My girlfriend comes in and sees me on devrant.
GF: "What is that app? I see you using it all the time. Is it like an endless blog with updates?"
Me: "It's kinda like facebook. But for developers. And you don't have any friends".
GF: "That seems like a sad app"37 -
*Builds a web component for a client website*
CLIENT: I don't like it, can I have it a tiny bit over to the right more
ME: Taps the arrow key a few times making it look like I'm doing something.(Which actually does nothing)
Client: 👌Perfect

Me to my bf: You smell. Go shower.
Him: I don't feel like it...
Me: Sudo go shower.
Him: Goddamn it Rudi..
*wait for it*
*He showers*
Me: *evil chuckle* I gotta post this to devRant14 -
My brother just called me asking for help in some MS server thing and I'm like "I don't know that!" (I really don't), and he replied "Yeah, you know, mom told me to call you to ask for help.". Jesus Christ. Just because I'm in CS it doesn't mean I know everything informatics-related.
I now know your pain, devRanters. I usually don't mind being the IT support (so much that my parents call me to help them when their computers decide to randomly die or do something weird because of something they've done, but I live like 300km away because of uni so I can't just go there and help them. Sometimes I say "Ask your son" (he's taking a tech course in high school), but my brother cuts out of it like "I don't know how to fix it" without even looking at it sometimes. Well duh, me neither at times, but google is your friend damn it. Sometimes I search for the answers. Other times I just poke around in the program until I find what's wrong. Either way, when I say I don't know and/or I can't really do much about it they give me the usual "We're paying your uni fees for what?" (in a joking tone but. I'M NOT STUDYING FOR THAT, I WANNA BE A GAME DEV DAMN IT)), but goddamn it I don't know everything just because I am a CS student. I wanna help but sometimes I can't. Deal with that >:V8 -
Fucking hell. If I like your bloody app, I'll go rate it myself you fucktwaddle. Don't ask me to rate it just after I've opened it for the first time.7
-
"and what do you do for a living?"
"I study software engineering and work as a software engineer part time"
"Really? You don't look like it!"
"Excuse me? What do I have to look like?"
The stereotypes are strong in development...4 -
friend: what are those lines on your screen
me: programming
friend: but like don't you program it
me: yeah but I have to write it
friend: but like don't you have to program the lines
That's when I quit trying to explain it5 -
Manager: Make the page look like Apples.
Me: What is it you like about their page?
Manager: I don't know, it just makes me feel good.3 -
"My cousin said he can do it for less. But I like you so blah blah"
Why don't you go your fucking cousin then. Stop wasting my time.3 -
"Europe to make it illegal to change the OS on radio devices like smartphones, routers and embedded devices."
I don't know what to say anymore29 -
I don't like the use of `motherboard`.
We should change it to `parentboard` instead
That way its more inclusivejoke/meme looking for reasons to bitch at things snark social justice is a bustice gibe me mor of dat python bs30 -
Why does it say someone +1'd your rant/comment in the notification while the person actually ++'d it?
a+1 and a++ are not the same.
@dfox I don't like this.25 -
In IT-Class:
Random: Ey watcha doin?
Me: Programming. What else?
Random: Oh, you're such a nerd...
Me: Programming is fun! I really like it.
Random: Please don't say this is your hobby...
Me: It is.
Random: Bruuh... *goes away*
Why the fuck are you here, if you're not interested in programming???
I don't understand such people.13 -
Me: hello IE, you see that div with id?
IE: ...... ..... .... yes.
Me: would you like to set it as absolute and stick to bottom?
IE: ........... i don't know...
Me: but all the other guys like chrome and firefox are doing it.. come on it's not object-fit: cover; just absolute positioning. Please.
IE: ......... I can't!
Me: why the fuck not??
IE: ......because I don't see the id...
Me: FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT!!!!!

When you see a comment like this in your codebase:

