(Q: How much are you allowed to Google as a developer?)
“You’re allowed to Google as much as you want. This is not school, you’re employed to solve a problem. Nobody cares whether you Google for the answer or remember the answer from another Googling.”15 -
Sometimes when I'm writing Javascript I want to throw up my hands and say "this is bullshit!" but I can never remember what "this" refers to

Remember the Ububtu mobile OS ?
I remember working on the community UI drive for this project. To know that something as awesome as ubuntu would come down into the form factor of a phone , was just ecstatic.
The first build was out , people liked it. People nagged a bit about the performance issues , but it was going fine. Then the second build .. then the third no one heard about and the 4th that never came.
The interface for this system was unique because after Wondows , this is the only other OS developer that embraced the one ecosystem mantra of design.
Using Ubuntu phone was natural , it was a small desktop OS.
I remember logging on to launchpad one day and seeing the Ubuntu mobile channel with it's last post " Thank you and goodbye "
It was heartbreaking , but i could understand. Like windows phone ( which if you guys weren't aware of , had APK support by the end of its lifecycle ) felt crushed under the weight of android and iOS.
Waiting for a day when there will be a third champion in game. I miss having to see Ubuntu being on my phone , but they seem to be doing great in everything else , so good on that. 😄
Ok done .. thanks30 -

At work today. Someone unregistered a domain name (don't remember the exact one) with something funny/positive about beer (for example beerisawesome.com).
Collegue: What?! Why would you unregister this?!?

Boss: well someone's got their priorities fucking wrong.

Last night I was feeling bored so I got an idea and made this app. well in morning even I published this on play store.
It’s a completely useless application where you not supposed to touch anything.

I was coding and drinking this weekend, and I might’ve drank too many. Fast forward two days, there is a box from amazon and inside it was an inflatable sheep. Apparently, I ordered it and I can’t remember why8

You are all beautiful people. Thank you for your unique mix of talents to make for a variety filled platform. I have come to appreciate different parts of the industry due to exposure on this site. Guys i got 1000++!!!
It's not that i'm special now.
Just more special than others.
Oh I remember the old times when devRant veterans like @linuxxx or @Alice posted their first rants and I welcomed them!
I even remember that night I gave @dfox the idea of creating this app! "That's stupid.", he said. "If this app should be succesful I owe you some special kind of duck we will produce for some reasons I don't know yet!", he said.
But for real now: Thanks everybody for being a part of this and for bringing me so much joy!8 -
You might remember this board from my last post...
After weeks and weeks of trying to get this microcontroller to work I finally managed, and of course the problem was that I was being stupid...
Anyway, it now fades an LED on and off! Very fun, now to make a keyboard...11 -
Remember when I said don't launch on a Friday?

Remember to regularly defragment your drives on linux. use this handy command.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=1M
Terminology:
dd: Disk defragment
if: input file (the pattern to search for, and should always be /dev/zero)
of: output file (your disk, /dev/sda for instance)
bs: blocsize 1M is fine here16 -
I remember that time when my girlfriend came to me all excited about this interview she had for a new "awesome" job with React Native.

I just remember this short story:
When I was about 7 or 8 (around 1994), my dad had a computer at his office with MSDOS.
There I'd type "carmen.exe" and it would start "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?" or "pool.exe" would run a 2D Pool game I don't remember the exact name.
And yet, there was a "dolphin.exe" that I always thought it was a game but I never got it running. Obviously I don't remember what was the exact issue but to this day, 20+ years later it still bugs me to know what was this "dolphin.exe" program.4 -

I've been wondering this for a while now, but how are senior programmers able to (or at least seem to) remember all the code for all the different languages with all the different syntax?
Let me explain: From my experience there's usually two types of thinkers, there's the memorizers, and the logical thinkers. Its usually the difference between people good at history and people good at math. So considering that most programmers would need to be able to think logically (to problem solve obviously), how do they remember all this different code? I always forget the small details which I have to look back at earlier code to see how it was done (Especially annoying for written exams where we have to remember all the code and how to use it)7 -
Flexbox.. Where have you been all these years?!
When I initially started learning web development I remember thinking 'someone didn't quite think this through..' about centering block elements etc in the dom. Those days are now over, I still believe in miracles.6 -

I'm not very good in remembering numbers. But I have lots to remember: apartment entrance code, maestrocard pin, phone pin, s few pins at work, and so on. So I remember patterns my finger mskes on a numpad instead [if you have played Ingress, you know exactly how it works].
There is a pattern for a bank card. Another one for phone pin, etc.
I've been using this technique for years... It has never failed me. I never could remember my pins, but give me a keypad and I'll enter it right away.
Last week smth happened. I forgot 2 pins from both of my bank cards... Both at the same day. And I did not have them written down anywhere for years...

