Hired a new backend Dev. He writes a script and sends it for testing...
Tester: "It's not working..."
Backend Dev: Goes to Mongo and deletes the tester's whole profile...
I cant control my laughter every time I remember this incident...He claimed it was a mistake, I don't think that it was a mistake...the tester had it coming...
"It's not working" that's all he says every time...I mean at least give me something to start with...!4 -
I prefer silent kills.

"My think isn't working!"
"Let me see."
*starts program, error message appears, clicks X*
"What was that?"
"Don't know, appears every time, I never read it."7 -
Just did some initial programming of my Arduino to run the alcohol sensor.. seems to be working well. So, looks like it's time for testing 🤤 cheers!32

Learned Python by working 6 year with it. The first tool I made in my spare time was a porn playback helper.6

Just got laid off from full-time salaried position due to various business circumstances. I absolutely loved working there because they paid well, are low demand, they were 100% remote before it was COVID cool, and they didn’t micromanage anyone. Will continue to work for same employer but on hourly work order basis. I’m fighting the “provider” urge to find something else full-time as quickly as possible. My wife, who’s also working part time, says I shouldn’t be in a hurry and take my time to find just the type of job I really want. She’ll even go full-time while I search.
I’m the luckiest unlucky guy.15 -
An engineer was working on a windows server. Needed to partition something so typed 'part' in the windows search thingy (windows 10).
Few results found:
Participation laws
Part time working
Partial (something)
Engineer: Jesus fucking Christ I just want the FUCKING partitioner, windows what the actual fuck.18 -
College/university: gets a FAIL for plagiarising stack overflow. Serious offence
Working full time: gets PAID to plagiarise stack overflow. Everyday routine.11 -

This is my first post. Had an exam in php, xampp wasnt working, assistant came and said i dont know to configure codeigniter, after 30mins of calling he came, tried and sad "well this isn't working". He then called administrator to reinstall xampp. I lost more than half of exam time. I didnt finish it in time, he said that i could do it in a less time by his opinion. It was full working php site with crud and customer view. When xampp started working i had 1h to do it all. After some time and arguing i got a a new date to do it. It is tommorow. Help me god hahhah.11

For fucks sake, corporate IT has locked a database application for new entries because it will be phased out by the end of the year. However, the new application is not yet working.
The interim solution? An excel sheet on a shared network drive. In fucking 2020! Unbe-fucking-lievable!12 -
When you are working on a feature and someone else is working on the same thing and you commit at the same time and now you have to resolve conflicts but both versions work2

Another day of happy coding :)1 -
I hate the feeling of not being able to get shit working and it's time to sleep but you don't want to sleep until it's fixed4
-
Working with SSD is like working with an old man. It knows a lot, and tell you things right off the shelve, but it can die at any time.7
-
A client sent me a message this morning asking for a change to the software I'm developing.
It's Sunday, right?6 -
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET A MATHS PART OF MY RENDERER WORKING FOR TWO DAYS NOW AND IT HAS BEEN WORKING THE WHOLE TIME BUT I WAS USING THE WRONG VALUES TO TEST IT THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS TO ME I WANT TO DIE18

First time working with an UI designer. I'm finding out that I'm not that bad with CSS, I'm just bad at design !2
-
As a developer, you are working with colourful text, strange syntax, alot of math, and all the time you know that you are not the best yet!
-
working on two projects.
at the same time.
for 2 different companies
2 completely different scenarios
2 completely different languages
nodejs and golang19 -
Working with the french person in the office and git gets me every time.

