I'm happy the announce the official devRant bug/feature suggestion tracker, now on GitHub!
It just went live, and you can find it here: https://github.com/devRant/devRant
Going forward, please use that issue tracker for all bug reports and feature suggestions. We decided to move bugs/features reports to GitHub because we've had a lot of people tell us they'd prefer that method since it makes tracking issues easier, and we also think it will improve searchability and maintainability of current bugs and feature suggestions.
Since we're starting from scratch with it, if there's a bug/feature that you're interested in submitting, and it's not already there, then please go ahead and add it! Even if it's been suggested before in a rant, we want to get them in the GitHub issue tracker, so please add it there too.
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, and we hope this new method makes it easier to see what bugs we're working on fixing and makes it easier to see and discuss possible new features!46 -
Person: What do you do for a living?
Programmer: I'm an etymologist
Person: What does that mean?
Programmer: I work with bugs7 -
Similarities between this spider and me:
- We both are web developers
- We both live in same room
- We both try to find bugs everyday11 -
Just got BUGS list from our Client and fuck- 95% of bugs are not even bugs :|
- No, changing the (not pre-decided) verbiage is not a bug
- Adding two more pages in the app is not a bug (what the fuck :|)
- No, APK file not running in iPhone is not a bug (goddamn :|)
- No, adding these "fuckin new" functionalities is not a bug (seriously ? :/)
AND
Mr "used to be a good coder" PM,
Getting "504 Timeout Gateway" error because Server is temporarily down is NOT a fuckin frontend bug
And No, writing Javascript with a proper design architecture is not a "complicated" way of coding
and fuckin No, Global variables and functions without any architecture don't make the programming "kind of better"
ps: And VB dot net is not a fuckin scripting language, VBScript is.
Thank you,
"buggy average coder"9 -
Whenever I need to find bugs in my product, mostly mobile applications, I give it to my 5 year old son and say "Go, do your thing!"5
-
Does anyone else have that one guy or gal you work with that's ALWAYS the one to find the weirdest, inexplicable bugs possible? Yup. That's me. Here's some fun examples.
*Unplugs monitor from laptop, causing kernel panic*
*Mouse moves in reverse when inside canvas*
*Program fails to compile, yet compiler blames a syntax error that doesn't exist*
*malloc on the first line of a program causes a segfault*
And for how the conversation usually goes
Me: "[coworker], mind taking a look at this?"
Coworker: "Sure. This better not be another one of 'your bugs'. ... ... ... Well, if you need me I'll be at my desk."
Me: "So you know what's causing it?"
Coworker: "Nope. I've accepted that you're cursed and you should do the same."8 -
For years I worried I was not a good programmer because of bugs, issues and not giving accurate timescales.
Then I discovered devRant and realised that there’s thousands of us that have the same issues.19 -
My colleague just committed some code with description "improved some bugs"
...should I be worried? 😂7 -
Police officer McDucky reporting for duty. Hope we catch a lot of pesky bugs and complete projects.3
-
Fucking developers putting emojis in their code!
My terminal (st) doesn't support displaying emojis and it crashes immediately once it read an emoji. I have been chasing crashing bugs for weeks and I just found out where the issue is.19 -
Am I the only one who solves more bugs in my head on the commute home from work than I actually do at work?10
-
99 bugs in the code. 99 bugs in the coooode. Squish one out, patch it around. 128 bugs in the code.4
-
I want to go back to the times where "bugs" were beetles and grasshoppers, nothing related to code or computers.
Why did I sell my soul to programming???
And most importantly, why doesn't my code work???12 -
OMFG!! I just discover a fucking bug in a library used by thousand of people in scientific community!! 🤩🎉
Started when my program outputting strange result. I was in a huge fight with my supervisor about one of the function from the library. My hunch was telling me that this function is the source of the problem, but he insisted that no such bugs could exist in the library that has been used by thousands of people.
I couldn't reproduce the bug so I just stayed silent at that time,
But now, I finally got the bug showing. Yeah I am gonna shove it to his face next week.✊
I will also let the people who maintain the library know.
