Me: You know what my least favorite programming language is?
Friend: HTML?
Me: No that's not a programming language
Friend: ohh haha I forgot its like Pluto20 -
Somehow every programmer that i met, started programming at age of 8-10
Like wtf were you programming, an alarm clock to watch Spongebob Squarepants?39 -
Kid(age: 17): What kind of programming do you do?
Me: Well, I started writing scripts in Python, but in the last few months I moved to IOS development, so like making apps.
Kid: So you write scripts for phones?
Me: Not exactly—
Kid: Do you know what jailbreaking is?
Me: Yeah.
Kid: So do you jailbreak stuff?
Me: No—
Kid: Oh so you don’t really do programming.
:’(18 -
I was just thinking... The JetBrains devs must enter the office and be like:
"Today I'm gonna program a programming program for others to program, and I'll do it on the programming program I programmed last year."4 -
friend: what are those lines on your screen
me: programming
friend: but like don't you program it
me: yeah but I have to write it
friend: but like don't you have to program the lines
That's when I quit trying to explain it5 -
I'm so fucking done with all those "woke" YouTube programming tutorials like: "Why you should NEVER use else statements", "Why functions should ALWAYS return a value", "Why switch statements are actually EVIL" and stuff like this
I swear to fucking god26 -
What?!?
There is an ^= operator in Java for booleans. I have been programming in Java for 4 years now and never knew this. Like b ^= true will flip b.
Mind blown; this is the greatest thing ever14 -
So I was browsing devrant and a friend asked what all languages do I know? I said, python, c, c++
He looked at me like 😐
Took me a moment to realise he was asking languages not programming languages 😅13 -
In IT-Class:
Random: Ey watcha doin?
Me: Programming. What else?
Random: Oh, you're such a nerd...
Me: Programming is fun! I really like it.
Random: Please don't say this is your hobby...
Me: It is.
Random: Bruuh... *goes away*
Why the fuck are you here, if you're not interested in programming???
I don't understand such people.13 -
I want to marry C#
Seriously, I've never found any other programming language I enjoy the hell out of using quite like C#. If I could, I'd write my game engine in C# instead of C++23 -
Friend: I want to start competitive programming. What should I to ?
Me: You should know at least one programming language like C++ or java ...
Friend: No problem, I know HTML ....
Finally Me: Oh God save me..4 -
Everyone be like "I started programming at the age of 2 and my first ever spoken words were “for...each”".
We get it, child prodigy.
Don't mind me I'm just salty that I only discovered programming after taking the wrong course at uni which coincidentally had an extraneous Fortran module.16 -
I think programming is definitely an art. The biggest difference between programming and other artforms like painting is that you don't want the people who look at your code to wonder what you meant with it. Just my 2 cents.2

I am a professional programming master!
Oh, what language?
Language? English.
What do you use to program?
Scratch, it's like this hacking website4 -
As a programmer, I either feel like I’m a god and I’m superior to everyone in this company OR I am an idiot and everyone knows what they are doing except me.
Programming is an illusion. It’s just a “feeling”. Programming doesn’t exist.11 -
My first programming language was PHP.
When I first approached C I was like "wtf!! Why have I to specify the type"13 -
When I asked my brother why he doesn't want me to teach him programming, his answer was: "Because writing code is dry and boring, like math."
Ok then.6 -
Sometimes I like to go to bookstores to see the Tech/Programming books they have.
However, there aren’t much books as they used to be 💔!
Everybody is learning online I guess 🙇🏻♂️16 -
Me: Taking online course for programming. Think it's not that hard.
PC: Coded programm runs good like in the tutorial.
Me: Wow I can code now.
Just printed "Hello World"4 -
Guy i just met: So you are a programmer??
Me: Yaa, i known a few programming languages.
Guy: So can you like, make games and shit??
Me: ...6 -
Its real.. sometimes I really hate programming when I stuck at some where.. suddenly everything will be ok and then I will feel like , there is nothing better than programming.4
-
— I heard you like programming and are quite good at it.
— Don't know about the latter but I do like it.
— Cool. Can you help me set up this Excel spreadsheet?
Actual conversation I had about two months ago...3 -
I really like programming in Haskell.
Everyone I know seems to hate it (or prefer to work with oo-languages)
Any friendly Haskeller here who wants to collab/teach/learn from each other? ._.'8 -
Programming makes me feel like I am Jack Sparrow I do not completely understand problems, struggle with it and somehow manage to make success out of it ...Ah everyday it's an adventure in the brain1
-
Not a rant: Devrant is the only place where i can write or read programming jokes that do not feel like UDP requests.2

i have a crush on a classmate,
and i feel like she likes me too,
but i'm not sure how to make any move....
i feel like i should quit programming and focus on being a fuckboy...
idk ( ._.)24 -
The worst part about having a job that is not related to programming is that I don't have as much time to code as I would like to :(5
-
I kinda wish they called programming lanuages programming dialects
I feel like im still writing in English, the message I am trying to convey to the computer is the same. To me they all just have different accents and ways about doing things4 -
Sitting in an introduction to C++ class (I've been programming for 5 years but every job wants to see a degree even if it means taking boring intro classes)
I see the professor write code like this....
First: Ever heard of break;
Second: I know it's not wrong to write it like this but ever heard of spaces!!!!!!!14 -
Am I the only one who thinks that with all the scripting languages starting programming becomes to easy and so learning really good programming is getting nearly impossible because every tutorial is made for total n00bs and every forum is full of: hey my hello world programs isn't working?
Ps:I have no problem with people starting programming with languages like c# and python, I think just there are too many people saying that they are programmers just because they wrote hello world.
Pps: sry 4 my English.4 -
Passed my Python programming course with an A!!!! Yes!!!!!!
P.s I want a squishy ball so can 150 of you please like my rant Lmaoo6 -
When you know so many programming languages that you start typing something like:
int i as integer1 -
When someone asks me what is programming, I usually say:
— That's something like assembling Lego, but you also get paid for it.3 -
I have a love and hate relationship with programming. You'll see me as the happiest and most motivated person ever. The next minute, you'll see me as an extremely depressed suicidal person. Then when a code works, I jump like hell.1
-
Sometimes I miss programming, but then I look at my programmer boyfriend's code and I'm like, "Never mind, I'm okay," and I go back to being carefree and happy while he's going grey from the stress. 🙆🏽3

