How I went from loving my job to wishing i dont wake up tomorrow just to avoid it.
Ive been a backend dev in the company im at for 2 years now.
First year was a blast, i loved my work so much, I used to get so many random features to do, bug fixes, campaigns, analytics, etc..
Second year i started getting familiar with the part of the code that has to do with Search in our music streaming app. Nobody wanted to work on it, so i wanted to take initiative and start doing a few tasks.
A few tasks turned into sprints, and sprints turned into months worth of sprints. And because the code was the definition of tech debt, and because it was so messed up that changing one thing can blow up everything else, working on Search was not too fun.
However, people seemed to be happy search tasks are no longer piling up and someone is handling them so that used to make me feel good about it. They also gave me so much freedom and i felt like my own manager because no one told me what to do (not even my actual manager) they just let me be and were happy i was handling the part they want nothing to do with. I was also given an intern to mentor and have her work on Search tasks with me which turned out amazing.
During the last few months, I completely rewrote search, made it 10 times more performant in such a neat way, made an inhouse dashboard to automate certain tasks so we wont need to waste developers on them (all of which were extra effort on my own time without being asked), all meanwhile still tending to the fixes of the old implementation.
I felt so accomplished, and in a way, i felt like a lead (even tho im not managing any employees, i had so much freedom and I was literally responsible for everything about Search and if i decide to play with the sprint task order i can even do that).
Then 6 or so weeks ago my manager left the company, and while i thought id be a standalone team / person (single person teams are not uncommon in the company) i was instead put under someone else. Someone who likes to micro manage the fuck out of me. I have been happy working on shit code because it was my baby, my project, no one interferes and no one tells me what to do and everyone would call me the search lead (unofficially). now if i dont report to that guy every two hours he calls to see if im working. preplans sprints i no longer have a say in, and im the only dev who knows the code so all tasks go to me. I feel i got demoted so fucking much. I felt like a lead on a project and now im back to being a normal code minion. From deciding everything about a project to blindly following a some irrelevant manager's opinion. (who btw is making Search worse) And after all the extra effort i put in, after actually caring, after actually embracing Search as my responsibility i get rewarded with losing everything i liked about my job...My Independence. From feeling like a lead to feeling demoted. I am so demotivated.
I love the company, but this is hell for me and this made me hate a job i always loved. I am thinking of talking to the CTO asking to work on other stuff because i no longer want this. If i am to be a code minion at least let it be on code i like, let me go back to dealing with PMs, fuck my new manager I dont wanna work with that guy he can take the project along with all its poopoo.16 -
i work on a music streaming app.
bug: playlist description shows there are X songs inside. But when you go inside it says there are Y songs in the list. the list actually containing Y songs.
hack: when a user goes in, cache Y and display it outside in the description next time.
result: user sees X songs in playlist description, goes in playlist and sees Y songs. goes back to check why it said X before but now it doesnt say X anymore coz we cached Y and display that in the description from now on so the user assumes they are imagining things17 -
To my ex manager
you left to berlin, and left me to rot
my new lead sucks, i kid you not
it was ok if I slacked off, You used to be chill
But my new lead is uptight, he's on my list to kill
I wanna run errands in work hours, is that so bad?
was doing so for years, now i lost what i had
I cant drive in peace, coz i know he'd call
so i had to cancel plans to go to the mall
its like 10 to 6 is now constant work
I hate my new lead, he is such a jerk17 -
Fuck the imperial system. For centuries everyone used meters and kilograms to measure shit so why the FUCK did the U.S decide to use pounds and inches. Like i see most articles and videos comfortably using the metric system, EVERYTHING uses the metric system. then i stumble on an idiot who makes me go to a converter so I can understand his pound-inch-based lingo. FUCK YOU18

I played skyrim, and i thought yes.. i want to make that...
and now i am a very successful CTO and cofounder of a video game startup thats blooming and already made 7 figure profits

Someone paid me almost 200 usd to solve a visual basic assignment made of 13 small questions like palindrome checking, finding max,...
i feel i stole the girls money but i also feel i wish i can do this full time8 -
We are forced to work from home until further notice . i am hating every second of it. Being home and not gaming or binging on anime / netflix feels like a punishment. im more productive in the office.15

I created website for a client, with sleek material design.
He told me that the website was too flat and needed more shadows and gradients to make it more modern and 3D.8 -