Feels so good being able to be a contributor PR to this famous library 😎
The downside is now I can't use this function, I have to implement by own function.5 -
Overheard this conversation today:
1: look at this! My shiny new iPhone can measure stuff!
2: how accurate is it?
1: not very, it is pretty buggy.
2: how did the bugs get in there?
3: it is an apple so4 -
A quick advice to new developers. Never and I mean NEVER do a "quick edit" or "beautification" extremely close to a deadline. You should not underestimate the power of bugs.3
-
I'm fixing bugs.
I'm creating new bugs.
I'm simultaneously fixing bugs and creating bugs.
I'm Schrodinger's coder.3 -
The worst kind of bugs are logical ones, they go undetected, no error, no alert, and when you notice them, it's too late.3
-
So this morning I went to go brush my teeth while half awake. It wasn't until I almost put the brush in my mouth when I felt something moving on my hand, then I saw that the entire head of my brush was swarming with ants. I immediately dropped the brush and almost yelled out loud.
But this was nothing compared to the amount of bugs I saw when I opened my Visual Studio.2 -
The One thing every Dev should know about:
Never Push to production on Friday.
Coworker pushed to production yesterday.
Customer saw it and likes the new features.
Customer also saw a shitpile of Bugs.
Customer is angry and my weekend is runined -
A really neat short film by JetBrains about bugs and how they are fixed. I wish this would be reality ^^
https://youtube.com/watch/... -
When starting a project at work:
My name everywhere. Every file, every change-list I proudly put my name to prove my skills.
Program goes for validation:
Thousands of bugs.
Realize that I've written shit code. Slowly removing my names from all over the code. -
Two friends and I are about to publish a side project in two weeks (for an open Beta) it feels good but I am kind of nervous...
Today I found new bugs and I don't know yet if we have the time to fix them all...
Do you have any tips / experience you could share with me?13 -
Sitting at home debugging code for the fun of it when... "I would debug 500 bugs, and I would debug 500 more. Just to be the man who debugged a thousand bugs to fall asleep on the floor."1
-
I wish my clients would stop reporting "bugs" in my app that are legitimate results calculated from crap feed to it by their upstream systems.
Just because my app is easy to use it's the first place that they find out that their ecosystem is fundamentally broken.
GIGO, people.1 -
We're 2 months away from going live.
This has repeated for several weeks now :
Monday : 17 issues (aka bugs, incomplete features)
Work work work.
Friday : 7 issues
Nice. Lets get a good weekend rest and finished this next week.
Next Monday : 17 issues.
QA found some new bugs or some already resolved issues came back with different details.
...and repeat. Exact numbers, plusminus 1 or 2.7 -
[PM] - "Hey, <that guy> is joining our team for the next 6 sprints"
[Me] - "Really?, <that guy>? You want bugs? Cos' that's how you get bugs"1 -
Happens every day:
"could you please fix those bugs ASAP? Testers are waiting for it"
*resolve the issue and inform the requester*
(two weeks later)
"Thanks, I'll inform the testers they can begin their tests"
Ugh, how ASAP makes everything seem so urgent and important -
My day in one sentence: I found about 20 ways in which my code doesn't work as expected.
I hate these days, where you spend 80% of the time debugging and always find tiny new bugs.5 -
Dear Santa, please bring me a compiler that generates compile errors instead of runtime bugs. Thanks.10
-
Salesman: "The new version is super impressive for <10 minutes of verbal bullet points>"
Me: Have you fixed any of the bugs we reported in the current version?
Salesman: "Don't worry, the new version uses a totally new codebase, so there are no bugs in it."3 -
Rant::aboutMyself(my_code){
Wrote 500+ lines of code without proper documentation. Got 200 little bugs. Got frustrated. Gave up on code. Started documenting it. Step by step. Resolved many silly mistake while documenting the code. Completed documentation. Run the program . Bugs reduced to 10. I'm sooo happy. I LOVE DOCUMENTATION 😍
}2 -
Happened at work a few months ago (I'm new to devRant, that's why I post this now):
"I have bugs!" - "Then fix them..." - "No, come here and have a look, I have bugs!"
