Dev: I think we should send Dev2 for some training and certification
Manager: We do not train people or have them certified. When you train people and especially if you have them certified they always leave the company for better offers so we no longer do that.
Dev: So the plan is to have a the company operated by a bunch of untrained uncertified people?
Manager: 😡 You are being disrespectful again20 -

Yesterday i updated my LinkedIn title to Data scientist.
Today morning i got 3 phone calls for job offers.8 -
Prof offers a VR project to us:
Prof: Lets do something nice using VR
Us: Sounds interesting. Will we get VR glasses to test at home?
Prof: No.
Us: Can we use the VRs of the university?
Prof: There are no available.
Us: Will there be additional ones?
Prof: No.
WHY DO YOU OFFER A VR PROJECT BUT THERE IS AND WILL BE NO HARDWARE??? SORRY, BUT MY OWN GLASSES HAVE NO VR FUNCTION!!6 -
Hotel offers no breakfast, towels are not exchanged unless you request every day, staff does not speak English, cleanness is clearly very broad definition...
WiFi is excellent.
5/5 would recommend.4 -
Agreed with a guy on a price for a second hand laptop-tablet. Finally on my way (NS, go drown in an ocean of infected cum) but I'd be very late.
Guy offers to come to the station (saving me more than an hour of travel time)!
This one SHOULD be Linux compatible 😅11 -
The worst rejection in my case is being qualified for the jobs I get offers for, but not being able to work full time 'cuz college'13

Job offers that list "high speed internet and a laptop" as employement benefits realy piss me off. Do they think other companies force you to code on paper and send it trough mail?8

lol what? My company offers $5k for referring full time employees... and $10k for referring female technologists.
As a female software engineer, makes me deeply uncomfortable.14 -
Just surfin aroung in C# job offers and found this gem, a joboffer from a german bank:
"Sie verfügen über Erfahrung in der Entwicklung individueller .NET-Lösungen auf Basis von C "Hashtag"."
which translates to
"... and you have excperience with C "hashtag"..."
Lol'ed harder then I should have...2 -
it is fun when ppl younger more than 10 years just entered into coding and tech scene offers solutions to solve my problems
which is nothing wrong and i encourage that
but then they miss core concept of how stuff should work and are not able to see real fundamentally broken problems
and then assumes im stupid
and then i want to burn them to ashes2 -
Slowly working it up now, actually.
An annually updated, unbiased, multiple source application that engineers can use to check salary offers vs their skills, to make sure they don't get shortchanged. Intended to work for the entire planet (that we have data for).18 -
Did anybody of you automate job hunting?
Like Webscraping online job offers, extract adress, keywords and put it into a cv template, set up personalised html-email and website.
Extra perk, a neural network which composes the cover letter.

Me: Right, its Monday, time for a fresh start. Things have been unbearable, but i've nowhere else to go just yet. I gotta just dig deep, ignore everything bad and just get it done, It's all about positivity right? Lets just ignore the little things and keep moving.
*My morning so far, 2 hours in*
Remote dev: (timezone 5 hours earlier than me) Hey so whats the plan for this quarter?
Me: ... I posted a big detailed plan in the group chat on Friday night so you wouldn't be delayed ... but anyway, lets just move on. I need you to work on A, B and C. A is just copying what Android has already done, for B one of the backend guys working next to you is doing this, he'll be able to help you. C is all documented in the ticket.
Remote dev: cool thanks.
Local dev: So I was just chatting with remote dev ... yeah he told me he has no idea what he's suppose to do.
Me: ..... Ok i'll book a video call with him in the morning. Can't do it right now.
==========
Remote dev: Hey i'm helping the BE team do some testing. I found a bug in Android. Homepage says theres no trips. But Offers screen says there is.
Me: Ok so just to confirm, The "available" offers screen has offers to accept, but the white notification on the homepage saying "You have X offers to accept" is not showing up?
Remote dev: Correct!
*debugging for 5 mins*
Remote dev: actually no, the "accepted" offers tab has offers, but the homepage says there are no upcoming offers to work on.
Me: ..... ok, thats very different ... but sure, let me have a look.
Me: Right so the BE are ... again ... sending down expired offers. Looks like the accepted tab isn't catching it and the homepage is.
Remote dev: Right i'll open a ticket for Android.
Me: ... and BE team.
Remote dev: why?
Me: ... because they once again have timezone issues. This keeps causing issues in random places. BE need to fix this everywhere.
Remote dev: right, i'll chat to them and see if they can fix it.
==========
Product: So this ticket xxxxx is clear right?
Me: eh, kind of, so you want us to add feature X to user type A?
Product: correct.
Me: right but I don't see anywhere talking about the time it will take to build the screen for feature X
Product: What do you mean the screen?
Me: ... well, feature X is only accessible on screen Y ... we would have to change screen Y to support user type A ... you know ... so they can ... use the feature
Product: .... hhhhmmm .... i suppose you are right. Well we can't just add screen Y, we'll have to add W and Z, it won't make sense without them.
Me: ... ok sure, but our estimates put us over for this quarter. I don't think we can just add in 3 screens.
Product: No this is a must have.
Me: Ok so we'll have to drop something else.
Product: hhhmmm, don't think we can ... let me get back to you.
==========
Backend team invited me to a meeting at 6am my time on Friday.