Java
It's my favorite language because I started learning programming in Java when I was in school.
The most annoying thing in Java is I don't feel like writing System.out.println each time.12 -
rant init....
I feel like the programming courses in college don't ready you enough for the outside world 😧 - computer science student.
rant complete....15 -
That annoying co-worker that asks you each and everything about programming and when you tell them, they be like "Oh I already knew that"
WTF Bitch!3 -
Client: I don't know programming. But I think you should make the button more fancy?
Me: ... I am not Harry Potter, don't imagine programming like magic. And you ain't even a programmer...
Daily conversation with our precious client2 -
One of the things I love the most about programming is that sometimes you feel like you're taking a step forward when you're taking a step back... and sometimes you feel like you're taking a step back when you take a step forward.
Or maybe that's just me. XD12 -
I’m pissed because there’s so much I want to do and explore in the programming world but I feel like I’m never going to get around to it.12
-
Coding has actually made my life more social.
Because I taught myself programming, I became a consultant.
I got to meet nice colleagues, customers and managed to become good friends with some of them.
Because of programming, I moved to a big city and I have lived like a f*cking rockstar!2 -
So here I am in class with just two weeks of knowledge in coding and this douchebag level 300 comes in like, 'Hey i'm a hacker and mid tier programmer and i can see you struggling with your basic code can i be of help?'... so I'm like, 'yh man. I'm a transfer biology student and i don't know a sh*t about coding but i have managed to buid a fine website of just two pages but i would also like to try hacking but first what programming languages do you know?' Guess what......the lil f*cker said HTML. I mean I may not know much but i know that can and will never be a programming language.11
-
It has been a loooong time since i have had awesome programming day like today, i've been doing earth simulator kind of game for mobile and lots of its core mechanics are starting to take shape. Still long way to go but it feels great! Days like these remind me why i started programming. I will have to deal with memory management because there will be lots of shit happening on screen not yet sure how to deal with that in corona sdk. Sorry for good feels.11
-
Wow I can't believe how well this infographic nailed it.... I feel a bit naked like it read my soul...😮

Friend :- so you went so deep into programming.
Me :- yeah but not too far.
Friend :- can you fix my laptop infected by virus?
*handing me his lapi*
Me :- of course. is your windows is original?
He :- yaa!! I mean you know I like original not like your pc.
Me :- *deleted win 32 file *2 -
I started thinking and worrying about numbers much more than before
in the US, you write numbers like this:
1,000.00
in Germany usually like this:
1.000,00
and in programming languages like this:
1000.00
now i wonder how to type a number, whenever i have to use german software
should i use the US way, the german way or the dev way? the wrong one could possibly break it11 -
I’m new to programming. I first learned G-Code and M-Code for CNC machines and being a machinist got boring, so now I’m in School for computer science. But I swear, the amount of motherfuckers that act like they are the programming gods and they know everything there is to know just because they’ve been a programmer for so and so amount of years just grinds my gears. They act like some knowledge is important while other knowledge is useless, and generalize it and push that belief on everyone. But fail to realize that some people, such as myself, just love computers in every facet. I don’t give a damn how many years of programming experience you have and how many people you’ve taught. If you act like a stuck up know it all and walk around like your shit don’t stink, I wouldn’t work with you even if I had the same amount of experience as you.35
-
I remember when I was just a child, 6 or 7 I think, my uncle bought a computer and it was a magical thing for me.
When I became a little familiar with it, I told my dad: "I really like to make programs for computer".
And I still like programming.1 -
I really miss putting on some headphones and getting shit done while listening to some rock.
I like pair programming, but doing it all the time is starting to feel exhausting. I need some "me" time, ya know?2 -
Got error: I am such a noob programmer, dumb, I hate my life, I hate programming... *cries like a kid*
Error fixed: I am God!2 -
So a recruiter called me for the Mobile App Dev position just to asked me wether I am familiar with "CODING IN XML"?
I was like if xml is consider a programming language, json will be too.12 -
Read "How to implement a programming language" (http://lisperator.net/pltut) and it was very cool and enlightening. I have decided to use what I learned to make a math evaluator with a proper lexer and extensible library and stuff like that. Not a full programming language but a nice and advanced math evaluator.10
-
Not really a rant and I'm only a beginner/hobbyist, but for a few months I've been active in a local gamedev club where I recently managed the courage to approach a much more experienced (5+ years) programmer.
We managed to have a good 30 minute chat (despite not using the same programming languages) and he told me "I really appreciate talking to someone who actually understands programming and what they're talking about!"
It felt like a pretty big milestone on my path to game development, at least it feels like I know more than I care to admit to myself.1 -
I've been in the programming world for like a year and a half. I've had relatively notable achievements - first place at hackathons, completed kinda remarkable projects, I even got to teach programming to interns at a leading communications company in my country. However, I still feel like a beginner. I'm not confident enough to contribute to projects. Maybe it's because I'm self taught, but is this common? When did you feel like you were ready to proceed to the next level?8
-
I remember when I first started programming and used to be scared of classes. I was thinking about it after I wrote several today like it was nothing.3

I put programming on a long hold a few months ago, but after I browse the playstore and randomly get recommended this app and install it I re-discovered my love for programming. I've been so motivated like I was pretty much never. I learned C#. I've completed my projects that sat around for way to long.
I'd like to just THANK YOU guys. You are an amazing community. -
When I need help with JavaScript, I google 'JS (insert query here)...'
When I need help with Go, I have to google 'Go programming (insert query here)...'
The extra term 'programming' is so search engines recognise I'm looking for answers related to the Go language.
Ironic, but Go is the least 'search engine friendly' language. Sites like O'Reilly and Packtpub return searches with uneven results.10 -
Now I feel bad for calling myself a programmer as a highschooler after seeing so many people shitting on the younger people. Goddammit I picked up programming because I thought it was cool and fun not because I want money or shit. I'm not the retard kiddies that overstate my ability. I like coding, I just like coding.
Now I wanna quit.7 -
I let my programming buddy comment all the code I write. He's great. His comments looks like this:
/*
I am groot!
*/1 -
Telling my mom how to do computer stuff is like programming, I need to outline every fucking step. Yes this includes file management.1