Sometimes I become so angry that I can't even be bothered to rant. Later on I don't remember what I was on about to make a rant and gain some virtual points.
Thought this deserves a rant of it's own. -
Another draw I found while cleaning my room. I made this on my last semester of the career at university.
Yeah, another Php. Remember the “Php elephant thong guy”? (Reference to another rant I posted) Here I’m fighting him with several programming languages. I remember that I made this because he only coded on php and jQuery, and I said to him “you’ll need to learn another languages if you want to apply to a new job”.
Which programming languages can you identify?
P.D. I don’t like PHP that much, I’d rather use Python or C#2 -
Most memorable co-worker was a daft idiot.
this was 10 years ago - I was working as a junior in my very first job, fresh out of uni, for a very small startup. It was me, and the 3 founders, for a very long time. Then this old (45, from my perspective then..) dev was hired.
This guy had no idea how to do the job. no common sense. the code confused him. the founders confused him. I was focusing on my work - and was unable to help him much with his. His only saving grace? He was a nice guy. Really nice.
But why was he so memorable, out of all the people I ever worked with? simple. He had a short term memory problem. Could not, even if he really tried, remember what he did yesterday.... when I asked him what his issue was, he decribed his life is like a car going in reverse in a heavy fog. "I can only see a short distance backwards, with no idea where I'm going".
Startup was sold to a big company. I became a teamlead/architect. He? someone decided he should be a PM. -
Did anyone else notice how setting up a letsencrypt.org certificate for a domain became a lot easier as this year went on? Certbot + automatic renewal was set up in four commands on my RasPi, I remember it being more difficult to set everything up 🤔1

I don’t remember the first experience as I was a very small child, but I remember a very defining one: picture a 4yo just casually turning on the computer and playing a game.
My mother and sister find me out and panic because “oh no, turning it off it’s hard how will we do? Your father is working and can’t turn it off!”
Now picture the 4 yo saying “it’s easy, you just do this”, followed by him closing the game, launching the bash command to close the computer and going away.
I must have been so creepy in their eyes 😂2 -

1. Whenever doing freelance work, always take some advance payments, even its for your friends.
2. Use git even if you think it doesn't apply to you. I started really late.
3. Contribute to open source. You grow when the community grows.
4. Be humble even if you are the best there is!
5. Whenever you feel you are tired of this shit, remember why you started. Don't give up!
Most importantly, take time for yourself, family and friends. It won't be lines of code that you remember on your death bed!1 -

I remember the first time I downloaded smth from the internet and was extremely nervous not to fuck anything up. I was young and had just started using a computer. It was a desktop computer with windows xp in our basement, inside kind of its own wardrobe, standalone.
I remember my dad (not very tech-savvy) who told me not to download anything from the internet, as it would surely be a virus, but I was bored of the built-in programs and wanted to try it out. I downloaded a program and was extremely nervous and hoped for no virus. I don't remember what I installed back then (no virus/trojan/etc.😅) but it was this moment I realised I could download anything and wasn't tied to what the OS provided, which led me to be interested in computers in general.
I believe that if I hadn't attempted that download, I wouldn't have become the tech-savvy person that I am today, studying CS... -

Being lazy taught me more about (code) automation that years of study ever did.
“Ugh! Updating translations is boring, why do I have to do this manually?”
“Damn I really hate having to remember endpoints”

