There should be a communist programming language.
- There are no classes.
- There is no inheritance.
- All code is executed simultaneously, since it's equal.
- All variables are global, since everything belongs to everyone
- There are no private functions
- Every function must have side effects, for the 'greater good'
- As soon as it is written, you no longer own the code
- Instead the code owns you
- And your machine
I slowly get why this thing didn't work out on society either.9 -
Mail from client: There is a bug in project.
Me: mmmmkay where is it?
Client: How shitty developer you are! You should find it.

Google searching should be a school subject. There is so much people that dont know how to use it13

Hope it's not a repost but this is brilliant... although putting it up in my office wouldnt change anything. Password123 was there before me and it'll be there after me.8

Yes Autodesk, I am fully fucking aware of the fact that it is not made for Linux but for what reason do you feel the need to block me from downloading it?! You know, there is Wine and there are also VMs... fucking pricks
And then they even start mixing languages 👏15 -
The iPhone X is in Germany so expensive that it would be cheaper to fly to the U.S. stay there for one or two days and buy it there.25
-
It displays a -1 whenever it is not working. There is no basement.
Reminds me of some configuration files.7 -
My boss: it hasn't been done yet?
Me: I'm not sure about the way to do it...
My boss: It is THAT tricky?
Me: no, I know a bunch of ways to do it, but is there a better one...3 -
When everyone is complaining about how terrible JavaScript is and I'm just sitting there thinking "but... I like it.."9
-
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "MINI APP" AND NO, JUST BECAUSE YOU THREW A "MINI" IN FRONT OF IT, IT DOESN'T MAKE IT ANY EASIER TO DEVELOP3
-
I swear down.
There is a developer out there. His one mission to break something in such a way that it only falls over at 1AM.
I hate that guy.4 -
Overheard this conversation today:
1: look at this! My shiny new iPhone can measure stuff!
2: how accurate is it?
1: not very, it is pretty buggy.
2: how did the bugs get in there?
3: it is an apple so4 -
Are there any other people out there who like JavaScript? It is my favorite language but I only see rants calling it a shitty language14

A: man Stack Overflow is a paradise on earth, anything I need is on there, it never lets me down.

There is only one important rule to live by:
Never lend anyone your 256 GB USB-C/USB-B combo memory stick. There is a 100% scientifically-backed certainty that you will never, in your meager existence, see it again.11 -
"There are two ways of constructing a software design; one way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult." - C. A. R. Hoare
-
So yeah. There is some problem on production. I'm working on it for over a day, and can't make it work. The bad method is 500 lines. The method that calls it is almost 1000 lines and its class is 5k. This is the second one. FML :(16

Objective c is the ugliest most esoteric programming language there is and it has no place in modern development.6

There is a hole in the world like a great black pit and it is filled with people who developed Eclipse.3

There is a function for creating random numbers.
So with the same inputs , I must get the same output.
So it is somewhat predictable.
So it is not actually random!
Am I tight?20 -

Is it just me or does being a programmer sometimes feel like being a magician. It's such a weird profession. You're living in a bubble, nothing you create is physically tangible, yet anything is possible, and there is always more learn.
Most of the time it's art. Commenting out dead or obsolete code instead of removing it just because it feels like you put a little bit of yourself into it, even though it has no use anymore.
I sometimes wonder if there is any other profession out there that makes you ride the same rollercoaster of satisfaction, frustration, glory and defeat we've all been on.3 -
Rule 34.
"If it exists, there is porn of it. No exceptions." Rule 34 (novel), by Charles Stross
Same thing applies to npm modules.17 -
At work:
Why is there no refresh when we submit data into the tables?
Me: there is, but there is no page refresh, as it should be.
Them: but how do we know if the data is being added?
Me: well you can see it in the table right? Look there is even a small message over here **points at message** that indicates the entry code and position.
Them: yeah but how can we tell? Can you make it to where there is a page refresh?
Me:12 -
DevOps is like working in sanitation. If everything works as it should, no one cares about you. But if there is a problem, everyone is up to their eyeballs in shit, and it is your fault.
Same as IT btw.3 -
My boss: "We need this feature by Friday"
Me: "I can make it work, but I need more time to do it properly"
Boss: "Just fix it by Friday, and you can make a proper implementation later, when there is time"
Like there will ever be time once it works...3 -
"No matter how cool your interface is, it would be better if there were less of it." - Alan Cooper1

My Friend: putt all the code into one huge file

Friend: go fix it by yourself

Friend: Don't know

English is weird.
Take the double oo for example.
There are so many different pronunciations for it and there seems to be no rules whatsoever.