A company I applied to asked me to make a small CakePHP project to see if i am worthy. I was fairly good with cake so i procrastinated, planning to do it the weekend before the interview.
on that weekend my girlfriend needed help with something so i neglected the company project to help her and later made a half assed one the night before my second interview.
My half assed project couldnt compete with the others so i got ghosted by that company, ended up working in a company across the street from it with twice the salary
to this day i am so glad i didnt get accepted there or id be working for half my current pay.
Procrastination can save careers4 -
A girl i liked sucked at programming, used to fail our first programming course. I had a crush on her so i offered to tutor her for free and did a couple of her assignments when she was too overloaded with assignments. - Plan worked, she saw how nice and reliable i am so she did and helped me with some papers and eventually shes my girlfriend now.7

recruiter of a company i was dying.to work in calls while im at work in a job i hated.
recruiter: hello, i saw the several applications you sent using our careers portal.
me: (rushes to bathroom ready to talk about scheduling the first interview) yes that is correct thank you fornbcontacting me !
recruiter: please stop applying several times, you have been rejected and need to wait a minimum of 3.5 years for us to re evaluate your resume in the future.4 -
i had a nightmare the other day that i was at work explaining to a friend that 1/3 is the same as 3/9 and i was shocked why they ddnt approve. then they pull out a calculator and i see that while the first fraction yields 0.33 the second yielded 0.057. so i felt so nervous and panicked then i woke up.4

I have an unpopular opinion. I think laptop stickers are ugly in general. They make a cacophony of brand names and colors on an otherwise sleek device! Why!21

I found a vulnerability in a food delivery app api that allows me to add credit to my account. I ate my first free meal today but i feel bad about it. What should i do 😞.
1- continue hacking free credit and eating free food.
2- stop and forget i found this bug
3- report the bug in exchange for money/credit
4- report the bug for free24 -
I started writing a rant about my boss a while ago.
Never sent it.
Woke up to signal messages from her to our core team signal group that she’s been let go.
Starting to think maybe there is a god, because she was really pissing me off and micromanaging and making me want to quit my awesome job.
Also the new boss doesn’t want to bother making a job description for me but instead wants me to let him know what path I want to take, which certifications , etc.
Also got a maxed out m3 MacBook Pro today. The sleek black edition. My team is going to get our Dowding team logo etched into it.
Today was better than Christmas. Almost best day of my life.8 -
Me: reports vulnerability that can be used to steal thousands of dollars from a company.
Stingy company: gives me 66 USD voucher as a reward. :)11 -
Stumbled upon VS Code recently, an open source freeware from Microsoft. And as a VIM fan, I must say that it blew me away with its sleek nature.
Been a user of Sublime and Atom in the past as well, but VS code surely stands out.9 -
My company relocated us to the UAE. They said all hotel expenses till we get our apartments will be on them. In addition, they will be giving us a 4k relocation bonus to furnish our apartments.
After the first batch was relocated they were like, ok so we will be deducting all expenses / hotel fees from your relocation bonus. You will also not get the salaries until we get residencies and are able to open bank accounts.18 -
Ever since i became programming-literate i cant just enjoy a game without thinking how everything how everything is working 🤦🏻12

I was so excited about getting a fitbit charge 3 for my girlfriend. coz she wanted a fitbit for a long time.
she as always was trying to find out what i got so she usually starts a guessing game.
in the middle of the game she says look i dont need to know anymore ill love it whatever it was. i just hope its not a fitbit.
so me being someone who is completely ok with exercising the stores exchange policy i tell her it is a fitbit. she swears to me shes wanted one forever but she ddnt want me to pay that much money so i dont need to exchange it with anything.
next day on the phone, she tells me how much she appreciates it and just was afraid id get one coz she ddnt used to like her dads fitbit. but the other models are really cool.
what was ur dads fitbit? i asked
oh just the ugly charge 3 one. she replied9 -
Guys, does anyone promise himself to work on a personal project on the weekend which he really is excited about working on. Then he ends up having done nothing but play a game or go out?
Like i have this idea that i really wanna make but i just cant get myself to sit down and actually do it. :/9 -
Dear wordpress developers,
You have my sincerest apologies. I used to think developing with wordpress is what people do when they are feeling lazy and dont want to work with code and frameworks. But no... wordpress, shopify and all those shitty ready CMSs are by far the worst methods of developing websites or web applications. I have spent countless hours in my new job in the past two months simply trying to resolve issues caused by wordpress websites suddenly deciding to stop working after one of the billion plugins required to do the simplest of tasks was updated. The money i need to spend on premium plugins alone makes developing the website no longer profitable in the first place. And god forbid the client asks for a very simple frontend edit that the theme doesnt offer in the theme options menu. Even tho doing the feature from scratch would take next to no time at all if you do it yourself... you end up trying out a hundred plugins just to achieve something in a ways that feels very forced. Nothing will ever top cakephp for me2 -
Got an interview in 3 hours for a senior backend php engineer position. If it doesn't work out im gonna get stuck in a job as a wordpress dev which i hate. pray for me.14