Goddamn accent!7 -
"Don't bother spending time learning MVC. We'll never use it here."
o_O
Well, that was 4 years ago, I'm still working here, they're not, we're using MVC.5 -
Finally made my laptop a dedicated linux machine, time to start working on a theme then to start on OS development until Gamemaker comes to linux! :-P14

A new junior developer diet: treat y'o self with a candy of choice every time you finish a project that you've been working at during your "free" time. Guaranteed fat loss. Coz' you won't be eating any. And you're lazy.4

3,5hrs trip to Stockholm. Good time spending on devrant and working on exam project. Css3 grid everything!5

Long Time No See #Devrant
Been working on this, a new take on a classic game.
Just finishing up, Stay Tuned4 -
Yay😊
The company I'm working at (as student developer) just told me that they would love to hire me full-time, when I'm done!
Love working here, so totally gonna take them up on that 😊14 -
The first time i made my own electron app, and saw it working and displaying live data the exact way i wanted it to be doing it.
At the same time, it was the first time i felt like been a real dev in all meanings. -
Spent 1 hour "debugging". All this time I was running the old executable. Realized, took a deep breath, ran the new executable; everything was working properly. I love my life.
This is how you waste time, buddies! 😓4 -
Fav items on my desk:
#1: "Rubber duck" and stressball all in one
#2: my motivation to keep working so I can afford this car some time :D5 -
Opens pycharm

"I'm getting an error. It's just not working right."
Stupidest. Bug. Report. Ever.
Please stop wasting our time with tickets like this people, it only requires is to then spend more time just figuring out what the issue is.
🙄🔫4 -
Pathetic dev moments: Any time my macbook fans rev up, I worry that I'm working my baby too hard, so I start closing applications.3
-
A moment of silence to those working on multiple clients with multiple deadlines at the same time but still got time here.5
-
Ever find when you're working on a personal project that you spend more time trying to think of good names for classes than actually writing code?5
-
Time tracking. 😡🤮 If I’m salaried and only working on one project for one client, why the hell should I waste my time making weekly reports of how many hours I spent coding, reviewing pull requests, and sitting in (mostly pointless) meetings?6
-
Why do people fucking do this? You're working in a team, ffs. Even if right now you're the only one working on that branch or whatever, that doesn't make it okay to have the most useless commit messages of all time.11
-
I think one of the main disadvantages of working at Uber is that you should explain you’re an engineer not a driver every time someone ask you about your job2
-
When you spend countless hours working on a new feature and realize that there was this google API which could do the exact same thing the whole time..... -.-6
-
Our team spent 2 continues weeks working on deadline, without going home, doing all our activities in the company, learning from each other, nd developing great apps. Once upon a time.3
-
I assume this only happen in my country (Malaysia). We have multiple inconsistent lockdown...
So most of us went from working in the office to Working From Home. During this time Our employers expects us to clock in to Zoom Meetings or Dingtalk meetings for 24 /7 , microphone must be turned on and camera must be turned on at all time, other wise it consider as a void(that means salary deduction, not consider working) .
Employers here have the mentality of ""IF I DON'T SEE WHAT ARE DOING WITH MY OWN EYE , I CONSIDER YOU ARE NOT EVEN WORKING.".
I'M sick of this shit tbh.11 -
When team members want to discuss an issue for so long that if you spent a quarter of the time working, you would have completed the task.
-
Working a full-time job, then helping with the newborn/household, then staying up until 3am because it's the only time I have to work on my app.
After a year now, the burnout is strong.
Tips to reenergize?3 -
I've been spending more time reading rants than working the past few days. Thanks for enabling my procrastination devRant! :)1
-
I guess I've just got the ideal dev job. Working from home, with nice people in my team and enough time to deliver quality work.8
-
Me: Hey maybe you could finish this game you're working on before starting a new one?
Also me: but this new one is so cool!
Me: you said that last time4 -
import time
time.travel('now-10 years')

