I'm learning about hosting things, DNS, cyber security, configurations, Linux (although my current skill set with Linux has been enough for now) and so on!

Hell, easy day today (not that many tickets) so decided to start learning Ansible! Next to that I've gotta learn vim (it just autocorrected that to cum.... O.o), work with hosting panels, mail stuffs (dns, debugging etc etc) and so fucking on.

The boss hasn't been at location yet which will happen tomorrow but he seemed like a very chill guy.

Why are interviewers so resistant to letting people use Google while doing coding questions? It’s not like I can remember all the semantics of every language anyway, and so much of coding is learning to use Google correctly.

When i started learning CSS I thought `!important` will put the property's precedence to the lowest possible level, because, you know, I thought it means "not important".

One of my top 10 worst meetings, was for an interview for a job I really wanted. The guy started off the technical interview by asking me about language features that had been replaced since before I started learning the language. Told him when I started learning and his reply was:

"Yeah I see that on your CV, but come on, you MUST know this stuff".

eh no asshole, because its been removed for 4 years, you MUST know its not relevant

My bf learning a programming language I already know. Him frustrated with it not working. Me in the same room watching anime. His mom calls. I go over and see if I can figure out what's not working while he's in the phone. He was trying to run from command line and wasn't in the right folder 😆

Most painful dev learning experience?

Learned that no matter hard you work, no matter how big the dragon you slain/slew, there are individuals out there waiting to tear you down. Not immediately, certainly not in front of you, and capable of going to extremes just to make themselves feel/look better.

Well, that was 4 years ago, I'm still working here, they're not, we're using MVC.

At University we are currently learning why we should use 1-based Arrays not 0-based.

Programming is not about learning many languages, it's about making a way to simplify a task. With increasing it's productivity and minimizing task duration.

Not caring about other people at university. Setting my own pace when it comes to learning had a huge impact on my mental health.

Do not steer away from projects using technologies you may not know or be comfortable in. Instead worked your hardest to get it right, ask lots of questions and don't be insulted if people find issues in your code. It's a learning experience.

It's not always true that degree holders hate self-taught developers. Sometimes, it's the other way around. When somebody mentions he gained a cs degree, he sometimes gets hate, too, hearing "degrees are useless! yadayada..." like it's a sin to have one. We should never stop learning whether we have a degree or not, and we should stop this hate and divided culture.

Top reason not to be a dev:

If you can't stand it when the computer does EXACTLY what you told it to, and don't have the patience, curiosity, and interest learning how to make it do the thing you wanted in the first place. 🙂

It baffles me how underrated Electron is.

I'm not a fan of learning millions of different Framework, but I think that Electron is groundbreaking.

To give some context, both Slack and Discord are made using Electron

Feeling a little frustrated for not learning faster and getting kind a stuck, I'm not getting any younger.

Not learning data structures and algorithms. Not learning programming languages. Actually not learning anything to answer during a job interview.

I am more of a learn-while-you-do kind of guy. I never learn anything, instead just do it. Interviewers think I am useless because I know nothing. But I can get a job done, any kind of job done. I have no learning period, I can start working from first day in a all new language, in a all new IDE, in a all new OS.

An example, learning how to parse HTML, and finding a stackoverflow post with the answer "use regex" triggers tech junkies so much that they actually comment a mostly accepted way of doing something.

Worked with a team of interns learning Swift. They had a really tight deadline, so they decided if they were not sure what the app should do if a nil showed up, they would just force unwrap and let it crash.

This is my understanding of "Machine Learning" in general

There are two sets of data:

1. In first data set, all the properties are known
2. In the second set, some properties are not known.

The goal of the machine learning is to find the value of the unknown properties of the second data set.

We do this by finding (or training) a suitable machine learning model (mathematical, logical or any combination of), that in the first data set, computes the value of the properties, which are unknown in second data set, with minimum error since we already know the real value of those properties.

Now, use this model to predict the unknown properties from the second data set.

How many of you feel you learn something on the job?

As for myself, I learn much more from books than sitting day in, day out at work, doing more or less of the same things.

To me, this whole trial-and-error way of 'learning' is not really learning. I don't subscribe to this dogma. I don't 'learn' by messing up and fixing something. I need a full specification of why something works, when and how. I'm not satisfied by just being a code plumber.

This, next to the fact that most jobs in small startups don't provide a budget for you to expand your knowledge.

So many new developers I know complain about not having the latest gadgets to learn to code. What I loved about learning to code was all you really need is something like Notepad and a few ideas, it's amazing how far you can go!

A quarter of the class has ZERO programming knowledge, and the professor is basing the class around that. I had a CS teacher in college who was constantly learning and testing himself in order to catch up. He was also my favourite teacher ever. Coincidence? I think not.