My company cut 30% of our salaries in March 2020 until October 2020 and promised to give them back later
we just got the call saying we are never gonna get them but hey you are getting shares that are worth double the value ... but with a 2 year vesting period...
i feel i lost so much well earned money....11 -
Just got Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer!
That splash screen is sleek!

Dear devranters,
Recently, i stopped liking the job that I used to love. not because i got bored of the work, but because of the company politics and drama.
All in all i feel very disrespected and treated as just a pawn to do whatever management feels like. I am tired of being promised things and management going back on them.
I have decided to try to make my own software company. as small as it would be. just anything where I am not anyone's slave or "employee". I want to be the boss for once... and not wait for someone to give me my salary and telling me to be thankful for it.
my main concern is gathering clients. If you can suggest a few ways in the comments id be grateful19 -
my previous boss once told me [ ] array initializing syntax will be depricated in php 7 (few years ago) so i should only use array() instead.
couple months back after i got used to always using the latter i found out the first was never depricated but he just prefered how array() looks6 -

Honestly, i hate math or actually i hate that i suck at it. I graduated CS and if u put a math problem any bit more advanced than basic linear equations i will turn red. I wish i was good at it. I think if i was, id be able to do much more cool shit because combining math and the ability to control a computer basically makes you a demi god.
If i had some free time i’d love to go over the basics on khan academy or something. But free time doesnt come by a lot coz we’re too busy trying to make money and id rather just rest and chill when it does.
Tho if a cute girl offered to tutor me in that free time i’d definitely say yes 🧐15 -
I recently found a vulnerability in a food delivery app where i can add credit to my account. as some of u suggested I decided to report it. Here is their response of me asking (before explaining the bug) if i will be legally prosecuted and if ill be rewarded. this was their response. I feel they were mean. Thoughts ?11

At one of my former jobs, we devs had to do all sorts of non-dev work, such as writing quotes and even contracts!
The CEO of that company had this naughty habit to contact devs directly without delegating through the CIO. Sure, if it's really urgent like when some system is down because of a bug, go ahead and disturb a dev. But interrupting coders to write some freaking quote? Come on!...
Once, that CEO asked me to stop everything I was doing to write a quote to a customer ASAP, as this was really urgent.
I spent several hours writing that quote. It had to be done right as any specifications in our quotes were used in our agreeements and were referred to in the case of any dispute. So not only were we devs and salesmen in the same time; we also needed to be lawyers.
When I was done and delivered the quote to the CEO, he told me he had no intention to take on that customer in the first place. Instead, he wrote a polite we-are-not-interested e-mail to the customer and cc:d it to me just so that I could read for myself how very sleek a businessman he was.
Me: why did I have to write that quote when you knew all along that you were not going to use it anyway?
Him: It's for your own personal development.
Another naughty habit of that same CEO is that he made "jokes" and remarks that I found inappropriate, such as "You walk like a drunken sailor".
Later, he decided to discontinue our team/product because "it isn't proftable". Well, what do you expect when devs are forced to waste half day completing pointless tasks?!
It was for the better anyway, and I was actually relieved when I left the company. I'm still thinking though, that the real reason he sacked me is that I am too honest and not the docile kind of employee that would be ideal for him. I did question some of my tasks, and worst of all: I didn't laugh at his stupid jokes.1 -
Some recruiter just reached out on LinkedIn to talk about a job opportunity with me.
I suggested he give me an idea of the pay range before i proceed and talk to anyone in the company so we dont waste eachothers time.
He said they can realistically pay X/month.
I explained that X is less than half my current salary (Y) so i wont proceed with this.
He replied by saying "oh nice, thats a great salary for your experience"
WTF is that supposed mean? did the bitch say im underqualified to get paid my current salary?10 -
I have a disgusting corporate wanna be manager in my company and i fucking want him to die.
He thinks he owns the company... by just the way he walks.. u could tell he believes everyone around him to be his underling.
hes not actually good in anything but he is amazing at posting about how we need more descipline in the company every now and then. most employees here are workaholics who love their jobs too much and stay more than needed and yet he likes to remind them they need to be *desciplined* enough to be here at 10 sharp. (most are 15 to 30 mins late but everyone stays hours extra voluntarily...).
i wish he'd stop thinking he is qualified to micro manage nor is he supposed to. some of the people (not even including myself) that he is calling undesciplined are literally the reason he still has a job because of the weekends and all nighters they voluntarily put in.
Rot in hell u micro managing corporate wanna be asshole...
Rot in hell2 -
Hello everybody. First time ranter, so please be nice.
Starting off with a classic: text editors.
I'm mainly a .net developer, so I mostly use Visual Studio (with vim key bindings), and (g)vim for everything else. However, visual studio code is slowly winning me over. It's sleek, it's pretty, and does a lot of cool stuff. It doesn't do all that vim does though (or does it in ways I don't yet know), and is slightly less customizable. On the other hand, vim sometimes feels like too much overhead for what I use it for.
What do you guys think? What do you use, and what personal gripes do you have?10 -

