Just noticed YouTube got inspired by porn video sites and now they are showing very short preview of video on thumbnail hover.

Nice but not that useful feature for non porn video site.

I finally built a new PC with 8GB memory, i7 4790K and SSD for OS.

My old system was a core2duo with 2GB memory. Android studio used to take 20mins for gradle sync and another 20min for signing apks. "Live preview" and "emulator" was a thing of the future for me. Never used it.

But now things have changed. This thing boots up in less than 5 sec and studio gradle takes less than 30sec. I'm so happy right now! Its like a dream come true! *cries in happiness*

This is my first IoT project. It's pretty simple, but I've been very happy with the results thus far.

About this time last year, someone got into our garage and rifled through my wife's car.

I have a camera in my garage, and a Phillips Hue motion detector. Using the Hue's excellent API, I have a perl script that checks for motion every couple of seconds, and starts capturing from the camera via RTSP if it does. That video is then staged, ready to be uploaded to a digital ocean droplet if I click on a link in the mailgun-powered email that's then sent to me and my wife, along with a preview GIF of the video, created through the same ffmpeg process that pulled the capture from the camera.

Stop using wordpress as CMS, its a blog engine. Nothing great has every been written on top of wordpress and never will. Starting 2017 i will start a counter and rape every 10th Wordpress which gets abused as cms i encounter into oblivion on their 0,99$ webhosting shit.

I told my friend that he could preview links on his phone by hovering his finger over it.

He's still trying to get it to work.

Had the Windows Insider Preview for a month or so to get Ubuntu Subsystem early back when it was Insider-only.

Turns out that your license policy changes when you use Preview builds: if your PC isn't updated to a certain build by checkpoints set throughout the year, your license expires and you have to reinstall Windows. No way to recover anything already on the device. So if you get Insider Preview and shut your laptop off for too long...

Thus began a killer combo attack on my Surface Pro 3.

While trying to figure out what was going on and loading up a recovery on a flash drive, the Surface Pro 3 BIOS was sitting idle behind me. On 100% CPU. The only reason I think this is that by the time I noticed the insane fan noise, the screen was hot enough to burn my finger as I tried to turn it off. The heat sensor triggered it to shut off before I could, though.

That heat sensor, however, won't turn it off if it's busy installing Windows, supposedly to keep anything from getting hopelessly corrupted. What followed we're 3 hours of fan whirring from a slab of metal hot enough to cook an egg with.

Windows is back and working. The battery indicator, however, melted during reinstallation. And the battery lasts an hour, max. Thankfully I'm not out of a tablet, but it seems to me that W10 is becoming more and more like malware, just waiting for you to activate one of it's delightful payloads.

6 months ago:

Boss: We have this idea to improve our onboarding to avoid drop off in the new app. See this section here? Were going to take that out of the onboarding and just let them pass straight through to the app. Then when they get into the app, there will be a banner telling them they should go to settings and set this up. That way they can ignore it for a while and get into the app sooner

Me: Get into the app sooner to do what?

Boss: Explore it

Me: Explore an empty app with no content, as they are a brand new user with nothing setup? While theres a big banner on the screen saying "You have insecure settings" ... basically forcing them to do it straight away anyway?

Boss: Yeah, we can give them some recommendations or something while they click around. It will be good. This is months away anyway, we'll talk again

Yesterday:

Boss: So this weird unexpected thing happened. We showed some beta users our plans to remove this section from onboarding and they felt weird about it. They said they didn't like the idea of the banner telling them they haven't set it up correctly

Me: Thats not weird, I said the same thing 6 months ago

Boss: ......... oh, really?

Me: Yep. Its not an improvement to get them through onboarding quicker, just to tell them they have to now go do it somewhere else

Boss: ... right. Ok maybe we'll build it anyway and see how they feel with it in there hands?

Me: nope

Boss: ... what do you mean?

Me: We are behind, you've asked me 3 times in the last week if we are going to be able to get everything in on time ... and now you want me to build something that everyone, apart from you, says they don't like. So realistically, i'm going to build it, and then remove it next week ... and we'll have a discussion about what has to be dropped because of this

Boss: ........ right .... ok .... hhhmmm

Me: *sits with resting bitch face*

Boss: ... maybe we can hide the banner until later. Not show it to them until they've done something in the app?

