"Position: Java developer
Requirements: Knowledge in C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python, frameworks like jQuery or Angular (preferable)"
Do you need a Java developer or some kind of development deity?10 -
Don't know what is worst: that they offer to teach Visual Basic on 2018, or that they "invented" Visual Java.
Seriously?16 -
Job posting I saw a few weeks back:
"Looking for a web developer who knows JavaScript or how most people refer to as Java."
Jesus...6 -
"Java is slow"
If that is the only reason you can come up with when i ask you why dou you think java is bad, im going to assume youre either a fucking shit programmer or live in the 90s.46 -
Friend: I want to start competitive programming. What should I to ?
Me: You should know at least one programming language like C++ or java ...
Friend: No problem, I know HTML ....
Finally Me: Oh God save me..4 -
Everyone should start with C rather than java/C#/python (or alike). Much easier to move from C to java than the opposite42
-
Hi everyone, I'm new here but I liked the posts so I thought I'd chip in. Here's a picture of my home office.
I'm currently brushing up on SQL and Java in my internship while I await graduation at the end of the year. Java>C# IMO. C++ is my first love but nobody wants to hire for it anymore.
To everyone who's worked in Java, Eclipse or Intellij IDEA and why? (I mostly use Eclipse because the internship requires it).
I hope to have fun here, so please give me a warm welcome or a rant.22 -
Dark Theme / Light Theme,
Java / C++,
Young / Old,
Proprietary / Open Source...
We're all devs and whatever holiday or time in the year it is for you right now in your country have a great time.
I love you all :)9 -
I downloaded an API. Said API requires Java. Said Java version is 1.6... you can no longer download 1.7 or earlier versions..
RIP.12 -
Either I bumped my head really hard, I’ve died and I’m in hell, or something crazy because I’m actually kinda enjoying Java.19

I code, drink, and from Java (yes it's an actual place). Except my life doesn't run on JVM. Or does it?5

Me: *running my first Java program*
Java: Error: illegal character
Me: *scared* Am I going to Java jail or what?3 -
This has been posted a few times but I just want to reiterate for noobs that !Rant means NOT rant, like the C, C++, Python, Java, etc versions. Not like CSS !Important or ruby do_this!(indeed) etc.5

I'm not a windows fan or windows user but imagine if an user ran your java app in windows , your app could use special windows features like taskbar progress !
Now it's possible (on other OS's your app will run normally without these features). JTaskbarLib is my first java open source library. it can also change the window opacity in a decorated JFrame !
This is my project in github:

Why don't people like Java? With only a year of AP comp sci for experience, I don't know enough about it to say I do or don't like it. But it's widely used, and is an official language of Android. Are the people hating on Java just people that don't use it? Or is there something about Java that people just genuinely despise?35
-
Teach an actual coding language like C# or C++ instead of Scratch and Java. If you’re going to learn a language, learn a good one.8
-
I work mainly with Java AND JavaScript (separately).
I hate it when people think I mistake them in a conversation.
Makes me think they are treating me like a fool or a noob.
I really hate it.13 -
Once I didn't knew anything about coding or development.
Someone suggested me to start with Java.
Still looking for that Mada-foker.5 -
For my job interview, they asked me to write simple Java code to check if the string is palindrome or not! Like sir, I've prepared for advanced quick sort and all algorithms and you ask me this!! 🥺14

Heres a Tip someone showed me a while back, thought I shared it here if somebody didn't knew. It works with Browser bookmarks and keywords that you assign.
Use-case:
typing "java: String" into the search bar will show searchresults in Google that only returns Pages from the Java API about Strings.
Steps:
1.Search for "https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/...: %s" in Google.
2.Bookmark it
3.Edit the Bookmark and assign the Keyword "java: "
4.??? (Search "java: Sring". duh)
5.Profit!!1!1
Use-case:
Or typing "stack: help" will search for help in stack overflow.
Steps:
Search %s in SO, bookmark and assign a keyword.
As far as I know this works in FF and Chrome. Cheers2 -
So, during my Java lessons we had a teacher who had a very special relationship with the language.
During the introduction he used to tell us that interfaces in Java are really poorly designed and that they would not reflect how an interface normally should be implemented. The possibility for a developer to add default methods to an interface or that a class could inherit from multiple interfaces was unacceptable to him.
Due to those reasons, he would hate on Java 8 and tell us to not use it and instead stay with Java 7 - dafuq!4 -
Am I doing something wrong here? Or those imports are so damn annoying?
Any solution for reducing those imports? especially that I am using them all and not have non-used imports
Just like Java, too much imports -.-7 -
Python and java tests in college? Both on paper, so you can only write your code once, using a pen, and you can't debug it or modify it. Awesome right... Smh11

