When you learn your project will be launched Monday in an email sent to the whole company, just before the weekend...
I'm not even kidding. No one on our team was consulted if the app was ready or not.
There was no infrastructure in place to even deploy the app. Everything had to be done in a hurry over the weekend to deploy something half baked, thanks to that idiot project manager who told his boss everything was ready.
Two colleagues ended up doing this work over the weekend, but looking back, if I was the one having to get something deployed over the weekend, I would have just refused and come back to work as usual on Monday and watch that idiot explain why it's not live. -

Oh man... I fucked up. I spent almost 36-40 hours in 3 days trying to fix a bug, that was quite literally a single, two word fix.

3) have an experience with non stop coding at least 3 days, working at home is an exception
this rule applies when you get a job working as a wageslave, rushing on a tight deadline

Relatively stressful week with requirements doing U-turns and 5 requirements all becoming first priority, I had my first feckup in a while (nothing bad, just wasted a couple people's time) and now I started off into the weekend with this beauty..

Yesterday was an extremely stressful day. Several things went wrong, clients were already preparing for the weekend, a horrible headache was building up during the day, all in all: a day, where you'd better have stayed in bed. Finally home, I approached my mailbox, put the key in, opened it, expecting bills or similar things to... *cough* sweeten *cough*... my weekend, but instead found a letter from devRant.
Guys, I gotta tell you, this really made my entire day (if not my entire weekend). I know it's silly, because we're basically talking about a letter and some stickers, but it's the small things one should appreciate, as they can brighten the worst days.
Thanks @dfox and @trogus for building such a great platform, that allows fellow developers to vent about *certain* things from time to time. Keep up the good work!

Damn maintenance windows. I mean, I get that the SaaS product my boyfriend works on can't go out in the middle of the day. But he just spent weeks on a business trip, with an absolutely mad sleep schedule because he's redesigning their data center (or something. Don't ask me, it's a hardware problem...) and now he's finally coming home today and I'm super excited but all he's going to want to do this weekend is sleep. Even though I'd love to spend Sunday going to this yearly event, or finally getting another round of DnD in (everyone else in the group is available). But nope. After YEARS of research, I couldn't find a single working load testing tool
So this weekend I created my own. With blackjack and hookers.
It's limited to my app, so not reusable, but wow in 1 weekend I got more data and found more infra problems than in the past 3 years.17 -

I set up unRAID on my server this weekend, and only just checked my logs to see if anything weird was happening. Turns out 2 IPs have been trying to brute-force the SSH password all weekend. I quickly installed the DenyHosts plugin and reminded myself to always use a strong password, which luckily I did.
A bit later now, and one of the 2 gave up, the other one keeps trying but of course the connection is refused. Just keep trying buddy :P6 -

One of the devs didn't show up to stand yesterday, remote or in person. Turns out he was in the hospital for seizures.
They asked me this morning to work Sunday and I said no. It's not worth the money and I'd rather have the weekend. I don't need to be prone to seizures to know that this level of work is deeply unhealthy.1 -

Fucking hate my internet, ubisoft and steam regularly have a free weekend where a game can be played for free during the weekend. Currently The Crew 2 is free to play for this weekend. Its been downloading for 24 hours and its only at 23%. In my experience that means I can play it on Sunday evening for about two hours and have no internet the rest of the weekend.3

Its been so long since I had a weekend in which I wanted to be productive and also was as productive as I wanted to.
This weekend everything turned around. Last week I learned to use blender to make basic models while I was traveling to and from work.
Today I was really productive and started working on my VR wooden toy block building game.
I now have an infinite blocks box, with randomly colored blocks which you can color yourself as well.
Gonna do performance and textures tomorrow.
Cant wait until Ive finally made a playable game, its been 4 years now. -

My dumbfuck hosting fucked up the mysqlnd installation and it is missing the pdo api extension. All my queries are returning strings for every field. It's easter so no support available. I have a son, so my social life pretty much revolves around him. That said, we just had a great weekend. We reserve weekend afternoons (after his nap) for adventures, and I think we do well with it.
I make it very clear to my employer that outside a certain scope, I am simply not available for work. They understand and accept this, but it took a lot of years to get to this point. I've been doing what I do, in some form, for almost twenty years. -
Spent most of this week busting my ass working on a hotfix that came out of nowhere with mega high priority. This annoys me greatly because the hotfix wasn't even fixing a bug, it was adding new functionality because certain customers were being blocked from testing without this specific feature. In my humble opinion, given that we release every weekend, hotfixes should be reserved for actual critical bugs. But anyway, as I probably could have predicted, the code got to QA and exploded. Literally nothing works.
This is what happens when you try to rush out features to satisfy customers. If you try to rush something that is late, you WILL make it later.
Meanwhile there's an issue I'm supposed to be fixing for our next release which goes out this weekend and I've had no time to even look because of this hotfix. And now it's the end of the day and I just feel worn out from stress, tomorrow will no doubt be similar.1 -

Took my first PTO today since joining the new company to get my wisdom teeth extracted. Already took care of that first thing this morning. Now I actually get to kick back and listen to some records until my new GPU is delivered, and then I get to fuck off the rest of the weekend with new games because my wife says I can't do any yard work this weekend.
Only had the top two extracted because I was born without the bottoms I guess. But less pain on my wallet and my jaw, I'll happily trade in the narcotics they gave me and stick to my scotch.
Not a bad 3 day weekend in my book. Ill have to go back and figure out who/what broke the projection runner in the sandbox environment when I go back, but eh. that's a Monday problem now. 😎4 -

So I apparently forgot to encrypt some parameters when sending error reports from our app to the server.
Which means the server tried to decrypt them but couldn´t and just threw an error...
No error logs for the app this week I guess. Yay!

At this point I'm not sure whether I'm too slow or the deadlines are too tight
People keep asking me for new estimates but I feel like those only serve the purpose of putting pressure on me and pointing fingers at me later when I blow them. It's not like I know when this feature will be ready. New problems crop up as I progress, and people are like "this should have released yesterday". I didn't slept yesterday and neither did I get to enjoy the weekend before that because I tried to make progress in this even though I couldn't bring myself to work in the weekend after all. I feel like I might even lose this job, and I don't have any recruiters spamming me on LinkedIn or a lot of reserve money to last while I look for something else afterwards. Sucks ass to feel incompetent (and quite possibly be, but I hope not). I guess I just have to keep on keeping on.1 -

Going on hour TEN of soft-launch weekend. Lots of problems with all the new procedures, and now a problem with a DNS entry that's taking forever to get resolved. Still have failover testing to do before users start their testing, and all of this means I've been awake for about 27 hours straight at this point.
And I've got this to look forward to again in a week since next weekend is go-live... presumably we will have learned a lot of lessons from this and it will be much quicker and smoother, but honestly, I'm a cynic, so I'm not gonna assume that'll be the case.
This kinda sucks, is the main thesis here.4 -

Building atom on an RPI 2 with this fuckstickle of a package manager is a bloody nightmare. Works without issue on Raspbian Jessie, implodes into a spectacular clusterfuckeroni on Raspbian Stretch.

We create home automation S/W and have it installed in the workplace.
For some reason the lights in the Help Desk/Testing department didn't turn on this morning. At the time our lead engineer was there too.
Rather then try sort it out themselves, they called R&D and got us to check the issue out. Turns out the lighting had been tripped over the weekend when the maintenance department was doing some work.
As we were investigating the issue they were just talking about their weekend so could of easily investigated it themselves! -