At first, my family was like "Don't waste your time on the computer, in college, you will learn how to code". I didn't listen, I started learning C#, but somehow I ended up learning C++ lol. Then I started with C, assembly, and SystemVerilog.
After they saw how good I was at it. They started supporting me. I don't blame them for not supporting me at first, they were ignorant about the topic, so they were blindly making assumptions.

Learning C and just wrote a function to reverse chars in a char array (ex. "Hello" -> "olleH") but the array did not change.

It took me way to long to realize: I forgot to divide the length variable by two. So it reversed the array back everytime...

one of the disadvantages of not using windows is no blue screen, another one is high learning rate.

You want me to be an expert in advanced data structures, algorithms, dbms, Oracle, python, machine learning, J2EE just to develop apps for you? If I had been a master of all trades, I would not have come to you in the first place.

Teachers. We put so much effort in learning, I think it's only fair that you know what you teach. You are supposed to simplify our learning process not make it worse. We don't need a lecture hour to read your ppts.

Building MVPs and prototypes is the best way. Even better if you have a chance to show and share them in front of an audience (peer pressure can be good!).

Share the lessons you've learned and what you've done wrong, it will help many more people than just yourself.

I've been working for an eLearning company for the last 4 years (CloudAcademy.com) and I'm in love with the idea of learning something new every day. And not just coding. Code is "only" a tool to solve problems, and learning something about those problems and fields will make you a better developer.

I just spent 3 days with 1 or 2 hour of sleep just for learning a new way to code. Not a project it just for learning. And it make me crazy i cant stop thinking about that. I signed up for a web developer job... I am now making programs in VB.NET

This was not what I was expecting, however I am completely fine with it.

Crash course learning is fun. Just know that the first hundred programs i write will be really unoptimised.

After much consideration I've decided to learn and use react native over ionic/cordova as I'm going to rewrite most of my views from an existing Web project anyways (if I wanted to make it work with ionic)

I feel anxious and excited at the same time. Hopefully I made the right call.

Anyone here have good experiences switching from ionic to react native?

My goal for the rest of the year and into the new year is to not procrastinate learning/practicing front-end and back-end development.

learning a different language can be difficult sometimes. since i already know other languages, i get them mixed up. putting semicolons, putting spaces even though i shouldnt, putting parenthesis or even forgetting some keywords because in another language, its not necessary. makes it difficult to adjust to the new syntax. but the fun part of learning is having more knowledge and experience.

I feel i need to be specialized in something coz everyone can code now... like u have machine learning engineers and devops/cybersecurity but im not really into either. What other sub fields are there?

I am not even sure if my vuejs codes are in right direction or not and needless to say ES6. But now another task, freaking chatbots. I have trouble following and learning Facebook tools. It confuses the hell out of me every single time.

I regret becoming a frontend dev ( mostly because I started learning jQuery first and not pure js ) .

I regret not learning c++ earlier. I learned Java before and now I have to work with mainly c++ for its libs and it took some time to adjust also I've never used Java for anything useful so far.

Every second programming tutorial in Youtube is made by Hindu, and unfortunately their spelling is not so good. That is why learning from this tutorial becomes twice difficult and ridiculously funny...

Being tempted by a job offer as an iOS dev that has full (paid) training. Not a fan of apple but heard swift is a nice language (assuming it is swift).

I've spent the last year and a half learning the react way as my first dev job, not sure whether it's beneficial to keep on this path or diversify.

So the main aim of this computer would be installing Linux, of course! And learning bash.

Learning Java properly while doing a project as a student and reading what I had written just weeks ago - I had put all my logic into the DAOs, not thinking of creating a package for it 😌

It is good for someone who wants to learn. Someone who want to know what the benefit, pros and cons of the tech that they are not familiar with.

It is not good for someone who think they can get a job after they finished.

In this industry, you never stop learning.

I just learned C and I have created some projects like Parking System and Library Management System. My problem is I don't know mathematics and I want to learn DataStructures & Algorithms and become pro in it. In the whole September I will still be focusing on C and create more projects. I have started learning Mathematics today from High School level to College level. I thik maths will take 1 year to complete. After September in the October I want to start learning C++ and finish C++ till the end of Dec 2019. I want to know that do I have to first finish my maths learning which will take 1 year then I should start learning Data Structures and Algorithms? As I said I want to become a professional in Algorithms. I think its not possible to learn DS&A yet I have to wait 1 year till I finish learning my Maths. I can't do more with C & C++ without knwoing DS&A? If I started learning DS&A with C++ in the future then I can't become good at algorithms? I want to do competitive programming and be at Top 1 of Hacker Rank and other sites like this.

I do like the css scoping a lot. Also it’s strange to not have to deal with state.
