I just started working on a little project to browse devrant from terminal. It converts images to ascii art!43
-
Brain, stop. Please just stop coming up with new ideas for one fucking second.
I wish I could implement them all but I have never finished a side project ever.
Please. Just. Fucking. Give. Me. A. Fucking. Rest. Right. Now. And. Stop, Coming. Up. With. New. Project. Ideas.
😫😡25 -
Just built a custom retropi for the boyfriend for his bday. Custom paint, button, box, splash screen, and games. Fun little project.17
-
So a client wanted me to work on a 6 month project for just 300$. Some people really need to learn the value of time and effort18
-
Dream project? Create a social network for devs where they can rant. Just need to think of a name.
What do you mean it already exists!?!
😁2 -
You ever sit down to start working on a project, get all your imports and variables set up, and then just completely lose all motivation to even press a key?11
-
Just learnt Node JS a week back for a personal project. Started working on it and had to get hospitalized for Dengue. Feeling like a helpless non tech guy without my laptop 😓10
-
That feeling of when you finish a year long project, showing it off to family and getting a "huh that's it?" response. I just poured all being into this, it's okay. 😐3
-
This is a fucking mess!!!
Refactor?!?!?!?!
Fuck it...
File > New Project
Yeah, fuck it. It'd be easier to just start over.8 -
Got stuck on a project for a whole day. Just got out of bed, start my computer, got a cup of coffee and in 5 minutes I found the problem.
Just amazing what a well rested body can do.7 -
Is just mine or every project manager thinks that developers are magicians and can actually develop stuff in a very unrealistic timeline.?8
-
I was just trying to fix a "bug" for 2 hours and then found out I only had to "clean" to project..6
-
Last night I dreamt that I had done a large project for a customer.
Upon delivery the customer said:
"Now we just need you to deploy it, and then we're gonna sue Facebook."
"Nooo!", I thought to myself. "I used react for the project!"
It was a true licensing nightmare.3 -
I just had a major breakthrough on a project 😊
Just standing there chatting with my dad (also a dev), while preparing for the new years feast, and got this amazing idea that I just had to try. 30 minutes later I'm done with the script and it works flawlessly 😊😅5 -
whY CAN'T I STICK TO A PROJECT I JUST SWITCH BETWEEN 5 AND MAKE A TEMPORARY NEW ONE EVERY COUPLE WEEKS I JUST WANT TO FINISH SOMETHING6
-
Working with a team of 5 for a college project.
Told them how to use GitHub.
Guess what.
Fuck you and fuck GitHub, they are sending me Dropbox links to download project (npm modules included).
I’m out, fuck this class and fuck college i just can’t6 -
Project Managers be like "hey bruh, I just wanted to put a meeting half way through your crunch for a deadline to make sure we can meet that dead line"4
-
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
A pull request I made to an actual open source project got merged. I might actually be a real dev now!
(It was just to remove a snippet config, but still!)7 -
My first contribution to a GitHub project was finally merged to the master branch today! It was just a bug fix but it’s a start!!11
-
Just solved two huge bugs in a private project without using Stack Overflow... Since when am I even able to do this? What happened to me?2
-
He put just a zip in the new branch. I thought it was going to be the actual fucking project like I asked him to. Nope just a damn zip for me to extract and push to github correctly
Fucking hell12 -
Boss: don't worry about the architecture, it's an one-off project, just make it work...
2 months later...
Boss: hey, remember that one-off project? we need to add in a few more features... Also can we reuse that code for this new one-off project we have to do for this new client?3 -
Finally thought I had a good project idea.
It's already been done and is a large site. 200k users.
WHY CAN'T I JUST COME UP WITH SOMETHING UNIQUE FOR ONCE?15 -
Me: "Inherits a project"
Me: "Reads code"
Me: "Mom, pls put me back to kindergarten, I just wanna color drawing books again"1 -
1. Comes up with a project idea.
2. Doesn't have enough friends who code to collaborate said idea with.
3. Abadons project.
All in that order. lol
I just want to build cool stuff. :(10 -
!rant
I just cleaned a project in the repo and got the build size down to 4.7Mb from 6.2Mb. The feeling of ecstasy!!7 -
Contributed to a open source project for the first time what hasn't been updated in 3 years and my pull request was just accepted!5
-
Alright I get the importance of project planning but having a Sprint meeting at 7am is just insane.1
-
Power-out inspired pi project!
Just a simple flashlight. Brightness and color can be controlled by the joystick. It runs off a phone battery pack5 -
That moment when you get a great idea for a side project, and you know you don't have the needed skills yet, but you don't care 'cause it just means you're gonna have to learn more... just awesome 😍3
-
Today on "I'm Not Crazy, I'm Just a Burnt Out Dev".
Project Manager: "What day would prefer to demo your work?"
Me: "Tomorrow or Wednesday"
Project Manager: "Tomorrow is Wednesday"
Me: "O"
Project Manager: "O"
Me: 🤝
Project Manager: 🤝
Anyone else having problems remembering which day of the week it is? 😂😂rant help early alzheimers forgetfulness short story possibly suffering from dementia rpa burnt out okbye 👋 me project demo5 -
Just got a signed contract for a new client's project. PLEASE don't be crooks! PLEASE pay me on time. PLEASE don't make my life miserable. Like the last one did.2
-
"Hey Jamcris11,
Be apart of our cool programming project?"
"Hell yeah, sign me up".
Three weeks later.
Proceeds to me being the only person contributing to the project in anyway (despite having a full time job meaning little spare time).
Guy who invited me in the first place just plays fucking Minecraft all day (he doesn't have a job or college,) puts no effort into the project at all.22 -
Sitting down for an entire weekend with a couple of friends, just to work on a side project.
No deadline, just fun. And beer, lots of beer 😅6 -
!rant
Those feelings you get when you deploy a large integration project that’s taken over a month to build and it just works 🤗2 -
Have you ever just worked on a project for so long that you just can’t stay motivated in it? Like you enjoy the project itself but the process of not knowing when it’ll be finished kills the motivation? Is this a normal feeling?14
-
I'm a junior developer working on a project that's completely out of my scope. I've missed deadline after deadline and my boss + the customer are getting very pissed off and impatient. This project has got me feeling sick. I'm not sleeping well and honestly thinking about leaving my job just because of this 1 project.
I've tried speaking with my manager but she just says, complete it ASAP to the best of your ability. It will take me months to get it right but I am really struggling.
I'm just looking for some advice please? Has anyone else been through this? Do you think leaving is stupid?
Thank you ranters 😃13 -
*receives email about project*
*turns around*
PM: "Hey I just sent you an email about a project"
No. Fucking. Shit.3 -
FUCK FUCKING FUCK NETBEANS MESSED UP SO I DELETED A PROJECT I'VE JUST BEN WORKING ON FOR THE PAST DAY AND I CAN'T RECOVER IT FUUUUUUUUUUUU6
-
I just had a developer tell me “I’m switching the language of the project from React to HTML”...................... ok.8
-
Please actually pay attention to compiler warnings. They exist for a reason beyond just being a nuisance. If you're willingly ignoring warnings then you're accepting unnecessary risk into your project.4
-
After serveral weeks of stress, bug hunting, despair and fun - I JUST COMPLETED A PROJECT MILESTONE !!
Time for a reward :]3 -
Me starting a project: Okay I'm stuck with this project I'll just shelve this for now
[3 weeks later]
*comes back to project*
*find a solution with problem I came stuck with*
WHAT THE FUCK BRAIN WHY DID IT TAKE YOU 3 WEEKS TO HELP ME FIX SHIT WRYYYYY7 -
I just converted a massive project from C to cuda, I renamed everything, and it just worked.
What the fuck have I done wrong?3 -
My Unreal project right now:
FVector
std::vector
Eigen::Vector
KDL::Vector
....
*sigh*
And people ask me why I like Lisp. A Vector is a Vector goddamit! Half my project is now just parsing the same variable to the different functions. sigh....I hate this.6 -
Project Manager comments on all my on-going tickets "any updates?"
And the project manager gets awarded "most productive"
While the tickets I've been assigned can't be closed in just a day
smh4 -
One guy left the company and left me nodeJS project to maintain. It has a file with just a few lines short of 1700 lines of code.14
-
I just came back from a meeting to a project that integrates some companies to achieve the project goals.
There was this "computer/data scientist" (his words) that every time he talked I just wanted to punch him in the throat.
Look, I'm not saying he isn't good or anything. He can be a fucking genius, I don't care.
But he talks as if he is the smartest person on the room, fucking annoying.2 -
!rant
Wanted to share a project with you, which I heard about at a Python Conference I attended.
It's a Raspberry based Hacking Station to educate and sensitize students about data privacy. The amazing thing about the project is, that it is a graduation project from a high school student.
If you're interested, check out spypi.ch
This is not an ad or something, I was just amazed by the talk and the idea of the project and wanted to share it with you.1 -
Just found there is an alternative to create-react-app with parcel. It's called create-react-app-parcel or in short CRAP.
To initialise a new project you even do
crap sample-project
Nice!2 -
Programming with a best friend. Knocked out a project in no time. Just a friendly race between friends.
-
