Happened a while ago but I still find it funny.
*phone rings*
Me: good morning sir, how can I help you?
Client: MY WEBSITE IS OFFLINE, FIX IT RIGHT NOW.
M: I'm going to take a look, what's the domain?
C: *gives domain*
M: I see, that domain expired already, it was cancelled through our customer portal by the client, you maybe or someone you know?
C: WHAT?! MY INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS DEPENDS ON THAT DOMAIN, I'D NEVER CANCEL IT, THIS IS BULLSHIT! I'F THE SITE GOES OFFLINE FOR A MONTH I'LL FUCKING GO BANKRUPT, YOU'RE GOING TO FIX THIS RIGHT NOW.
M: if I may ask, how is your business doing right now?
C: HOW IS THAT QUESTION RELEVANT RIGHT NOW?!
M: well, you said that if the site would go offline for a month, you'd go bankrupt. The domain registration ended about half a year ago so that's why I aske......
*beeeeep beeeeep beeeeep*
Well, okay then.13 -
The hardest part of starting a new project... finding a good name and having a domain available for it.14
-
Kudos to namecheap for making whoisguard (domain whois protection) free forever!
Kudos to them for giving everyone the option of privacy, for free.38 -
I aspire to be this level of petty.
But I'd take it up a notch and buy several variations of the domain name.5 -
Building a website for a client. Asked what URL they would like for the domain name...
Their reply:15 -
Hi everyone,
We're currently experiencing major issues with the devrant.io domain due to another outage/problem with .io domains themselves. More info here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item/...
The issue is also being reported on twitter.
If you receive a host not found, connection error, etc. connecting to devRant, this is why. We'll keep you updated and in the future we will probably be switching away from .io at least for our API.
Thanks for the patience.22 -
*has a great company name idea*
*tries to register domain*
*domain taken*
*looks at whois*
*i already own it*
i don’t know how to feel11 -
Just a personal thing (and no clue why) but I can't fucking stand it when people say www. in front of their domains.
Working as a Linux + support engineer, I get quite some calls where people have to give me the domain they're calling about.
"what's the domain if I may ask?"
"oh that's www.theirdomain.com!"
OH FOR FUCKS SAKE JUST SAY THE DOMAIN, WWW. IS *NOT* PART OF IT, IT'S JUST A FUCKING SUBDOMAIN 😤18 -
Techy name? Check.
Word which ends with "er" but scrap the E? Check.
A .io domain? Check.
This is a hipster app.8 -
Will meet our legend @wiardvanrij (the one who sold his devrant.com domain to dfox/trogus) later today if traveling goes well.
Excited much!15 -
I really should buy the linu.xxx domain when I get the money, shouldn't I?
Still thinking it over :P18 -
Stop buying domains that you don't use you fucking idiots. Can't find any domain for my new project. But none of them are being used. Fucking retards.15

I had my first nightmare in years:
I was at work, and suddenly saw that my NS has changed for my personal domain. I also saw that the domain has transferred to another provider and a company had bought it and had it for sale for $7000.
I woke up, but it took 10 minutes before I realized it was just a dream.3 -
Company giveaways ain't so bad. Got a one year free subscription to a .tech domain and a Raspberry pi 3. :D5

Not really dev as much but still IT related 😂
in college we got some new macs in our class. Before we were allowed to use them the "IT Tech" came in and did something to them all (probably ran some scripts to set stuff up)
Anyway, I was completely new to OS X and accidentally pressed a key combo that opened up a dialogue to connect to a remote file server. I saw the address field was already filled out (from when the IT Tech was running the scripts). So me being me I decided to connect. Low and behold my student credentials got me in.
Taking a look around I found scripts, backups and all sorts of stuff. I decided to look at some of the scripts to see what they did. One of them was a script to add the Mac to the domain. Here's the funny part. The login to do that was hard coded into the script....
To conclude. I now have domain level access to my whole college network 🙃
Tl;Dr: stupid it tech saves password in script. I find it. I now have domain level access to the college network14 -
This link shortener service. It's nearly good enough for public testing.
Finding a good domain name, though.... 😅45 -
Get idea, buy domain, make git repo, let the domain expire, post memes about how side projects are always abandoned!3
-
Friend's site, mail verification, nextcloud etc. all went down...
Checked all his servers, all his configs and what not... Just to realize the moron forgot to pay his bills (so his domain expired)...5 -
@JoshBent suggested that I'd make a blog about security.
Nice idea, fair enough!
*registers domain at provider with discounts at the moment*
*tries to find whois protection option*
"You can add WHOIS protection to your account as an upgrade"
*requests authorization token*
*logs into usual domain name provider account*
*transfers domain name*
*anonymizes WHOIS details within two seconds*
I could've stayed and ask them about the cost etc but the fact that they even HAVE a price for protecting WHOIS data is a no-go for me.
Fuck domain name resellers which ask money for protecting ones WHOIS information (where possible).35 -
This is just fucking awesome.
Bought a domain name from a local registrar today and now my personal details like full name, phone number and exact address are nicely on whois.
The cunts didn't even thing to ask me during registration if I want to make it private and there's no option to do that on their piss poor website.
Oh well, tomorrow will be the day that I transfer my new domain away from them. Last time I ever do business with these shitcakes10 -
Friend - Could you develop a Website for me ?
Me - What exactly for?
Friend - (Explains what he wants) and the name of the site should be eventsomethingmanagement.com
Me - oh for that you'd have to buy the domain name, and host your site there
Friend - I thought you'd do all of that
Me - Seriously? NO
Friend - I thought you were an engineer

