Client: our app has low ratings, we fired our previous dev company and hiring you instead.
Us: all right, seems like to make a better app we need 5 months.
C: you're kidding, do it in 6 weeks.
U: Ok, but we'll have to drop some features.
C: get rid of X and Y, nobody uses them.
U: deal!
... 6 weeks later...
U: here's the new app: better graphics, easier to use, more stable and more future-proof.
C: Cool! Let's deploy!
... 2 days later...
C: we just released but the users are really pissed off!
U: what do they say?
C: "what the fuck happened with X and Y? they were the only thing we're using! what a load of crap! 1 star"
Dear client, next time get to know better your users...8 -
I introduced git with hope that our team gets better
I introduced trello in hope that our team get better
I introduced gitlab in hope our team gets better
I introduced scrum in hope our team gets better
I'm losing hope...17 -
I've turned 24 years old and it was given to me this amazing cake at the party, could it get any better?26
-
Maybe I could get better bug reports from clients if I made them use this.
I wonder if it has Jira integration.5 -
Client: Can you build a Snapchat clone but better?
Me: I’m going to say probably not logical given the resources they have and what we have, but for curiosity, what kind of budget do you have?
Client: $2500.
Me: Get out.7 -
"But I don't know where to start..."
"... just start typing, be willing to mess up, and if you get lost just start over with better understanding from messing up. Eventually it'll work."1 -
October - Hired
November - Hear that CEO 2 was stealing the company money
December - Dismissing 6 persons. CEO 1 says to me that, since I'm the last hired, I'll be the first dismissed.
March - Company doesn't get better. Dismissing 3 persons... still there.
May - Company doesn't get better. Dismissing 2 persons... still there.
July - Company doesn't get better. Dismissing 9 persons... still there.
Now, with the remaining money the company should live for about 2 years and not dismiss employees anymore.
We were 25 employees, where are 4 now. I feel like the winner of Survivor.10 -
I can't believe that something I threw together in an afternoon to make my work flow better turned into something people actually use! People are opening issues and suggesting things. Never thought it would get over 2.5k downloads! 😮18

So I take an English test at work last week. Today I got the results and I found this at the end. ( context: I’m a humble Peruvian trying to get better at English :) )4
-
me: Better check my phone for texts from friends
me: *checks phone*
me: Better get some friends
* Few seconds later *
me: Better go back to terminal2 -
Always be humble and always keep learning. No matter how good you get, there is always some better.4