I spent 4 hours finding a good way to instanciate golang structures. Came up with a function that returned a value or pointer and I just kept reusing the nomenclature for an entire project. Then my buddy looks over and goes, "Ethan, you're a f****** idiot", and shows me the standard nomenclature. Now I have to refactor my entire project. FML.
(Edit: typo)13 -
Been taking a course on php and I'm currently working through a cms project. It's just so satisfying learning how all the data communicates from frontend to backend.4
-
In the middle of a project, the word "just" is an offensive four letter word.
Can we JUST make this small change?
JUST slip that feature in here.
I'm sure you can think of some more.6 -
I should be saving money as a student. Wait, let me just buy that domain name real quick for my new project first.3
-
Actually just got a bit of a project request with a 7 day deadline.
OK, great, but I'm on vacation for 5 of those days. -
I can't take a (C++) project seriously if it is using Visual Studio's build system instead of autotools, CMake or even just a Makefile.8
-
Just wanted everyone to know that I did a find and replace all in my project and it actually worked as intended.
That's all.8 -
Just decided to revive my old, dead and unappreciated project. Even bought a domain for it. So hyped!
...why am I doing this?5 -
Just lied to a client about meeting up to discuss a project. I called in sick, but I am just too tired and didn’t do anything on the project for a week. I have blood on my hands now. I will have to see him tomorrow though.2
-
I just did a code review on an old project of mine. 10k lines altogether. 5.7k TODO's. I can't even.4
-
that moment when you finish your project literally a minute before deadline, just before entering the presentation room6
-
I just discovered that a couple rants here talked about an open source project of mine 😍
Also, they were !rants 😄
Thanks for appreciating it! 😄5 -
Just bought this bad boy. I'm planing to run a virtual test lab. Needs some hard drives though. Any project idea are welcome.5
-
I just joined devrants and starting my rant here with a dig at the Project Managers I have worked with.4
-
Have an 'anger' project open to the side, so when you get annoyed or tired of the paid work, take a quick break and jump into that project to clear your head, even if it is just a simple command line tool, done it before and it's quite a good thing from experience
-
Just taken over a project from a "high end" London agency to find their code is just poorly copy/pasted examples from the WordPress codex.2
-
Just got a new project from a client. Can't wait to complete it in the very last minute possible..3
-
A client just asked to reduce the budget on a project, which I have already delivered. fml. Also, I had a look at wakatime, and realised that I've spent over 100 hours on this project.4
-
During my internship.
Got wonderful opportunity to present a project to a senior Director of a different team.
And just moments before meeting, my project stopped working.
Was a disaster.
Later came to know there were internal issues in the service I was using in my project.
Though not my fault, but during the meeting, I managed to show a video of the project.
Let me know if folks wants to know what happened later..3 -
When you are working on a project and suddenly you just want to work on another project
So now you're just working while tHiNkInG aBoUt oThEr pRoJeCt
I am CONFUSION4 -
My freelance horror story just happened a few weeks ago. Programming final project was due and a classmate payed me to make his project. It was something very simple so I was able to make mine and his different and functional. Grades went up yesterday; he got an A and I got a B+ 🙃 #wk861
-
I created this Pet lost and found app (only available in my country for now) , written in Flutter (client side), elixir (backend), MySql (dB).
Just a small project for a charity organizations.
Just in case the gif is not moving https://youtu.be/oO5Q7xS7rOQ3 -
I made my very first pull request to a project of public interest.
It's just a paragraph in the React docs, but still.
I feel like a useful person.11 -
I just picked up a project from a person that no longer works at the company.
Every single commit for the past year has been the exact same message "SOME UPDATES" 😫6 -
Gotta love it when you've just hit your pace with a project and then the requirements change...
Three times in a row...3 -
My project manager just had a project review at a bar because there was no space at the office. There are literally so many people at the office that we're out of chairs. And space. In a few days three more developers are scheduled to arrive. I don't know where we will put them.3
-
So I just finished a little web design project that I created a while back.
Its a simple clock widget that highlights different words to create a sentence that describes the time.
I originally made it a few months ago, but never got around to finishing it up.
You can check it out at timeclock.ml
Just a little project that I though I would share!1 -
I gave my project manager a prototype of the ocr app we're developing to play with, just for fun. The next morning, I enter the office to see this along with a well structure spreadsheet with some 40 columns.
Never underestimate the seriousness of a project manager.2 -
I recently started working on a 3 months old project, that was outsourced to two Indians genius. One of them left just before I arrived.
I had the chance to discover those guys were not using any version control system, just exchanging a zip file. I don’t even talk about the codebase, never seen such a mess …
Even better the project managers, were not using any IT program to follow the project advancement, but just Excel!!!
After a few days I realised that the remaining dev was not committing anything, the guy was always lying, (so many people died around him + some emergencies)
So, the guy got fired, but don’t worry management found new genius to save the project 🙂
Can someone tell me if outsourcing is really working?7 -
Started a large own project more than a month ago and still not abandoned it. Just realized that this is my biggest achievement.3
-
Just remembered the CIO wanted to discuss a project with me when I "got a moment". That was 4 months ago... and I work somewhere else now. Oh well.
-
I just wanted to create a simple React project with Sass: 118 MB. Ow. Well...
React himself is just 116 KB.2 -
Guess I'll fuckin try again tomorrow.
Building a cross platform c program. On Linux side, just using a makefile. Today I tried using visual studios "clone" feature for git. It just downloads the files and makes them available to the editor, it doesn't make a project, obviously.
But this has some disadvantages. For one, you can't build, or run. Two, you don't get any project properties. My project needs to set the character encoding to Unicode. Can't do that without a project.
So I use their tool to create a project from existing code. It didn't really work. The build profiles were janky at best and I still couldn't set the character encoding.
Ended up just deleting the whole thing.4 -
So this just happened. A friend whom I made a little project for came to me like "hey man that project thing just gives a white page". It's written upon the old version of a framework I'm still writing. After a few minutes I found out that it's failing to load all core modules. Turns out there was a file in the core modules directory with the .save extension. Never thought I'd have to take that into consideration in my code!
-
How many project managers does it take to change a lightbulb? None, they'll just schedule a meeting to discuss the lighting strategy.3
-
For every business you don't like, you should make a competitor GNU project just to piss them off 👍1
-
Colleague: looks perfect
Project manager: make it a little better
Client: I don't care. Just show me the godamn data!2 -
I fucking love https://datatables.net/ I haven't given it another look for a while, after discovering it ages ago and have been always implementing that all on my own, now I can just slap it into any project and have search, filters, pagination and more handled for me, what a fucking awesome project1
-
Me: *working on a project for a year solo*
Management: Let's move development to consultants
Me: I don't think we'll profit from that
Management: Yes let's do it anyways
Me: *switching between project management and working on another project for 6 weeks*
EMERGENCY MEETING
Management: We're not getting enough output
Me: What did I say?
I'm so fucking tired of this project fuckery. Cred to my boss, she's great, but this time they should've just listened to me.2 -
I am getting paid just to develop a FYP project for two students.
After 3 weeks;
"When are you gonna do the charts, use cases etc?"
"WTF?"2 -
Docker is awesome for minimizing environment problems.
Current side project needed a database, a web server with php and a transpiler server running. Before, other people developed using XAMPP on windows. I dockerized the project and have now just one build script setting up everything the app needs, regardless of the underlying operating system.1 -
I wanted to rant but I just been moved from a governemental project in Python 2, to a shiny one on Python 3. Have a good day you too!
-
If you have plans to open source one thing, just start it open source from scratch. It’s extremely painful to remove business logic of a closed source project.
-
Yesterday was release day for a project, never been too nervous like I am now, why? Because of the amount of chaos in this project, I cannot predict the behavior of the system, anything might just break T_T5
-
Taking charge of an existing project...
Me: "This certificate requires a password. Can you send it to me"
Other dev who was earlier responsible for the project : "Just use the default one"
Me: " And what's that?"
Other dev: "CHANGEIT"! All caps
Me: 😐 -
P L E A S E
Do not just teach them on how to program. Teach them on how to properly write a documentation and how to properly execute a project. Like, don't start coding directly. Teach how to plan a project properly especially on estimation. (lol)4 -
Just opened a month old android studio project and now I'm wondering what the hell is going on. And later realize the importance of comments. :-(3