Me after 2 months: Looks at expenses, questions impromptu spending habits on domains5 -
That moment that you come across a domain name which you thought would have definitely been taken already.
Came across strtoti.me. (php function for converting date/time strings into unix epoch's). Quickly wrote an api for it and put it online because fuck it, why not!
Feel free to use it as much as you want, I can't guarantee its availability unless it would become really popular but I can't imagine that.
URL: https://strtoti.me
API example: https://strtoti.me//... 20 20:15

API documentation (not that good yet, might improve it..): https://strtoti.me
Well, let's see how this goes. Feedback appreciated but I currently have a shitload of projects to it doesn't have the highest priority right now!12 -
Ive just bought a domain name for my nephew of now 36 hours old. Ive a really common lastname and it took me 8 years to get a domainname with my name in it.
By the time he is ten (or how old they will be when they get their first email address) he will have his own personalized email and when they learn the basics of programming he can use his own domain for his site.8 -

Recent life lessons:
◆ Do not buy a domain name without obfuscating your contact information, lest you want to be harried by people offering to provide their services to “grow your business”
◆ Do not change descriptions on your most recent experience that’s set to be ongoing on LinkedIn without making note of the “notify your followers” toggle, lest you wish LinkedIn to post on your behalf a message urging people to congratulate you on your new position. A post which you cannae delete. And lo, if you comment upon it urging well-wishers to not comment upon it or offer congratulations as it is not what it appears, witness the lack of good that doth do. Resort to canned response to DMs explaining the situation and urging the well-wisher to learn from your misfortune. (I find it really difficult to not politely respond to folk. It was a good two days of like 50+ messages.)
◆ If you have a career coach that tells you to connect to as many people as possible on LinkedIn and accept connection requests, perhaps just don’t follow that advice. My second career coach was like “That doesn’t even make sense” “I KNOW!” ... I have so many LinkedIn connections. But I cannae just prune the list because it would take for freaking ever to figure out who was who and who I really still wanted to connect with. *sigh* 900+ is too many. And I have over 100 requests I haven’t even gotten around to looking at.22 -
Todays rant is thanks to GoDaddy.
Thanks for parking our 9+ year old domain because of payment 'issues' without any warning.

I am a firmware developer with 4 years experience. C and sometimes assembly is my bread and butter.
Like 2 years ago, I was really interested to make a switch to application development. Got referred by my friend to her startup.
But I was a bit rusty with my data structures, high level languages and interpersonal skills.
The first question was to find the number of occurences for each word in a paragraph. The language choice was Java. But I was allowed to use C++ since it was the closest relative to Java that I knew.
And I started implementing a binary search tree from scratch and started inserting each tokenised word into it, wrote a traversal algorithm.
The interviewer, luckily, was a patient guy. After I completed my whole mess, he asked is it possible to do this in a slightly better way with constant time access without traversal.
I said yes, we can with a hash table but I dont know how to implement one. He replied I dont expect you to implement the hash table but see you use it. I asked him if I am allowed to used the standard library, for which he said ofcourse.
*facepalm*.
Finally I understood his expectation, referred cppreference.com and used an unordered_map.
Later there were some quesion on databases for which I tried my best to answer. And I frankly replied that I am not comfortable with JS frameworks as of now. Got rejected.
So the mistake is I never asked basic questions like what is the time complexity expects, if I was allowed to use standard library, didnt spend some extra time on studying stuffs needed for the domain switch and most importantly I panicked.7 -

I have this side project that I’ve been working on for the past 6 years part time but over the past 2 years just as a sysadmin to keep it running, it’s unpaid work but whatever, dropping in once a month or so doesn’t worry me.
Well the owner of the domain hasn’t been reachable for nearly 9 months and the domain expired a while back, not much I can do about that, so I pushed everything over to work at the IP level while I reach out and wait - that was 2 months ago while I waited for the owner to renew it or for the domain to fall.
Today the domain fell, so I jumped on to buy it back up only to find its already purchased... 😦
so I find the owner, it’s fucking parked on a shitty “buy me” page with a price tag of $4500 USD. Fuck these slimy hoarding domain parking bastards.
I know the site was on its last legs, low membership and traffic but I’ll be fucked if I’m paying that much to reacquire it. -
So today a client requested that the domain name in the address bar should be all capital letters because of corporate design. Don't get me wrong, this is a valid request for someone who has no experience in the IT world. But he refused to believe me that it wasn't possible. He even claimed that he has seen it at least hundred times and called me incapable. I don't get clients.1