... 2 hours into Monday ... there must be vodka around here somewhere -
Got 1 job offer and already watching a video about choosing between 2 job offers... Wtf is wrong with me :(1

Management and other senior leadership have been really shitty recently, I got showed up in a meeting in front of about 20 of my peers and people myself/them and treated like a fucking child.
So I took a week off, uploaded my CV and today, after about 30 calls with offers, I attended two interviews and got two amazing offers of employment!
More money, less responsibility, better career development, modern company and less stress!
I’m so happy and can’t wait to go into work on Monday morning and tell them all to FUCK OFF!3 -
Most of the people sending me work offers have something to do with wordpress.
Man iongiveafuck anymore. Some dude offers me $500 for something that would take me 5 hours to make again and I am gonna swallow my pride and code that shit in wordpress.
Money > your fucking disdain for frameworks/cms/lang/suckingdick/whatever.
Which also means thas that I have to get crzcking with coding in wordpress again since I don't remember much.8 -
What would you do?
2 job offers...
Job #1 a big sports betting company as a junior software developer with a salary of 22k plus a yearly bonus of 10%
Also uncapped holidays
Or
Job #2
A small IT company with 2 other developers with a salary of 19.5k working on multiple projects and being instantly promoted to mid level developer, also a signing bonus after 3 months of a high end surface laptop.27 -
when you don't update your LinkedIn profile and a recruiter offers a job in the company where you actually work...3

I read a lot about people complaining about their shitty jobs. Some of us actually have nice jobs, but could really need more coworkers.
Wouldn't it be nice if devRant had the possibility to post job offers? Of course, no recruiters allowed, just awesome job offers, so we can all work together on some nice projects.
PS: Could really need some help at work :-)5 -
After 60+ days of being jobless i had two offers coming my way. Starting my new job next monday! So excited!2

this is ridiculous...
I have to use a tool that only works on IE browser. (yes, I know, sucks. Regardless...)
1. open up the IE. Navigate to https://google.com
2. google is opened in Edge instead
3. Edge insists on setting Edge as default
4. google.com loads up and insists on installing and using Chrome as default.
... I just wanted to search for stuff and instead, I got 2 offers to change my browser....8 -
Attended an interview, interviewer started calling me sir (Which I took as sarcasm).
Giving so many interviews, I was use to basic oops question. This guy just offers me a job based on my resume.
Felt nice but fishy.3 -
"What are you waiting for?" Well, I'm still waiting for someone to add an if-statement for no name provided before sending me personal offers2

I hate setting up case statements cause it's hard to cover every case. What if a virus puts a gun to my programs head? What if my program is at a cache party and chrome offers it weed? What if my program isn't gay, but $20 is $20?2

