I fucked up hard for the first time yesterday at work.
Came in and expected a huge speech from the bossman.
He called me to his office:
Explained me where I went wrong and what I should do next time with a big smile on his face!24 -
Me: *hours of coding, develops a feature*
Code: I'm working..
Me: Oh good.. will monitor you for sometime.
Code: Ok, I'm done. I'll stop working now.
Me: WTF
Me: *sits for hours to solve bugs*
And when almost done,
VPN: Someone's having a good day, I'll disconnect you now.
Me: WTF
Me: *tries switching on/off VPN couple of times..*
When it starts to connect,
WIFI: Oh wait!! It's my turn to bid goodbye now. Have a nice day sir
Me: Of course !! The wifi
Me: *restarts router/ troubleshoot etc*
When wifi says connected...
Battery: Good job with wifi.. I'm down now..what you gonna do?
Me: Are you fucking kidding me???
Me: *connects charger, wait for laptop to switch on*
Windows: Updating....
Me: *jumps out window*13 -
Do you guys feel a need to create something "cool" and "unique" but have a hard time coming up with ideas?4

my all-time favorite xkcd comic. Many will know it already, but i think it's a nice start into devrant community and maybe a few will laughing as hard as i did when i've seen it the first time :)8

Was working and decided to go get a drink so I Took my headphones off.
Just in time to hear a colleague say: (in Dutch it sounds better) Beste Bob, krijg de tering.
English equivilant: dear bob, go fuck yourself.
Giggled hard 😆20 -
I think I get a programmer high.
Like when I program, I get really into it, time is flying, I'm having fun problem solving, I am super focused, my brain is thinking super fast, and I have a hard time stopping.
Maybe similar to a runners high?9 -
Friend: "Don't all computer science people learn multiple languages so they can use the right one for the job?"
My reply:
We learn multiple languages because some asshat before us had a hard-on for it and now we need to keep that shit running and we don't have time to rewrite it.6 -
Interviewer: How will you solve the travelling salesman problem?
Me: *explains the solution on whiteboard*
Interviewer: It is slow. Can you do it in linear time at least?
Me: It is NP hard so it is not possible. For a restricted case, it may be possible
Interviewer: You are stupid. Do not apply again.7 -
Never laughed so hard before. Worth the time. Totally!

Tanking World of Warcraft raids. I had severe depression and low self worth. I played the game all the time to cope. I decided to get good at tanking because I heard it was a challenge. I ended up getting fairly decent, started tanking raids and people would ask me on more and more raids saying I was a great tank.
This gave my self confidence a boost and I figured if I could do that (which everyone said was hard) I could get good at coding (which everyone also said was hard.)
Stopped playing wow, started coding all the time. Today I earn very, very decent money as a software dev. (and I don't have depression anymore)
Thanks World of Warcraft.12 -
this one time my coworker was having a hard time debugging a javascript function so he set it to alert("kill me pls") and that somehow got into production.
we recieved many support emails from concerned customers that day6 -
Learning a new language is like first time doing sex, it's hard at the beginning but when you start doing it right you just want more and more! :) good morning guys !!4

My stickers just arrived. And I especially love the encoding of “ß” within the street name.
German. It's hard.
Next time, just use upper letter and replaced “ß” with “SS” or just use a “B”. The B is especially fine to drive typographers mad.8 -
My time as a Dev have given me deep mistrust of the following words;
Only
Just
simple
Quick
Easy
Any requirements, specs or feature files presented with the above words should immediately be deleted and/or burned if in hard copy.3 -
I am officially a retard.
I was DOing hard refresh multiple time and making changes on the code.
nothing seems to happen.
after quite a while, I realized I was refreshing the deployed site and not the local one.
kill me.9 -
No boss... For the fucking millionth time: unit tests are not a waste of time.
You keep testing everything manually and hoping that you tested everything every time and praying that there are no bugs IS THE FUCKING TIME WASTE
My boss just can't fucking wrap his head around automated tests... I'm trying hard... Gonna try harder...6 -
I once ran into a CAPTCHA that was hard coded with a simple math problem. Every time it asked what 5 + 1 is.4
-
Fucking URLs, people.
They're not hard.
If you're going to give me a bug report, TELL ME THE GODDAMN URL.
If, after yelling at you several times for not providing the url, you instead just fucking GUESS at the url, YOU'RE A GODDAMN BLITHERING IDIOT AND YOU'RE WASTING MY GODDAMN TIME.
ALT+D, CTRL+C or CMD+L, CMD+C
SO HARD. ASDFASDJGHLKASDHFLJKSGDFSKDFrant the bozo didn't even recognize a 404 page bug reports without urls screenshots without context urls bug reports blithering idiots6 -
Last week my brother was visiting. I did some advanced partition management for his girlfriend (preparing a hard drive for backups) and used a Linux live system with gParted for that.
That's when he said "I guess it's time, that I get into Linux - what do I need to get started?".

