So I just got rejected for a job for being too introverted.
They were very impressed with my advanced and broad technical knowledge but they said I'm "too introverted to hang out with cool, young people". That's ageism and that's illegal. Anyway.
I have more knowledge than most senior specialist devs (I've worked with them and I know them) but just because I'm a reserved and thinking person, I'm not welcome in this society of idiots and I don't get a job.

The best I have seen and exploited was years ago with a web shop that allowed me to set my own check-out price by just inspecting the element and setting the desired price. My last special snowflakes teacher story. This happend last Friday.
Background: we had to do a "little" project in less than 2 weeks (i ranted about that) and got our degree on Friday. I did a perfectly fine meal suggester, with in my opinion one of the best codes i've ever written.
After getting my degree (which is totally fine and qualifies me as IT technician/ "staatlich geprüfte Informationstechnische Assistentin") i asked him what my grade for the project was.
Me: what was my grade for the project again?
Him: i left it at 90%
Me: why exactly? You seemed to be really excited and liked it obviously. And there was no critique from you after my presentation.
Him: yadda yadda. I can't give you more. Yadda yadda be happy i didn't lower your grade.
Me: why would you lower my grade? This doesn't make sense at all. I matched all your criteria. You wanted a program everyone loved, everyone wanted to buy. There you go. I made exactly that.
Him: i can't give you a 1 (equals an A)
Me: why not?
Him: you wrote to much. I didn't want so much (he never specified a maximum). And you used to advanced code. And there were so many lists and ref - methods. The class couldn't benefit from it.
Me: Excuse me!? The only "advanced code" i used was a sqlite library. And i explained what i did with that. What do you mean by "so many lists" and ref-menthodes. In which methodes am i using ref?
Him: I don't know, i just skimmed through the code.
Me, internal: WHAT THE FUCKING HELL!?
Me: so you are telling me, you didn't even read my code fully and think it is too advanced for the class? And because of that you give a 2 (equals a B)?

I did a job interview recently for a company and the test was something like this.
In ruby, write a web server that will serve a specific line number from a text file.
I thought up a simple solution and a more advanced solution, but I opted to go with the simple solution and submit my work quickly. I made a nice web server with tests and everything and it used the sed command to get the line number from the file.
Now, they had various instructions, like it had to perform. They asked how it'd perform with 10G, 100G files. I thought "Eh... it'll be alright."
The solution they were looking for was the "advanced" solution that I thought up, which involved storing a binary file of 32/64 bit integers that reference the byte-offset of the line they're looking for. Basically a binary index file.
This violates all of my sensibilities, because I would never build a database indexer like this using ruby, of all things.
I thought it was a stupid test, and how do these companies honestly expect me to spend hours coding and then tell me I didn't go far enough? It's unethical.
I actually followed-up with the "advanced" solution a couple hours after hearing I was out, just to show them that their process is flawed.2 -

I did what is said in android developers but the app stops receiving data after 12600 frames without any error or exception thrown.
The data is sent with sample rate 2000.

Software engineering gets more diverse every year with problems ranging from faking 3d shadows on 2d browsers to accurately mimicking chemical bonds on the electron level.
I guess we primarily will get advanced tools, to make more complex problems easier to tackle. Just compare manual punch card piercing pliers to the JetBrains tool chain.
Also I believe that the roles that developers embody will get even more diverse, people will have way more specific functions in their ecosystem.5 -

Had to implement a search feature for a client so I did and told him to check it out (it was a LIKE SQL statement)
He tested it out by typing in iPhone and Phone (there was an item called iphone in the database) and he was amazed about the fact it worked for some reason.
A real answer from him:
"it's working.. how is it working?

I said it's just a text search but I guess I should've said I'm using an advanced AI to extract all possible terms related to the item title.1 -

I got in trouble for refactoring code to be modular. They said “thats too complicated the maintenance team”.
Said coworker produced a kludge of copy pasted code so the dumb ass maintenance team could understand it.
tldr; interfaces and abstract classes are too advanced for our employees so make the codebase shitty on purpose.3 -

Everytime I hear the word 'coding' or 'code' in regard to programming, I get a twitch of annoyance in my brain. Seriously, that word is so overused that it's now cliche to me. And it does nothing to distinguish the kind of language someone is using. Is a software engineer solving an advanced problem using C or is it some newby who only knows HTML? Please stop saying thing like, 'i know how to code' when all you know it's HTML. Be specific, you're not fooling anyone. Also, please, don't use that phrase if you're an advanced software engineer either. You're better than that.18

Just made a proof of concept expression templates based linear algebra library for my own projects. It was actually a lot of fun to make, and seeing it spit out optimized, loop-fused code with no temporary variables...magic.

I started accidentally. My (first) boss asked me if I knew MS Access. I bluff and said yes, of course.
Then one time I needed a somewhat more advanced macro and started with VBA. My addiction began to grow.
After that I discovered VB.NET
Began programming with AutoCAD. Switched to C#.