Definitely Nextcloud. Now I don't have to use proprietary software like Google drive and Dropbox anymore.
It's a shame I found out about it last week. I wish I found it sooner.11 -
I like that google explains how to install Android studio after downloading it. Like people who download android studio don't know how to click next, next, next, next, install.14
-
I hate it when people don't want to work for themselves and when I share something for their knowledge
"Wow what pro", "Dude you're so smart" etc in a sarcastic manner.
Dude wtf, you don't want to improve yourself then fuck off. You're there because of yourself not because I fucked it up for you.
You reap what you sow and i don't need people discrediting my effort to get to where I am today. I get it, I'm not even what you would call "pro", So what shitface?! I wanna be there someday. If you don't then just die. I don't need people like you in my life 😬😬😬7 -
This was not a client but my CEO himself. The website of the company was supposed to be made responsive. So, during the design phase I was explaining how how events should not be used to display ideal information as hover don't exist in touch devices. To this, he says, "Why don't you create something so that when the user has his hand over the phone(like an inch above, but not touched), it treats it like a hover".
The worst part is I still don't know if he was kidding or not!8 -
I just f*cking hate front-end. I don't care what it looks like as long as it's working how it should.16
-
"I pronounce GIF like 'if'"
"LISTEN HERE, YOU BETTER START PRONOUNCING IT 'JIF' OR ELSE!!!"
"What gif I don't want to?"6 -
I honestly don't understand why some developers like to shit on other's preferences.
Don't like PHP? Fine, but don't give shit to somebody else for liking it or coding in it.
Not a fan of Javascript? That's cool, but do realize that there are people who enjoy coding with it and don't appreciate you talking shit about their preferences.
Don't like a certain framework? That's okay, but again, there are people who code with it so don't tell them that they shouldn't.35 -
I don't really like WhatsApp, but I am forced to use it to keep in touch with some friends that don't use messengers like Signal or Telegram.
Today, I see this. What the hell is this crap? Snapchat 2.0? Whatssnap? Who thought this would be a good idea?
Fuck WhatsApp (and Facebook).12 -
— I heard you like programming and are quite good at it.
— Don't know about the latter but I do like it.
— Cool. Can you help me set up this Excel spreadsheet?
Actual conversation I had about two months ago...3 -
It makes me feel like a whore when looking for jobs.
I don't really wanna do it, but I'm in a situation where i have to do it to survive.6 -
When lot of people are actually using you open source software and contributing to it and donating money for it, but you don't know why given the fact that it objectively is complete crap.
I feel bad each time that I receive money. Is this what the "impostor syndrome" feels like? Because I'm actually feeling like an impostor.2 -
So... if github and twitter are both down - I don't have to work today, right? It's like a snow day, isn't it?9
-
I like this one the most, it was a gift from a girl I had a unrequited crush with.
It was like: "hey I make stickers, you can have this one, but it's a little girly, do you mind?" and I was "(😍) of course I don't mind"2 -
Whenever I'm trying new tech at work I don't keep interrupting people ta help me with error messages because ITS A FUCKING NEW TECH AND NO ONE WORKS WITH THAT SHIT!
WHY THE FUCK YOU KEEP ASKING ME FOR HELP WITH YOUR FUCKED UP NODE SHIT AFTER I TOLD YOU THAT I DON'T LIKE IT? STOP IT!3 -
I don't really drink alcohol, but every time I look at my (old) code, it looks like I was drunk when writing it.
-
I fucking hate Angular. I don't know man I've been using NoScript since my balls dropped and I feel like JavaScript is fucking useless (I like Typescript syntactically though).
What drives me nuts is all the frameworks: Think of a word, add .js, search it up... it's theeeeere.
I know I'm not the only one who fucking hate JS, and I don't think there are many people who genuinely love it. Sorry I just wanted to rant and it's 5 a.m.9 -
I took my old project and I was like "Why don't fix it and open source it?". So from 2785 lines of code in main class, I've cut it to 1662 lines of code while keeping same functionality plus some more...4
-
I have changed
I cannot study anymore
I don't like doing it
There's no fun in it
I cannot run after marks like everyone do
I cannot mindlessly memorise things without understanding
Anyways bye7 -
I don't know if it is that I just hate xcode or if I'm just a noob at working with it, but it feels like this7
-
Why don't people like Java? With only a year of AP comp sci for experience, I don't know enough about it to say I do or don't like it. But it's widely used, and is an official language of Android. Are the people hating on Java just people that don't use it? Or is there something about Java that people just genuinely despise?35
-
Today it was decided that we would hide a bug by making a new feature that only hides the bug
I don't like it, but it needs to be done for actual reasons5 -
Friend - could you comment your code, so I can review it pls.
Me - *comments "gets shit done" ,
"Does some shit ",
"I really don't like commenting my code "4 -
I cannot take this shit seriously.
I don't feel like reading the rest of it
Title: fuck typescript
1st line: well, actually I love typescript9 -
I hate being so insecure. I don't start developing an idea because I think I won't be able to do it, I don't code together with someone who is better than me because I think they'll make fun of me or think I'm doing it wrong, I don't speak up in class even though I probably, definitely, know the answer. I feel like I'll never get anywhere if I remain this way. Anyone have some advice? Thanks11
-
I like dark themes but I really don't like it when the black of the desktop theme is clashing with a different shade of black in the program2
-
You know what irks me is whenever people ask me how to do something without Googling it first.
Like ffs whenever I Google the same issue because I don't know the answer either, it's literally the first fucking result. Like damn bruh.
I don't mind helping people at all, but please at least try to be an adult and Google the fucking question first.13 -
Pausing music because I have to concentrate on a test case like crazy.
3 hours later...
Wait? Why don't I listen to music?
Ah I muted it like 3 hours ago :-/1 -
don't know if it's fake or not. I don't use twitter, but it looks like something that would happen there3
-
Shit. Today I found out I have a serious condition - severe case of hypocaffeinemia.
I don't feel like I'm gonna make it through the day2 -
How do you guys program when you don't feel like it especially for school? I've fallen a bit behind in my classes and the programs are really easy to write but they're time consuming to do and sometimes (most of the time) I honestly just don't feel like doing them. How do you get yourself motivated?10
-
PM : "I will not tolerate this."
Me : "I don't like it either inside callbacks."
Fellow dev sitting next to me : *facepalm*6 -
I love materializecss.com .. I love the concept and I don't know why, but I like it ways better than bootstrap. Materialize looks kinda fresh to me - not the classic Material Design. Aaaaaand it's very easy to work with it.5

Taxi Driver: Do you like this song Sir?
Me: Not sure, I don't know it!
Taxi Driver: Alexa, change the song...
Me:...4 -
From fresh experience, IF you are learning Git I would really suggest you fully learn it from a professional before really using it. So you don't accidently delete 1,5 weeks of work like I just did :))))))))))))7
-
One day a boy asked me that why don't you use FaceBook , I replied "People Like me Develop FaceBook instead of using it"5
-
Windows. There, I said it.
3 years ago I got a Mac and it just made sense to me.
Many people don't like Mac and love Windows and that's fine by me.5 -
I wonder if I'll ever reach a point where I write a line of code and don't immediately refresh the page to see if it worked like I thought it would3
-
As a guy who hates touching anything attached to the name "JavaScript"... Vue is pretty cool. I kind of like it. I suddenly don't hate building a website. I don't recognize myself in the mirror anymore.6
-
Sometimes i wonder, why do big companies write horrible api, it feels like they don't want beginners to even touch them 😒3