I’d love to say this is a motivational speech or something but no, im just lazy lol2 -
Why is it that if you are not able to remember every single detail about something you've heard, that you as a person are deemed worthless?
Everything you do and need in life is bound to your memory.
Can't remember a name?
That's rude.
Can't remember what a technology does?
You won't get that job.
Can't remember the topics you learned about in school?
You won't get that education.
I can't remember things, my mind is constantly drifting. This, together with my inability to articulate myself clearly, makes me a complete nobody.
I hope that someday I'm just able to do something creative and not have these issues. Until then I'll just try not to jump in front of a train.2 -

Their faces after your question - priceless.
Thank again and immediate leave afterwards so they can ask themselves this question till the end of their lives and you will actually feel better and remember their stupid faces that will make you laugh when you’re old.
And yeah everything gonna be probably all right but you need to find better job not same stupid deep shits.1 -

So I have been lurking for quite a while and I am so happy with the reason for downvote radiobox. So many times I almost accidentally downvoted rants with my thumb by simply holding my phone, I can't remember the last time I was this happy with such a feature -
I got travel advertisments on my Windows 10 lock screen. I didn't remember how to get rid of them, so I had to search for it again. I was lead to this piece of fine irony on my screen.
Staring at it felt like staring at the concept of art while it's staring back. This experience left me emotional.
Thank you Microsoft and Windows Central. Thank you art, life, and love. Thank you ads.5 -
Look at this guy. He can barely talk but already be messing with some tech stuff.
I remember myself from the age of five. I remember two things: how they asked me how old I was and I looked at my hand showing all five fingers and that I always knew I’ll be doing something tech when I grow up.4 -
"Did you test it?"
"I can't remember"
For this question, Yes = yes, everything else is no, people just don't get it.1 -
Couldn't remember my password that I have been using several times a day for the past year. I even used it today, but could not consciously remember the code.
So I am going to post it here so I can look it up if I need to: 12345

If you ever need to perform CPR, just remember “Two Trucks Having Sex” song by Lemon Demon and stick to the rhythm. It’s 115bpm, just right for CPR.
At the moment of panic, this song will be with you. I know it.6 -
Do other OP owners have this close all button in the center?
Don't remember if this is there by default or some mod...
I want to move it to the side as I've pressed it a few times by accident....6 -
"What are all the meanings of static in C and C++?"
Not a particularly good question but I think I'll always remember it because of how weirdly specific it is.
(And, anyone who wants to have a go at this WITHOUT Googling, feel free to.)13 -
I have a domain with mailgun and a catch all statment, I don't remember signing up for this but I was apparently mad2

Just
Received the one plus 3T I ordered from there U.S. as it's not sold in S.A.
I don't remember the last time I was this excited about a new phone.
I just love it. The black theme is gorgeous3 -
I find myself saying something along the lines of "This should work." or "That will fixed it" multiple times a day. I can't remember the last time I said that and was right.
-
"Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
This is good to remember this one once in a while...3 -
I remember when this person I worked for suggested all the engineers get on a day long call with the product owner pointing out problems and the engineers fixing them on the call. It was absolute chaos when i told my team 😂
Has anyone else ever encountered such??4 -
Ealier this day, I succesfully guided my young sister over the phone to change the boot order 🙌 (pc wouldn't boot).
Just to find out that she couldn't remember the password 😐2 -
Found this snapshot of the state of webdevelopment in 2012 in one of my old self-study notes/blog drafts. What progress since! Do you remember?14
-
I can't remember the last time I had THIS MUCH FUN developing an Android app! 😳 Have a paper due, but learning RN is actually making this pet project a huge distraction! 😳 This is a whole new world of mobile development 😆, but what if another framework takes it's place 😵. But there's still people who know Angular, and that's widely used...right 😓 and moble dev has never been this easy, so maybe it'll stick around like Node...
who cares... I'M FUCKING LOVING React Native now!!! 😆random javascript newbie development reactjs thoughts awesomeness this is the future react native awesomeness overflow omfg4 -
My father had a PC with Win3.11 where young me was allowed to play solitaire and an educational programs for kids, later on, followed Win98. I was fascinated with this big grey boxes which could do so many things, especially connect you to the Internet where you could find knowledge about EVERYTHING. (Someone remember the "Blinde Kuh" search engine?)
I remember my father connecting the modem with a long cable all the way through several rooms to the TAE-outlet and the weird sounds the device made.
I often heard "Get away from the PC or your eyes will become rectangular!" when I was sitting there for hours over hours reading and playing.
When I was ten, I got my first own computer, a trusty 486er (386 with logical coprocessor! 8MB RAM if I remember correctly. Weeee! :D) which was my uncle's old PC with Win95.
I started writing on the PC and got into several online communities ... it went downhill from there. :D11 -