Alcoholic Programmer
Last year, I had an inevitable programming session while I was drunk. I didn't struggle at all. I programmed like composing a poem. Btw I have been programming for last 18 years and never enjoyed this much after college programming labs.
Since then I've been drinking before complicated logics and never disappointed.
Tl;dr. Programming is fun, but programming is unparalleled when drunk.4 -
I'm just a student, but I always feel like a badass when the class treats me like almost like a teacher when it comes to programming.
Our actual programming teacher is new, so she doesn't always teach well (don't get me wrong, she's nice and I do know my place as a student) so my classmates usually approaches me when they need clarification or they got an error on their code. Makes me feel useful :D4 -
As time goes on.. I see my friends, whom I studied programming with, just stop learning new things.
They think, or just behave, like they know everything worth knowing.
You can't talk to them about programming outside of work anymore. They just say that programming is "something you do at work".
I used to look-up to those people, and learn a lot from them. Now, they don't care enough to Google "what's this Rust thing people talk about?".
That really saddens me.2 -
"Yeah. I don't only design, but I can also code, just like you."
"Cool, what programming language?"
"HTML and also CSS."
The reason why I can't sleep at night2 -
Programming on paper (any benefits?)
For the programming exams we have at our university we have to write code on paper (like full code, not pseudo).
I feel that writing code on paper really limits my ability to express my programming knowledge, in comparison to writing code on the computer.
However, I cannot think of a real benefit of doing so. I mean most programmers (if I may generalize) have bad handwriting. Which is a loss-loss situation for both the examinees and professors (who have to read the exams).
Are there any benefits for writing code on paper?19 -
I long for the day I get a job with an actual developer team, where I can do things like getting my code reviewed or pair programming or being forced to write better tests.
Working as the only developer (or a team of 2) sucks :(4 -
Help, I don't know if I want to code as a job for the rest of my life.
I feel that I miss physical activity in my job. Its just sitting and programming.
I like programming, it's an infinite series of puzzles, and I like puzzles. But more physical would be nice.
Maybe I should find a 2nd job that is more physical and balance the two.
What is everyone's thoughts on this?7 -
Anyone else sometimes feel that coding, programming call it what you want. Has taken over their lives and fucked it up!!!
Some times wish I never started this shit. But can't stop, it's like an addiction.7 -
I feel like if I ever get a professional programming job my biggest problem will be I can't work on projects with other people when it comes to programming I really don't know how to split up the work any tips?5
-
Sad rant:
Programming has been my passion since forever, and about a year ago I realized I should make my profession out of that.
I did, and now I don't like programming anymore. 40h a week sucks5 -
I wish I had programming friends in my life all I have are kids at middle school that dont know anything about programming and left alone to my mind about all the languages I know and I am left with home work that's like 9th grade math even though I'm in 8th annnd including science,English,And history PE don't mind but out of them all I wish I had programming friends yay 😒 looking forward towards 8th grade again 😒16
-
Today I've come to the realization that being a PM is like trying to herd cats. I don't have enough energy for this and programming 😣😧2
-
I'm curious..
When does programming suck for you, and when is it fun?
Like I hate programming, when I run into an obscure use case that opens up some serious errors with my some, or gasp, all, of my architecture and forces me to rethink everything - especially DB design, ugh.
I love programming when my architecture and DB design create naturally readable code and everything falls into place and I feel like a genius.
I guess, in short.... plan before you code?
And then, plan again.
But don't plan too much.
The love/hate of my programming life summed up right there I think.
How about you?10 -
Sololearn has probably the dumbest community I've ever seen...
I know that there are lot of beginners who just started learning programming, but if you can't even use the app, I don't think they will be able to learn programming.
Also all these little kiddies who want to get some badass hackers but don't even know how to do a fucking course (There are lots of questions like "Where can I learn HTML" while they are right in the fucking app, like holy sheeet).
Sometimes I browse the Q&A just because there so funny and dumb questions. Really amusing!8 -
Anyone else get quite burnt out even after, like, 4 hours of programming? I usually feel like a zombie and can't think properly. Will this eventually stop happening?17
-
My dad: I don't know why you like programming... you write lines of meaningless things, there is no logic behind.
Me: ...Actually, it's not true... ehm... it doesn't matter... (in my mind: you would not understand)1 -
Somebody programmed a programming game using a programming game. Why I can't have time enough to make fun stuff like this? https://youtu.be/yMnOEgbm2fE
-
I HATE WORDPRESS. Its like programming a 10 year old pasta.
Cant even break lines in HTML or CSS, even marked as important.
Why my client want this garbadge is beyond me.3 -
The hardest part of programming, for me, is sitting down and making things happen. (Mainly because I like to just jump in with no planning).
-
I'm studying Computer Science and Engineering in Uni.
People don't understand the most fundamental principles of programming at all. Variables and functions are like a foreign language to them.
I get that not everyone knows everything but if you decide to go to uni to study programming, and you have never programmed before. Are you really in the right place?17 -
Question time! What was your first programming job or internship experience like? What I mean is, were you eased in or was it baptism by fire?
Mine is currently baptism by fire, coffee, and no sleep6 -
How do I exclude most non-programming related posts from my feed?
I don't want to see Facebook-like topics about weather and housing in my Devrant client.
I know I can use the toggle switch to exclude tags - and I have excluded some (like Jokes/Memes) - but the non programming rants keep coming.
Any tips on more tags to ignore?9 -
I am really considering teaching my wife how to code just so she can understand my rants better
I feel like the gravity of my ranting is not communicated well enough without programming context12 -
Why am I so stupid? I still don't understand programming after three years of studying on my own. I even went to a programming boot camp and got a c.s Degree. Just tell me that I'm not a fit for programming so I can quit. It seems to me like I don't know anything, I feel like I can't learn for shit. What am I missing, why can't I write code on my own? Why do I always need people held my hand? Why I don't understand anything?13
-
I read books on programming. The thing I most like about programming books is that they allow you to learn about topics that you would have never have thought to explore. When people look things up online, they tend to search very specific things, most times actual code. The internet is an incredible source for developers, don't get me wrong. But books allow you to learn about programming in a conceptual way which in turn will make learning new languages easier and allow your understanding of the languages you already know to be deeper.

