The best time to buy bitcoin was when it was released
The second best time was a few years ago when it was only like $200/btc
The third best time was probably last year before they went up 650% in value
The worst time is apparently whenever I buy in15 -
1) I accepted this job for way way less money than market value.
2) Approached boss about having performance review because I had been here over 12 months and no one brought it up to me.
3) Had performance review where they offered a big raise (12% but still way under market value)
4) I countered asking for market value and showed aggregate research (30% increase)
5) A week later we meet again and they offer 23%.
6) That's where we ended at, pretty surprised they offered that much, but glad. I wasn't looking forward to looking at other jobs to catch up to market value.
7) Feeling pretty good considering I've never negotiated anything before.6 -

Did you read about the new Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act laws of the European Union, that will go in effect in 2022? Pretty neat stuff, more transparency, user rights and a tool against internet monopolies.
"Very big online plattforms" must submit reports on freedom of speech, abuse of human rights, manipulation of public opinion.
EU assigned scientists will gain access to trade secrets like google search or Amazon recommendation algorithm to analyze potential threats.
The EU can fine serial offenders 10 % of their yearly income. And break up companies that stiffle competition.
Internet companies like Facebook will not be permitted to share user data between their products like Instagram and WhatsApp.
There will be a unified ruleset on online advertisement. Each add must have the option to find out why this add is shown to the user.
Unlike the GDRP data protection rule the two acts will be valid at the Union level. So that there won't be any exceptions from single member states.
Let's hope this leads to a better Internet and not things like cookie pop ups 😄

How Google loost its data Monopoly-
Present:
Step 1- US bans Huawei
Step 2- Google Bans Huawei
Step 3- China Gov helps Huawei get back on its feet
Future:
Step 4- Huawei makes their own OS to rival Google, the OS can run Android apps as well as IoS apps and has its own language/framework for developing new apps
Step 5- China bans Google from their market
Step 6- Chinese mobile manufacturers adopt the new OS
Step 7- China's population starts using the new OS i.e. country with the world's largest population starts using the new OS
Step 8- Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus who already own approx 40% of India's smartphone market start distributing the new OS based phones in India. Factors like cheaper devices take this market share to 50%+
Step 9- Cry, cause the new OS is now being used by approximately 30% of the world's population.
Yeah, bring your hate in the comments but come back and talk to me in August 2022...12 -

There's just way too many choices when it comes to buying a new pc. And then there is Intel. Granted they produce great chips. But the whole cpu market is under their control. They are releasing new chipsets and sockets for breakfast.
We need stronger competitors4 -
So, I decided to post this based on @Morningstar's conundrum.
I'm dissatisfied with the laptop market.
Why THE FUCK should I have to buy a gaming laptop with a GTX 1070 or 1080 to get a decent amount of RAM and a fucking great processor?
I don't game. I program. I don't even own a fucking Steam library, for clarification. Never have I ever bought a game on Steam. Disproving the notion that I might have a games library out of the way, I run Linux. Antergos (Arch-based) is my daily driver.
So, in 2017 I went on a laptop hunt. I wanted something with decent specs. Ultimately ended up going with the system76 Galago Pro (which I love the form factor of, it's nice as hell and people recognize the brand for some fucking reason). Matter of fact, one of my profs wanted to know how I accessed our LMS (Blackboard) and I showed him Chromium....his mind was blown: "Ir's not just text!"
That aside, why the fuck are Dell and system76 the only ones with decent portables geared towards developers? I hate the prospect of having to buy some clunky-ass Republic of Gamers piece of shit just to have some sort of decent development machine...
This is a notice to OEMs: yall need to quit making shit hardware and gaming hardware with no mid-range compromise. Shit hardware is defined as the "It runs Excel and that's all the consumer needs" and gaming hardware is "Let's put fucking everything in there - including a decent processor, RAM, and a GTX/Radeon card."
Mid-range that is true - good hardware that handles video editing and other CPU/RAM-intensive tasks and compiling and whatnot but NOT graphics-intensive shit like gaming - is hard to come by. Dell offers my definition of "mid-range" through Sputnik's Ubuntu-powered XPS models and what have you, and system76 has a couple of models that I more or less wish I had money for but don't.
TBH I don't give two fucks about the desktop market. That's a non-issue because I can apply the logic that if you want something done right, do it yourself: I can build a desktop. But not a laptop - at least not in a feasible way.23 -
It's sad that there's always a market, especially for what should be absolutely top priority to be kept private.
btw: sorry to OCDs, it is indeed not centered, my mail client zoomed in a little so that happened itself7 -
I used to hate marketing.
But now, I realised how powerful of a tool it is.
Indians are dumb and wide majority are fucking illiterate out of choice.
Dumb morons. Add as much glamour as possible, and you will be able to sell these fuckers anything.
99% of the elders in my family are illiterate. Many of my cousins post fake success photos and market themselves in family group.
All the boomers think that the kids are doing well. No critical thinking. In reality, those cousins are struggling like crazy.
The boomers, including my retarded father, think that I am a useless piece of shit. According to them, I am a waste of oxygen.
Trust me, market well and you can make billions in Indian market.