-
Starting something called Project R.A.I.N.
Raspberry
And
I.D.E.
N.A.S.
In simpler terms... a raspberry pi NAS lol. Just wanted a cool name4 -
Working on big project during summer paid intership. A lot stuff I have learned there, not just programming, but also model design, team planning etc.2
-
Taking advice from devRant and just working on some documentation for hacktoberfest. Well until I can find a project that I want to add code to1
-
Devops (By Azure) is so stupid.... (I won';t even start of YAML, it will be a 10pages rant).
me : Ok I have 5 projects, each has it's own Azure conexxion for deploy.
Me : Can I do just ONE shared connexion ?
Devops : Yes. You need to click 150 buttons and it's done !
Me : Ok. /* doing actions */
Me : Ok ready !
Me : Project 1 do your release pipeline !
project 1 : Sure, just wait 5 minutes.
5 minutes later
Project 1 : All good.
Me :Ok now sharing test ! Project 2 : do your pipeline !Project 2 : Sure ! It's strated !
Me : Ok I'll go take a beer
... 1 hour later..
Me : project 2 ? PROJECT 2??!!!
Me : fine... going into logs.
Message : You must accept the shared conexion from Project 1 before pipeline can run
Me : WTF ? I literally just SHARED it to project 2,3,4,5 !!!
Why that idiot check ?!
One thing is sure, I hate devops more than I hate JavaScript.5 -
All classes (with a few exceptions) have nothing but static methods just so that I can call them like "Class::Method()" from anywhere in the project...5
-
When you get pulled into a co-workers project before Christmas and then he takes holidays forcing you to do overtime to finish his project... that's just great
-
Are there any other developers out there that start getting scared when a project actually starts gaining traction? No? Just me?2
-
I've just taken over what seemed like a simple PHP project, but under the hood, I've discovered that it contains 132 CSS and 719 JS files.4
-
!rant
Just bumped into a repo that produces a mock shell with commands as a 404 page. Thought it might fit with someone's project.
It still has bugs (not work on mobile Safari) but that's an opportunity to get involved in an open-source project, no?
http://jotaen.net/jBZuH/...2 -
Really need to find a small project to work on, every other small project I start turn's itself up to 11 in scope and ends up getting shelved -.-
Why can't i just keep things small!
Plus any other project that stays small ends up requiring something complicated that I've never done, why do I do this to myself...4 -
Just ran "rm -rf <project_folder>" instead of "rm -rf <project_folder>/Library/PackageCache"
I'm almost afraid to open the project itself right now
I stopped it like a second later, but still it has deleted some project configuration :(6 -
i am at the point of deep depression again as a CS student. a few weeks back and forward is a busy weeks with a lot of team projects/research. as always, team project never be as smooth as i expect, I always who be the one who work in the project with the rest of the team and they doesn't even care what the project does.
also a few week forward there will be a Leadership Training, and i just quit from it, why ? because i need sleep. why again ? BECAUSE I AM THE *ONLY* ONE WHO WORK ON THE PROJECT YOU FUCKING DIPSHIT, i am the one who can't sleep everyday working on the project scraping the deadline and class hour.
why i drop important thing (Leadership Training) just to keep me from depriving my sleep and to keep the project up while the team disregard me? am i being too humble yet i just rant about "don't be too humble".
..i...i just... I just can't take it anymore. :( god help me15 -
So I had this classmate of mine and we agreed to be partners in a project.
She told me she'll take care of the project and let me just do my other stuffs.
We had the highest grade for the project presentation and she boasted how she made that project of ours to the class.
Some students from other class wants to have a copy of our project as their reference (since our class is the first to present) but my partner declined to give them some. She said it was her who made the project from the scratch.
I had my friends from other class and I decided to help them. We had our overnight the next day searching for at least the concept of our project and guess what?
I stumbled upon a certain site and found the source code of our project. Her code and the code from the site are almost the same!
Think she just changed the variable name HAHAHAHA2 -
We just started a new project at work
The best part: You can't break production if it doesn't exist yet!1 -
company lands huge enterprise project
promises client to deliver it in MIN_TIME_REQUIRED/4
No architect, no technical lead, no seniors, no designer just juniors and interns in the project.
all the project time wasted by manager making shit decisions and not giving a fuck what devs have to say about how project will be disaster if goes like this.
Now the project is officially under raging fire
Boss to dev : What happend to the project. Why are things not working?
Dev: You made decisions not us.
Boss: I don't buy it. Work 24hrs until this is done.
Dev: F*** you and this project. I am resigning. -
Visual studio is rather silly.
In one project, just changing the character set to unicode was enough for the program to work.
In another project, exact same code, I also needed to add a command-line argument to enable unicode.
Isn't. That. Just. Silly.4 -
So I had a piece of software crash on me earlier today...
I think "No problem, this was built internally and I saw the source code somewhere around here. 👍"
Locate source code...6 folders ("Project--v1.0--stable-2012", "Project 1.0", "Project 2.0", and a few others like it). Took me 20 minutes just to figure out which folder was used to build the project/exe. Turns out, none of the above. 👎
Had these people never heard of source control before?! 😣1 -
Forked a project of GH, which will remain nameless, and ran into this beauty...
// Not actual code, just respresientative...
{true ? <Component /> : null}5 -
Starting up the new Java project I'm assigned to.
Just to see that this project is made of pure black magic and tears of forsaken devs.
Crashing the jvm with segfaults on a regular basis is just one part of the magic.
Now I understand why no one volunteered for this project...2 -
New side project just started, node_module weights 135 mo.
By the way, Bootstrap 4 and its thousands of depencies should suck a round of cocks3 -
Somehow, a contractor left with all our unit tests six months ago. I just inherited this project. It's 200kloc of Django spaghetti, and I have no unit tests.5
-
Just finished a project for a client who couldn't even create a .zip of the images she wanted me to use.. /.- just to say it took longer to finish than it should have
-
How do you guys keep motivation in a long term project? Cause I could be completely motivated in the first like half but then just lose interest even though I love the project itself.8
-
Fuck inherited projects!
I was invited to work on a simple migration and integration project for a bank. Thinking it was simple and just a month long project, I accepted it.
... last August 2020.
Now, almost a year later, we have freakin gone nowhere with this project. The bank has had 5 project managers leave over the last 1.5 years that this project has been active.
And every fix I make brings in numerous other problems.
It’s so fucking insane.
No one knows who to blame.
I am currently in call with the bank with about 12 other people who are all watching me fix bugs that they find -.- -
@lazyDev reminded me of the time my bid for a project was rejected because I'm a white man. Never mind the fact that I have built my career around data management, visualisation and modelling and the only other competing bid was from someone who had experience in mobile development and little else. I checked up on the company and the project just now, and they've posted the project up again. I've made a bid just like I did before, only this time I've tripled my price. Let's see if they change their minds.3
-
just started a holiday project. creating a silly game using Processing 2. finally done with day 1 drawing, and baselining.1
-
Just wanted to start a personal project and guess who think it's the best time to update right now?
THANK YOU WINDOWS 😥
Maybe tomorrow7 -
So I was on a .NET project for a couple of months, then went to a Angular 6 project, now I'm starting on a PHP project.
I'm just loving these past few months. -
you know it's a good day when you copied that funky looking code you wrote, copy pasted in current project and IT JUST WORKS!2
-
Just downloading the CM Source code right now. I'm really excited and nervous because I never tackled such a big project on my own.
Wish me Luck guys! :)1 -
If it’s a personal project, I’ll put it off for a while and do something else to switch things up - I might work on a different project for a day and then pick the first one up again.
If it’s a work project, I can’t naturally put it down, but I might just drop it for a shorter period of time, like a minute or two. Get up, take a walk, refresh my thoughts.
This may of course be a slippery slope for some, but for me it’s proven effective in juggling my projects. -
Just switched from Debian to Ubuntu, should have coded for a project today... But I passed hours playing freeciv... At least I had fun!!
-
I committed my credentials and pushed to GitHub once. Took me a week to notice. Luckily it was just a personal project and no one noticed.
-
I can't make progress on my private project.
I just started and already refactoring my code.
Yesterday I started to refactor my tests -.-'
I'm sure I will lose the interest in this project because I start a new one I can refactor to death.8 -
I'm getting caught up on my personal project because I need to generate a lot of Dynamic HTML using JS and it's just a pain. I hate adding dependencies to a project, especially personal projects with no deadlines, so tomorrow I will be writing a vanilla templating system, and hopefully that will un-funk me.3