Arguing with my girlfriend (recalled from my mind, not 100% accurate)
she: What do you expect when you buy an android?
Me: sure thing apple is more "unpack it, use it", easy to use - but android is more like an empty canvas. The first thing when I buy it is setting it up to my needs.
she: You don't understand, what do you expect from your android device?
me: It has to be affordable and work for a certain time
she: No I mean, do you.. when you unpack your phone, expect it TO WORK?
me: Sure, it's not like I buy a pile of trash, I expect it to work
she: you're too stupid, baka
me: ... ? *confused*
she: When you say it is like a canvas, isn't a canvas someday full?
me: yes, every phone, iPhone, Pixel, Samsung, every phone has a limited memory
she: *mad* you don't get it, silly
me: I want to but heh, I don't get it10 -
I like obj c more than I like Swift. I don't know why and even tho it is the same API I find obj c more intuitive and useful since it is a strict superset of C and C is very useful.
Not to say I don't like Swift. I like it. I just have something against mobile OS APIs really6 -
Working too fucking much.
When I don't, I feel like I'm letting my team down.
I'm tired, yet I'm still fucking doing it.3 -
Do not wave you phone around during a video interview. Don't turn it upside down. Don't put keep your hand near it -- I am not interested in your finger nails. Don't pace around. Don't look like a YouTuber that has no idea what they are doing on a video conference.
That is all.2 -
I don't like web design, but i'm also annoyed the people I want to have do my tattoos don't have anything on their site (just says under construction)...
Would you design a website for free tattoos (if you like tattoos), or is it still more trouble than it's worth?5 -
Got a vertical mouse a while ago, and I like it.
Saw this on Youtube, thinking of going full vertical now...
But rear mirrors on my keyboard??
I don't know dude...10 -
I hate it when recruiters write something like "I now that you don’t like recruiters, but maybe you like this offer."
WHEN YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE YOU THEN JUST STOP TALKING TO ME!2 -
Is it justified to be angry at websites that break because of extensions like Ghostery or uBlock Origin?
'Cause I fucking hate it when their fucking website breaks because I don't want to have trackers on my pc8 -
Uhhh I'm on like the 12th or 13th week of not touching any code.
I just don't feel like it, and now classwork is piling up, so I just don't do it. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️6 -
I don't fucking see how others get their stuff through code review, if when I make an enhancement it gets stopped for stuff other people did before me. Like, at this point it seems like I'm spending more and more time refactoring than simply doing the requested enhancements.
I don't blame the team, they're going off of the documentation. But this is getting ridiculous.2 -
Not long ago I claimed that I don't like KDE Plasma. And now I am using it as my only DE and realize what I was missing out.4
-
Xcode storyboards
I can't do it justice by explaining how many times having the entire UI flow in one file has helped me.
Even for unexpected stuff, like an Android dev joining the team and needing to know the workflow of login / registration -> print screen the storyboard.
Manager asking for all the different possible paths through the app -> print screen the storyboard(s).
And then live rendering of custom components to be able to see them while playing with alignments.
While it has its bugs, and could have a few more features, it's too useful to ignore.
I know many iOS devs don't like it, and that's fine because I don't like them either and I don't hire them ;-)1 -
"I've quit Facebook" - congratulations, and here is your medal.
Like, most that are quitting facebook raves about how bad it is, but what they don't realize is that they're bringing Facebook behavior to other platforms instead. "Look at me; how great am I for quitting Facebook"-behavior and actions are only seen on Facebook.
I don't like Facebook either (and haven't used it in years), but there is a phrase that is perfect for when shit like this happens: "double standard".3 -
Am I weird for not liking Whiskey?
It just kinda tastes... bad. Everybody is taking about notes of vanilla, undertones of strawberry, BITCH where. It tastes like weird with alcohol. And the alcohol part isn't really the problem. I'd much rather drink straight up vodka. Yes it tastes like drain cleaner but at least it doesn't have this weird ass taste to it. I actually quite like vodka. I just don't get whiskey17 -
Recently at my work everyone got all hyped about blockchain. I've spent years studying it and especially crypto so I like to think I know a lot about it. Now every time some feature is discussed (like tracking video views) someone non tech shouts out "Oh we can use a blockchain!" And I have to spend half an hour convincing them why it's a bad idea in this particular case. Like we don't need to share that data, we don't need to ensure integrity without trust etc. I mean a blockchain is a great piece of tech but please stop trying to apply it everywhere...
It's like people think that the blockchain features at its most simplified level don't work anywhere else. E.g. as if stuff you put into MySQL suddenly changes because data integrity is not a 'feature' in that sense...2 -
"I don't like it. Fix it."
No more explanation available. Plenty of constructive criticism to work on there then... -
I'm not sure why but I don't seem to like latex. Maybe I could get into it but it just feels weird.10
-
So... Today I started using my first Python web framework, web2py. At a first glance I liked it, the templating system, the view/controller thing ecc. But there is one thing in frameworks that I really don't like: they make me feel dumb.
I mean, in just one line of code I can generate an entire form, but if I wanna customize it a little bit... I can't. Or better, it is very hard, also if there is a bug, I have to look for a problem in an entire system that I DID NOT wrote.
I don't like the idea that the frameworksl handles everything for you, like it is teasing me, I don't even know how it works, it just works, and man, I don't like it. There's some kind of hacker in me, I dont like a system that just works, I want to know how it works. But the sad thing is that I will have to learn web frameworks if I want to work in the IT, right? Please If you can help me or share your experience with web frameworks do so.3 -
I hate that I can watch Silicon Valley over and over and love every episode Everytime. (Don't really hate it just needed it to sound like a rant.11
-
Fuck YouTube and their sponsored content!
You can clearly see they get paid to promote certain videos as they pop out of nowhere, regardless of your interests, and no matter how many time you click "I don't like this" or "don't recommend channel".
It can be simple stuff like Warthunder vids (which I don't play and never searched for),
Or complex like the Amber Heard trial - vids that make her look foolish. Feels like Depp dropped some serious cash on YouTube to make him look like a victim! (regardless if he really is or not)
Isn't there a law that sponsored content must be marked as such?13 -
Is it bad that I kind of don't like using DuckDuckGo as a search engine?
I mean, I use it cause duh privacy. But when it comes to search results- google always gets what I want-
Jesus that kinda sucks why can't i get both10 -
I don't fucking get it why people find it normal to have a zoom meeting run in background for the whole working hours.
Like WTF11 -
I don't like others to know that i'm a programmer. Do you agree or why shall they know? It just changes their opinion on you.4
-
Man it always feels like i know nothing. Like when you don't know HTML it feels like you know nothing .
Then you learn js, backend, some database.
But you don't know react so fuck you you know nothing.
Then you learn react, but you don't know vite, next
So you know nothing.
this cycle never ends
FUCK8 -
What is your OWN opinion on these new Javascript XMR-Miners?
I personally like them. I only want to be asked nicely to enable them so they don't cause problems. I would kindly do it.5 -
Damn, this delicate 15.6" piece of plastic I call my laptop is the reason I have to tolerate stupid curious college-mates. Whenever I open it, everyone is like woah dude, you are a coder! does it have porn ? or games ?
yeah mann fuck you . its 2018 , I don't play pc games and I can watch porn online . can you fucktards just leave me alone and let me work ?
Why don't we have cheap laptops with good specs but smaller screens? like 7" or 9"
fucking CSE college pervs acting like babies :/8 -
My laptop is in a coma, it won't turn on!
Now I don't have anything to do with my life, it's been 2 days and I feel like a stone age man9 -
Just picked this up for my goals this year. If I don't like it, I can always sell it off and I don't like having to switch between screens on my laptop for tutorials. Has anyone used How to Learn Python the Hard Way? Did you like it? Hate it?5
-
ASP.NET.
I don't like the workflow. Because of a project I had to use it.
Will NEVER use it again (unless a project force me. Money is money).6 -
I noticed I adopted a method when people just can't answer something simple like "well how long is it going to last?" and then getting an answer like "I don't know", which to I reply "Well, what's the average it lasts?" and they suddenly remember it again, fucking knobs2
-
Has it ever happened to you that you don't feel like doing anything at all? And you go in a loop of procrastination and then end up wasting just another day of your life?
I don't know how do I get out of this ...
don't feel I have a passion to do anything in life now 🥺9 -
I know you might like your OS theme and how the desktop looks. But please don't call it sexy if you are not sleeping with it. I'm pointing you, Arch Linux users!2
-
What?
I don't get it?
That doesn't make any scene....
goto line 5980
😎 coding like a boss....
goto line 8764
🤡 I have no idea what I'm doing.... -
Today I noticed that my colleague is using Light Theme and it's pissing me off. I don't know why but I am really obsessed with it since this morning. I don't feel like talking to her now.
Maybe she's trying to torture me. That's so cruel.5 -
Every time I read or have to use "char" I read it in my head as Charizard. I don't even like Pokemon...
What's your most absurd association you use to remember something?2 -
Started a new job recently and feel like I don't know anything compared to everyone else, only got a years commercial experience but feel like I should know more! Anybody else ever feel like this when they were starting out? How do you overcome it?6
-
Am I the only one that doesn't like Java? I mean I don't hate it or say it's bad. It's pretty clear that it has been probably the most influential language after C. I just don't like how typed and verbose it is, also I feel old just using it or something based on it (like Jenkins)13

