Bored, stuck in a long ass meeting. When suddenly someone brings up the program I made. People start complementing it.
Today's gonna be a good day.4 -
Your profession changes how you think.
Coding did the same for me. Some good, some bad.
The good:
I know which problems in life are worth trying to solve.
And I'm very good at solving those problems.
I can analyse a situation accurately. I don't get emotional and panic.
I can immediately identify logical flaws in people's thinking.
I can identify biases in others and myself.
The bad:
I tend to follow simple instructions to the letter and rarely improvise based on reality.
When my wife tells me her problem I try to solve it instead of empathizing - which is what she really wants.
I haven't developed street smarts or the ability to convince people with anything other than logic - but people are more emotional than logical.
I'm not good at small talk.15 -
There are two kinds of people:
those who write
if foo.isBar() {
foo.setBar(false)
}
else {
foo.setBar(true)
}
Vs
those who write
foo.setBar(!foo.isBar())
Only good programmers will understand😢😊31 -
I am new to Linux and still trying to figure out the CLI
Luckily my colleague and good friend helped me out with a list!17 -
Wife : School tooday ?
Me: Nop... Remote working ! 😎😁
Love programming
Wife : But how people know you working.
Me : git commit -a -m "im working on it" && git push
Wife : ohh never mind have a good day !
Me : you too17 -
employee: I want growth in my role
company: *installs ping pong table*
employee: autonomy?
company: *creates fully-stocked snack room*

company: some people just aren't a good culture fit.6 -
Been 2+ years and still getting +1s on it. Either people are digging up their feeds too deep or devRant's content discovery is just too good. xD13
-
Sometimes I get really annoyed when I'm with people and someone starts speaking loudly and changes a good topic :/8
-
If you want to improve, be with people that are already better than you.
That's what I do, and so far so good.8 -
Feeling blessed, left the army after 5 years, 3 deployments, to attend 3 years of computer science school and get a stable lifestyle.
I've got a supporting girlfriend, mentally never felt better, and for the next 3 years, this is my seat and view in class !
Happy coding all, and have a nice day✌️8 -
I'm old school. These are the only emojis I use.
:)
:(
:\
And I don't select them I use text...Sometimes I throw in a Kirby flicking people off for good measure.