How to get funding for your startup in India?
Just sprinkle a little bit of blockchain on your project idea. Done 😂😂 -
Just finished writing a Git Mini Handbook for beginners. Plan on releasing it on Amazon this week and then begin finalizing the Mega handbook.
I just find it better writing my knowledge into books other than sodding around a software project. -
Been invited to a bi-weekly meeting about a project that I'm not even working on yet.
I think I'll just go and cut my own brake cables then drive home. -
project-manager : what are you doing ?
me : just having some coffee .
project-manager : stop all shit go to work .
me : ok sir . got up and went for my laptop .
my mother screamed at me and screamed "what
are you doing ?"
i then realised it all a night_mare1 -
Project management 101:
1) For a new project, pretend it is similar to a project in currently in development
2) Proudly state that everything can be copied from the older project, so the schedule of the new can be tightened
3) Calculate the new schedule based on the "just copy and paste" effort.
4) Now the new project will be finished before the older project
5) Enjoy the applause from upper management for the successful project that hasn't even begun yet.
No, this does not belong in the joke category.
That's gonna be fun...1 -
Today I've landed on a legacy project which still uses mail() method in PHP. Just gonna enjoy this one.5
-
As a matter of principle, when your project proposal starts with : "Create a new site, a combination of (SomeCompany.com) and (SomeCompletelyDifferent.com)" I just don't respond to you.1
-
On a personal project, running some tests.
I had errors in specific tests, I just removed them and added a comment:
// We assume the user will use it as intended1 -
A machine learning project I've been working on but can't seem to make any progress on... It just won't learn gahhhhhhhhh
-
Best: I started a little game project with a coworker for our "8 hours a month" research/fun time.
Worst: I can't get used to be "just a soldier" on my actual team.3 -
Not just dev goals.
-Stable relationship with [Redacted]
-Finish my projects
-Get new SSD
-Finally get paid for the DLR project
-Not fucking up my exams
-Finish my blacksmithing idea/project
-Play a good game that's not Destiny2
-Learn python.
-Drivers license
-Think positively for once4 -
!rant!
I have replaced a dev in a company where the project already started and it is shit! The project is directed already to fail, no requirements documentation, no proper communications, and a stubborn dev teammate.
aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
All the documents that we have right now is I am the one who created it. Like c'mmon! this project is already going for 1 year and I recently just joined the team!4 -
Just started this (personal project) project a 2 minutes ago... I'm so turned on now , because this project in ELIXIR!😍14
-
I have been working on this React project for more than a month, I just discovered the "defaultValue" attribute for a field. Please kill me.3
-
TFW you are finally making progress on a project... and a ticket comes in. Ok, just knock that out... intern needs help. Ok, real quick, I'll help my man out... boss wants to discuss a new project. Ok... what was I working on?
-
Whoever the fuck at my university thought that a distributed systems project using Java Web services was a good idea? The server we're supposed to use (Glassfish) is so out-of-date, half the time spent on this project is just spent fixing fucking broken dependencies and otherwise getting it to play nice. Please just tell me this shit isn't used in industry outside of legacy applications.5
-
My goal for 2020: actually finish a personal project.
Last year, I built 25% of a website, 10% of a companion app for a video game, and half of a command-line utility. I would really like to finish an entire project this year, but considering that I just started a new project that promises to be huge and unwieldy, that will probably have to wait for whatever project I try next after burning out on this one.1 -
So I just finished a group project for a database class, it's an open project and we made a website that is basically like rate your professor. We spent tons of time on it and the website is finally settled. But that's not the point, I won't put the URL here, I just wanna say:
I fucking hate php. Fuck it.
Just fuck it5 -
8 months into a complex Agile project, managing multiple Scrum teams -
I still feel it would go much faster if I just do it myself.1 -
Just finished my first microservice project. I'm so happy that I was able to do that hardest thing I ever did. It's just a side project but I think it will do well on my cv as I will be finishing university next year.
Just wanted to share this with you guys as all the rants really helped me to calm down when I was wrecking my head over some weird bugs.4 -
A project called instawish...
Basically its get pictures from famous people instagram ( watches, clothes, shoes ) and allow you to project on yourself using AR (vufforia) just creating the model based on the image. Simple as hell!5 -
I just crave to start an open-source project. It's just that I don't feel like doing it alone. Anywone up for doin' something stupid? I have a few silly ideas in mind 😅
(Yeah, I need some other project than work...)
(Oh, right. Didn't feel like posting this over at the collab section. Felt to vague.)7 -
Nothing feels quite like starting an exploratory project with title "Just For Fun" on a cozy Christmas Eve.2

