Why are systems that where developed 100 years later still based on stupid units that are based human body parts that differ between each person?7 -
Oh I'm tired of carrying chargers with me. I wish there was something like a wireless distance charger... Kinda like how a WiFi Hotspot can provide wireless connectivity to all devices in the range, I wish there was a Charging Hotspot.
I know this is not exactly dev related but more of physics and engineering, still, anyone has any idea about something like this? Do you think this is feasible?14 -
Are there any others that watch TV shows while working/coding (while still being productive)? I just finished watching The Office on one of my monitors and have finished all my tasks before any deadlines2
-
I usually like PHP, because it is easy to use, but FUCK! Can you just let me free the fucking memory by myself? Setting variable to null doesn't work, unset doesn't work either. I am still getting fucking memory exhausted error.
There is literally no data stored anywhere, because I unset every fucking thing.
gc_collect_cycles() doesn't work either, probably because this crap thinks there is a reference for this variable somewhere.12 -
Today was a real monday... Untill the lunch break nothing worked even the slightest bit, there was a lot of swearing in the office, afterwards it got better but still wasn't very productive.
So, how was your day?7 -
any of you guys listen to programming-related podcasts? 🎧
I recently came across "Syntax", a podcast on web development. They cover pretty basic stuff but I still find it interesting.
Would love to know if there are any other podcasts on programmin 🙂5 -
It used to be one of the best paying professions, so there is plenty of people who aren't meant to be software developers, but they tried to get money and now suck at it.
Now that standard of living increased by a lot there are other specialists that do not require this much education or talent (but still you need to be decent) and pay comparably or even more, because there is just so much demand for them if they are high quality (people wait for months). Those are mostly people who build, finish or otherwise improve houses and cars. Even unqualified labor got decent pay now, tho still about 1/3 of what average dev will make. -
Shutting down Windows instead of putting it into sleep should not save state. It did, in my case.
I had Chrome opened before shutting down. It's still there.
This is very nice fail-safe method, I must say.11 -
The fact that there are still new websites made with wordpress proves that as a species we are a case of hopeless masochists.3
-
Friend asked me this:
"So if PHP is that bad, why there are still so many job offers for PHP devs?"10 -
There's a big emphasis in our community on long nights and working all hours. Don't feel like less of a developer; if you need sleep go to sleep.
Take a shower, eat something, take care of yourself. Your bugs will still be there.1 -
Getting into the third hour of trying to run an android studio emulator on ryzen.
Significant progress is made though, now instead of not working and giving 9 errors, its still not working, but at least there are no more errors being reported... -
I remember there being someone on here who documented their progress on building their own sex robot with a bunch of Arduinos or something.
Who was that again? Are they still here?5 -
RIP YouTube Vanced. It was great while it lasted. Luckily we don't need to go back to the official app on mobile, there are still alternatives that don't suck nearly as much.16

Stupid UX on Apple app store connect website!

Pair programming. I noticed my productivity and motivation skyrocketed when I found about VS LiveShare, so now I share all of my code sessions. even if nobody's there, i still work more because I like showing my progress to others.1

So today in school I decided on my career choice. So I've decided on becoming a data scientist because I can still use my programming and I very much do like looking at data and researching things as well as program obviously :) so if there are any data scientists or data miners out there do you have advice?5
-
While most of the developers like to work on an IDE with dark theme, I still prefer my code to be on a white background.
Am I the only one with this odd taste or are there any other fellow devs with similar interests 🤔8 -
wait,
if there are 3.4 Billions FaceBook fake users, that means than there are also at least 3.4 Billions fake email accounts around. Jeez.
And the spam traffic estimates are at 260Billions email per day or 260B/3.4B=76 emails sent by each fake email accounts per day. Much less as probably fake email accounts are more.
So, only 76 spam emails sent per account per day. I think there is still room for a big improvement4 -
Once upon a time, there was a cup of coffee aimlessly walking around the open fields of Alabama. He then realized he was not from Alabama and joined with his father the Sun.
That, my friends, is the story of the epic adventures of a sheep named Bob.
Basically, Stephen said unto me: "let there not be sheep", yet there still was.
The wonders of the modern world--the wonders!
I really do like chocolate.5 -
Are there any working developers in Atlanta Georgia or surrounding areas, that knows if their company or organization is hiring. I am an entry level developer that is still in school and would like to get my foot in the door before I graduate.3

Still remember the first time I started writing style sheets, the biggest confusion was why do they use an id where we can always use a class.
Now I know why. Only you are your identity, but there may be many people of the same class. :)2 -
Thunderbird frequently shows the spinning beachball on my Mac (OS X Lion, late 2006, 3GB RAM (max), SSD)

It's amazing that SocialBlade is still not mobile responsive...
Are there even any developers working there?