He literally had a bunch of very small insects inside of his monitor, don't ask me how they got there.1 -
Before production deployment: Everything is running well, all bugs are fixed, serenity sets in.
Production deployment day: Fire everywhere
goddamit we don't get a fucking break2 -
My FAVORITE bugs are those in someone ELSE's code that MY code depends on. Like an API that won't respond correctly when I FOLLOW THE DOCUMENTATION EXACTLY. 😐1
-
I don't know who this "you" guy is on all of these git blames, but he's a real asshole for writing all of these bugs.1
-
Have you ever heard the story of the first bug in software development?
The first documented bug was actually a bug. There was a moth trapped inside the computer causing the bugs.
source: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/...8 -
A woman has bugs in her home, she wants to find a bug hunter to get rid of them. She calls a man who does bug hunting, he comes to her house and says: "I am a bug hunter, you called me. Where's your laptop?"
Woman confused as she is asks the man: "Why do you need a laptop to hunt and get rid of the bugs?"
"Well how else am I going to debug those bloody programs you wrote?"
Note: I promise I made this up, if anyone else already posted this, I wasn't aware.3 -
There are two type of bugs that will keep you awake all night.
Mosquitos and bugs in the code.
Both equally annoying1 -
My job in a nutshell:
*fixes app, so it's working 99% bug free*
*Chrome update*
*app is full of bugs*
*fixes bugs*
*iOS 10 comes out*
*app is full of bugs*
*fixes bugs*
"we can now remove iOS7 support"
*removes code*
*app is full of bugs*
For fucks sake!!2 -
The first things a person tells me when I come over to help them:
10%: I don't understand what to do
15%: Why is there an error? (mostly typos)
15%: I don't understand this error. (debugging required)
60%: Wtf, why is it working now?
I feel like my sole presence makes bugs disappear 😎3 -
Bugs in code are like heartbreaks in humans. They suck, but they also teach you some important lessons 🤷♂️4
-
Awesome! New server!
With a newer version of MySQL
With new bugs on my websites
Seriously, this new version destroyed all the queries6 -
This week's sprint:
Bugs that cannot be reproduced
Features that are vague as shit
Man fuck this week...1 -
My dev superpower would be finding bugs instantly, because I think looking for bugs is the most time consuming part in programming.1
-
Fixing bugs in programming is like scoring a touchdown when you really didn't even know you had the ball, or where the end zone is.1
-
[...] we should never ignore any part of code. The parts we ignore are where the bugs will hide.
- Uncle Bob1 -
Once upon a time, devs were evaluated on the number of source lines of code written, and how many bugs were found and fixed. Needless to say, a ten line piece of code became 150 lines, a couple of bugs would be thrown in for good measure.4
-
Do you have a "I don't write bugs" colleague? Put your language equivalent of this around their code and wait.
try:
# their code
except Exception:
print('lmao')4 -
If Batman was a full time programmer in Dark Knight, "Bugs are not complicated, Alfred. Just need to figure out why they're after" 😂
-
Sometimes, when bugs get a bit out of hand... You have to counter them with better debugging methods 🐥2
-
So yesterday I was testing my friend's app which as said by him is 100% okay.
I found 48 major bugs and reported him. His reaction was "Dude these are just minor issues and client don't even know about it. See there is some real bugs?"