Just tried Vapor (server side Swift) for a web api project and expected to be troubleshooting a lot but it was super easy and worked out of the box. Even openapi/swagger generation.
Now I‘m exited to build a fullstack project with native and web clients, completely in Swift. 😁1 -
One of the projects that I have to do this semester is a React-Native, I was very eager to start coding until a friend of mine got an error never seen before, when he googled the problem, literally in StackOverflow somebody posted the same issue just about 2h ago, still with no response. This is going to be a fun ending semester project.
PS: this project is going to have a Lisp code project connected somehow4 -
Just realized I don't have a code style. In python at least I stick to what flake8 tells me, but with C++ I change my style every project I work with to adapt to their existing code base, and then I keep that style untill the next project.
Current project is an ns-3 module, and their code style is quite horrible but I'm already making it a part of me.1 -
I just purchased a domain!
einsof.xyz
Gonna use it for my project later on, just happy that this domain is available, and I think it really fits the project I have in mind4 -
So I just started my first personal project. Decided to make a text-based rogue-lite.
Feels super good to finally make something that's "mine" 😀 -
I just love when a client sends me a picture of text, then complains when the price of the project goes up. Time is money.
-
what we call when a person uses some technology in the project just to make sure his profile/cv gets updated...1

Python is a language I love to use. But after using a typed language I just so wanted that feature in Python. And guess what, there's already a project that does that - mypy! Static typing for Python. Just wow!1 -
That moment when you accidentally compiled a project the first time and it just works fine... (gif source: http://gph.is/2iDx4iD)1

