Then the software engineer said "LET THERE BE A PROJECT"
and there was a project. And it was [good]
On the secondth day, he said " LET THERE BE GIT", and there was a empty git repo
his colleagues hate him because thy still live in 2001 and they use SVN. But it was {good}
On the thirdth day, he said, "LET THERE BE AUTOMATION" and build systems came, And it was </good>
On the fourth day, he said "LET THERE BE A FRAMEWORK" and a framework was born. Problem is, it didn't work in his machine , so he whined and StackOverflow. It's still ["g", "o", 0, "d"]
on the fifth day, he said " LET THERE BE FRONTEND", and the frontend was born, but his colleagues again, ranted for using Angular instead of React. It's still "good";
And on the sixth day, he said "LET IT BE SOLD TO A CUSTOMER" and it was, but the bloke was a cheapskate wanker and paid him only the half of the contract price. But it was still good.
And on the seventh day, he rested, but he didn't actually, because Developers never rest nor sleep. And it was good3 -

Quite the opposite of a Rant actually. Very good day today! Had pancakes to start the day, finally got a second monitor for only 5 bucks - it is so much easier to program with live change monitoring!

I used to measure my performance in features per day (or week, depending on their scope), or tasks/day or loc/day for huge projects. My usual was two to three small features a day, and some progress on a larger one.
Now I’m so burned out and depressed that i measure my progress in the amount of days per week that aren’t “zeros” — as in days where i get literally nothing done. Now any day where i get _anything_ done, no matter how little, is a “good day.” I partially refactored about fifty lines of json builder spaghetti on Tuesday. That was a great day.
This week I’ve had two zeros, and it’s Thursday morning. I think it’s going to be a three zero week.
Worse: performance reviews were due weeks ago. I still haven’t written mine, and have no idea what i would even write. How can i make myself sound good when i can barely even force myself to eat or take a shower?50 -
I was joking with my colleague what is the best comment for this if hell.

I managed to get a group of people to use an open source and privacy respecting service instead of its proprietary (surveillance) competitors today.
The experience was good for everyone and I wouldn't be surprised if at least some people who participated will remember this good working FLOSS solution.

I forgot what it was like to have a productive day!
I’m rewriting the Apple wallet pass code to make it fully customizable instead of mostly static, and it’s beautiful.
The code was horrible tangled spaghetti before (and soo slow) but now it’s clean and fast and modular and absolute bliss to spec. Yay, dependency injection!
I actually had fun working today! 😊

Whenever I see a programmer or hacker coding in a movie, I pause the movie and see if I can understand what the code is trying to do. If I can't understand it, I feel sad the rest of the day thinking I'm not a good enough programmer.7

2: i solved a task using newly introduced tech and it works. Which has lots of implications on future work, a lot faster too. Also everyone is happy and supportive.
3: i felt good at the progress made with my kinesitherapy, my spine is starting to cooperate again.

Today my manager hired a new dude doing front end, spend literally whole day to setup his VSCode and Angular thing.
And because I’m a good MIS dude, I do my job right via giving him a company laptop with VS, VSCode, Node and Angular preinstalled.3 -
At the end of each work day, once I am sitting down, I take a moment to do a little stress relief exercise.
I get in my car, make sure all doors/windows are shut, make sure the coast is clear, and I yell at the top of my lungs.
The relief is almost instant. And even if it was a good day, sometimes a good, loud yell can just help to relieve any build up tension, anxiety, or stress you may not have known you were under. Give it a try (:2 -

Long story short a guy texted me on Xing, he had an interesting idea, I joined in and now we are founding a startup.
Short story long, a guy texted me on Xing. I usually don't give a fuck because there always just fucktards that want to offer me modern enslavement. No thanks you lifeless greedy hamsters! (no offense) This time was different though. It was not the usual kind of words and the idea sounded pretty awesome. So I gave it a try.
We met in a Café and talked about the idea and about my role in it. It went pretty well and we basically had a nice little chat, coffee and cake.
I was still not convinced. It sounded to good to be true. Why would something like this ever happen to me? You know that kind of feeling. It was like "Hopefully I'm not selling my soul to the devil now."
We now work on the project, already have 5 customers and are a step before the first financial investment. I'm pretty amazed how that turned out!
Now to disappoint you a bit more (or maybe to give you hope?) All I've worked so far (except that one little one-year internship) happend by, me talking to someone that had a job, me being honest about what I want and me rejecting anything that runed my guts inside out. That's it. I never really applied for something. I just get to know the people and with that comes the opportunity. Just be respectful, curious and honest. The others will notice. Chances rise that you'll find something you love todo.4 -

Woke up telling myself I should make a build for my game to see how it perform (didn't do a single one in several months). Was expecting some issues like always. But everything built on first try, on Windows and Linux (which is a fist attempt for the later).

Not been a good day so far:
1. Woke up to my Synology in a 'Volume crashed' state. Tried to contact support via web page; support web page not loading.
2. Ancient software at work stops working. As the last remaining C++ dev, I gotta troubleshoot. Original developer wrote test program...in VB6.
3. Server config file changed, but all the admins swear up and down nobody's made any changes.
4. Client calls account rep and wants to know about our security policies, so he schedules a meeting with me and client and forgets to mention until he's emailing me asking where the hell I am. From the tone of the conversation between the rep and the client, it's clear that somehow I'm to blame for being late.
Sigh.
Well, hey, at least it's Friday, right? Right?1 -

Today was a good day.
I was told to use in-house BitBucket runners for the pipelines. Turns out, they are LinuxShellRunners and do not support docker/containers.
I found a way to set up contained, set up all the dependencies and successfully run my CI tasks using dagger.io (w/o direct access to the runner -- only through CI definition yaml and Job logs in the BitBucket console).
Turns out, my endeavour triggered some alerts for the Infra folks.
I don't care. I'm OOO today. And I hacked their runners to do what I wanted them to do (but they weren't supposed to do any of it). All that w/o access to the runners themselves.
It was a good day :)))))
Now I'll pat myself on my back and go get a nice cup of tea for my EOD :)3 -

So, brand new laptop. Running an i5-7200U, 8gb of RAM, just put a 1tb SSD in there. Even has an optical drive my dudes! Also got a nice lineup of new mechanical pencils cause my mom is a fucking boss. Today's been a good day.