You have 2 years to live. You have a spouse and kid. Google offers half your salary to your spouse for 10 years and survivor’s benefits for your kid until they’re 23 (correct if I’m wrong) if you die while being employed by them.
Would you spend those 2 years practicing algorithms and your CS knowledge to get into Google? Or spend the precious little time you have left with your family?8 -
I don't know if this is the same thing everywhere over the world, but, in France, where I live, there's something that infuriates me on so many levels.
Dear HRs,
When you're processing through a recruitement process, you'll publish a job offer. In 95% of these offers, I notice things that follows the same pattern : "We require a highly trained developer in [insert language 1], especially with the [insert a framework from language 2] framework". This often happens when you're talking about Java in first place, but then switching to Javascript.
Please, dear HRs,
GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER ! I don't know, ask to some of your developers to review your offer, to spot these beginner mistakes. This is an automatic turn-off for me when I notice this king of bullsh*t in job offers, and I understand that the person that wrote this offer has no fucking idea of the business his/her company is dealing with.
Later, these people are those who will interview you with generic IT questions, that they have no idea about what a correct answer might be, and they will only check if your answer matches what is written on their cheat sheet. If you're lucky enough, some people from the actual business will be with the interview crew, so you can actually expect some kind of understanding.
*angrily goes back to looking for a job*4 -
Really good when you cant connect your pc with a 100€ os to the internet and you click on "show more solutions" and it only offers you online support and, even dumber, "ask a friend". Thanks, great work everybody, really good. Why don't you just write "sorry our os is too shity, but we don't want to care about it anymore, go fuck yourself in the corner over there"5
-
Fuck you companies that have hidden requirements in. their. job. offers.
It's so annoying to spend my valuable time on an application for a job that I think myself a perfect fit for, just to find out that they are looking for applicants "with more experience in..." (fill in the gap)
Just fucking put it in the requirements already and save us both our time.3 -
That feeling when you get job offers because programming is a mere interest in LinkedIn. I don't even know any advanced languages yet!
Holy fuck I look forward to this career!5 -
Comment of the week! I'm so sad he didn't catch the reference, but if the guy offers to teach him I'm down to learn 😂
On another note I can't blame him, I probably would have run npm -i gamma 😅7 -
After being let go from my previous job (previous rant) roughly two and a bit weeks ago I already have multiple offers for new jobs.
There's lots of sterotyping for how difficult it is to get a new position in this field. I was worried, this is such a relief1 -
Because of GDPR I receive lot of mails: "we love to keep our relationship", "we really like to present you future offers", "please click here to give your accept", etc.

Seriously, y'all shitting on CORS but why? literally, why? it protects you. If you need an external api, could you please be fucking bothered to setup redirects, so it's /api and not fucking https://amazon23984723984723984.aws239847329847230948.spyware/...? duh
people who allow cors from "*" are the same people who always do everything with superuser rights. you're the reason why I always got offers23 -
I got a new job! 🎉
I'll be starting next month.
I had two offers. The first company tried to offer me less than expected, but I was able to negotiate. But after some more consideration, I accepted the second offer.
[I have some more stories from my job hunt that I'll post later.]3 -
You know a shitty recruiter when he/she offers you a job because 'I analyzed your github profile and noticed your extensive expertise in PHP', although all you did was cloning an extremly large PHP project and made one commit over thousands of lines of code which you simply generated through a fully automated php5 to php7 converter.
Disclaimer: never wrote a line of PHP before.2 -
End of working day - smoking hoohak with my team ☺
Who else has such an amazing company who offers u such things? 😎3 -
I've been noticing people making these 2-5 paragraph long posts on Linkedin talking about all their offers and who they end up picking. Usually pretty cringy and I stop reading by 1st paragraph. Is this actually normal and should interns be doing this?10

Hey guys, Been a while...
Quick status update
Moved out of my parent's house
Now a lead backend engineer at a crypto exchange.
Getting offers from startups without even applying, just referrals
Still underpaid by global standards but very comfortable locally.
1year+ of financial stability
Lots of motivation from the lovely people here when I started out, I'm grateful1 -
My mind was blown when I found out AWS offers FPGA instances (EC2 instances)
how fucking cool is that?5 -
The very first sentence in my profile on many freelancing and networking sites is "I am not looking for a full time job at the moment!" I still get fat to many job offers from recruiters, who apparently cannot read.1
-
Met an owner of a dev company with interesting openings and drank some beers. After a while he begins to rant about his employees. Yeah. Didn't took the job. At least he paid the drinks ;)4
-
I got invited to interview with a startup(series B) by a former manager. I told them I had RSUs vesting in six months and that unless they could give me a sign on for their amount I couldn’t leave. The recruiter says “Don’t worry, we can get creative with the sign on bonus”
I go through their whole interview process and get the offer.
Sign on is 15% of the amount of my vesting RSUs, and a base below what I make now.
Why waste my time not telling me the comp range from the start and why lead me on with a comment about a sign on? I told you up front what I made!1 -
Hey dear HR people and Headhunters - learn to write proper Joboffers - when someone is a JavaScript developer and even writes JavaScript for 10 years for a living doesnt mean he can or wants to write strict typed TypeScript out of the box using an library ecosystem and NOT a framework already written with TypeScript (React vs Angular)
Write TypeScript developers in the job offers when you search them: TypeScript !== JavaScript.6 -
When someone in your dorm offers to pay you to help them with their Python class because “you’re better than the TA” 🙌🏼