!Rant
Looking at various Devs & non-devs like myself, ranting, posting meme's [my bad];
I realised why we keep coming back. Nope not because of the notifications, but because devRant feels like home dare I say it, it feels like family.
Thank you @dfox @trogus & the other creators who aren't that famous [my bad I don't remember your names].
Thank you.5 -
In my early days I thought "fallback" is a bad thing like, hey no wait I don't want my function to fall back! I want it to move forward, man!!!1
-
My girlfriend comes in and sees me on devrant.
GF: "What is that app? I see you using it all the time. Is it like an endless blog with updates?"
Me: "It's kinda like facebook. But for developers. And you don't have any friends".
GF: "That seems like a sad app"
Credit: i am programmer, i have no life (fb page )7 -
Guys...
It has come this far...
I... I like test driven development and the amount of unit tests and security it gives you. And I kinda laugh at people that don't take unit testing seriously :p35 -
I don't really get it why my co-male dev does not like ternary operator as a shorthand operator for if/else statements.15
-
Why am I so stupid? I still don't understand programming after three years of studying on my own. I even went to a programming boot camp and got a c.s Degree. Just tell me that I'm not a fit for programming so I can quit. It seems to me like I don't know anything, I feel like I can't learn for shit. What am I missing, why can't I write code on my own? Why do I always need people held my hand? Why I don't understand anything?13
-
People say they don't remember 10 years back.
Sh*t, I don't even remember this code. I mean, I wrote it like yesterday3 -
I can follow and am fine with the Vue documentation. I go crazy when I read online tutorials. I don't know webpack. I don't know ES6. I don't know nodejs. Arrghhh.
It is like all of a sudden I'm thrown into an English speaking courtroom as a lawyer or into a bunch of Brits. -
What exactly is a junior developer?
I mean what it depends on?
I ask because some colleagues have told I'm not junior but I have a junior role at my company
I don't even care and I don't like these classifications of devs but when someone asks me if I'm junior I actually don't know what to answer
I thought it was getting crazy when I read about ninja developer role but let's not talk about it
PS: I have been coding for 5 years now if it matters27 -
Dear Colleagues. Stop saying iOS (i-oohs). It's (i-oh-es). You don't call it fucking windows ooohs. You sound like fucking idiots to our clients1
-
My eyes don't feel comfortable on some dark-schemed IDEs or text editors. But when it comes to Sublime & Atom, I like them dark.4
-
Our team has finally moved to git fron svn and i'm loving it. I don't understand why would anyone use svn 😐. Would like to know if any of your team uses it2

Overheard PHP developer say: "I don't like Node.js, it should be more like PHP where everything is async."3

I don't know what's wrong with me this morning. I started refactoring, and I know I'm overdoing it. I can't stop myself. I'm stuck fiddling over it like a meth head scratching his skin.
Please stop me. I'm hurting the code.2 -
So I was talking to my gf (a filosopher) about why I don't like a Cisco ad.
She sent me this, this morning. . .
Have you heard about it? Where can I learn more?2 -
Does anyone know of a advertisement service that donates to charity directly? I'd like to put ads on my site, but I don't wanna do it manually1

Even if I don't like a rant that much - if it's getting a lot of ++ and is close to 175 (maybe like 150) I always give it another one to give it that little nudge. I'm just that kind of a guy.3 -
Whenever I search Anaconda, Nicki Minaj's explicit video songs pops in the 3rd result... I don't know why I feel weird about it... Feel like I have to explain myself to myself...?!?2

Finishing my degree after moving to a foreign country alone, while also working as a dev part time.
I recently moved to another country and switched jobs, and even though I'm getting stuff done, I feel like I just don't deserve the job. It just feels surreal that I made it so far and it just feels like dumb luck sometimes.2 -
I drank so much whisky tonight I can't see straight
no proud of it, but at least i don't lie like all the social media fucks
at least i have that14 -
senior "don't do it like this, there are alternatives"
doesn't mention the alternatives
thanks? i can look into implementing it how you want if you'd elaborate the alternatives....6 -
Damn, summer is here, I go to bed at dawn and wake up in the afternoon... it's strange... I don't like it. I liked going to bed when it was still dark outside and waking up to a sunset :(2

I still don't know how I feel about programming tests here in my university being on paper. Literally, we code on paper and that's it. Teacher corrects it like a compiler.7
-
People might like it. People might love it. People might wanna kiss it. People might wanna share bed with it.
But I just don't feel it. -
Decided to use awesomeWM - I prefer it massively to i3, even though I don't use it's optional tiling layout.
Anyway, after a number of hours, I've got it how I like it!2 -
Trying out VSCode, and... I'm trying to like it, but I just don't. There are certainly nice features that I like, but there's also so much I find inconvenient. Microsoft's design principles and all...3

"please like our new post on LinkedIn"
AGH fuck off asking every employee to like your shitty "oh we hired some one new" posts
I don't fucking care that it then seems like an active company. I like shit only if I actually like it... Not some boring ass shit post
Also stop trying to micro manage your employees... Like actually wtf...1 -
People talk about hacking like, "I don't do it cause its illegal", like they could if it wasn't/ )))2