So at the beginning there was assembly.
But people wanted something more highlevel, so C was born.
But writing big projects was a pain so C++ was invented.
But then the web started to become more popular and C++ wasn‘t really good at that, so Rasmus Lerdorf created PHP.
And then everything moved to the client and should be loaded dynamically for better UX, so everyone writes JS.
But JS doesn‘t have a good performance, so people created web assembly compiled from C...
Am i the only one who sees the irony in this?7 -
To all the people who just lurk here -
Hi!
Hope you experience something that you'd want to rant about! (in a good way)..
This applies to me too 😅5 -
Remove the egos, and then read other people codes, it doesn't matter their codes are good or bad, you can still learn from it.
-
Friend: you're good with computers right?
Me: sure..
Friend: great so i signed up for this site that likes posts and i think they hacked my account
Me: ok... and?
Friend: well since you're good with computers do you think you could hack my account back?
Me: goodbye
People suck4 -
Picked this up the other day. Hope it's as good as people have been telling me.
If so, then here begins a new journey for me to better code.11 -
My friend got laid off today. He was told to not come to office from tomorrow. No explanation given even after a good performance review.
Why companies are so bad at treating employees like people.6 -
Some people assume that since I am techy that I have a really good laptop or setup.
Nope.
Just have my raspberry pi 3 as my main computer. Go Linux🔥🔥12 -
I managed to get a group of people to use an open source and privacy respecting service instead of its proprietary (surveillance) competitors today.
The experience was good for everyone and I wouldn't be surprised if at least some people who participated will remember this good working FLOSS solution.
My work is done here for the day :)12 -
I haven't met many people through programming but I've met many friends through devRant but certainly also through being a Linux (server) enthusiast.
At study I found some good Linux guys and now through devRant I've gotten some awesome linuxers and privacy/security like minded people who I definitely see as great friends!
Also I find it awesome that I can actually teach people stuffs that I love researching about/ doing myself!9 -
People who rant about their phone making bad photos that are surprised when I make good photos on them...
JUST F*CK OFF AND HOLD IT HORIZONTAL AND WITH 2 HANDS LIKE I TOLD YOU LONG.MAX_VALUE TIMES6 -
It's great to hear the boss telling someone that your code "saves time" and "makes things easier to do".
Write good code people. It pays.1 -
Off to an interview with a design agency I didn't apply because of people who I don't know referred me.
Wish me good luck!3 -
I hate these LINUX AND NOTHING ELSE fascists. Why don't you just let people use what they want? And btw: just using Linux doesn't make you a good programmer...18
-
One of the owners of the company I work for is teaching programming to the lady's son who cleans the office. They are poor people but with a good heart. It is so good to know that if he takes this opportunity, he could help his family in the future. This is awesome.3
-
DigitalOcean have given me heaps of free credit for hosting open source projects / things related to open source projects over the years. They've also given free hosting to various charities I know. Seem like a bunch of genuinely good people.9
-
Good morning people. Holidays in Malta. Trying to forget html, css, php, MySQL and JavaScript 🙂 ... But my heart is with you 😂6
-
I went to bed early... Got a strange feeling the next morning... It felt like what other people describe as 'good'.7
-
I'd like to tell a story about a friend I once knew. She was good at her job, but only her job. People loved her so much, but when the people got interested in things other than her job, they took her with them. She was forced to do things she couldn't do as well, and all because people couldn't change. She feels overused, overworked, and she still tries to keep her head up. People need to stop using her.
#KeepJavaScriptOnTheWeb5 -
I see a trend here.
Posts of people with good number of ++’s get more ++’s than the posts of people with less number of ++’s. Even if the post of person with good number of ++’ is just a normal conversation starter and post of person with less number of ++’s is an actual good fucking rant.
It’s not a bad thing, per se. I hope nobody gets offended. All in good spirit.
To people with good number of ++’s:
Let’s not hold back and ++ the good content of people with less number of ++’s.
To people with less number of ++’s:
Don’t hold back your thoughts. Be free. Write free. Don’t try to make your rant to look a certain way to get more ++’s. We are all here to support.
Let’s grow together and spread positivity.
Peace.18 -
Random profesional behavior reminder:
The fact that you're obviously from a minority doesn't automatically make you non-racist. Specially, it doesn't give you immunity for being racist towards other minorities.
Just saying! Be racist outside of office hours, if you can. Or just... Keep that shit to yourself. 💩40 -
Professor: Envision a person as an object, what methods would it have?
Student: Run
Prof: Yes, good example.
Other student: Jump
Prof: yes, people also do that
Me: Die
Prof: Well yes, but I'd prefer we don't take this any further27 -
Does anyone else ever feel like they're too stupid to be a good programmer? Like some of the people here are very very intelligent. Meanwhile, I'm over here making a fucking 8% on a calculus exam. I just feel like I'm way too stupid to actually be good at this.19
-
Okay dutchies and other people who'd like to join.
devRant meeting in The Hague. As far as I can see, Saturday is a good option for many people and for the people who'd like to do a weekend, they can find some sleeping accommodation in The Hague.
I'm personally more than willing to do two days!
Anyone any ideas for a good meeting place? Also one in case it'll rain which is quite likely in the Netherlands.
Please comment your ideas on this information!40 -
I wonder why stack overflow gets so much hate on here. To me, it is a tremendously helpful community. People are usually pleasant and forthcoming.
I sometimes see questions closed as "not constructive", even though it has thousands of upvotes, but generally, if you follow the rules, you'll have a good time.
Maybe people want SO to be something it is not, or maybe people behave differently around different technologies. I mostly find Python, Djang and general web answers, and they are fine5 -
So people here are complaining about StackOverflow being rude and unfriendly to noobs.
Post a link to your question and people here will judge whether it's a good question/answer.