so the other day i was programming and suddenly i wanted to learn haskell. (i don't know why it hit me so suddenly, maybe because it's a 'pure' functional programming language and these 2 terms i knew nothing about)
and to be honest it's really hard coming from an imperative programming language (C/C++, yes, i know they are different in their ways). it's like learning to program again! you really have to get a different mindset and for me honestly it's hard to grasp the idea that 'variables' are immutable! like, that's soooo weird it still stucks to me. for example how did they define the max or min function without using a while loop? what are monads?
I am just 2 days in but it'll be a fun ride!6 -
I started learning Rust and now I know the answer to the question "What would a programming language look like if the engineers were tasked with designing a bad programming language on purpose"16
-
Learning JS in 2018 is like asking programming advice from sales people. What the fuck is going on man? Halfway through trying to convince the company to use all these new shits, I felt stupid as shit.5
-
"Wow! Programming must be easy! Why did you charge us costly?"
Just because I work at home and talking to myself does not mean it easy...
PS. even now I still feel like noob in programming5 -
time management and programming belong in the same realm
like i code at 9am then i take a sip of coffee, and then its 12am -
I've chosen system/embedded programming because I liked system programming and did not like anything connected with web, frontend or UI.
So far it seems like it was a good choice. Even though web was not such a clusterfuck before, it was already repulsive. -
I was a foreign language student, but i didn't like the way my work-life was going (I had a lot of difficulties tryng to find a job).
So I decided to start programming... It appears i'm still studying "languages".
Is my life a joke?9 -
So,
Yesterday was Google CodeJam's Kickstart event ( or something like that ).
Participated in competitive programming for the first time. It was kinda fun I guess...
Nope I still hate competitive programming. I like being a laid back programmer who develops in his own pace.
I know it's not what industry wants but I can't jst go for competitive programming.
On the positive note, I started using goto in C++ because of it and created a better Graph library than I had before 🤗🤗
P.S. I did read on how to use goto and when to not use it. I guess my usage was fine... Or better yet, IT WORKED 😜😂
Well, I am done as far as competitive programming goes... 😭😭 -
Is the way people solve problems intrinsic to the native language they learned growing up? Can the shape of our thoughts be optimal for solving certain kinds of problems? Like sentence structure, grammar, etc.
If the pattern of thoughts a language promotes can help us solve problems. Then is there a spoken language that can help promote solving computer science problems?
I know I have to work to think differently to program in different styles of programming. I wonder if we can learn from different spoken languages patterns of logic that are applicable to engineering.
Mathematics, while not a spoken language, has helped me re-frame things in programming. I think programming has also helped in other areas. Like using binary search to find the end of a pipe in the ground.5 -
I hate programming tutorials for a complicated language like c++ that are dedicated to absolute beginners of programming. If you've never coded before, why are you trying to learn c++?5
-
So a question to all of the Java developers out there, am I the only one who can’t stand the idea of programming using eclipse or netbeans? I feel like Intellij idea is the best IDE that one can use8
-
Hearing "do this , do this like this, that like that" every day removes passion from programming I had before. Now I'm starting to get deeper into javascript and to learn backend, and I'm working on a CMS with NodeJS and MySql backend, and vanilla JS on the client side. I like the architecture I had, and really like how I started working on it. Passion is back!4
-
I got my first IT related real job. Im cisco certified and bachelor of applied sciences in computer science for 7 years. Programming for like 10 years. I have mixed feelings.2
-
Sometimes I would like to be those guys who learned programming without the helps of books and docs and just tinker until it works...6
-
Hi friends.
I'm 19 years old programmer and working already. My father is 47 years old. He don't know anything about programming yet. When he was young he was good in math.
Today when I came home he said that he would like to learn programming too and help me to do some projects in the future. I know it's kind of late for him to start learning something new, but what do you think, what can I do to help him start programming? What's the startpoint for 47 years old man in the world of programming.
P.S. He tried to learn Java watching online tutorials but couldn't understand anything.10 -
When I realized that programming is the greatest way to make one's living, that I will never love anything more than programming, and that every feature and quirk in a new language is like a new friend.
-
I have such a nasty pride habit with programming. Think I’m soo top boy international until I discover something everyone else knows, like RSS this week 🤦♂️10
-
I've written an insertion sort algorithm in my own esoteric programming language!
I also like to call it 'San Francisco sort'.
Explanation: https://github.com/iamgio/pikt/...8 -
I would like to get a little bit into functional programming.
Do you have any language suggestions to learn?14 -
About one week in my new entry level job and I feel completely clueless and useless. This is my first professional environment. Is this a normal feeling? What was your first programming job experience like?6
-
My most productive is honestly when I'm on a caffeine high (my personal favorite is a 24oz NOS). I have pulled all-nighters. Accidentally.
But getting INTO the mood for programming is simple and kinda embarrassing. I get excited by seeing programming keywords in real life. For example, at a job I worked at, there was a whiteboard what had the word "include" on it forever. Not about programming at all. But every time I saw it I was reminded of c/c++ and it made me wanna do some code. I don't know why I'm like this. -
I was wondering !
As a computer geek I would like to know everything from mathematics to programming , robotics and machine learning but as I go , new technologies appear and it's
just like an endless while loop!
I don't mean I wanna stop learning new things but just looking for a more effitient way for doing this!
Any idea about this?1 -
I fucked up my MySQL installation...
AGAIN!!
Whenever I really feel like programming in my free time (which became really rare), I fuck something up and spend half of the night fixing it. Once it’s fixed I’m done, don’t wanna do anything anymore..
I should just start programming and set up the infrastructure afterwards.. at least I would get to do some programming then..9 -
A friend suggested that I'd start learning a scriptable language like Ruby, Python or JavaScript instead of beginning with HTML and CSS, until I feel comfortable with programming.
I want to be a web developer and Ive learned some HTML.
So, any opinions?9 -
I have lately seen a lot of people mentioning that functional programming is better than object oriented programming.
So far I have only experience in oop and I would really like to know some reasons why it is better.9 -
I knew I wanted to be a device in college when I found out about it and it all made sense. I loved computers, video games and programming seemed like a no brainer. Now I'm happily developing and graduated with a computer science degree.6
-
I want to properly get into other programming languages like Java and C#, but I keep going back to Python because it's so much more familiar and I'm comfortable with it. :(
What do? Do others have this kind of problem too?15 -
I dreamr of programming a AI DJ that mixes like David Guetta on steroids on specific dates
maybe something I should do for my capstone, might be a fun project for a company2 -
I still don't know how I feel about programming tests here in my university being on paper. Literally, we code on paper and that's it. Teacher corrects it like a compiler.7
-
when you see this in the code of a senior programer
if(0){
all sort of things;
}
or just like
if($var == $tmp){
do nothing

if i would have done this in college i wouldnt be programming today...2 -
I wouldn't say any programming language has a function I hate. More like a strong dislike for the groupies.
Although, I mostly hate Perl as a whole.4 -
I've started participating in my university's student programming club. In one of the core projects I found the following lines of code:
class User(models.Model):
password = models.CharField(max_length=100)
...
I feel like I need to do something about it.3 -
Rant rant = new Rant();
Rant.InternshipGotten = false;
Apparently I failed to provide enough reason why I would like to do my internship with them.
And I didnt have any affinity with programming according to them.
Im not a great talker assholes. But im good at programming.
How would you even know my affinity to programming? Because I dont have any personal projects running?2 -
When you start learning a programming language it seems like I will be the master of it, when you actually start doing it,It fucks you well.2
-
Ban visual programming programs, like scratch after the fist month introduce them to enhanced Google search strings and let them code on the command line going from imperative, over functional to object oriented programming styles using languages suited for the current style. Not like using Java from the get go. I hated it, waiting until everyone got to the point where they kind of understood the logic but failed at using correct syntax and efficient coding styles.

Anyone here worked a whole lot with low level programming?
I have always worked with high level languages like Python and C++, but I’ve also had an interest in working with embedded systems, real close to the metal.
Any directions on where I should go to start learning low level programming? Sites, languages, etc?
Appreciated devRant fam!😊12 -
Hey. I would like to do a research on developer burnout analyzing post from developer sites like Stackoverflow or devRant. I think it's getting a more and more common problem in the developer community. What do you think about it? Any ideas about how should i identify the symptoms from only programming related posts?9
-
Hello DevRant,
I need your help
I'm currently studying Game design and development first year in The Netherlands and I love programming but I hate designing. I was thinking about changing the course to something like Ethical Hacking or Computer science. The reason why I want to do this is that they teach us openfl until second year and I feel like I learn nothing until now.
Do you think would be better to change the course or to stay but start programming in something else? And what programming language would you recommend?
P.s. I also want to apply for a part time job/summer school to gain experience but I had no luck at all.
P.s.s. You are the best community for me!