My new year resolution: 3840 X 2160

PS: don't give me a hard time in the comments. I know it's an old joke. 😫4 -
When I was a kid, my dad was always busy. He is an orphan with next to inheritance and had to work really hard to send me to school. I don’t remember playing with him ever.
He is about to retire in a few years, so he gets some free time now, but now, I’m struggling too hard and don’t have time for anything random at all. The generation gap makes it impossible to share anything at all.
We don’t have any common interests, and don’t get to do stuff together.
Today, we built a mechanical keyboard together. 1 hour. I absolutely loved it.4 -
Wear headphones at home office. Not because I can't play it out loud, but when you go around in Iron Maiden shirts the wife gives you a hard time about listening to J-pop.4
-
"How long will it take us to build X?"
"How long is a piece of string?"
Very similar indeed. Time estimates are insanely hard even with all the cards on the table, be sure to lay them all out before asking.1 -
So many bad dev habits...
But the one that results in the biggest headaches afterwards?
Me, when given a problem and being asked an estimated time: 'This shouldn't be too hard, gimme X to do it', only to later find out it's way harder than i imagined.4 -
Wish me luck, ranters. Tomorrow I start working in an IT company for the very first time. Hope I don't get fired very soon, freelancing is hard. And I still owe >1300€7
-
I fucking hate it when developers don’t respect user locale. My phone language is UK English, my Discord app language is UK English and my region is UK.
Then why the fuck is Discord showing me MM/DD/YYYY date format? How hard is it to pass locale when parsing time?19 -
TLDR; My 2TB HDD got wiped in one fell swoop by a 9-year old child.
You know... I've never been too great about keeping backups. Even to this day, I only keep one or two local backups and nothing on the "cloud".
So this was about 5 years ago. At the time, I was living together with my girlfriend - who would later become my wife. She had a son from a previous relationship, who at the time was 9 years old.
I had a small desk in the living room of our one-bedroom apartment, that I used for my computer, which has been a laptop for a long time now. One unfortunate thing about the layout of the apartment was that the wall plug near my desk was attached to a light switch.
I had a 2TB external hard drive - with its own power cable - plugged into my laptop. Then, things started to move in slow motion... The GF's son comes inside from playing, my GF asks him to turn off the light. He reaches over, and shuts off power to my laptop - and the external hard drive.
He must have hit that switch at JUST the right fucking time. The laptop ran on battery, no big deal. The hard drive, when I powered it back up - was wiped clean. I tried data recovery on it, but the HDD was encrypted, which makes things more complicated.
Needless to say, I was not happy. I never got that data back, but I did learn not to expose my hard drives to 9 year olds. Very dangerous little creatures.
You want to know the best part? He destroyed another hard drive of mine, a few years later. Should I tell that story?5 -
Fun fact you dumbass: YOU 👏🏻 DON'T👏🏻HAVE👏🏻TO👏🏻 REVIEW👏🏻THE 👏🏻PLACE
I get asked to review places I've never been all the fucking time. But like an adult with a BRAIN I swipe away.

Starting a new project tonight to help fellow teachers! First time actually using Github as well.... Interesting although I found it hard to get my head around!11

Making a Package Manager from Scratch is hard.
Making a Scratch-like education coding software in XAML is hard.
Setting up a server with zero knowledge is hard.
Creating a new file extension for my project and making it work is hard.
But, as a student,
studying and coding is the hardest thing.
Same 24 hours for everyone, and I should code as well as study.
Time.
The most precious thing in Earth.

Every time I hear my boss say "surely it can't be that hard" or "that's what, like a 5 minute job?"
*shudder*3 -
Why do users find it so hard to understand short and clear error messages that are in place to inform them what's going wrong? Why do they instead waste my time when the message clearly says that the password is too short and hasn't got any special characters? FFS!4

I updated the UI as I said last time
prettywordcloud.github.io
Found out word cloud essentially is NP hard problem, so can’t do it in an efficient way.
However, now it is more interactive, and gives the illusion it is faster23 -
Someone will have a hard time taking this non-existant tram out of service, and probably even harder to make the insurance company pay for nothing... oh well.8

CTO 3 months ago:
- You will get a raise after 9 months of work according to your KPI (98%) and bonus (size of one month pay check)
HR today:

FUCKITY FUCK, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I WORKED HARD AT NIGHTS AND SACRIFICED MY FREE UNPAID TIME FOR NOTHING, THANKS19 -
Today my RAID system for backups crashed. Three hard drives died all the same time. This day cannot get even worse.14

I recently started working with CI/CD in gitlab. I don't know why I had such a hard time getting it to work. I left it hanging for another day. Yesterday, before I went to sleep, I merged to master branch. On waking up I can't explain my happiness when I saw my pipeline... 😀6

Me: *downloaded wordpress for first time*
Me: *opens folder in Atom*
.php file: Hi there! Welcome to your new bl-
Me: *delete wordpress folder and reformats hard drive*4 -
I’m sick of these kinds of error messages. “Could not be downloaded at this time.” Ok...but why? Are the stars out of alignment? Did the CEO of the company decide that every other Tuesday at noon, you can’t download this app?
How hard is it to give a reason in the error message??3 -
I keep putting my phone between my mouse and the wireless receiver and every time it makes it hard to move the cursor because of the blockage. So annoying!!3

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!
HOW CAN SOMEONE BE A FREELANCER/WEB DEV AND TYPE SO FUCKING SLOW AND HAVE TROUBLE WITH FUCKING LETTERS ALL THE TIME?!
I'm gonna push this mother fucker so hard that he will learn not to "lie" in an interview never again and become a fucking dev.5 -
C : Cool (for me)
Java : Just A Variety Available (uhm.. no hard feelings java lovers)
Python : Please .. You THink On Nothing (You literally think on nothing xD )

Pathetic dev moments: Any time my macbook fans rev up, I worry that I'm working my baby too hard, so I start closing applications.3

Every time I see a cringe job post like this I internally scream hard. There, fixed it for them 🫡15
-
Me: I want to be a dev..
Mom: But you only sit in front of the computer to play games.
Me: That's not what I always do.
Mom: Then why are you sitting behind the computer all the time.
Me: To make software. Most of the time you clearly see me typing code.
Mom: No, I can't trust you, you play too much games. Study hard and get another job.
Me: *Middle finger behind a back.*5 -
No matter how hard requirement look or the thing you're going to develop JUST START THAT SHIT it will take time but you can and will do it.