We will see whether it's the network or your questions being just bad.8 -
I didn't expected that devrant could be this good, facebook is just full of spams nowadays and hard to find dedicated people. Thanks @condor for suggesting devrant16
-
Sorry devrant I have to fix my life before I can spend time on you again 😔.
Good luck to you all might be some time before I'm back 😢 but you are my people!
Good luck8 -
I'm not good with faces, at all.
I literally once forgot a dudes name and remembered after he got his laptop out from his bag and i saw his stickers.
I recognize people based on their stickers now...8 -
*11 PM*
Let's program something fun before going to bed! Gotta be fun, isn't it?
*2 AM, stressed*
*Refactors everything and runs it furiously*
*Everything works properly*
Good night, sweet people!2 -
You know how cities hang all sorts of decorations wherever possible before Christmas? Well, it looks like people of Kekava, Latvia, are very big fans of Kotlin and find it's logo to be festive!
Good for them!7 -
Why management people thinks that a career path for any senior developer is to be a "leader" and be good in business side. Its like saying "hey you are a good programmer, let me take away that work you love to do and do stupid human resource management instead"5
-
I hate the dumbass people that send on slack: "good morning", "good afternoon" or "how are you?" and do not say anything until I reply. If you do this FUCK YOU!! Just ask the fucking question. Now I just ignore everybody until the question is made11
-
I applied for a google step internship today. My cv is pretty good (people say). University transcript is a malformed csv and I am forced to provide a screenshot. Wish me luck.3
-
Me trying to show to my girlfriend family the lord of the rings. I know it is nothing about code but please tell me there's good people out there.5
-
I fucking HATE when people tell me:
"Oh you are using Unity? What kind of dumb shit uses Unity! Isnt its only purpose to make shovelware and shit?!"
THIS MAKES ME FURIOS AT MOST POINTS! AND I WANT TO PUNCH THOSE DIPWIT COCKS WHO ALWAYS THINK ANYTHING OTHER THAN UNITY IS GOOD, IN THE FUCKING FACE! TWICE!
unity isnt just for SHOVELWARE and CHEAP SHITGAMES, it has some really good potential when in the RIGHT FUCKING HANDS!! FOR FUCK SAKE!
(If you want an example look up dronethegame.com currently in crowdfunding) FUCK THESE PEOPLE...
FUCK17 -
@dfox you could try using progressive jpegs, so that images are not shown when they're fully loaded but, lower resolution is loaded first then pixels are added to it as time passes, really good for people with slow Internet.6
-
Some people hate a language due to problem they faced while using it. I simply hate some language because code written in it doesn't looks good.4
-
I see now why people can despise WordPress.
2nd week of just pure learning and I gotta say that I can see that the way it was built was paved with good intentions, but it's clear people wanted more from it and things have only gotten more and more messy.
Honestly, it's fine. It's not my favorite stack, but whatevs.16 -
Working as a new employee: no wifi. No work. 10 new tools to get familiair with. 41 new people to get to know. No workstation. No desk. No signed contract.
So far so good.4 -
Idk if people noticed but Snapchat CEO allegedly said that he doesn't want to expand in poor countries like India and Spain.
Well good luck getting hatred from 1+billion people.
The rating section had a drastic increase in the 1 star rating. Damn, that's one way how to not run a business.4 -
I was talking to a friend of mine(more of an acquaintance really) about our shared interest in Go and how I am trying to see if I can implement it more and more into my daily activities(simple CLI utilities, maybe a web app or two) and he mentioned how much he likes it after being part of a Java shop for such a long time. He said that he got tired of the verbosity of Java and how Go was such a "breath of fresh air"
var i SomeShit
do.SomeShit(&i)
if do.Error != nil {
panic(do.Error)
}
fmt.Println("Could not agree at all")
On how bullshitty it is to say that one switched over to Golang because of the verbosity of other languages, specially when anything meaningful that you might do with the code requires constant checking.
And let us not
forget := lol.bullshit(); forget != nil {
about some of the other bs you get to do
oh look scoped errors
}
.....like I get it man. I like the language, no, It ain't replacing C or C++ for low level shit, not with a garbage collector are you fucking high?
But yes, I do like the language, they got a lot of shit right, the thing is, I feel like I know everything about it already since A) shit is way too simple, simple enough to be used by anyone really and B) other than goroutines this language does not really bring anything new to the table, far as I can tell.
I mean shit. I thought I was at odds with Python disliking syntactical whitespace enough to make me try and not use an otherwise perfectly good lang(Python I love you but hate syntactical whitespace) but Golang really puts me at odds. I love it but dislike it at the same time.8 -
I'm the only one who hates the idea of "overemployment" (people which hoards lots of remote jobs and then split their attention between them while getting a full time salary from each of them)?
If these guys believes to be so good and productive (and some of them definitely are) entrepreneurship or working as independent contractors/consultants is always a great viable options instead of trying to become multi millionaires by "stealing" good jobs which may instead lift people who have very little from poverty or bad jobs.31 -
A lot of people are very good at making extremely complex and hard-to-read React components.
Very very few are good at making clean and easy-to-understand React components.8 -
This is a good Experience -
I used to go to a class to learn C++(was a kid back then).
One of the sir there told me -
"Anybody can write code, just knowing coding is not enough, idea is more important. You should have good ideas and solutions, you can alaways find people to code for you"
This has stuck with me till this day.1 -
Even though I bragging about how good my few projects are to the people I talk to them about, I undervalue my worth as a developer.
Even though I am desperate for money, I've only recently started trying to get work in the dev community (with little success) because I actually feel that I'm not a good enough developer..17 -
How are there in 2019 still people thinking ip bans are a good/working way to ban people of of game servers/websites?6
-
Coding impacted my life in a lot of good ways one unexpected thing happed "Suddenly people couldn't understand me" ! 😂2
-
A free advice: Dont let people recognize you on devrant. Its too good to not let your coworkers/mentors know about it and you should realise you must have ranted about them already.9
