I recently learned why you shouldn't delete your linux partition by just pressing the 'delete volume' button.
I currently own a SP3(i7, 256gb).
I got bored of windows and installed Linux Mate. It ran quite fast and snappily. All was good.
Then I looked on the internet. Apparently fedora runs really well on the SP3. So I deleted my Linux partition by pressing 'delete volume'.
Turns out, thats a bad idea. Grub was in that partition, so when I restarted my tablet, it booted into the 'grub rescue>' prompt.
After messing around, I finally found that pressing the Volume Down button and power button at the same time seemed to boot into my Fedora Live USB.
All the while, I was quite worried I'd lost all of my assignments(I knew I could have used the minitool of gparted live cd).
Finally I got it to install, and all was good again. Has anyone else made this mistake?7 -

I deleted Facebook Inc.'s products long time ago, deleted YouTube app, removed Quora account, put filters on suggestions for Stack Exchange networks, blocked Reddit, stopped Spotify, started Trello/Wunderlist/Evernote to organise thoughts, ForestApp and StayFocusd for controlled browsing, deleted Tumblr etc. All this just to focus on the report and get it done as soon as possible.

Came back from vacation today to find out that some FUCKTURD PIECE OF SHIT deleted my virtual server!! Tried to find any traces on who that SHITFACED NUTSACK was without luck. This server is hosting several websites, some having files and data stretching over more than 10 years! Spent the day praying to GOD that my equally old backup scripts had run and where the FLYING FUCK those files were saved. Luckily the script had worked and I found a recent backup so now I can start the restore process on another machine. But still. WTF!!??6

MySQL databases beginning with "test" in the name gives even people without login full access to its tables.
Somebody deleted all tables so we had to get a backup from out hoster.

So we found an interesting thing at work today...
Prod servers had 300GB+ in locked (deleted) files. Some containers marked them for deletion but we think the containers kept these deleted files around.
300 GB of ‘ghost’ space being used and `du` commands were not helping to find the issue.
This is probably a more common issue than I realize, as I’m on the newer side to Linux. But we got it figured out with:

Why Microsoft, why.
We have our own Powershell Scripts to delete unwanted apps that are installed from Microsoft on Windows 10, like XBOX app.
I installed a new workstation for a new worker and deleted the apps with the scripts.
The Day the new worker arrived, it was my task to give him an introduction, what Programs we are using and so on.
Worker logs into machine and opens Startmenu.
All Apps that I have deleted with the scripts are back!
Why, you ask. Because Microsoft made it so, that when a new user logs in on a machine he has never been before, every single apps that has been deleted is reinstalled.
I'm searching for a method to shut this down for good.
Help is much appreciated.5 -

I never really used Facebook but I did use Instagram until around a month ago when GDPR kicked in and they asked every user about their age. For shits and giggles I entered "1 year old" which was followed by the app crashing every time I open it and on the web site a message like this:
"You are too young to use Instagram. You will have 14 days until your account gets deleted. If you think we made a mistake you can send us your personal id."
As if I sent anything personal to FB on purpose! Then so it be, I said. I downloaded my data (images and account details) and after two weeks I couldn't login anymore and I checked on a friend's phone within Instagram: My account was gone.
NOW LOOK WHAT I GOT TODAY:
A NEWSLETTER from Instagram! "Check out new posts by X, Y and 8 others!"
Now, these aren't new... I would get these emails when I havent logged in for a while. But seriously? My accounts should be GONE!
Sooo I logged in again. And when I tried I got this (freely translated):
"Apparently, you requested to delete this account. For more information, visit the help area: http://help.instagram.com/ (403) (/accounts/login/ajax/)"
So that's it. Yeah sure, "deleted". I didn't request the delete, Instagram did so on it's own. So it doesn't even listen to it's own commands...

Frigging corporate antivirus updated its definitions and decided a class generated by Gradle on my debug builds is an infection risk. And as it's an intermediate output and it's deleted and recreated every time, it sends a new alert every time. And sometimes it can't quarantine it because it's deleted faster than it's processed by the antivirus, so it's getting a higher and higher risk level each time. And I can't add it to the exclusion list because of a permissions issue. Oh well...6

Guys, just a quick update on the ability to delete default apps on iOS 10 since Apple is not saying much, I've just deleted all the defaults and gained around 0.38GB in total, it would appear that some of the Apps aren't in fact deleted but are just hidden from the home screen (which would explain the lack of a size being given on the App Store)1

I don’t know why/how, but some guy in my team put the node_modules folder on GitHub.
This person ran *npx create-react-app* and for whatever reason probably DELETED the .gitignore.
I had to fix it of course, and in the meanwhile I forgot to switch branches before changing everything, making git crash because switching branches with +4 million lines of code deleted was too much.

I started working on a new file on my project. After I finished working on the project I started doing something which didnt worked out. So I deleted the local version of the repo since the repo was backed up on the server. But the file that I completed last night was not yet added to the repo.1 -
Client calls and rants about that he lost mails. He deleted them and says they are now gone. His previous hoster didn't delete trashed mails and he always looked them up inside of it. We told him that this is how our server works. It deletes deleted mails. And we obviously didn't transfer old deleted mails.

I deleted all the changes, and the fault was mine, of course.1 -
Thank god my 1 day works got saved, I made new folders and transfered few files in those folders,
And then when I got done I deleted it from the side bar view in sublime text. Later on I saw one of new folder and nothinf was there my heart went down, then I thought.
Wait I right clicked it and deleted it. Then quickly rushing my clicks towards recycle bin.
and my breath came back it was there :D -
I deleted Instagram and Facebook recently and I realized that "The social Dilemma" is real. Instagram started sending me regular emails which I've never received when I had the app. This explains so much!6

I have realised this the hard way. Never ever ever delete something if it’s backed up in cloud and is not taking space in your device, just to free some space.
Obviously some bullshit is better deleted. But never overdo it. You never know when you are going to want the thing you have deleted.
I have 2 regrets. Both related to deleting things without backup. But in my defence, I forgot that they were not backed up. Brain freeze.3 -

I believe that without competition, YouTube would likely ban re-uploads entirely.
YouTube thankfully tolerates re-uploads of deleted videos because it knows that the minute they prohibit re-uploads, competitors like Dailymotion and BitchUte would get immediate massive growth.
There are entire channels dedicated to re-uploading deleted videos of specific channels! (for example: https://youtube.com/channel/... )

Beware of Open XChange web mail client! It's so utterly buggy that when you empty the deleted mail folder, you lose all newly created folders as well...along with any of their content. INCREDIBLE CRAP!2

First week of work as a fresher, had to run my code on the server, compiled them on my system and moved them to the server, they weren't running, tried a lot to find the problem, then in frustration and haste deleted a few other important files on the server. Then realised the architectures of my system and the server were different. FML
PS: restored the deleted files from backup, so it's cool now -

Devs are divided on gitlab blunder, some appreciate their honesty and transparency while other are either cursing them or grateful that they didn't use it. But think like this :
You own a MacBook and you love it like your baby, if someone drops it, there is good probability it won't break but it will sure give you a fucking heart attack. You won't ever let that person touch your MacBook.
Gitlab just did that. They scared the hell out of the developers.