I sure as hell am not a designer, but I do love design. Amidst all this backend, professional work, I found some time to do what I always wanted to try. Make a sleek web page.

I see people earning $10k to add small features that take no more than a week worth of work and here I am making full fledged custom ecommerce sites for $1k.
Money is apparently based on who the client is not what ur doing for them..
So how do i get those clients?6 -
I joined (still under probation period) in a startup founded by an 18 year old.
I work after my full time job for them and thought itd be fun but the kid made a slack channel and asks for progress updates everyday and feels a bit in a haste to get the product up and running. He seems to think I will be working every weekday from the second i come back home till i sleep. I have a party today that im going to and im sure he will ask for progress updates and when I tell him im out and wont work today he’ll probably say something like “the faster we do the project the better”.
Im not sure if i should leave now while its easy or i should stay for the money ($900 a month). Like i really dont feel like tolerating a demanding kid who cant wait for his app plus id much rather be working on other things just for fun like making rust crates. but at the same time the extra money is nice.
Thoughts?15 -
Client: i want payment integration without using any of those 3rd party gateways like 2checkout.
Me: uhmmm, any reason you cant use those gateways?
Client: its more professional
...
they also take percentages on every transaction !
Me: ... *closes chat*4 -
I manage one of the shittiest parts of the codebase in the company. I spent the last couple of months rewriting and refactoring and optimizing without being asked so i can make my life easier and earn some good employee points.
Last Tuesday I got a call from the CTO, he was like "i love what you did but i think changing the language used for that would be cool so i rewrote some of it in Node, lets finish it up together and use the version of it in node from now on."2 -
Cant decide whether to talk about how TeamViewer banned me because they think me helping my girlfriend all the time was commercial use,

I guess this happens to everyone but damn, hate it when dreaming about code, and not just any code, but the code your enthusiastic about, somehow everything seems to work, so that when you wake up and sit in front of the computer you just go blank... what was that code again, it was so sleek, so simple, yet so robust...
12 hours later dream about it again to wake up realizing you wont ever be able to wake up remembering the code in the detail...1 -
Major state insurance provider, all past and current members data stored unencrypted (including SSN, date of birth, home address, etc.). All developers and contract developers had read access to it. Reported it, nothing was done. Reported it again in my exit interview. Was basically told they had intrusion detection systems in place so it was not an issue.4

Remember how much free time we used to have in school? Like I used to play a musical instrument, binge on series, play a ton of games, id pickup random hobbies just because I can.
Being an adult is so fucking depressing I wanna be a kid again.2 -

online coding exams.
Ask me how to do a rest api, ask me how to do a certain visual in the website, ask me how to setup a docker service running grafana, please just ask me something about the actual job.
Dont ask me to create some mind game that was ambiguously phrased in a timed hackerrank question that expects me to write runnable solutions that pass all test cases.
I have way too much work to play around with hackerrank for weeks so i prepare for your useless test3 -
When our company (past employer) got acquired by another company and everyone got to have a meeting where you got a black or blue envelope. One indicated you were being let go, the other indicated you were being offered an "opportunity" if you would relocate to NJ. What was an awesome company -- they destroyed the soul of it in one day.
Oh well their CEO got let go after a US Congressional investigation earlier this year. Karma, bitch! -
on the long term you are just a minion getting paid enough to live comfortably but no where near enough to live as lavishly as your employer. In most cases, It wont pay enough to allow you to think of retiring early
Often you will feel you have no time to pursue hobbies because keeping up with technology is more important to stay employable.
the fact you can work anytime and anywhere will make many people expect you to work all the time everywhere.2 -
@trogus are you responsible for designing all these cool avatars?!? they are so simple and sleek and AWESOME how did you do it what do you use?4