-
I hate backendphobia! It feels like so common nowadays. People scare other people with backend being too hard and stuff, and that feeling of scariness is something that infects lot of people. Please stop fearing the backend!
Yes, some backend stuff can be hard, but there's no good reason to fear it. I just hate it when I go to a new team and they all seem to be backendphobics idiots. I've build enough backends to not give in to the fear, pls stop scaring people.11 -
One of the few good things dell ever made are it's monitors.
They must be good. People never fucking throw them away. Back when I did repairs I came across *so* many customers who just stocked monitors away like squirrels preparing for the god damn ice age. Three dell monitors here. Five there. Every where a monitor. Old McDonald had dell farm, E, I, E, I, O.6 -
Sent an email to 4 people.
Got 5 out of office auto responses. WTF.
Good thing I don't have work to do 🙃3 -
People: You're creepy
Me: can't determine whether I shd feel good or bad.
Ok so I'm creepy. Thanks.☺️4 -
i wish i could half-ass work, but instead I'm a huge nerd who does a good job and people are giving me more shit to do now4
-
When people says you are good in programming they mean you will clear the exam easily.
But they don't know there is a art of writing code.
And if you stuck in the code then there is a art of debugging the code.
Who knows the both is a good programmer.2 -
I wonder what "eligible" means. "The few people who learn anything in this program..." I can't wait to write the copy for my school. "100% of students who turn out to be good at things - will do things well." haha.1
-
Weirdest morning in a while:
- good morning!
_ good morning
* walk over to colleagues desk to see what he’s working on pure out of interest*
_what do you want?
-nothing just curious
_do you want to fight?
-wtf?
The more i work with fellow developers the more i realize the special kind of people we actually are.8 -
1) I don't have to talk to other people while doing it.
2) The computer does exactly what I want it to do and failure will always be an error made by me, not someone else. That makes it satisfying.
3) I'm pretty good at it. It's just fun helping other people at school and creating small programs to solve problems. -
The reason I choose only devRant over other platforms can be seen through the sane reaction to the GitHub controversy.
It's good to know that, when your fucking job isn't on the line, people become normal.1 -
People hate Amazon, people like to hate on Amazon.
But people also keep buying from Amazon
This morning I took an amazon return package to DHL and literally at 17:00 this day (the same day!) I got the refund to my bank account
What the fuck. I mean yeah I hate amazon as much as the next guy. But that's literally why people are buying from amazon. You can't just say "amazon bad" and then not also appreciate when they are doing something good12 -
Completely drunk...coming from a farewell Party of a good colleague...sad to see good people leaving3
-
I started thinking it would be a good idea to write a shopping list in json so it's nice and categorised.
Then I thought what people who saw my list in the shop would say.3 -
Is it a good idea to use Github or have a private local Git Server? I’ve heard Github now let’s people make private repositories for free so I was thinking of that but idk. What do you guys use?23
-
I kinda hate how even if people submit good and useful code to OSS repositories, you need to act like a salesperson if you want anyone to notice/care about it
-
Recently I've started thinking about how we are always told "No you can't do that" to everything. That feels like a theme in our industry.
I've also been thinking about how often people say well done to each other, or just comment that something is good in a pull request. Everything is always focused on bugs and mistakes - not good bits.
The first point conflicts with the idea that when using languages and frameworks you should follow their philosophy or you're gonna have a bad time - but in all other instances you mostly don't have wrong answers, just answers that can be better so a lot of stuff is opinion based.
I've decided to change my ways and focus just as much on good stuff as bad when I review code and to make sure I'm focusing just as much, if not more, when people do something good.
I think I do a good job, but I don't think I've been told I'm doing a good job or that anything specific is good more than a couple times in the last year - mostly in mandatory reviews. What about you?2 -
Following situation:
6 people sitting on a table having a few beers Friday evening.
3 Devs and 3 non-Dev people. The devs were talking about stories and problems with customer service...
So far so good... Suddenly one dev came up and said:
Hey guys! I have a very funny and interesting "GoDaddy" story to tell!
The faces of the non dev people were priceless because they imagined a totally different story.....4 -
Ok, I see a lot of hate about PHP and I always wondered what is the experiences people have had with PHP to like or dislike it.
Personally, PHP was the first programming language I learnt and used, so it has it's special place in my heart.
I acknowledge that it has it's pros and cons (as any other programming language). My hypothesis is : People have used php in a project they didn't like or didn't turned out how they expected. Or they used php for something it wasn't ment for.
Do people hate php because it's a trend ? How many php haters have good reasons to hate it that much ?
I'm just curious to know the thoughts and experiences (good or bad) of other devs.11 -
Drinking alcohol is soo good for my social life because my autopilot is far better with people.
Somehow people can actually really get to know and like me then.
Will this ever change for normal me (22 yo) or should I just keep going out?12 -
When I see people talking about an application I developed and published on Play Store, and saying how good is it.1
-
Saying Java is good because it runs on 3 billion devices is the same like saying mass public transport is good because it carry billions of people.8
-
I so much fucking hate most people
You devs are all good and cool people
Almost everyone else can eat a fucking dick
Some people are fucking disgusting
Everything is so blissful and the whole day is so bright and then you hit into a fucktard that ruins your day
Fuck you bitch you stupid fucking whore5 -
The traits that compile to form a programmer
-Not good at naming things
-People started asking for you to fix electronics regardless of what you tell them You’re actually studying/good at
-Procrastination through the roof
-Lives off of Coffee, POP, Energy drinks, or what ever source of caffeine.13 -
I Fucking hate people!!!!!