My new motherboard (MSI Z170 GAMING AC) reports temps for the memory, CPU, GPU and hard drive in °C. And the motherboard temp in °F.
Almost had a fucking heart attack the first time I opened Speccy for benchmarking. -
Microsoft Azure down on a Friday at home time? Whoever tripped over that cable is probably trying awfully hard to slink out of the building unnoticed right about now2
-
My nipples are hard, as hard as diamond. For no fucking reason at all.
But aside from that important update, does anyone just get this absolute light-headed euphoria whenever they realize they've fixed a bug?
Like my god, its the best feeling. I've only fixed other people's bugs a few time, and even then I experienced it.13 -
Wrote some code that solved a program in a semi unique way for the codebase. As in not oft used functionality of language.
Some time later... This might be hard to understand. Maybe I should do a different way.
Some time later... No, I will leave a comment to describe what is going on.
Some time later... That comment is kind of cryptic. Maybe should rethink.
Some time later... No, if the next dev doesn't know how this works then they should learn how it works. (reasoning here is that the functionality requires a knowledge of internals of language)
Some time later... Also, if nobody else gets this then they have to ask me how it works. Job security?
Some time later... STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS CODE AND MOVE ON!6 -
What do we have to give you to make you able to accurately predict the scope and length of time it will take you to develop something you know nothing about and have no experience with? How hard could it possibly be? You click a button and BOOM! A unicorn! Please provide estimate in hrs EOD.3
-
So Microsoft, you tell me that there is a known bug, if you have Windows 10 with the newest update installed on a SSD and Apps running on another hard drive?! And this bugs causes random freezes of the whole PC from time to time?
WHAT THE FUCK?!
It is a common setup nowadays to have a SSD with windows 10 and software on other hard drives and you didn't care to check it before releasing the update? Which I HAVE to download and install?
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!8 -
Me trying to take a screenshot with iOS 12:
*holds home and presses lock* (the only way I had found to reliably take a screenshot in previous versions): Siri
Fuck off Siri I want a screenshot!
*tries again same way*: Siri
Fuck OFF Siri!
*holds lock + home*: phone locks
Christ almighty.
*unlocks phone, presses home and lock at the exact same time*
Nothing happens.
*continues holding* I just want my fucking screenshot.
Phone powers off. Hard reset.
Fuck this shit.
How hard is it to monitor two buttons being pressed at the same time? And if it is so damn hard why make it the ONLY WAY TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT??!
Now whenever I want a screenshot it’s basically a crapshoot whether I will get a screenshot, Siri barging in, or my phone locking on me.
Couldn’t they have just used the volume buttons instead? 😡12 -
SSH is the most basic thing a web developer should know.
Some people are just lazy to learn something and all they do is give hard time to other people.2 -
My company just installed app-operated locks in all doors. Let's say that I have a hard time taking security policies now.6

Just realized Windows 10 update "Restart Now" button doesn't have a confirmation/cancel screen unlike the normal power options.
Learned it the hard way when I just wanted to change the time it restarts and clicked restart now by accident.
Goes to show how forced these updates are .-.22 -
Unpopular opinion:
I currently work remotely, but as it's my first job I would love to work locally with other devs in a room... Motivating can be quite hard sometimes when you're alone.
(And I know this attitude will probably change once I worked locally some time)3 -
I have a second hard drive called "Windows" on my main system (for dual boot).
When I unmount it after I had to access it via Linux it says "You can remove Windows now".
Makes me smile every time.1 -
First time installing Linux on desktop, I’ve decided for Arch because I wanna learn. Skimmed through official guide, looks hard.
So exciting, I love computers!10 -
Parents - It’s so hard naming kids you know.
Me - At least it’s an one time job, try naming VARIABLES.6 -
So, this poor fucker right here has spent 3 hours straight trying to install KDE Neon AGAIN, FOR THE 14TH TIME AS OF TIME OF WRITING on an old 0.5TB hard drive with some GiB-wise partitioning size and apparently the disk doesn't like it.
Can someone give me a dildo so I can fuck myself more because life is not fucking me hard enough? No lube needed kthanksbye11 -
Everytime I don't sit in front of my code (and go for a walk or something), I immediately find bugs or things to improve from all the code I've written, IN MY HEAD. If you have a hard time finding bugs, try this, maybe. Might help.3