I had a lunch lecture on AI today, and the guy who gave it was like: don't worry AI is like really stupid right now it won't take over the world. in fact, AI right now is about as smart as a mouse!
my thoughts: how good are you at catching mice? because I don't feel like running after one for sure2 -
Why does it feel like nobody uses D?
I love it. It combines the best bits of C++, Java, Ruby and even some Python. It still is C ABI and C++ ABI (ish) compatible. It can do everything you need it to. It's not limited like Java. It feels cleaner than C. I LOVE IT. But I don't understand why there's not much going on about it. Is it because it's not 100% stable yet? I don't know. AAAARGH7 -
Just found out its 3 day weekend.
I don't pay attention to those dates much.
Even when I look at the calendar I don't see it.
So its like getting a present I didn't expect.6 -
Do devranters think that Reason(ML) is too late to the game to compete against TypeScript...or can it ride React success to become more than a niche?
Personally I like it, but, like with F#, I don't enjoying the lack of resources every time I need to get something done.7 -
I like going to work on casual wear, I don't like going to work on formal wear but my boss sayings that it's part of the corporate culture and we have to follow it.
Do you guys go to work on formal or casual wear?6 -
I have only read negative things about slack - can any of you give me a good list of reasons for why people don't like it and whether that's accurate9
-
I don't like it when guys use emojis when chatting with me. I find it weird.
But when girls do it, I like it. It's hot.🔥9 -
I never had to deal with an attack.
At least, I don't know about it. My firewall couldn't detect anything.
I wish I could have experienced something like that tbh *sob*2 -
Co-worker: Please finish and push your frontend asap, I need that to start working on the backend.
Me: Why aren't you using Postman?
Cw: I don't like it.6 -
I feel like I have to put my personal project on hold because I have to study for exams, but I don't want to stop working on it.
FUCK1 -
Anyone watched the Silicon Valley? AMAZING! I love it, Ehrlich and Gilfoyle are the best!
Does someone know a similar show? And please don't suggest the IT crowd, I don't like it8 -
All this talk of javascript fatigue, and yet when tools like parceljs come out people still regress to webpack... I don't get it9
-
Why have I never touched bash scripting before?!
Using it to create an easier .NET Core build command thing for myself because I really don't like the default command syntax, been using it for 5 minutes and already in love with it...1 -
(colleague) Are you still using Emacs?? why don't you use Sublime instead?
(me) Because I am a PERVERT and I god damn LIKE it (being pervert & Emacs)2 -
I don't understand how after decades, people who know what they're doing don't disable automatic updates as one of the first actions on a newly installed windows machine. People moan about it on here like they don't know.5
-
I don't like laptops, it just doesn't feel the same, too small, keyboard is meh I dunno... I like when the screen is in eye level but keyboard is lower.
Is it just me?
PC with 2/3 displays feels more natural to me.2 -
Ok, now math is starting to make sense and I'm beginning to enjoy it.
Is this a new level of the love of hurting one self or is this the act of enjoyness? Hmmm...
I noticed that I like to "reverse engineer" the formula we have to remember (I don't like remembering without knowing its benefits and reason of existence and it will most likely be forgotten after graduation when I don't find these two attributes of one formula) and I noticed that I am rather old fashioned and like to do it in a complex way instead of the derived ready formula way.4 -
Someone on WhatsApp asked me did I like the new update or not ?
Well here is what I replied,
WHAT THE FUCK ?! NOOooo ! already there is Snapchat whose USP is this feature, Snapchat is Snapchat, then they introduced this feature on Instagram that's ok...but WhatsApp should be WhatsApp.
ALL I WANTED IS A SIMPLE PLAIN MESSAGING APP, THAT'S IT !
Now it's wasting my time more, earlier I just used to see Instagram & Snapchat stories in my free time BUT now !? I will see these fucking stories again here on WhatsApp too... BECAUSE I can't help it, it's in our human mind psychology too, we are curious beings, we are somehow bound to open that Status Tab when we will see a green dot ! If it's not true SEE THE NEWS ! NASA just found a whole new Solar System just ~40 light years away ! YES we are curious, we explore, we invent things.
I hope they will roll it back, but NO the ugly truth my friend is people will rant about and forget, and we will end up using it too, hate this seriously ! for instance the new iPhones have no 3.5mm audio jack, WTF ?! well say goodbye to my favourite ear buds ! and buy these FUCKING NEW Monstrously over priced bound-to-buy pair of earbuds if you need high quality audio out.
AND are we bound to be slaves and continue using these features because everyone else is doing so ? NO ! I will use whatever I like the most, I will go back to the roots, may be use those old school IMs and may be ask others to join it.6 -
I don't wanna be ridiculed for this, but I have really been meaning to ask. What is people's obsession with the dark theme? It seems like such a noob thing to do.6
-
I don't like things like "programming is copy&paste"
But if you think about it... Actually it is: when you don't know how to use a function or how to write a new language you read the docs, copying and using what they say 🤔
Stack Overflow? It's a doc full of examples 😁6 -
You can't have a boss like this: I was assigned to a job that has been delayed for 5 months; It has to be finished by Tuesday. the development team is done with what is necessary, but I don't like this situation2
-
I was just hit by this wave of depression. I don't even know why to be honest, but somehow it feels like things aren't going how they should
This sucks man4 -
Anyone here have any experience with PHP? I've never really used it myself and don't really want to, but I do look at things like http://phpsadness.com/ from time to time.
These complaints range from "fairly minor" (some stuff like function names/args and some syntsx complaints) to "how is this language even used" (segfaults in a scripting language, broken things like "create_function", comparisons and ternanry operator).
Of course, i don't program in PHP so i don't know how bad any of this actually is.
Anyone actually use PHP or did use it previously?19 -
I have no motivation to code anymore :/ ... I try but I just don't seem to have the interest in it anymore like I use to have when I was a teen.4
-
I feel like a intern when I am a full time dev. Damn it, I need to improve. I don't wanna be a burden.1
-
It has been 2 days since I completed a project and I still don't feel like working. I wake up, waste the whole time and repeat. Ugghhh its frustrating!!!1
-
Sending approximatively a 100 PRs to trigger a reaction of my colleague.. Like "it would be great don't you think so..?"
I didn't get one (PR) back... -
Really crossing my fingers at the idea of an Iphone SE2 :( i really want that to happen.
I don't really like retarded big phones and there aren't that many options in the Android area that I like.
And no, I ain't a fucking fan boy. It can be a windows phone and if i dig it i'll buy it.5 -
So i ranted about how bad the snapchat app was in terms of design and performance a few days ago here and at a couple of other places and the general conscience was that I should use it for a few days and i would like it.
Well, here's what i have to say. IT STILL SUCKS!
I tried to use it every day to keep up with what others are doing and sometimes try to post but i really don't like his bad the app is. It doesn't make me want to use it. Its a battery hog. It fucking drinks through my battery like nobody's business. The v10 update made it a bit better but it still sucks.
I still don't like the UX design but I have come to hate it less. It still sucks though.
I still don't like that there isn't a proper way to discover people. The "discover" tab is just paid advertisement.5 -
I don't like Chrome because Windows 10 forces it to perform slowly so that edge can perform better & people can fucking use it.8
-
What the fuck is up with all these vpn articles. It seems like they are everywhere. It's like get this vpn, no buy this one, wait no buy this one. Like I don't need a fucking vpn and it's not a must have.4
-
I don't think meeting are bad nor good, it's like weapon, it's what we do with them that decide.
also, it's pretty easy to kill someone with it -
I totally want to refactor my project's code, but I don't have any time for it and now it's a working piece of spaghetti-ish 😭
I'm just praying I'll get to do it once it's actually finished, so I don't have to work with it again in like a year and want to travel back in time and murder myself.13 -
I don't understand how can Wikileaks be still active and publishing new stuff... Shouldn't it be like "pwned" by CIA or NSA or something? Can I trust whatever I see on that website?10
-
Is it weird that I don't wanna live to be hundred, but I'd rather do everything I wanna do as soon as possible?
Sorry to ask something like this here, but my friends are dealing with their own shit and don't wanna bother them.3 -
10 Months ago i started with webdev. Before i never program at all, but i Fall in love. The only thing i hate about webdev is this.
dude:look at my Website?
me: how did you do this?
dude: i used 900000 frameworks. it was really easy.
me: ...
I know.. you don't need to reinvent the wheel, but if don't think about what actually happens, where is the fun??
i don't know if it is also the case in Software dev but i don't like the way it evolves6 -
Every bank employee I've met as an IT student: "I've never imagined myself working at a bank. I don't like banks, but I like working for them". Which means they pay well.