A few days ago, one could have said that C++ is giving me PTSD.
Now, I've come to adore, cherish and love it for it's simplicity.
It feels so much better than Java.
No shit on java, it's good in what it does but damn boi C++ can do like, fucking everything.
Probably still gonna gib me PTSD in a week or so but fuck it.13 -
I get a email every few weeks from recruiters for jobs that want senior level dev with 7+ years experience. In android, IOS, Java, or C#. My LinkedIn and personal site both state I graduated almost a year ago ...
-
Just received a test for a job I'm interviewing for. I was interviewing for a C++ position. Practice test: Create an REST API using SpringBoot, Spring Data, document with Swagger and implement continuous integration testing.
To be fair, I also mentioned I'm fluent in Java. But I've never touched SpringBoot or done any backend webdev, since my intention was to never get near it.
Deadline: Sunday. Game on...4 -
When i was 12 or so, my mom bought me the java for dummies book. Don't get me wrong, thats not where i learned from, it just motivated me to find actually useful resources to do so.3
-
How many times do I have explain the rookiees in java developer team, that implementing an interface is not inheritance. You are not actually inheriting any member - variable or method or otherwise. You are just getting a skeleton, according to which you have write your class. THAT IS NOT INHERITANCE.
So MULTIPLE INHERITANCE does not exist in java. Period.
There is no way around it. Stop misunderstanding stuff and passing that misconceptions to newbies.1 -
I hate windows.
I hate Linux.
I hate Mac OS
I hate Android, iOS, whatever os
I hate java, c#, JavaScript.
I hate programming..
I hate being employee, or whatever..
Shit, life sucks8 -
Yeah - I've never written a lick of Java or Ruby, but just keep on showing me those jobs, StackOverflow.
-
Don't start with Java but something simple like Python or Ruby or anything that doesn't need that much blob too run a Hello World! program. That was what confused me the most. And by 'start' I mean like the first few lessons, just to get started.14
-
"Just use JCreator. It's better and easier to use than Eclipse or IntelliJ."
For those that don't know, jcreator is a Java ide that sucks ass. It doesn't even have a dark theme!3 -
So, who's still on jdk 7 or 8?
Man I'm so out of date!
When did they come out of so many versions?
And imagine the Java docs!
Now I know how Javascript devs feel20 -
Referring to my previous rant
https://devrant.com/rants/1274499/...
Now I got a job as a java developer. 😑😑😑
Karma bites you in the ass.3 -
I had two teachers in school, who even after finishing the class, continued to program with interested students. For example programming a robot or communicating over the serial port of a computer using Java.2

Learn VIM. Unless you're doing Java or some other compiled static typed language. In that case: learn JavaScript and then learn VIM. 😎3
-
What was the most stupid thing interview ever do to you?
My side of story. He (interviewer, also a developer) try to convince me that JavaScript and Java are the same thing. Which we all know that is not...
He said "I can't hire someone who don't know basic of computer science , this is basic that JavaScript is from Java"
(Isn't ecmascript or something?)
Saying JavaScript is From Java is a wrong statement. There are differences between having a DICK and Being a DICK.5 -
Why do the java people say that java is superior over C#, when in fact it is more or less the same language? I never hear C# guys crying that their language is better, but I hear java guys all the time. And the fact is even that C# has more language features IMO makes it a better language. .Net is more or less the same as the Java API but we have had DateTime objects and a lot of good things, that Java is now copying, for a long time. Just curious on some ideas why Java is better now and forever no matter what times infinity, but why? And if someone is so stupid as to write that Java is the better language without reading this far then that proves my point. ps. Now that .Net and C# is being open sourced there is not the open source argument anymore either22