Just quit being in a team for an app i was working on on the side. I liked the app but i decided working 10 to 6 is enough work for a day, i deserve guilt free chilling in my free time.1

My first freelance project - happened to be with the worst client. They didnt wanna pay more than $500 and also had no clue what they want, so each time i present something they request additional features or changing the ones implemented. In the end i kept the half downpayment for my time and bailed without deploying or anything. I introduced them to another freelancer to take the project and never went near them again.
To clarify, it was not my first project/ just my first time dealing with clients for projects instead of doing them at work. Ever since then i have a strict no dealing with clients directly policy.2 -
I used to like web development. But i got sick and tired of every client expecting a website in a $200 price range.6

This is a guide for technology noobies who wants to buy a laptop but have no idea what the SPECS are meaning.
1. Brand
If you like Apple, and love their !sleek design, go to the nearest Apple store and tell them "I want to buy one. Recommendations?"
If you don't like Apple, well, buy anything that fits you. Read more below.
2. Size
There are 11~15 inches, weight is 850g ~ 2+kg. Very many options. Buy whatever you like.
//Fun part coming
3. CPU
This is the power of the brain.
For example,
Pentium is Elementary Schoolers
i3 is Middle Schoolers
i5 is High Schoolers
i7 is University People
Dual-core is 2 people
Quad-core is 4 people
Quiz! What is i5 Dual-core?
A) 2 High Schoolers.
Easy peasy, right?
Now if you have a smartphone and ONLY use Messaging, Phone, and Whatsapp (lol), you can buy Pentium laptops.
If not, I recommend at least i3
Also, there are numbers behind those CPU, like i3-6100
6 means 6th generaton.
If the numbers are bigger, it is the most recent generation.
Think of 6xxx as Stone age people
7xxx as Bronze age people
8xxx as Iron age people
and so one.
4. RAM
This is the size of the desk.
There are 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and so one.
Think of 4GB as small desk to only put one book on it.
8GB as a desk to put a laptop with a keyboard and a mouse.
16GB as a normal sized desk to put some books, laptop, and food.
32GB as a boss sized desk.
And so one.
When you do multitasking, and the desk is too small...
You don't feel comfortable right?
It is good when there are spacious space.
Same with RAM.
But when the desk becomes larger, it gets expensive, so buy the one with the affordable price.
If you watch some YouTube videos in Chrome and do some document words with Office, buy at least 8GB. 16GB is recommended.
5. HDD/SSD
You take out the stuffs such as books and laptop from the basket (HDD/SSD), and put in your desk (RAM).
There are two kinds of baskets.
The super big ones, but because it is so big, it is bulky and hard to get stuffs out of the basket. But it is cheap. (HDD)
There are a bit smaller ones but expensive compared to the HDD, it is called SSD. This basket is right next to you, and it is super easy to get stuffs out of this basket. The opening time is faster as well.
SSDs were expensive, but as times go, it gets bigger as well, and cheaper. So most laptops are SSD these days.
There are 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1024GB(=1TB), and so one. You can buy what you want. Recommend 256GB for normal use.
Game guy? At least 512GB.
6. Graphics
It is the eyesight.
Most computers doesn't have dedicated graphics card, it comes with the CPU. Intel CPUs has CPU + graphics, but the graphics powered by Intel isn't that good.
But NVIDIA graphics cards are great. Recommended for gamers. But it is a bit more expensive.
So TL;DR
Buying a laptop is
- Pick the person and the person's clothes (brand and design)
- Pick the space for the person to stay (RAM, SSD/HDD)
- Pick how smart they are (CPU)
- Pick how many (Core)
- Pick the generation (6xxx, 7xxx ....)
- Pick their eyesight (graphics)
And that's pretty much it.
Super easy to buy a laptop right?