Me: ... maybe we can not do any of this?

Me: Ok heres what we'll do, so long as it doesn't delay me getting the designs I need, feel free to have the designer mock up what it would look like using that figma on device preview thing. If users say they like it, i'll build it

Not really a fired moment because it was a university project.

A colleague of mine decided it'd be nice to set placeholder images to Hitler wearing a hello Kitty Nazi uniform. Oh without telling anyone, of course.

I go into the lab that a couple lecturers share, one of them was interested in the project we were working on and to our surprise the placeholder images pop up. I immediately say sorry, I didn't set that image and the guy looks at me with judging eyes.

Same guy has to take meds daily otherwise he acts up, not sure what it was he had, may have been ADHD, anyways we were staying late and he forgot his meds, and while our client is in the same room this guy starts doing the macarana behind the room separator, while we're supposed to give him a live preview of what we had accomplished in three months of work. Needless to say he didn't see him dancing like a moron but wow :/ learn to control yourself.

Same guy also never commented his code and used the two letter variable principal because it's such a great idea >.> Me and the other guy spent 6 hours rewriting his code, which should have been less time but he wasn't there to help nor was he available to yell.. I mean ask for help.

I hate University group projects....

Hello! A tiny update on the privacy site thingy. (linuxxx here yas).

I've finished the preview page (description of what will be on the site really) and slowly preparing for deployment.
In the mean time, since @ewpratten is very busy at the moment, I'm giving the frontend part a shot myself! Working on the general layout/presentation right now and I will show a preview as soon as I have anything solid enough to show :).

Also working on the custom CMS which is going well!

I am kind of hestitant to publish the preview page because I am not a frontender and I know that I'll get all criticism on here so please, please go easy on me! Also, just in general, if you find any kind of flaws in the web app or wherever, please report them to me! As for frontend, I won't fix anything because I've got bigger priorities (like creating the actual site itself xD) but general feedback would be appreciated :). And as I said, I'm a backender so don't judge me too hard on the frontend!

Alright now let's gather some courage to actually publish this thing 😅

The client supports both CLI and GUI modes.

This is the CLI mode using the rant command.

CLI mode currently supports dynamic importing of custom commands (and creating your own command is documented already too).

Also, the command execution, import, and registration process all send events to the application object. This is in preparation for allowing mods!

Unfortunately, emojis are technically 2-width, so they totally fuck up the box I draw around the rant. Lots of work to do, but I was pleased with my first visual payoff today.

Android Studio, could you please, pretty please, pleaaaasssse update my drawables on the layout preview when I change them? Or, at least, if I change 10 images, update all of them, or none. Don't choose randomly what to do with them. It's really unnerving.

Microsoft is releasing a first Visual Studio for Mac preview and is also joining the Linix foundation. Good to see Microsoft finally serious about the opensource community.

I am working on a DEVRANT TOOLBOX for the Firefox Desktop Browser.
It includes a dark mode and some new functions (autoreload, colored notifs, image preview on mouseover).
The Alpha version is finished.

As a first step I created an experimental version just for the dark mode (no other functions).
Its alpha and experimental, so I will not not published it.

I need some testers for it. My email is temporary available in my users profile for that.

Game is underway in unreal engine!

Been doing the art for a ridiculously long time, got help from many people! All sorts of suggestions, and great ones too! I've used paint dot net because it is reliable, Im not a great digital artist but can do a decent job!
So what's happening now is that I'm working on the maps and going to start on the character design tonight.
I have less than a month to get a huge portion done but I hope I execute it at an international standard! :D

I freaking hate it when people call me to fix their 9 gazillion dollar ultra extreme enthusiast alien technology pc just so they can play a a god damn freaking son of a damn bloody bitchy fb game on 9000 fps in 4k while some people struggle to have 6 tabs open at the same time so they can code+compile+preview+consult the interwebs. Freelance project I was working on was deployed. Without my knowledge. At 11pm. Their in-house "tech guy" thought that the preview build i gave them was good enough for deployment. Massive bug, broke their api endpoints.
Got a call at 2 in the morning,asking for a fix. I told them how it was their fault and the App they deployed had TESTING written right on the main screen.
They promised additional payment to get me to fix it asap.
Went through the commit history (thank goodness their tech guy knew git, fuck him for committing on production though) and the crash reports.
Removed three lines. All became right with the world again. 😎

Going to love this new features. Hope it's any stable and will give other options instead of just Ubuntu.