Riskiest Dev choice...
Leaving a previous job, moving 1000KM (620 Miles) away with no job prospects and going absolutely broke.
This was all in the name of “I need a better job”, so what better way to force yourself to get one.
I’m currently in my second job since then and now make just over double what I was earning before.
Sometimes it takes a high risk to get out ahead.4 -
You want to write a minus? No, better turn off the computer. What did you do to us, asus...
Ps: note where did the num lock gone. You have to press fn+home to get numlock enabled. But better have awesome rog key instead of numlock so you can randomly open it's software.14 -
While watching season 2 of Star Trek Discovery, it was nice to learn SQL is alive and well in the 23rd century. Also, that there are still idiots that don't defend against injection on a warp-capable spaceship with transporter technology.3
-
That moment that you think of a way better way to do something than your initial idea was RIGHT BEFORE you implement / start working on the initial idea instead of after hours of work.
I could get used to this!2 -
How to never finish a project:
*Le me staring at my own code after a few weeks*
"Bleh! Icould do better. Lets change it all before things get worse."
And the cycle continues...3 -
I did it! I FUCKING DID IT! I got the new job, where I am paid better and won't get abused! The culture is better, pay is better!
My struggle now! Do I do finger guns to my current boss after telling him? I hate that asshole.13 -
Does anyone else get so self conscious about writing neat, clean and efficient code that you get demotivated because you always think "there's a better way to do this".
The cleanest code is no code at all. 😂8 -
Asked to do a technical interview task. It has expected input and output.
My code does what it needs to and produces the desired result.
Get rejected and no feedback given when asked.
Juniors won't get better if you don't communicate my dude 😒2 -
So this is a huge fancy screen showing movie times and marketing stuff at my local cinema.
// TODO: get a better camera phone6 -
Trying to get into better shape, for every bug I find I do 20 pushups or situps.
30 mins into debugging and i'm exhausted.2 -
I am like the weakest programmer at my job. I wanna improve and get better. Understanding how to write good unit test to reading code. Damn it. I just wanna be better.9
-
My worst experience is, that I was fired after the third week in a new job. I worked then for a really small company.
My supervisor didn't like me and just wanted me out.
He asked for feedback and new ideas. I provided good reviews.
I even gave the company really good ideas, didn't get any credits for it, but they have implemented them now. Never got any credit for it.
I can look back and say that my supervisor then was a douche and wanted to kill off a young guy with a bit more technical knowledge and a vision.
For me it's in the past...
Now I got a way better job at a really gigantic company, better pay, much better work with better working times, a very friendly and helpful team, which appreciate my feedback and effort.
Sometimes it needs to get worse, to have later something better.
Now I can enjoy my new job and go everyday with a smile in my face :)4 -
I didn't download that fucking 56MB Skype Installation File just to get this message:
"Please install Skype from the Windows Store for better Performance."
NO I WANTED TO INSTALL THE OLD SKYPE NOT THIS BUGGY PIECE OF SHIT!2 -
Electron apps are now “normal” and even considered “better” than native ones.
How the fuck did we get to this dystopian timeline of a situation.8 -
Ability to complaining about "Gradle is too slow in my laptop!" to my dad to get a better one.
Saying thanks to Google.3 -
Buy a fitness tracker which reminds you after an hour of inactivity to get up.
Get up, walk around or even better climb some stairs, get back to work.3 -
So for the past month, my sister had her Wi-Fi router hanging fron her window thinking she would get better internet...
yEaH.3 -
Fucking idiot lead dev who’s 10 years younger then me doesnt know fucking respect. Dumbass comes with every new framework there is:
- ow we should try abc.js
One week later
- now we should totally get in def.js. It’s soooo much better then abc.js!
Screwing up projects, asking for an extra pair of eyes and then asking wtf is this code.
Im out of here if we’re hiring toddlers for lead developers because they are willing to work 50 hours a week. I better get that raise soon.3 -
*closes service*
*deletes program / associated exe's*
*attempts to delete a file*
"Failed to delete file: In use by that_program_you_deleted.exe"
WELL IT'S NOT IN USE BECAUSE I JUST DELETED IT SO YOU'D BETTER GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, WINDOWS14 -
I like how devs keep on shitposting Windows rants, but never switch to Linux.
Windows will never get better, you have to give it up :)9 -
I moved from a no-dogs-allowed company to an office with three dogs in.
Forget the better salary, the more freedoms, the nicer boss I have now.
The main benefit is that I get to pet dogs every day now!7 -
I know we might think we need drugs to accomplish something. Like coffee to get work done or alcohol to socialize better. But honestly, you are better when you are sober - because you are perfect just the way you are :)9
-
Monday: coffee tastes like dead rat. And I wrote hacks around hacks in legacy code just to get it to last a little longer until the new system can be made.
The coffee left a better taste than my commit.1 -
sudo apt-get update year
Appy new year guys.
I know I've been away but I will be back when I get better.5 -
When I started learning PHP. I used various warez sites to get PHP scripts to get familiar with how 'things' are built and it really helped me develop into a better dev.
Now I sell PHP scripts on envato and my very item's trending on a warez site somewhere.10 -
I'm torn between waking up early so I can have time for myself to study/code to get a better job, and getting enough sleep. I end up getting neither.3
-
Please stop the operational system's war. People might get hurt.
Seriously guys, every time someone says X is better then Y, my eyeballs starts rolling.
(I'm a Linux && Windows user, btw.)12 -
I'm regretting trying so hard at my jobs. I get passionate and over perform, and because of that, I'm given more responsibility and put in more leadership roles with no more pay. I need to get better at doing the bare minimum and leaving the passion for home projects6
-
Anyone else taking Harvard's CS50 via edX? It's so awesome! You get a better understanding of Computer Science and stuff. I'm loving C! It feels so close to communicating with the machine. Memory allocation fascinates me, too. Is this why it's fast? If you feel like you're lacking with the CS fundamentals although you can build apps or websites already, I recommend this. This is better than my whole years in college!9
-
I currently work 60 hours a week, working two jobs just so I can earn enough money to pay off loans, get better equipment and basically just survive.5
-
When your internal timezone automatically changes over the weekend and you have to get it back to "normal" but then somehow end up not sleeping at all 😅😐😑😪2
-
I hate my stupid non confident ass.
I was just negotiating for a pay for a project that I would work at after my day job, because I'm familiar with it and they really can't get a better person to finish it. And I get shy when talking to the boss and totally lowball it and now I'm working for peanuts.
Fuck. :(5 -
That feeling you get after battling css for the better part of two hours then, you finally have it work exactly the way you want it!
😊2 -
Programming should be like art, where you try and learn different skills and tools to get better over time.... Not a continuous game of whack-a-mole where your try to hit everything with a hammer...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯6 -
For me, nothing is better than getting home after a long day, put a pizza in the oven, get a beer from the fridge and just sit back and do nothing for a little bit.2
-
Yeah I get what the intention was but like... why? I feel there are way better ways to do this
(Ps. I've become the pic post guy)8 -
- Hey, that envelope seems important, did you get a job on NY or something?
- Better, I got stickers!1 -
!rant
Sometimes when I have a 10s break, I think about what I did to get here, and what to do to get... somewhere alive (if possible)
6 years ago, I got my high school diploma in letters.
5 years ago, my depression started while I went to a development / management school. Dropped off one year before graduation, but I prefered to stay alive than having this diploma in my coffin.
1 year ago, I got this (kind of shitty but it pays well but it has drupal so fuck) job and my depression ended.
In two weeks, I'll get back to school for this last one year that I'm missing, so I'll finally get a better diploma.
Within 4 years maximum, I'll leave France to start a new / better / better paid life in Canada.
One hell of a ride, ain't it?5 -
I swear.. Whoever comes up with a better and fixed version of CSS that makes sense when you use it should probably get a Nobel Peace prize for the peace of mind it would give to its users..!!!2
-
Never thought I'd say this but...I wish IE6 was back for Outlook.
//After Outlook 2003, Microsoft decided that MS Word was a better renderer for emails than IE6 was, what the hell Microsoft?! Get it together man.4 -
pm: next week you have to talk in front of 20 interns
me: oh, sh*t I better get prepared. Googling "principles of OOP"8 -
just saw that a guy liked his own linkedin post
doesn't get any better than this folks
welcome to hell6 -
Sometimes, when bugs get a bit out of hand... You have to counter them with better debugging methods 🐥2
-
Me: oh boy i have so much fun stuff planned for this weekend, better get my work done before it
My immune system: here have this flu with some pink eye on top2 -
this is mostly how i feel today. we're all aware not much actually changes, but y'know, we survived this year, we get to celebrate a new cycle and hope for new and better things4
-
Fuck, I keep missing PRs and comments, because github doesn't notify if you're not directly tagged, is there some better way to get notified about things like new PR on your repos or generally notifications?12
-
I changed "Bug" in TFS to "Monstrous Hideous Defect". That'll get the mindset right. The word bug is so common that nobody cares anymore. New Monstrous Hideous Defect? Holy crap, better fix that right away! 😃
-