Ok I can imagine that being premium uses more ram cuz the offline content won't be handled magically.
But still... I don't like how it looks like 🤣1 -
Today Phoronix posted a short article about a (in my opinion cool) new feature I implemented in my file manager (Dolphin). Most of the feedback was positive/constructive criticism but some people attacked me personally because they don't like the feature/think "true" Linux users wouldn't use it.
I gave you something cool for free. Would you please stop bitching about it?
If you don't like it don't use it. You can even disable it if it threatens your ego as a Linux master user5 -
Any DVORAK users here?
I don't really see myself willing to learn how to use it, but I'd really like to hear from people that adapted to it, when and how they use it and why!3 -
Don't you just hate it when someone borrows things from you and they don't even have the common decency to give it back the way it was borrowed.
Like come on! You borrowed my charger and gave it back to me without its head. Then when I asked you to find it you got mad. Is your fucking head straight? You even had the guts to shout at me. Stop playing like you're the victim and get real.2 -
I was thinking about switching to Dvorak but then I learned that there are no significant study that it really does improve typing speeds. I don't feel like switching for something with so little gain and I return people will look at me like i'm hermit hipster. I mean they're doing that already. I don't have friends. Pls send help4
-
Whenever I feel like searching for a freelancing job in python, I feel like I don't know anything and stop contacting the person who wants to hopefully - since there are retards who don't pay - pay for it.
Fucking impostor syndrome.2 -
Is it odd, as a primarily Web developer, I don't like to be called programmer?
It's not what I see myself as, but colleagues do1 -
Insane amounts of coffee. Because if I don't have it at least once in a day, I don't make any sense at all. Just like how coffee isn't a tool.
Fuck. -
I am I the only one who doesn't like sprint demos? I don't care what someone else worked on. Yeah they wrote some code that does stuff, great. I don't have time to understand it and when I have to fix it I learn it.
-
I honestly feel like I don't know what I'm doing. Actually, I don't know what I'm doing. From when I used to code to now being a solutions architect. I still Google a lot of things, I forget the stuff I've learnt/know. I feel like there's something that keeps on grabbing all the information I try to store in my brain and chucking it out.7
-
I still don't get it why we don't have code snippet paste ability, like slack or .MD file? Can we have some little formatting please?
Pasting screenshots is not always the best.3 -
When I get stuck or don't understand why something is not working the way I think it should, I like to walk my self through the code and explain it out loud to myself.1
-
Question: can I describe OOP as "not in a loop, doesn't use interrupts" ?
I don't know much outside of OOP so describing it is like describing life, hard.9 -
Don't think anyone's posted anything like this yet but if they have I haven't seen it. Where do you see DevRant in the future? I'd like to see a forum or something, maybe allowing people to showcase work or get support on projects. Anyone got thoughts on DevRants future or community? I like it so far everyone's nice.12
-
I needed to switch back to my laptop's keyboard (I usually have it hooked up to an external setup) but I'm instantly reminded why I don't like it...
The Up and (eph) button don't work.... can't get code or any decent typing done....2 -
Some one just asked me to build his site. I don't enjoy building sites. Especialy wordpress... I have never used it but i don't like it. But It could be a fast cash. What do you guys think?7
-
I really don't like the anxiety when Xcode crashes, I need to force quit it and really really hope that my code is saved...
-
I'd like the ability to convince my teammates to gradually work on a project rather than working obsessively on it the day before it's due. I don't like waiting for the last minute to get things done, I like finishing things early so I'm not stressing myself out.
-
How many times does it happen that devs leave an old job to go to a "prestigious" new job only to end up hating it?
In my case I don't like my new job and don't want to go back to my old job(even if I did kind of like what I did there). I'm kinda stuck waiting for a certain minimum amount of time to pass so that I could go to some other company doing work that I actually like doing.6 -
Javafx is annoying as fuck.
I still don't know how to add a scrollbar to a vertical box. Why can't it be like visual studio? Just drag and drop.3 -
I already have two (very smart) people telling me my frameworkless JavaScript looks like Go. But I don't know Go and never wrote a line in it.2
-
So the guy who sits next to me in my class uses white theme for his IDE.
Me: So, you use white theme.
Him: Yea, I like it. So much better than darker ones. Don't know why people like it. Does it bothers you too?
Me: Pfft, no!
Me inside:7 -
Read the whole thing here:

This isn't a devrant post really, more like "adjacent to the societal void that all brings us here".
Anyway. This is for you.
"Fraud" or "Addiction"
Lies are like addiction.
We lie to ourselves.
We lie to each other.
Why can't we just be honest.
Why can't we not be honest?;
I don't need it.
I don't need it.
I WANT it.
But I don't want how it makes me feel.6 -
I don't know why you expect your website to be done in a month when you can't even fucking decide what it should be.
I CAN'T READ YOUR MIND ASSHOLE.
Don't tell me that I did it wrong or it doesn't look right when you said that you wanted it like that.
I wasn't hired as a web developer, I've done high voltage electrical work, machinist work and repair of the shit you can't even take care of. All for 15usd a hour. If they don't keep their promise to bump the pay....1 -
I'll put it this way. Svelte is like Kotlin. It's modern, elegant and a pleasure to work with.
React is like Java. Old, bloated and a pain to work with.
Svelte makes React look like it was built by masochists.
I don't work on frontend often, mostly because I despise the frameworks.
Svelte is a breath of fresh air.
I just want to ship a product quickly and it doesn't get in the way.2 -
I don't want a tab option because I have to click it but I'm willing to take 2 minutes to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the content I want .... while you're at it create a button for me that selects specific items out of the select options because I don't feel like having to pick the option I want .... stupid users
-
I hope people don't use container to workaround dependency issues. That's like buying a new computer because you don't know how to upgrade a tiny software. We should learn how to manage things properly, not wrapping shits up and pretend it is clean4
-
Still waiting for stickers and the stressball. I don't think I will ever get it. Been waiting for it like an eternity. 😢2
-
I don't usually do web development,
Today I said to myself I should refactor and improve my personal site. Like adding widgets and shit.
I remembered why I don't do web development. I hate it, I don't know much about it, I'm bad at it, and I can't do shit if I don't get spammed with error messages. I hate that when something goes wrong everything doesn't just crash and burn but it keeps going. I know that it sounds weird but I got used to having a single line wrong and all the project crashing. And I wouldn't know whats wrong if it doesn't give me constant feedback.
I guess I will just use Django for web development then..1 -
That I will always be average at my job.
I will never be good at it. Simply because I am not passionate about it. But then I also don't know what else is there which I like that can pay my bills.1 -
I started to like Typescript. It was like c# on the client. Then the amount of lines and functions grew, so it was time for modules. That's pretty much when it went like this for me:
https://hackernoon.com/how-it-feels...
I know it's a year later, but I don't think things have gotten much better since. That was pretty much exactly my experience this year.1 -
TailwindCSS, I don't get the hype around it. People say its awesome and it has changed its life. Wtf, it looks like a bunch of utility classes to end up writing inline styles.8
-
So, a year ago we started to learn java at school. Since I have started learning java I hated it. I don't know why, but I absolutely don't like java. Do you guys agree? I want to like java, but I have no reasons why, anyone has some tips?5
-
On one hand, it would be nice to have someone else help me out. On the other hand, I like having total control and knowledge of the source and I don't like people messing with it.
-
https://youtube.com/watch/...
I honestly don't believe it is really true and if it is, I don't think google listened in the backround or even cortana did, but it was youtube itself.
But still, pretty creepy and maybe listening does not work like in real time, but it is working. Slowly. Hidden. Precisely.1 -
I figured out how to skip 2 months of development so we could launch Long ahead of schedule.
Question is should I tell them or do it? I don't feel like it really as I've been treated like shit and am looking for a New job.
It will take the stress off collegues, perhaps as a goodbye gift when I leave I'll put it on a thumb drive and give it if I feel bad.2 -
I hate it when my laptop / phone tells me I don't have permission or admin acessvto do anything..😔😔😞..I feel like I own u mann c'mon..12