does anyone else feel that "developers are on high demand" and "if you're a good developer you should have no problem getting a job" is kind of a lie that the industry sells to you?. I mean I didn't expect to polish my linkedin profile and get 20 offers but damn. Yeah I see a lot of job offers on multiple platforms. Yeah I apply for them. Yeah I never hear back from most of them. (I have a bit more than 1 year of experience) I don't wanna work for FAANG, I'd just like an entry/middle job on an industry I like8

"The free plan allows 200 API calls per month, while the paid plan offers unlimited API calls."
wtf is this, 1990 and you're running a raspberry pi as your server? give me a fuckin break15 -
Answering several emails per day from annoying customers.
Estimating expenditures of possible future projects for offers.
Calls from the management. Calls in general.
People coming into my room in the office (where I sit with 2 other programmers) just to have a call, because it's quieter in this room than in the rest of the office.4 -
My LinkedIn status is set to "not interested for work offers" so recruiters won't bother me. So I thought..
Recruiters be like: well screw that, I'll use the connect button and push my stupid generic message into his face anyways.7 -
Question
What server monitoring do you use, both for statistics and security?
--------------------
tl;dr ends here
Ideally I would like to have one clean dashboard that shows me all the nodes I have, proxmox already offers a great range of stats - but it is a page per container etc. so not ideal, I thought of having datadoghq, but their per host pricing is huge, since I have more than 5 hosts to track.12 -
C++ template errors.
Probably enough said... But a couple years ago I was interviewing and each interview included, do know about templates. I always answered, "enough to determine what is wrong when there is a compiler error." I always got some form of a chuckle or "wow" and NEVER a follow up question about templates. I received job offers from each interview, they all apparently needed someone who could help get their template code compiling? -

Been keeping up with other candidates, and seems some have gotten their acceptance offers. I haven't. I'm losing hope. Sad. Very sad. 😞

You know when you decide to choose a language/framework/platform not because it's the best for the job, or the one with most developers, or the one with most job offers, but simply... because it makes you feel good, even just by looking at the code...!

Dear Recruiters on LinkedIn and Co. Would you find it in your hearth to not harass me anymore?
I don't care for your half-assed bullshit job offers and I don't want 5 of them per day, you are not professional.

I have a Mac at work right now, and if/when it putters out, I would be fine with another, but not if it's the touch bar variety. In that case, I'll ask for a surface or a latitude(the options the company offers to the MacBook) and just hijack Linux onto it. I won't even ask if I can, because I'm sure the answer will be no.7

I swear two thirds of job offers now are in insurance and banking. And if that doesn't spell "incoming crash" for you then idk. We're in for some fun times.1

I'm about to get my MSc and I've been getting a lot of interesting offers as a software engineer at small and big companies.
But I'm a fucking chemical engineer, and I don't know if I should be honoured or I should be mad. What the fuck is wrong with people?2 -
Jesus, I'm SO fed up with this mindless application of CRUD. This application would literally be less than half its current size if we weren't implementing crud for fucking broken device reports and repair offers, stuff that should have many states, a create action strictly bound to a user type and view/field wise edit phases bound to a state-usertype pair.

make dumbass solution duplicating code because you can't figure out how to do it correctly

