I have been awake for 21 hours and couldn’t sleep last night, because of long vacation and my bed time is messed up. This is my first day working after training and I got 9~10 hours to go
P.S. coffee doesn’t help4 -
Im confused, this is the requirements for a IT Intern. Do I need experience in jQuery? Or QWERTY Keyboard? Or Both?3
-
The best way to learn something is to teach someone...
If you learn a framework or a language or a tool u make sure u teach it to someone it helps u understand it better and someone else is also smarter6 -
Believe it or not… This means shit is doing what it is supposed to…
EDIT: Sorry for length web client users .-.15 -
Fuck Apple sideways! (Wait for it, the original part begins)
HOW can a company that keeps on boasting about UX, to the point that last WDC they took more time speaking about a fucking kaleidoscope animation for their watch then about the whole changes to their MacBook's hardware, even consider putting that turd of a remote on market.
If you have an Apple Store in reach, I invite you to get up, flush, and go there. Try that atrocity that is the AppleTV, and laugh at how incredibly bad it is. Then do your best to refrain from burning the place down in your inevitable rage, that might cause you legal issues.
The previous AppleTV was fine, it was practically useless, but usable. But for some reason they decided a touchpad with low precision and no gestures was a good idea to put on a remote to a thing that will, due to its target audience, most likely be plugged into a fancy TV that has a 300ms lag due to fancy image processing. That thing gives no feedback, appart from visual, has so little precision that in a movie, the smallest step I've achieved was 5 fucking minutes, while being really fucking careful not to spoil the movie.7 -
I hate it when I ask the customer where did they test it or where the error is.. On test or on production? And the answer is yes. O.o2
-
"Your password is too long or too short."
Uhmm yea... well is it so hard to check if it's either too long or too short and just to say both?3 -
Just created my first discord server after seeing so many people from here mention it. The questions I have are, why? What makes it better than say slack or something else? Is it prone to spam or bots? How is it for gaming?8
-
Is it just me or does it seem like everyone is "making their own game" but they mean they got opengl to render a triangle.4

My colleague just made a very subtle rant in real life:
"I wish we could become more software developer and be less software producer"3 -
What tf is matlab
I got a job for the summer, and I had to learn it by myself
Is it really a pain in the ass or is it just complicated to learn ?12 -
I don't know how to feel about it. What story it tells? Python is so easy that even vandals use it or maybe someone bleed on the wall how much she/he hates python. Or maybe it is scream of inner Vandal closed in cubicle who works with AI and blockchain for life's. What is the story behind this?6
-
I just noticed that the about page doesn't go all black. Is it a bug or is it intentionally left that way?7

IPAY88 is the worst payment integration. They parse html data and encoded it into xml for return the data, it is not even singlet or server to server communication , tey called it the ADVANCED BACKEND SYSTEM (My arse!) For security, they ENCODE THE STRING into BASE64 and called it ENCRYPTION ! WHAT THE FUCK?