So I fucked up.. I assigned a small wordpress/woocommerce project to myself to avoid my team members from wasting their time on it. I had a two month deadline, which was insane, so I kept postponing it until I forgot about it. Today my client contacted me by email to ask if she could preview the site before our meeting in two weeks..
QUE BULLSHIT EXCUSE:

- “I had to migrate to another server because of some access/permission issues with my current host. They gave me their word that they would be done with the migration thursday or friday, then I have to correct some permissions and database settings, and the DNS update may take up to 24 hours to finish. I will personally make sure that you know as soon as the migration has finished.”

- “Thank you so much! I feel so safe having assigned your company the job! I am really looking forward to our meeting and seeing the site!”

Oh and did I mention that deadline was around 65 days ago? And that I haven’t even started yet? I know what I’ll be doing for the next 6 days..

Asked client to send me the icon pack he wants for his website via email. He then sends me a screenshot of the icon's pack preview image via Skype.

Trust me, I tried very hard to explaining what he had to do. No success.

I am always shocked how many people at work are not able to use Google efficently. No matter if experienced developers or graduates. They are not able to limit search results to a certain period of time, search in certain pages, for certain file types and so on. EVERY FUCKING search result gets clicked, although you can already see in the preview that it's absolute crap and not relevant at all. I could cry sometimes and the worst part is, that many of them don't want any help or suggestions.

Checking the color of the SOD doesn't change how I feel about it Windows.

Sort of a meeting, sort of an informal interview, I've dialled in from the home office and my audio setup includes a standalone mic and some noise cancelling headphones. It's going really really well when all of a sudden I see something in the preview window of my webcam feed.
Behind me, looking very concerned and confused is my 73 year old Nanna who'd decided to pop in and see me as she was passing by.
It's common for me to keep the front door locked, but my Nanna has an emergency key and knows I don't always hear a knock at the door, so let herself in.
So she's now in the house, calling out to me and she can hear me talking, so follows the sound of my voice thinking maybe I'm on the phone. Walks right into the office, where the door is behind me, eventually puts two and two together to work out that I can't hear her and finally sees herself on my monitor. She panics and goes to hide in the corner of my office, almost underneath my workbench because she's old and doesn't know where she would or wouldn't be visible from.
The rest of the meeting went really well, but overran by at least half an hour. Meanwhile I can see my poor Nanna hiding away in my peripheral vision.

I just love how liferay keeps finding ways to surprise me...

Me: preview loaded liferay properties in preprod via liferay adm panel. All props loaded ok.
Me: attach jdb to preprod's liferay to see what props are loaded. Only defaults are used [custom props not loaded according to jdb]

me: is there some quantum mechanics involved..? Liferay managed to both load and not to load props at the same time and the state only changes as it's observed...

I accidentally created something adorable. See, what happened was I wanted to figure out how to programmatically create blobcats for different countries, since I’d done it by hand for every country represented at my company and wanted a quick way to catch up once we add people from different countries.

Enter Cloudinary!
Wrote a transform that would take the image, shrink it to 150 px wide, then add the blobcat emoji as the underlayer behind and above it, then add the little arms I drew die holding the flag on top.

And that worked! I had a folder of flags and the frontend could query them using the transformations and the country blobcats were born! I even added a preset so I could view the little blobcats with their flags when I looked at the uploaded flags

But then I’m like “Eh, each transform adds a thing against my limit and I really don’t want to go over if this gets popular (why do I ever think _that’s_ a possibility?). I know! I’ll just add the transform on upload and reupload all the flags to a different folder! Then I’ll just need to request the image instead of having to do the transform per request.

And that worked!

But I forgot I still had my preset transform on.

So in addition to the successful country blobcat, I had a preview of what I like to call papa blobcat with kitten blobcat.

Nice try..

I really don't understand how developers from Facebook, WhatsApp and other messaging platforms still didn't figure out that ever since they introduced message previews on push notifications that those "seen" check-marks became utterly useless in most of cases..