My boss says to me this morning.
Boss: Can you add these links as a redirect 301 to this link.
Me: Ok, I'm not the developer for that domain but I guess I can do it. Let's try to update apache htaccess for that domain through my account.
(After a swift ssh connection to the server to check out that domain.)
Me: Er...boss, we don't own that domain. We cannot redirect it's links to our other domains.
Boss: Why? What do you mean?!
Me: well if we don't own that domain, than it is not on our server and we cannot update it's server config files. So we cannot redirect that domain to our other domains.
Boss: Are you sure?
It went on like this for a while. I had a laugh break after.1 -

I asked my CS teacher why my institutions domain had only the www subdomain pointing to the webspace, but not also the second level domain itself. He then explained me that www is the *protocol* on the internet and it's necessary for the website to be accessible, and that pointing the SLD to the webspace in addition therefore wouldn't work.
How could I ever take him serious again? He's supposed to teach networking btw.2 -

FREE .design domains! 😁
Porkbun is giving away one free .design domain to each customer, after verifying it's legit I had to share - I got a 3 letter domain!
Link: https://goo.gl/Nwx8fW
I always have need for an extra domain or 2 and while .design is a bit long/specific it is quite new so there are lots of short names available (I registered jhb.design - jhb is my city). If you have a sense of humour there are plenty of wordplay options too ( buttugly.design, thatsanice.design).
On top of that they are offering $20 per referral for anyone who registers a .design name for free. This is so good it sounds like a scam so to test it I made the above link an affiliate link in the hope of free beer.
Let me know if you managed to register anything good!7 -

-'Is it possible that you migrate to another demo sub domain? Content production team wants to upload more content on that sub domain '

So, most (if not all) modern operating systems sync their time with some trusted source (like the Internet) right? Windows included. All is well.
When your Windows 10 computers are joined to a domain, it thence relies on your local neighborhood domain controller to tell it the time. Sounds good, since domain controllers Never Go Down, right? All is well.
Services are all being cloud-ified, which means virtual machines. The domain controllers have suffered this fate, but everything is smooth and buttery. All is well.
Wait, the VM's clock is running slow. Uh oh....
Wait, isn't it supposed to ask the Internet?
Well, no. Domain Controllers decide that They Know All, and stop asking the Internet for its opinion.
This causes problems, but only ever so slowly, and it took me noticing all the computers seemed to be ten minutes slow compared to my phone (and well everyone else's phone) to realize what had happened.
Thanks, Windows...9 -

I got my domain from Swisscom (Switzerlands "T-Mobile") Every damn time I try to renew/adjust the domain it feels like I have to search for the fucking Higgs Boson. Searching for it on DDG only yields wrong results. Domains are hidden deep within the business part of their homepage. Their buisness site barely mentions domains, the login is somehow tied to an account you would normally use in combination with your phone number which only adds more to the confusion and the whole domain thing seems to be a shitty frontend coverup of someone elses service.5

I get a free year of web hosting from this web developer course I'm taking on Udemy, so I started setting that up and bought my own domain name from GoDaddy with a promo code. But before I can transfer that domain name to the site I'll be using for hosting I have to wait 2 months.6

Tired of chasing an elusive architecture and finding good community that helps promote it. Basically:
- Not CRUD
- Not MVC
- More like CQRS; commands and queries represent use cases
- Event Sourced; event log is source of truth, everything else is a cached projection
- Functional Domain Design; not DDD; focus on immutability and simplicity
- Functional in general; less OO
- More focus on domain concepts rather than tech concepts
- Domain can be used through CLI, API, or SDK
- UI is just another client to the API
- Authorization is ABAC, graph-based access control
I'm looking for a fucking unicorn.10 -
Sus!
yesterday I bought a cool domain in namecheap, I was very lucky to find short and good one for my case.
Today (at weekends!!!!) I receive a letter:
>Hello **redacted name**,
>
>We are contacting you from the Namecheap Risk Management Team regarding your '**redacted name account**' account.
>
>Unfortunately, your Namecheap account was flagged by our fraud screening system as requiring verification and was locked.
>
>Please follow the instructions below to get your account verified:
>
>- take a color photo of the credit card used for the payment at **redacted link**
>
>Please make sure all of the edges of the credit card are visible, and that we can clearly see the card holder's name, expiration, and last four digits of the card number. The screenshots or images of the card cannot be accepted for verification. >If the submission does not meet these requirements, we can either request to submit the details again or permanently suspend your account.
>
>- provide a valid phone number and the best time to call you (within normal business hours, US Pacific time).
>
>If we do not hear back from you within 24 hours, we will be forced to cancel your orders.
>
>We apologize for any inconvenience that may result from this process. This extra verification is done for your security and to ensure that orders are legitimate. This industry, unfortunately, has a high rate of fraudulent orders, and this sort of >verification helps us drastically reduce fraud and ensure our customers remain secure. Such documents are used for verification only and are not provided to third parties in any way. Account verification is a one-time procedure, after your account >is verified, you will never face this issue again.