Why do so many programmers who aren't developing for Mac/iOS use Macs for their job? Why not use Linux and get a better specced computer for the same price?20
-
Programmers: working tirelessly to create ever more advanced tech for handling information 💻
Governments around the world: oh, the citizens want something from us? They better get ready for PAPERS 📃
The year is 2022, ok¿13 -
I belive developers need their own dating app type to get to know each other better and balance their social life...😁5
-
Polymorphism (Object Oriented) explained better :
1) Father : Son, go and get Red Label.
Son : Full or Half? ..
2) Mother : Son, go and get Red Label.
Son : 100g or 250g? ..5 -
The best way to get an interview call is through referrals.
Recruiters are lazy. They don't want to sift through resumes coming from sites like LinkedIn. Referrals are usually better quality.
I'm not saying this. My recruiter friend is.2 -
!Rant
I got a co-founder for a thing I'm building.
Building this thing will only get better as all the struggles of building a startup thing get wurse.
Today, my rant friends, is a great day. -
I have couple dev ambitions some of them are:
- to become better in what I am doing and get a higher position.
- to build my own product.
- to educate young programmers. -
Jetbrains Rider is a VASTLY SUPERIOR ALTERNATIVE TO “VISUAL STUDIO 2019”
Wake up Microsoft, ffs WAKE UP. I cant BELIEVE YOU ARE MAKING MY LIFE WORSE NOW
I can get better syntax highlighting and save features on a fucking gameboy5 -
- get better at nodejs(and a bad ass front-end dev)
- rewrite the sass to bem for my club website
- put the website for my brother and sister online
- build a new 2018 portfolio website for myself
- finish my dashboard to run on a pi
- get a permanent position1 -
There's a bunch of things I want to get around to this year:
- learn Scala
- get a job/an internship in programming
- start a blog
- start and finish at least a couple of projects that have piled on in my to-do list
- write code that sucks less
- get better at explaining my train of thought to others and teaching -
Providing hosting and site management services to clients was the best decision Ive ever made. Now they don't get access to their websites until I get paid.
Getting a managed dedicated server was an even better decision. Allowing me to focus on the development while a professional team takes care of my clients security.3 -
I've concluded you can't get a job these days unless you're some fucking wizard. It's always the response: "We found better candidates than you".13
-
Tomorrow I'll finally start working on a new part of my company's current project from scratch after loads of frustration in the past 1 1/2 months! Not a rant, just a lil bit of hope that it'll get better :)4
-
TFW you google an error and all you get are GitHub issues with rambling conversation and no resolution. Marginally better than having no relevant responses IMHO.1
-
My 2018 goals:
1. Graduate from the Deep Learning Nanodegree.
2. Get better at Python.
3. Learn C++.
4. Learn more about Machine Learning and AI.6 -
idk why I'm so anxious about money... I'm not broke, I'm better than most people my age, ffs i have savings, but whenever i think of spending on sh*t i need i start thinking about what if i get fired, what if i have to move back with my parents, where do i put my cat???
wish my brain was doing better tbh7 -
Manager was a douche again.
I mean not that it's anything new but this guy seriously has an issue with being respectful to coworkers and me. Has this pompous, I'm better than thou attitude. It completely ticks me off.
Guy needs an attitude adjustment stat. As a leader I expect better. I get you've been in the industry 20 years. I get it, but you don't have to be an asshole about it. I'm doing my best, I may code a little slower, but I'm not fucking stupid.1 -
Why people think that Mac is better than pc? Im Mac user and I like Mac. I think Apple just uses better hardware and charges extra for it. If you build windows with better hardware then windows will work really fast too. On Mac gradle build takes really less time because of SSD it does not mean Mac is faster. Get SSD for windows and see the difference yourself.
- P.S. Not hater of any OS.6 -
Haha I started to read some programming books (want to get better in pattern designs, etc) and now I am dreaming code for 3 days in a row. Maybe I shloud stop? Fml4
-
Looking forward to 2017, and working ten times harder to get my business running like a well oiled machine and getting lots of well paying clients. Also would like to manage stress better :)1
-
Of course I'll get invited to a friend's party where I know no one. Should have known better...
fml.6 -
Starting to get really hyped about how my book is progressing, thinking about starting to put some promotional items and desk tat together...
Oh lord I'm a better author than a dev, someone slap me...
(I'm slightly terrified that it might actually get finished and may have fans so my mind is sort of melting into sludge and I hide it behind excitement)17 -
The internet: “hey - I need help with my assignment”
Me: “sit down and work through it - and if you can’t... get a better teacher”6 -
My ambition is to develop my own game and publish it, then get a better paying job and to rise above my lazy ass nihilistic order-following coworkers.7
-
Things that motivate me.
3. Money
2. The chance to make the world a better place
1. The desire to get a Penguin pet for my DevRants profile. -
1.)
I either get way better in math, or find a good opportunity to drop out of college. Both would be equally good.
2.)
Nvidia dies the cruel death it deserves.
3.)
All DEB and RPM package-managers, get replaced by pacman.3 -
Summer starts now!
Things to do.
1. Get better at overwatch
2. Learn 3d modeling
4. Learn animation
5. Learn how to apply programming to animation to make the process quicker
6...do job bc I need money.5 -
Feeling like a stupid shithead bc all the new hires are smarter and get thru the training wayyy faster than I do. Spending hours after work to catch up, will this get any better????9
-
This year I want to become a better programmer. I ordered the book clean code and want to focus on writing more and better unit tests.
If anyone has any tips on how to improve or how to get tips on your code6 -
Getting cooped at home to a avoid COVID is annoying because it got me remembering my ex. I hate myself for shutting down a few days thinking of him. If only there is an "Empty trash" button for emotions. Finally I get better today. I resume studying for work and target to pass the certification. Strive to be better!3
-
Today I learnt that I'm much more productive if I get a constant loop of feedback on my tickets and stuff. Feels better that way.
Edit: I'm working with a new coworker from QA and she's more responsive than the others. I get my feedback fast and timely and this makes it way easier to work7 -
- Install Overwatch via Lutris on Linux.
- Get absolutely terrible performance and rendering bugs.
- Disable DXVK.
- Get slightly better performance (wtf?).
- Still runs at like 20% of potential performance.
- Give up and try to install Windows.
- Windows install fails.
Aaand so I spent my weekend configuring shit instead of relaxing/gaming. Ugh.9 -
I'm currently trying to get better at python and to learn django. And here I am, following a c++ course I found on safari books.
Really, sometimes I don't know why I do certain things...2 -
Found in kernel/sched.c in Linux 1.2:
The "confuse_gcc" goto is used only to get better assembly code..
Dijkstra probably hates me.
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/...3 -
Days since last issue from 3rd party library: 0
It doesn't get any better than this folks!
It just makes me even more joyful to know that said companies library earns them 1000x figures of what my company earns! Yay software! -
First 2 prints with the Anycubic Photon D2. Has gone easy enough. Need to figure out a better curing system than sitting them outside in a box. Might just get a curing station to sit in my room lol3
-
Can gaming get better on Linux please? I know there are steps towards this but when I can move everything over to arch/Ubuntu etc would be awesome, including VR stuff.13
-
Looked at this and thought, wow, I must’ve gone to bed really early on Wednesday (ons)
Then I realized... all the other days were just really late and barely and sleep. Maybe try to go to bed before midnight this week...8 -
So, in roughly 2 years?
- Having my driver licence
- Get my graduation (should be in a few months but still)
- Find another work
- Get a better pay
- Loose 40 kgs
- And a GF would be a bonus -
Failed another programming intervie. Didn't expect the 2D array question. Feel so bad. Just wanna cry and give up. I need to get better..fast.5
-
I just went to pee and I spent like 10 minutes reading devrant and I got paid for it.
Yes I pee sitting.2 -
I'm getting started on web development again. But I want to get the right tools for the job. I don't hate Dreamweaver. But I know there's got to be something better out there for me to use.15
-
Get a better job and move out to Austin, TX; the next step towards my goal of one day starting my own company!1
-
In 2019 I want to get better at PHP & React & stop being afraid to try & fail! I do a lot of front end work, backend still baffles me a lot. Time to get uncomfortable! 👩🏼💻🤓3
-
We've been using JIRA for over half a year now, and my colleagues still can't use it properly.
I've never had the problem, but to some amazing technological feat, every time they create a ticket, it "disappears", so they make a NEW ticket with just the title references to the actual one.
Love my daily review of JIRA, it's like a fucking raiders of the lost ark scene.
"ooooo what does this one mean, perhaps there is a clue if i shine a light on it just right"
jesus christ incompetence is rampant3 -
Given how precise developers have to be with their code to get it to run, you'd think they'd be better spellers when they write blog posts. 🤔1
-
Like the last 100 weeks:
1. Be a better person
2. Learn something new every day if you can.
3. Get older :( -
The worst is not being taken seriously when working on serious tasks...
Sure as an intern I don't get paid a lot, but that system I'm building has to work either way, you better fucking take that seriously....1 -
A coworker wants to save telphone numbers as Strings in a database I don't get why he doesn't want to use Ints. I think it is stupid because it uses more space and you need to change the type if you want to use it to call someone. He says it is better this way because you can put there "+" and "-" for better readability.12
-
* Don't abandon projects

