She: I like people who takes risks.
He : I develop in a prod server.
She: My place or you place? 😉3 -
I don't like anything political on here, but this is affecting us all, even non-US people.
Today is the day, take a stance, fight for NetNeutrality12 -
I did get a raise but we also hired like 5 new people... But I still do the same amount of work... Which was already too much...11
-
I’m the tech support of my family and I’m proud! 😎
I only hate it if other people treat me like their personal tech support9 -
Seeing how people dislike idea pitches like "It's like Uber but for ...".
I can't help but imagine how the idea of devRant might have been pitched -
"It's like Twitter but for frustrated developers" 😋7 -
I hate when people look at me weird when I talk sexy to my code. It's like how do you not find this sexy. Lol I'm in class like awww yeah pull that input and increment it you dirty software.9
-
Welp, I just turned 18 :)
I joined this place when I was roughly 16. I spent nice 2 years here. :)
I saw more people join and have fun and not be toxic. I've made friends here and this community supported me like literally no one had before. I felt like when I was down, people listened and people answered. People wrote funny rants and posted memes which helped me out when I was sad and I didn't know how to rant about it. Everyone here is kind. Everyone here is cool.
I would like to thank you all for being here all this time and I hope to keep seeing all of you here for my next birthday :D9 -
Dude, remote work in a country side city makes me feel like people think I'm a drug dealer or something
I never leave my house10 -
I am pretty sick of people treating developers like forever alone geeks that roam the internet 24/7
I mean I am one but my point stands..
It does !2 -
I like that google explains how to install Android studio after downloading it. Like people who download android studio don't know how to click next, next, next, next, install.14
-
Why people say programmer like to code at night, I don't. I just like to start coding 2 at the morning.3
-
People on github opening issues saying shit like "aye, your extension crashes. Please fix or I'll uninstall. Thanks.". How am I supposed to fix an error I know nothing about? Error message? Extension list? Stack trace? Steps to reproduce? Nope. Nothing.
Don't be like this, please.5 -
I do not understand the people that say that they hate C-like languages, because of the ; and {} they have, that are "confusing".
Like almost every modern IDE/editor pinpoints EXACTLY where you forgot something...7 -
I haven't met many people through programming but I've met many friends through devRant but certainly also through being a Linux (server) enthusiast.
At study I found some good Linux guys and now through devRant I've gotten some awesome linuxers and privacy/security like minded people who I definitely see as great friends!
Also I find it awesome that I can actually teach people stuffs that I love researching about/ doing myself!9 -
I hate when people give me shit for using a Mac. You can use whatever you prefer, let me use what I like.13
-
When people finish their rants with Fin I feel like I need to comment FIN-ACK to complete the TCP session.5
-
I had a weird dream last night where people communicated by using log statements.
Like if I wanted to say something very loud I'd think Log.wtf("WTF!") and it would appear in front of me like subtitles. Log levels were equivalent to tone level.
The scene was basically a bunch of people with log statements of various levels in front of them and their lips moving with no sound.
I think I need a vacation.2 -
Are there any other people out there who like JavaScript? It is my favorite language but I only see rants calling it a shitty language14
-
Have deleted FB account and uninstalled the app. Devrant gives me all I need for socializing with like minded people.. fuck u fb..9
-
People always asked me how I got started with Python, I always have to come up with a reason to hide the fact that I started using it because I like the name13
-
When u did too much geocoding and map stuff. People ask me where u live, i be like I live at lat 43.8 lng -79.3. Find me homie, let's chill2
-
devRant is the only social media I like and use regularly.
It certainly has it faults, as any network of people will, but overall I think it provides a much needed conversation between like-minded people.3 -
I started at a new company. I met tons of people the first day. Third day on the job a guy comes up to me and says hello. I’m like, “Hey. What’s up. Thanks for welcoming me look forward to working with you and etc. I’m still learning names. Se ya round. I should get back to work.” Totally like I would greet the janitor or anyone else.
He leaves and people tell me that he was the CEO. I kill myself laughing.6 -
Meetup guy: "oh, I did some coding too. I can write a bit of html and css"
Me: *in my head* I fucking hate people like you.1 -
I get more TshirtViews (pageviews lol) whenever I wear devRant tee 😎 Today people were like wtf this logo stands for 😂2
-
Hello devRanters! A little while ago some ranters and I who are all passionate about FOSS/Linux decided to get together in a chatroom. Slowly more people are coming in but just wanted to post this in case any foss/linux liking people would like to join! I am not even sure if this is allowed on devRant (posting something like this) so if not, my apologies and I will remove the rant!
Keep in mind that the chat exists for people who are very keen on FOSS/Linux/security/privacy so no offense but it probably isn't the best place for people who don't like/care about that stuff :).53 -
I FUCKING HATE PEOPLE WHO ALWAYS BUY NEW STUFF WHEN THEIR OLD THINGS WORK PERFECTLY FINE!
FFS PEOPLE ARE JUST FUCKING PIECES OF SHIT NOWADAYS! I MEAN, FIRST THEYRE LIKE, oh we need to save the planet bla bla.... THEN THEIR LIKE!
OMFG! NEW IPHONE X WOLOLO MUST HAVE! OMG MY OLD PHONE IS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE BUT ITS THE NEW IPHONE OMG!
I MEAN! COME FUCKING ON! WHAT IDIOTS! IF ITS WORKING, KEEP IT!