what if I did not notice it in 24 hours? It is the weekend for god's sake! People usually rest until monday.
They would what, cancel order and scalpel it to super high price?!
I have some doubts if the request is trully having anti fraudulent origins.
What if I used digital visa card? How was I supposed to photo it?
And the service they provided for photoing accepts only photos from web camera. I was lucky that I bought recently web camera with high enough amount of pixel power and manual focus. What if I did not?
That's all really SUS!
The person can not notice the letter within 24 hours time frame until the morning, when it would be already too late.10 -
Frontend using async calls same way as sync to load json config which contains backend api url. To make calls to backend API and sometimes file is not loaded before they call Api. This results to calling on current domain instead on domain from json file. Moreover, blaming that be is returning incorrect response.2

For crying out loud, no, GoDaddy, you don't just shutdown expired domain without ANY warnings. No!!! Not cool!!!5

How do you keep track of your servers? their credentials/ssh keys, opened ports, services, IP, domain etc?15

Hidden services are extremely cool.
Not having to pay for the "domain" is also really nice.
Now to generate a nice vanity URL...6 -
EVERY FUCKING TIME I HAVE TO ASK FOR SOME DNS CONFIGURATION OTHER THAN A SINGLE "A" RECORD THE TI HEAD MANAGES TO FUCK UP...
WHAT THE FUCK IS SO HARD DUDE???
CNAME? OK!
FUCKINGSUBDOMAIN > FUCKING.ALIAS.COM
THIS TIME OUR FUCKING PROVIDER CANT MANAGE ROOT DOMAIN CNAMES SO WHAT DID HE DO?
SIMPLE SAID "ALL DONE" AND ONE WEEK LATTER PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING BECAUSE THE FUCKING ROOT DOMAIN ISN'T WORKING...
COME ON DUDE, JUST KILL YOURSELF.
AND FOR THE FUCKING MILLIONTH TIME: DOMAIN REGISTAR AND DOMAIN MANAGER ARE TWO SEPARATE FUCKING THINGS! YOU CAN REGISTER YOUR FUCKING DOMAIN ON GODADDY AND MANAGE IT ON FUCKING CLOUDFLARE BY CONFIGURING THE FUCKING DNS SERVERS5 -
I use fucking GoDaddy to manage my domains, just cause, whatever, who cares, right, it's a domain manager, they do have great support.
But everytime I login and try to find a domain, it's like 8 clicks and they try to push their website builder in your face and all kinds of shit.
Can I get a recommendation from a trusted devranter? I want to switch.
I use forge if that matters...
thanks.6 -
when you're in /etc/apache2/sites-available, you want to set up a second domain so you duplicate the config but you type mv instead of cp and discover it after you set up the 'second' domain
fuuuuuuuck1 -
When the domain you want to buy has been taken from a domain-dealer who takes ownership of unused domains. When that dealer sells it for more than 10.000€ but also would accept ... 70€?🤔 When you see that the offer decreases automatically a couple 100€ every once in a while. Let's see how cheap it can get ...9
-
So something sparked the thought at work today, so I checked to see if my name was available as a domain. Turns out both .com and .co.za were avalible. So cheap I couldn't resist
Guess my portfolio has a prettier name now2 -
When I was finding a domain name on godaddy, I got to know that buying domain name and selling it on high price is also a business. All the domain names that I want is now on sale(with premium costs on godaddy). Worth +$120023
-
I just purchased a domain!
einsof.xyz
Gonna use it for my project later on, just happy that this domain is available, and I think it really fits the project I have in mind4 -

Started Data Science course on big data universuty. The outcomes are heavily dependent on domain experts/stakeholders!!! Since all the answers are false positives and need to decide what make sense with the help of domain experts. And most of the Data scientists are not from programming background, they are domain experts who turned into Data scientists. Thoughts if I should continue with learning big data/data science, knowing that I have knowledge in information retrieval and search engines. -
Finnaly got my domain transfered to google domains and I can't figure out how to link my google cloud bucket hooked up so I can access the site from either lxmcf.com or www.lxmcf.com..... well fuck :-)
(In not great at this stuff btw... Obviously)2 -
I made this site which is nice. Its a nice project plus I made this for my own. So I decided to book a domain for it.
Turns out every possible name is booked and it started pissing me off. I mean how positive people are for startups.
They made this a real-state business. Saw land acquire it. You never know which one will be next facebook ha!
Then I hit git.com which was parked too. I thought god bless you and your money.2 -
Back in the day I tried to get the domain conspiracy.com. But a group of powerful elites from around the world banded together to thwart me from getting that domain.