I finally resign and finally I'll going after some life quality which I was looking for at this point of my life.5 -
Good recruiters do not ask who are the other companies or recruiters who contacted you.
Good recruiters understand that potential applicants have greater needs than purely monetary compensation in their offers.
Good recruiters do not threaten you with a hard deadline to decide whether or not you'll accept their offer.
Good recruiters do not ask for referrals if you turn them down.
I've yet to meet a good recruiter.1 -
Program asks on start if you want to download a newer version. Closes when you click no. Bad enough, right? Here is the fucking worst part: if you click yes it takes you to a website that informs you that the program was discontinued and offers alternatives. So no downloads. So i can't fucking use this program anymore. That I paid a shitload of money for. Great.5

2 job offers on table.
One, where I'd to work on multiple technologies, comfortable timing i.e 6 - 7 hours a day. Enough time to do personal projects.
Other, I'd to work on single technology stack, but more complex and large projects. Good for architectural and design pattern knowledge. Better pay, but stressing work hours like 8-10 hours daily. Might be on weekends as well.

Starting a new project, I suggested using git instead of TFS(last project was TFS) to my boss. He said “It (the project) is VS based, so to keep things easier...”.
I don’t think basing your project around an IDE is a smart thing to do. I don’t even like TFS its caused quite a few problems for us and is much less smoother than git. Furthermore VS offers really good git integration!4 -
Recruiter bot just emailed me with some offers, let's take a look...
"Hand-on Experience with SQL and NO-SQL Databases preferably Redux"
Whew! I was worried for a second, thank god they are using a Redux database and not one of those really crappy React databases! I'll really consider applying now.

Something I just got reminded of when I read
https://devrant.com/rants/6050542
Aside from job postings usually being trash,
I love when they write 'You have heard of X'
or 'You know of X' instead of 'You have worked
with X' [ on this level | for this long ]
While you may think this is just phrasing, I have
had interviews that basically treated it like that
as well,.. politely declined in those cases.1 -

Average software isn't even average.
I can not count the number of times I am faced with a consumer facing software such as fastfood terminals, atms, phones or even OS's that simply are broken. I am so sick of looking around like there is something wrong with me, when its the fucking code that simply offers me broken options. My favorite is the McDonalds ordering platform that simply offers one option once you select your first item: + THATS it a fucking + sign is my only option. What if I only want one fucking thing!!!
No I have to stumble around, looking ignorant until I finally just press the add more + sign. WHALLA
I can then select complete order - stupid programmers show me we all should write our own code that way we live or die by its quality.
Someone once told me, be glad software is so poorly written on average, otherwise we would all be a slave to big brother by now.7 -
Interviewing with three companies. First one extended an offer. I'm expecting an offer from at least one, possibly both, of the others (On-site with Second was yesterday and expecting an offer tomorrow or Mon, phone tech interview (they also had a tech screen) with Three was today and I /rocked/ it, expecting an onsite invite for next week).
The problem with being a badass is that the choice paralysis is SO OVERWHELMING. All three have features that I like and how do I choose.
I think I'm being overly influenced by the weekly massage, onsite barista, free nice breakfast/lunch, and ideal location of Second (the domain is finance, they have $$$). Oh and fucking 25 vacation days and amazing 401k matching. I mean how would I say no to an offer? But what if the work is actually beyond me? But they have seriously cranked their benefits package up to 11.
First is an in house product with external clients. The domain I don't find super interesting, but it has amazing Glassdoor reviews, seems like a decent environment, and really seems like a place to progress and grow as a professional. It is also the lowest salary of the three (both others are through Hired, so I know what they are offering).
Third is a consultancy where I'd really get to keep my skills relevant. Seems mad fast paced, which is a bit intimidating, and I don't know how well I'd handle the context switching of being on multiple projects at a time.
I mean, all of this is counting my chickens before they hatch. But I have a really good feeling about my chsnces with Second, though I suppose I still have a chance to botch my onsite with Third.
Ahhhh. Dev Rant, how did you go about choosing between offers that can't be evaluated on a single axis?1 -

Really successful open source projects earn their creators those things no matter the license — just look at porsager/postgres.
So, why limit the usage rights?14 -
Ive been looking for a rant that mentionned being payed to review code for something like 50pounds an hour.
Can any one help me to either find the person/rant/company that offers this service?5 -
With what subject you shouldn't send job offers to software developers :
"A unique and exciting opportunity for a genuine GEEK!!"1 -
If you got job offers from 2 companies, one in Poland, another in Germany, and they want you to relocate. All things being equal, which one would you select based on country?15

What's your opinion on designed emails?
Do you have a themed template when writing to s.o. or do you use plaintext?
Or when an interesting newsletter offers both HTML and plaintext - which do you prefer? -
Creating a LinkedIn profile was a good decision. They send you hilarious job offers almost daily, even though I'm not even searching. Always a good laugh 😂

I’m searching for a engineering management job… I was told by two recruiters from two separate companies that they were going to give me offers and that I was an amazing hire… They then ghosted me for a week and then didn’t give me an offer.