#NoHomo12 -
devRant is the first time I see so many people announcing to the world how much they like the app. Imagine someone be like "I LOVE Facebook! <3"
Btw, I LOVE devRant! <33 -
I fucking hate it when people completely ignore/forget something I say and then later say the same thing like they came up with it.12
-
Last week one of my non-dev coworkers asked if any of us knew java and I was like "yeah, think I can help you" then she showed me her JavaScript issue and I was like:
"Wtf, people really do this shit..." -
I downloaded devRant yesterday and now I'm hooked. The effect of being with so many like-minded people :)1
-
I went to bed early... Got a strange feeling the next morning... It felt like what other people describe as 'good'.7
-
I'm almost an introvert. I don't like talking to people much. I prefer to listen. Today one of the graduating seniors told me I should talk to people more. But I've been doing fine so far without talking to more people.12
-
So, Twitter fired the entire Indian team (or almost, Im not so sure) and one person posted on LinkedIn that went like, "If you've been laid off, just learn something new and Upskill yourself."
Like yeah, no shit Sherlock.
I imagine this is the same kind of people who tell depressed people, "Oh, you're depressed? Just Cheer Up!"6 -
It's sad. My teammates are resigning :( Damn management for not taking care of people that they already have. You hire new people with higher pay and let your existing people with lower pay teach them. I just feel like resigning too.5
-
It's weird. I started a little chat with like minded foss/linux lovers and i started it with me and three other devRanters and now we are growing so fast! Weird but proud that I brought a lot of like minded people together 😊21
-
Just curious, how is it like to work as a developer. I mean, as a profession and not a hobby or freelancing.
From devRant, so far I know that you work in an office, the managers and bosses are assholes, and people always write unmanageable and undocumented code.
What else is it like? Do you get to work alone or do you have to work with people? Do you stay there all day long?
I know its still going to be a while for me, but I want to know how it will be like.24 -
Not a software bug but an organisational bug...
Employees holding the door to other people so they can come into a secured building without using their identity badges.
I look like an asshole everytime I refuse to let people I don't know in because most people let them in...12 -
Customer: '... But we really like our boxed layout with the yellow background color!'
Me: 'I think we should start seeing other people...'3 -
Well, I guess all the Linux folks are going to know what I am talking about. Do you know this feeling (Yes, you know. Don't tell me anything.) when you use Linux and nobody else uses Linux in your Work/School. And these people come to you and say.
Stupid people : Oh! You use Linux. That's bullshit!
Me : No it's not. It doesn't do 24/7 updates like Windows.
Stupid people : No, Linux is bullshit you don't have money for Windows. And Linux can't run professional Applications.
Unfortunately there is no medicine that cures dumbness. Just saying ...
I'd rather stay not dumb like these people instead of buying another Windows license.24 -
Hey welcome back depression and feeling of uselessness, i thought we broke up in the hospital but seems like some exes stay with people.6
-
I get so damn angry when people treat me like tech support.that I made my WhatsApp profile picture the following3
-
Why don't people like Java? With only a year of AP comp sci for experience, I don't know enough about it to say I do or don't like it. But it's widely used, and is an official language of Android. Are the people hating on Java just people that don't use it? Or is there something about Java that people just genuinely despise?35
-
People that blast their video in a restaurant that isn't that loud are awful people.
Like fuck you I don't wanna hear your garbage video at full volume you cock sucking cunts.4 -
I find it hard to take people serious when they keep telling me to 'ssh into the server' ...like shhhh, not S.S.H7
-
While most people want the force to get stuff like a TV remote, I want to use it to get people thinking how they can solve their problems independently4
-
I'm far from being a Linux fanboy, but Linus Torvalds is such a great guy to listen to while coding. I like how down to earth and straightforward he is. The tech world needs more people like him.5
-
Everyday I see on DevRant people hating Java, PHP, JavaScript, .NET, C++, C#... Then what do you like ??26
-
I don’t like to judge people based on what languages they like (because I like all of them). But I can’t deny the pattern anymore.
Smart people know and enjoy smart languages: Smalltalk, OCaml, Clojure, Lisp, Haskell, etc. They may use JavaScript or PHP to make money, but ask them to code in their smart language and they’ll be more efficient. Getting old, some of those people say “screw it” and find a Haskell job.
You, my friend, are not one of those people. You are VSCode-dwelling goblin who thinks lambda calculus has something to do with JS arrow function notation, is scared of reduce() and not even good at the single fucking language they know.
Insta coders and that mechanical keyboard collector dorks are not “superstars” you got to be like.11 -
Currently -28C. People from us be like: omg guys, it was like 40F today i thought i was gonna freeze my fingers off xD5
-
You know what irks me is whenever people ask me how to do something without Googling it first.
Like ffs whenever I Google the same issue because I don't know the answer either, it's literally the first fucking result. Like damn bruh.
I don't mind helping people at all, but please at least try to be an adult and Google the fucking question first.13 -
I lost one of my idols, there are few people I have that much respect for. I literally can not think of anyone else infact.
Ive just been taking a second.🙁 I mean you live your life thinking there's time or that you can wait to do things , like I'll just do that one thing a little later. But it's not true. The reality is there's so little time.
There are few truly great people. It's going to take me a little while to get over it properly.
But when I do I hope I don't switch back into old patterns.
I want to be just like him, his work was amazing. He worked all the time not because of fame or money but because he just wanted to make cool shit for people to enjoy. Because he enjoyed it himself and he liked seeing people amazed and happy due to his work.
The best people are the types of people who bring a smile to your face by just being who they are.
It was enough to know he was out there doing his thing being that incredible, it never occured to me he could just be gone. The world needs more people like him especially now with everything so fucked up. He died far to young. 33 isn't old it's not even middle aged
All I want is to be like him, I hope I will be one day 😞 and I'm going to start trying right now.