Why is Drupal so hard to learn?!!!!!!
It feels like you are learning an entirely new language. Yes it makes hard things simple, at the same time making simple things hard to accomplish.
And also modules are buggy, you would fix bugs instead of doing your tasks.
I want to learn Drupal but I guess it is not friendly for beginners like me.12 -
Best Hardware support team.
I hope every one of you got such team.
My keyboard was not working properly.
programmer's most used special character ; is auto typing anywhere that is obviously keyboard issue so I called H/W support team.
me: *explained above problem.*
supporter : Ya we know that issue ,YOUR HARD DRIVE IS CORRUPTED. We have 2 option
1) either we can formate your system.
2) We have to change hard drive.
Me thinking : *devrant stuff found*
Me: that is really sad part. How many time you solved such problem?
S: This is my first time in this company ,previously I solved such issue more than 10 time.
Me: you really look smart.
S: thank you,any how I will resolved this issue today.
Me: today I am going earlier but yes we will meet on monday. thank you for quick response.7 -
Everyone hates CSS
I'm a full-stack dev, I was considering CSS really hard to deal with for a long time. I have some friends who are bad at design and barely know how to use CSS and hate it.
Last year, I decided to learn CSS again after 6+ years of web development.
If you are a developer but hate CSS. maybe you should give it more time and learn it the right way.30 -
So my college is writing a desktop app (usually my domain), and he doesn't want to do internationalisation because of time constraints. HARD CODED STRINGS EVERYWHERE!11

So before the Age of JavaScript, when programming was trying to be an engineering discipline, I felt like we were getting close to figuring out what worked and what didn't. We had rules of thumb (more general than Patterns) and code smells.
Then JavaScript came in and no one had time to think about "engineering" anymore. I'm fine with MVP and small iterations, but the disdain I see for making code clean and extendable and improvable is baffling (and annoying). First-time coders might never have had to fix someone else's code, but two weeks in a chair should have fixed that.
It's not that understanding code is so hard (although it can be); understanding the _intent_ is hard. This MVP is great, but when no one had time to document what is actually supposed to happen, programmers have to reverse-engineer the *design*.4 -
Making an MVP is hard as hell. It's not even coding that makes it hard, it's knowing when to stop that's so damn difficult. By the time you're ready with something, your brain says "Hey...wouldnt it be great if you added this!" Then you add it, "whoa add this too!"...several days later:
Brain: "The fuck is this, all you needed was that"
😭😭😭7 -
I decided to start learning go yesterday.
I had a Fun little automation task at hand and got to work...
The next time I checked the clock it was monday 02:40 AM
Getting up at 06:10 was hard...2 -
I feel like we developers (and people who create things in general) are doomed to not have enough time 😥
I have to be honest, I've got a hard time dealing with that -
The hard part of participating in an open source project is finding out how to build it for the first time.2
-
Lesson learned the hard way: Remember your SSH Ports or write them down...
On the bright side of things, i had backups this time! Tyy DigitalOcean :)8 -
Mixing lazy loading with event-based code == events won't be handled because the class won't subscribe to events until it's initialized hours after startup
Thank you, my dear lazy-loading lover, who keeps introducing hard-to-spot bugs everywhere. I wish your hand was as lazy as your code, that would have saved hours of debugging time. -
from time to time i find it hard to organize my personal life. it appears that i forget stuff that does not seem important to me or just not interested in.
apart from my full time job i own a small business and try to maintain a more or less social life (as social as i can get with my dev background).
can you recommend any tools that you use to keep everything in line?12 -
Last day of internship:
"You will not become a developer, at best you will be a code writter".
That struck hard at the time.5 -
I love hard rock, heavy metal, thrash metal... But I can't concentrate listening Metallica or Slayer. I used to study with electronic music, but really I don't like this music. Finally I found a solution. I'm listening videogames soundtracks like Diablo or Ocarina of Time and I feel better with myself.
What a nostalgic feeling!!!3 -
So, I just started learning OOP(Object-Oriented Programming) and my brain hurts. like I maybe understood 10% of the information I just consumed. Is that a thing? Is OOP hard for people the first time around? Am I just dumb? Hell, it wouldn't be the first time14
-
Here's an advice to you guys:
Ever look at your mailbox and think it's so full of junk?
Archive all your current emails.
Then next time you get any spam emails take the time to unsubscribe or block the sender.
Trust me, life is so much better after you've got rid of those craps. And it's not that hard like it seems. In a week you'll probably get rid if 90% of those.3 -
Anyone else having a hard time switching between languages? :/
if(this.isActive and this.isVisible):
...
Java, JS and SQL at work, Python in my own projects...10 -
CTO for the picture.
This is so real, people are having a bad time because of the covid-19, productivity could be affected by this, my colleagues are having a hard time since they cant realy separate work from work anymore, the situation is hard as it is, i hope we all get through this.
Please Give Loving Comments below so i can show this to my dev/non dev friends that are having a hard time.11 -
Have you noticed that mac users rarely use full screen mode? Its so hard to use that they just leave half sized windows, its so annoying when I have to ask every time if they can make it bigger17
-
I think my hard drive is going to die.
My laptop takes 15 minutes to start up and it takes a fucking long time to open any program but once they're opened they run pretty well... And it does since two weeks ago!
This is a hdd related problem, isn't it?13 -
How do you judge the ability of the candidates during the interview?
Sometimes I find it hard to score their ability. I have seen some candidates with x years on paper yet does not know git more than push and pull.
Also there are few who didnt do very well at the interview, however we hired and doing quite well at work.
(As I also had a hard time getting a job before, I sometimes feel bad to reject some who seems to have good personality but didnt do well at work)5 -
Do you live alone? Do you work hard and barely have time to do things?
Please tell me how you eat 3 meals of healthy food. If you do of course..9 -
just need to say this: It's GNU/Linux folks. I know, I know, it's not as easy to say when you want to talk about it, but every once in a while give the damn GNU a little credit. Without it we might not have Linux as we know it, so show some love from time to time, it's not that hard to say GNU/Linux.12
-
I won't talk shit about frameworks and libraries anymore, tried to make mine myself and it's damn hard, needs to pour a lot of time in the making, a lot of research, etc.5
-
People have a hard time realizing we do have to cover (at least try) all the possibilities... Yes ma'am I do have to know everything beforehand...
-
As of late I'm creating private game servers on my local network in my free time for fun / relaxing
I've already running:
a World of Warcraft vanilla;
Travian version 3;
And I am currently working on a conquer online private server, but getting the right client for it is the hard part...4 -
Spent ten plus years professionally coding, used c, go , python, openwhisk ,docker, kubernetes and God know what else. Now I have to convince those team members who coded so far in their free time that write fucking clean code, avoid dependency on distributed and hard coded configuration, how to build a product
Fuck my life2 -
Okay, friends. I have a challenge. Who can make the sneakiest memory leak example? I need to stump a class of students with something only valgrind can find and I'm having a hard time.5
-
Its hard for a developer. Started to learn a new framework or CMS. By the time one gets familiar and fluent, a new and better one is already out.2
-
Having a hard time in an internal test of our app. I thought all okay, but there is some bug, every time. Internal test team, well done.
-
Ability to ask the right question the first time.
Sometimes the hardest part of development work is first understanding the question that’s needed.. the answer isn’t typically hard to formulate from there. -
Why is it so hard to convice coworkers (other programmers) to use source control? Yes it's an extra step every day or so but it can be so helpful and save so much more time tracking down versions and when the bug first appeared. Also, piece of mind if your computer every gets hosed.7
-
Each time my colleague pronounces “integer” with a hard “g”, I feel like cutting my ears off with a rusted and blunt hacksaw. Anything to make it stop!17
-
Most ridiculous reason you have been sacked...go!
Had a 1:1 about performance, said i was not performing well, showed them proof, they took the proof and sacked me anyway.
The real reason because the fuck headed lead dev stepped over the line for the last time and i laid into him pretty hard.1 -
I'm getting beat up pretty bad by Rust. I like it so far but man is it hard. Imposter-syndrome is almost making me lose motivation. Almost, but I won't quit, one day I'll get there.
I think the primary reason I think I'm having such a hard time is that I'm trying to learn stuff that prevents me from making some mistakes that I have never run into. I know a bit of the theory but no hand's on experience on double-free errors, memory leaks and weird low-level stuff. I read the documentation, mostly understand what stuff is for but when I go write code I'm just like "now what?". I don't have enough experience to know when and where to use some concepts and I'm super lost. I don't know where to start and the feeling of being completely overwhelmed by all sorts of new stuff is at the same time exciting and frightening.
I have never, as a programmer, thought something was hard. All of my past knowledge required dedication, work and patience, but I wouldn't say I ever felt something was *hard*. But Rust... damn. Rust is hard.
Hopefully at the end of this super steep learning curve I'll know a lot more stuff and have stronger "dev powers" and be one step closer to being as knowledgeable as some of you guys around here to whom I look up to.2 -
Excel is the best worsy fucking software. It has every feature you can think of except the one you actually need. Every time I use I end up yelling at my poor laptop. Even things that should be simple are made impossibly hard and unmanageable.6
-
Lesson Learned: Don't ever be so ambitious that you are no longer realistic about your abilities. I remember when I started out, I would give unbelievably short TTC estimates for medium/hard tasks that would undoubtedly take some time.3
-
Being 26 learning to code with intention to do it for a living is hard, I wish I never gave up the first time I attempted to learn a programming language when I was 16 I'd probably be making a shit ton of money...12