Is it normal that I get really excited when I see a new VS Code update or there is something wrong with me?13
-
I feel lonely on my way back to home. I am a bit depressed while listening to the song "Alone" by Alan Walker. Because I code alone all day and I am single. There is a shop in my neighbourhood. It has its light turned on this night, perhaps just to increase its exposure. But, there is something so shiny that caught my attention. It is a smiling duck. I don't know what the duck is doing right there. I havent seen it before. But the shop is closed now.
At this moment, I realize it could be my friend when I don't have a friend.4 -

I have a rule made by myself. I call it "550 line".
If a class have more than 500 or a method more than 50 line, something is wrong.
(Is there any better rule? Tell if there is some)7 -
"Coding is free dude, why are you charging me for that when I can just use Google to copy-paste code from there and there, boy.. think about it"

There is this abstract class with a single public method in it.
Above it a comment, change back to protected ASAP.

There is an error in almost every file, and yet this seems to work
On other days there is not even a single error and still it cracks.
Android Studio, you need to watch your drinking habits -_-8 -
You know that, there is an app which stops the windows automatic updates, it is called linux kernel. But it goes beyond that, I have fixed mac os issues with that as well. Love it3

Is there a specific reason your company is called 'Hexical Labs'? If so, could you share the story of where it comes from?2

It is ridiculous how many javascript frameworks out there. Just combine any nounce + JS, I guarantee you, there is Github repo existed already!2

This planet is lame. Apparently there is a company called “Microsoft” that is not micro by any means, and it even sells hardware. Unacceptable.5

Open source mail server?

Also it is better if it has a docker image13 -
This formula from Gödel's incompleteness theorem. It basically says there is no hope to ever know if your program is correct ... 😁

What is this RGB trend in PC's. I hate it. Why can't it be just a normal black pc. Is there any use to it?
My SSD thermal-throttled due to rgb lights.15 -
There is a constructed language called Tokipona. It was made to be the easiest language, and it only contains like 137 words or so.
This language is a perfect demonstration of “expressivity”. Tokipona is not very expressive. Before you know it, your sentence is obscenely long, and you didn't even convey the full meaning of what you wanted to say.
It's also the case with “easy” programming languages and frameworks. Code quantities rise exponentially, and the more code you have, the more bugs there are. There is no magic. And then you have to debug it. Not so easy, huh?9 -
My newest BASH project: reactive BASH
:)
Yes, I do like shell THAT much!
Since today my bhttp lib supports STOMP [still need to work on 1.2 compliance], i.e. I can carry out live communication with MQ. Meaning I can script the whole thing, be it 5 calls 5 reads, be it 20 subscriptions and reacting to unlimited number of messages in either of them with separate actions. WITHOUT A FOREST OF IF-ELSEs OR CASE-ESACs!!!
Boi do I love shell scripting... :D
Next project: AI in BASH3 -

What is debugging an application?
Sticking in it for hours, for fixing the error. Finally when it is done, you find it is already there in SO :/.

There is this docker guy in our enterprise.
Always, he is told there is a challenge in software operations, he brings up the solution "move it into a docker container and the challenge won‘t be a challenge anymore".
........
Don‘t get me wrong.
I love to use docker as a technology to host my apps.
But for me it is not the golden hammer technology which cures all dread diseases on this planet.
Sometimes it is just overhead for the solution of small challenges.2 -
There is how you think a system works, and there is how it actually works. Unit tests help keep those two ideas in sync with each other7

There are few developer who name their functions all wrong, but the functionality is fine. Then there comes those who name their functions right but the functionality is nothing close to what it says. There is this function I debugged. It's name is optimizeQuery. It does not optimize the query at all. Rather dismantles it. Also it made it's way to the production. 😅 Now I have to correct and optimize the optimizeQuery.4

Recently GitHub announced it is gonna preserve the world's open source code for next 1000 years. Great initiative! But someone has to take initiative to store StackOverflow data too! What if after 500 years someone tries to use Tensorflow and gets dimensionality issues? And imagine there won't be any StackOverflow to solve the issue.
Remember : Wherever there is a code, there is a bug.1 -

Oh! no There is more than 10 level of nesting conditions in if else statements. I can not refactor it but It needs to add more nest there. I will only add switch statements or ternary operator for the deeper nesting conditions.4

Why is there such a huge disconnect between the way people talk about work on LinkedIn and what it actually entails? All jobs come down to selling your time to stave off homelessness and hunger, and they all pretend there is something enjoyable in it, even for the lowest paid people. Salaries no longer buy us housing anyway. There is no point in any of this anymore apart from pure survival. Why do these idiots pretend their job is somehow different? It's not.7

So, after day 3 of Rust programming I have an observation to make:
Rust package management (and conflicts that arise) is not very good.
To the rusters out there, am I wrong? Is there something to make it better?19 -