Man, I'm sure there are a million of these posts right now but...
The hiring market and hiring culture nowadays is so damn frustrating. I have a decade of experience in multiple senior/lead/principal roles at both big name companies and high-growth startups, along with a very well-written resume.
Even with this, I can barely get an interview these days. I'll apply to a role that lists qualifications for which I'm an exact fit, and either get a quick auto-denial or just never hear back at all. It doesn't matter if I custom-craft my resume and cover letter to match the job description or just send my standard resume and cover letter. We all love those pandering and patronizing "We know that this isn't the news you wanted to hear, but keep trying! Maybe you'll be good enough for us someday!" auto-denial email.
Sometimes I'll receive a denial, look back at the job posting, that they needed somebody with NLP experience or something, and say to myself "Fair enough, that makes sense." Other times, I'll look at the posting and say "Oh come on, I check every single box." It makes you wonder "What the fuck are you actually truly looking for?"
Sometimes I'll look at the company's current employees and see that almost every single one is ex-FAANG, indicating that the company will almost only hire other ex-FAANG employees (despite there being thousands of other well-qualified candidates out there who are just as talented and skilled as those ex-FAANG candidates.)
Other companies seem to be "brand shopping" for ex-FAANG employees after all the recent FAANG layoffs, hoping to land a bargain on an ex-Google engineer so they can brag that their product was built by the same people who built Google.
Then there's the question of even making it past the ATS and in front of an actual human's eyes. The hiring culture seems to be an ATS SEO game nowadays. God forbid that you didn't include the super secret magic keyword in your resume, else you'll automatically be filtered out and denied.
It's just incredibly frustrating and makes you wonder what kind of candidate you need to be to even get a first round interview nowadays. Do we all need to have a glowing personal recommendation from the ghost of Steve Jobs in order for a 50-person startup to even open our resumes?6 -

Currently working as student part timer on a company that I really like.
When I'll finish my bachelor's degree, I will have been there for about 2-3 Years, additional to my 5 years working prior to that as a developer.
Today I learned, that our company doesn't usually pay the market price for devs (not a huge company, 150 employees, so it's understandable).
So now I don't know what to shoot for when discussing a raise after my degree. Should I still aim for market price? Should I argue with that and hope for the best?
I'm really unsure about that stuff...4 -
I shall single handedly increase the market price of freelance labor by going full on suicide squad.4

Their intent is great but if they are over saturating the market with mediocre developers then that is a bad thing.
The reason i say that is because they are often cheaper and more eager than skilled individuals that want the job done properly.5 -

My friend and I (both undergraduate) built a software to track emails for a local company (by the recommendation of my mom :D) now that is finished, it will cost $6 USD per 10,000 emails aprox. There is only one company that sells this service as a B2B, and the cost is near to $1,000 per 5,000 emails 😐. Things are always like that in the IT market?6

I wanted to create a microcontroller website. It would feature simple circuits and microcontroller code to build things. The intent was to show absolute beginner concepts to people. Since I am older than the whipper snappers out there I thought I would have concept of some old man running the website.
I found cartoon artwork featuring an old man and I also got the domain oldmanmicro.com. I then created a bunch of pages featuring some really basic circuits. I setup an affiliate program with amazon to provide kits to people and embedded those into the website. This site was going to take a lot of creativity. I struggled with what to put on the site. This was going to take time. At this point I felt pretty good with my progress. It looked nice, the links were good, etc.
Then I did web search for oldmanmicro. I found my website in top hits. I also found something else... The 3rd or fourth hit down was some fucking old dude with a micro penis website. WTF! The worst possible combination of letters in my domain name produce this terrible experience. I was already struggling with content ideas, and this just demoralized my efforts. Thus ended the tale of the oldmanmicro.com. Perhaps the micro penis guy bought it, I don't know. I am afraid to look.
This was my very ignorant adventure with not researching a domain name thoroughly.6 -