I feel like I know typescript a lot better than JavaScript... Is that strange? 😂
I mean after studying languages like C#, I feel like JavaScript is so random, I feel like it has no structure and that I don't know how to code in JavaScript. However when I start using typescript I just feel like I can understand what I am doing on another level. I would like to learn JS more in depth, anyone that has any tips?1 -
Saw this quote and I felt like maybe it is not just me that needs to see this today :)
“Don't let perfection become procrastination. Do it now.” - Danielle LaPorte1 -
My wife gave me an iPhone for Christmas. The last one I had was the 4. As soon as it connected to my computer and I answered the first call from it. I don't know, I fell in love. Mind you, I don't want the Apple Watch. I have an amazfit neo and I like it that way.6

I'm reading "A class-based reflective minimal kernel"
https://books.pharo.org/booklet-Ref...
... do you ever get the feeling like you understand something perfectly and don't really understand it, at the same time? what does it mean?
i can even rougly imagine how this would be implemented on assembly level, but it still feels like... i don't know. it seems too straightforward and simple, i guess, so i suspect i'm not understanding it properly, since it can't be that simple...?8 -
I don't know why but here, in iran, everybody use Hungarian notation? Like strName or txtFirstName.
I think its silly and i hate it. is it common everywhere?5 -
instagrams "based on likes" is total bullshit, I don't like shit those suggestions like but if you scroll through your contacts you'll find those suggestions. Why not just say it like it is: "from your contacts or from your friends contacts"3
-
I don't get it
why is it that people still use FTP?
Like, in current, fairly recent (2018) projects, for public downloads.
I get that when you're just hosting public files without any authentication you don't need to worry about the unencrypted passwords, but like
the random ports are a shitty and annoying practice and also http exists just let your custom patcher program download the release from github where it's already available21 -
When my electrician uncle does some work for me for free it feels like he is a good person. When I do work for family for free I feel like an idiot (only since a year or two). Hustle culture can really mess with your values even if you don't notice it.2

So I'm about to graduate in a few days. What should I do now with the freedom I have now? I'm 21 years old. Should I work in a small startup to learn new things or a big company as my first job? I would also like to work as a freelancer. What do you guys suggest? I would like to spend my time wisely, but I don't want to get stuck in a job I don't like... I'm just trying to figure it all out..9
-
I really don't balance social and dev life. I know I need some time to socialize but I just can't. It's like my life right now is in front of a computer and lines of code... Not that I don't like it, but I know I need to do other stuff besides coding, but I really don't know what to do and how to manage time. If anyone can give some advice, it would be great.2
-
can anyone recommend a nice c++ ide on linux?
I've tried eclipse, but it's a bit bulky and I don't like it's makefile set up.
I do like geany, but I would like autocomplete on it :P8 -
What JS framework you don't like but you were forced to study it due to job requirements? I like vue but there are only few job postings that require it. Most jobs here are angular and react. I know angular now and currently learning react because of job requirement reasons hehe!😄3

Yeah, I have some friends, but none of them appreciates Yeoman like I do.
Fuck, they don't even know what it is. 😡😡😡1 -
I'm not lazy. If you want me to build you a typeface - I'll learn how to do it... and I'll do it ~ but when I get files like this... my brain just goes blank. I don't even know how to rename these. Even if I automate it... I don't know what any of them are. : /3

me: Mum, Dad I want to a developer like [my older brother's name]
mum: I don't know what you guys do anyway. just make sure to be the best at it.
dad: Good luck, don't forget to start your own company soon enough. -
Rant about fellow devRanters: don't you ever get tired arguing about which phone/operating system/brand is better? I don't give a fucking shit. It's exhausting reading the same shit every week. We get it, everyone has to like what you like. 🙄4

Why do i have to spend a lot of time coding front end ? I just hate it, don't get me wrong i like coding but front end doesn't make me feel like coding 😟😟😟5

Is it normal that I have to first study like 2 or 3 days before I can start to code something I don't know very well? My mentor probably thinks I don't know anything. Whatever... I need to implement JWT and I need time to study because I find it complex.2
-
I don't. I could've been a writer or a physicist for all I know. But when we started programming in high school I realised that I like doing it and I'm a quick learner with an affinity to maths so it felt relevant.

I don't like windows since it's proprietary and insecure, but dual boot it for games and never had problems with windows update.3

!rant does anyone know what sustainable computing is? I googled it but I don't think I understand much..like, if I took this as my major for uni then what will my potential careers be like? Is it a better choice then software engineering? 😕😕😕3

I really don't like, when I open instagram, that it takes me tothe top, when I am viewing a pretty image! It really infuriates me when apps does that! Let me control where I scroll, and don't take me to the top just because I opened you!