I just rsync my current project with one that is a week outdated. Instead of pushing, I pulled the update. Worst, it had a --delete flag.
Have being working on it all week. Finally client asked for updates and I instead pulled the outdated online project to replace my locally updated project folder.
I'm dead😪7 -
Back to Excel for control project, sih 😢, just because my non tech boss can't work with JIRA and it confused him. Do you guys know any idiot friendly control project before I having a heart attack?2
-
Just realized my current team owns a new project that is smaller than the one that one I left a few years ago.... and yet we have more issues and work...1
-
When you finally start a project just for fun, and then you give your computer to IT to fix it. 1 whole week...

How do you like https://jappe999.github.io/NewTab ?
The content is easily edited.
Set this up yesterday though, so it's not the best.4 -
Please listen to me.
I just want a small, simple project. Was that all too much to ask for? I didn't want anything big and permanent.1 -
To find and be able to fully deliver one project with a multi-million dollar profit just for me so I can just retire already.
-
dream with unlimited time and money.... would be to start a kickstarter project that never actually launches and just keeps collecting even more money lol1
-
So the company that asked me to join them for work in a somewhat illegal way, has just sent me a small project to understand how I think inside a project in order to understand whether they should hire me or not.
I have a week to finish that.
It's only frontend, in ReactJS+Tailwind, based on a theme/framework.
I fucking despise ReactJS and specifically told them I much rather work on Angular.
I feel like
I'll just do this project at best, give it to them, wait until they give me the contract and they tell them they'd need to double my pay to have my ass.
Yeah, I just want them to waste time, just like they're wasting my time. -
React native vs flutter?
I’m a native app developer. Just want to do a hybrid app project to get some exp with hybrid as well4 -
So the current project that I am working on has a couple of phases based on a running competition. Currently the project is in it's 3rd phase as specified in the documentation, but I just got told that there are changes that need to be done so we're moving onto Phase 2 Part 2. How does a phase have a Part 2?
-
Am I missing something, or is a project manager just supposed to ask stupid questions and not aid the project in any way?2
-
Just created a new project folder. Dropped it into the filing cabinet right next to the folder i already created for this project. Son of a bitch.
-
There must be a simple, reliable, compatible, battery efficient way to poll an api every ten minutes and send user a notification, right?
AlarmManager : Ok. But who cares about battery anyways?
Google cloud messaging : Ok, you can have battery efficiency. But who lives without Google anyways?
JobScheduler : Ok, but you need Lollipop. Which Android phone doesn't get updates? Oh wait, shit.6 -
I am excited about Websocket getting more popular. I just completed a project using it. It is so good for sending market data to the front.
-
Every programmer uses a framework. It's either someone else's standardized, tested, & well documented framework, or its one you start writing just for this project.