And I will try harder.4 -
@linuxxx
I have a suggestion for you,
Please set up an Unbound resolver so people does not have to depend on big actors like Google, Cloudflare or quad9.13 -
People that made a couple PHP tweaks to WordPress be like, "I am a full stack developer." on LinkedIn.5
-
Other people:
- I got 20k upvoted post on 9gag
- I got 25k over like on my fb profile picture
Me:
- I got 200 over ++ on devrant :D1 -
People like to have "sent from my iPhone" or "sent from my Android" and I set mine to "sent from my PDP-7." Surprised the older people I work with that I even know what that is lol.4
-
A few of you have used the big-screened TI calculators. Like 1 of those people knows I write demos for the monochrome 6MHz Z80 ones.
I have news for that person.11 -
I feel I should open a github repo, for people to contribute privacy policy parts into, have say folders like "google analytics" and then whenever people encounter those in the wild, add examples there, so people could fetch together a full privacy policy for free, as all those new cashgrab websites are just fucking insane. But I am not really sure, if that would find any contributors tbh sadly.
P.S: I seem to have developed now a third sense, when the devrant post cooldown is down, so I can rant more lol, because whenever I feel like posting the thought or rant, the cooldown is just about to expire -
When people ask me:
- Why doesn't it work?
I catch myself often responding like this:
- How exactly it doesn't work?2 -
I love walking round in a facemask cause people always gimme a "wtf" look like im a criminal and also wordpress is a fucking joke lmao13
-
Windows. There, I said it.
3 years ago I got a Mac and it just made sense to me.
Many people don't like Mac and love Windows and that's fine by me.5 -
Scrum. And agile. And people over-communicating. And estimating work complexity on a prototype. And people in general. I like nights, when all annoying people just shut the fuck up and sleep.1
-
One day a boy asked me that why don't you use FaceBook , I replied "People Like me Develop FaceBook instead of using it"5
-
Never tell normal people (non-developers) how much time it took you to build something.
They will always be like 'I thought that was a 2-day work'3 -
[context: sitting in a chair, posting a comment here in devRant]
Other Person (jokingly): "That doesn't look like volunteer work, that looks like texting!"
Me (awkwardly): "Haha, yeah..."
Me (internally): If only I had people to text...3 -
Only on devRant do I actually feel like I'm making a contribution.
I have over 500++ and I know that the people that see what I'm posting understand what I'm saying. -
What profession would you say is most like software development? I'd love to be able to give people an idea of what I do, without making it sound like witchcraft...10
-
I feel like I have to boot into Linux before making a screenshot of something in order to get more ++ because people love Linux and (most) hate Windows.7
-
Is this what people call american dream? Like, I get it, it's targeted at 3rd world but seriously? A month of development for $500 and with excluded taxes??14
-
Sometimes I feel like people hate on Windows and Microsoft (and Google, Apple, Facebook, ect) just because it's trendy. 🤷🤷14
-
I hate backendphobia! It feels like so common nowadays. People scare other people with backend being too hard and stuff, and that feeling of scariness is something that infects lot of people. Please stop fearing the backend!
Yes, some backend stuff can be hard, but there's no good reason to fear it. I just hate it when I go to a new team and they all seem to be backendphobics idiots. I've build enough backends to not give in to the fear, pls stop scaring people.11 -
Now I feel bad for calling myself a programmer as a highschooler after seeing so many people shitting on the younger people. Goddammit I picked up programming because I thought it was cool and fun not because I want money or shit. I'm not the retard kiddies that overstate my ability. I like coding, I just like coding.
Now I wanna quit.7 -
Ok, Why tha Fuck does everyone bitch about javascript, like seriously why?
Its a damn great language and i have fun working with it. sure some people prefer other languages but it seems people who haven't even tried JS properly talk shit about it.20 -
Looking at some legacy code and I was like wtf, later read the author name and it was me.
How people were tolerating me than! Man😂 -
Am I the only one who would like to sign every project like "guiltily developed on a Mac"?
You know? Usually people say put stuff like "Proudly developed through wordpress or similar"6 -
Ya know what I hate? People who always find an excuse to let people know about their problems or if they are vegan.
Every time I'm like, THANKS! DIDN'T ASK!4 -
I always hear "its impossible to talk to tech people, its like they're from another planet". Well get used to it, cuz the nerds shall inherit the earth!!2
-
Saying I am an Android developer is another way of letting people ask 'can you build something like WhatsApp?'
Well there is world beyond that! Grow up people. Just tired of listening this. Fuck off.2 -
I hate when people make posts and use emojis that my phone doesn't know about.
I'm looking at people like you @varEnigmatic.1 -
I like devrant because this is the only place where I feel that I'm surrounded by intelligent people, and honestly, I needed this badly.
Why are you here?15 -
People hate Amazon, people like to hate on Amazon.
But people also keep buying from Amazon
This morning I took an amazon return package to DHL and literally at 17:00 this day (the same day!) I got the refund to my bank account
What the fuck. I mean yeah I hate amazon as much as the next guy. But that's literally why people are buying from amazon. You can't just say "amazon bad" and then not also appreciate when they are doing something good12 -
Quick survey: What do y'all like being referred to as? (Engineer, programmer, developer, etc.) I like developer but I find that people rarely get what that means12
-
I hate when people ask you to find their deleted files. Fucking people! It is like asking an architech to recover something from their trash bin. People are idiots that don't want to learn. Some people think that they know a lot of computing and barely can power on they monitors. At this level of average stupidity, people should get licenses to use computers.7
-
I've noticed when I talk to people I use terms like "true" and "false" a lot. Like "Dude that's totally false". "So true!"
#CantHelpIt💻5 -
Love development
Like the people I work with including the boss
Okay with the salary I guess
Fucking hate the customers -
I wonder what kind of website's people like DaVinci, Van Gogh, Tesla Einstein, etc. Would've had nowwadays4
-
I'm thinking of starting a service of creating WordPress sites for people.