Im learning kotlin but heres what i dont get..
is it a completely new language that uses jvm concept like java or is it a template over java with extra stuff like C++ and C.
when i import a library in kotlin that exists in the java sdk does it use that or all the libraries are made for kotlin.
is kotlin java++ basically or is it something completely different
sorry if its a dumb question still nee at this7 -

dont you just hate it when u want to hire devs but they ask for too much money so you decide to hire interns with experience ?
i became what i always despised6 -
i have been applying for jobs recently, and after getting some HR interviews that evolved to tech interviews, i just cancelled them all...
Every company seems to have hacker rank, and online coding sessions as tech interview stages which really stress me out. Its like everyone thinks they are google and its ok to make people go theough this pressure to join them.
I dont mind being given 10 days to implement a complex project, after which im either in or not. But 20 mins to solve something online while either the interviewer is watching me or the automated test is waiting to filter my application out... i get anxiety just thinking about that..
so im gonna stick with my current job for now, and focus on building my own business slowly on the side. I really felt anxious because of those tech interviews these past weeks and i feel so much better after cancelling all of them.
if a decent company comes along with the project approach, id love to apply, but otherwise ill just stick to where I am for now. dont know if im being immature or irresponsible career wise or if this decision will blow up in my face
stay tune to find out !15 -
how can you stand the fact the guy who owns your company was able to bleed chalets and luxuries out of the product you worked on for him while you struggle to afford buying a house
i cant get over this fact7 -
none, no matter how easy it is im gonna tense up and not think straight. Im against the standard interviewing process to begin with3

We want one system for all our branches with booking and (inserts 73 huge features crucial to business operations)

You know, we just want a custom made website with (insert 23 major features)

You know, we want a wordpress site, we can expand late

full of contradiction.
If u try freelancing nobody would pay you shit coz theres always someone who'd do it for 100$.
If you do get a good budget freelance project, any Dev you'd consider outsourcing to to split the work with will ask for more than the project is worth.
There's a lot of competition but it's basically made up of
- people from fancy universities who dont know shit coz they think their degree is worth something on its own and expect high salaries off the bat.
- people who figured out the first group are idiots and tried to self learn, so they joined bootcamps that spoon fed them some Laravel and React and now think they are high tier engineers but may not even know their way around a bash terminal
- people who actually know their shit, went through hell to get the skills they have now, could probably spin up a startup on their own
group 3 all left the country tho4 -
1. God Complex
2. You can get things done with little effort. ( script or program that does personal computer chores for me, etc..)
3. Lots of $$$ opportunities if you are able to get some clients. -
Ever since i joined my company, things are getting worse.
from small details like them abandoning team lunches to big ones like the fact no one or at least i didnt get any bonus this year.
I know for a fact bonuses were a thing before i joined and i was really looking forward to it...
And now by the end of the month we will recieve word about whether we are getting acquired or not...
After reading this rant one would think the company is getting bankrupt, and this worries me because this job was best i could ever ask for, i dont wanna abandon ship :/1 -
I left my previous job without notice period (didnt need to coz i hadnt signed any contracts with them yet and have not been there for more that 3 months) so they got pissed and decided to not pay me my monthly salary.
Today (4 months later) they have the nerve to contact me to check if I want to go back to them. :)3 -
some recruiter called (and woke my wife and me up) at 9 AM to tell me about a job opportunity that pays less than my current job and offers less remote work1
-
I am so pissed. Someone i know asked me if we were hiring marketting people so I asked the COO and he said we are and asked me to refer them. I asked my friend for her CV and referred her.
I ask the COO a week later whether he contacted her and he says that they will hire a girl they had as an intern a few months ago instead.
I give no fuck to whether my friend ended up getting hired. But i at least expect to get her an interview. When u ask ur friend to refer you to their company, u expect the fact he works there will help u get a chance for an interview or even a god damn phone call at the very least. But now the COO made me look very useless infront of her, it wasnt any different than if she had applied online rather than me referring her personally.
i honestly feel disrespected having been indirectly told my position in this company doesnt even let me help people i know to get a small interview. nevermind the outcome of the interview, but me being in this company should give me the ability to get someone an interview AT LEAST. just for the sake i referred her personally as a current employee at the company... they shouldve interviewed her and forgot about her. just make it look like u cared about the fact that a current good employee referred someone and that my referral actually did something.
I feel very useless infront of my friend now and i hate that now its obvious to her my company doesnt give a shit about my referrals...6 -

our new cto is advocating to start migrating our existing and any upcoming new features from php to kotlin.
I tried looking into kotlin but it just doesnt feel nice to me. call me an idiot for actually enjoying php or java but i really dont feel like using something other than them.
i don't want to write Kotlin or Go or anything other than php or java which I already feel extremely comfortable with.
Maybe id love writing Rust even tho im new to it but anyway...i got too used to my comfort zone... and very few *new* things tend to interest me anymore.
whats wrong with me9 -