When you almost cry before you sleep coz you hate your job and feel when you wake up your gonna lose another day of your life but your not getting any good offers...

Our ISP, that also offers us Television is smart, very smart... “One option is to provide an anonymous mailbox (eg. Gmail, Hotmail”
Wtf... Gmail != anonymous.
I was about to report a vulnerability I found in their system, with that I could access the whole digibox, recover recordings, copy the on demand things, and watch films.2 -
Looking to sharpen and pursue a SysAdmin/DevOps career, looking at online job offers to get the big picture of required skills and I say FUCK. It would take me a lifetime.
Azure, AWS, Google cloud platform.
CD tools: Ansible, Chef or Puppet
Scripting ninja with Python/Node and Shell/Power shell.
Linux & Windows administration
Mongo, MySQL and their relatives.
Networking, troubleshooting failure in disturbed systems
Familiarity with different stacks. Fuck. (Apache, nginx, etc..)
Monitoring infrastructure ( nagios, datadog .. )
CI tools: jenkins, maven, etc..
DB versioning: liquibase, flyway etc.
FUCK FUCK FUCK.
Are they looking for Voltron? FUCK YOU FROM THE DEEPEST LEVEL OF MY DEEP FUCK.1 -
I'm old fashioned when it comes to coffee. If someone offers me a hot cup of java, I say no thanks.
I'd much prefer a cup of C++.3 -
Government sending me advertisements of some fucking foundation offering payment terminal offers.

I love C and C++ but their dependency management stuck, there’s a package manager for them which offers a nice experience comparable to Go or Rust?4

Looking for a new job and it's like that toy story meme.
Shitholes. Shitholes everywhere.
On top of that most have plans to restart offices next year and some want me to relocate and change cities. But now I don't want to go to office for more than two days a week.
Sigh'1 -
Followup to my job-hunt rant from December
https://devrant.com/rants/6137401/...
In the time since then, I got 5 offers from various companies.
I accepted the highest paying one.
Today is my first day as a (mostly linux) system engineer for a renowned e-learning company.1 -
Hey guys!
my university offers an exchange with a university in Bielefeld!

Friend asked me this:
"So if PHP is that bad, why there are still so many job offers for PHP devs?"10 -
When you are at a crossroads, what helped you to decide?
I have two great job offers, and though my gut feeling is telling me to go one way due to tech stack and first communications, the other opportunity is (slightly) better paid and the company is much larger and nationwide active.3 -
I had two job offers, one paid twice as much. I took the lower paying one because it was exciting work where I expected to learn a lot. I was right on both counts.
Best or worst? Definitely the most significant. I'll let you judge which.3 -
The Amazon MWS API is so utterly shite! Offers error messages sometimes then others tells you to upload your file to their file checker. Their file checker doesn’t accept XML so why say that?
Who on earth develops and documents their shit APIs?
Fuck you Amazon -
I actively job hunted for close to a year without success. Now I have two offers in addition to my existing position, and that, without even having to apply for either. Knowing I can't combine all three, I've turned one down cuz it offers the least compensation for the most work but the guy is insisting he "wants my skin in the game". I know he's not stupid and obviously knows nobody else would be sympathetic to such peanuts
But it's not as though my life took a dramatic turnaround after months of turmoil. All three opportunities are still within the same meagre region, albeit with minor improvements. I do NOT feel grateful because the circumstance of one of the new offers is such that I'm still tied to my old buddies apron strings. Not only did I stagnate but I've got them paying my salary now. They rub it in by telling me I might get a car in two years time if I join them now, and how many properties they've acquired in our time apart
It sucks how little headway I've made in their absence, and how much harder I have to work to have any hope of earning close to their monthly wages1 -
Dan Abramov
He more or less invented React? Or at least he's made a lot of improvements to its state management functionality. He offers to have lunch with random people on Twitter. He probably knows a lot and reads a lot. He seems like a cool down-to-earth dude.4 -
Spotify for beginners: Do not jump back to the previous song, do not skip more than six songs per hour, switch to private at every start, do not take a look at the songs in your current playlist, get ready being spammed with premium "offers" (unlock user experience for cash) and enjoy the shitty user experience. But hey, atleast the user interface is beautiful.
Spotify is like "Insta-Babes". "Beautiful" but trash.5 -
Do average users rather tend to pay at the paywall of ransomware (like wannaCry) if the user interface offers a great experience?1