Has anybody used or heard of Gun? Seems pretty cool, but how is it to work with? Is it performant?
https://github.com/amark/gun1 -
I just wasted 2 hours together with a colleague to trace a bug, through several modules, functions, data, etc to find out it was usage of the wrong information in the wrong place. The data used was never intended to be used this way.
I HATE SUCH SOFTWARE ARCHAELOGY.
Carefully uncovering layer over layer, getting one detail after another, from which you don't know if it's really necessary to trace the bug, until you lose the sight of the whole picture. Then when you're confused to the maximum, try to figure out what's important and what not and reassemble the puzzle until you can see where the road is heading.
At least we found the cause of the bug, so it wasn't useless. Now we have to waste more time to develop a solution (...preparing for next rant 🙇)3 -
Dear devRant,
when my ++'s finally reach 2^32-1, or let it be 2^64-1, the next inc. will better make it -2^32 or -2^64 because tHAT IS HOW IT WORKS AND THAT IS WHAT I WOULD EXPECT4 -
TL; DR;
I'm one with code and the code is one with me.
Everything in my life has been inconsistent and as soon as I start building expectations from someone or something, it disappoints. Be it my friends (😂😂) or my ex girlfriend or my studies or my college or my professors or work, or food (sometimes).
Coding, or programming, has been the only consistent and non disappointing thing since 2010 for me. It just works. If I write a wrong program, I know its why and where its wrong and then fixing it works. Sometimes it works in one go. And sometimes is works beyond my expectations. Its like coding chose me rather than me chosing coding. -
Im learning kotlin but heres what i dont get..
is it a completely new language that uses jvm concept like java or is it a template over java with extra stuff like C++ and C.
when i import a library in kotlin that exists in the java sdk does it use that or all the libraries are made for kotlin.
is kotlin java++ basically or is it something completely different
sorry if its a dumb question still nee at this7 -
Whats a programming language called that is compiled into another programming language called? Is it just a programming language or is it a specific type?6
-
C++ rant, but I'm sure it is similar in other languages.
I cannot stand +=,-=; I understand it is shorter, but for some reason I would prefer seeing: sum = sum + 1; or the like. Am I just too much of a newb to appreciate it, or is it just preference.13 -
Everyone is going on about how suddenly finding a programming gig is or has become a lot harder why with the outbreak and the economic downturn it is going g to cause.
But realistically is it true? Did I just pick a bad time to start a new career in this particular field or is it just FUD?20 -
Yay finally summer started
Ye no fuck that
After being "migrated" into a newer smaller office and getting another team member we are now three people on about 5 square meters of space.
Another good thing is that we don't have an air conditioning unit in the new room and gained a few more PCs.
Oh and did I mention that we are on the sunny side of the building now.
Basically we are working in Satan's Asshole now. Good thing is that I am working on a thermometer now.
35 degrees Celsius is still alright isn't it?
Oh and our fan broke today.3 -
Me :- how many words have I written ??
Is it million
Or it is two million
Word counter:- 100 words

Funny how fucken emojis, which came into applications (web or even native) by completely overusing them on mobile, don't really work on mobile.1
-
Don’t you feel like development with Android Studio is 50% figuring out why the f*ck is not building, or running, resetting cache, clean build, rebuild… etc, and 50% coding? Or is it my lack of experience?11
-
Is it essential for a developer to steal or copy code from different sources to satisfy their client or it's a common thing????😞2
-
Is kotlin worth coding in? Or is plain Java better? There are many people here coding in kotlin what made you change to kotlin from Java or from anything else? Is there a specific reason? Speed? Stability? Anything? Is it worth using it instead of Java?9
-
Is it just me or is the 'storefront' test for CAPTCHA much harder than the schoolbus or traffic light? Could be my diminishing eyesight, or bourbon too.4
-
A non dev has no right to pass judgement whether a dev is good or not. Be it engg manager or a product manager or any other manager6
-
How hard it is percieved by management to do something in code is proportional to whether or not it's a task that sales or the CEO wants, versus what the developers need. Developers want to rewrite something, or fix infrastructure? Too much work can't justify it. Sales wants to clone Google Search? We'll expect it by next month.1

If you are working for a IT company and if you start taking direct work from a client, would it be unprofessional or unethical or is it fine..6

Why is every website start doing the whole popup thing again?! Is it just me or was it better a few years ago...2

For me is the same Friday than Monday. I do not know if it is good or bad. Maybe it is good because I do not hate my job or bad because I do not make so much fun on weekends. 😗😗

I made a website for a fairly reputable company a while back and I only had about a week to do it so I used Wix. Is it worth mentioning in interviews or anything or is it useless considering its Wix?1

@linuxxx
Hey, it seems that you use dotOs, don't you?
Well, is there a full list of supported devices? I am trying to install in S8 or Mi A1, but i dunno if it is actually supported or not, Thanks!14 -
Saying I have 6years or experience, is it when I started learning it or utilizing it in my projects??🤔5

Is there like a "You can see but can't touch" software license? Or like you can't use it commercially or distribute it? 🤔1

MS Office is turning to crap. I have to use it extensively because of my job and it never fails to give me grief. Today I wasted so much time because even though excel is loading a CSV file, it still changes values (like april25 to april-25, or 1.0 to 1) without informing the user or ability to undo or disable, because it thinks it is too smart. :(1
-
Is it just me or feeling the imposter syndrome, and blogging about it is super trendy at the moment ?3

@dfox: is it just my Android device or is it the app that new sentences don't automatically start with a capital while typing. Kind of frustrating to manually press shift for each new line. Or am I just a little bit spoiled?10