Same as the year before.
Trying hard to achieve good grades in school. Nothing special. The usual shit, as you can see...
Thanks for taking your time and read my unnecessary post anyways ;) -
It's the first time I've heard someone pronounce kubectl as kubecuttle....
How hard is it to say kjub-cee-tee-el?12 -
In two weeks of christmas holidays my brain had enough time to fire the guy that was in charge of my sleep pattern and to hire a new guy with less experience that is really trying hard to fix the mess that has been left for him.
Went to bed at 5am...
Woke up at 9am...
I'm getting there!4 -
My manager wants to have a conversation about my attitude. Time to explain that when I worked hard I got no pay rise, I only got a promotion because I lost my rag at him when he was being an arse. I have no motivation to do anything other than the bare minimum.30

Fuck!!!
I want to kill myself.
I just had the 2nd try for the math exam and I'll likely also not pass this time,
Means 1 try left and then i have to drop out of college.
I even did prepare way better this time than for the first try, and still the exam was so damn hard.4 -
Been thinking about how to detect sounds for weeks and finally got enough time and motivation to do a Google search... and find an entire example....
All that thinking and worrying for nothing.... now i just gotta figure out how to install PyAudio.... hope it's not hard.... or maybe I already have it installed....8 -
Sometimes I wish I could clone myself 3 times and start a company. Not that I think that I'm that smart, I'm fucking clueless most of the time. But because it's so hard to find people who freaking READ THE DOC!2

After I took some time off from work, I decided to accept the offer for maintenance of two projects. Those are from two old clients, so I think I will not stress too much, since I know what to expect most of the time.
The issue is, sometimes I have a hard time to keep concentration. In the past, I could work for 3h straight, totally focused, would pause for 20min for stretch, and then come back to work. Now I can only focus for 30min or 1h, and after a pause, it's hard to concentrate again.
There is a lot going on in my life right now, and I know the worry is probably distracting me. I'm trying to listen instrumental music, drinking coffee... But that's not enough. Somebody has any tip?6 -
What on earth are some developers thinking. Was just browsing the Casio website, using Chrome and noticed the following message. How hard is it to display a message when actually needed, instead of all the time. Good watches, poor development :/2