RIP to the app developer and the client. -
When your co developer asks for you to check out her website and tell her any bugs you notice, I then proceed to give her 8 bugs in her code and she freaks out on me lol
Maybe your not as perfect as you think you are....3 -
To code or to rant--that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler on mind to suffer the bugs and errors of outrageous source code or to post them on devRant2
-
99 little bugs in the code
99 little bugs
Take one down and pass it around
127 little bugs in the code2 -
Windows phone used to be a great OS.... Why Microsoft Why!!! Windows 10 have more bugs than my first computer science program e.e7
-
Bugs fixed, bugs have been fixed, bugs removed, daily bug fixing, bugs have been weekly fixed, update, daily update, weekly update, ...9
-
I want to lose some weight and tone some dormant muscles. So I decided that I'll do some pushups and crunches every time I run into a bug with which I'm struggling. Seeing as I write more bugs than stable code, I should be ripped in no time.2
-
There are devs who are chill. Then there's me. Deadlines give me anxiety. Being responsible for the code I didn't write and being blamed for the bugs I inherited stress me out.3
-
This is what they teach in management schools apparently
0 bugs - Dev doesn’t exist
1 bug - There’s a bug!
2 bugs - There’s many bugs
3 bugs - There’s so many bugs
4+ bugs - The app is full of bugs5 -
Most satisfying bug I fixed?
Indentation bug in python after searching hours for the bug. Yes, indentation bugs still happen in 2018. Thanks to TDD I failed fast otherwise it would take way longer to find the bug. -
Managers don't understand that there will ALWAYS be bugs shipped to production, no matter how hard you try to prevent or test against them.
Devs: lol
inb4 any comments really, i've seen facebook, instagram, and all the 'big players' crash and have bugs multiple times before, so don't go around swinging your dick like your company's software has no known bugs (don't even get me started on the devrant mobile app) I'm just saying bugs are a fact of software8 -
Something I came across recently
"Without requirements or design, programming is the art of adding bugs to an empty text file." -- Louis Srygley1 -
Developing in your local environment? A few bugs here and there. Deploying it to production in a completely different environment? The whole app is a bug...3
-
Code of developer's life
int f = 1;
If( life == "smooth")
problems();
else if( life =="hard")
{
problems();
breakup();
}
else
{
while (f = 1)
{
bugs();😣
}
}15 -
Very important lesson I learned while working with Xcode:
Always have multiple major versions installed and ready to be used.
Xcode 9 can't convert old Swift 2.2 project to Swift 4 and can't open the "old" project? Xcode 7 can help you.
Xcode 9 crashes randomly while moving top level packages? Xcode 8 can help you.
Yeah, always funny to find new bugs in Xcode...4 -
Fifty little bugs jumping in the code,
One tracked down and dev started to code,
Developer called the compiler,
And the compiler said
Hundred more bugs (& errors) found in the code -
FUCK THE SINGLE BUG IN A MONOLITYC APP THAT I CORRECTED AND IT INTRODUCES PLENTY OF OTHERS FUCKING BUGS. I SPENT HOURS DEBUGGING THE LITTLE MOTHERFUCKER. UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE THIS AINT GONNA END3
-
The client portal of the biggest bank in SA is down.
I took a break, because if they website is down, who cares about my minor bugs? 😀 -
Is shit ton not an subunit of measure? I could have sworn that "a shit ton of bugs"was a universally accepted form of currency1
-
Valgrind is awesome. Today I fixed a lot of memory leakage / overflow bugs thanks to it. An guess what? Now, everything works!
-
So, i helped solving 168 bugs for this website. Ofcourse, doubting every step since i'm still new here. Yesterday there was a meeting with the directors. Appearently they where happy a graded the site with a 8.5.
I finished my education with a 6. Not taking credit for any of the above...4 -
So there is a mall here that idk how but has little currents pass through it's supporting rails. And every time you touch it, it gives you a little shock.
I have been waiting for about 3 months now expecting a patch fix when I realized that physical production bugs have no patch fixes. More than 3/4th of the population is unaware of a whole different level of bug fixing frustration. Damn1 -
God fucking damn this stupid MariaDB is full of bugs... First access denied because I tried to login as root as non root and now that... Damn...6
-
Just got to experience this classic (again):
99 little bugs in the code, take one down, patch it around, 127 little bugs in the code... -
Trying to sleep knowing you have at least 5 bugs to try to fix when you wake up so you go to devrant to complain about it just to go back to thinking about the bugs and not sleeping.1
-
I said to my partner "BABE!! There are bugs on the screen!!!"