anyone killed something relevant making this mistake?6 -
Remember how I made script to change brightness with keyboard shortcuts? https://devrant.com/rants/1845183/...
Well, after 2 days of complaining why the fuck this shit does not work anymore, I figured out I deleted it...also from trash.... OH, FUCK!!!3 -
I remember debugging a large C++ application a while back. I had been doing quite a bit of backtracking when I found myself looking at a line of code commented with "this is the code you are looking for". Scary.1

Dear Windows,
Why can't you FUCKING remember my choice to "Open folder to view files"? WHY BOTHER asking every single time I plug in a USB if you can't be fucked to remember what I say?? Why is this even an issue?3 -
Awesome wallpaper of devrant...
I don't remember who gave me the link of this wallpaper

Remember kids: the more space a compression algorithm saves, the slower it is to deflate/inflate!

Sometimes I get so excited about doing something that I'm genuinely happy. But when the initial high fades and I'm ten layers of complex code problems deep I always remember how useless I really am
Oh but this time it's gonna be different.

Day 1 of migrating the entire companies infrastructure to GCE...
Thought It wouldn't be too difficult migrating the db until I found out the 480 triggers and 42 stored procedures are a no go.
I mean I know they right and the db layer should be about storage only - I even remember thinking "This is a bad idea" when I wrote most of them but fuuuck it's going to take weeks to refactor this. :'( -
Love writing comments, hate writing documentation.
Ugh, I know it is needed but just don't care about it as much as the code/comments which is a more direct 'here is what this does' approach. Writing idiot proof documentation sucks. Any little change? Have to remember to update the docs. Yeah, not happy.1 -
I had this dream lastnight and all I remember is typing:

Into a terminal. I want to know why I needed to delete the folders xD3 -

Just found an old project where I tried getting a version of ubports to boot up as an AVD... Fuck me I really wish I could remember how I was going to do this...

Student: Hey will you be a reference for me?
Me: Of course!
HR: Hello, Student says you are a reference for them. Please fill out this form.
Form: 20 long answer questions.
Sometimes I regret my decisions. I am a perfectionist, so this form will take me an hour to fill out haha. This is definitely a reason why I don't say yes to every student who asks for a reference, and only those who actually make me remember them.2 -
I was going to post a rant about something, but was in the middle of something so thought I'll post it later.
Now I can't remember what it was.
Also, this is not the first time this has happened :/2 -
I always confuse `for..in` with `for..of` and have to look up their respective meaning. Again.
It drives me crazy.
Do you have any mnemonic on this? How do you remember the difference?
(Now, as in this very moment, I know that for..in is for looping over keys of an object and for..of for looping over iterators. But tomorrow I will have forgotten it again.)10 -
Lol I remember deleting half a production database 6 months into this job. Now a little under 2 years my boss lets me do whatever the fuck I want as long as my quality of work stays high and I complete a regular number of jira tasks a week4

Remember this : https://devrant.com/rants/1547095/... ?
FINALLY some updates.
Just to say they deleted the branch I was trying to merge on during the month, so I need to redo the pull request and rebase.

I guess this is gonna be one of those days where I have to re-read a paragraph over and over until I finally remember something. I'm just trying to learn D: Why won't you let me brain?

While I really like the design of this website (and the app), the website kinda feels like the light version comparing to the app. Deleting rants is not possible for some reason. It doesn't remember your preferred sorting algorithm12