My company got a project from a client to maintain it. I checked the database and found there's a column named "Sorry_Created_Extra".
I just saw my near future clearly at that moment.2 -
USB sounds to be a backup project just in case USA fails!!!😤😤
.....but at the same time I think that USB is a bee which comes from America🙊🙊 -
I just upgraded a large project from bootstrap 3 to bootstrap 4.
It was more annoying than I thought it was going to be. -
Just dug up a project I abandoned half a year ago. This is so fucking bloated that I'll probably need about a weekend to see if it's at least acceptable to deploy security-wise.
Just. Fucking. Great.
Also, hello, world!1 -
Just had a major breakthrough on a project for work today! The project has been going slowly the last couple months and the client actually sent a slightly concerned status request this morning, so being able to invite them to preview a fully working demo and let them know we’re starting to conduct QA testing tomorrow is quite a relief.1

Been working on a project for a pretty long time now. I really think this could be something cool, and I just integrated paypal!
Feels great!1 -
Just the other day,i was contemplating about using django or codeigniter for a large project i was going to work on,i ended up using codeigniter 😀4

Just uploaded my latest project!
A logging library made in c#.
If anybody could take a look and let me know what you think I'd appreciate it.

Just got out of a meeting where they revealed to me that I will be the only dev on this project and I'll need to update the entire thing to a more modern coding standard.
But the project is 10 years old... and is massive... Why do they hate me so much? -
I actually debugging a feature i made..
And i just realize well, this project is already 8 months old and i cant remember what other features i made. -
A PM just asked me if i can change a display text on our webapp project.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Isn't that what we have been doing the whole time ??

Trying to explain to my work that I don't want to *not* work. I just don't want to work on this *particular* project for a while 🙃1

Just started my first small laravel project (a chat app). current state: i can chat with myself -awesome! Almost forgot about this good feeling learning great new stuff :)1

The feeling of evil satisfaction when your boss asks you to build a killswitch into a client's project.
Just call me Zero Cool.4 -
Let's say you had just received a freelance project, tell me more how you give the client a valid price3

Just finished a small project and don't know what to code next. Any suggestions? (Web / server based applications)4
-
I hate deploying this project, it's just nerve wracking. I started it when I was a newbie to web stuff so I didn't know shit. Now it's just a big project with no unit tests, I test it all by hand.
It looks professional though, but the underlying code is just a mess.5 -
just came to the conclusion that my current side-project is a bunch of crap...
now desperate finding a new app idea :/4 -
Worked on a project form 8AM-12midnight straight and wanted to copy the project somewhere else.
My stupid brain just shift + delated the whole working project.
lmk if it's just me or have any of you also done stupid mistakes like this?
Just so I can calm my bird brain and at least think of another career path.4 -
For my dissertation project, anyone with a name (e.g, User Personas) has been named after a character in Silicon Valley.

1. A work environment that has a high level of trust.
2. I feel like I have to mention project aristotle of Google...
3. Psychological safety (( from project aristotle ))
4. Result oriented work environment
5. Just love tbh... a working environment that is a soft place to land -
There's nothing like that feeling on your face...
When you get a new project...and you've been writing project requirements & scope docs for 20 hours...
As you somber towards bed...what is that tickle on my cheek? Oh. Just eye blood.
That's a morning-me problem.3 -
Why is it I just had an amazing idea for this project 2 days AFTER IT WAS FINISHED?
Oh well, time for a rewrite! -
Honestly my midterm project from college. It was never a production project just supposed to go into my portfolio. Who knew that building a functional social media app in 3 months in a language you never knew is actually SO IMPRESSIVE to people that it alone gets you an internship and a job.2

When you are working with a rather large website project and customer is calling many times a day, every day, just to ask are we there yet.3

I want to work on my project (well it's just a copy of another website) so bad, but it's the exam period. Mendokusē4

Just started my new college education (going for embedded systems engineering) and we found out we don't have any holidays except for christmas.
No biggie, can live with that.
However, we just got a project which we need to pass to continue to the second year and of course it's a fucking group project.
Guess what, one of the asshats had a holiday planned for a while, so he'll be out somewhere in Africa while the rest build stuff for a week. 1 week on a 3 week project... Amazing.1 -

Just sharing a project I submitted to college. It is not done. It's a LAN messenger written in java swing.

Either the horrible devil lady on my last project or the Mormon nepotism on my first project.
To clarify, the horrible devil lady set my career back a year. The Mormons just cost me job satisfaction. The job in Utah probably set me back though. -
About JS WYSIWYG editors.
When you're working on a project that does require a such editor, which solution do you usually chose and why ?
- existing library (which one ?)
- coding your own
- no fancy editor, just markdown
- no fancy editor, just bbcode or equivalent6 -
Working in a team for first time. Spent 8 hours just setting up the project locally - happy Friday!5

Started collaborating on a friend's project.
Just pulled a crazy stupid hack just to get it to work as intended.
<input type="text" name="page" value="somepage" style="display:none">

Having a project on JS, .NET and C# and I'm really really close to just give up because of the access to itemTemplates.
Can't what I want :(3 -
Imagine working hard on a project, bought a lot about database yourself and other expansive stuff, not sleep for several nights, and every users congrats only the project manager who just ask you once per week if the project is done... just imagine how terrible is your life...3

Just completed a web project for a fintech start up. We usually complain about clients’ demands and satisfactions. But look, some designers are full of surprises! SMH.

