But JS doesn‘t have a good performance, so people created web assembly compiled from C...

I have always been that way.
I really hate having to socialize.
I've recently forced myself to talk more to people and it seems to work pretty well.
I may still love my computer more, but slowly I am getting better.

Used to pay $5/mo on a small instance for my personal site. Then I discovered Kubernetes and realized my site didn't scale! No canary deployments! So I upgraded and pay $200/mo now. Took weeks to configure. Millions of people can now read my resume. Damn, it's never looked better

Why do people hate windows 10? Granted I'm not super picky about my OS but windows 10 works just fine for me, and looks better than win7 imho.

The best part about being a dev is solving problems with an infinite number of pieces, with people who are 10,000 times better than I am, from wherever I want. I get paid to basically play with Legos all day.

In the last weeks there has been some turmoil on the Fediverse (Mastodon, GNUSocial, Pleroma etc) about "how nazis prefer a certain kind of software and therefore must the developer of the software take action".
One solution is to make software "harder to install so nazis can't install one"

The thing is, that people like that do a better job of spreading the views and the message of the self-proclaimed nazis. I wish people just started to ignore them.

So just wanted to get something off of my chest in relation to something that continues to prop up constantly in the OSS community.

OSS is not better than proprietary software and proprietary software is not greater than OSS.

Sick of seeing people complain when they see someone using proprietary software like google chrome and the like in comparison to open source alternatives.

We understand that the freedom offered by OSS is clearly better but we should not 'hate' or 'actively avoid' proprietary software.

Key example for me personally is that I use Gamemaker Studio 2 to develop my games and the amount of people who keep negatively branding that choice and tell me to use Godot because it is 'better' and 'open source'

People just really need to respect other peoples choices, if you have something to say on the matter when you see someone using something you may not agree with, sure say your opinion, but don't defend it and go on the attack because other people use differently licensed software.

My first programming experience was in highschool. Within two months I was a better programmer than my teacher.

This just indicates that the people who hire programming teachers need to know what programming is before hiring the wrong person.

I get annoyed with this kind of people, if I like what I do, and have spent infinite amount of hours enjoying while learning, I think it is normal to have job as your hobby. Or even better phrasing, it is normal to have hobby as your job!!!

Not only coding, but studying Computer Science has changed a lot in my life. For example, learning about CPU scheduling algorithms made me manage time for my personal tasks a lot better. Earlier I used to waste a lot of time by doing tasks in out of sync order. Also coding made me realize how dumb most people are!

Why do the java people say that java is superior over C#, when in fact it is more or less the same language? I never hear C# guys crying that their language is better, but I hear java guys all the time. And the fact is even that C# has more language features IMO makes it a better language. .Net is more or less the same as the Java API but we have had DateTime objects and a lot of good things, that Java is now copying, for a long time. Just curious on some ideas why Java is better now and forever no matter what times infinity, but why? And if someone is so stupid as to write that Java is the better language without reading this far then that proves my point. ps. I see a lot of people who are hating blur used in UI elements and a lot of people praise the 'death' of gradients, what's everyone else think of these.

I personally love using blur in UI's and do like gradients if done correctly (not 2 colour gradients)

I'm a hobbyist photographer but lately I've been getting offers to work on major gigs. Apparently people have started liking my photography.
However, just like some programmers are hardliners when it comes to particular stacks, the camera world is riddled with brand loyalists that can't accept that anything other than their camera gear is better. You have Canon/Nikon users who can't wrap their minds around the fact that Sony is making better cameras for the price.
I ask a question about what lens people recommend and a flame war starts about why X camera is better than Y camera.
Guess what, it ultimately comes down to the skill of the photographer and not the camera. All I wanted was a lens recommendation for a particular style of shooting.
Thing is, all modern cameras are more than capable of doing their jobs.

If number of people using Pokemon Go tries to learn programming go the world would be much better place to code.

Whenever I go to some major Mastodon server, the explore page contains at least some of the following:

please please please stop being so touchy about your designs/software. The final work is meant to be used/enjoyed by end users, customers, clients, young people, old people, disabled people, short attention span people, irrational people, patient people etc. So if they say it's not good enough accept it go back and make it simpler (not necessarily better but simpler) and move on!!

Stop going into defence mode and start throwing your toys out the pram or giving people the silent treatment.

Know what really grinds my gears? The fact that at many companies, PM's and QA people aren't required or expected to have even a basic level of knowledge, making communication pretty unpleasant. Even having a grasp of relevant vocabulary would make things so much easier.

People are so cheap. I hear people say things like "Frontend Masters is too expensive." I'm pretty sure that I just got 2k of value in the last 3 hours... Maybe those people aren't 'cheap' per say - but more generally, don't understand the concept of value. I'm sure they see that attribute in their clients, but never themselves. Better for me I suppose!

Why people think that Mac is better than pc? Im Mac user and I like Mac. I think Apple just uses better hardware and charges extra for it. If you build windows with better hardware then windows will work really fast too. On Mac gradle build takes really less time because of SSD it does not mean Mac is faster. Get SSD for windows and see the difference yourself.

Had my first evaluation session today, where people use my software for an hour and see if they like it. Mixed feelings.

For one thing there are indeed bugs here and there, but a lot of the things that people say are missing are there! They just didn't see it.

Learning by good examples is a good approach. Learning by bad ones might be even better. The "good ones" are yet to fail and be replaced by better (or worse) ones. The "bad ones" are already failing and you can learn WHY you should not be doing it like that and HOW should you do instead to solve the problem.

Learning from good examples only works well if you know the back-story, all the WHYs and HOWs. People usually don't :)

Code review with some people is emotionally draining. How do you keep encouraging someone to get better without being a dick when the improvement isn't there?

I feel like the better you are technically, the worse you'll fare career wise. I've seen it, people who are really good at software engineering rarely make much money. On the other hand, people who have a 'technical background', and go into management, do far better.

I am starting to learn C++ and I am trying it out on exercism. I am really at the beggining but when I make it work after so much frustration(based on devrant posts I guess that's part of the job) I always see people having shorter/better/more effective codes which makes sense to me but I wouldn't thought of it that way.

The biggest things I’ve probably learned working on side projects are patience and planning. Side projects are a great place to hone your skills of negotiation with other people, but I’ve personally learned a great deal about the process of architecture, simply by doing side projects where I’ve experienced scoping and tooling problems later on. Being patient lends itself to getting better at planning. Working with others on side projects has given me insight into “when to hold em and when to fold em”...and again, this patience education has often helped me be a better planner for a multitude of tasks.

Most humbling thing for me us talking to people who have more experience than me about a problem I have. It's kind of uncomfortable at first knowing you're not that good compared to these guys, but eventually you just realize they were where you were once, asking people better than you for help.

Working at a startup with a small (~4-6) person engineering team usually means those few people are the most in tune with the software. This then usually leads to an onslaught of people who should know better asking devs stupid questions about the software or relying on the devs to do their jobs for them.

Have you encountered these types of situations before? How were they resolved?

If you do not push something (language, education, people, cars, design, medicine ...etc etc) how the hell do you expect to mature, surpass expectations and become better. Java didn't start off as good or as bad as it is today. It was through testing, abuse, use and pushing it harder do more and more amazing things that it wasn't built for. PHP has changed alot since I started using and it's through people efforts that it gets better. Before the javascript wave came it was a nuisance to use and sucked as most browsers had it switched off by default but it's become more secure, fluent and able to do more amazing things and people are loving it right now.