But there are like 1928372829+ companies doing that.
Am I late to the party?9 -
Ublock orgin the improved version of adblock, access less RAM and filters better than adblock.
Reason I'm posting this, is that I saw a post about adblock and how some people really don't like it anymore as it doesn't block all of the ads like it used to.
Just hoping to save some people from malicious popups/annoying ads.2 -
Why do I have to "grow" into a managerial role? I like doing what I am doing and would like to do it more. Anyone with some serious advice on how to stay relevant in software development with greying hair and without growing into people management?4
-
Me, thinking, at the supermarket at 12:00 buying lunch:
“Doesn’t all these people have jobs?”
Seriously, I can’t be the only one thinking like this 🧐4 -
Drinking alcohol is soo good for my social life because my autopilot is far better with people.
Somehow people can actually really get to know and like me then.
Will this ever change for normal me (22 yo) or should I just keep going out?12 -
I love the mix of people’s setups. There are those with actual monitors set up in a nice curved way, and then there are people with like 10 random laptops set up on their desks like they hoard electronics3
-
I don't fucking get it why people find it normal to have a zoom meeting run in background for the whole working hours.
Like WTF11 -
I can't believe I've been here for a year already. Where has the time gone?
Well, here's to another year of ranting with like-minded people!1 -
Had an interview today with someone who made me feel like I knew nothing. Best experience I have ever had in an interview. I know it sounds weird, but I actually felt like I learned a lot from that man and would like to work with people who make me feel that way.
Unfortunately, that will probably not happen after that interview.3 -
I hate those morons who do QA by simply clicking around. You are a disgrace to people like me who like to code and still enjoy doing testing.
Get a life you fuckers. You are the sole reason why many people in industry thinks that QA is something anybody can do.
Yes, I agree you can test the application, but in no way you could ensure the quality of the product.4 -
So was just reading this article about Chinese people becoming more lonely and it mentioned Xiao Ice which is pretty much like Google's... What's her name?
It said how people can talk to it like an actual person so I gave it a try... Well it's just as dumb as the others...
https://ozy.com/fast-forward/...4 -
I just saw people speaking about arch linux. Seems like there is not a lot of people using arch here. So I may be the only one on Gentoo? :'(10
-
I noticed I adopted a method when people just can't answer something simple like "well how long is it going to last?" and then getting an answer like "I don't know", which to I reply "Well, what's the average it lasts?" and they suddenly remember it again, fucking knobs2
-
People complaining about me using white theme are like people being dicks about what I wear.
Just take care about your business9 -
If you said “I like webpack” when I said “Fuck Webpack.” I have downvoted your comment.
Keep your satanism in your own corner, we will stay here in our universe without people like you who enjoy pain and internal death.6 -
Anyone else have random channels popping up in the subscriptions tab on YouTube?
I feel like YouTube is subbing to random people for me…
Stop it.8 -
I didn't think this were true when I started out programming in the field, but now that I've been working for a few years, I've discovered this:
While your technical expertise does matter, it does not weigh as hard through as how likeable you are; that's right, likeable. You can be an idiot, yet if you make people like you and pull the right strings, people will think you're this grand genius (while you're not!). How perception matters..
Soft skills matter somewhat, but I discovered they can make or break it. I noticed people like to be idiots and frolic around instead of taking things seriously that need to be taken seriously.
Here I am, with my expertise. People don't like me - and it makes them judge me the wrong way, like I'm stupid. Yes, imagine that, you with more skills, being looked at as stupid by idiots with little the fewer skills.
It would be neat if I were valued for my skills, not how much someone likes me!
This industry is... disappointing.10 -
When people tap my shoulder even when I'm without headphones I get into a super rage like dude... Why the hell are you touching me1
-
i feel like everything around me is catching fire, so I'm trying to put it out while also keeping a customer service smile and dealing with people5
-
I wish people expressed more nuance in their opinions. However, online social networks are often not built to encourage nuance, and I feel like most people take nuance for a lack of self-confidence which they take in turn for a lack of authority.11
-
What’s with all these people saying, “reach out to help for me anytime!” - but when you actually ask for help, they never respond? Like damn looks like I can’t trust ya cad ass anymore.4
-
Damn people are hostile today... I wonder why. Could it be the heat?
I suppose that this is one of the reasons why I like working at night, alone, at my desk though. No people to worry about.2 -
I am always perplexed by people who write stuff like: "I don't know why people would use Rust, I simply never write code with bugs in it"
Just, lol
Like, using C or C++ is fine of course, but don't pretend you're perfect and that all of your bounds are checked, all of your allocations are freed exactly once and that you never forget to lock a mutex.19 -
Wait, you mean to tell me, here I am with imposter syndrome, and some people can't even write a test for is-odd? Like people who are *less* competent than that are actually passing interviews?6
-
People who have personal experience,
What's the best place to do micro-jobs for like $10-$50 that I can do as a freelancer in like an hour? Is Fiverr a good place?11 -
it kills when people say dual boot Linux with Windows. I know how painful it is. as people who like to install Linux just pray why doesn't Linux supports it all. because all they want to do is use Linux full time. 😑😖😭8
-
People say they don't remember 10 years back.
Sh*t, I don't even remember this code. I mean, I wrote it like yesterday3 -
Is it only me that I feel I am so special for being a programmer, and also able to think, learn, and analyze better than other people?
I feel like we are small group of people that do magical things that change the world while nobody even realizes or appreciates what we do4 -
I Fucking hate people!!!!!
Im not a nazi but i hate people.!
I hate every one! White, blqck, yellow, beige, purple and dont get me started on the orange ones!!!