Just moved my project for the first time from a windows server to Linux. Learned the importance of case-consistency the hard way...

Im involved in a major project for 4 months now and im a former weed smoker and sometimes I just want to stay home and smoke my code away #green #angular #weed3

When you ask the project owner for a workflow explanation and his reply is "I don't know how it should work yet, just do whatever you get first", you know it's time to ditch the bastard along with his project.

A friend of mine came to ask help for their capstone project.
Adding AI feature to a capstone project that doesn't solve the problem.
Their professor wants to add that because IT students can do it by just downloading a package.
Like, are you serious??
They teach "Hello World" and expects an output of very complex application. -
Just a student of Computer engineering.
Need help deciding the final year project.
Any suggestions?3 -
Found my old project that deals with algebra in multithreading fashion
Just pushed it to github
Have a look at https://github.com/rational-kunal/... -
Just finished a side project on which I spent ~400hours (pretty big side project...). Client still trying to pay me a ridiculous amount of money. Please someone burn those idiots.2
-
Greatest distraction when coding -> Annoying project managers really. I quit a company after working 4 days because the PM on the project just wouldn't respect boundaries. Always asking for updates every 10mins.
-
I think I’m gonna attempt to start having more coding sessions. Just clock in a few hours a day to help my sanity, and also because I want to finish my project.4
-
Spent a week writing my own orm because I didn't think codesmith would work with my project. After it's finally done, a co-worker tells me I can just add a reference to the existing orm project solution and use that. Fml

I just had a long argument with the scrum master about my roles as a developer, and apparently it looks like, that I am a tester and a project owner too. For just one payment. FML!

One of my clients requested me to add
// comments
in one small project created using ReactJS.
a very small project that just calls a server to send and receive data.
I'm not sure, what I'm gonna comment in the HTML/JSX section :/7 -
Do you just dive into a project without learning all of the language and APIs or you first learn the language, APIs before you start the project?
I opted for former approach whilst doing android and it was painful. Later, I tried later approach, Iearned more but couldn't produce anywhere near first project.2 -
For anyone that has used or is using repl.it, I'm thinking about using it for a project at uni.
The project is a Java program with a HTML, CSS, JS interface.
If I open my project as a Java project in repl.it, is there a way to just run the HTML? It'd be stupid to run the whole app just to debug the frontend...1 -
I got relegated to updating an old project. It takes just 35 lines to do what we can write as a single liner in the new one.2
-
yeah, and i encountered mr. blue screen. i'm glad that android studio project saved, automatically. just a little more patience, you will get a job and buy some fucking legendary unit!!!! #RamHurts1

Just asking for an opinion, I'm gonna do a project. Which one would you guys recommend MEAN or Ruby on Rails? I just want to do this project for fun and as a side project I know somewhat node js but RoR seems fun so what will you guys recommend??8
-
I just created a new_file.rb in a crystal project and didn't notice until the compiler complained. I probably offended the compiler.

Try creating a Java multi-dependency project without Maven and just manually adding the jars. It's super annoying as nested dependencies will arise and sometimes conflicts. :P9

That feeling and satisfaction that you're finally don't your project, just before realizing that your not done
A whole lot of debugging awaits... -
The things that make me wanna hate React Native is that the project folder becomes so BIG, makes it so hard to remove the whole project folder, including node_modules.
I really hate Dart but liking Flutter only because the project folder - along with the necessary code gets created pretty faster than React Native. On the other hand, React Native takes ages to load all the node_modules.
So, I'm asking the experts here, who have worked in both frameworks, should I leave RN and go for Flutter?
Cause, I don't wanna waste a handful of time every time just to create a RN project.
If I should stick with RN, please tell me a way so that I don't have to waste the time just to create a RN project.
Thanks3 -

Soon launching a social networking app just for devs. Post Dev memes, Collab, rant, brainstorm over ideas, reach out to anyone for chat, post your cool devspace pictures and earn rewards. Stay tuned!
Ps- I know there are many similar platforms, this is just a project I developed learning coding app development so just don't brag me about the concept. Although, a better UI/UX never hurts!
The project is fully coded by me and am open for Sr. Devs collabs for the project.16 -
"Everything is on fire" isn't just an expression uses by developers, its a feature used on every project!1

Has somebody some good ideas for a new Raspberry Pi Project?
Or something whats really useful?
(Something without buying stuff just with the rpi)9 -
I've got an idea for a site I'd like to make, nothing complicated, just a little project to open source and show what I can do. I primarily use Rails and React, but this project could be done in just React with a Firebase (or similar) backend. My question is, do I make a Rails API just to show some of my rails code, or go with what I'd recommend a client do and go with Firebase? Thoughts?2

Just found this article sharing the opinion of a dev on software project fail with points I saw mentioned here on devRant, but also on other dev-related places. What do you think about it ?

Just finished updating a Laravel project to use page-specific dynamic JS imports using webpack mixins.
Everything feels so clean and manageable. I am zen...... -
Update of previous post
I just got assigned to a project.
Project-specific training is designed to take up to 20 days.
I got materials, videos, and a person who is in this project for a long time to supervise training and introduce me to the project.
Only problem is that the project apparently uses 5 years old version of base framework. -
A guy just asked me that he has this huge project and he needs a WordPress developer and m like :|
What should i tell him....