What is with IT and their obsession with error messages?
"If there is no error message, I cannot help"
Your not going to get an error message because the problem is VPN is messing up my DNS due to tunneling. There is no error other than me not having Internet if VPN disconnects unless I reboot.2 -
Suppose I make an app. Suppose it becomes popular worldwide. How can I protect its name, logo, etc worldwide? Is there some international registry or smth...? For instance is there any law restricting me from creating my own app, calling it Facebook, drawing a white lowercase F in blue rectangle as its logo and releasing it to the public?17

Has to fix a bug in our old products web interface, how did I ever put up with it. In some places it has 7 nested iframes. It is also some of the worst code I have ever seen, no user input is sanitised plus there is no structure to the code, try looking for a CDs element without going into chrome dev tools is impossible as there are 52 separate CSS files1

There is a element in mappView that lets you display a specific image from a list based on a index. It has the parameters selectedImageIndex and selectedIndex. One is used to set the other to read. Its not like that you need RW separation. Its done with variable binding. So why the FUCK is it there????2

Is there an AI that generates malware already?
No sarcasm, I really wonder it there is already a model that finds exploits and makes rootkits or something.
It could make red teams obsolete.5 -
There is something off with the M1 MacBook. I can’t pinpoint but there is definitely something different about the experience. Not necessarily in a positive way. The interaction feels lacking of certain things. Don’t know. It is what it is.
What I can point out is that the notification functionality is definitely a little off. Could be Monterey’s fault.7 -
So, I made this API which logins to the system and Used it in an android app, there was one roadblock to it, that everytime user enters a password, it has to match the password hash so I, excitingly, used password_verify($password,$passwordHash), unknowingly that it is fucking unsafe and the code is still there, and here's where it gets interesting it is not over SSL/TLS. Fuck me, any bright solutions?27

What is your go to platform to publicly share your git repos? Obviously GitHub is the most popular, but I wonder if there are other platforms that are widely used in the same fashion.
What prevents you from using GitLab or anything else? Is it just Github's popularity or are there features that only GitHub has that keep you to it?14 -
Today I read a blog about React Native, and I was amazed to see that Facebook, Instagram, Airbnb uses this.

What are your thoughts on it?6 -
I like my job, but I will happily admit there is always something better out there, though it will be hard to find, which is fine with me. To assist with this, I made a form response for recruiters:
Is it a contract?
Is the budget for the role less than XXX a year?
Is it located in a suburban place with limited or nonexistent transit access?
If any answers are yes, I am not interested.1 -

There is normal to have an unexpected exception in a life.
If you learn to code, you know thats why there is try/catch exist, so when you try something and there is an exception you know how to pass it.
Why? So whenever something goes unexpected from your expectation you already have an exception for it and just pass it rather than making your entire mind crashing!24 -

Linux package management is dumb for one simple reason: it is too complicated for its own good. There are too many different approaches and even within one approach there might be multiple repositories.
Is bad.13 -
I find it funny how if a programmer has a problem, she/he makes a solution.
This is probably why there aren't as many other communities as there are developer communities. -
Is there anyone out there who uses absolutely everything JIRA has to offer? I've worked with it since starting my career and I still find it a massive fucking overkill.

So I’m going through a CKAD course. There is a section about checking the status of our Pods or the application running in it through Readiness/Liveness Probes— they mostly use an HTTP test, but there is a TCP option as well. My question is, how will the TCP test work on HTTP/2 given that it does not have TCP (it rather uses QUIC)? Sorry if this is a dumb question.1

Is it actually viable to become specialized in analyzing and optimalizing C# code? Like is there a market for that? Even if it is just other people being too lazy to do it.🤔8

It feels like there is a rule of the internet that any code snippet visible is immediately subject to review by the comments.1

I find it very surprising that people at work are always reluctant to do code reviews. There are no standards in place and everyone is free to push whatever they want. There is Sonar but it doesn't catch bad logic. Don't know how are we going to deal with this technical debt.4

DevRant is the only place where people can rant there way through to reach top upvote receiver.

As I am coming from XAML, I wonder if it is possible to make multipage, fluent and modern UI in C++ easily. Not necessarily easily, but it shouldn't be as creating an OS.

Tool question, I can't find any after some googling. But are there any tools out there for dotnet that help you find class, method, and property references outside a solution.
Say I have a bunch of solutions and I need to know where a class is referenced to determine whether or not I can deprecate it. Is there anything out there that would scan other solutions for references to that class?8 -

The requestor have responsibility for the conditions under which their request will be fulfilled. There is no "do your magic". The magic is always "ours" to some extent.
Details, directions, focus, clear goal, you name it, there is a shit ton of ways the requestor participates in the success.3 -