Does anyone know a good book for learning PHP? I want to know more about back-end development and would like some recommendations. I've been programming mostly in Java before and also have experience with SQL, HTML and CSS.
If anyone could suggest a book or any kind of advice I would really appreciate it. I've found some interesting ones online like "PHP & MySQL Web Development – by Luke Welling & Laura Thompson", but would like to hear out first people who know more about this programming language.6 -
My mum was programming at high school. It was COBOL, but she never used it again. So thats how she lost every sense for programming. Even like 2 months earlier, she thought I am just playing games and watching videos, but then we finally had a talk and she understands now. I am happy.
-
I hate mostly all of my inability to focus and the fact that I like programming. Surprisingly, they aren't a good match. Im trying to actually learn Java and react native. Anyone have any solutions for quick and effective ways to learn?10
-
I like being diverse in what I can program. I like software development, web development, networking programming, I’m starting to get into embedding programming and using lower level languages like C/C++ (I’ve used them before but not for anything practical) and I enjoy the diversity. It makes me feel good knowing I can extend my programming knowledge.
Also I like having project ideas lined up so I know what I want to do next. And if I don’t finish one I know is easy but I can’t figure out, I CANT MOVE ON! I have to finish it. It’ll drive me fucking nuts.11 -
I need a new hobby. Programming doesn't excite me anymore, at least not how it did a couple of years back. I'd like to get into robotics and stuff, but everything's expensive where I live. I'd like to get into cars, also too expensive where I live. I like playing video games, but I suck at them and they bring me no feeling of having accomplished something. Sports? Suck at them too. I'd like to ski, but I live in South America. I just don't know what to do with my free time. Programming feels like a chore nowadays, but it's all I have.32
-
Sometimes I feel like moving to the equator for the temperature. Winter is pretty and all but programming with cold fingers is just such a pain7
-
I feel so overwhelmed. I feel like I'm never going to actually learn everything about programming. I feel like I'm just going to learn some new API every time I want to do some thing. I feel like I'll lose the ability to do basic programming. I feel like I need a cup of coffee.3
-
When you started your first programming job was it easier or harder than you pictured because I feel like I'm no where near ready (although I'm not out of high school just yet so I have time to prepare but still)3
-
With all the talk about coffee around I feel like a magician for programming without having tasted a single drop of coffee in my life5
-
What's a good programming tool for mac book pro?
I like sublime text but I want to get other people's comments, and reference.14 -
I've been trying to diversify programming languages I know.
It's been rough; I just don't like a lot of the high level programming languages and low level ones are often tough to learn to for someone without formal CS background.
Then I tried Go, and you should too!9 -
I've been programming for 5 years now and every single day I find stuff I have to learn like trending frameworks or git stuff. Otherwise I'm considered nothing.
-
Programming is stressful. I feel like I'm 50 years old already with white hairs. What non technical job have high salary but lesser stress?6
-
My biggest influencer? My Programming-Teacher in HTL. I never want to become like him so I'll do my best.
-
Should I learn Haskell? Would it help me with other coding languages as well?
My main language is JavaScript, also I would like to learn functional programming.2 -
Is it normal to not like the projects given to you at work? Don't get me wrong. I bloody love programming but when I get a project that is not interesting, I feel kinda guilty.5
-
A hear people have mixed feelings about listening to music when programming. I listen to chill step, upbeat electronic or rap mostly. Do you like to listen to music when programming? If so, what kind of music?5
-
I really like programming but after 5 years I realized it's a very social job. We have to deal with others more than the marketing people or heck even some customer service people.3
-
Back when I was a total noob at programming probably 6-7year back. I once fucking try to memorize even-odd number program for the practical test because I was unable to understand anything related programming.
It was like - read 20times the include statement and try to remember what was in between < >.
I totally feel embarrassed now after looking back, that silly me didn't even try programming properly.1 -
one thing I don't like about programming: documentation. I've spend 6 hours today on writing use cases :(
-
When I first started getting interest in server side programming, I remember I felt like god with all those possibilities!
-
None of my friends have interest in learning programming. But I have desire to become a programmer.
I am daily spending 2+ hours other than my work time in doing online courses. But I will feel good if there is anyone to talk and discuss the concepts that I learned.
I am talking and thinking in programming terms like ( Data structure , algorithm) within myself...
Guide me guys... !!!7 -
I was bored so I learned HTML/CSS, I was like "eh, programming is easy!".
So I learned C next and I was like "eh, programming is kinda hard actually".
So I learned to program rather than learn a language, got back to C until I was comfortable with it.
Nothing is hard now :D2 -
I like programming but too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing 🤔 I dunno
Me programming year 1️⃣: I want to learn as much as I can
Me programming year 2️⃣: I want to solve this complicated problem and surpass the expectations
Me programming year 3️⃣: I want to solve this complicated problem and get paid
Me programming year 4️⃣: I want to solve this complicated problem even if it is difficult & stressful
....
Me programming year 8️⃣: I aint want nothing no more..4 -
i never knew id reach that point when i need to take a break from programming and everything that has been causing me so much stress for the past few days. and to be honest, it actually feels great to be focused on only one thing instead of stressing out on different projects and debugging them all at once.
in a few days, ill prolly go back to programming some side projects. its not like i can keep myself away from them...
programming is like a magnet for. that magnetic force is growing stronger day by day and im being pulled closer to it. im happy about it except for some occasions when i get too stressed.4 -
wow, to think about it , I have not been really 'excited' about stuff for last few years...
Now its like yeah, this is all a rat race...gotta learn this , learn that ,learn everything...but not really excited about it..Maybe feel like a thug-life boss if I get paid or recognised for my work...
However this is a race I am happy to run in,I like coding, like nerdy/smart tech jokes , like learning new stuff, and like my programming life.
A day without opening my laptop is really a day I feel sad but not the other way round. -
Question for those who have programming for several years :
Does it sometimes feel like the logic in your mind is reflected by the career path you have chosen?
Meaning, for me, when it comes to decision making, or when trying to understand an idea, I usually black out when a variable in my mind does not make sence.
Sometimes it feels like programming logic has taken over how I think.2 -
I struggle with a single decision on a daily basis: do I leave copies of my work at my school for future students to reference, or do I let them struggle just like I did when I ventured down the path of programming?5
-
Oh boy I haven't been programming the whole week so far, just googling and observing my boss to know what's going on. I hate days like these. The life of an intern.
-
Hi everyone,
I have a question, what should learn if I want to make products for example like headphones or laptops and stuff like that. Till now ive only been programming and making pc games. And where could I learn it? Thanks!9 -
Did an intro to functional programming course in Scala.
Felt like I was able to touch the face of an immutable God. :')8 -
I think, in a few years programming will be like driving. It will be so easy to learn that almost everyone would be a programmer.3
-
Programming in c++ on DOS (dosBox) feels so amazing, I really like it, I'll get a CRT monitor just for this (also a bit of Doom)! So cool!1
-
What if the programming community had something like the Oscars, to celebrate, cleanly coded, cutting edge software, with an award ceremony and everything... and broadcasted on tv.
I bet you'd get more respect at work.3 -
Now I associate programming with work and pain. My mind refuses to start a new side project. Is like a programmer-disease.
Oh yeah, is Christmas by the way...3 -
Is it weird that I hold a high degree of respect for every sector in programming. When we talk about front-end, back-end in websites to the GUI support and logical end in desktop applications to cloud-based microservices, I respect clean, swift, and agile developers who who a structural mindset. For the founding fathers of assembly to high-programming languages like c all the way to high-high level programming languages like C#, JavaScript, Python, I respect them and thank them for their time and dedication in relatively stable libraries. I also thank the creators of OOP and FP as well as the developers that make great use of these paradigms. I come to realization that no one wants to fuck shit up; the great engineers of our past wanted to build some legit, non-trash programming tools, and we can't bash them for that. Respect, courteously critique, and build applications and programming tools to a standard that someone in the future would admire and be grateful for.4
-
I would like to learn how to better automate workflows. I find it fascinating that you can control one program with another. Especially GUI apps. I have automated apps before to reduce human error and boring data entry work. It would be amazing to take this to a new level. Perhaps even automate specific programming work.
Machines programming machines would be fascinating as well. -
!rant
I keep diving into Racket (my first lisp-like), I often get totally overwhelmed by macros.
You don't know what power means until you program a programming language. -
Pair programming. I noticed my productivity and motivation skyrocketed when I found about VS LiveShare, so now I share all of my code sessions. even if nobody's there, i still work more because I like showing my progress to others.1
-
When you feel like giving up on it all and just going off the grid... I've been programming too long. I need a fuckin' break.1
-
Might be a minority here... But I really like Kdevelop for almost all of my programming needs.... Bash, Windows Batch, C, Java, Python.. You name it... Kdevelop's got my back! :)2
-
One year since I started programming I feel like I haven't made enough progress. If I have an idea, I don't know how to get started with it.
When I finally figure out a good starting point, I get stuck in Tutorial Land and I feel like I should be able to do things myself with just the documentation instead of doing beginners tutorials y'know?1 -
Why is everyone into big data? I like mostly all kind of technology (programming, Linux, security...) But I can't get myself to like big data /ML /AI. I get that it's usefulness is abundant, but how is it fascinating?6
-
Where the fuck do I take myself?
I love programming, I like cricket in sports as hell, I love blogging writing, love to do sketching have very much interest in photography.
Damit I'm hatting myself7 -
I started learning programming in college. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do but it sounded like I would enjoy it. And I was right!
-
I’m being taught some network programming, and my friend/teacher is helping me on the project to teach me, and I’m learning a lot but I don’t feel like I’ve personally done a lot.
I mean I’ve debugged and asked questions and make sure I understand what’s happening but I still don’t feel like I’ve done a lot. :/5 -
Been programming Java for like 20 years. I mean, not like constantly throughout, but a fair amount.
Still, even knowing the exact answer, when that damn Java Updater pops up I'm like "why the fuck do I need this???"1 -
I'm stuck...I life in small city, there is like 3-6 Web programming companies...my salary just got smaller for no reason...and I'm programming with fuckin Magento... I'm really want to live on Mars, alone.2