I hate people woth physical disabilities, i hate people with mental disabilities, hell i hate people who hate disabilities.
I hate people.
I hate people who are isually good but only occasionnaly bad, i hate people who are bad, i also hate people who are nice bur dont know shit about coding.
I hate emos as well even if i sound like one.
I juse hate people and for that i hate myself....
Makes me want to listent to tayler swift no shit.16 -
I don’t understand people who have sounds alongside vibration and flash for notification. Like, dude, is one not enough?2
-
Reply to a recruiter today quoting her email:
You will end up with more qualified people if you don't use blatantly fictitious statements like. "While it's not often that I like to email people I don' t know (especially those in different cities!)" You're a recruiter using LinkedIn, the activity of recruiting is partially doing exactly the above.
No interest, have a good day. -
People are so cheap. I hear people say things like "Frontend Masters is too expensive." I'm pretty sure that I just got 2k of value in the last 3 hours... Maybe those people aren't 'cheap' per say - but more generally, don't understand the concept of value. I'm sure they see that attribute in their clients, but never themselves. Better for me I suppose!4
-
For me it is not difficult to explain other people what I am doing as a programmer, but what company I am working for. We write software for the administration of cemeteries. People often look at me like I am joking. So I was wondering: What was your weirdest project/Job as a developer?1
-
Question, have you ever felt like you have been pigeonholed into specific languages? I am feeling more and more like I am getting forced onto projects because to few people know the language (LabVIEW). getting tired of it, and not sure what the way out is.18
-
Anybody here who also uses comment tags? I like to leave "M.C. Hammer" in particular snippets of code so other people know that that part... Can't touch this.1
-
There are two kinds op people. People who like to help because they feel sorry for you, and people who want to help to proof themselves.
The second one is annoying as fuck. Even though i asked for help, it doesn’t mean you are better in it then me.
You should listen to what i have to say. Stuck up anti social asshole.7 -
I hate it when people use like 7 "if" statements instead of like.. 2? And when they do not nest "if"s.
For ex. :
if(condition1 && condition2){
}
if(condition1 && condition3){
}
.....
" But I am writing it out longer to understand better! "
Yet it eventually stays that way with like 50 lines of "if"s..1 -
Never enter an elevator after your PM.
I just did and he asked me to tell a job applicant (i think) who was standing next to him whether it's worth it to work there.
As I am utter shit at small talk, improvising and talking to people in general i looked like an idiot who didn't like the company while trying to get out of that conversation.
This guy just loves putting people in awkward situations.2 -
When I teach/help someone with code without telling them explicitly what to type and their solution works and they get hyped af. Never gets old. I like helping people.3
-
Sometimes I feel like when I make comments in pull requests, people pretend to understand what I'm talking about. Anyone else feel that way?4
-
I find it hilarious that I am one of 2 people at my company of 60+ people that really knows front end development. Like, how have you guys made it this far without full stack devs?2
-
On the Dutch version of Linkedin the word 'like' is translated to 'interesting'
I like to imagine thousands of people giving each other 'thinking' emoji's (🤔) all day long1 -
I find it so ironic that people love to rag on those who copy code from StackOverflow when most of these same people use tools like composer or npm.
At least you can vet code snippets.3 -
Our software is terrible and I'm pretty sure our department is fucked but at least I like the people I work with.
-
I had a user tell me how important he is and how our software is making it harder for important people like him to run reports on people in their region and how it "just doesn't make sense" for important people like him... and on and on and on and on.
I was on the phone for over 30 minutes.
Deep sigh -
If people would change their name in real life like here on devRant I would be maximally irritated!!1
-
Contact tracing is scary as fuck!
I feel like we should all make an effort to tell people not build these things6 -
Considering applying to a regular administrative job, where I can use just 1% of my dev skills in BAT files, Excel macros, browser automation with Selenium, and people will be like "oh man, you are like a hacker!!!"1
-
Can anyone recommend some good Linux user group?? I wanna learn more and connect to people who like it.14
-
People talk about hacking like, "I don't do it cause its illegal", like they could if it wasn't/ )))2
-
People might like it. People might love it. People might wanna kiss it. People might wanna share bed with it.
But I just don't feel it. -
Sometimes it feel like I'm being awkward, not awkward to normal people but awkward to awkward people. Something Like double awkward. The irony is that, I fucking know I'm being super weird. I just prey for that moment to pass as soon as possible.1
-
I just found the current main project of the people who originally wrote the codebase I’m mainly working with. After all these years they still write incoherent spaghetti mess. I need to make a throwaway GH account just to tell them people like them are the reason people hate PHP…1
-
I want to quit. I don’t feel like writing code anymore. I feel burnt out. As fuck. People keep changing requirements leaving me to do the impossible. And honestly do their dirty work.2
-
PHP why do people hate you ? personnaly i like React but i prefer vanilla js 😍
Can anyone tell me why people hate PHP. He is a good guy, i think 😅
exit;9 -
Why did people upgrade to windows 10 its such a piece of shit, sticking to windows 7 then if i feel like i need to on linux it is.3
-
Why people loves Java? It's because the maintenance or something in architectural level? I don't understand, because we have languages like Python with a better syntax and languages like C++ with a better optimization and speed of processing9
-
People sound like they hate their jobs here. What's your favorite part of being a dev? I like the idea of turning an idea into a real thing3
-
Talking to another coworker today:
me: Have you ever looked at a coworker and realized they are Halloween ready?
coworker: <laughing> Some people are ready all year round!