We're looking to change the domain provider we use to register new client's domains to one that has an API.
So far it looks like it'll either be namecheap or AWS's Route 53.
We're also looking for the same thing with mail inboxes.
Do you have any recommendations / experience with either of these?
I was hoping to find a solution that would provide both the domain registration and the mailboxes with no hosting and accessible via API but I've had no such luck.
(Except for maybe two, but neither looked up to date)10 -
I want to change my domain name by moving the actual website files to a new domain. It has 4 articles and has about 700 page views per day. Will search engines blacklist the new site for 'copied' content?2
-
this rant
https://devrant.com/rants/1622672/...
made me realise since I was little, I wanted to register
- my_surname.com (its a Hungarian name but there is a french comic strip on the site lol)
- then i wanted to register my_surname.sk since I'm from Slovakia (nope someone has a chain of petrol stations with this name)
- well its awkward but lets do my_surname.eu (my surname is the name of a traditional Hungarian needlework so no fuck you)
- ok, I'm a Hungarian so lets do my_surname.hu (well fuck you i wont even load, but I'm already taken so..)5 -
Trying to buy a domain on sedo but the guy is looking for $8000!!
What planet is he on it’s 2018 and the domain is quite niche. It’s not exactly pizza.com
Cunts be crazy! -
Startup: Kids buying cheap domain names worth $1 from their pocket money and explain Who they are, and What they do!1

Why in the fuck can't you transfer a domain name for 60 fucking days? This makes no sense. My dumbass purchased a domain from Google Domains and registered it with Google Sites. Now I just realized that Google Sites is useless as fuck. It's more useless than a plastic bag of dicks. The dust on my window seal serve more purpose on this planet than Google Sites. That's how useless Google Sites is. Now I want to switch to Square Space or host it myself but have to wait 60 fucking days.
I could just buy a new domain for 12 bucks but I had the perfect name. Fuck ICANN for their stupid idiotic pointless motherfucking policy. Fuck.1 -
Fuck. I really hate it when someone has a domain I'd like to have, and doesn't do shit with it. Come on! A webpage that says "Live soon"?!
It's like having a subscription to the gym and never go to the gym. Total waste of money and opportunity for someone else to use the domain, just for the sake of "There is the slightest possibility that I maybe want to do something with this domain in the future".
Fuck this shit.3 -
Why not : How school make you love/hate a specific domain in Computers in general ? Like Databases, Model Driven Development, simple coding, whatever3
-
Working on a new tool idea. It's a long & boring process of checking domain availability for multiple name ideas. That's what I'm trying to solve in here ⚡Are you excited?9
-
Damn you OVH... You and your goddamn deals again... Now I ended up buying 2 domains for a project again. We all know I'll leave the domain in my cloudflare "keychain" without using it until it expires, because I'll find a fancier and more fun project 😅
I'm at 12 domains right now... I think I might be addicted 🤔
Btw, theres a sick deal going on over at OVH, .com is only 1,20€... Better get your project domain which you'll probably never use again now 😂4 -
I was just curious but don't need it, the domain would be great for a personal blog/portfolio. First come first serve.
Your welcome. -
Contemplating buying a domain for 1€/year for my personal projects.
I don't even need it really. I'd just mess around with it and attach it to a random vps or something, just for fun.
My hands are itching. Please stop me!6 -
What do you put on your website these days if you don't have a service to offer or recent projects to show off?
Imho portfolios are just weird (i'm also not in the need of one) and my domain choice (milotic.io) was made kinda drunken, too.
Any ideas?2 -
Anyone else currently in an auction for a .dev domain? If so, how much would you be willing to spend on it? And how much do you want it?
I'm currently in a closed auction for <firstname>.dev and there seem to be 2 bidders including me, the price is still $155 -
Has anyone ever bought a domain and left your info public?
It amazes me that these spammers can't even make their emails read well or professional ah oll
Like "Google top page)"
Did you really not see that parentheses there?3 -
Fuck all those fuckers that buy domain and try to sell them for shit load of cash. I don't even have a problem if you sell it for a few thousands of dollars. But I just contacted some fucker who owns a worthless domain cachet.com, and he is trying to sell it for over hundred thousand dollars. Why the fuck. I have a feeling that this guy is brain dead or something. Fucking cunt7
-
Holy fuck I'm tired of domain.com... I bought my domain with them about a year ago, and quickly I discovered how shit they are.
I can almost never access the console, the default view most of the time loads, although even that is incredibly slow. When the console loads, all settings regarding my domain are just loading. Every once in a blue moon I can actually access the settings and do something.
I got tired of it, and started transferring the domain to Cloudflare. That's where I messed up, and didn't know I had to verify the transfer twice, so the domain ended up expiring during the transfer process. Now domain.com has my domain completely locked down, pointing it to one of those 'expired' nameservers.
So three days ago I thought fuck it, I'll pay domain.com to renew the domain, maybe that'll get the domain transferred, or at least get my domain open again, so I can receive emails again, because in all my nerdiness I decided to set up a custom email using 'name@customdomain.com'. So I haven't been able to receive any emails for two weeks now.
Anyway, three days later the status of the domain is still 'pending renewal', and I can't for the life of me figure out how something like this isn't completely automated, and the domain isn't just working again.
So just now I decided to contact their live chat, and even they can't change the nameservers on my domain, and I have to be transferred to a specialist, who will then contact me by mail within 24-48 hours. Fuck I hate domain.com, and I'll certainly never buy from them again4 -
i have a question for you. You work for an industry, a factory, in house. You have only one developer to help you.
They ask you for an app to store production and get reports. Ok
Then before a year passed, they want you to start making apps for: project managment, hr 360 evaluation, implementation of SSO without paying a third party service (like auth0 or okta)
Would you feel comfortable, even if the proper time was given, to get involved with so many different domains without anyone above you having any idea about software lifecycle and development?4 -
Can somebody recommend me a good domain hoster?
I'm currently at Dynadot but unfortunately the .me domain I want costs 9.00$, I saw some other cheaper hosts so I thought I'd ask for your recommendations.
Thanks in advance!5 -
So if you need a vulgar email domain have look at cock.li it's brilliant and those domains haha