Does anyone know how to get the travel method working?3 -
Renting a flat above a kindergarten.
I hate Christmas songs and I am very sensitive to high pitched noises.
It's a bad time in the year to be working from home...3 -
Baaaahhhhh!!! I just stepped on my UPS power button and killed my machine after spending considerable time working out the plan for a new tool to add to our system.5
-
I loose it big time when developers in my team say "it's not working" and don't even care to explain what is not working and what were you trying to do....2
-
For the first time ever, I locked up a processor while working. Take that, 24 cores!
Unrelatedly, if someone is in the office, could you please power cycle my box? ...Thanks.2 -
The moment when you've spent way too much time working on your mail server and your dumbass friend instinctively slaps a @gmail.com at the end of your custom domain...1
-
Hiding my secret side project that I spend 69% of my free time thinking about and 11% of my free time working on.4
-
Cutting down on coffee and trying to stop smoking at the same time as working on a close deadline... not a great combo9
-
That feeling of absolute joy, when something you've been working on for a loooong time, finally just works... THAT is the reason why I love what I'm doing
-
Sometimes when I'm working on some front end stuff, I'll forget that I should look at the local file and instead look at the version online. I spend about 5 minutes every time figuring why it doesn't change before I realize just how stupid I am. It gets me every time. Every gosh diggity darn time.2
-
Today I decided to quit my job as a web developer.
And so I did..
NOT!
April fools. I'm still working all day without time to do or learn new things.2 -
Just quit being in a team for an app i was working on on the side. I liked the app but i decided working 10 to 6 is enough work for a day, i deserve guilt free chilling in my free time.1
-
That one time I was working on the Mattis quote but wrote “everyone” instead of “everybody” by mistake so started over. Awkward place to stop, I feel. Thought I’d share.5
-
I'm sitting here at 1 am working on a side project. There's, literally, a bug in my code. It's bed time.9
-
I've been working remotely for more than 6 months, but today it's the first time I'm coding wearing only underpants
Living the dream4 -
When you loose 15 minutes looking at why "padding: O;" isn't working... it's time for bed.
...
Yes that's the letter 'O' instead of a number '0'.8 -
Why is it still not working for me?
FOR THE 10TH TIME TODAY CLEAR YOUR FUCKING CACHE!
Sorry what was that?
Clear your cache please.1 -
96hrs (3 days), I was working with violent autistic kids at the time. Snow storm prevented coworkers from coming in, so I stayed.2
-
*spends 2 hours actually coding and working on the project*
*remembers hasn't made any commit*
Welp, guess it's time to do the git shit. -
Does time tracking makes you anxious? I just had a small project for a fixed price(no time tracking) and I felt so much less anxiety while working. This one ticking clock makes my work so much stressful.8
-
why the fucking fuck no one, no one explains their problem
It's just the same every fucking time, 'It is not working'
How the fuck'd I know why it's not working.5 -
Big event today! I will be publicly previewing a project we’ve been working on for almost a year now for the first time.
I wonder what they’ll think.5 -
You are a developer and you will only log time you're actually working. This means you will not be logging time spent in meetings, chasing for specs, requirement clarifications and similar. You must log 8 hours each day.
^^-- wtf?!? Is anyone else working in similar conditions?12 -
This was a much needed vacation.
Was working non stop for last 6 moth. Went to my native place, enjoyed time with my parents and frienss.4 -
lol,my mom just called me to check whether I had lunch or not. I was working and forgot what time it is!2
-
OK so after working with SDL for a bit, we have a circle rendering!
Next step is to start working on keyboard input and then onto importing sprites, first time building a game engine from the ground up and working with Vala in this capacity...
EDIT: Gif in comments because it doesn't want to work .-.6 -
Quiet working environment (aside from hearing a joke from time to time)
Fast computer, lots of screens, keyboard and mouse of my choice
Good product owner that doesn't accept bullshit request into the sprint
No legacy crap5 -
"Your goal should always be, working on building things so tomorrow you don't have to worry about them... If you are being repetitive its time to reevaluate"
-
What's wrong with motivation?