Stopped studying DSA and for coding interviews, they legit rejected me even tho I did all questions right. Wtf is wrong with hiring.
I remember this another bastard asked me only DSA for a frontend job. :) he didn't ask me to give an intro even a straightaway question.15 -
I managed to remember some old Bitwarden (password manager service, I remember that linuxxx recommended me this one a looong time ago) credentials, so I logged in. I found an old devRant account - not my first though (I deleted it).
I've been a random lurker all this time (this is the first dev community I've been and I'm not planning to leave it until it dies), and it's good to login just to give my 2 cents.
I love you all. Seriously. I love you all with every single bit of my heart (get it?), impartially. Thanks for existing.
Here's an interrupted "caramelCase posted a new rant!"; it's actually longer but a wild guy ++'d my comment.
p.s: seeing my avatar, I don't use c++ anymore. I've just grew with Python haha10 -
Is it just me, or does everybody regularly have to hit F5 on YouTube after the first 3-6 seconds when it stops playing? I have this in one out of 4 videos I think. hugely annoying
The weird thing about it is that I remember YouTube having this bug for a few months back in 2013 or so (hence the 'is it just me'? )1 -
While you're typing and you remember this is not the correct password for this account but you're too lazy to backspace all that state of the art you just wrote so you just ENTER the shit out of that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I remember on my first project which was Angular 1.* there was a file in the frontends repo called ShimOfShame.
The first few lines of that file was a comment apologising for its existence.
"My soul cries everytime i add a line to this file"5 -
Not the first I used a computer, but I remember playing this game called Dave. Oh god, brings back memories. My parents used to tell me it's virus. 😂2

I am amazed this is still going.
I remember Google showing results for this for most technical questions. My experience encountering a paywall.
Stack Exchange may be very unfriendly to use, but it is miles better than this.2 -
My iPhone is called “Beyond”. I can’t remember why. When my friends added me to their iMessage, I was listed there as “Beyond”. In a way, this name is associated with me.
That being said, you should taste Beyond Meat.6 -
*thinking to myself*
Would it be faster to try to guess/remember the correct syntax and type out this line of code, or search for it on Google, then copy and paste it?1 -
Sometimes when I'm writing Javascript I want to throw up my hands and say "this is bullshit!" but I can never remember what "this" refers to
-
Lol. Just discovered I still have my account. Created this account when I was like 15. Feels crazy to look at this. Haven't been online for years... I still remember reading through this when I was in school. Now I'm studying in university. Guess it's time to go now?2

Every other week I'll be doing something dumb (think, writing an essay), and I'll say "This is so monotonous, surely I can automate it!" Then I get really excited, for about twelve seconds before I remember that it's not gonna happen1

There we go again...
I can't remember how many times I saw something like this. It seems like ignorance already become a new standard in IT recruit world😎
Should I give a thumbs up just for daring to ask?! -
So remember when we said 1.1 would be the last release, and then we said that 1.2 would be the absolute last we promise this time release?
Well buckle up buckaroos because 1.3 will be the last release. -
Unless you are an analyst who deals with a lot of information*, your relatively simple computer programs should not require hundreds of megabytes of RAM. For the love of God, please remember this.
*“Big data” sounds stupid.7 -
When a programmer gets a hangover
"I am going to get a new shirt()"
"That shirt is #ffffff"
"Do remember to #include<studio.h> this item in your to-do list" -
I remember when I first heard about the general concept of a stack, I wasn't quite sure how you would use it.
Now im learning about stacks in java algorithms class as well as learning about how the memory stack works in assembly class. This probably seems small to you pro devs, but ngl, it kinda blew my mind how useful this structure can be.1 -
I use this little guy as a rubber ducky now. He's useful when I'm trying to study stuff which is particularly hard to remember.5
-
From an early age as far as I can remember I always used to break/open stuff - that my parents bought for me - such as.. small electronics or it could be even a stressball 😂 to find out what was inside or how it worked. This habit of extreme curiosity, somehow ended me up in programming.4

Tired to find out how to apply for an MNC Internship ?