Yesterday I got stoned as never before with a few friends of mine. I don't remember everything, but appearantly I coded a neural network using synaptic.js that teaches itself addition. That's impressive because it's my first NN ever.
Also, my friends are pissed now, because I was on my laptop the whole time doing "some advanced IT stuff".2 -

OBS is advertised as the expert's screen recording and streaming tool, every list on the internet makes it out to be some incredibly difficult program not recommended for newbies.
It's also the only linux screen recorder that works out of the box on Pipewire, records both microphone and system sounds and all configuration was to
1. select recording as my main use case in the setup wizard which is a very verbose English popup, then accept all defaults
2. add a new source, following the instructions written in the box which are also the only instructions on screen after application launch
3. set the output directory (optional) by going to File > Settings > Output > Recording Path, all of which were the first items I guessed. If I had not done this, it would've written everything to my home folder which is a bit dumb but not confusing at all
4. click Start Recording
5. click Stop Recording when done
Some newbie-oriented screen recorders have a more complicated setup procedure than this super advanced experts' tool don't touch without safety gloves and a degree in video engineering.11 -

Today, I found there "Software engineering bundle" designated for "software developers and data scientists who require advanced compute and data processing tools".
The software bundle contains PuTTY, 7-zip and Notepad++.6 -
Read "How to implement a programming language" (http://lisperator.net/pltut) and it was very cool and enlightening. I have decided to use what I learned to make a math evaluator with a proper lexer and extensible library and stuff like that. Not a full programming language but a nice and advanced math evaluator.10

In a class i attended we learned about advanced image synthesis and had to write OpenGL in the exercises.

The project which I took over from the previous team had exactly 1576 usages of an operator which I've never seen before after 10+ years of working in PHP.
Curiosity lead me to the php.net site to see what kind of advanced magic this operator does - only to discover that it's an error suppressing operator (@). They've simply used it as a default method for solving bugs and removing errors from the logs.4 -

"I already know java I don't need to go to class *miss surprise quiz and class work*" <- me in csc 101 and 102 (retook both). When reading a new programming book I always go through the "who this book is for" and if they say it is not for beginners I get nervous even if I bought said book because it is supposed to be on an advanced level.
Don't know if I am being modest or just plain stupid.
I blame starting up with C and C++. Their "advanced" level shit is way different from what you find on your average web development book.

A swedish insurance company has two different solution for logging in to their system.
1. An advanced high security single sign on solution involving active directory, verification of the network the request came from etc etc.
2. Using a link and passing your credentials in the query string!!! Like: insurancecompany.com?username=admin&password=password.

IPAY88 is the worst payment integration. They parse html data and encoded it into xml for return the data, it is not even singlet or server to server communication , tey called it the ADVANCED BACKEND SYSTEM (My arse!) So, I've been wanting to learn C++ for a couple months now - decided to get a good book yesterday (Professional C++ 3rd Edition) on the language to help guide me through the more advanced concepts.
Fast forward today and I'm having a blast! Still uncomfortable with the syntax but I'll get used to that over time.

Another small 100 page or so book.
It’s called advanced programming techniques, personally I don’t like the title, I don’t consider most of the items in here advanced, I would consider them more “better ways of solving a problem”, they do talk about recursion and linked lists, so I guess that could be a little advanced.
But like table based solutions is not advanced it’s just a technique that allows for simpler, scale able and main table code.. I been doing it for a long time, most easiest way to determine if something can turn into a table solution is look for a function that has a bunch of calls to the same function or something of that nature lots of repeated code with slight changes in a function or range of functions .. those of simplist way of “tablefiying”a solution I will picture the example from the book below.
The book, is all in java except for linked lists Thats in C..
But anyway this book is a great quick reference book, into the pile with programming pearls book, and those like that.14 -
Wireguard reminds me of ssh. You exchange keys and start using the thing.
You protect client by limiting IPs that can access it and you protect server by listing IPs that can connect + iptables for more advanced access rules.
And the whole thing runs on UDP and in kernelspace, so it's fast AF
iperf3 tests compared to OpenVPN look amazing: x20 times faster than OpenVPN :D

I am beyond pissed at my Machine Learning class in college. you would think an advanced topic in Computer Science would require some prior knowledge of the field, but apparently not. Do they simply check your fb? simple google search your name? advanced queries with multiple search engines? data gathering software like maltego? or really check and link leaked db dumps and pastebins?
If anyone has any knowledge or experience with this I would love to hear.

A customer once wanted buttons that would close the mask in an interface where the only way to close the mask was to click a default "OK" button. 🤔
So in the end we implemented a script on the customer's buttons that would send a calculated number of multiple keypresses of tab, tab, tab and finally enter on the default button. 🤑
It is still running in production and I will never ever touch it again! 😁 -

How I knew programming was for me?
In high school, the special education teacher who was assigned to teach the 'Computer' class. He taught us (maybe 5 of us in the class) Basic on Apple IIe and using various apps (word processing, database, spreadsheet). One day he brought in his personal Macintosh and showed how one could write code 'underneath' clicks to perform operations. Using Pascal, I popped up messages, made beeping sounds, etc. Blew my mind.
Seeing my and other's interest, he got the board to approve a 'Advanced Comp' class for the next semester.
First day, the room was packed.
Teacher: "Raise of hands, who thinks this class is 'Advanced Composition'?"
<most of the room raises their hands>
Teacher: "That's Mr. Early's class. This is Advanced Computers. You're welcome to stay, but we're going to be writing programs and learning other computer related topics"
Next day, the class was just me. I knew then I wanted to do this the rest of my life.