Doing browser detection the wrong way, probably dictated by Google marketing policy: any Chromium browser is supported by Google Docs - unless the user agent string contains the "Vivaldi" keyword.
"Issues" like this made the Vivaldi team remove their brand from their default user agent string long ago, effectively hiding the browser's market share in stats, as it will be counted as Google Chrome adding to Chrome's market share.10 -

does anyone else feel that "developers are on high demand" and "if you're a good developer you should have no problem getting a job" is kind of a lie that the industry sells to you?. How to spot the difference between a tech enthusiast and an actual Programmer/Engineer in 2019?
Tech Enthusiast: I'm really excited about the New X, it's going to be the fastest machine in the market. It's got gimmick feature A, gimmick feature B, actual feature A ......
Programmer/Engineer: So I bought this 8-year-old Thinkpad from eBay yesterday, wifi isn't working but I could just buy an off-market wifi card and fix it. Might also replace the old HDD with a new SSD. Would probably start using it as my daily driver once it's fixed.4 -

Worse dev experience: Working for a company that had a monopoly in the market. They have Dinosaurs that didn't want to upgrade the user experience at all because of the company's hold on the market and their lack of forward thinking. It's a privately held company that is hard to get terminated. It was frustrating because they could do more but didn't so I'm looking to compete once my non-compete is up.
Best dev experience : Quitting the aforementioned job and getting another one. 😎6 -

I am so bored and wanted to see some cool moving charts. So I started work on a little market economy simulation with different sources, drains and recipes for a variety of resources. Traders buy stuff, produce stuff and sell stuff at prices. They look at the market, how it has evolved, offers and requests to determine the prices for which they want to buy and for which they want to sell their stuff.
Currently just basic stuff and testing manually since I haven't completed the whole market simulation tick method. And I want to verify if the Traders work as I expect. -

So I was browsing glassdoor the other day to find out opinions about particular company and out of curiosity I also have check my first company I worked for and OH BOI, old memories that were buried and forgotten long time ago, came back after reading just a few feedbacks.
IT WAS DREADFUL PLACE.
To give a context that company has ~80 written negative feedbacks with 12 years on the market and never exceeding 50-60 employees, while other companies I worked for with ~5k employees, more then 20 years on the market have roughly ~100 written negative feedbacks each. -

So we all know what the current market situation is right now. Like all, my company also used the same market excuse to give 0 hikes to 80% of staff in last appraisal cycle which happened shortly after layoffs. And to top that, they tried to soothe us by saying at least you are not laid off. So obviously, no one protested.
Now when the next appraisal cycle approached, everyone was expecting something and management also knew that they have to give something or else people are not gonna stay much longer. 2-3 months before the cycle, they started telling that no one would get 0 hike this time, it will be better than last time.
When the numbers came, it was less than 5%. I mean you can expect these numbers from a huge service based MNC but not from a budding product based startup. And, here's the best part, the manager didn't even bother to setup calls to tell the numbers himself, we got to know via a fucking email.
I am done, I am gonna jump ship the first chance I get.3 -

Net neutrality is tyranny disguised as freedom.
Anti-net neutrality is freedom that is wrongly perceived as greed and tyranny.
Who pushes the net neutrality agenda? The same companies who spy on you, emasculate and degenrate society, pro-big government.
Yes ISP's are monopolistic and greedy. But it can change and it will change once the market is truly free from government regulations who nurtured the monopolies in the first place. Just be patient.
Governments can't rule society forever. Freedom is stronger. Civilization moves forward to Minarchism, then to Anarchism.

Question for the hiring managers out there: When reviewing applications for an open role, what specifically stands out to you about an applicant? (Assuming that the ATS gods don't just automatically filter the application out.)
Is it their achievements at previous companies? (Ex. Boosted ARR by 200% or decreased monthly churn by 30%)
Is it their career trajectory?
Is it their resume writing abilities?
Is it their education/certification credentials?
Is there some degree of "brand shopping" involved? For example, does seeing an average resume from a former Google employee with 2 YOE get you more excited than a well-written resume from a candidate with 7 YOE who worked at a lesser-known company?
I suppose much of this depends on the role and its needs.
Just given the market right now, I'm curious how hiring managers are making selections from their undoubtedly vast pool of candidates. I've heard that almost any job positing now is getting 500+ applicants within the hour, but with the caveat that 490 of those 500 applicants are completely unqualified (Like a Shift Manager at Chipotle who worked an IT help desk summer internship applying for a Senior Software Engineer role.)
Ultimately, what aspects of an applicant combined with their background and resume makes you say "Wow, this might be the one" while reviewing applications for a role?3 -