Maybe I'll comment some more if I can think of some -
Boss is always supporting me and helps me to get promotions and better salary. Has true leadership through servitude attitude. He knows that everybody he helps will gladly help him even without him asking for help.
-
I keep being called a "melt" by my mates, cause I say odd things .. cause huge geek 😅 or I'm just odd
Aren't most things better when they melt ... Melted cheese? ... Oh ice cream ... 😐 That's not better 🙄 ok.
Sorry I do use devrant to get things off my mind to total strangers -
when you work for Jira and get assigned in Jira’s Jira to write code in Jira Query Language to query Jira’s Jira so other Jira users can query their Jira better2
-
That moment when you try several days to get the code to behave like you want and at a random moment everything suddenly works....
Better not to touch it (the code) anymore before it breaks again... -
You! Yes you.
I'm sure you know a lot of things I don't, even tho I have a pretty decent education and job.
Universal justice wouldn't be that I get fired and you get my job. You getting a (better) job would be universal justice.
So I wish you best of luck.1 -
The feeling you get when a customer is happy and wishes you a happy weekend and tells you to drink a beer for them :) Don't think there is a better feeling work wise :)
#lovemyjob1 -
Too many projects, too little time and didn't get a raise. So I now work on projects that people I like ask me to. Ignoring the other pm's while looking for a better job.1
-
Want to develop myself by working abroad for better experience, can't get a job abroad because I don't have enough experience.4
-
My whole class. They aren't that good with computers and they ask obvious questions but they get better every day and we really grew together in the past year.2
-
I’ve been complaining about the privacy policy update emails since last week but I just realized that I won’t get a better chance to unsubscribe from all the services that I don’t use or that I won’t need anymore.2
-
Just bought a book that covers some techs that I use, but want to get better at. I get less than a chapter in, and realize something is horribly wrong. I check the publication date. 2015.
I am so fucking stupid.3 -
Code review with some people is emotionally draining. How do you keep encouraging someone to get better without being a dick when the improvement isn't there?4
-
You join a new team. You find that the code is horrendous. Do you
A. Run away while in probation?
B. Start complaining about it and have the others hate you?
C. Cry silently and hope things will get better?9 -
If I had a fucking dollar for every time someone interrupts me at work. I literally get bothered in the hour by people in QA that have nothing better to do ( not taking shots at QA ). What irks me is when they continue to chat up a storm behind me with someone else when I finally get the point across.1
-
Hell yeah !!!
They leave shitty code unfinished module for me to get done!
I better write from zero for the entire module!
Fuck off!!!1 -
3 weeks into Elixir and Functional programming in general. Words can't describe how much I love developing software with this toolset. Can this get any better ?4
-
just finished new series 4 of doctor who. how can it possibly get better from here?
sorry !dev but this is my only social environment and at least somewhat of a rant4 -
Sometimes there's no way to get someone to understand. Sometimes it's better to just build a cron job that will compensate for this asinine mistakes.
-
Finishing at least one novel so I can jumpstart a new career and get out of web development while I'm still ahead. That or get better at math/physics so I can solve anti-gravity/free energy and become a legend. Neither of these things is ever likely to happen.4
-
Finish my only pet project;
Learn a new compiled language;
Get better at functional programming;
Read more books about networks and software engineering;3 -
When you get on devRant expecting to make yourself feel better with others' shittier lives as devs and instead see people posting jokes and happy stuff.1
-
1. Learn MEAN
2. Learn LAM*
3. Learn to play guitar
4. Learn to play bass better
5. Finish my novel
6. Get paid more.1 -
This thing is a gyrobus. It's a bus you plug on the grid at the stop, there's an engine powering a gyroscoping wheel and you get 10km off that without battery
Why do we have normal buses this is way better.15 -
what is the best way to become better in JS, there is so many library and stuff, it's easy to get lost in this jungle ?9
-
I hope middle management feels some type of way when they learn that 70% of people want to leave their jobs right now. I hope all companies get what they deserve. I hope they all learn how to be better.5
-
Just getting a pizza, can't help but get annoyed by the jittery as fuck newsticker, they didn't even get the encoding right....
(Yes our POS software has 60fps jitterless hardware accelerated fully utf-8 encoded newstickers before anyone asks me to do a better job)2 -
there's two ways that i get better.
1. Learn new languages as they mature.
2. Think about existing problems we have and try to solve them, you either succeed and solve the problem or fail and learn from the experiance. -
Hello everyone.
I recently started android app development and i wanted to ask if you code entirely in java/kotlin or use xml+java/kotlin ?
I feel like to get better i should code entirely in java/kotlin. Am i wrong?3 -
Where I live now, when I open the tap, every drop of water from there is better than Vittel. Voss, Evian, doesn't matter. Better than all of them.
If I were to open a tap in Saint-Petersburg, russia, the only thing I could get is cholera.7 -
I will "fdroid" just for the super small app sizes. These things install like its nothing. And is it just me or sometimes their UIs are way better. Ex FOSS notes, Kiwix esp Get Off Your phone2