I got a job without trying very hard... Unless your consider all the time I spend coding hobby projects trying.3

Who knew that NOT using results given from an API can actually help.
The private devRant APIs give you offsets in text of where links are in comments and in rants.
It’s EXTREMELY inaccurate and I don’t understand why it’s so hard to write it so it’s accurate 100% of the time.
So I said fuck it and NOT use the given offsets and just hard-find using the built-in algorithms inside Swift to create the range for me. Results? It works 100% of the time. No crashes, no out-of-range errors, no nothing.8 -
The time at university I was kind of burned out all the time.
I was far away from being a hard-working student, I needed more than double time to finish, but I constantly had a feeling of being stressed.
My free time never felt like free time because I thought I should learn/do something for the university.
Now at work, I can spend my free time without feeling guilty. Sure, I also have to think about problems at work sometime and I still should learn something to get better, but now I can focus on stuff I'm really interested in.2 -
Getting real tired of people posting meetings only for you to join when they end. How hard is it to have you meeting at the time you set it for? Holy shit!1

Wow.... FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!
I just destroyed my raspberry. Miscalculated the resistor I need and RiP. Took 2 seconds and BOOOOM. Nothing is working anymore :( 2 weeks of wasted free time. Guess I'll have to buy a new one. Want to finish my project so hard10 -
Anyone ever wondered how hard it is to fill feedbacks and performance growth of your own, which the manager will be evaluating..
The situation is so ironic.. u want to write the best about you, but don't want to look like bragging abt yourself in the same time..4 -
No matter the hard work you want to do, how much time you want and really spend to complete something, always a scumbag project manager will set the dates so that you won't make it in f*ing time!! Really now, it is frustrating!!
Well, I moved to a new company and all seems vanilla. But you know. Now I have this lesson to remind myself.4 -
Funny story: Me and my dev friend once had a hard time setting up a PS3 controller even though we were two CS majors11

Why is it so hard to remember, that devs need an error message if they should help you. just saying "it does not work" is not helping.
I even wrote you a checklist. so f*ing use it! I'm not there to be called every time just to tell you to do something that's already on this list.
Every. F**ing. Time.2 -
Why do I have a hard time finding a new job when senior devs are not only changing the data model, but naming keys "key" and "value"!?
"Oh look, a SQL error."2 -
Just been cleaning out an old cupboard and found the book that really helped me to understand OOP ... Python for absolute beginners .. Before I picked it up, I was having a hard time getting my head around it all. Good times, good book :)

Years ago was the first time I put custom firmware on our wndr3700 router, it hasn't crashed since.
I bought a wndr4700, faster, 5ghz, possibility for a hard drive.
It's been 3 years and still no custom firmware. -
I've been watching that "Mr Robot" lately, and its warped my sensibilities. Now, whenever I see something ridiculous, like "I've got the hard drive here" (holds up PSU), I'm irrationally angry and won't watch the rest of the show. I wish more producers would spend the time to build that sort of realism4

Hi!
*Looking for free advice*
I'm going to buy a MacBook Pro.
I'm having a hard time in choosing whether I should buy 2015 one or the 2016 one. Is not having enough ports really such a big issue?
Also, is there going to be a new MacBook Pro launch at the WWDC? :p5 -
1 year into the project, spending nights fixing issues, but
today the client realises that things aren’t working out and we need to stop the project. 🙃

First time setting up a linux distro for myself I decided to do it on an external hard drive. Accidentally formatted the whole thing. Lost 200gb of anime.

You will get far more rejections than acceptance. A lot of the time it has more to do with the interviewer and not the candidate (assuming the candidate is a genuine hard worker). The job search process is similar in this regard to finding a mate or compiling your code.

wish can do coding in fix hours :(
Learning react .. just took one cup of tea in morning.. and dang its 8pm :( No idea about the time.. react giving me hard time. maybe am newbie ..

I'm astounded. I just took a crack at some PHP logic that would be easy for a lot of you but hard for my math-and-logic-challenged brain.
It worked.

I would ask the question of how hard can life get but last time i asked that, life showed me how hard can life get and that was just the tip of the iceberg

Coding is easy, but it's the logic which gives us a hard time. Because in the end what we write needs to make sense or it's tits up for everyone.1

Why has authentication of web services to be so fucking complicated?
PAM, OpenID, LDAP, SSO...
Every fucking service supports something different and I have a hard time finding a decent tutorial on LDAP and the likes.5 -

I also wrote very shitty code but I know that would've been hard to avoid, so it's cool. -

I still have a second hard drive, but I'm too lazy to move either my steam games or my programs over there...

One week ago I've made a work plane to divide features development day by day, obviously procrastinating
This morning I realized the project release was today
I made an entire mobile app with a plethora of features without bugs in an afternoon.
Never worked so hard in a so limited time without problems.
Loved it.1 -
Network code is hard. Events come all the time and it's really difficult to account for all orderings and uncanny timings. Have you got any advice, book or paper about it that I should read?