Makes me want to listent to tayler swift no shit.16 -
I'm in an open space
Since there are new people, they are formed so people are talking. So I put my headphones with noise reduction.
But I'm with a team that communicates too, so my music shouldn't be too loud.
Man it's hard finding the good balance in the volume.1 -
Uranus never looked so good!
https://nasa.gov/feature/goddard/...
I love the new images of everything they are getting. The people getting pictures at home are also amazing.6 -
I hate how people automatically assume anything coming out of China is spyware. Because the US and EU have such good reputations for preserving privacy right?2
-
If you want other people to have fun at their job, tell them they did good work and give a compliment or two.
Everyone loves appreciation2 -
A message to designers and developers:
please please please stop being so touchy about your designs/software. The final work is meant to be used/enjoyed by end users, customers, clients, young people, old people, disabled people, short attention span people, irrational people, patient people etc. So if they say it's not good enough accept it go back and make it simpler (not necessarily better but simpler) and move on!!
Stop going into defence mode and start throwing your toys out the pram or giving people the silent treatment.
Sorry just been on the receiving end and boy is childish.1 -
Screw all the people who think standard email is "secure". It is not suitible for sending passwords and SSN numbers.
How can something Equifax or Marriott hacks have happened and people are still ok sending out information like this in plain text?!
I know their hacks weren't email released but still.....should be a good time to up some security standards. Right?5 -
People who have personal experience,
What's the best place to do micro-jobs for like $10-$50 that I can do as a freelancer in like an hour? Is Fiverr a good place?11 -
Today I managed to convince three people (including my cs teacher) to use signal, today was a good day.
Now I just need more time to learn about privacy / security stuff, can you recommend me any resources?7 -
I started iOS app dev thinking there’s good scope in the future, now I hear people saying app dev is gonna die switch to data science. Tf6
-
That awkward moment when you tell your family that you're participating in a hackintosh.
Their response: Why would you do any such thing? Hacking other people is not a good thing son.
Me: It's time to leave earth2 -
People seem to like cryptographic puzzles. Well, try this one for size:
b417021dc01b409ad0c21b430a508624
Answer is a sentence in plain english. Space is used, but no punctuation. Post answer to comments. Good luck :D2 -
It's not just technical people who influence me. Neil Gaiman taught me how to use my creativity (google: make good art) Susan Cain taught me what it is to be an introvert (google: quiet - the power of introverts)
-
It makes me feel good to hear of all the mistakes people make - reminds me that if I make a mistake its actually not as bad as I think 😃
-
Fuck those people who make you feel negative about yourself. I hope everyone has a good upcoming week.2
-
What browser does everyone use? I've been using Firefox and its pretty good mixed with DuckDuckGo I could ask for better, but people seem to love Chrome. What does everyone think should I try Chrome for a bit.40
-
When you realize even the good sites with smart programmer people on them are deeply infected with the stupid.7
-
3 years after quitting my job, and here I am, still, coding for life. Haven't been here for a long time though. Good to see this site is still up and people ranting in 2020+1 :D I miss this place!1
-
Can anyone recommend some good Linux user group?? I wanna learn more and connect to people who like it.14
-
How to manage when you start something good for you, start taking decisions for your good and people start spreading hate about you. It obviously will effects your mental health right?
How you guys manage it? I mean how?
Today I'm feeling of getting bullied and getting bullied again from the same person. I'm correct but can't show the correctness just because there's no proof I've in-hand.
I'm literally tired of people now!4 -
Well! Interview at Amazon done! Really nice people with a good mentality. Nothing left but to cross fingers!2
-
Duh... Searched for a good WYSIWYG editor for TALL stack the last days. There are tons of bullshit posts on the internet.
Not all programmers are smart people.6 -
I think one point that people often forget is that bootcamps are more of a learning accelerator than a one-stop shop, and the few reputable camps around do quite a good job.1
-
I can't get any shit done when trying to work in a public place, like in class or at Starbucks or frankly anywhere where people can (and will) look at my screen, as they'll inevitably think, "what the fuck is this guy doing?"1
-
Why people suck at theory even being damn good at something... Fucked up computer networks paper !!! :/2
-
Don't love the environment where an idiot developer, who has perfected his people skills and Visio skills constantly impresses the management with good looking charts, albeit unintelligible, and the management adopts his stupid ideas every time.1
-
@dfox just listened to episode 1 of podcast. It was great, so good to listen to passionate people like DHH.
Suggestion for new guest: Samy Kamkar1 -
TV and the Internet are good because they keep stupid people from spending too much time out in public.
– Douglas Coupland -
Clean Code book has some good guidelines but sometimes becomes too fanatical for my taste. For example, comments in good doses are really good.
And people sho accept it as Gospel are making a mistake.13 -
Reading over at zerohedge.
And I just wanted to comment on what this one guy posted:
"People that show up on time, dressed to work, not stoned. People that don't stop in the middle of the day to take care of personal matters. People that deliver to the right location. People that don't steal or damage product.
We pay well over the national average for final mile truck drivers. 80% of the ones you get are worthless. The ones that do a good job we reward handsomely to keep them. We have had open reqs for two years now that we can't fill at just about any wage. "
If all the people you hire leave, or no one wants to work for you for any wage, the problem isnt the pool of new hires. The problem is you.
Like a certain fast casual chain that claim they train their employees, and then just toss line cooks on the line and scream at everyone on the line.
Saw it while I was at an interview. Seen it in other
Train your fucking people.
"Good" is now a synonym for "people I dont want the expense of training, and people trained at someone elses expense."
Train your fucking people or gtfo of busines because you have no business being in business otherwise.2 -
People be like: “We don’t use comments cause good code should explain itself”
Then proceed to use complicated app architectures with classes all over the place.
Fuck.7 -
Why do people continue to ask me why I'm not just sending any - ANY - error/exception message in full length to the user.
Am I going nuts? You can't tell me that this is a good idea right?10 -
Good oop is hard to implenent and keep track off in my experience.
I have seen projects so hard which have such large hierarchies and reused components that even the most minimal change breaks an entire change. Dependency injection is a pretty cool tool to use, but I have seen more people fuck it up and make something that supposedly removes tightly coupled components be the extreme opposite.
Remember your basics people. Fuck
Ok everything is good now. Happy thoughts...nuthing but happy thoughts16 -
two things people think they are good at, but actually have no clue about:
regex and sex
[I just needed an excuse to write a post about those two, since they sound really nice to each other :D ]7 -
So i'm working with people from another team to bring about a feature. I was wondering, "how come they're churning out so much shit in so little time!?"
Apparently, they make code, merge request to the release branch, and then do unit tests later.
How do people, in good conscience, think that they can skip unit testing for extremely vital components???1 -
Sometimes I hate JS. It makes people think that this kind of crap is a good idea...
What the actual fuck. :/
By the way, is there a way to format code posts on devRant that I'm missing?3 -
When I published my first app and some people made an official thread in a forum. When I went there they told me I had done a good work. Needless to say they don't know me at all.