Last year my boss decided to outsource a project I did the year before to another company.
Now he wants my opinion on why this company estimates 10h to do an upgrade on a API interface I did on that project.
Like I remember details on what I did two years ago. And like I have any idea how this company is rigged to handle the project. -
The first time I got in contact with computers I apperantely sorted all of the Desktop Icons by color, since I couldn't read at the time.
The first thing I actually remember is playing this game: "Knightmare". Loved it 😍 -
My TL has his custom rules to format code, we use python and black as formatter, still, We have to remember his rules. He forced us to mention type rather than compiler do it for us. Our pr will not be approved until we do this.
My point is if you want to follow this then forced it programmatic way, event better use a language which gives this all by default. why we should remember all of these rules. Other team members are also doing the same and I hate those pr comments like there should be two empty lines or the type is missing. He never listens to any of us and takes it on his ego.1 -
Was googling some preprocessor tricks for C++ and I came across this:

I now remember what I was supposed to do this weekend.... (Read a Spring boot book)
Too late now... Spent most of the weekend playing scrabble instead.... Not sure why though...1 -
"Show list of people not affiliated with Creed".
found this on a work breakdown I made. HAHA this isn't related to my project right now. Can't even remember writing this. lol -
Yo, remember when @Alice parodied the millenial 404 message? It was hilarious, but now it's gone :c
Has anyone saved it by any chance? I don't want this to be lost forever, it was too good :c3 -
How far back do you remember of the things exhibited in this “museum” of the Internet?
https://neal.fun/internet-artifacts...
For me, it’s mostly stuff beginning at or a little before 1992.4 -
Why is it such a pain when I have to install all my external modules of Python for PyCharm? JetBrains products are cool, but this,... literally had to remember all the modules from scratch.1

Am I crazy? A while ago I SWEAR I remember someone mentioning deep blue having a free student account program... am I making this up?1

What web application can a programmer build or ways can I do this ?

Dear devRant, "Remember Me" means, keep me logged in for longer than the lifetime of this tab. Or is that checkbox decorative?
(Yes, I also use the app)2 -
When I was 2 years old my grandfather sat me down in front of his desktop and he taught me to play games load software and go on the internet. I remember playing this Atari emulator a lot and a lot of other children games I loved at the time.

!rant Just letting it out !
From my childhood days I never used to make it a habit to remember our house address as we used to change it often.
My father was the eldest in our family and he took care of his siblings. One younger brother got a nice job and was financially sound to own a house, and we were still a joint family for some time. After a year or so my father was insulted and he moved out in a fit of rage and for ~20 years we have hopped around from one place to another.
This week I will be moving in to my new house along with my parents. Hope I will remember this address forever. -
Fuck man! Let ME communicate with the other devs who worked on this project. I know you mean well, but when you can't remember the difference between Java and JavaScript, you aren't going to be able to effectively communicate technical details back and forth.
-
do you guys make a temp copy of every single object and/or variable you ever use? ive gone thru a few projects in this company and our code has so much of this. I cant remember now if there is even a good reason to do it like that. you can end up with a lot of copies! haha!8

Remember the rant, where I said, that I installed KDE next ho unity?? 😂 😂. Well now my xorg is crashed :( gonna reinstall everything xD but this time, I start with KDE xD

I remember when I first graduated, I could only find job opportunities where companies wanted Mid to Senior levels. Now, 4 years later, I can only find job opportunies for Senior level devs.
Fuck this market so much, why did I had to like programming.9 -
I actually debugging a feature i made..

so every time i am happy, but like really happy and everything in the day goes very well, i am thankful for being alive and truly love life etc, at the end of that day or the next day something hits me and i fall into depression because i remember all the problems i was ignoring while being happy. this has actually happened a lot of times so every time i am really happy i automatically remember how is this temporary happiness gonna end, so i try hard not to be happy in order to avoid deeper depression later. and whats the point of living if ur not happy?4 -
Oh... You maybe remember this rant: https://devrant.com/rants/5509306

Dear genie, make me take more notes. My brain is overconfident and thinks (hah) it can do/remember more than 1 thing at once. It's just a whole lotta "Hey, this is the solution to your problem! Also, look at that butterfly! By the way, I have no idea what the solution could be."4

I think i was like 7 or 8 yo. When school vacation started, my mom joined me in this computer centre near her workplace.
I belive it was a Windows 95 system powered probably by Pentium 2 and i remember playing Aladdin, mario and a fun racing car game.
I remember i liked a lady teacher there and being scared of the male teacher from whom I learned about basic computer peripheral terms like CPU, floppy disc drive etc. -
Our first computer ran MSDOS. All I remember about it is playing "Wolf 3D" and this platform game I cannot recall the name of where you were in a land made of sweets. I could never remember the commands to start the games. Me and my Dad played Wolf and could never get past the guards with machine guns. My Mum used the PC for "word processing", I think she carried her work around on 5 inch floppy disks.3

How many people can say they've read just about every rant posted? I remember when I first started I didn't have much to do and read all the way back, now I feel as though I've committed myself to this and refuse to miss any rants!