Hello dear fellow programmers,
Lately I'm faced with an issue: i can't code. It takes me a really long time to get my codeengine running and it stops on the first occasion, it either be a cigarette pause, a question from a coworker or what ever.
I love code and I have a blast when I start but I have a hard time starting it.
What to do? I'm a bit at a loss here1 -

Becoming a dev is hard, what was the thing that motivated you the most in your journey?
Currently coding as a hobby, but hoping to turn this passion into a full time job someday.
Also, why is devRant so obsessed with hentai?17 -
Every developer thrives to be the best. But, it's not only the skills, hard work or knowing infinite languages makes you the best. It only makes you the good.
Along with skills, hard work & the languages, the best one needs to have those instincts about the possible solutions to a problem and ability to decide and implement the most efficient solution cleanly in least amount of time.
I'm thriving to be the best. Are you?3 -
Is it harder to work a full time dev job or be a full time CS student with a part time dev job? I’m currently living the second one and it’s hard to balance both work and school.7

Adding a couple functions to free software, rebranding, then selling to customers.
I know that there are other companies that do this, but still feels like stealing from the authors and ripping off customers at the same time.
Maybe I am too sensitive, but I'm deeply disturbed by this and I'm having a really hard time getting work done.5 -
*me to myself* okay this time I'm not solving that problem with recursion. The assignment is hard enough already.

Java apparently thinks it would be too convenient if we would use comparison operators on enumerations.
If you have to use the .ordinal() every time you want to do such a thing, you make the code uglier that you're trying to clean up to begin with!
Time to do this the hard way:
public static final int YELLING = 0;
public static final int SCREAMING = 1;

There was this time when I had to solo a couple of group projects. I worked so hard to the point I felt like barfing whenever I sit down in front of my desk and see code. I thought to myself: screw this career!4

It was back in 2010, they told me to build a simple CRUD system, habe me 2 hours, just to see the code structure/style.
Was it hard? No! I handed it in after 30min, the remaining time I got to talk to the devs. Was nice. No bullshit, no whiteboard, just a laptop and an IDE.6 -
Am I the only one that has a hard time with front end development? I'm trying to learn Qt using PySide and it's kicking my ass.12

I've been reading about quantum computing in finance and other applications (fascinating read, althought really dense), but one question now won't stop bugging me.
Context:
1) Blockchain applications are based on NP-Hard asymmetric cryptographic problems, and how hard it is to solve such problems in a really short time.
2) So called "Web3.0" is based mostly on Blockchain applications, but would still need significant advances in order to be practical.
3) Affordable and practical cloud-based quantum computing is not so far in the future, and could be used to crack most NP-Hard problems in short (polynomial) time.
Thus, my question: Is Web3.0 obsolete before it even begun?
I mean, if quantum computing takes on fast enough, it could snuff out Blockchain applications by giving those a shelf life so short it wouldn't be worth to delevolp for it. It would be like announcing the iPhone 14 and the 15 on the same breath, saying the 15 is only a quarter away - why would anyone bother with the born-obsolete tech?5 -
A colleague of mine said that functional programming should be banned by law. He finds it so hard and at the same time the only language he knows is JavaScript

What do you guys use to write unit tests in C? I look at some libs such as check, cmocka, gtest etc, but they all seem like way more than I need. Also, I have a hard time to separate test files and source code files (directory structure wise).
Any recommendations?5 -
I never thought that my usual lunch buddies/co-interns leaving would cause me to have a hard time coping up. I'm very unproductive these past three days. I feel so sad.

Thank you React...for making easy things easier, hard things easier, and medium level things so flipping overkill that somewhere in the world a developer loses their wings every time you type "setState".

Recently i finished college and got a job as an ASP.NET dev in a company.
The company uses ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core and angular.
I've worked with flask, express and PHP but very new to C# and .NET.
I've learned C# but I'm having hard time understanding ASP.NET.
The documentation seems very hard for me.
Could someone please suggest some resources for asp.net and .net core6 -
Every time I see this kind of flow:
1) Insert a new record
2) Get MAX(Id) as the inserted records Id
3) Operate with the result (possibly adding related entities and such)
I sigh so hard, it hurts.1 -
Don't you just love those people who sell projects which require months and months of hard work with a due date of two whole fucking months?! And worst of all, they act all fucking surprised when the project is not finished on time and it contains loads of bugs because of lack of testing time. Drives me insane..

Ubuntu mate looks good. But man its so hard to remove it. A simple apt-get remove didnt do the trick. Spent a long time removing all packages. Still it is there in the login screen. Let it stay there. I am tired.4

I'm considering leaving my current job, but am afraid that I might have a hard time transitioning into a new employer given the pandemic and all.

While its really hard to get code wrong in Rust, it is also really hard to get code right in Rust. It took me a considerably long time to write a code which returns the first word in the sentence
I felt the borrow checker introduces a steep learning curve into Rust which is otherwise a beautiful language according to me. C++, my current favorite language, also suffers the same problem with respect to certain language features.3 -
Fucking windows not releasing my hard drive. I was in a kind of a hurry, but you just have to be a pain in the arse. Now I even have to wait for you to fix an indexing error for something I did not agree to?
FUCKING BULLSHIT, MY DUDE NEXT TO ME USING LINUX WAS USING IT JUST FINE!
I want enough time to replace this garbage.
By the time I got here, it finished scanning for errors. NO. FUCKING. ERRORS. FOUND. FUCKING. WASTE. OF. TIME. -
I'm currently working as an intern in a Web company and its the first time that I have to work 8 hours a day (I'm in college so that's completely new to me).
How do you guys stay focused for 8 hours? It's kinda hard to go from 90 minutes classes to 8 hours of (somewhat) consistent work.
How do I focus for a long period of time?7 -
Why the *fuck* does everyone think every single paragraph should be centered? Yeah, sure, components, icons, things that are presentation, sure most of the time you want that centered. But not *every* time. And, especially, never when the content is body copy text. That shit is hard to read, dammit! And yet I swear every single non-technical person and marketer I've known wants everything to be centered.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY -
When I first got started in web development I had to think really hard to write code to solve real world problems. It was rewarding and creative process. Nowadays most of my time is spent just trying to get bloated frameworks and plugins to play nice with one another! I hope the pendulum swings back at some point.