Why does every Software Engineering role at the top companies never have PHP or any functional languages in it’s list of languages they want you to be experienced in?
It’s always Java, Python, C#, C/C++, Objective C or Ruby. What about Elixir, Scala, Haskell or Clojure?9 -
Just had an interview with our new potential product manager. I companioned our CEO, if technical questions arise...
First, he came to our office, to the interview, and never..never looked at our application. Neither he saw some screenshots, review's or anything related to the product. As a potential product manager...gasp
And he really tried to impress me, by mentioning what a great full stack developer he also is (LOL), with years of experience in frontend and backend.
But, since I am an android software developer, he mentioned he don't like java. But he loves java script...
Me: ehhh what? So you compare apples to oranges. Why do you don't like java? (And I could image a lot things ...)
Him: because unlike JavaScript, java is a mess when writing code.
Me: ok Iam done.9 -
There is something so comfy about Java that I never get from other languages.
I don't know why but I genuinely enjoy writing 200 lines of boilerplate code. Maybe it makes me feel I am in control and not some syntactic magic like in Python or Javascript.
People keep ranting on java, yet it lives on.2 -
I don't want to hear about Java, JPA, JSP, Json or John ever again or i will have a mental breakdown10
-
So I am doing a homework with the language my teacher made. He said we could opt for either Java or Lisaac, but he said the latter would be pretty hardcore. But I feel hardcore is just an understatement, and outside of an absence of documentation on the object methods which makes you look all the way through the library files when you look for one method/object, then another, then another and all, here's a single fact that will express my feelings:
In his language, there are three main types of errors:
* Execution errors: the program crashes when something that shouldn't be possible is attempted (looking for an item in an array that's out of its range) ; ok, I can take those
* Compilation errors: syntax errors, semantic errors, type incompatibility... the classic, ok, I can take those, I'm used to it
* Compiler errors: when the compiler compiles in C, but fails to do so! "Mister, am I allowed to ragequit?"6 -
Interesting..
From the book Effective Java, third edition:
"1997, when Java was new, James Gosling (the father of Java), described it as a
“blue collar language” that was “pretty simple” [Gosling97]. At about the same time,
Bjarne Stroustrup (the father of C++) described C++ as a “multi-paradigm language”
that “deliberately differs from languages designed to support a single way of writing
programs” [Stroustrup95]. Stroustrup warned:"
"Much of the relative simplicity of Java is—like for most new languages—
partly an illusion and partly a function of its incompleteness. As time passes,
Java will grow significantly in size and complexity. It will double or triple in
size and grow implementation-dependent extensions or libraries."
Bjarne Stroustrup (the father of C++)6 -
Maybe it's because I'm a pleb or because I was first taught Java, but, I only really know Object Oriented Programming patterns, what are the other types, uses, etc?10
-
When java was facing extinction, during the JavaScript, Node, and reactive programming hype. It did what it had always done. just adapt to the hype and maintain backward compatibility. We can all learn a thing or two from the humble java. It never rushes, it's patient. Be calm and wait before you hype yourself.2

So, right now I'm 16 atm I know some basics of php, python but I love Python more than php. So my question it's:
Most of the universities in my country for computer science, are based on java, c++ and some another stuff.
What should I do? Should I start learning C++ / Java or continue using python?10 -
Why do people compare languages? Like C++ vs JAVA, C++ vs Python, C++ vs Elixir?
All languages are best in their own specific use-cases. So why we need to compare all this stuff?
Or might be I am wrong.19 -
Started doing Java because i thought it had much better libraries than C++ .Now after doing it , still not able to decide whether to stick with Fucking Java or with that Fucking C++ LOL.35

Anybody tried developing a chrome extension? I'm bloody lost, with LITERALLY trying to get a goddamn Hello World.
This is worse than when I tried editing in Vim.
Or worse yet, Java.3 -
I used to be a Java fanboy.
After seeing the modern things one can do with other languages I am just disappointed, that Java is so old-fashioned.
Some would say "BUT IT HAS LAMBDAS".
Good, that we have lambdas. We don't have optional parameters or objects (like in JS's {} or PHP's stdClass).
JVM may have many advantages, but I think, that Java is slowly dying although it is kept alive by some companies, still using Java in prod.
I think, that Kotlin is, what Java should have been.
I hope, that my wishes will be implemented in Java 10. If not, Java is considered as dead.8 -
So, settle an argument between me and my dad. My mom wants to start programming, and me and my father can't seem to agree which language would be easier to learn first, where there's no shortage for jobs. My father says Visual Basic or C#, while I say PHP or Java. What would you recommend?22
-
Im learning kotlin but heres what i dont get..
is it a completely new language that uses jvm concept like java or is it a template over java with extra stuff like C++ and C.
when i import a library in kotlin that exists in the java sdk does it use that or all the libraries are made for kotlin.
is kotlin java++ basically or is it something completely different
sorry if its a dumb question still nee at this7 -
For a web developer that wants to try mobile development, which is better, native (java-swift), or react native?16
-
Am I the only one that doesn't like Java? I mean I don't hate it or say it's bad. It's pretty clear that it has been probably the most influential language after C. I just don't like how typed and verbose it is, also I feel old just using it or something based on it (like Jenkins)13

Trying to develop Java applications in Windows...