(side note: I feel like devrant needs a test before people can post here. The paper bag challenge should be enough I think.)1 -
I made my own blog dedicated to personal rants on ZeroNet and count already 34 people sharing it. That's insane. I guess people like people ranting and that's what @trogus and @dfox figured before everyone ;)13
-
I don't understand how after decades, people who know what they're doing don't disable automatic updates as one of the first actions on a newly installed windows machine. People moan about it on here like they don't know.5
-
I really hate that smart people are the worst kind of cultists. This means that people who do some pretty cool and novel stuff fall for things like Musk-fanboyism, NFT and other crypto BS, or things like outright fascistoid ideas about "MSM"-conspiracies, race-ideology or IQ... And I hate it.
Smart people who think they have "figured it out" are the most dangerous people out there. Especially if they have any kind of rethorical skills.10 -
Why do people hate wordpress so much? It honestly fucks me off the amount of hate it gets and I honestly get a little triggered when people give me the "aww people who use Wordpress aren't real web devs" comment? Like fuck off i use Wordpress to make using a site more easy for my clients you daft cunt. 😩23
-
How was your day?
Mine wasn't bad. Seems like the project I am working on gets on track, I mean my team (squad) is able to do good things, I really like all the people I have on board. We all are in the same miserable but sometimes funny world.
Shit happens all the time, but at least there are other people we can share the shit with. -
Sometimes I get in a mode where everyone is a potential enemy. So my mind will be say, "The fuck you say!?" in a reactionary way. When this happens I sometimes respond badly online. I am noticing this pattern before I respond. It can take great effort to not post shit online at times.
My general goals when conversing online these days:
1. Spread joy through humor. (it isn't my problem if you don't think it is funny)
2. Care for people by telling the truth. (it isn't my problem if you don't think its true. I do like exchanging ideas.)
3. Try to listen and help people if they exhibit a perceptible need. (sometimes a lone voice reaching out can make a huge difference)
4. Restrain myself when someone aggressively challenges my beliefs. (work in progress, the fuck you say?!)
5. Sharing common interests with people. (games, programming, staying sane, etc)
6. Shitting on Javascript. (not because it is true, but because it is funny. see goal 1)1 -
Sounds of people eating or chewing. There's a phobia for that I believe, but I know people that like to chew on lollies and it really gets me into rage mode. I usually turn up the volume to prevent it from reaching my ears2
-
...Sometimes as I read rants or comments, I look at the author’s avatar and I try to imagine how the person look like in real life... By some people I would be quite curious how they look like in real... Haha 😄😄😄14
-
I know people like to rant about Apple removing ports, but it was a great day for a great cable standard yesterday!1
-
All this talk of javascript fatigue, and yet when tools like parceljs come out people still regress to webpack... I don't get it9
-
I was wondering that we, as a developer, got a platform like devRant to share ideas, talk about things that we like, can understand humour that will bounce out of any non-technical people.
In the entire world, there are so many profession (like doctors, corporate people and so on...,), without a good platform like devrant they are missing on so many things.1 -
People in this discussion will refer to my classmates doing their project we were allowed to choose like 3 months ago and back then I already told them they won't ever manage to make it work in time.
People: "yo could you help real fast"
Me: "aaah not again but okay why not"
People: "here's the code"
Me: "the fuck is this? What is it supposed to do?"
People: "ummm it should doooo eeeerrr... Like this and .... Yeah we don't know. The output should look like that but it doesn't"
Me: "the fuck did you even try to do. That'll never work. And I told you the same thing like 3 months ago when you just chose the project. Just go and use some random math lib you find"
People: "kkkk"
Their code seriously made no sense at all. Parsing substring within like 5 nested loops and like 20vars called "s1" and "theString" and what not. -
why the fuck am I stuck using a "custom javascript framework based on angular.js" instead of NORMAL FUCKING ANGULAR LIKE REGULAR PEOPLE DO.4
-
I don't like Chrome because Windows 10 forces it to perform slowly so that edge can perform better & people can fucking use it.8
-
I feel like if the world had been on devRant then the hack wouldn't have taken place because of the amount of people complaining about fucking Windows!2
-
Is it bad that even though I am doing computer science in college I still feel like I am missing a lot of knowledge? Like I’ll come out of college without knowing things that people with information technology will know or things that people with computer engineering will know.
I feel like all the job descriptions out there want me to be a combination of CS, IT and CE.2 -
The bigger the number of people smarter than me defines how much I like the company.
More is better.3 -
I really like programming but after 5 years I realized it's a very social job. We have to deal with others more than the marketing people or heck even some customer service people.3
-
DevRanters, Do people still wear masks in your area/region/country?
I can say for my area, its like Covid never happened.20 -
So I have seen this rant: https://devrant.io/rants/786219/... and I noticed that people said that they want to use the text for themselves. As you can't copy from the picture, here you go:
https://pastebin.com/zJnpSAHz2 -
I managed to remember some old Bitwarden (password manager service, I remember that linuxxx recommended me this one a looong time ago) credentials, so I logged in. I found an old devRant account - not my first though (I deleted it).
I've been a random lurker all this time (this is the first dev community I've been and I'm not planning to leave it until it dies), and it's good to login just to give my 2 cents.
I love you all. Seriously. I love you all with every single bit of my heart (get it?), impartially. Thanks for existing.
Here's an interrupted "caramelCase posted a new rant!"; it's actually longer but a wild guy ++'d my comment.
p.s: seeing my avatar, I don't use c++ anymore. I've just grew with Python haha10 -
I have another level of respect for people who walk fast and/or don't block others.
Especially in an over populated country like mine, at any given spot, you can have more than one thousand people.
It annoys me how people walk slowly in the middle of the lane. Just cannot do anything about it.7 -
I don’t like conference wifi. I‘m currently in a workshop at AngularConnect, and currently more than 40 people trying to npm install at the same time. And probably the people in the other workshops (with the same wifi) doing similar things4
-
How the fuck do classes work in Python? Why, exactly, do people make them for themselves? I get doing it for like making modules other people will use, but just for your own shit...?25
-
So i hear people like Enki, since i have been using it before it launched, forgot i had invites.