So, I took the plunge into a new dostro base, and now I have Manjaro installed on both of my daily drivers. One question I have... What are the advantages/disadvantages of different term shells? It offers bash, zsh, and fish. I'm used to bash, but I once chose zsh by accident and it looked interesting.
Also, general new Linux distro advice? No apt ; _ ; it's hard to install stuff now xD2 -

I used to be hungry of learning, studying in university, watching premium video lessons online, being curious and deepening all the least known argument of a technology and getting started with a lot of personal projects.

If you got job offers from Uber and IBM. Which one you would choose?
This would be my first big name company. Need advice. 🤷🏻♂️18 -
And here we are again... so many paths to choose from, so much uncertainty. And, as usual, the most interesting companies are the slowest to respond.
Constantly wondering what's the right thing to do, and neglecting my current job while I'm at it...2 -
Posted like two weeks ago that my company/manager wouldn't give me a (substantial) raise even though I'm doing exceptionally.
Got two job offers since then. One is 70% more pay and gives more benefits than my current position... The other one is similar but I'd have to move country.4 -
Any opinions/thoughts on Scaleway as a VPS provider? I'm thinking of trying their free offer for 500€ free credit until the end of the month.
Any warnings or caveats?
(Also, do they run offers like this often?)4 -
The internet has interesting quirks.
If someone offers me something for "FREE", I immediately close the tab. On the other hand if it's for "free", I might consider it.
I don't know why marketers think "FREE" works on customers.4 -
Hey, I'm new here, this is my first post and I want to start asking:
I'm not very good at Java and I'd like to learn Python but I don't have much time to improve Java and learn Python.
What should I focus on? (having in mind job offers and future)
Is it worthy to learn both?6 -
What would you check or look out for before choosing between multiple offers for a new job in software development?
I have multiple offers from different companies for a dual bachelor's degree.2 -
If I eventually study programming and could solve any task, will I immediately get job offers from websites?13

In college, first year, made a website using just HTML and CSS, and now I'm receiving offers from seniors to upscale their portfolio websites, which looks like an early 2000's blog website made by a 6 year old with colour blindness. I may or may not be getting threats #sufferingFromSuccess2

I've got a question for y'all.
What with Facebook's recent pig-like nature and disregard of users, I have been thinking there is a gap in the market for a better, safer social site that offers all the benefits of Facebook without the downsides.
What are your thoughts?4 -
Maybe I'll get some decent advice from a rampant over simplification...
2 job offers, assume compensation is close enough to not matter much.
Pride & Ambition/Opportunties
vs
Work-life balance & Time
How would you compare them, and where is the tipping point?
I'm feeling burnt out at the moment, which is screaming to pick the second, but... I can't let go of the first.11 -
Is the title "Web & Mobile Developer" on my profile misleading?
And the part in my summary which says I'm studying and currently not working ambiguous?

What do you guys think? Still finish?? Or use my current experience to move forward??3 -

So, I've just received two almost identical offers from two companies. One is a profitable large firm, and the other is a start up that's just been acquired and is yet to become profitable. Both firms or similar tech stacks and will train me on my missing skills.
The differences are that the smaller form has "promised" me a lead position in a few months. I know from experience that future promises like this don't anyways pan out.
At the end of the day, I need the skills and I want to make sure it keeps my CV interesting for the future.
I have to decide in a couple of hours. I need advice.4 -

BSNL (Indian state run telco) offers 4GB data per day for 90 days at just INR 444 (around 7 USD). Sounds awesome right? But the catch is their network. It is so pathetic that you don't even get signal of you're inside a building. Even if you have full signal, data speed hardly reaches 0.5 Mbps.2

Have you ever declined an already signed offer to take another one? If so, what's the way that you've handled it?
I just don't want to say to them that is for personal reasons because I'm pretty sure they would know it's about money .