Ted, Akka is a damn Scala library. Yeah yeah, I know you can fit it into your Java project if you really want to, but damn, you just end up with ugly Java syntax that tries and fails to be Scala. Just bloody well use Scala. Or use something more Java-esque like reactor if you *really* want to do async stuff and stay in Java land. But please, please don't use Akka in Java. The thing is a mess. I know it's asynchronous which in fairness does help in this application, but seriously just....
Wait... hang on... WHAT?! You're using the whole thing in an asynchronous reactive chain then just calling join() on everything?! What do you mean it's "mostly asynchronous but just blocks at the end?!?!" Do you like watching people suffer for no purpose, Ted? Do you?3 -
Anybody here who does mobile development(Android or IOS) (not Windows) without using native languages like Java, Swift or objective-C and is able to get the performance like of those on heavy resource using apps?25
-
At the Android Developers under us:
Do you prefer the new Kotlin language or the good old Java? Because i'm currently learning Android Development with Java.
Would like to hear your opininion! :)5 -
So I've begun working on my senior thesis for college (a full stack Java/node.js application) and a student overheard this and offered to manage my project. He has no idea how to read Java or Javascript.
....You work as a project manager in your day job don't you?1 -
Java: each type is required being in a seperate file with the type's name, many of my projects have way to many files, half of them for really small interfaces or classes16

Helping a friend study for a midterm for a web development class at the university I went to. They have a new teacher this semester and I’m reviewing his slides about javascript to see where the confusion is...
First slide: based off of Java, hence the name JavaScript, but is not Java. Borrows most syntax from Java.
And they wonder why employers comment on the surveys: “unprepared for the workforce”
Looked up the professor.. no experience teaching or any background in cs. And people pay 6-12k / semester for this state university.1 -
Ive been working on pseudo-Java (ie some 3rd company's UNDOCUMENTED programming language) that they parse into Java in their backend
It doesnt even support if-else (only ifs and elses) or a boolean combination of False and OR together lmao
mainly a GRPC middleware-language
Given its lack of features (arrays/collections) or documentation, I just had to implement a flag-array using a 0-1 string
Im throwing exceptions unless combined strings equal Lengths and is only 1s
living like in 80s-90s 💀7 -
So a question to all of the Java developers out there, am I the only one who can’t stand the idea of programming using eclipse or netbeans? I feel like Intellij idea is the best IDE that one can use8
-
For everyone, who uses any IntelliJ based IDE: Ctrl + Click on a method or variable, you will see all uses of that var or method. If you are clicking a usage of it you will jump to the method reference, even from libraries or for example from the Java runtime library.3
-
Jetbrains Java runtime.
I just disabled it and enabled system Java runtime instead. I should have done this months ago, or maybe even years. The performance went from terrible to amazing in just a few seconds. Wow!12 -