A little update after yesterday's catastrophe:
No catastrophe today (so far). Managed to clear some space on the servers, and the backup ran correctly overnight.

Judo.
I might sound like one of those wierdos that are overly into Japan, Martial Arts and such, but I really enjoy Judo.
It is a sport where you have to FEEL the contact with your opponent.
Practising Judo made my day-to-day stress go away in just about 20m and also kept me in good shape, made me meet a lot of people/friends, lead me to live in a certain way and interact with people in a certain way (a good way, actually).
It also taught me which parts of the body are the most dangerous/fragile and cause the most pain.6 -

Good: Backup are plaintext and somehow easy to parse

The Project Management Triangle "fast-cheap-good (pick two, you can't have all three)" is something I've never agreed with.
How would you promise to build something good & cheap?
Doing it slowly will not really make it cheaper. The cost is usually development hours. If it takes 40 hours to make a good product - doing it 2 hours per day isn't going to make it cheaper.13 -

How many hours of actual productive work do you devs average a day? Honestly, I think I average about 2 hours of honest, good work in my 8 hour day. Between random meaningless meetings that could be emailed out or just daily distractions (coworkers chatting, my phone, etc). Am I alone in this?8

Compile before leaving for the night, everything's good. Compile when I come in and it's all fucked up. Over 50 files changed and hit overnight.
14 hours later, compile successful 100%
That's how a day should end. -
Take a day off, entire system goes down. Come in the next day: "We need to fix this".
12 hours later we get the system back up and a significant design flaw is now known which needs to be fixed on Monday.
It feels good to have the bandaid in place.

Friday: Expectations vs Reality
Expectation: Work on work for half the day then work on side projects for the rest of the day. Consider it a good day.
Reality: Work on work for whole day. Then have your boss set the expectation to have a project completed by Monday morning that you know will take 3 more days. Hence making you work the weekend to try to get it done in time. -.-4 -
Woke up, full of motivation for work.
But I guess windows knew better. It's been 30min already, and it operate on an SSD.

I wanna make a c+friends language and it'd be dev friendly and will throw lots of errors on compile to show love. Also it'll compile slower with each newline so you can always say "it's compiling" there will be classes but people instead and then instead of new I'll have create. As for loops let's go with a friendly do while loop and dontdo while as normal while or dowith i while to have a friendly for loop. Instead of ifs let's say decide() and instead of else let's have or. Instead of functions I'll have well you need no functions you'll have jumps and tests before jumps just like assembly has. Oh and everything will be a pointer because then it runs nicer. To create a variable you can't use = because that's the equal sign in decide you need to use "var int myint is 69" because why not. Then to print to the console "console.outputstream.out(myint)" instead of threads I'll have please like "please work" where work is a jump target. I hope you'll enjoy this language ^^

I take a task, break it down in smaller tasks which can be done in one day, more if some problem came. But let's say if it finishes within a day and I have free time, I don't start the next thing instead I feel good that I'm done. Is it only me? 🙄3

My boss' solution to whatever problem comes from a plugin:
spam emails to the plugin creator until they dont desperately give up and either block you or they solve your problem, 2 emails a day should do for first day, then increment every day.
I mean, if I ever get to make a good plugin and my boss will ever download it and can't make it work, I much rather remove the plugin from Earth than solve the issue of a spammer6 -
My biggest challenge is moving from framework to framework or language to language.
It takes me a good day or day and a half to get used to it. I'll finally have a eureka moment and figure things out. But until then, it's quite hard and I end up questioning my competence. -

So i just saved myself like a day of work.
My boss wanted me to make a new endpoint for a webpage I'm working. Ok, spend yesterday afternoon planning it out.
Come in this morning, ready to write it. Look through our api docs. Turns out we have almost the exact endpoint i need, minus 1 simple field. Add the field (1 line of code).
Everything is looking good, I'm a day ahead of where i planned to be. I just wish my boss had told me of the endpoint earlier.
Planning and good docs pay off. -

- squashed a bunch of bugs
- almost finished some heavy reorg of the git repo for another project
- killed like 4 mosquitoes (those things are annoying af!)

My job's going well. I am making good money, more and more each year. My health's good. I have a good body. I get laid every now and then. I enjoy being single.

This was a one day project :
I created an app that would directly read feeds about our travel website when they hashtag about their experiences on twitter ,and automated it to pass it through a very minimal machine level algorithm to identify the sentiment of the tweet. (Good ,bad and neutral). The analyzer was about 40 percent accurate,but it did better with training the keywords.This not only helped the Global Communications perform better at their work,but were able to close out most of the issues on a day to day basis.4 -

I thought it was bc I had a low balance do don't get much interest... But I double checked.... And boom....

Have to now fcking fill out, print and manually mail an Amendment... whose instructions are sorta vague so need to email my tax software's company for some help figuring out what I should include....9 -

XCode is so terrible. I have to force quit it several times a day in so many use cases. I wonder why Apple cares so little about us developers. I dream with the day they’ll make XCode a good IDE. It feels good to jot down tasks for the day in the first 5 minutes of coming to office. I know what needs to be done for the day and what was accomplished the previous day. Also I tend to be on proper track during daily standup. So maintaining a work related TODO list helps a lot.