Your Enki invite code: NBLAC782.
Learn more at: https://enki.com/2 -
I feel like most people on here specialize in Javascript since that's what seems to be discussed the most here.6
-
Right now I am doing job in non-tech firm. There people are so diff. I feel they are rainbow as my life is black n white. I got no friend there its been 10 weeks. May be because I dont talk much or may be bc I dont share my food.
Aahhh even I like staying alone. People sucks.5 -
I already have two (very smart) people telling me my frameworkless JavaScript looks like Go. But I don't know Go and never wrote a line in it.2
-
I have a good job. I like my job. I keep feeling detached to the job like I am an outsider. I don't have a reason for this. I like the people I work with. They are kind and treat me well.
Inflation depresses me as I feel the crunch though.3 -
If(person.getState().equals("Texas")){
person.setCanDrive(false);
}
Like I was just driving to my class and so many people were driving like maniacs. So frustrating >. <3 -
After solving that production issue which people debugged the entire night.. feels like..
I am the eggman
I am the walrus
Teams like..
Goo goo goo job..1 -
Do people still use redis when you already use postgres? How is pg perf if you are writing like 10,000s of row data/second. I am slightly outdated....12
-
Misused phrases by non-tech people I can't stand in 2020: "the new normal" & "telework". It's like how in 2018 everyone used "algorithm" like they knew what they were talking about. Same thing in 2007 with "accelerometer".7
-
As we're sitting like nearly all day, my sit is like dead.. I was wondering if some (tall) people have recommendation about good sit ?
I'm not living US so please, don't give me Walmart references. :p
Thanks4 -
I always hated handshakes, being an in crowed and public places where a lot of people wandering around so no problem for people like me but i see people are idiots.
BTW i am staying home today. I called in sick (I am not sick actually, just taking care of myself)
Shaking hands, kissing, working together and private offices staying open.
and some company owners including mine are like :2 -
I read this post somewhere where this son of a bitch created 4 5 accounts, then submitted fake PRs across those accounts to each other during Hacktoberfest.
People like these are fucking losers absolutely destroying the credibility of a event like Hacktoberfest.
People like them would sell of their own fucking soul for a T shirt
Do you agree?3 -
I remember being a TA for an intermediate java class. I tried helping as many people as I could, but some of them were doomed. Their code looked like it was written by Satan himself. I would try explaining why their code was bad, but it was like speaking another language (no pun intended). It was also the first class where people needed to use git... I don't need any more explanation there.3
-
Ah thank you for understanding.
PS: I respect people answering on StackOverflow - really helps, even though I don't like the answer itself.6 -
Do you ever take a step back and think about how we look to non technical people? Sometimes I think they look at us like code monkeys and others like rockstars.3
-
I love to tinker with electronics and different embedded boards. For some guys its like I'm hacking government or something. Why everything is always about hacking with people?2
-
!rant
how come I can't ++ my own rant or comment
Like I'm sick of people telling me I can't like myself.
I can fucking like myself if I want to.
It's my body my life.
We live in the age of self love and all that other shit.
Let me ++ myself.
Oh wait I figured it out.
++ing yourself might lead to spam rants where people post a hundred rants and ++ themselves for points.
I propose that ++ing ourselves become legal but it doesn't effect our total ++ rank9 -
Why do you (if you do) prefer dynamic languages? I.E Python, Ruby, JS over Kotlin, Swift, and Haskell? (I know why people don't like Java, I purposefully omitted that).12
-
This was the first intense work day for month, seems like people is coming back from vacation now.
I worked 4 hours straight.2 -
Wondering where people find good paid coding gigs(like freelance or contacts)
Debated it instead of trying to go into a company but all I see is like code me an aimbot or farm bot for a game5 -
I honestly don't know how people use Apple products. I feel like Apple is so limited. I don't know maybe I am wrong because I have used nothing but Android my whole life....5
-
I started to learn vim.. when i hear people say "vim is powerful" i was like.. "how powerful can it really be.. what does 'power' even mean".... now i see.. wow! Incredible tool to know.2
-
On one hand, it would be nice to have someone else help me out. On the other hand, I like having total control and knowledge of the source and I don't like people messing with it.
-
I'm dreading having spam on whatsapp when i go back to work. i wish people would just use email like sensible human beings3
-
I understand the desire people have to use an open source driver for their graphics card, but it feels like that's not the only reason people seem averse to using nvidia's closed-source driver on linux. I have used it for years, and never had a problem, and though I have an admittedly specific use scope, I would like to know what it is that people dislike about it. What problems do you have with it?3
-
I see a lot of people here coding using terminal editors like vim. Isn’t it better to use an IDE rather than vim? How do people in the industry do it?3
-
I would like to take this moment to thank @Jase for FINALLY getting me to +100! I feel like it's taken me so long compared to most other people.7
-
I don't understand people that say
'I like the current format of the readme more'
...
What formatting??
This was the PR:
https://github.com/SakuraNoKisetsu/...9 -
I know there is no comparison possible, but I kinda switched from 9gag to here.
I let you imagine how it's like a new world opening to me. Much community, such interresting people.
Gratitudes.22 -
Somebody asked people to make mom jokes about Skyrim on reddit. Here is my entry:
"I thought about teaching your mom to shout, but I was like fus-ro-nah!"4 -
Curious about people's opinions on CMS's. I feel like charging people thousands of dollars for a WordPress page seems unreasonable but it seems to be a common thing.3
-
How do you deal with excessive praise, especially from people without any knowledge if the stuff you do.
