In the past, as far as I can tell, you could refer to yourself as a full stack dev if you had experience with both front end and back end technologies.

Am I the only one who when hearing the term "Artificial Intelligence" thinks about why nobody tries to develop "Real Intelligence" instead?
I mean the term artificial imho points directly at the reason why those systems are actually so damn stupid

Short term: Become familiar and independent enough to choose my own machine and software to work with. Right now it's "Here's your MBP, we've already installed the stuff that the rest of us use". If I try and switch to something else and I run into a problem, I'm on my own.

Mid term: Like a lot of you it seems, I'd love to have my own setup. Either have my own company or partner with some friends/family. Whatever lets me do the work I want, build the things I want, and gives me a bit more freedom outside of work. Perhaps a little side-hustle to help with finances.

Long term: I'd love to return to my studies. I don't think I'll ever stop coding, it scratches an itch, a need to make something out of nothing, but I'd love to pursue a career in physics.

I've switched from pycharm to sublime to vsocde in a month, now vim is catching my eye, my mentor will kill me if i started using vim now but it's freaking interesting, will be learning a little bit of vim, will stick to vscode for long term i guess.

My boss telling me not to worry and be more confident, after pointing out that not updating bad ad hoc code is not a long term solution, just inspired the confidence in me to tell him to go fuck himself if shit brakes during the weekend and evenings.

Nearing the end of the year, and all I'm thinking is that I'm just making bad decisions left and right. And these are like long term decisions, that don't show results until much later.
It's making me really depressed and it's not good.
There are a bunch of should haves all littered throughout the past 3 months and it's really fucking with me.

That's why I'm always tired:
I go to learn some framework, I bump into a term that ends up being a whole other programming language that uses a tool that needs 2 months to learn... and there's just so much stuff to learn!!!

Worst documentation experience: reading an 500+ page ISA document where the author (a so-called computer architect) kept confusing the term 'op-code,' and 'instruction.' When I asked for a consistent definition he flamed the shit out of me. My boss sided with him.

Installed Ubunut 20 on my laptop (Thinkpad). It cannot open the App Store (with A letter on it). Imagine building a system, marking it as stable (long-term-support) and shipping it in such state that it is unable to launch the default (pre-installed!) app-store. This is Linux for you.

Updated the system; still cannot start the freaking appstore.

Does anyone else think it's odd that the term "Alexa" can be used to describe either a large analytics service or a digital assistant, both of which are owned by Amazon.

Im browsing to webdeveloper vacancies all day today. Appearently every company thinks they are working with or on state-of-the-art technology. This term is raped and abused for sure!

Of course I'd like to develop something I actually care about and make money out of it, but since I'm still in uni my short term vision is finding a job as a developer. Gotta bring that bread on the table, and maybe start having a life (not necessarily a social one).

I'm supposed to write a term paper about a scrappy python/sqlite3 project I put together in a day. And even though mine is the most advanced of all the student's programs (it's cocky but it's true), I feel so ashamed... It is so scrappy and useless... Now I'm supposed to pull something out of my ass, what I did or how I did it sounding all pretentious and proud. After I get my grade I'm wiping it off my disk for sure!