If you have a hard time remembering your password, just make it the error message you would typically receive. For example, if you type in an incorrect password it will tell you "your password is incorrect" aha you can quickly remember that your password is in fact "incorrect".2

Having hard time to make my friend understand that you don't need to build everything from scratch and we can get started for free with commercial solutions for speech recognition and only pay when we have a decent userbase. I'm so happy. A month ago I started my apprenticeship, today I published the first version of my application for my company in the Google Play Store.
It was a hard time, but it was very interessting and I never thought that I can code an app in this short time (I also had 2 weeks school in this 4-5 weeks).1 -
I transitioned from js to c# about 4 weeks ago for my first job in the industry. It has been a really rough 3 weeks for someone who hasn't had any OOP experience. I've been trying really hard to ramp up, but I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around some of the advance c# topics (e.g. interface, extension methods, etc.) Does anyone have good resources or advice to help me get my feet wet?4

How do you guys concentrate for a long time? Do you use a timer or what do you do. I get a hard time concentrating more then 30 minutes. After that it's hard to get back into the flow.3

Saw my colleague debugging. He's got a try-catch, then I asked, "Why aren't you logging the stack trace?". He answered, "I don't cause it will be a security risk". So there he was having a hard time debugging.🤯
Can you guys confirm if what he said is true?4 -
fucking muscle memory added a '^' to "git reset --hard head".
at least it gets faster when you have to write it a second time, but I lost about 20 files -
No matter how hard I try within a certain time window only certain options are available and unless I practically kill myself
Its difficult to push hard and far enough to get blessedly out of sync with the slave machine -
I am in my final year of CSE degree, and it's that time of the year when I have to prepare for placements. I need motivation. I need to work hard. I need to push hard. I am not sure if I can practice hundreds of coding problem. I do not find every other question interesting. Please motivate me to work hard.1

Advent of code is a bit crap this year. These early problems aren't hard per-se, they're just annoyingly time consuming for early day problems.

Yes but you see this function everywhere so why is it so hard for us to implement?
Next time i’m gonna say that this function is everywhere, but why is it so difficult to design? -
Trying to learn AdonisJS. Looks like a really cool framework, but having a really hard time how all of it really comes together. I get the model-view-controller philosophy that Adonis abides by, but not really how it's implemented.

Anyone done much iterating through spreadsheets in node?
I haven't done it before, I don't expect it to be super hard, but at the same time I'm wondering if anyone here has gone down this path and found a route they liked, tips, etc.1 -
I find playing online games very interesting. It can support me to feel relaxed everyday after a tiring time of learning at school. I usually like to play online chess. It is exciting and challenging. It also helps me to make friends online. It helps me to think over everything before acting. However, I always limit my time playing online games. Because I think playing too many online games makes me tired. My eyes are often soring. My mother always reminds me to study hard, so I know what is most important to me. Playing online games only helps me to relax a little. So I advise you to work hard at school, and just spend a little time playing online games, no matter how much you like it.4

It's almost all the time but specially when there is a stupid bug i find out in production after all the efford i put on testing before release, or even worst, when the bug is not stupid, is random and just hard to tell why the fuck everything is fucked up

Start learning to code with a project that is close to your hard, will make time fly and you'll learn to code much better in the same go.

It's always hard to balance time between romantic affairs and programming projects when both are going on simultaneously. I've been talking to a girl at my college, and even though she doesn't take up much of my time, I still feel like it's harder to make time for my programming. I guess this is more of dating affecting my code, but I personally prioritize code over dating currently in life.

Being worst in relationships and having hard time in debugging on a simple query with multiple table joins was an disaster for me

I'm a student and I love cms systems. So now I want to create my own website on top of one. I know html CSS JS and PHP. Can someone recommend a cms that is not so hard to learn? I know I will need time. But I appreciate fast solutions. They boost my motivation to move on :)9

It very hard to manage artifacts on gocd and it's fucking 16 gb and i am having hard time to manage this.
I thought documentation will help but it says you have to manually manage artifacts. -
Not a rant, but has anyone here had any experience developing a StyleGuide?
I'm looking at building one that could document JavaScript and AngularJS as well as CSS etc.
Having a hard time finding a generator/tool that would work.
If not I'll look into building one myself... 😬4 -
Anyone know what's the current situation with part-time jobs in the web development field? I want a job but I'm in college so full-time is a no-no. I've been trying to find something part-time (internships mostly) but I'm not a US citizen (some sites require that) and I'm looking for something remote, and that's been pretty hard to find. Any ideas where I can look for this stuff or if such jobs even exist?
The best I've managed to find are full-time internships, I tried applying to them seeing if I can work part-time instead but no one mailed back :( -