Is it just me or there is always a work emergency (or clients suddenly needing something new done right now) on the day before leaving for holidays?1

Trying new things....
Half the battle is deciding wether to try it or not, the other half is deciding wether it’s shit or not. -
Is there a real difference between software engineer vs software developer vs programmer? Or is it just terminology?9
-
GAH! FUCKING VOLUME!!
Logic Pro X is killing either me or my ears!
The track is completely fine when I edit it there but when I export it and listen to the file that single instrument... is WAY TOO LOUD! WHY?
Is the converter script broken or something? Or am I just too blind to see the fucking volume switch?1 -
Worst enterprise software... Maybe almost all manufacturer bloatware installed whitout being asked if you really want it or what it is usefull for, when you buy a new laptop or phone.2

What's the hype about Rust
I've been seeing post about Rust everywhere and I got curious so I checked the repo. However, I'm not sure what is it for.
Is it like C/C++, low level languages that can be used for desktop and CLI, or is it a AI-oriented, etc?
Give me an example like "it could replace C#" or something.2 -
The magic Apple Support:
A few days ago, I suddenly couldn't login to iCloud on my mac. I thought it was something that would be gone if I would try turning it back off and on again. Didn't work. Used the mac without bothering about it. I was too lazy to call the Apple Support and it didn't annoy me that much.
A day later, suddenly Spark (my email client) didnt work either, it asked me all the time to re-login into one of the accounts but "an authentication error occured". At that point I thought it was a problem with the keychain. Because i don't use email that often and the last time I should pay 30€ if I wanted to call Support (out of warranty), I just started using email on my phone.
Yesterday, MS Office (yes I use it and I like this Microsoft Product and I'm an Apple fanboy) wouldn't login either. I didn't call them.
Today, I had finally time to call them. They didn't want to charge me since I selected an Apple-Id Problem (and I think the Support Hotlines are free to call idk). The call from Ireland came 2 times and the connection didn't work (thanks iPhone). The third time, the moment the Support guy said Hello iCloud worked. A few second later Office and Spark worked again too. I don't know how these coincidences happen. Anyway, I am just happy my stuff works again and I don't have to use Google Docs and write my mails on my phone. -
Argument exception message convention: is it better to specify what is allowed or what is not allowed? Eg: "value must be a positive integer" or "value can not be negative"?2

So everyone I know that has an iPhone is always mad at it because it randomly freezes or it is slow. I've yet to get my Moto G to freeze or to lag at all. Gotta love almost stock Android experience.2

Have you ever decided not to post a long(or short) rant just because you thought that it wasn't worth it or it is just stupid or something?1

Am a Computer Science student. And learned C, C++ and Java. And right now learning C# through online tutorials and practicing side by side.
So my question is, should I learn bash shell or not? Is it worth learning it? Or should I learn powershell scripting? Or should I don't learn either of them.6 -
So I'm looking into Scala, can someone tell me a good reason to learn Scala? What is the main purpose of this programming language? I have done some research my self, I would like to know what the community thinks though!

Or shall i go with some php cms already build or wordpress ?10 -
Is it me, or when I make a comment on a rant, it ends up being two comments with the same content. It sometimes happens and the secondary comment stays even when I refresh the page. I think its the website that is badly programmed or something like that.14

Bloody softlayer sending notifications about expected downtime on "IMS services" (which could mean any of a great number of things), without specifying what it is, what it does or to what services or regions it is related...
Grmbl, what use is there to get a notification about unexpected maintenance if you can't even make out if you'll be affected or not! -
Is it me or Android Studio is really slow with last updates? I mean from last 2 or 3 months it takes a lot to do anything1
-
People who generalize any technology as 'bad' or "worthless" (or worse, proclaim it is not secure, doesn't work correctly, or has specific problems it doesn't have) when the technology is widely and obviously appropriately used in practice just make themselves look bad. It's like getting mad at a hammer. It's just a tool. If you don't like it, don't use it. If you think it needs improvement, contribute to improving it. Non-constructive criticism is a waste of your time as a software developer.6

What is consciousness? Can it be simulated? If so, is it possible with current hardware? What is thought? Is it an input or an output? Is it voluntary? Is there a gap between stimulus and response? If so, how large is it? What happens there? How do you know?22