I started an e2e encrypted Dropbox clone, meaning file names and contents get encrypted client side prior to uploading. It also has a fairly advanced system for sharing links to files etc. But I got stuck at PDF previews which can't be generated on the server cause the file can't be decrypted there and I never finished it.2

When I think my teachers can get any worse after sending me snippets of several Java classes in a single txt, one of them sent me SQL code of a full database dump in a Word document. 8 pages of SQL in its full glory!
I guess using the proper file extension/format or a service like PasteBin or GitHub Gist is way too advanced for them. -
Started learning Android development in Kotlin.
My first impressions:
- Kotlin is good, but class syntax is not very appealing
- Overall it seems to be quite easy, at least the basic stuff
- Android Studio is a fucking memory hog, RIP my RAM
- As good IntelliJ is as bad is Android Studio somehow

Currently my school's Java curriculum has outdated resources and the only modern resource is a poorly written AP Computer Science book that barely scratches the surface of the language. Well, my teacher saw what I'm capable of compared to some of the other students and decided that she wants me to write an entire curriculum for the class. The only thing that bothers me is that there are plenty of online resources that I used to get where I am that she refuses to let the class use because they're "too advanced" and "they won't understand it." Does she understand that I've never written a course before and that my way will probably be more difficult than the tutorials that she calls "too advanced?"

When you live in a less technically advanced country, and everyone cheaps out on their software and hires the company that will do it for the least money and because of that it never works decently you can't reserve movie tickets on the cinema's site and get a SQL constraint error directly on screen, if you can't afford custom software buy a license for something that works out of the box ffs

I was watching an Ancient Aliens episode called "Beyond Roswell". The show described the idea of some of our tech being seeded slowly by introducing alien technology to specific companies. They suggested that computing technology has advanced very fast and introducing this tech could be part of that.
At first I was kinda pissed about this. I have read about the creation of the first transistor back in the 40s or 50s. WWII really advanced our need for computing devices such as what Turing built. Then I realized a lot of the explosion of computer tech did occur after key ET events. This kind of made me wonder how much is "us" and how much is ET tech. I also realized it can take a lot of effort to understand something really advanced. So reverse engineering can take a LOT of effort to figure these things out. Being seeded by external tech does not take away from humans at all.
A parallel to this is a programmer that learns how to use a C++ compiler. They could go their whole career without ever understanding how the compiler itself is doing its job. I find myself wanting to learn how compilers work and started down this path. I look at the simple grammar I have learned to parse. Then I look at the C++ grammar and think "How can I ever learn to do that?" So I see us viewing potentially advanced things and wondering how the heck can we ever learn to do that. The common reaction when faced with such tech would be disbelief and in some cases ridiculing the messenger. When I was a kid the idea of sending a picture over a phone was laughable. Now this is common and expected. It was literally a scifi concept when I was a kid.
So, back to the alien tech. I am now thinking it would be cool to be working with alien technology through computing. This is like scifi stuff now! So what if what we have was not all invented here (Earth). If anything this will prepare us programmers to get jobs working for alien corporations writing ship level programs and brain interfaces. Think of it as intergalactic resume building. 😉 -
Is there something I can check to see where I'm at with my programming knowledge and check back in with so I can kind of understand what I should be learning for a job or more advanced programming? I'm around the point of realization where I need to learn how to read documentation for a framework I think because I'm about tired of just learning a language to the point I can make like a calculator program (trivial coding?). Recently in our school our final year class choice forms are starting to be handed out. 5 lists, you pick one subject from each.
Now, I really wanted Advanced higher computing, to the point where I nearly begged on the survey choice forms. There's two of us that really want it. What happens? IT'S NOT ON THE FINAL FORM.
The only two subjects I could get was engineering and maths. Three of my other lists are completely to say politely, fucking shite. -

I had this problem where google app sign in loads forever. I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem.
So, it turns out theres a param called requestidlecallback in settings, safari, advanced, experimental. It should be off.
If its not off, and your trying to sign in to google on an app, force stop the app, turn it off, then force stop settings, then restart your computer. -

I am a student and I started learning typescript as an advanced project at the recommendation of my teachers because I am a bit ahead of where my software development course is.
I started by testing the logic of types, and then I encountered type: unknown.
According to the TS handbook:
"If you have a variable with an unknown type, you can narrow it to something more specific by doing typeof checks, comparison checks, or more advanced type guards that will be discussed in a later chapter:"
So according to what this says, if you check a variable of type unknown, to equal a certain object type, typescript will allow you to assign that unknown value a I tested this out with a data type - objects and typescript freaks out.
Also, if create object with a property assigned to a function, it won't even show you that property when you console.log the object