How do gophers (Go devs) feel about the new Go logo ?
I can get used to it but it feels more like a logo of a company that might rival Uber.
The gopher gave it an easy to use and understand feel, this new one gives a fast and sleek look. It wants to showcase "Fast" more than anything else.10 -

Betrayals and Affairs ..
After trying development with vanilla js, then with the help of jQuery, then AngularJS, then Angular, then Vuejs, then React,
I spent the last 3-4 years of my life loving React and devoting all my frontend projects to React. React was so simple and straightforward and I ... I committed to it
but, I recently checked out Svelte, and maybe i shouldn't have let curiosity take the better of me but i did and, im heartbroken to say, I can no longer love react the same way. as nice as react was, like in any relationship, we had some ups and downs, i got bothered by some little details that i learned to live with, but Svelte .. Svelte solved these little twirks and it just felt even simpler...
I created a new Vite project today, and it asked me what framework to initialize, and i kept hopping between React and Svelte. for 10 minutes i was thinking of all the history i shared with React, of how scary it is to commit to something new, but i clicked on Svelte.
I know i may have betrayed a commitment to React, but sometimes things pile up and i .. I had to listen to my heart
Forgive me and thank you for reading my confession2 -
How do you make up new cool features for your platform?
well you don't because UX and PM think it best to look at competitors and implement whatever shit they come up with.
once, someone came up with a cool feature and some basic prototype for it and they ignored it. the competitor thought of it years later and did it. when they did it, suddenly its a priority at our company to do it as well.
sure, why be the first to do the feature. im sure being unique and creative is overrated not like our profit comes from user subscriptions.
Some recent PM decisions similar to the one above are driving me crazy, its not like u dont know what to do we literally have a ton of ideas so stop ignoring them and prioritizing being a knock off app of someone else. FUCK YOU. -
I feel i need to be specialized in something coz everyone can code now... like u have machine learning engineers and devops/cybersecurity but im not really into either. What other sub fields are there?4

TLDR, i am not performing as I used to in my job before i made my side hussle and idk if i should do anything about it.
every since covid started and companies started laying off people, I started realizing im in danger when no company was able to match my current salary, and the ones that do would, make me do a hunger games hackerrank competition with thousands of other people which I don't really wanna take part of..
My company even laid off a lot of people due to budget cuts a while back and i didn't feel secure at all, and knowing that i might end up with less salary should i get fired and settle for the next company that accepts me, kinda made me lose any trust i had for the whole being an employee thing... I have financial goals i want to meet and depending on this one company to not fire me is scary...
I registered a tech company and hoped I could take on some high budget projects, got nothing the first year but slowly i started getting some projects and now im hiring contractors to help with projects and its going great and im really happy and excited about it.
But i often need to manage said contractors, have calls with clients and even do some coding myself. Some of that i end up having to do in secret in my company time... we work in a big co-working space so i get to sneak into a meeting booth and do all that.
my manager lives in another country and basically im in a situation where i can get away with it without anyone noticing.
However, I used to be one of the top contributors in the company. I used to finish a butt load of tasks every day and i ended up being promoted to manager, but i still get some coding tasks. But generally, if it weren't for my side hussle i would still be a top contributor and shine like i used to, but now i mostly do what is expected on me, and im afraid someone would ask me at some point why im not as productive as I used to be.
nobody asked me anything but i just feel kinda guilty and miss having the one job to focus on and taking credit for a lot of things and helping everyone, but at the same time i dont trust that the company cares about me enough to give me any guarantees or stocks or bonuses so i feel i need to keep growing my side hussle to have a safety net..
thank you for reading my rant1 -
find that comfortable spot between
not having a manager and being free to do stuff as u see fit.
and having a dev manager who can take the blame when things go south1 -
I fucking hate my job! This site sucks ass and I have no motivation to work on it! Would love to get a new job with a fresh sleek site, but unfortunately my autism kicks in bad during technical interviews. Oh fuck me!5
-
so for the past yr i have been unofficially a lead on a project, i wasnt officially a lead but i was the one in control of everything in it and got to do decisions.
the project itself was horrible, and i was the only one who delved into it and understood it thats why everyone relied on me i guess.
recently PMs took charge of it after i told them i want to do something else. now they are bossing the hell out of me to finish their new stuff in that project. Now i hate every second of my job.
i regret telling them i am unhappy with the project because at least i was the only one responsible for it. maybe long term that would have been a good reason to be promoted. but now they took charge so im afraid i wont get promoted anytime soon.
fuck my life if that case i might as well start anew in another company2 -
Best documentation, cakephp/laravel
Worst is by far Java docs...
for fucks sake include some useful examples i dont wanna see a table with parameters, My IDE can provide more helpful info than that4 -
Sad how the easy to make softwares are already flooding the market and making millions so now we actually need to work a lot and innovate on something if we wanna a few bucks.
Also sad how in the 80s you could rob banks with just sql injection and now its almost impossible unless you’ve been devoting you being to cybersecurity for years.
Basically I feel it would have been cooler to be a computer scientist 30 years ago :/1 -
Best boss ever. He gave me light working hours, i could ask for a day off whenever i wanted or leave early if i needed to. Never felt like a slave working for him and always felt respected and valued. Taught me basically most of what i know today and introduced me to some awesome games. Never bored me with formal speech. Come to think of it hes more of a friend. If the company was doing a bit better financially i would never had left. Obviously i dont expect to ever have a boss as good as him in the years to come.