My first ever interview and the interviewer seemed more nervous than me. Didn't get the job.
I did have an interview a couple of hours later elsewhere with a much better firm and got the job :D -
Yes, i do overtime. But not to get extra pay. I do overtime to finish projects early so i can get enough time on weekend to spend it with my loved ones.
No sudo code help you feel better if you are sick. Spend time with one you love and care about. -
The better question is which one didnt I get through code?
My best and first real friend was doing an internship in the same company as I. Via her I know all my current friends. -
Every time there is a new project, we programmers swear to ourselves that we will code it better this time. We get elated that we do not have to deal with the tech debts piled up in the old module.1
-
Working with others is always a great way to improve, no matter their skill.
If -
They're better than you, you get to learn new things
They're worse than you, you get to learn how to be a better leader.
Rest assured, folks.
<!-- Was too lazy to write this in code. --> -
Is it a bad sign when after an interview they say they have more candidates and that they'll get back to me after?
I need to prepare better for next time, will be ok5 -
Time management. Maybe it's not really dev related, but I think it's very important. Trying to get better every day.1
-
I was told I have to integrate my current project for my current group with my first group's baseline. W/e. As long as I get paid.
Well the issue is, I haven't been with that group in a year and a half. And their product, I now realize, is terrible. I better get a great fucking performance review. -
Huh. I have been starting to run out of ideas for puns. I guess I Need to update my Pungram
That was terrible ill Get something better tommorow. -
should I get a rubber duck to tell my life problems to? or are friends a better alternative to talk to? any experience? 😁5
-
We have been waiting for Apple to drop a new beta for 2 weeks! They better get us a new seed on Monday or I am going to lose my shit.
-
So far I've struggled with applying for software internships. Have been trying since last semester but most of them have either rejected me or ignored my application.
Oh well better to keep working on my own projects until I land something I guess! The most important part about being rejected is that you know you can get better!3 -
I'm looking to get better at Python. Does anyone have any suggestions for good books or sites that run you through the standard library and maybe a few extras?6
-
- Get to expert level on all my preferred technologies
- Get to travel after graduation
- Strive for a better position at current company
- Contribute to interesting open-source projects
- Hope to not go insane in the process -

