At that time we worked with html for around 2 weeks

i had to do a project with someone who isnt that good at programming. but for her to learn programming, i wanted to let her do part of the code even though i could have done it myself. so she wrote some code after 2 days without me intervening. then i checked out the code and it was total crap. it was ugly asf, it could have been optimized a lot more and a lot of variables were unnecessary and to think that the code was just around 30 lines in 2 days! when its not that optimized, they deduct points from the final grade and having useless variables and functions can also be a negative thing to the professors' eyes.

in the end, i rewrote the code myself because i wanted it to be better. my grade also depends on that code so i shouldnt be ugly asf.

i recognize my mistakes too and sometimes my code isnt as optimized as it can possibly be but imagine her code is waaaay fucked up.

The book we used didn’t format the python properly on the page so you can’t really tell if there’s an indent if you dont know python well (they didn’t) which is okay.

But what isn’t okay is asking me for help and SENDING ME A FUCKING VIDEO OF THE COde LIKE FUCKING WHAT THE HELL MAN THAT SHIT ISNT EVEN READABLE AND YOUR HAND IS SHAKING LIKE YOURE HAVING A STROKE AT LEAST SEND ME THE CODE OR WORST CASE A PICTURE.

The wordpress site I told my friend her friends I would take a look at made me feel a bit like a real hacker.

Every month I travel by bandbus to neighbouring countries for a show.
This usually takes 7+ hours.

So i have my laptop with me and if my brother is along as well, we game in the bus.

Using a cable for internet connection isnt handy, since we sit on opposite sides of the bus. So i looked up if I can use a hosted wifi network for this.

We both checked out our drivers and both said no hosted network support.
And some posts on the internet said that customer support told them that the chip can't do it

But thats weird. My laptop is high end. So I searched a little only to find out that I can do a hosted wifi network if I DOWNGRADE my drivers.....

Why does noone implement autoupdater, especialy on linux side? Is there a reason i dont get? Sure, most system stuff is better in apt, but if i install servers, i do not want to wait for these stupid linux release timings! If it were hard, id understand. But most of this is possible with something like GitHub API and 20 Minutes of time. I mean, yeah backwards compatibility and what not, but then handle that internaly.

Example: I use dnsmasq on a raspberry pi. RPI is running raspbian. Raspian is debian 8. Debian 8 has a version of dnsmasq with a pretty annoying bug, which prevents me from using dnssec, as i cant open any cloudflare pages. Why, o why isnt this updated at MY will? Then, if it isnt, why is it so impossible hard to compile this myself, no docs for that, no binaries, NOTHING? Dear server devs, please add atleast basic autoupdate functionality without having to rely on the base os.

Or, give me easily deployable binaries, if you cant write something integrated.

I have been given the displeasure of updating a company's WordPress website which was built and (sort of) maintained by another company which ended up closing down. NOTHING WAS DOCUMENTED. Almost no comments added anywhere. Not even a description of the what a particular file does. File names are basically completely random. There are 3 versions of the same theme this company made and no indication of which one is actually being used. On top of this; they used plugins and modified them, so they cant even be updated without them breaking. As well; after looking around it seems they used jQuery mixed with Angular (or maybe the plugin creators did this?). The website isnt mobile friendly either; one of my tasks was to see what I could do with fixing this. Seems basically impossible based on the complete mess of a project this is.
All this being said, I just graduated from Post Secondary and have almost no experience working with WordPress, There arent even other developers to help assist me on this project.....

The popups on websites pisses me off.

If you try to google something quickly and enter various websites you have to close all popups on each site you enter.

Some websites try to make these popups more discreet by making them small and putting them at the bottom of the screen but then your brain just ignore them and focus on the small content above them.

In the year of 2022 people visit a lot of sites during a day. The human brain is programmed to put in as little work as possible to reach a certain goal so therefor everyone ignores popups.

This project is frontend hell.

We have a dark theme and a light theme. Light is the default but not for mobile. For mobile the dark theme is the default. And if we dont like something we just create a overwrite css. And if that one isnt working we just create yet another overwrite file. And !importants. They are important to make sure things are working.