The sacred mystery of web application development is in front of me: php is a script or programming language.
With php 7 option opcache.file_cache i can see the php bytecode.
It is like admiring the holy spirit.
Sometimes I have the feeling of programming J (ava) HP.2 -
So, what language should I pick, to start my own programming language?
Or... like how does that work. Say, if you ever wanted to to it. Out of curiousity.
Yes. I'm qualified. That's why I'm asking.question new programming language let's call it 'devplant' you know manufacturing plant... never mind. like a factory had extra coffee today6 -
Once I realized the power of ASP.NET in my Advanced Web Dev class... It was like a culmination of all of my favorite things: web design, programming, instant gratification....
My life would be forever changed 👐2 -
I don't know whether this has been asked before but is it normal for devs to copy/paste code? I feel like half of the programming I do is copy pasting code. I mean, I know what I'm doing. I'm just lazy to type it out.7
-
Even though I’ve been working through a C# book about WinForms, which I’m half way done with, I still don’t feel like I’m working productively and I hate the negative feeling it’s giving me.
It’s going to sound stupid but it’s making me feel like I’m not spending enough time programming even though I’ve been programming quite a bit this week. I mean the small apps aren’t practical they’re just for learning how it all works but still. Im not reading the book for learning the programming logic it’s for the WinForms knowledge.
I think it’s just that I want to make progress on my main project and just have a 4+ hour coding session.19 -
In university we have to code using ruby. It's likely the most useless and ugly piece of shit programming language I have ever seen (apart from VB). Why can't we use something useful like python?6
-
Does anybody know if there is a new page for whitespace programming language online anywhere? I can find it nowadays in web archive only http://web.archive.org/web/...
I ask because I would like to contribute some extensions to the language.. -
I want to start something like a blog or a programming diares, what do you think about it? and, where is the best site to start writing/posting medium or dev community?6

How much of the programming world is in English? I as an English speaker don't have a language barrier. Which is fortunate for me because I would have to stop every 5 minutes anytime I needed an "ñ" . But what's it like of others?12

I remember when I first graduated, I could only find job opportunities where companies wanted Mid to Senior levels. Now, 4 years later, I can only find job opportunies for Senior level devs.
Fuck this market so much, why did I had to like programming.9 -
Short sorry: How I left the university.
I was working already.
Every morning I was getting a bus to go to the university. My job place was on the way to the university, so every time when I was passing by the office I was thinking about all the things I can do at job, then, simply, I was getting out of the bus saying to myself: fuck that knowledge that university gives. I want to practice.4 -
Currently learning go and I’m really enjoying it. It’s been a while since I learnt a new programming language and the experience is different to what I remember. I’m reading an o reilly book and when about how they implemented a common feature of programming I’m like oh no they didn’t. I think this is what normal feel when they read celebrity gossip. Hash tag goto.2