There is a pretty popular job search site I have used for quite some time. I wanted to close my account due to spam phone calls and emails. The website has no ui for closing your account. I fly into a fit of rage and change my email address to 20 random characters @gmail.com. Now I still have an account there but can't log in. Still getting the spam.4
-
Wtf, there exists vim on windows :o, even tho I don't use it that much, except when on Linux servers, but still it's a nice addition3
-
Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my hard drive… and my RAM… even my keyboard. The IDE I’ve lost… the consumers I’ve lost… won’t stop hurting… It’s like they’re all still there. You feel it, too, don’t you?3
-
For all the iOS Users out there, stick to 10.3.3 (Still a small window to download and verify). Cool gifts are coming out.

Off all the websites out there, I think GitHub should know the importance of having a dark theme for the site!
It's 1 am and the night is still fresh..4 -
First dev job was unified communication and call center software. Over 4 years later, still there today.

Well, you've been taking my info for a while now, so technically we're married but still.

I've said this before, but i always get the spot I'm hoping for. there was one time i got rejected though.
i met a colleague during the interview process, and really thought he was getting that spot, he was much more qualified than the other participants. there was about another 4, out of which 3 still looked like good competition. the 4th one got there late, couldn't form a coherent sentence to save his life and had no job experience.
guess who they picked :v5 -
Scared of losing your job? Just sprinkle a couple of bugs here and there. Make sure they still need you6

I miss when the world still seemed to function off some reasonable system and there seemed like there was always something or someone you could count on14

I often hate about SOF because people downvoting for no reason or giving bullshit advice when they don't know shit. I must admit however sometimes it really helps and you can see that there are still competent people around, willing to help and explain.1

It is discouraging to realize that most people can be thieves if there are no consequences.
Proof: We cracked applications, video games, operating systems without a second thought. And yes, I still think it is a form of stealing.37 -
I expected to need the better part of an hour for a feature.
Here I am, two days later, still trying to figure out a solution. Turns out, there is a lot more complexity to it than I anticipated. -
I am getting really close to actually FINISHING the avatar editor, this took way less than I anticipated but there are still many bugs in that thing that I haven’t discovered yet and that I have already discovered.3

This year, 28 employees left my company or got fired. Currently, there are 28 still employed. In the start of the year, around 35 people were employed.
That's just impressive7 -
Parents were supportive in that they forced me to go to college, but let me do whatever I wanted while there.
Pretty sure they still don't really know what I do.1 -
I originally played System Shock in 1994, and I remember being rather frightened by it, but I didn't complete it. I decided to give it another go, and it still creeps me the hell out, but I didn't make a mistake by reinstalling it; I quite enjoy it -- it's up there with Quarantine. Deus Ex is still my favourite, though.3
-
I really do like VSCode but it is still lacking some features that i find essential.
There is no intellisense when for HTML in a PHP File. Although CSS Autocompletion works in HTMl Files. Quite Annoying2 -
I don't want too often about window but this....
I'm just trying to set the language from German to Dutch. I have changed everything from Germans to Dutch in the idiotic Settings and in the proper Control Panel. Still German...
Okay. Let's delete German all together and reboot... Still fucking nothing. Wth?
Eventually downloaded the package manually. Running LPKSETUP gives me the option to install it and remove German.
WHY THE FUCK WAS GERMAN THE ONLY LANGUAGE THERE AND WHY WAS IT STILL THERE?!
I FUCKING REMOVED THE LANGUAGE IN ALL SETTINGS AND CONTROL PANEL.
MICROSOFT CAN GET FUCKED IN THE ASS WITH A CACTUS FOR MAKING IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE LANGUAGES.
I still think it's weird because I could change my own Windows from Dutch to English just by changing it in the stupid Settings app
(while typing this rant an error occured. Just error. Nothing more. So Dutch still isn't installed. Fucking fuck)4 -
There are those few days in a sprint that could be extremely busy like these days.

They wanted it separated but still function the same. There is still the possibility that the companies will merge back together.
Those. Fucking. Asshats. -
Today I started tearing off some parts of the external wall of an old abandoned wooden house, built either in 1860s or 1930s. Surprisingly, the HTML is still very solid, except for the parts it was supposed to rot.
My project is on!!!
While it would be freaking cool to live in a renovated and modernised 150+y old house, a nearly 100y old house is still good enough!
I already imagine myself WFH there...3 -