Usually spyware had to be installed maliciously or without the victim knowing, but nowadays people fucking use it voluntarily WTF. Bitmoji you fucktwit. Everyone sees where you are, what music you listen to and the users (at least the ones I know) even promote it like it is something good
wat is up with people2 -
Why some people think it's fine to hire unexperienced people to do stuff, when there is no one in a company who could check if their code is fine?
Learning through active coding is fine. Until after two months later all you do is patching your code because you found out on stack that this is not a good way of doing it. -
Aye folks, im looking for a 3d printer and i saw some people with one on here, so ill ask, is there like a model that is universally good? Or a manufacturer or something. Budget is 350$ tops.6

I posted this previously but somehow the category was not seleteced properly and people started labeling me a spammer.... Pretty warm and welcoming I guess... Any how here's the meme..
"Forgot to commit? You are as good as dead.."2 -
in the hospital with surgery and our deployment goes wrong, so glad I work with really good people!3
-
So I just started learning programming specifically c# cause that's what my dev uncle recommended for beginners. I hope I can meet interesting and good people around me :)14
-
Good to see people are learning and don't use hard coded credentials and store them in the DB.
Now they just have to quit putting them into migration files -
Apple must have people really good at IDA Pro macOS masks the uname -a string perfectly. Side note: macOS is the best Linux distro.7