When you create a website how do you get it with your choosen domain in the internet, do you need own server or something?8
-
Why does nobody use company/school name here when they say in which domain they work? Is it a taboo?3
-
Just a random question: how much does it cost to retain a domain name?
I know we can rent a domain name for like an year or such for $5-10 if its a unique one. After 1 year, we have to pay an increased amount for every subsequent year (which keeps on increasing i guess?)
So how does these new emerging companies ( or any company in general ) retail their domain rights? For eg paypal.com would have costed only a few bucks when first bought, but when the company got famous, its domain rent must have increase by a 1000 times. So does these big companies pay millions of dollars just to retain their domain name?8 -
Bit of advice people, ALWAYS pay for the privacy option when registering a domain, I bought this yesterday, I have already emptied my spam box, and yet still they somehow get through1
-
Reset 900 domain service account credentials, placed them in a vault, and updated over 6000 items on our domain leveraging those credentials saturday night. 99% success rate today when we opened for business. What did you do this weekend ?4

I'm a fool.
Trying to delete local version of domain account:
Supposed to use command:
net user [username] /delete
Tried:
net user "domain\user" /delete
Didn't work, came up with help which said an option was net user [/delete] [/domain]
So I decided to try:
net user "user" /delete /domain
... "The request will be processed at a domain controller for domain domain.local.
The command completed successfully."
Well FUCK
So now the user's account has been deleted on AD, trying to restore it but AD management tools aren't picking up AD's object so I can't find the tombstone.
SHIITTTTTTTTT :((
TL;DR: I've fucked a user's account and can't find what I need to fix it.
Moral: Don't be a fool like me.6 -
Fuck GoDaddy. Such a cheap ass company. Charging same price for domain renewal as first time purchase.8
-
Found a nice domain name, and I intend to buy it to host my personal website and maybe blog (if I get around to write one day). But now a great question arises: where do I buy it?
Do you have any advice on a cheap and nice registrar and hosting provider?14 -
Guess one thing that is common between humans and your email domain?
They both require good reputation to survive :P2 -
Been getting emails all fucking week like this, even had 4 seperate phone numbers call me up from a private or unknown number, guys, fuck off, please.
Think I need to have a chat to my domain host as to why people are getting my fucking phone number and personal email!6 -
Finally my portfolio.....

Anyone has an idea how I can change the domain name using CNAME?7 -
Just found out Google Domains is being shutdown and all domain registrations sold to Squarespace. Somebody should be hanged for this..16