Each time I have a great idea at work, I stop working, I search for informations and then, when I'm home, I can't motivate myself to work.6 -
Scenario A:
Your code is working. You run again, now it's not working.
Scenario B:
Works on production. Next day it doesn't.
It is nothing you just experienced alternate universe. You probably with your manager temporarily jumped into another timeline where your code is not working.
Next time it happens tell your manager it's not your fault.
Eureka!6 -
Best: My projects are working, I could get a great salary
Worst: I'm working for a school project and I have no time.2 -
An hour of "WHY ISN'T ANYTHING WORKING" followed by ashamedly squashing 20+ local commits and actually remembering to git push the result that time.1
-
I have recently come into some spare time and I decided to build a game.
This is my first time building a game, mostly just worked on IoT and data processing, and I need tips on how to avoid becoming addicted to working on this hobby.6 -
Working on a bug with the intern. Suggested the "stepping away for a few minutes" technique. Came back and quickly resolved.
Works every time. -
two hours spent debugging without results, only to realize that I've been working the whole time within the wrong working copy (checked out a week ago for a totally different purpose, and then quickly forgotten)
-
Working on Ruby on Rails for first time..
Blogs mention it's more human readable..
I guess I feel like semicolons, args and braces to be more readable... -
Ugh downfalls of building with open source and constantly changing tools is having one perfectly functioning project just stop working... Time to redesign... Again!3
-
Time spent getting to grips with your OS is usually time spent well. While you're not operations, it really helps being able to solve general problems yourself without calling support.
Oh, and: Set up a good bashrc, and put it on the servers you're working with.4 -
Probably when I was younger and got my AI working for her checkers game I made in Z80 asm for TI-86. Spent so much time on it not working and then seeing it finally working and taking jumps and scoring the board positions and it seemed semi intelligent even thought it was a very weak ai ... Still I was excited 😁5
-
How many projects do you have going at anyone time?
Me: I'm currently working on two laravel and a WordPress theme.8 -
Ok, time to start working on things
*Twenty One Pilots casually release 2 new songs, a music video, album release date, tour dates*
Fuck that let's just fanboy all day3 -
For me its a good night sleep and have a strict rule not to work from home/not-working-location. It will make the window of working time more focused.2
-
You know that I'm pretty young for a programmer(as I said the other time) and instead of working on my website I'm dragged to macy's
I want to die -_-5 -
Finally code start working fine no bugs, no warning just working.
Moments later!
start to compile again but this time either with warning or with bugs. Anyone? -
I can't tell if I'm slacking off or now working at a more normal, slower pace....
How much time do you actually spend working vs taking breaks, lunch?
Or maybe how many hours in a day, do you actually spend being productive?4 -
For me, I personally just over estimate the time and take my time working on it. Take breaks whenever I need, that could be going for a walk, watching a few videos, etc.1
-
000WEBHOST IS SO MUCH SHIT IN ONE PLACE
Nothing on their website is working, every time internal errors and default loading times at up to 1.2 sec
SHITTY HOST!9 -
Just realized my code was working fine the whole time after spending 5 hours debugging. Turns out I accidentally made it throw an exception at the wrong place .-.
-
How do you feel with not having motivation to work on/finish your personal projects?
I'm working 9 to 5 plus commute and at the end of the day I just want to eat some food and chill. But I keep beating myself up over not working on things that will improve myself.
Does anyone else feel like this while working full time?3 -
A music community! A Real world one with tech to organize it.
Actually working on it with finite time and money -
Looking for critiques on a website I’ve been working on. Client pushed me to release it early after every time I tried to tell them to wait
Critics welcome: www.perfectaimbowling.com15 -
When you make a typo in a command and spend 20 minutes googling why it isn't working trust me its time to sleep and reboot.4
-
Estimating time before consulting the dev on the task he/she will be working on is like pouring the milk in before the cereal. CRINGE.3
-
Hey devs, I wanna start working on open source projects related to java and Android but I have no idea where to start.