How do you deal with having too much work on your back but still wanting to help people around you, because you know they are good people and trying their best but they also have too much work to do?5

"What is the biggest misconception people have about your job?"
could be a good idea for wk11 rants. ;)1 -
Just got comfortable enough with React.js to start answering people’s questions on stack overflow and I have to say it feels good to help people1
-
My company has hired and fired 3 Engagement Managers (people who host events, refill snacks, etc) since I'm started here, and I'm starting to think People Ops is either
1) Cannot hire someone good
2) Is toxic and causing the people to leave
3) Hire and fire before their 90 days are up
It sucks that right when I think we got someone good, they give them the boot. That should not be a norm or acceptable to go through 3 managers in 9 months.1 -
PHP why do people hate you ? personnaly i like React but i prefer vanilla js 😍
Can anyone tell me why people hate PHP. He is a good guy, i think 😅

I have only read negative things about slack - can any of you give me a good list of reasons for why people don't like it and whether that's accurate9

I love the people on github who puts one line text and a gif of their project. So easy to understand and not having to read some large text. Keep up the good work people.2 -
Some people are good at troubleshooting, some people are just good in asking other people to troubleshoot it for them. Which one would you rather be?

Seeing some people posting stories about horrible internships so I thought let's post a good one.
At My current internship they treat an intern like an employee meaning having some great opportunities and rights. Having rights to ask anyone anything or question any decision or pointing that you are wrong.
Me: I don't want to work with this product.
Team lead: okay then there are some other options choose one of them.
And more cool stuffs -
Building software for other people for a living for 15 years has taught me how to hate the only thing I was ever much good at.2

No network in mobile due to bankruptcy of an Telecom Operator and people think that I could help because I am good with computers instead of going to fucking retailers of other Operators who could adopt the number.1

People have good coding style right up until they use a new language, then it's like they're back at uni. Having to explain basic things like good names or what should be a member variable, don't add comments like "sets variable x"2

I mean. People love Docker and Kubernetes? Really? I mean, I agree it's good. I'm just wishing if people demanded for better and simple software and not complicated stuff. Idk10

I was wondering that we, as a developer, got a platform like devRant to share ideas, talk about things that we like, can understand humour that will bounce out of any non-technical people.
In the entire world, there are so many profession (like doctors, corporate people and so on...,), without a good platform like devrant they are missing on so many things.1 -
Being sleepy at work with a window open. For some reason the sounds of the construction site transformed into hellish screams of people being eaten by a giant human like mouth for a good 30 seconds. That's fun
-
Layoffs, hard to see good working people leaving the building.
You can feel the mood of the company the next days/weeks is a killer of productivity. -
I don't care what anyone says I'm still holding on to the idea of a depressed peoples chatting/dating platform primarily focused on connecting people that don't think they are good enough and trying to make them reevaluate5
-
DevRant should have a questions and awenser in the more tab so when people have question about DevRant, jobs and other things other people could awenser, I belive that is a good way from keeping rants and memes in a place and Q&A in other place2
-
Working on someone else’s React project is a nightmare especially when they don’t know how to write good JSX code ( which most people don’t )
I honestly am looking forward to when Svelte takes over the frontend world5 -
Greetings my good people.
I'm currently making a Calculator app. Is there any suggestions you can give me.
I've already added, Square Root function, Factorial, Area of Circle, Volume of Cone, Decimal to Binary function, temperature convertor, and BMI function.8 -

People who dismiss functional programming: **** you. Let them get phased out slowly and in a rot.
People who like functional programming but stuck at their current jobs: Let's build companies, competitor projects, pave the way for the future. Because we just know how good it is. :D31 -
Tomorrow I'm forced to attend an in person "advanced SQL training", nothing against SQL or my company's good intentions but it's naive to expect which people would retain much after a single, super intensive 8 hour session.3

So I was going through rants and saw people disliking the rants vocally. I started upvoting the rants. I smiled to myself.
So I stuck in my thumb and pulled out a plumb, oh what a good boy am I?2 -
Things I don't think I ever want to own. Large battery powered vehicles: bikes, cars, trucks, etc. They seem to be quite good for carbon reduction though. People don't seem to survive the fires they cause.5

The ones I have now! I have a team of great people I'm working with. We get good work done and have alot of laughs. And since we work for a huge fortune 500 company, we have plenty of people in the enterprise to complain to each other about!