Sorry for my noob question. Too scared to post in stackoverflow.
I have a domain for my website from namecheap.my website is made with springboot and hosted on my homeserver port 80
I pointed my domain to publicip:80.never works fine except when i put my domain name in the address bar it redirected to my ip and shows the ip in the address bar.
Am I missing any steps?do i need to do something in my embedded tomcat server?13 -
TLDR
Apparently if you delete your google account as an only admin of a workplace by just clicking remove account on expired subscription screen when you are on document page you not only loose access to google workplace but also you can create new workplace google account using same domain and email immediately and it’s fresh google domain account without domain verification and with everything wiped off from your old account. So you don’t have access to anything but on the other side there is possibility to use gmail as spam hub if google fucked ip something in their dns verification and once verified and after that expired domain gets bought again it stays verified.
Well I luckily migrated my gmail to other provider 3 years ago and I lost nothing important there but lol.
You can easily lock out yourself from your domain.
I opened ticket using some questionnaire and by adding another dns txt record to my domain to claim access to workplace admin page and let’s see what they do.
If they ever respond to that ticket and how long it will take to get it resolved.
This is good test to see if google is still a people’s company or an evil corporation.
I was using workplace as long as it was free from days of google app engine and begging of cloud revolution. I remember at best times I could chat with google support employee about spam I got from domain registered on google servers and he was processing ticket for me.2 -
Worst coding mistake was assuming that the NameCheap domain API was an update and not a replacement. I went to added a test sub domain to our company domain and it cleared out 40 unique sub domains taking down our sites and email until I could manually add them back.1
-
Working with a client (who is a "techie") to authenticate mailchimp for their domain. After a week of fumbling about and with pressure building, the domain registrar claims to have set the correct DNS settings and to get pressure off him, he writes an email saying,
"CNAME has been added ask mailchimp to propagate on their end". FML -
where do you guys register your domains? :) i plan to seperated mine from my hosting provider.
namecheap looks good - any pros/cons i have to consider?7 -
this could be the start of a short series - special moments of finding a domain
fyip.net leads to a cosmetic company website whereas i think of this being an acronym for "fuck you in particular"2 -
How would you approach choosing a fairly short but meaningful domain name? Common words are obviously going to be taken.
I have a handful of domain names used for different things, but my main one is 17 characters long and made up of 2 words and not particularly interesting (my surname + another word). It's relatively easy to read out to people over the phone, but inputting it in a phone handset or on a device without a keyboard (e.g. setting the hostname + domain of a media centre with a remote control) is a bit tiresome.
Doesn't even have to be something I can say easily as I mainly want it just for "infrastructure" purposes rather than to host a website etc.
I'd probably use it for sign-up e-mails to reduce the amount of spam/newsletter mail (I do generate a separate address for signing up to most services) but other than that wouldn't be using it regularly for e-mail.
But I don't want something meaningless like abcxyz.1 -
Here's a quickie that grinds my gears.
When a piece of software asks me for the a hostname but expects a fqdn and when the bloody thing automatically fills in a fqdn into the hostname field!
doesmyheadin.my.domain
HOSTNAME = doesmyheadin
DOMAINNAME = my.domain
FQDN = doesmyheadin.my.domain
If I'm wrong about this I fully accept it, but these are the standards I've been using which to me make perfect sense!
Bloody nonsensical bullshit modifiers.3 -
Why did Jason cover himself with bubble wrap?
Because he wanted to make a cross-domain JSONP request. -
Test Driven Development, Pattern Driven Development, Domain Driven Development, Design Domain Driven Development.
When do we eventually get to the development part??3 -
Any recommendations for moving a blog?
My wife and I just cancelled our account with siteground hosting a WordPress blog. Looking for a cheaper alternative. Willing to get my hands dirty as a web dev, but would like a nice CMS experience for my wife. Also want to keep our existing content. If we can keep our custom domain somehow that would be a win.
Thanks!7 -
Me, enables SSL on one domain with cloudflare all went well, even added origin ssl all good.
Friends domain, set up the right and same way, but server says no i have no idea what www.examaple.com is, ... I never created a key for that wtf so right now website are dead .. thanks cf3 -
What email service are you using for your domains? I used zoho for a while, but those assholes keep randomly locking my accounts (an email always activates those again, but fuck knows how much emails I missed during not noticing it) - thought about going with the general hype of Tutanota around here, but it seems like it doesn't really support multiple custom domain mailboxes? Also tried just now msgsafe.io - it seems fine, but the way it handles multiple domain mailboxes is just disgusting, because it just throws them all together and you have to "filter" to get mails from only one domain.26
-
Interesting how SEO agencies often feel the need to 'rebrand' when their domain is penalised by Google
-
Any suggestions for good reading regarding the boundaries of Microservices? By this I mean a domain driven design approach.
I have a pretty good idea of what I “think” is right for my project. But something is telling me to challenge my idea.
For a little bit of background... I am using separate DBs for each Microservices, and building APIs to access the information across the system.2 -
Fuck domain re-sellers who don't know what they're doing, you fucking moron you do not need DNS if the Service provider is same as domain and hosting, all you had to do was to change A record with @/${Insert IP Address here} values, it's taking you ages to do that, fucking idiots.
I will probably ask to transfer the domain name to my account if that is possible.9 -
when setting up SSO with LDAP on a customer's system they tell me to use a different domain than the one that everything resides on. tell them it won't work because when I did a nslookup and this other domain none of the domain controllers are listed. today SSO starts working out of nowhere and they claim they didn't change anything. did a nslookup and see the domain controllers. looks like someone fixed their mistake but didn't want to admit they made one lol.

