There's a spending machine in my job that uses a tablet with an app as the interface. I downloaded Spotify, put some music and switch back to the app. It's funny to see the people trying to find where the music came from.15

My mom is trying to convince me that being good at Latin is more important than knowing how to program / spending time learning it.15

The way most of us devs are spending time on devRant, it seems @dfox might need to introduce a feature named "Reminder" in the app to let devs know that they need to get back to code.1

I'd say VIM, but I end up spending the day customizing my .vimrc file instead of actual productivity.2

Two years ago I was making like $500 a month and couldn’t manage it properly so sometimes I couldn’t even afford to eat.
Now I open my banking app and it puts smile on my face.3 -
I don't hate Java, seriously.
I just prefer spending my first hours with a language actually programming in it rather than fixing shitty uninformative errors and learning libraries that follow no standards.
Pour your salt below.15 -
Wanted a quiet day at work this Monday so updated my development laptop to Ubuntu 16.04. Ended up spending the whole day fixing it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯5

NEW TALES FROM THE FUCKING CRYPT. It's disgusting...
... how managers keep to invest money into totally useless gadgets at the company to keep themselves motivated with stupid toys, tech and gear. WHY in fucks name would you not spend the money on hiring more devs and a dev consultant?
It's funny how they presented the stats first: "yea well we have ten big projects in dev right now" (we are FIVE FUCKING PEOPLE, tells you everything, right) "... BUT WE HAVE BOUGHT NEW SCOOTERS FOR THE COMPANY!".
Ok... why though? Who would actually use those things except the ones that bought them. Just another way of spending more money to reduce the promised employee return on the company's profit...2 -
Programmers hell, spending an eternity being told every little coding error you made and every stupid little thing you missed.2

Anyways, came full circle now can somebody hand me more toilet papers, please? 🚽10 -

I don't get government spending on education programs for coding. What's the point? Affirmative action?4

That and not pursuing a PhD.2 -
Have few close friends, not a swarm of people.
Saves time.
And keeps strong bonds with people that really matter.
Spending some "quality social time" is more valuable than shitload hours of fake fuckery with dumbfucks.
Just my opinion. -

It’s taken me 20 years to realize that I love tech but hate corporate IT. The thought of spending another 20+ years sitting in meetings listening to people drone on about nonsense, spending countless hours performing system upgrades when all I want to do is code, etc. just makes me sick to my stomach. It’s the same day over and over again.2
-
Nothing makes me want to work on my own projects more than spending 40 hours a week trying to solve problems in the boring behemoth of legacy code that is my company's app. Doing everything myself seems downright peaceful in comparison.

Quick Java question.
Does spending £200 on Oracle certification raise your job market value?
Or is it just a pointless money maker for Oracle.3 -
Spending 30 minutes of my life searching for the bug that triggers database update events, doesn't update the value. Turns out that I've always put the dame value in it. ARRGGGGHHH!

Can't every task or bugfix not be a goddamned Chesterton's Fence exercise...
Seriously I feel like I'm spending more time divining what the ancestors might've thought of when they wrote their code.
A byproduct of lazy commit messages.2 -
Working. Finding a bug. Quick-fix. New bug. New bug. New bug. Spending 1 hour looking for Quick easy solution. Getting distracted with a more complicated solution. Spending 1 hour researching. Back to problem, one more hour bruteforcing the problem. Finding it was just about a configuration problem. Fix in 5 minutes. Repeat everyday.1

Spending over an hour trying to implement module X wondering why it doesn't work. Then see there is a deprecated/defunt/broken statement at the page of module X

Been using a really useful third party library for over a year now. Been great. Until I wanted to do one thing programatically which wasn't possible and without spending a fair bit of time editing this version of the library.
The new version of the library does what I want. But it changes how everything else interacts with it.
Feeling really down about spending ages working that out and then realise I still have another few days of integration at least. </rant> -