It messes with me because I kinda feel like some of the shit is easy, so it's like I'm getting too much. -
I love it when there is a win and everybody is hyped, bit then there are people like me that also remember the losses of the past 🤭
-
It's common belief that developers don't like people and they(we!) prefer to stay away from people and social situations.
So I was wondering how true is it?2 -
This is what being an arrogant asshole looks like.
I really like devrant. I met a community of like-minded people and i had a lot of fun here. But then I also notice a pattern of people who are seeking to insult and hurt.
But I'm not going to a website to get insulted.
@aviophile
@FastNop
@Lensflare
You won. I'm just a dumb frontender / webdev or whatever. i don''t have a degree in comp. sci. I should go flip burger
RIP my 8 years old account. RIP too my support to devrant.
I hope it worth being a scumbag to protect your technical purity, assholes.52 -
Paycheck currently isn't compensating the current workload anymore.
I feel like we are missing 10 couple of hands while only three people are on vacation1 -
Some people have this attitude of not giving a fuck. Like if something does not work, they'll be like "yeah" and move on.
If I can't perform some task at my work, I get crazy but for some it's just nothing. Like yeah so it happened.2 -
Is it something like, with a great salary band you don't need to go to US? I'm a software developer, I get good money, in India.
There are a lot of people moving to US, the people I think can only take right decisions.14 -
I remember when fashion looked like this. But now… what happened? Since when exactly did people turn into living billboards for overpriced brands?4
-
Because I dev, people think of me as a tech guru to consult on everything related to anything more tech than a stone.
Like guiding people on how to insert their ethernet cable when "the internet suddenly shut down".2 -
So...
I'm from Portugal, Europe
How will the law against net neutrality afect me? (or anyone outside the U.S.)
And... how can a law pass when 90% of people (who has a opinion) is against it?
U.S. people/gov are wird... (not all... I douth there are any Moricas here). At least If I get cancer, HIV or something like that I get free treatment... like Obama tried to do...6 -
Ngl i just joined devrant to get a free merch but now i am liking it
pretty sure there are more people like me8 -
Waking up. Though I wish I didn't have to. Wouldn't it be nice if you could sleep-code (like how some people sleep-walk)?2
-
Why is perl soo notorious? and why do people hate it. Like I'm a networking guy and sys admin and I like to write scripts and it's really handy. Though it annoys sometimes but it still helps.5
-
I always did amusing those discussions about development IDE . People seem to worship software like if it is a god or like if it really matters which one you use.1
-
Any people using Julia here for something real. Like analysis or building applications? Is it worth learning or should I stick to python and cpp ?2
-
Today, I saw a car has NationalGeographic tag on it but drives just like Dakar Rally, wtf with this people :/
-
The amount of people who complain about puns on this website surprises me. I guess they don't like puns, Not one bit.1
-
Am I the only one that feels like I'am not doing anything worthy at my current job ? I mean... I don't want to develop stupid apps for stupid people...5
-
Trying to read the description/usage for WP functions to figure out what's going on is like getting lost inside a maze...inside a maze.
I swear people write these descriptions for people who already know what the functions are and what they do. #UselessToMe -
I want to make dev community like devRant only for people who lives in my country (because we don’t speak English)
I just know some more community like this.
Can you guys recommend some? -
Hello devrant people.. I have joined today. I am a software QA and I like to create little web applications by self learning. I like to use rest API which are free and public.4
-
I wish all women looked like Skyler wright. Also fuck all people named Tori how peculiar times two18
-
I think this is the best "forum" to meet people that is like u, I mean that has almost the same idea and that do the same thing. I love communities like this one!!!!!
And do u like my new avatar? -
I don't see my around much aged people.
Its like around 30-40s. I wonder if I can survive long in this sector or should I see for another options. But I love being dev :(1 -
Spent more than 15 hours working on a very complicated Sharepoint workflow (don’t laugh, I had like four people telling me what they needed). I pitch the workflow and they’re like yeah it’s awesome except for everything that you did!
So I had to delete two parts of it, and am now essentially rewriting it from the top. I feel like dying and coming back just to haunt these people.1 -
What is your preferred IDE?
I feel the most comfortable in Visual Studio and have heard from many others that VS is their IDE of choice, but I've also heard other people shame VS users and opt for something like Notepad++ or even no IDE at all, just a basic text editor. Granted, I'm not gonna back down from VS, I love it, but I really want to hear what other people like to use?13 -
I like to switch up my Google Meet and Zoom backgrounds. Keep people guessing where the heck I am. I’m a remote worker. It definitely messes with some people. Both the backgrounds and the permanent WFH thing.
-
Hey people how do you handle the information overload?! I'm feel like my mind is full. Hardly remembering things and stuff I hear/read about! Please!2
-
I am freaking out as se hace lo ir schemas and in all of them table structure is different... Doesnt people know about tools like Liquibase ?...2
-
Question for data science people. Do you know some good multi purpose self tracking platform? Something like exist.io but more advanced? I want to setup custom tracking1
-
80% of people who comment online are small people. 100% of small people who read the previous sentence thought they belonged to the remaining 20%.
It's not who likes you, it's who hates you. If small people like me, I should be worried. If small people hate me, that means I'm not one of them, and I'm doing good.
The above is true for every online community at any moment in time.8 -
Although I'm 26, I feel old.
Whenever I meet or hangout with people similar age; I just feel like I don't belong there. Not a good experience.8 -
Ruby is like the plot of highlander 2 people may be ashamed being familiar with it but someone is somewhere
Most people however note society skipped right past it in the sequel
Additionally as I watch the same crap scroll by I wonder with deep sadness what happened to the world6