I just hate job ads which have a pseudo-language (Java or C for ex) code snippet inviting you for an interview.
Oh my God they are so fucking LAME. I actually pass on these job offers.1 -
In a mediocre job since last 4 years with just a developer designation, but we simply use Java based tools and products to do most of our job. Need to study for a change in job.
Literally every morning:
"Let me see what to focus on: JavaScript/Java/C++/Python/Data science/ML/AI/NodeJS/...." The list goes on.
Every Evening:
"I need to focus on Data Structures and Algorithms. So let me stick to Java for now."
Next Day:
Back to the same routine.
2 months have passed and I have not seriously studied or concentrated on anything :(
Depressed.2 -
Why is netbeans, or Java in general, so fucking bad at handling memory ? I mean, I'm literally doing nothing on my code and I see my IDE consuming more and more RAM, to some point it goes over 1GB so I have to close then reopen it to "flush" the memory taken...
It's 2017, how the fuck can't we still manage to actually use a correct amount of RAM when I open a barely 10MB project ??
And it applies to everything related to Java. Like Android, Minecraft and other Java based softwares...18 -
Hi everyone,
I'm a senior developer who wants to learn android development.
In your opinion, should I start with java or kotlin?38 -
Java Vs. C++
Ok, so I know a bit of Java, still lots to learn but isn't there always! My question to all you poly-linguist programmers is; once you know the basics of OOP are there any obvious hurdles in learning new languages? For instance - do you sometimes accidentally use some Java in C++? Would you all advise to stick to one language and learn it to genius level or does it make you a better programmer to understand a multitude of languages?
<Learning Rant>9 -
Short question: what makes python the divine language for ML and AI. I mean i picked up the syntax what can it do that c++ or java cant? I just dont get it.19
-
Whoever thought that using some crappy niche framework for selenium web driver based on node.js instead of using Python or Java bindings like every other reasonable person would do should be beaten to death with old keyboards.1
-
So I guess, I'm a technical recruiter, part of the screening process, now, for Java applicants. Yay or Nay? I'm not sure if I should be happy or not, because I hate Java and Oracle
-
I recently decided that I was going to broaden my palette and learn a bit of Java. I've had painful experiences in the past, but it's been a few major versions since I last did anything in it. Then I go to update the OS Java, and IT STILL FREAKING PROMPTS ME TO ADD YAHOO TOOLS TO MY BROWSER!!! ARE WE STILL IN THE 90s? DO YAHOO AND ORACLE STILL HAVE A DEAL? OR WAS SOME JAVA INSTALLER DEVELOPER TOO FREAKING LAZY TO REMOVE IT FROM TUE INSTALLER PROMPTS?!
And that's why I have a problem with Java.3 -
Hi, so I want to get into Android App development.
I know the basics of Java and I have already written some simple apps with Java.
However I would like to get more serious with it and now I wonder if I should directly start writing apps in Kotlin or if I should write them in Java.8 -
Hi all! I am an iOS developer and I've been using Firebase as my 'online storage'. I want to be a more full stack dev and creating my own APIs. I have been learning Java and .NET in college, but that is about 4 years sgo.. Thanks in advance!11

our new cto is advocating to start migrating our existing and any upcoming new features from php to kotlin.
I tried looking into kotlin but it just doesnt feel nice to me. call me an idiot for actually enjoying php or java but i really dont feel like using something other than them.
i don't want to write Kotlin or Go or anything other than php or java which I already feel extremely comfortable with.
Maybe id love writing Rust even tho im new to it but anyway...i got too used to my comfort zone... and very few *new* things tend to interest me anymore.

Java 17 and I see methods in the API that apparently were deprecated back then in Java 1.1! Shouldn't deprecation be the precursor to being eventually removed? Or is backwards compatibility so much important that is ok to have shit in this limbo state for decades?6

C# has static binding by default. Meaning methods aren't overrideable unless you specifically tag them as virtual. I love how in java you can take someone else's random class and override everything with some additional or alternate behaviour.13

No one loves Java as much as Google and Oracle. They are willing to have a battle in court. Or maybe it is just that $9 billion 😂😂😝
But on a serious note as a former paralegal "I don't think copyright should be applied on a programming language " plus, I feel like even if it is applied... google is using java in it's own way (android) as the courts have stated that you can't copyright a language syntax or API definition. So Google can use the Java langauge syntax and core Java API freely on Android.
I don't know about you but, a lot of clients do bring up their concerns..on what the implications are for them and their company developing mobile apps!!
Any updates? Concerns? Thoughts?3 -

What's a good IDE for Java? I have used Eclipse and NetBeans in the past, but for whatever reason Eclipse won't set up right on my machine and I am not a fan of NetBeans' console display thingy. (OR at least I wasn't in 2009)
I am applying for a teaching gig but they teach in Java so I want to knock the rust off.12 -
Hi guys. jeez i have to say i mastered java and python those languages are easy if i keep this up i might be able to make my own api or get into java cryptography maybe show android app developers how to keep their source code safe from reverse engineers to be honest on android i started from python, to java to AIDE (android app), to android studio i even made my first lib file these aren't games im still learning i have like one project is like a clicker game lol6

Installed JDK 14 and now everything has scattered. Cannot build, run or compile because of a plethora of config that must be updated. Literally want to die. Naturally, i would update my java home path to my old version in my bash_profile right? well tough shit. that didn't work either. Really fucking frustrated rn. Its like Java and sbt on my machine are at war.9

Is it just me or after working with languages like C and java, javascript's practises seems out of place ? Like readability can go to hell i will write a whole function instead of arguments.12

My dream is to make video games. Knowing that I learn Java at school, which langage is the most appropriate for you? My teacher, who is a java fan, told me java, of course. On internet I found c or c++, and I even found a JS framework (phaser), but the doc wasn't great.
Do you have advices ?13 -
Hello everyone.
I recently started android app development and i wanted to ask if you code entirely in java/kotlin or use xml+java/kotlin ?