Maybe I should quit my job already, drive for Uber for a while and self-study until I get into a coding bootcamp, and find a better job.1 -
I get the feeling that the only reason people get macs is because windows is horrible now, I mean I’ve heard there’s better editing tools and all but surely they don’t give a huge advantage over editing tools for windows right?26

SFTP timeout errors.. nothing to find in the logs (if i look in the right logs that is) and my balls hurt. My evening cant get better lol4

If you are a graduate/junior developer be very careful about joining a small Ltd company.
You would get better support in a bigger team and have better insight of the industry in a bigger organisation.2 -
I swear on a Fragment's 'Life'cycle, you can only get better at developing with each project you undertake...4
-
So just started to get stuck into my new book on TypeScript. My immediate feeling is TypeScript is amazing and makes JavaScript a zillion times better. What's others opinions?4

I wrote a bit about my experiences dealing with communication in remote teams, and how I'm trying to get better at it. #remote

2007, I worked in a small company that develops a web platform, and we began to discover the benefits of MVC and that helped that rookie work team improve our skills to get a better job

Every school I applied for the next year rejected me... So I'm forced to work next year instead... In a way that's great but I'm only 20 and wanted to get higher diploma for a better salary 😕2

Best way to measure code quality is by using wtfps method. Less "what the fu#*s per second" you get, better the code is.
-
Microsoft pushing to get its js engine included in Node, I thought forced win10 updates is where they would stop at. But then again maybe chakracore and Node will play along exceptionally well, maybe better than v8.

I am looking for a better job, to do that I expand my knowledge by learning new stuff after work. I do this to have a better live, but my relatives pulling me down...
My wife complains that I am always at work, even if I tell her I do programming as a hobby and I learn new stuff to get a better paying job.
In contrary my parents always say that I am lazy bum, because If man doesn't work with his muscles, they don't consider this as a real job.2 -
What new thing(s) are you trying to get in a better habit of doing? What are you trying to get out of the habit of doing?2

So many people on devRant rave about iPhones because of the better security and privacy, but the new iPhone X starts at a whopping $1000! Sure, you don't have to get the X, but that's what everybody wants.
You'll say "well, I'm willing to pay more if it means better security because that's just the way it is." It doesn't have to be. It would be much more beneficial to actually fight and take a stand for better security and more privacy than just put up with outrageous prices.1 -
Boss changes plan & schedule for this year's projects at least 5 times within 3 weeks.
Since everything changes so frequently, would you mind making the following changes as well:
1) Give everyone a better PC/Mac
2) Get a better PM
3) A sales team that can sell things
Or maybe a more creative, decisive and organised boss so we can have all 3 wishes at once just like Kinder Surprise -
From the jQuery doc page for .click().
I hope the person who has to do the documentation is alright and not projecting here...2 -
Just had to debug this javascript bug. Not sure if I should get a better keyboard or only use strongly typed languages.