This COVID-19 quarantine just confirms it, since nobody is doing anything else except being on phones and computers whole day but somehow it still takes them several hours to "read" the message..

I’m slowly starting to run most of my daily operations & programming in Visual Studio Code.

So I tried to render the Facebook page plug-in and guess what..

Some guy at Facebook has added an online style on the preview: display: none !important.

So the plug-in preview was literally empty, thought I was not doing it right, how can the act of simply entering a url be wrong, seriously?

In my opinion the image feature on devRant is not very user friendly. I think following points should be changed:

- In the rant preview the image has always a 1:>=1 ratio. This means that you can't see the full image unless the image has exactly a 1:1 or smaller ratio.

- To see the image in fullscreen mode you have to tap two times. In my opinion that's just too​ cumbersome. Often when i browse through devRant and i see a image i just scroll along because i don't wanna tap two times to see the image.

Me at BestBuy today: Oh man, you got the got the Pixel 2 XL? This is looks good and feels good in hand. Last time I stopped by, the other guy had just the Pixel 2. Blah blah blah.. so is this running the 8.1 or 8.0?

Window 11 dev preview

- really liked the animation. It feels smooth.
- settings got rearrange like android settings and kind of make more sense than windows 10
- gaming performance is same as windows 10
- after disabling the online results in search, it's far better and speedy comapre to windows 10

My company called the icon for the button to go back "preview" because they don't know the english for this word is previous

Edit: also they didn't know you can just rotate an image instead of making a rotated copy of it

If you are a web developer, consider using proper page titles.

Page titles are one of the most basic elements of a web page and yet websites often fail to make proper use of them.

Without a proper page title, your user does not have an accurate idea of what page is in the tab without having to open the tab, which gets tedious if many tabs are open. With a proper page title, an instant glance on the tab does suffice.

Some sites only put in their site name or something like "Search - Site Name" without including the search query in the page title, or "User profile - Site Name".

An example of this is, disappointingly, archive.org. As thankful as I am for the Archive, they could make better use of page titles to make browsing their library more convenient. While they use proper page titles on item pages (including both title and author!), they use non-descriptive titles on their 2023 search feature (downgraded from lightweight static HTML+AJAX to a JavaScript app) and user profile pages.

The user name of a profile or a search query and ideally a page number should be in the page title so a browser tab with a search can be found faster and can also be seen on social media sites that auto-generate preview cards with page titles.

Descriptive page titles also improve your search engine ranking! You surely don't want to miss out on that, do you?

Posted a question on SO and someone thought they could get clever and turn my Feathers + Nuxt snippet into a functional SO code (to preview or whatever). I told him it's not going to work for various reasons, so he deleted his answer and "down voted" my question. Thanks dude... Thanks a lot...

Holy shit seriously: Fuck MSOffice. Fuck it right in the eyehole.

As desktop software, it's just brutally terrible. On my work mac, it's just sweaty garbage. The latest insult is that on the most recent update, msword stole the default file association from preview.

Libre isn't terrific, but at least it's closed when you close it. For that reason alone, it's orgasmic by comparison.

Because there's justice in the world, my job is not a document-centered one, so I have no real use at all for an office app, let alone the specific macros and formulae that the msoffice versions of these apps provide, so I couldn't give less of a shit about losing functionality.

The headline and main thrust of this rant is "fuck msoffice so hard that it dies of eye-fucking."

Today we kick off the project with the client, it's due in 3 months but client ask me if I can "feed the virtual machine" and "set up a website to preview the final result" for next Monday...

Moral of the story: sometimes you've got to take a hit to be better off in the end.

A client asked me to design flyers for him, at first I was hesitant since this would be a stand alone design task instead of one incorporated with development.

He kept asking since he liked what I designed for my other clients (logos, etc..) So I finally said yes and we agreed to a final preview before he would pay me. I had asked him for color schemes, certain pictures, info, etc. but he told me it was completely up to me.

I finished the design, sent him the preview and he told me it was shit compared to my other work and that he didn't want it anymore 😅. I used to get mad as fuck every time this happened but now I don't even bother .