Any game devs here?
If so what engine do you use.
Currently I make from scratch and I'm looking to expand to 3D games. Unity seems like a good choice. (Platform: Windows, C# or Java)7 -
TL;DR Thinking whether to switch to Xamarin after learning Android Sudio(Java) for almost a year.
So, I've been learning android dev using Android Studio and Java, and I've made some progress. Not a lot, I finished a few projects for fun/practice the last of which was a project that took 4 month to finish, so I now am capble of making small or simple apps for android, and I have been thinking of switching to Xamarin. What do you guys think? Should I stick with Java/Android studio, or should I abandon it and start over with Xamsrin?
P.S. I am pretty good with both Java and C# so this isn't a concern.3 -

Guys I have something important to ask you, more experienced devs here. I am at the end of my Bachelors Degree and currently applying for jobs with Java. I have always been really interested in C++, but thought it was too hard and all of that. Just now after two years of developing desktop/web apps with Java/Spring i feel I am ready to go low level. Do you think I should focus on Java or go with C++?
Any oppinion is welcome and thanks in advance ;)4 -

i have been an Android dev at my current company and a job has recently been posted which requires a java engineers. i am expecting this is a backend job. i got 0 experience with backend or java backend frameworks, but i understand java well and always wanted to transition to backend. even the reporting manager is someone whom i have seen in meetings and sitting with my TL

please share your journey6 -
Am a Computer Science student. And learned C, C++ and Java. And right now learning C# through online tutorials and practicing side by side.
So my question is, should I learn bash shell or not? Is it worth learning it? Or should I learn powershell scripting? Or should I don't learn either of them.6 -
I don't know why GNOME decided to mess their keyboard layout handling at some point. All of their US INTL keyboard variants don't work one way or another.

AppEngine: Java, Python or Go? Personally I prefer Python because I haven't gotten into Go, and Java is a headache at times..

So I'm a Java Dev used to work develop products on Google Clpud Platform. Technology stack used was Java, REST API/Webservices, Firebase, Google Cloud Datastore. Now that I've resigned from there (because of limoted opportunities) and joined a new company in another city.
And in new company I've been assigned to a project which is developed using Java Swing, SQL Server only.
So my question is:
Is it worth working on Java Swing which is a fairly old tech or should I look for another job: a webapp developer using Google Cloud Platform or AWS technology stack. What can be the wise move here in my case?
Really need a direction here guys. :) -
This is not meant to be dumb, but why is JavaScript called JavaScript?

I have a question. I currently use PHP when creating my API's, however, I am unsure wether to move on from it. I use either laravel or lumen to do so and use vuejs for the client apps. I am proficient in Java and JavaScript and wondering wether I should move over to spring/spark or express. I have been programming for almost 10 years now and just finished my first year in uni. I want to appeal to employers for my placement year and I know they look down on php. So, should I go with java spring/spark or express ? Other suggestions are welcome!6

After delaying it for a few months, i'm finally starting to work on my final college project. It's going to be done in Java and Mongo. I'm not sure about the web part of the project, because i've never done anything in that part besides basic html and css. I'll probably try JavaScript.
Just wanted to share this because i've made the hardest step - actually started working on it.
Kinda feeling proud of myself.
Kinda feeling weird of being proud of such a thing.
Don't wish me luck, wish me the will to keep not giving up when it's the hardest -

I started university in september and after one semester using java (i learned java three years ago and used since), we started C.
I noticed that developers that program developing with high-level languages, or modern languages (like rust that it's low-lewel, but still has many modern language features) are for spoiled developers.24 -
I'm looking for resources and/or a good tutor for C to help me learn the basics and maybe go a little deeper. I have previous programming experience with Java and I'd just like to expand my knowledge base.