I have been developing apps for some time but my profile isnt good enuf so thought i can get some more experience by working Open Source.3 -
I swear, 95% of the time whenever I threaten to start using my Task Manager or restart my computer my apps start working normally.1
-
"You need to learn Angular for a new project. You can do it in any free time you have."
Where "free time" is defined as:
Any time left in between working on priority tasks or bugs, bugs which have failed testing and the weekly array of meetings, tech sessions and meetings to discuss the progress in learning Angular. -
The past two years since I've started working, I've never taken a holiday. Today, I was forced to go on paid leave for 3 weeks. Feels weird but kinda exciting at the same time :D
In the end I'll probably be programming half the time anyway...5 -
I'm working on 3 projects, alone, and no chance to finish any of them in time. Woosh goes the deadlines....2
-
I just realised that working 6 days a week still leaves me more freetime than going to college and working part time1
-
Im kinda hard of hearing, so every time I hear someone talk I subconsciously concentrate on the conversation instead of what I was working on.1
-
Last Month I was working at a place as a intern and also working at another place as a Tech Consultant/Proj manager, managing interns at the same time.
What a emotional rollercoaster it was..............1 -
You know it's one of those days when you're scouring through vendor code in order to figure out why your code isn't working
Time to get some coffee -
I took a day off work to go enjoy camping.
I've never felt so much anxiety about work at this time. I feel like I need to be working right now.4 -
Release on Monday === almost 10h of code today... Though it's just an internal release, so not that serious really. Though it's be fun to have something we've been working on for half a year working decently the first time people actually get to try it... Well, well...
-
Why the hell am I so talkative!!!!!
I think it's better I work alone so that I be less of an annoy for others...
Side-effects of me working at day time..
Missing working at night time all alone..3 -
Working from home working on the company project. The working time ends and i just switch projects for the next 6-7 hours... and i am happy with this1
-
Longest goddamn development time ever on this one app I’m working on. Totally got demotivated for many months. Only now just starting to finish it.
-
I'm so bad about keeping track of my time, that I just use `git reflog --date=iso` to figure out when I was working and not working 😂
-
!rant
Today I got access to the code for the new contract I’m working on.
It all built first time from source.
I’ve never wept such joyful tears. -
When working as a full-time developer
TGIF!, Its already 6 hours? YES!
Working freelance or on your side-project
TFIG?! What TGIF. This feature took 6 hours? FML. -
I'm currently working nights, away from home, and have no time for programming. God I miss programming... So much.2
-
So they took my personal meeting just because there was delay in delivery due to other dev as he was working on shitloads of things and didn't get time to work on API and didn't gave me in time.
And they specifically called it "Doubt meeting" LMAO. -
part of my workflow i want to improve?
in general, take more time to get to know better the technologies and tools i'm working with.
e.g. learn all the fancy hacks and features of my IDE or of a certain language or framework.
i tend to be in the mode "i don't have time for that, it already works the way i use it". if i spend "too much" time on learning stuff, i feel bad, since i could also spend that time working on my ever growing list of tasks. but i think, that's not a good habit... -
*working on a small project at home*
Uk its been few hours lets have dinner
*checks time*
2:30 AM
Fuck -
Going to the office when the girlfriend is working from home.
But most of the time, I knowingly stay home too3 -
when you spend way too much time trying to figure out why something isn't working and its because you didn't clear the cache
-
Work expands so as to fill the available time. That's Parkinson's Law.
Or in other words: The amount of time that one has to perform a task is the amount of time it will take to complete the task
So, if you have a deadline, wait until the correct time and then start working. This helps a lot in terms of not over-doing things and will save precious man-hours.3 -
Anyone who's a student and also working on a job .
How do you manage your time ?
And what's the courage level to do a certain task ?5 -
>first time working for big tech company
>first couple days with no sudo, cant setup environment :(
>however