I know many people are going to say "You should have had him sign a contract, bla bla". I know, I know, but you can't let people sign a contract for every small thing, it completely depend on the situation and I prefer to know which of my lesser known clients are assholes so I can quit accepting tasks from them. This saves me much more time in the end.

A few suggestions:

1. Being able to move between day, month etc. by swiping left or right

2. A web interface (to rant from a laptop/desktop)

3. Link "framing" (a-la WhatsApp, messenger, where links get a frame with a picture and description)

4. basic markdown (bold, quotes, etc. a-la Reddit. this might exist but I haven't run into it, and if it does maybe a preview window for the result would be helpful)

i am working on a fish tank simulator gamr, which every fish have different unique combination and/or permutation. i combined this with cryptocurrency, the idea is similar to CryptoKitties and Insaniquarium combined. the implementation is not yet done, but currently i am working on the in-game market front-end functionality.

All I wanted to do was to create a quick cordova/phonegap app that uses external plugins - so I can't just preview it.

I ended up spending countless hours debugging why shit doesn't work through --log --verbose --debug, trying to avoid to install the monstrosity that is android studio and finally broke and installed it, fuck this shit.

I made a web app where I can build any kind of form, with sections, validations, multiple type of inputs (even coordinates or polygons, photos, etc.) while allowing to see a preview of how that would look in a mobile app. That preview is because when you're done building the form and saved it to the DB, then in a mobile app (which I made as well) you can choose that form and use it.

Everything is beautiful, but after 3 sections with 25 questions each, everything becomes really slow because of the insane amount of actions that redux-form fires on every character type 😢

Today I made a public demonstration, and despite my code is very clean and well made, I think, that slowness made me look like a shitty developer, even thought I know what I made is like a 1000 times better than what I was asked to develop.

Sooo many fucking visual and functional glitches in iOS!

Just had my Files app stuck on a file preview. Couldn’t scroll, close or share the file. Closed the app, restarted the app, opened it again with no luck.

Had to offload and reinstate the app to get it working.

Apple is making sure that I go back to Android for my next phone.

To think that such an expensive phone has so many UI/UX glitches is infuriating! I like the overall aesthetics of iOS but these glitches/bugs/whatever-the-fucks are just plain frustrating.

Would anyone be interested in me setting up a series of puzzles for the people here on devRant? Kind of in a Cicada 3301 fashion, but without any of the mystery around it. Just a series of puzzles that you would all unite to try and break. I'd be happy to make that, but I'd also like to have a preview of how many people would be interested in it.

Windows 10 insider preview had a critical bug like half a year ago where most browsers would freeze the PC. I've reported it multiple times but my feedback didnt get any attention. The bug made it to production months later...

Now, the story is repeating. I've discovered a bug. Everytime there's a software update for apps that with a built-in updater in the main .exe (JetBrains IDEs, VS etc.) the updater fails, program is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. For instance, there's a minor bump in Android Studio version, if you try to use autoupdater it will corrupt your Android Studio and you'll have to reinstall.

Been trying to reach out to them but the only "real issues" that are highlighted are "no CPU temp in task manager" or "pls improve automatic problem resolving"

Why the fuck do you even have a feedback program if you're ignoring the people who are reaching out to you, you pieces of shit

The newest fucking chrome update made image previews (and other dark elements in chrome) fuck up (the actual image is only the white rectangle, the shitty half darker tone is the shit I am talking about), I even deactivated all the fucking plugins to make sure its none of them, did anyone else have that and fixed it? it doesn't even appear in the fucking source wtf

To all my people who don’t like to code emails (the sane people): there is MJML. It’s an easy, quick and overall the best way to create emails nowadays. You won’t need to learn quirks, you can learn MJML in a day and make pretty much any email you need.

There’s even a vscode live preview plugin, don’t know about other ides though but I’m sure there is something.

Fun times with postscript:

I have two EPS files that are generated by a program.
In there there is the postscript describing the file (~6000 lines) and then the preview image as TIFF. Each ps and TIFF image on its own renders correctly and looks good.
Now the fun part: The ps in combination with one of the images works, with the other image it doesn't. Somehow the ps-renderer tries to interpret the TIFF-data, which yields nonsense and the renderer stops altogether. But only for one file not for the other. And it's definitely not the ps, because if I switch the preview images the other file doesn't work.