The fact that i no longer have to bother knowing or googling about generic java classes, lambda expression, regex, SQL syntax etc, and just ask ChatGPT to show me a code example of it - blows my fucking brain off2

I'm currently a java developer. I've dabbled in python too. Mostly worked on API development and some data processing. I want to learn something new, that'll keep me engaged. It can be something within java (like image processing or NLP) or some other language (Go, scala, js). What do you all suggest?6

How many languages does one have to learn...? Learnt C, C++ and Java because of college courses. Learnt HTML, CSS, and vanilla JS because I wanted to learn frontend. Now learning R for big data analytics. Today, I came to know that I need to learn more Java or start learning Python for Hadoop...!!

Why is it that so much of the Apache software for data is written in... Java?

How good is the world of java advanced for a career these days? I learned java basics (collections,OOP, syntaxes, threads, a little bit of spring, etc) aka core java in college and then went straight to Android dev.
I am thinking of learning about the contents of java ee and me or whatever "advanced" java is. How tough is it? What is the career in it? How good is the possibility of getting a fresher job in it?2 -

For anyone that has used or is using repl.it, I'm thinking about using it for a project at uni.
The project is a Java program with a HTML, CSS, JS interface.
If I open my project as a Java project in repl.it, is there a way to just run the HTML? It'd be stupid to run the whole app just to debug the frontend...1 -

So I started learning html, css and javascript this year... After getting stuck in understanding a few concepts I started learning a little of sql and Java...
Now after a few begginer tutorials I have no idea where to go or what to dedicate my studies...

I need advice:
I'm a developer, I have lots of experience with Java and Python (More on Java than Python). But I'm not a game-dev.
I've been thinking about dedicate serious time to develop a game, like a long term plan, using my free time.
Top down adventure / puzzle game; you know typical go here, get key there, put three gems here, unlock that and so on.
I have two options: Go with Java as I can move easily with it OR use an engine like Godot even though I've never used it before.
So game-devs, any advice on what should be the best approach here?8 -

Why do bitwise operators (and, or) have a lower precedence than equals?!?! What is the reason?😨

Most of my previous experience is in Java but my current area of focus is iOS apps for healthcare. Patient casenote management system and an electronic form solution for paramedics in ambulances. Im currently using both Java and Swift for my dissertation, an iOS app with a Java backend using Dropwizard for REST. iOS can be good but Im eager to get away from Objective-C. I wouldnt mind going back to java full time or even maybe C# since they are basically the same thing.

Gson is an excellent library every Java/Android developer should know. You can easily parse a Json or XML network response into a POJO class and get ready to go. But the guys who started the project I currently support found a better, smarter, slicker way to parse network responses into memory:
ArrayList<ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>>
I would love to meet the genius who came up with this idea. I mean, you can parse absolutely any API response without even having to define stupid Java classes or importing libraries! And also you can reutilize the same scheme for literally all Java projects that handle API responses! Wonderful -
After years of java and c#, It's the little things that still get me. Like I can't tell in which language the string starts with a capital s or not..

My first programming language was PHP and lately I've started looking for a new language to learn. My first idea was C, but after talking to professors in college they pointed out Java would be a good option. They made fair points regarding our local market and job openings. Now I'm in doubt: C or Java?6

Today I found a faulty design choice in java, that seriously makes me hate java. Basically java prohibits abstract static methods. This -combined with the poor design choices for constructors - means that Subclasses cannot have a common constructor or static method calling the constructor.
Basically meaning that you can't just map a collection to objects without handling EVERY FUCKING CASE, WRITING THE WHOLE MAPPING AGAIN AND AGAIN, ADDING A FORCED PORTION OF SPAGHETTI WITH EVERY CLASS WHERE THIS WAS NEEDED.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
There seem to be other OOP languages with this faulty design. Can't say if I now hate OOP ingeneral or not, because maybe some languages may have provided a substitute for this6 -
I have a little ask for you guys, If you need to start a Java project, Will you use kotlin or Just Java? I'm a little confused with this choice, so i need more visions19

Advice needed.
Tell me the difference.
I know the technical difference between Native Android Development using Java and developing for android using cross platform frameworks like Cordova, Ionic, etc.
I am quite comfortable with Java, and am also not a web developer. Should I stick to learn android java more in depth or should I start learning frameworks like phonegap and ionic.
Seeking opinion from career and a professional perspective.3 -
Is JAXB explicitly DESIGNED to be the most brittle and frustrating API in the entire Java ecosystem? Sure fucking seems like it. Feels like every damn JDK upgrade or dependency upgrade requires screwing around with JAXB-related code, and not always in trivial ways, or a trek back into dependency management hell for a while. ARGH!!