She screamed.
When she say the actual screen she wasn't pleased .-.2 -
When after a drunk night your code is working and yesterday's bugs are all gone.
I'm so lucky that drunken me is my coworker. (:2 -
the funny thing about bugs, they reproduce on their own just fine, and often where you don't want to them. the trick is figuring out how they reproduce so you can work out how to make them stop reproducing. to do that, you have to intentionally reproduce them.2
-
When your website is tested after months of efforts and then tons of bugs come up....
Gonna fix each of it..
Y am such a poor developer.. !!!! 😖😞2 -
After finnishing all functionality defined in koncept our boss said that we should write some unit tests.
Wrote first one and already found 2 bugs.
I guess we should start with tests earlier 😅😷3 -
The Hydra regrows three heads for every head chopped off. Just like fixing bugs. For every fixed bug three new pop up.
-
Doing GUI agile testing with the QA before passing my code to test server. I do this 'cause the QA marked in the past a lot of bugs that aren't bugs because he didn't liked the wording (in spanish there's A LOT of ways to say the same thing), the color of a button or an icon, and this delayed the release of the code a lot of times. So, this way I can change things to avoid unnecessary bugs... if the QA is not so busy XD
-
99 little bugs in my script. 99 little bugs. Spend a whole night, fix one with might, 113 MORE bugs in my script.1
-
import antigravity, random
bugs = 99
while True:
print(bugs, "bugs in the code today,")
print(bugs, "bugs in the code.")
print("Git pull the file,")
print("Fix and compile.")
if random.randint(1, 7) == 7:
bugs += random.randint(1,16)
else:
bugs -= 1
print(bugs, "bugs in the code.\n")1 -
wtf...
Ones of the best bugs I love the "most" are the ones where the fix is counter-intuitive, e.g. making smth seemingly incorrect to rectify the issue.
Like today, I crafter an SQL query to fetch some PG metrics. And postgres-exporter refused to accept it until I added an excessive comma [,] at the end of the SELECT block (right before FROM).
Like.. wtf...12 -
Happy days, yesterday we updated form 16.3 to 16.4 and thanks to them fixing the bug in 'getDerivedStateFromProps' my broken code is now breaking.
Don't you just love it when features inadvertently depend on bugs. The entire component ONLY worked properly because of a react bug.3 -
KDE is pissing me off!! So many fucking bugs. I used to like it but it just gets buggier every time and now its just a pain to use it.
What window manager is a solid alternative that is convenient and STABLE? I've used Gnome before but also had some issues. Currently don't wanna go with i3. I am using Manjaro what would you recommend me?8 -
Worst: Realizing there were crippling and horrible bugs in software that got shipped to customers. Also realizing that we truly don't know the amount of technical debt that contributed to these bugs. My most terrifying comment from a colleague: That software was written on a weekend and the dev was getting 3 hours a sleep a night. One of the bugs I found I was fighting for almost a year to even find what was causing the bug.
Best: Finding those bugs and eradicating them. Having confidence that the bugs we know about are truly dead and gone. Til we meet again...next...3 -
Twas the night before deadline,
And all through my house,
tons of bugs were scurrying from the
onClick event of the mouse.
Seriously though... Dreamweaver CC needs to revamp the way they implement bootstrap snippets. Specifically the navbar hover and click on <ul> dropdown menus.3 -
Hate those bugs, where you stumble upon a fix but have no idea why it fixes it or what is causing the bug!2
-
Sing: "110 little bugs in my code,
110 little bugs,
Fixing one bug,
Compiling again
Now there are 121 little bugs in the code"3 -
F'ing bugs you find months after deploy that are so big it shouldn't have been missed, yet somehow dozens of eyes missed it.
Damn code gremlins -
The mechanical team once told me, hey I want this feature on the software - sure it will take approx 1 week. Yea I know, but I want it without any bugs.