I’m currently into be process of doing interviews and to my worst luck, it seems like all of my offers may be collapsing tightly together within a week.
Some places seem to be more eager than others saying they will get back to me within a week, but I’ve also had an experience where a company seemed like they were really sure on getting me on board but it seems they’ve ghosted me when it came to providing an offer to sign.
For example, this Tuesday I should be hearing from company B who is willing to counter any other offer should another company wants me (I also told them that within a week I should know my answer for them) - which I assume is when I will be signing and making it official, but I am still waiting on company A whom I really want to work for (they still haven’t given an offer) and then there’s company C, which seems prospective and higher paying who will interview me but only after after company B’s deadline.
If I officially get signed on to B, should I still proceed with the interview with C regardless?
Some companies have told me that if someone is paying me (ex.) 75k that they’re willing to counter it - should I divulge details which companies is doing this?1 -
So I'm receiving messages from recruiters weekly (no flex intended), half of which are not even close to what my profile describes. And I got really sick of it so sometimes it takes at least a week for me to respond if I decide you're actually worth a reply (looking at you, automated half-assed messages that didn't even notice I know nothing about Javascript).
The thing is that some of the more useful messages are actually quite interesting and match my ambitions and desires quite well. But I like my current job and love the project I'm working on... Am I the only one who wants to stay "loyal" to their employer and their project, at least for as long as the contract is valid?? I really want to be there when delivering the final product and test it myself but it sometimes means declining very interesting job offers.
How do people decide its the right moment you have to leave for a new job if you're satisfied with what you have currently? I'm graciously rejecting interesting offers in the hope that they respect my "loyalty" towards my current project and stay reachable to me when I need them later on (I've already had some that would hit me up after a year asking me how it went and if everything was still okay). Is this something that happens often or am I just lucky with those specific recruiters??
Like yes, I can surely use the money I'd receive from a better job. But I am still learning a lot on my current job and I am positive this kind of job offers will keep coming over the years (and hopefully even more so because I keep getting more experienced). I'm also not the top candidate for some of these offers if I may say so myself, so is it important to take what you can get or is it better to stick to what you're comfortable with? -
The feeling when you keep getting these job offers at creative agencies and others, but can't accept because you're in college

Hello everyone,
I wanted to share with you a useful resource. There are many frameworks that help to create responsive and flexible web apps.
According to me, Bootstrap 5 is the best framework as it offers many features such as experimental support for CSS Grid and offcanvas in the navbar. Also, a new placeholders component, horizontal collapse support, and many more.
As we all know, it is an open-source framework that offers responsive structure and styles for building new projects and websites.
Here, in Today's rant, I am sharing some useful Bootstrap Practice projects that will help you to learn and sharpen your skills as a developer.

You can check the above blog for more detailed info.
Thanks5 -
What's the best way to interview when you can't leave work? Like yeah I could swing one or two maybe by calling in sick... I can't work from home... I know other people get offers while working still, what did you do? If you have been through this I would appreciate any advice!1

I'm getting contacted by remotely.works with job offers, I like the idea of doubling my current salary, but it really worries me the job stability and I believe switching jobs to work remote for a US-based company leaves me with responsibilities an employer normally take cares for me.
Should I risk it and give it a try?3 -
What is key for you? Money or growth opportunity?
Company A - offers X amount, and it's work environment is such that challenges you to learn and grow.
Company B - can offer you 20% more, but doesn't a lot of interesting things, your average turn around time for tasks is a day, two at best.
Which would you choose?5 -
I have two potential offers. A is too good (pay, hours, stability, perks). B is decent (good pay but not so stable, no idea on perks but the work seems cool). Despite better work I'm not inclined to go for B. It is from my previous interview experience rant. People seem shitty, or at least as bad as the ones I'm leaving.
I don't wanna accept A either because they are expecting a longer stay and right now I'm in a state where I don't want to commit more than 6-7 months to anything. 😞
But I don't have any other offers and there aren't any short term projects coming up in my search.
Ugh.11 -