Don’t learn things by head because it’s useless.
If you_want_to_learn_a_new_programming_language==true:
Try to get a better view on it -
I don't have a single particular goal. but the first goal I have is to learn the rest of the programming languages that I want to learn, and get better with those
-
That it's better to get started with git and GitHub with your own projects rather than swerling your head around someone elses code. Once you are comfortable you could try the latter.
-
I got let go recently. I’m pretty bummed out, I thought I was making progress, but I’m still far behind. Things that should be simple for me and I feel like a complete idiot. I’m trying to make a project for myself to get better with Frontend and some Backend. I just want to get better and learn, I hate feeling stupid when I program or code. I’m just so frustrated.10

90% of my homework and assignments this week are essays/writing assignment and I can't get the motivation to do them. Programming homework is so much better.6

Thinking of making a project using the Blockchain to get better understanding of it.
Confused whether to use Ethereum Blockchain (Solidity) or Bitcoin Blockchain (bcoin API). Any help!1 -
It is better to write almost all of the logic used in the code as comments/documentation.
Trust me.
It is a good thing. It increases Code readability.
Nobody is going to copy your logic and get hired in a high paying job or get promoted for that reason. People will come to know about your wit and will appreciate you instead.2 -
As a professional googler (who has recently included the skill on his resume too), I wanna ask you all, what googling tips and advices you got you wished others that you're working with knew?
I'll start with one simple and clear one myself:
Start with a wide search, then narrow it down with including and specially excluding keywords. don't start too specific as you might not be familiar with the language of the subject and the way it's addressed.9 -
I have a whole bag of pills to eat that make me sicker instead of better while I have a lot of studying and writing to do. Doc says I have to be diligent with pills but like...what of my goals? I'll also not get better if I don't eat the pills. What a conundrum.7
-
Why don't we have a social network like devrant but better and stronger?
If we form a team, and we get support, we can build this!9 -
Is that just impression or iPhone takes longer to get slowly (deals better with bigger apps in the long run) when compared to Android?
I'm considering going back to iOS world. Android seems to get slow after less than an year.4 -
FFS, a site that published tech tutorials that can't get the damn iOS app to work correctly
Come on plurasight you can do better than this.2 -
Force pushing a better version in a different language to the repo of a program that I wrote 2 years ago. It was sort of a memory, but I mainly looked at it to feel better about my current coding style.
I don't want to take comfort in knowing that I'm getting better. I know that, and it feels like false affirmation. If anything, I want to know that I'm good compared to others, not compared to a previous, dumber version of me. I'll never get to beat him anyway.1 -
One manager at the Client company tells us that unless we submit weekly timesheets we wont get paid.
We are not their employees, nor do we have an agreement with them for full time work.
" Whole thought process is to structure the engagement better ,so that we can implement better governance and provide better visibility."
Anyone understand what is being said above? Jargon.2 -
spends almost 5 weeks trying to get CI/CD to work with Kubernetes (including installing Kubernetes itself).

Man, if only I discover stuff sooner...3 -
Scanning antennas TV channels again on my HDTV and now reviewing my catch (50 channels) and saw this, now in HD.
Looks so much better now then when I was a kid but also started to get a bit emotional -

Downloaded atom and sublime....

Apt-get install parrot.....bye bye Kali! -
Better get started...oh look at this shiny new piece of tech. 3 days later with evaluation done on each usable tech alternative crunch the solution together in record time with tech most similar to your previous one.

Rant about fellow devRanters: don't you ever get tired arguing about which phone/operating system/brand is better? I don't give a fucking shit. It's exhausting reading the same shit every week. We get it, everyone has to like what you like. 🙄4

Today was too hot to focus and get something done. So we watched Conjuring movie and we will better code some stuff from home.

I am stuck on a UNIX legaxy project. This is the perfect time to learn awk, sed, vim. I use them but I wanna get better.
I can read a book, course, but I WANT to write code, maybe something like the hackerrank challenges but harder.
How do I get advanced in awk, sed, vim?5 -
Oh Dell, why do you think that more thermal paste is better? It got crusty and my beautiful laptop started throttling... good job it was easy to sort! Would have hated to have had to get rid of the machine.

If you want to increase your rate of progress, spend as much time as possible doing the activity you want to get better at. Volume leads to good things over time.1

Going to a business summit tomorrow and I get to see a live hack and learn about cyber attacks.
Shit better be good.2 -
You get my best work with snarky, asshole broseph, or you get whatever I can shit out with medicated, socially-acceptable broseph. I could probably give them a better choice, but I have no interest in trying. My absence is their loss. I'm no Steve Jobs. I'm mediocre as fuck, but I'm willing to learn new things and I dive into that shit as hardcore as I can... I don't fucking know anymore.. 😔 It'll probably be better when I sober up I guess
-
TFW you get to work and your colleague is like : "Hey boyo you got bugS to fix on that code we pushed into production"
As I was just having a better outlook on my life -
Can anyone explain why the world sucks so bad?
I mean it was much better ~1990 am I wrong?
Seems to get worse every year...
Or maybe the cynic in me grew stronger idk...3 -
when you spend hours doing reserch trying to figure out how to get a better job in a different country and some idiot comes along to say its not possible...