So I downloaded this game (to be fair, it is a preview version for a kickstarter project) and I had to crate an account with my mail address in order to sign in. Fair enough, I fill in this form and it says "invalid mail adress". It came to my attention that the form automatically put a space behind the mail adress so I had removed it. After I put back the space everything worked, but now I can't sign in because I didn't get the confirmation email (I assume because they sent it to [my email]+[space] instead of just my email). Currently chatting with the support guy, seems like a nice guy and I can't blame them because my mistakes are often even dumber, but before you post a preview version of your product online as a first impression, check if it even works. Please. Especially if the reason for posting it online is asking people for money.

...which worries me, because I am afraid that eventually I'll only be able to feel good after having worked myself to the metaphorical bone.

From Wednesday to Thursday evening, three colleagues and I went to the CAS Partner Preview Day & CAS Customer Centricity Forum in Karlsruhe. Lots of talks (mostly boasting about themselves), some workshops and a lot of "networking opportunities".
Stuff which I mostly consider bullshit, but I never would've figured how effective it is to put on a smile and feign interest in things.
Some of that feigned interest turned into actual interest and we "networked" for hours.
It was a good training for social interactions outside my direct comfort zone.

All day I was creating my CV, and I was creating it in Word from MS Office, in .docx extension...
I exported it to .pdf, it added margins, okay, I just need to live with it...
After that, I clicked `print` button in Word, so I wondered that will look the same as it was on preview before printing....but it wasn't...it looks horrible, even if I choose the black-white option, and all my work fucked up 'cuz stupid printer doesn't want to help me, fuck you my printer, I'll buy better one soon...

Is there any extension for visual studio code that allows markdown to be exported as proper linked TOC PDF? I have tried now atleast 5 different combinations, pandoc, convert markdown etc. and they all produce either really non matching content (pandoc) or don't link the table of contents right. (but atleast show the content 1:1 of what the preview is..)

Web site has taken so long to build due to content delays. When the site is in partial preview- the managers involved forget the direction we were taking content and tear it apart again- demanding new content.

Let me set the scene for you. I was in Visual Studio and saw the notifications and I had a minute so I decided to check them and saw there were updates, this one being one of them. I went to update and first it asked me to close all instances of VS. Fair enough, I close VS and continue. Instead of taking a minute at most to install it took ~10 minutes which is insane, but fine, I stopped my work for it... And then I'm greeted by this gem. Restart your computer for freaking .NET core and trolling.. I'm sorry, tooling... Preview... What the actual fuck Microsoft?

How is it, that features goes thru the entire mill of dev, staging, preview.
Then when deployed to production, things blow up..
Turns out, columns are nullable only in production DB and of course, those happen to be null in there.

Implementing an Audio File preview for Voice Records for one of our clients. The system we are reading names the files by IDs date length etc. And every value separated by #.
Why the hell you name a file like this: 12345#20171204#523.wav
We are implementing the tool with web technologies and this is not just ugly filenaming but also very url unfriendly.

Devrant should have a "preview" image option for images uploaded on a rant. You could just end up uploading images of you and your vacuum cleaner doing some "cleaning"

I spent the last 3 hours trying to set up inline preview for latex for spacemacs but it won't compile cause of fucking warnings! 😂 But at least I know why my references can be inconsistent cause hyperref package is fucking trash, and it's supposedly the best choice for cross-referencing there is.

Telling a web developer to use Divi, WP Bakery, or any similar WordPress page builder is like forcing a plumber to use your little kid's kindergarten toy tools to rebuild your bathroom.

Those tools don't even work! Divi: "your save has failed". Bakery: saving an element's styles will randomly mess up the whole WYSIWYG page preview. Gutenberg: you can write HTML, but I won't accept it. Let's attempt block recovery so I can destroy it completely.

The fact that I am forced to use xCode more and more again, really gets me. I miss vsCode (especially monokai pro) a lot already, but the phonegap developer app simply doesn't work with things like touchid to preview the app.

When user interface elements unsolicitedly change their position, something unexpected might be clicked.