Hi,
I've just started learning programming to be a web developer. I've learned html, CSS , now on C# and to go for ASP.NET, Java, etc..
I see a lot of posts in devRant and on Facebook about Programming I feel like most people reached far and it's too late for me start now.
Any advice please.22 -
what I like to do when I'm not programming (draw, and also garden)
Can't. stop. creating. things.
what do you guys like to do outside of coding?4 -
never being frustated like this before at programming
for real lol. guess i need to take a rest for some days -
(heading)How a programming language is created? Because I want to make my own.(heading)
I am learning C and next I will learn C++, SQL,DS&A, Assembley, Lex&Yacc,Operating Systems, Computer Arcticture, Computer Networks because I think it's enough for my goal. The only reason I am learning this, to make my own C++ clone with my own knowledge. But I really don't know how can I create my own programming language like C++ from scratch. Like what are the first steps to began with. As I know that C, first step is Preprocessor then Compiler then Assembler then (Loader/Linker).
Anyone please give me a step by step guide like learn this language first then this then this. So I can finally reach that amount of knowledge which I can implement to create my own programming language like C++.6 -
Whenever someone praises a language or framework to be the holy grail of programming, I like to think of epicurus' problem:
1. If an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent programming language exists, then all the hundreds of other PLs would not.
2. There are a fuckton of PLs in the world.
3. Therefore, an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent programming language does not exist. -
I’d either advise a small break where you just focus on other hobbies for a few and let yourself relax,
or I would say learn something new like a new programming language, or a new area of programming (like game development or web development) and just try to make your own projects and stuff that you find fun or new,
or maybe focus on something different in tech, like try IT, Networking, Security, etc.
I suppose it would depend on the person/circumstance.2 -
I go on codementor sometimes even when I could probably figure out a problem by myself because I enjoy the company of a like mind and have no one else to discuss programming with .3
-
I love my job, teaches something new everyday!
I absolutely like working on 99' tech and programming languages,
I love being an on call agent so I can get my sleep interrupted,
Happy april fools fellas -
So I just started learning Swift, and I think it's modern, beautiful and a bit weird. Like the Portuguese of programming languages.
I think it should be used more.3 -
A recruiter calls me and asks if I'm interested in an interview with their company. I say yes and she asks how I like programming with C aaaand my resume only mentions C++..
-
Family - "You might be a great coder, but if you dont have a degree, you wont get respect"
Overall, my brother and family are very supportive. only thing i dont like is their strong thrust to get me graduated and pass the exam, despite my negative interest in the course i am enrolled into.
I am into programming, not because of money, that is flowing around it, or the present day trend. Infact programming was not my field of interest, even though I was always interested in computers and machines. My first choice was to become a mechanical engineer. But i got enrolled into Electronic communication course.
Only after sophmore year, i started getting interest in programming.
Programming, to me is a very powerful tool. You can create what you want.
Programs, when works, Feels like magic -
I feel so insecure about my future.
I feel like tomorrow I will be fired because AI can do my job. I've already got a few loans which I need to pay and I don't have any other commercial skills than programming.
I feel like in 5 years I will lose my job due to AI or am I just panicking?10 -
I'm currently pursuing engineering in an Indian engineering college. Needless to say the college Curriculum isn't going to take me places.
I like programming and I feel I'm pretty good at it. So I need tips as to what I need to do apart from college to pursue programming.
I have recently started learning Android development and web development in the college.
So any tips from devs would be great!3 -
I sometimes tend to say things or "do" things, in messaging apps, as if I was programming...
Things like:
Gaetano96.Say("Hi :3");
or
while (true)
{
Group.Members("Gaetano96").Send(GIF(rnd.Next(0,20)));
}
Stuff like that xD -
Can anyone suggest me any site or place from where i can get questions to improve my programming skill
... Like practice questions9 -
Have a BS in Web Design & Development from a university...but am wondering if I should go attend a community college and get a degree in programming too.
I feel like YouTube and Lynda would serve me just as well also...8 -
So I'm looking into Scala, can someone tell me a good reason to learn Scala? What is the main purpose of this programming language? I have done some research my self, I would like to know what the community thinks though!

Dataweave is a programming language like pornstars are actors. They are _technically_ acting but there’s a difference…
Edit: though I would never talk shit about pornstars like I do dataweave1 -
I made a poll about which programming department you like
here is the link to the poll

I need some advise from other Web developers.
What program do you use for local programming where you have the newest version of php?
Would like to have multiple sites running and mamp can't do that.21 -
I know devrant is not the place to ask this but I didn't know what else to do....I very often have doubts about weather I like programming or not even when I started learning programming 2 years ago...Does this imply that I don't really like it? Because I believe that if you really like something than you don't have doubts about it but am not sure if I am correct or not.8
-
got to play adventures of hugo when i was 6yrs old, a game where you need to type in commands for the character to execute. when i finished the game, my dad told me, that's programming. and i was like O_o this is my destiny

Where have you learned "the useful" programming ?
I mean, programming math challenges and this stuff is really fun and makes you think about things differently.
But it's not useful(It very much is, I just mean that the output programs aren't). Where did you learn useful programming ? Like creating GUI apps and stuff like that.3 -
I really want an electric skateboard ....
I feel like it would complete my programming persona....
Anyone got anything like that ? -
I still don't know what back-end vs front-end is. I have a hard time understanding terms like that when it comes to programming jobs; I just like to program. Could anyone help explain these to me and give examples?8
-
How can I find someone to help me while I learn python?
I mean not necessarily a mentor like an online friend to talk about programming stuff and help us mutually11 -
Now I can think more logically. I was worst at math, like ever. But programming made me think more deeply and that boosted my math scores. Still, I am peace of shit, just digital.
-
When im coding a backend in java spring boot i feel like im "at home" and in peace. No other programming language or framework makes me feel this way. Do you guys also feel like this when you work in your favorite language + framework?6

Larry Wall
I really like the fact that he approached perl with similar ideas like in the early days of programming.
He also seems like a down to earth guy.
It is kind of sad that perl isn't used as much nowadays. -
I don't. I could've been a writer or a physicist for all I know. But when we started programming in high school I realised that I like doing it and I'm a quick learner with an affinity to maths so it felt relevant.
-
If you're not truly interested in it.
I don't like math, sitting or a lot of reading but my interest in programming gradually increased overtime. -
hi guys so i'll be having a tutorial session tomorrow about java programming(not my choice) and im looking for scratch(like) game or any block programming games that can have classes with methods and properties. btw i want to use block type programming first before getting into hard coding because (at least i think) it can help ease the learning curve, it will help understanding about the concepts first without the pressure of remembering syntax. any recommendations?1
-
Is it a good idea to learn two programming languages at the same time? I have a learning schedule created like I learn 2 languages alternatively in a week. For example, Python on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Java on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Is this a right approach to learn a new programming language or practice already learnt programming language? Any suggestions or developers following similar pattern of learning, please share your sample schedule.14