Our QA builds went from half and hour, to an hour and a half and my stress levels are at an all time high trying to get this hotfix out.
Better get the beer out.3 -
Nice that devRant looks better on the iPhone X now, but I think there should be some padding at the bottom, so that stuff doesn’t get too close to the home bar thingy7

"It is easier to talk than to listen. Pay attention to your clients, your users, your readers, and your friends. Your design will get better as you listen to other people. " - Ellen Lupton

How to get cheap engagement for your shitty tech website:
- write an article about Android vs iOS (even better if you state that one is better than the other justifying that with very vague points)
- share it on Facebook where hordes of people with their brain stuck in early teenage years will fiercely fight for their mobile platform of choice
- profit! -
Finish my side project of a fully functioning online search|offer free service, show it first to you guys (and relatives) and then use it as a showoff case of my full stack skills to get a better job with better salary 😅

Gonna use 2020
To get a better job (currently no job . You know why if you know me)
To be a vegetarian.
To make mom happy
To get rid of the internal burnings.
To see her again8 -
Ever get the feeling that your life is an episode of Friends?
That life presents you with opportunities and hope that your life might get better, and then everything turns out exactly the opposite of what you expected?
Fuck. -
I bet I'm the only one that reads spaghetti PHP better than whatever python script
I fucking hate all those ":" around the code.
Note: I don't want to start a war over which is better, they both get the job done in their way.
Also, none really will change its mind anyway, so just don't start a war, please?6 -
Failing to self study because i always get stuck on tutorials like so:
Do a, now do b. You should now get C. You can then proceed with d etc.
BUT I DON'T GET C. WHY NOT?! I FOLLOWED ALL YOUR FUCKING STEPS YOU SHITTY GUIDE/BOOK/ASSHOLE.
So i had to get basics from school where i could ask questions to such stupid things. It got better, but i sometimes still run in to it, and still can't google foo my way out of it. -
When your rant ++'s are stuck at 29 and you can't get a swag , yall better know that
"they see me rolling, they hatin'"3 -
The feeling you get when you have to refactor a 'refactoring effort of a common library for a better unit test coverage', because someone forgot to factor in apps using dependency injection.
DI containers have feelings too! -
Never try learning everything, better learn one thnig and get really good at it... And also: do only, what u like doing (xcept 4 job)... Sure, evthing will be fine!
-
Stupid motherfucking Youtube, for some reason I now get two fucking scrollbars whenever I open a video, effectively splitting the screen in half. It's so fucking annoying!
But get this: it only happens when I'm logged in!
Even better: it only happens when I'm logged in with my usual account for watching Youtube! If I log in with another account, the issue disappears!
Get your shit straight, YouCunt!1 -
What's with the resurgence of mechanical keyboards? Things are supposed to get better, not recycled.
This is technology, not fashion.
For me, the flat scissor switch keys on laptops have the best feel, speed and ease.8 -
I swear low serotonin depression is a superpower
I don't know how but it's always just somehow really awesome for my brain
and before I equally didn't want to get up out of bed so basically no difference between being happy or depressed, functionally!
I think depression makes me think better actually
if you're mentally lazy, just get depressed! BRAIN TREADMILL! -
Spent this week working React into one of my projects. Works fine but I don't see Any real productivity gains over modular typescript with a good js view engine.
Does it get better?3 -
1. I don't have much of a social life.
2. I Sleep whenever I get time off It makes me feel better and think better.
3. I don't get in any kind of argument I prefer losing tho rather than ramming my head in senseless arguments.
4. Most important I take a break sometimes too.. helps me keeping my mind Positive. -

Error codes are better than exceptions, because they are faster and easier to get right.
O'Rlly? Did you measure that? How does the disassembly look like? Well ... go and fucking measure it! -
I want to know what you do to improve yourself. Hard skills and soft skills.
And because I think it's important to always try to get better, do you have tips to be a better lead dev? -
Learned react recently. It's such an amazing library, way better than Angular for smaller web-apps. Any suggestions to get more in-depth with React, without randomly installing multiple packages doing the same job?9

Helped SO's parents with web dev I'm a bid to get to know them better. Figure the rest. Don't help family. Atleast not for free. Rather, just don't, unless you're okay with multiple change requests.

I've been tumbling down the webpack rabbit hole for the better part of the day. Irritable.
I get it to bundle and everything but then I can't access variables that I used to be able to. I'm confused and hungry. -
Hey Everyone, Can anyone suggest me which profile pays better between a software engineer and cloud engineer. According to this post https://interviewbit.com/blog/... software engineers get 0.8M per year and cloud engineers get Rs 7,51,756 per annum. Is it correct?