I don't have any bright skills in IT so if u want to success , don't try to learn everything :| Don't be like me...1

Why my friend learns new languages: will it get me a higher salary?
Why I learn new languages: work isn't challenging, I don't have any side projects, don't feel like binging anime...
Just started learning Scala to once again try to pick up FP paradigm.
I'm also thinking it may be better for understanding algorithms?
Yes I know I'm late to the party -
Ugh... I don't like how TCP is a stream protocol and how UDP is unreliable and unordered.
I want a semi-reliable, ordered, message protocol dang it!13 -

I still don't know what back-end vs front-end is. I have a hard time understanding terms like that when it comes to programming jobs; I just like to program. Could anyone help explain these to me and give examples?8

Any advice for finding a remote job? I don't *need* a new job, but I'd like one, and I'd like it to be remote because I live in the middle of nowhere and don't want to move.
I occasionally work from home, but the biggest problem I face is when asked, "have you ever worked remote before? working from home isn't the same..."3 -
An I the only one who gets scared when a piece of code break. Like I feel like a bad little kid like omg I broke it please don't look I'm sorry please I didn't mean I'm so sorry

It's common belief that developers don't like people and they(we!) prefer to stay away from people and social situations.
So I was wondering how true is it?2 -
I like making money, I just don't like the bullshit administration that goes along with it. Maintaining letters can be so annoying. Salary letters, insurance letters, bs e-mails I don't care about, bla, bla and bla.
How about: I just don't give a fuck? Yeah. I only care about the money, not about all the extra shit. -
I know devrant is not the place to ask this but I didn't know what else to do....I very often have doubts about weather I like programming or not even when I started learning programming 2 years ago...Does this imply that I don't really like it? Because I believe that if you really like something than you don't have doubts about it but am not sure if I am correct or not.8

Asked to map the old database into a diagram. Looks like someone threw up spaghetti. It is so full of tables named "obsolete" I don't understand!

Does anyone have a really nice coffee shop in your city that opens in dawn time? I was looking for something like this in my city and I didn't find. Now I don't know if something like this is possible or it is just a dream.6

It's not often that I yell, or even write in all caps. And it would be very nice to be able to write in red, all caps, bold text but there's something that I would really like to say, or rather yell, to || at my systems development teacher (and a bunch of other people), and it's this:
STOP BEING SO FUCKING VAGUE ABOUT SHIT THAT YOU SHOULDN'T BE VAGUE ABOUT SHIT. I'm really really really really really really tired of listening to "probably" and "maybe" and "there's a chance that" about shit where those words shouldn't be applicable. I don't really wanna hear about what the C# compiler probably does (with like 2 different suggestions) and I don't wanna hear about what laws there might be in place and possibly and probably and oh god just stop -
Let's be real a second, hiDPI and multiple DPI display support on GNU/Linux (xorg) sucks.
It apparently has better support through Wayland but I hate gnome3 (does KDE implements Wayland? don't really care I don't like it too, way too heavy)2 -
Has anyone an idea how to make a Microsoft Surface Pro more "interesting"? Got one this week but I really don't like Windows. But I do like the ability to draw and write on it...7

So in my short time as a software developer I find myself that I sometimes get bored working (I feel like I'm doing the same thing from 9 to 5 everyday) don't get me wrong I like my job a lot but sometimes I feel like it's not satisfactory.
Do you get bored like this? And what do you do to keep it exciting for you (Don't go into money please I don't think it's the reason for happiness)1 -
I just realized that my collegues don't like my new mechanical keyboard, while I like it very much. I told them that it's not that noisy, it's only a different sound. I demonstrated that typing on a not mechanical keyboard with brute force! Now they like it.

So... I have to learn reactJS for work. (Their entire frontend is built upon it) but I am really struggling through my first week. I feel like I don't understand it at all. Unlike angular where I feel like I picked it up pretty quick. Any ideas?2

What's the big issue with MS acquiring GitHub?
Like, really? What's the big deal with it?

About the devRant podcast... Why they don't have a feed (I know you put it in many "funny places" like Google play, iTunes, but I like to use WeCast to listen to my podcasts...2

I don't have many friends. I don't know if I need them or not. I feel like I should be focusing on my works rather than making friends or talking to people. But I don't if it will work4

"Why our email is filtered to promotions tab in gmail?" Bro, it's working as intended, bro. I know you don't like it, but it do be like that sometimes. Also, you have almost 50% open rate, stop complaining.1

Calling out to all frontend devs:
What's your opinion on CSS in JS (e.g. styled-components)?
I really like the encapsulation and the ease of use but I don't like how it makes debugging more difficult.1 -

If you're not truly interested in it.
I don't like math, sitting or a lot of reading but my interest in programming gradually increased overtime. -
I don't like coding, but this machine is too stupid to read from my brain. So I have to type to make it so what I want.

I don't get it, why having more than one decorator looks "weird"? that's idiomatic Python AFAIK, that's sounds more like nitpicking on aesthetics :/1

I need to have a hosting company upgrade the Debian OS install on a VPS. But I also need to know things like what MySQL or Perl modules were added to the server by other admins prior to me outside the /home directory. I don't have any documentation on it at all. If I don't preserve custom stuff like that, it could result in a dead website. Anyone got any tricks for figuring out what was added and when?5

I don't know why, but even though I have years of experience doing agile both in school and at work, I seem to have a hard time adjusting to the agile work method because I always seem to want to do waterfall.
I don't like the stress of having to rush out a product, nor do I like working on an unknown piece of software (framework/library) without knowing it fully; it just itches me and I get obsessive.
I don't like creating just a piece of functionality and rush it out the door, but I rather like doing it in an R&D type way where I get years to finish a product that I slowly work on, like a modern-age philosopher and scientist.
I know there are companies out there that have this approach, but sadly most of them are agile 'cause they all wanna be cool.. LoL
I'm an old mind in a modern world..2 -
Please don't use Google as a verb.
1. It is not the only search engine
2. I don't like Google as a verb
3. I don't like Google as a company
4. We have a dedicated word for it in english, called "WebSearch" or simply "Search". -
For weeks the excitement had been going about the Eclipse, I guess because they don't know what it is like... I had the luck for one project, I don't think I want to see it again... 😧🙃😏

Most of my team works on a per-hour basis, I work on a fixed, monthly wage. They don't get it. If I work overtime, the customer gets billed, I don't get paid. No, I don't like working overtime.

Any thoughts about bootstrap studio? I don't think I like it. Purchased and played around with it for a little bit and it just doesn't seem like a good tool.3

if you need to make XML documentation comments in Visual Studio 2019 and you don't feel like doing it (like me), I recommend this little extension: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/...1

I kind of feel like I type faster when I use Windows than Linux.
Don't know whether it is because I type code on Linux and !code on Windows1 -
Area of focus: Tooling
Why?: Because I don't like to work on big projects. It is fun to create tools from scratch by myself -
I'm thinking to buy an android phone, as a secondary device(iPhone primary), I would like to install Kali, don't care about cam specs, would like it to be cheap but not painfully slow. any suggestions?5

Are there any services that will compile your apps for iOS? I mean if you don't have an Apple computer yourself. If I use something like react native I could only compile it for android.6