android developer should learn server side back end programming like PHP, python??
till now i am using firebase..6 -
I want to have a fucking background in native Android programming (thou I already have Java/C#) but my laptop is so fucking slow (rip Android studio) and I don't have enough money to buy a better one. I did try studying hybrid Android programming (Ionic Framework) but I just don't like coding in HTML/Angular/JS/TypeScript. Haha.1
-
I found it interesting cause honestly I don't think so I have skill that can pay my bills except programming :)...
So programming saves me... but with time I fell in love with code.. solving real life problems.. providing solutions.. Now Its like I am addict to code .. -
Best keyboards for programming? I currently use the Logitech wave and love it, but would like to explore other options.4
-
I like to look back at what I considered 'programming' back in high school compared to what I'm doing now as a almost CP college graduate
Still know absolutely nothing. But that's immensely more than what I did as the best student in my high school programming elective and the barely accomplishments i achieved as a high school intern at CMU
I still have a copy of some my old high school 'code' (more like data trash)on a flash drive just for memory's sake -
I started programming with C# for a Windows Phone 8 app for my dad. Never finished it, but it sparked my interest for programming.
And mostly because I want my friends to say something like:"Wow, you're super cool" or something like that.(FAILED)
Now I work with C++ and I'm proud of myself, so I basically inspired myself to take on programming. -
i feel like a fucking failure, I am so tired of programming, i dont even like it anymore, and all my coworkers are programmer gods. I feel like a burden. Part of it might be imposter syndrome but for the most part its true.10
-
It's bit like having Stockholm syndrome. I fear that all this sitting and staring at tge monitor can cause many health problems ... Bu I still can't stop doing (and loving) programming.
-
Looking to get a decent laptop for programming which I can use for heavy apps like android studio. I'm open to all options including Mac, surface laptops, need suggestions5
-
Honestly, I'm kinda sick of programming. I would like to work in some other area of systems engineering, like business intelligence or network security, I don't know. Do you guys have any experience on other fields besides programming?3
-
Who's that sane to prefer programming with stored procedures than an actual programming language?
I would like to touch that shit only for optimization reasons, but when you have a project being built up without proper ORMs this is the idea that comes out of 'seniors' -__-8 -
I am a newbie coder! Want to know from the rant community how do you become pro at programming? Like reach god level.12

Help me out a bit, functional programming fans!
I'm experimenting with functional programming through JavaScript.
I created some dummy data to experiment with and created a simple function to query the data. I would like to get all elements, whose type attribute is not 'x'. A simple solution can be seen under the 'original code' part.
Under the 'fully functional code' part I gathered some frequently used general purpose functions, which I assembled into the function composition at line 45.
I'm having a bad taste in my mouth and feel that I've gone too far. I basically replaced every language element for a function. Is this the goal of functional programming? Is this how a perfectly functional code should look like?1 -
To me, programming, designing systems, reviewing work, it's all easy.
Perhaps that's because of the challenge I've set myself. To find a like minded that I can get to know -
I do not like the Zig programming language. It looks like Javascript for unnecessary reasons and has some weird syntax.15
-
Always seemed like an evidence. I can't imagine life without programming.
I'm interested in a lot of things and I like doing various activities but sometime I lose interest in them. It's never been the case with programming -
Is there something I can check to see where I'm at with my programming knowledge and check back in with so I can kind of understand what I should be learning for a job or more advanced programming? I'm around the point of realization where I need to learn how to read documentation for a framework I think because I'm about tired of just learning a language to the point I can make like a calculator program (trivial coding?). Any thoughts?3

Is programming a website/basic backend program in TypeScript with NodeJS actually a good idea? Or should you be programming it in C#, Rust, (not PHP), Golang, etc?
I personally feel like NodeJS has pretty amazing performance considering how much less code you would write compared to the other options. Although I feel something like Rust (haven't used it yet) would be more robust but more work.
Note: I only currently know JS, TS, C#, Go and obviously HTML, CSS9 -
Initially I was taking Network Security. Didn't like it that much. Figured I should explore and took a diploma in Information Tech.
First programming assignment, stayed up the whole night to solve it accompanied by a couple of Monster drinks. Got hooked on programming ever since. Picked up caffeine addiction along the way.
Oh and I'm now lactose intolerant. Strongly believe it's due to the large amounts of coffee I had back in the day. -
I am still learning programming and coding. Would some of you like to make a group and understand how algorithms work or how programming works as a whole?
Lets develop and grow together I guess. Interested people dm

So I wasnt liking Kivy so I decided to get PyQt5 and I'm liking it but I feel like some of the studios widgets take a lot of programming out of the process and I feel like I'm cheating idk but it makes it a lot easier

Dynamic/Dynamically is used WAY to much in programming. What part of programming is NOT dynamic?
https://dictionary.com/browse/...
Depending upon your interpretation of the definition it can just mean: moving parts. Programming is all about moving parts.
I see things like "dynamically allocated array". Wtf does that even mean? (I get it, most likely means on heap) Say it specifically: it was allocated on the stack or the heap.
Apparently some people are just more energetic in their programming...
It becoming a really overused buzzword...8 -
Okay, so basically.
I would like to learn programming and I'm not yet sure of what I should do.
You know hacking or become a web Dev or something to do with AI. I'm very interested in anything programming and I don't like what they teach me in college and I need a few suggestions of what are the languages that I need to learn to get really going.11 -
Do you guys listen to any programming podcasts which do not just center around one particular programming language? Any podcasts regarding topics like universal programming concepts, history of programming etc. At the moment I'm listening to Command Line Heroes (from RedHat) but I have almost listened to every episode and need new stuff :)

Any devrant or friendly programming telegram group i may join?
Currently learning cpp and would like some supports.. -
!rant
Not programming related, kind of...
I don't want to seem like I'm sharing nosense but I guess this sort of thing would be popular with devs / gamers
Hacknet is on offer on Steam

It's always hard to balance time between romantic affairs and programming projects when both are going on simultaneously. I've been talking to a girl at my college, and even though she doesn't take up much of my time, I still feel like it's harder to make time for my programming. I guess this is more of dating affecting my code, but I personally prioritize code over dating currently in life.

I learnt programming basics in C language in highschool because it was taught there and I was pretty good with grasping concepts. However, I had no intention to have career in programming or had clear idea where / how to apply programming knowledge. It was only after i made half way thru college on a stream i lost interest in...that my sense kicked in and I watched Bob Tabors C# lessons on MVA that I really felt like i know programming. Now i can't imagine doing anything other than coding / being a dev.

Hello to everyone!
I was wondering, how to find mate for collaborative programming projects ?
I would like to keep me trained with new challenges during the summer, and I know there’s a section here on DevRant for collaborative project but I find this a bit confusing. -
Uhhh, you know what? With bogosort, I can confidently declare that programming is totally like gambling now. I mean, you shuffle and shuffle, hoping for a sorted result, just like throwing the dice and crossing your fingers for a lucky outcome. Who knew coding could be this much of a gamble, right?7