WTF?? They sure got some f words from me. 😅1 -
They say nightmares are bad, but have you ever solved a bug that was bothering you for a long time in your dream, only to wake up and realize it wasn't real? Worst feeling ever. And this happened three nights in a row. For three different bugs. You would think that after the first two nights I would know better, but yet again I was fooled.3
-
Has anyone ever deployed something to production and it had to get rolled back due to bugs? How did you handle that?9
-
To my dev manager: hold on... you are annoyed that one of our high profile customers found a bug in our software after upgrading to production because they didn’t test that feature in staging?? Did I hear that right? Yeah, let’s blame our customers for bugs that we introduced and that we clearly didn’t test during QA... that’s what we’re all about over here...8
-
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
Bugs everywhere
I typed all 9 lines without copying them to put an emphasis on HOW MANY DAMN BUGS THERE ARE in every damn program2 -
Agency developers, what do you do with bugs. If bugs come up after a year do you charge your customers? Or do you have maintenance agreements?4
-
Without requirements or design, programming is the art of adding bugs to an empty text file ;)......!
-
I find it funny that core software from major companies has such bad bugs or flaws. With large development teams and QA they still get through, yet a bug half as bad on a system for a customer developed by a small team, we get a roasting for it!1
-
My day today? Fixing bugs caused by the Change to the Summer time here in Germany.
Congratulations. #nice2 -
Anyone of you use Jetbrains IDE‘s? I love them but sometimes, they have weird bugs and it just triggers me everytime so hard, I could take my Computer and throw it out the window.11
-
Upper mgmt paying an enterprise software vendor 40k US annually. Told vendor No more me QA'ing for them and 'discovering' obvious bugs. Told them to hire QA person and spring for some automated testing software. Yeah I know I am a nice guy but Enough is enough!1
-
Well my expert developer friend asked me why 'bugs' were called 'bugs'....
Personally I told him STFU cause he had to ask such an important question when my headphones were on, nevertheless 'bugs' are getting old now, let's just refer to them as 'problematic, chronic, death causing errors often caused by a stupid typo'3 -
Fixing bugs is kind of like picking freshly washed socks from the washing machine all socks at once.
As i grab the last sock from the washing machine, I drop a sock..
As i pick up the sock i dropped, I drop two more.. -
The other day I had literally nothing to do at work as I was waiting for some changes on the database so I said: “in the meantime I would like to get acquainted with Angular unit tests so I can go on with development “
My boss: “we have no time for tests “
Well I guess we will have more time for bugs then…3 -
Lesson 1 of developing a project with managers: never make it known that solutions to some bugs are simple. Managers will assume that all bugs are simple and require little thought and effort. Then, when there is a bug for which you have no idea what the solution is just by looking at the issue, they will become upset.2
-
Chances of getting all the bugs fixed before the demo...
"What do you think Abdul? Can you give me a number crunch real quick?"1 -
I'm currently working on updating our SAP Hybris code base (unreleased) to the latest hybris version ... god, there are so many bugs I could scream. SAP, how can you release such a saftware*, or wait the actual question is, SAP aren't you ashamed for that peace of shit you sell for 1M per licences!?!?!
Allegedly SAP has >100 people sitting there working on hybris. Every new version I wonder the same, when do the finally fix the bugs, improve performance, update the 10year old ant version, migrate to maven, remove the bloat ...
what they actually do is just add bugs and more bloat "§$%&/()=)(?/&%(&
* german "saft" means juice. A "saftladen" is a shitty company, "saftware" ... you get it right ;-)2 -
After reporting several bugs/blockers, demanding the product owner to set up some kind of notification her answer is:
We know the problem, first ocured 2 years ago, but I'm not in the mood to do something.
Ticket: Closed/Won't fix or Clodes/Works as designed -
Someone else updated a firmware and noticed that its worse than the older? The worst ia when you try to fix it and it broke another thing.
Too many bugs in a release (yes, a "verified" release)3 -
Bugs*, why do thou love me as such? Whenever I launch Windows^, thou art there!