Is anyone here up for a long convoluted explanation of how exactly I predicted the last major btc peak/trough within just a couple hundred dollars?
There's actually a pretty precise reason it did what it did. Basically when china started tightening the screws, userbase fell along with price.
And when the price of an asset falls *with* userbase or ownership numbers, there is a delay in reevaluation, and therefore "current" market value doesn't accurately reflect true value.
I can show the math but again its convoluted. Has to do with userbase versus market cap.
Not a financial advisor fyi and I could be wrong.3 -

I'm not looking a job move at the moment but always keep an eye on the market. Sometimes you get companies looking for specific experience within a certain stack. How can any dev learn them all or get experience in all and keep up.
Surely their recruitment requirements have to be lenient in some respects as they won't always fine somebody who's willing to move and has the exact experience they need.1 -

We get our degree from a high-end higher education institution and with it we have proven that we studied Computer Science and a number of important programming languages in-depth.
Now why is it that when we get a job as a Software Developer, that people only seem to value you if you get industry certificates in those programming languages?
I understand a degree forms the basis with which to tackle modern-day software problems, but for your entire education to be practically invisible to stakeholders? That's what seems strange to me. We are valued by the number of certificates we have? Something doesn't add up. The only reason for this I can see is that the Business department hasn't had the thorough STEM education we had and thus thinks we are still novices who need to get 'trained'.2 -

Biostimulants Market Expected to Reach US$ 9.6 Billion by 2033 with a 10.8% CAGR
The biostimulants market is predicted to be worth US$ 3.4 billion in 2023, and rise to US$ 9.6 billion by 2033. Demand is expected to increase at a CAGR of 10.8% over the projected period.
Due to their numerous potential applications and promising futures, biostimulants are employed in horticulture and agriculture. Growing demand for eco-friendly agricultural solutions in developing nations like China and India opens up a new market opportunity for biostimulants producers.
Since food security and public health are closely related, all parties participating in the agri-food sector have sought to enhance sustainable food production. The largest phytopharmaceutical companies in Asia Pacific and Europe have intensified their production and research activities for natural products.
Lack of restrictions related to the product's commercialization may impede the market's development and expansion during the projection period. Growth is constrained by a lack of confidence in new products, a shortage of information about high-quality products, and a lack of clear regulatory.
In the majority of markets, the data requirements for the product are often obtained from those produced from synthetic substances. Similarly, there are still no well-established endpoints for risk evaluations despite the fact that these products have been used in commerce for years.
Key Takeaways
• By 2033, the US dominates the biostimulants market, with a CAGR of 9.6%.
• The market for biostimulants increased at a 10.1% CAGR between 2017 and 2022, citing FMI's study.
• The expansion in China is anticipated to expand at an adequate CAGR of 13.3% by 2033. China’s market is likely to generate a share of US$ 1.1 billion by 2033.
• Japan's market share for biostimulants is 10.8% by 2033, with the value of US$ 490 million.
• Between 2023 and 2033, the biostimulants market is likely to increase in South Korea at 11.6% CAGR, respectively.
• The expansion in the UK is anticipated to expand at an adequate CAGR of 9.9% by 2033. The UK's market is expected to generate a share of US$ 476.2 million by 2033.
• Based on active ingredients, the acid-based segment is expected to dominate the market with a CAGR of 10.6% by 2033.
• The adoption trends of biostimulants are predicted to change due to the rising demand for organic farming. As a result, the market is anticipated to increase positively by 1.09x between 2022 and 2023.
Key Strategies in the Industry
The main factor of the market's fragmentation is the growth of local players and regional marketplaces in various regions of the world. The two regions with the biggest market activity are North America and Europe.
UPL Limited, Biostadt India Limited, Isagro SPA, Valagro SpA, and Tradecorp International are a few of the leading businesses in the biostimulants market. For the purpose of expanding their businesses, these significant firms invest in new products, product improvement, expansions, and acquisitions.
Recent Developments
• A new line of biostimulant solutions based on GoActiv Technology was launched by UPL Australia in June 2021. These products are intended to target particular crop physiological "pain points" or abiotic stresses in fruit and vegetable, vine, and tree crops.
• Isagro Group acquired Phoenix Del in 2020 in order to increase the variety of copper-based fungicides and biostimulants it offers. The goal of this acquisition was to advance technology and transform the products in its "BioSolutions" section.