How tf one manages his work/life balance . I'm either working without pauses, studying a new framework or wasting my time playing video games. It's no middle .3

I've been a long time Windows user, worked with Linux a lot while working on servers.
Installed Linux Mint on laptop. Fell in love. Can't switch because I like to game in my free time and my favorite games are Windows only :/8 -
Definitely the first time I saw real time data from a backend on a webapp. Something so magical about it actually working and me maybe not being a total dumbass.

I'm proud of myself and I really enjoy working there !
It's challenging and at the same time really cool.8 -

When compiling my first C++ program after sometime working on Python I got 17 compile time errors. All of them were either missing ';' or an extra ":". Damn you syntax!1
-
After thorough considerations I came to the conclusion:
RFC3339 is better than ISO8601
Also working with time and dates in C++ is making my head hurt please help me12 -
I’ve realized that it’s past my working hours when I was looking up auto generated file created date time 😂.
P.S I’ve deleted a rant to post this 😂 -
It has been 2 days since I completed a project and I still don't feel like working. I wake up, waste the whole time and repeat. Ugghhh its frustrating!!!1

There's nothing like having your boss elbow twist you into 1 hour of not-work-related zoom time past your working hours just because he's feeling lonely from the lockdown =/3

Which is better? Working in a company with someone who can mentor you or working in a company that gives you time to study on your own?8

Is anyone else having a hard time finding another job after working as a full stack developer for a few years?4

Who invented WhatsApp in the first place anyway?
Cuz I do not know when is the right time to "off work" since I start working.
People start ranting about my blue ticks if I don't reply after working hours.5 -
To senior devs: How do you manage half a dozen projects at once and decide when to prioritize time and do the small tasks yourself and when to let your team members learn and let them take their time...all while you're working on something exhaustive yourself?

I am working as designer, doing psd to html stuffs and i'm having hard time when the developers inject their own css inside the html elements (inline) and broke the responsiveness4

pros of working on a full C++ project:
Time to browse XKCD while it is building to fix a small bug my predecessor made. -
Ignoring Windows update message, wen suddenly.....it did install Windows 10....Crashed in Setup... nuked my working time by 4 hours...lost 2 commits...3

Did you ever think time estimations are hard? If so, did you ever try adding your actual taken time months after working on a ticket?8

So my exams were going from a long time which kept me back from programming. And I started working on something today again, can't believe I love programming so much. -
Working in a team is overrated. You most of the time end up working with sleaze bags.
Like high-school projects, where most of the work is done by either 1-2 people.2 -

Been working on a project for a pretty long time now. I really think this could be something cool, and I just integrated paypal!

It’s rather sad,
Working on an Ajax upload for my first time.
It’s taking forever.
And of course, simply I have no idea what I’m doing.
And yet alas,
I got so very very excited.
Because,
The error message was finally different this time.3 -

Demo of a feature had to be canceled just minutes before the meeting. Entire environment is hosed and don’t know why. Also, the feature to be demonstrated turned out to not be working before the environment stopped working, so we now have more time to shift to another solution. Win?

This has probably been asked before here - but how does a developer leave a day job to start working freelance full time?
I've worked on projects in my own time on and off during the short 4 or 5 years of my career so far and I've always considered doing it, but how do people make that jump? How do you start working for yourself and how do you secure clients?1 -
Saved almost 50min traveling time due to public holiday so less traffic while working on public holiday. It's a loss-loss situation anyway.

Area: oil & gas
Full time job: SCADA apps, network comms, real time database;
Part time job: drilling app for geologist engineers, real time data acquisition, lots of math calculations and simulations;
I'm loving both jobs, because of working with external acquisition devices, because of freedom of work and complexity of the field. -
I'm working in two projects at same time, but only one is paying, apparently the free one wanted me to work at the weekend without telling me to do.
-
University projects. I used to always delay them till the last day/days(somehow I knew when to finally start working to be just in time to complete it). There i would be not sleeping for 2/3 days and submitting like 5/10 minutes before deadline time.
P.s. I've only been working for about a year so not much to quote from there -

When ever I start working on a project of some kind I usually find myself cursing the code, cursing myself and asking why I couldn't just go into something easier. But without fail, every single time I get the project working for the first time, I have a massive grin on my face and feel like a child at an amusement park for the first time. All the bad feelings I had towards the code dissolves and makes me excited to keep moving forward.1

What do you say is the best approach?