* physical living bugs
^ actual glass window2 -
Purple eye sockets and slightly wrinkled eye pouches when I smile. This is what a developer job gets me after all those hours of frowning my face at bugs all day.
Coding is affecting my health.
No, no, no, this has got to improve. I'm going to make sure I look better this year.2 -
If debugging is the process of removing software bugs, then programming must be the process if putting them in
-
When you're the only one who likes docker in your team and they're still insisting on using WAMP/XAMPP. Fixing docker bugs and trying to make it work. Push! This is war!2
-
Ah the fun part of linux. Patching all these hardware specific bugs after installing a new system xD Well at least I got rid of all the visible ones so far.
-
me: yes..hurray I fixed 5 of 25 critical bugs. Its turning out to be a great day.....
...checks the bug list....
"There are 29 critical bugs in the list"1 -
You know what I !love about summer?
My loneliness seems to just fucking FLY away.
More bugs in my house than in Windows ME3 -
Given a set of projects, twice the amount of work half the amount of time to do them in. We told management we need more time and more developers. Products are being given to the clients with lots of bugs. Management's response: double the QA team size... We almost have more QA members than Dev members. FFS.
-
Is it possible to have an "epistemological bug crisis"? Because i feel like everything I referred to as bugs in my early career weren't true bugs, they were just bad programming or architecture flaws. I feel like real "bugs" are weird issues with the language, compiler, module, etc... that should work one way but work another way. Anyone else had that experience?
This gives rise to the secondary question: who perpetuates the idea that bugs are just "anything wrong with the current codebase"?3 -
Please Santa, fix all my bugs for Christmas!
(i know it's a lot, i'm also happy if you help me with a half) -
!rant
So I'm making the system for my University's cafeteria.
Pretty ez and all but THIS FUCKING PAGE, THIS GOD FORSAKEN PAGE JUST BUGS.
I'll elaborate: Basically I have a bunch of pages that bring up some pie charts and a .pdf of earnings, all of them work and they are pretty much cookie cutter so I can re-use the code. But this random one, with the same code, repeats the same entry a couple of times.
And by god have I tried to change every variable, code format and minimal shit. Still doesn't budge.
Guess I'll have a cheeky ciggy break and try to fix it later when I'm not steaming my noggin
Ps: yeah yeah, shitty jpg quality but its the "Busca Unidade" field that just cloned itself 7 more times underneath -
Friday releases are always a bad idea. The feeling of dread over the weekend seeing all the "bugs" and changes come in put a huge dampener on the weekend mood.
-
Person I am grading labelled “not having bugs” as their website feature... if it wasn’t 2018, I probably would say that’s a standard part of any website or software. Now... at least they’re not passing it off as early access.
-
This code is huge ! THAT MEANS IT HAS HUGE BUGS !
FIX AND PATCH !
FIX AND PATCH YOUR BUGS !
Basically the reason I want to work on a big codebase one day is to be able to scream that
Winks if you get the reference (just so you know, I didn't read it fully)2 -
I find it hilarious that sometimes when i create bug in our app nobody finds out. Even pretty significant bugs. Sometimes i wonder how is it possible. 😅4
-
Scope creep is the worst, and it's always last minute which causes bugs, which causes unhappy scope creeping clients.. :-/

The best thing about SkyRant is that it shows the unread notifications marker in the main text font and not alarm red, so when the counter bugs out and stays on 1 it doesn't make me feel like I need to act on something that doesn't exist.1

Windows Mosquito edition.
I guess they weren't happy with the current bugs and need more...

I told my colleagues to test the website I built and they all came to my seat for about an hour and told me 1000 bugs even the client is better2

Can anyone suggest any websites or resources for a breakdown of how to handle requests for features or handling bugs. Basically, I want some kind of background on best practices for managing the process of receiving a feature request/or bug report from a user to it reaching the dev team, to production/user acceptance testing.5

I just love when I correct 20 little bugs, and always with that "Ah!! Of course!" feeling, before finding the little ';'...

Finished developing the complete clean build of the app by 4am....