I feel like the better you are technically, the worse you'll fare career wise. I've seen it, people who are really good at software engineering rarely make much money. On the other hand, people who have a 'technical background', and go into management, do far better.
It's almost as the transferable skills from I.T. pay far better than the actual I.T. skills themselves. -
My biggest insecurity is that people will one day find out that I am not good enough!
I write clean code and do all the shit around it but I don't feel good enough.

As we're sitting like nearly all day, my sit is like dead.. I was wondering if some (tall) people have recommendation about good sit ?

yet another rant about shitty documentation, this one isn't readable without copying it out somewhere else.
How does someone decide this is good enough to post online, i swear some people don't proof-read anything anymore -
I watch pirated movies but is it just me who feels really weird that people even pirate udemy courses? I'm not saying pirating movies is a good thing but pirating study materials... Man it's a weird feeling 😅12

Any of you guys (especially German people) know of this online bank N26? It looks pretty cool and I was thinking of getting another bank account for a better money management plan. Anyone's used it before/knows it's safe/good?8

Most humbling thing for me us talking to people who have more experience than me about a problem I have. It's kind of uncomfortable at first knowing you're not that good compared to these guys, but eventually you just realize they were where you were once, asking people better than you for help.

Do any companies handle pay/promotion well?
Our startup has lost its last 3 or 4 good up-and-coming devs and management has blinders on regarding the issue.
If you're struggling to find engineers, pay at least market rate.
If you're losing good junior and mid-level people, make sure there's some feedback on the path to Senior level.
Why is this so difficult?1 -
Mom: What are you doing right now?
Me: Researching on cocaine. //Assignment was about cocaine in Coca-Cola
Mom: Is cocaine a CS course or something?// So naive
Me: Yes it's a mind boggling course, some people fail to survive the course. It's practiced world wide.
Mom: ooh good good. Carry on
And my sarcasm went unnoticed until later when I told her what cocaine is.😂 -
I need some help people. Need a good tutorial to understand Bootstrap grid and responsive framework. I have always worked on Media queries before. Couldn't find a good tutorial.11

Idea: So as curvew will be imposed around the world. Would it be a good idea to develop an app that would based on location assign a slot for people to leave the house for an hour a day?7

I got an interesting quesrion. People asking me why i started programming and i realised quickly.. I started so never had to deal with people and fast forward a few years i got the opposite, only difference is. I found like minded and good people that love what they do and I am glad with that, maybe abrupt but in my mind, good decision.
So in the end, thank you all regardless of your upbringing, past and where you are in your career. You're the reason all of us actually find comfort in talking to people. Where it be rants good or bad
Enjoy the weekend -
Terrible, bad, mediocre, good, great:
so, 60% of the people in the workforce aren’t even “good” at their job.

What. Setproctitle actually changes /proc/PID/cmdline? Who thought that was a good idea? Now a bunch of people at my "security" company think that makes the command line a safe way to pass secrets.1

I need to write code for mini sumo robot and have no idea how to start. I don't know any programming language so which one can be good to start? If You have any good courses or something like that I'll appreciate. My friend told me that Python is good option, some people from YouTube said same thing, is that right? Robot is built on Arduino Uno but I can use my Raspberry Pi3 as well if it makes any difference.3

I just hope google rename themselves to something else before making a major fuck up.
They are currently employing around 55K devs have a million people worldwide associating themselves with their certifications like admob, GSOC, aad, etc.
atleast let the "google" name should go untainted, so that people can say, "when they were google they were still good" or some other conspiracy theory2 -

I'm looking for my replacement... Helping HR to validate the profiles, and I'm discarding people only because they write their code in Spanish... Name variables etc. I feel they are not following good practices.. ( We are a Spanish speaker country... )1

Good morning all,
New to this app and figured I could use it to learn a few things and to meet some people in the field. Currently studying game design and learning C# in Unity. Any other game devs in here?3 -
Mostly on hackathons and dev related events.

Making good money, started to think more logically in day to day situations.
Also realising how stupid people can be (read that in someone else's rant, props to the op) -
Okay so this has been bugging me. I know object oriented is important and helpful and good over all, but how much do people in the field with jobs use it. And this applies to any language I'm just curious.7

There are a lot of people moving to US, the people I think can only take right decisions.14 -

The above is true for every online community at any moment in time.8 -
