I haven't met many people through programming but I've met many friends through devRant but certainly also through being a Linux (server) enthusiast.

At study I found some good Linux guys and now through devRant I've gotten some awesome linuxers and privacy/security like minded people who I definitely see as great friends!

I don’t like to judge people based on what languages they like (because I like all of them). But I can’t deny the pattern anymore.

Smart people know and enjoy smart languages: Smalltalk, OCaml, Clojure, Lisp, Haskell, etc. They may use JavaScript or PHP to make money, but ask them to code in their smart language and they’ll be more efficient. Getting old, some of those people say “screw it” and find a Haskell job.

While your technical expertise does matter, it does not weigh as hard through as how likeable you are; that's right, likeable. You can be an idiot, yet if you make people like you and pull the right strings, people will think you're this grand genius (while you're not!). How perception matters..

Soft skills matter somewhat, but I discovered they can make or break it. I noticed people like to be idiots and frolic around instead of taking things seriously that need to be taken seriously.

Here I am, with my expertise. People don't like me - and it makes them judge me the wrong way, like I'm stupid. Yes, imagine that, you with more skills, being looked at as stupid by idiots with little the fewer skills.

Sometimes I feel like when I make comments in pull requests, people pretend to understand what I'm talking about. Anyone else feel that way?

I find it hilarious that I am one of 2 people at my company of 60+ people that really knows front end development. Like, how have you guys made it this far without full stack devs?

I find it so ironic that people love to rag on those who copy code from StackOverflow when most of these same people use tools like composer or npm.

At least you can vet code snippets.

Our software is terrible and I'm pretty sure our department is fucked but at least I like the people I work with.

I had a user tell me how important he is and how our software is making it harder for important people like him to run reports on people in their region and how it "just doesn't make sense" for important people like him... and on and on and on and on.

I made my own blog dedicated to personal rants on ZeroNet and count already 34 people sharing it. That's insane. I guess people like people ranting and that's what @trogus and @dfox figured before everyone ;)

I don't understand how after decades, people who know what they're doing don't disable automatic updates as one of the first actions on a newly installed windows machine. People moan about it on here like they don't know.

I really hate that smart people are the worst kind of cultists. This means that people who do some pretty cool and novel stuff fall for things like Musk-fanboyism, NFT and other crypto BS, or things like outright fascistoid ideas about "MSM"-conspiracies, race-ideology or IQ... And I hate it.

Smart people who think they have "figured it out" are the most dangerous people out there. Especially if they have any kind of rethorical skills.

Mine wasn't bad. Seems like the project I am working on gets on track, I mean my team (squad) is able to do good things, I really like all the people I have on board. We all are in the same miserable but sometimes funny world.

Shit happens all the time, but at least there are other people we can share the shit with.

Sometimes I get in a mode where everyone is a potential enemy. So my mind will be say, "The fuck you say!?" in a reactionary way. When this happens I sometimes respond badly online. I am noticing this pattern before I respond. It can take great effort to not post shit online at times.

My general goals when conversing online these days:
1. Spread joy through humor. (it isn't my problem if you don't think it is funny)
2. Care for people by telling the truth. (it isn't my problem if you don't think its true. I do like exchanging ideas.)
3. Try to listen and help people if they exhibit a perceptible need. (sometimes a lone voice reaching out can make a huge difference)
4. Restrain myself when someone aggressively challenges my beliefs. (work in progress, the fuck you say?!)
5. Sharing common interests with people. (games, programming, staying sane, etc)
6. Shitting on Javascript. (not because it is true, but because it is funny. see goal 1)

Sounds of people eating or chewing. There's a phobia for that I believe, but I know people that like to chew on lollies and it really gets me into rage mode. I usually turn up the volume to prevent it from reaching my ears

...Sometimes as I read rants or comments, I look at the author’s avatar and I try to imagine how the person look like in real life... By some people I would be quite curious how they look like in real... Haha 😄😄😄

I was wondering that we, as a developer, got a platform like devRant to share ideas, talk about things that we like, can understand humour that will bounce out of any non-technical people.
In the entire world, there are so many profession (like doctors, corporate people and so on...,), without a good platform like devrant they are missing on so many things.

People in this discussion will refer to my classmates doing their project we were allowed to choose like 3 months ago and back then I already told them they won't ever manage to make it work in time.

People: "yo could you help real fast"
Me: "aaah not again but okay why not"
People: "here's the code"
Me: "the fuck is this? What is it supposed to do?"
People: "ummm it should doooo eeeerrr... Like this and .... Yeah we don't know. The output should look like that but it doesn't"
Me: "the fuck did you even try to do. That'll never work. And I told you the same thing like 3 months ago when you just chose the project. Just go and use some random math lib you find"
People: "kkkk"

Their code seriously made no sense at all. Parsing substring within like 5 nested loops and like 20vars called "s1" and "theString" and what not.

why the fuck am I stuck using a "custom javascript framework based on angular.js" instead of NORMAL FUCKING ANGULAR LIKE REGULAR PEOPLE DO.

I don't like Chrome because Windows 10 forces it to perform slowly so that edge can perform better & people can fucking use it.

I feel like if the world had been on devRant then the hack wouldn't have taken place because of the amount of people complaining about fucking Windows!

Is it bad that even though I am doing computer science in college I still feel like I am missing a lot of knowledge? Like I’ll come out of college without knowing things that people with information technology will know or things that people with computer engineering will know.

I feel like all the job descriptions out there want me to be a combination of CS, IT and CE.

The bigger the number of people smarter than me defines how much I like the company.

I really like programming but after 5 years I realized it's a very social job. We have to deal with others more than the marketing people or heck even some customer service people.

I've been a random lurker all this time (this is the first dev community I've been and I'm not planning to leave it until it dies), and it's good to login just to give my 2 cents.

I have another level of respect for people who walk fast and/or don't block others.

Especially in an over populated country like mine, at any given spot, you can have more than one thousand people.

It annoys me how people walk slowly in the middle of the lane. Just cannot do anything about it.

I don’t like conference wifi. I‘m currently in a workshop at AngularConnect, and currently more than 40 people trying to npm install at the same time. And probably the people in the other workshops (with the same wifi) doing similar things