The we use this framework, but not for mobile. No mobile is just custom jQuery.

Ow and of course separately from the mobile version we need a iOS app. An app which totally differs from the mobile version because we want users to use this now.

Few months ago i asked my professor if i could do something to skip all those labs and lectures from "introduction to programming". He agreed, but i have to take tests as well and make a program showing that i can use all of C/C++ functions, syntax required by the subject. After few months I didnt managed to do ANY significant progress. That happens when i dont have any directions, i just get 10 000 000 ideas and 0 motivation to implement them (with that many ideas my mind becomes tangled as well). I can bet that im not the only guy who has a similar issue, but keep in mind my mental situation isnt that great; more about that in the next rant.

Can someone tell me why C++ and python are so widely used in the AI department? I kind of understand… you want maximum performance (plus GPU) with C++ or easy logic with Python but still, it seems like other languages would still have there benefits in AI. It just doesn't make sense to me, why isnt it like every single other part of computer science where everyone under 22 thinks "now this is what JavaScript was made for!" (I mean js is used so much in other parts of cs, why not AI). Am I missing something? Maybe the resources are missing for AI in other languages? Can someone please expand

Wrote an subject filter in exim4 (took 3 days to debug and get working propely) that totally eradicate anything that isnt ISO-8859-1 from the subject line, then converts the rest to UTF-8 (because said IMAP client isnt following standards).

it also converts ISO-8859-1 characters in subjects to UTF-8 even if the original subject is declared to be UTF-8, because obviously some software (especially newsletter software) are transmitting ISO-8859-1 subjects that are declared to be in UTF-8 (but the opposite isn't true).

And also cuts subject to 100 chars, because too long subjects are a problem too. Same with date headers, I replace them with the server date/time because some software are sending Date: 1970 Jan 01 00:00:00, because some of these erronous headers are put by some mailing list software, aswell as causing problem in OEM clients like Samsung Mail.

Problem solved, all IMAP clients happy on internal network.

I think its a good platform to learn the syntax for a language. and get basic understanding on the language. granted It does a horrible job at teaching you what or how to do things. and its webapp isnt nearly as great as the mobile app.

I am currently fixing the EFI partition from my laptop's SSD on my gf's computer on a livebooted image of some random Linux. Anyone know if its possible that no bootloader can boot if there isnt any room on the EFI part? Oh yeah, and only a single mouse out of 3 works for some reason, and no keyboard... so I am using the onscreen keyboard -_-'

I like how hiring managers want everyone to have 5 years of Golang experience. I've been writing go since 2014. There were hardly any Golang jobs in the market 4 years ago. Where would be getting this enterprise Golang experience from? The only big companies that had full systems written in Go 4 years ago was Google and DropBox.

Follow up on my printer rant.
(Quick recap: my printer uses all colours when printing black and white, and it says the cartridge is empty when it isnt at all)

I finally have it figured out.

The current cartridges dont get used (for some reason) and i bought a chip resetter. I just reset the chip of the colour cartridges and I buy a black cartridge every now and then. Essentially making my printer black and white only, just how I like it.

Gonna start learning ASP.NET (Core) and prepare to get a job I’ve been looking at. I’m tabling everything else.

Question about PR best practices.

I work for an analytics company and often have to implement new ETL steps. The data transformations in these steps can be complex and the major changes are usually 500+ lines up to around 2000 (the last one had 765 lines just for schemas).

What's the best way to split up the changes into multiple PRs, bearing in mind that it isnt guaranteed that a file won't change as the change is built up?

So im through my trial period at my new job. I’m a bit surprised by how positive everyone is about me and my work so far. Especially since i feel i haven’t really contributed that much yet. I hope they’ll stay this positive but wouldnt be surprised if it isnt that case anymore after 12 months.

I always hate how colleages talk behind each others backs. There is someone leaving, supposedly because of travel distance. And one of the first things i heard was something along the lines that they are surprised it was still his own choice to leave.