And tomorrow, the day of the presentation,
ALL THE BUGS ARE BACK!
Doomed!
Was I dreamin last night ? 🤔 -
Yea we programmers sometimes bitch about errors and bugs but let's be honest that is what keeps this "specie" alive. 😄

Anyone know any nice code quality tools/bug finders (besides find-bugs) plugins for Intellij IDEA?2

I've come to realise that wrapping var_dump(); in fucking_var_dump(); greatly helps upon those nasty and frustrating bugs.
So whenever I get mad at a bug, I just write fucking_var_dump($this); -
Bugs: These are not bed bugs. For programmer they are a nightmare, to customer we introduce them as a new feature and say, “My software has no bug. It just develops random features.”
-
The worse bugs ain't those that show up on your terminal<If you got those kinda bugs-you're lucky>. But are those that don't show up at your terminal, but still give you the worse version of production.

"Bugs"
all these...
i got bugs
i got bugs in my room
bugs in my bed
bugs in my ears
their eggs in my head
bugs in my pockets
bugs in my shoes
bugs in the way i feel about you
bugs on my window
trying to get in
they don't go nowhere
waiting, waiting...
bugs on my ceiling
crowded the floor
standing, sitting, kneeling...
a few block the door
and now the question's:
do i kill them?
become their friend?
do i eat them?
raw or well done?
do i trick them?
i don't think they're that dumb
do i join them?
looks like that's the one
i got bugs on my skin
tickle my nausea
i let it happen again
they're always takin' over
i see they surround me, i see...
see them deciding my fate
oh, that which was once...was once up to me...
now it's too late
i got bugs in my room...one on one
that's when i had a chance
i'll just stop now
i'll become naked
and with the...i'll become one -
Its raining season here and Ooohhh boi

Okay..
So, what do I have here?
A cross platform mobile app with NO unit tests.
😕
I have to write a big new feature from scratch. (Things can't go wrong, right?)
Started working on it, pointed out problems with the UI/UX designs. The design changed multiple times, still I thought I could finish it by the expected date. And, so I did.
The feature went through testing, and they found bugs. (Surprise...?)
It's already kinda scary to touch someone's code that has no unit tests and no comments. And I think, it's all the more difficult to not introduce bugs.
Also, had to work on the weekend to fix the bugs.
I had some good learnings here, but I'm not sure how I can prevent bugs without unit tests and proper feedback cycle. :/4 -
I know using Composition is a good way of reusing components. Works like a charm and sends data down the tree like a waterfall.
But in our codebase it's applied to bugs. Fix one, get two more, fix two get four more.
I want to cry :'(( -
Low self-confidence dev:
I'm testing out code that I've written for an hour and works the first time I run it. My first thought: "Well, I guess I'm just getting better at writing code with less obvious bugs -- better debug through all the LOC I just wrote." -
Why is it always the case when you give your cide to QA they find more bugs than you? Even though developers write test cases, why can't we catch them all?4
-
Request:
Do not handover project to client before deadline.
They will ask to add minor feature that will cause major bugs.
Happened with me🙄1 -
Monday morning. Updated my IDE. Updated my browser. Ran npm upgrade. Encountered new bugs. Why can't our industry focus on releasing stable software and shipping updates that reduce bugs without introducing new ones? I thought everyone except for me must be doing 100% test-driven development by now, especially the corporate devs?7

I know that we all hate bugs, but let's be truthful, if there was no bugs, there was no jobs 😂
You will just have to program one time and then the boss will kick your ass out of the company3 -
it's going to be a 'headphones on and don't disturb me' kinda day, fucking bugs and not stable apis and a lot of stories to finish...
-
Am I the only who's having trouble with the devRant app. Before anyone says to me to send an email about the bugs I've been having, I already did.
I don't know why but sense the last update I'm just finding bug after bug. Is anyone having problem with the app or is it just me?4 -
Wanna test the level of your patience go solve some bugs in apps(pro level apps). They take the shit out of u .