Just wasted whole day with plesk webhosting :D
Decided to move to a DDOS protected hosting by OVH.com
Chose plesk web hosting
Turns out in order to park domain to plesk webhosting it's necessary to change GLUE records and nameservers to point to plesk VPS IP
My domain registrar where I have 10+ domains does not allow changing GLUE records. Only way to make it work would be to move all domains to new registrar and pay for each domain as it's a new one.
FML just wasted 16 euros on this useless plesk webhosting. Need to take regular webhosting :D3 -
Pardon my ignorance but is what I'm trying to do even possible?
I have a WordPress network and have domain mapping setup. So the original was domainA.com/map and the new is domainB.com. Is there a way for me to keep both the old sub directory and new domain without redirects.
If not oh well.7 -
Does anyone recommend this book: https://kobo.com/us/en/...
Just want to learn more about Domain Driven Design.3 -
1) DevGoogle - Google but all queries assume programming sense of query. Also option to add preferred language(s)
2) a universal file system so that my pen drive works on all devices
3) Firewall filter unblocks my personal domain (currently classified as 'Newly Observed Domain') -
sorry for not ranting but im quite anxiously looking for a talk about Domain Driven Design. I think it was from Eric Evans but the ones I found yet arent it. he has a very speqking example of shipping which he usus throughout his talk, speaking in front of quite a big crowd, interacting with the crowd and no desk or anything in front..... Is there anyone who knows which talk I mean? Infinite kudo's to he who does!1

Not quite dev-related, but I once had to migrate and replace a Windows Server 2003 Domain (1 DC) to a new Windows Server 2016 Domain Controller. The network consisted of about 30 PCs, 1 DC and 1 DB Server.
Eventhough it worked, I wouldn't do it again... 😰
At the beginning I almost deleted the old Domain Controller VM from the old ESXi host server, before any VM backup existed. Close one... -
.com domains used to be like $1 or $2 a year during the pandemic now they’re $6 and the price will go up in September :(2

I need some help with parking a domain in ovh.com webhosting. It's a real pain in the ass so any input is strongly appreciated. I kinda figured out what todo already, but still need some clarification.
Normally after buying a webhosting all I would need to do is login to my domain registrar's website and in the control panel just change nameservers to webhosting nameservers and that's all. Webhosting provider would take care of the rest (subdomain creation, e-mail creation and etc.) But because OVH are assholes, they support this type of domain parking only for domains registered at OVH.
For external domains, procedure is as follows:
For the configuration to function, you will need to make the following adjustments with the current provider:
Insert a TXT record for the domain ovhcontrol.mydomain.com with the value jwyPolzgrZyIShzaQItqw
Point the A record of your domain mydomain.com to 51.244.97.19
Point the A record of your domain www.mydomain.com to 51.244.97.19
So basically I had to login to registrars cPanel and first of all I had to park my domain back to my registrar (I had to switch to default nameservers which are provided by domain registrar)
Only then I got advanced access to dns zone in order to add the required records above.
When I open my domain registrars dns zone cpanel this is what I see:
http://prntscr.com/nekx40
So basically, as I understand, I just need to add these required records like this?
http://prntscr.com/nekxjc
Am I correct?
So basically my OVH webhosting doesn't deal with dns zone at all, I will have to use my own registrar for adding subdomains?
What about e-mail addresses? OVH doesnt allow me to create emailboxes for "externally" parked domain addresses. Will I have to search for some e-mail provider, and add some additional records?
Any input/help would be appreciated.1 -
Reverse ip domain look up and reverse ip lookup are two different things or same ??
Can anyone explain both if they are different 🤔5 -
So In Domain Driven Design, it is okay to have methods in your domain class to load children (lists) on demand? Example: Your aggregate root is Person. Then a person has a list of books that they’ve read. Is it okay to load that list of books by using person.GetBooks(); instead of loading the books when the person is initialized?2
-
Am thinking of hosting an e-commerce web app but also get the benefits for google apps for work.....
any idea for the reliable and affordable service??1 -
Did any of you have found a viable and reliable email hoster for custom domains that doesn't force you to transfer your domain(just setup the DNS records properly)?
And that can make programmatically possible write emails?13 -
I'm trying out some stuff I read. I have rich domain models with private fields. In order to create EF core entities my domain models create snapshots with public properties.
So 3 models - domain, snapshot, entity.
Now I am thinking about introducing a fourth for the API.
This seems mental and that I have misunderstood something. Automapper might help clean this up. -
is it seo, if i post my domain here? I mean i could just throw some keywords in here like Webdesigner Köln Bonn Homepage and such, then say: visit www.robinoehler.de and it would be a valid Backlink for free to my domain.. am I right?5