Not sure if I'm sick or I'm actually in my full sense ....
I reached a point that I'm sick of all that million language to work with, maintain lots of shit, and started to consider using Flutter and get it done.
But I still don't like to build on these things because well, for the lots of trouble I went through in React Native, and yet again in Flutter having to modify several plug-ins because they don't support a simple feature as simple as Authentication header
I thought I'd give SwiftUI a go, but for a starter:
1. No pull to refresh
2. No proper grid (aka UICollectionView)
3. Comparing SwiftUI with Flutter, Google did a better job at keeping things simple
4. Only iOS 13+ supports SwiftUI, their statistics might show 90% using latest update, but that's their target audience, mine might be 90% not on latest update ...
Just some midnight thougts filled with frustration and wondering: How do web developers keep up with those "look ma! I made a new JS Framework!!" their life must be tougher .... -
I got a request on LinkedIn to endorse a past hard-working colleague of mine, but honestly, the only thing I remember about them is that they used to hang a hand-written sign over their cubicle that simply said:
if (!pain){
gain = null;
}
Is writing this a compliment?6 -
I have been wondering about this for the whole week, but I don't remember any dev sin... or I don't want to remember it

I sadly don't remember who set this up and posted it on devRant (give me a distro) but it seems to be down :/
Would be glad to host it again if needed, I think it is a great idea. ^^5 -
Holy fuck, after 1 month of not using my pc and no coding I look at the project I was working on and it looks like chinese, I don't understand anything, so step 1 it's gonna be trying to remember how this thing worked (caveman brain turned on)5

I remember using opencv already
and i remember tori and i discussing that the video frames are in what i later read as mat format.
and i remember thinking ..'sigh, whats the use'.
i wish i could have enjoyed the last number of years not pumped the strength out of my body just trying to survive and retain some semblance of intelligence meanwhile.
its a waste of time.
all of this, a complete waste of time and always has been.
and there is noone trustworthy to tell me what to do. noone who means anything but harm to everything and everyone.10 -
Another bout of distro hopping, this time back to Debian.
Just need to remember to keep my laptop and pc more or less in sync in terms of software and versions etc3 -
Shits ridiculous
So much of my goddamn time wasted
Perfect idea really
Gradually grab all pixel locations that fit space constraints
Remember finishing this script and watching the areas populate
Purpose ? Extract shapes to feed my damn neural network for custom character recognition
So much goddamn time wasted
Bastards I hate you all !3 -
I can't remember the results of this thing I'm writing well enough to know whether its a pointless thing to do.3

I've been thinking about something I saw a while ago, but I can't remember the name so I came to this marvellous place to ask: what do you call live code editing?
E.g. When you're running your program and can change the code on the fly without restarting your program. I'm sure this is application-specific, but I've seen it done with the godly Java.3 -
Just woke up and this is the only phrase that I can remember.
Here it goes.
Tom stands for Tom Holland the airport hero that I passed by at the age 7.1 -
I think here the CS degree/experience just gives you training basically to pass this technical interviews which has been a constant problem because 99% of the work you actually do, you ain't gonna need it. (I don't work at big tech companies but pretty sure it's the same, have to be very Senior and leading a project before you really need to think about this stuff?)
I don't have a CS degree unfortunately, completely self taught, but that experience while "impressive" to interviewers doesn't seem to matter much when do how do you implement a red black tree or quick-sort.
I may know the difference in general but I don't fucking care to remember the details as YAGNI... If rather remember the things I need every day -
Let's exclude some files from our coverlet coverage test!
Sure! That's easy, just remember to pass this super short, understandable, and rememberable command-line argument:

You're fucking kidding me, right?
It's 2022 and tools are still using PowerShell syntax... just kill me1 -
One thing that I hate.
I don't remember having ever used Facebook to login into Quora. Yeah, you might say I did, but still I find it treacherously insane that they do this kind of linking with my information.2 -