For example, the search engine list at the bottom of the Firefox suggestion box that appears when typing something into the URL bar ("This time, search with:"). When the number of suggestions changes, the height of the box changes, and since the search engine list is at the bottom, its position changes too. This could happen milliseconds before I wanted to click on one, which causes either searching for something I did not look for, or closing the URL bar.

It also causes an uncertainty whether the buttons will remain in place, causing delays until clicking.

The same happens on the image context menu for images on the Kiwi browser. It shows a preview thumbnail on top of the options in the context menu, but since the context menu opens before the thumbnail loads, the appearance of the thumbnail pushes the options down. If this happens few milliseconds before one is going to tap on something, it causes one to tap on the wrong place.

Tried WinUI 3 (successor to UWP if I am not mistaken) and it's only a preview at the moment but god DAMN it is awful.

So, what are your most favorite methods of saving interesting articles about algorithms, functions or simply news so you can read them later when you have time? I find myself storing links to interesting web pages without really going back to them or remembering which link was what. I shifted to storing the links in evernote but it's still not what I'd ideally like to have...

If there are any recommended routines, apps or tools that make stored links insightful (like allowing me to add a quick description or automatically adding a sort of preview of the link), I would appreciate it!

Please note that this is primarily about saving a resource while I'm on the go or simply can't/don't want to spend too much time on the actions.

Tl;Dr:
The new windows subsystem for Linux might severely slow compilation time for me.

Microsoft is releasing a preview of WSL 2 which works fundamentally different to WSL 1, which I currently use.

For those who don't know, WSL (or Windows Subsystem for Linux) used to be a compatibility layer, which "translated" Linux syscalls to Windows syscalls. This enables the execution of Linux applications on Windows. The new WSL (WSL 2) doesn't do any of that, instead, it is a highly optimised Virtual Machine.

So don't get me wrong from a performance point of view there is no Issue, RAM and CPU usage is truly astonishingly small and performance of Linux applications is much improved over WSL 1.

BUT, apparently, accessing files stored on Windows through Linux is now piss slow.

Great, truly outstanding.

Why is this a problem? Well, I use WSL to develop c++ Linux applications using CLion, the way this works is that you set up an ssh server in WSL, which CLion uses to do compilations.

One _needs_ to have the project files stored on Windows as otherwise CLion on Windows can't access them.

If I wanted a Linux VM I would have installed one.

Urgh.

Today morning I was looking through different React UI frameworks for my next hobby project. MUI React has been my favorite but I wanted something informal for this project, so I opened up all the two dozen suggested ones by Google searches.

Since reversing on committing to a UI framework, later on, is a huge headache so I was going through the component demos to shortlist a handful for final consideration, and in that, I almost skipped out all the frameworks which weren't showing a preview of their component on the documentation page itself.

I wonder how many frameworks are genuinely good but are passed over due to others having better and more illustrative documentation. In a market with vast abundance, one cannot rely on the sincerity of the consumer to invest time and determine the best possible product, for there are plenty of 'good enough' products that the user does not really worry about false negatives.

<rant> Why is Apiary's editor so weak? It has no support for navigating from request to its code, it hides inheritance (so in the end you end up navigating source code via ctrl+f which is very cumbersome) and is buggy as hell. It randomly scrolls around, after awhile is laggy, syntax highlighting often breaks on a blank line with few spaces and so on... I wish so hard it would have had a plugin for IntelliJ IDEA with proper navigation and request preview. The web "editor" is just so clunky and generally bad :(.</rant>

Please guys I need ya help. I added a scrollview to a project I was working on and it messed up my preview. It just took everything and positioned it above, even if I tried aligning to the parent bottom, it didn't move. Please any possible solutions to that. I am working with Android studio.

So I was using the Android O Dev preview and decided the annoying things in it was just too much so I un-enrolled which reset my device, I'm now on Android N and have been for a week or two, everything's up to date and all but holding the home menu gives me the "Now on tap", I've cleared the Google app and services data/cache, swapped the language to English (US) and rebooted a few times but still nothing.

I'm not rooted and my bootloader is locked, I'm in Australia and had access to Google Assistant without any trickery before...

Not too sure what I'm missing and how to enable Assistant? So freaking annoying not having it and stuff, it was so useful and I miss it