why cant people just let other technologies be. why do we have to keep deprecating stuff. why cant we just chill...4 -
I remember studying up on web dev by myself, got advanced into php and all frontend stuff js, jquery, css, html. Coz all jobs in the country wanted those exact stuff. I got a job, 1.5 years later tried to look for other jobs, everyone wanted react, angular, vue, node... fucking market outdates u as u are working. Dont u hate that6

Once got into a corporate company, worst 3 weeks of my life. It was so depressing and the code was ugly and the people were like robots all doing overtime and coming on weekends. To top all that they were offering me 900 USD a month which is 1,100 USD less than what the same position i was in paid for in the competitor company.5
-
because i am self taught, everything i know is what most of the community knows. rendering me completely not possessing any rare needed expensive skillset2

Basically,
- No such thing as specialty, you are either a full stack dev who develops all aspects of a project and deploys it or your a jobless dev. Its asking too much of companies to pay more than one dev for one project regardless of scale. Paying minimum wage for a single dev is more than enough!
- You develop for a company, if by any chance you find someone willing to hire freelancers, your insane if you ask for more than 500 USD on a full fledged e commerce system coz a couple of wordpress companies do it for less !
Basically, dont be a dev in Lebanon.1 -
migrated everything to elastic search, shitty learning curve and apparently shittier performance. now i dream of going back18
-
Deploying web apps is a bitch and a half. I need to learn how to dockerize my shit - spent all day trying to deploy a laravel app on a digital ocean instance and it didn’t even work. Wish my work ended after pushing to github.4
-
I was never promoted - mostly because I never stayed more than 8 months in the same company. I changed jobs so frequently that at some point an HR in a company I applied for asked me about it and thought it was not a good sign.5
-
In some cases only emojis are not encoded properly - dont know how to replicate - dont know why its happening (made sure im setting to utf8)3

I hate websites like upwork and freelancer, its impossible to outbid the other applicants while maintaining a price that makes the work worth the trouble. Yet without them its impossible to find clients who are willing to pay $1k for anything no matter how big of a project it is, they keep looking for $200 solutions. Hows a developer supposed to raise some cash for a house and shit like that.1
-
My friend makes fun of me for liking Java, php and the fact i like coding OpenGL instead of using game engines.
Where would holy devrant stand ?4 -
i might not have ssh access to live instances but i can redirect live traffic to test instances and debug my shit there!

If you apply to a company for a web dev job and their website is a one pager that absolutely sucks and the content written gives the impression they dont know what they are doing should u aim high or low in the expected salary question 🧐4

Im 22, serious question...is there a way i could make enough money to retire by 30 and live off of it until im 90? Like there has to be something if i invest in would make me not need to work anymore.18

was developing a custom website for a friend, coz i primised him id do so.
but when i actually developed it i felt lazy midway so i made one table store json strings and used it for every type of data he has on his website.
everything works fine and fast, its nothing he would notice but...
am I going to hell?9 -
When someone cooks bacon in the break room early in the morning and doesn't bring enough for everyone. #hungrydeveloper1

Never did it in my 3 years of coding. Worth noting, its hard to find clients in the middle east who would pay enough money for me to think they deserve an all nighter. They all think websites cost $200 to $500. Thank you wordpress for that :p9
-
best: i became knowledgeable enough to be one of the biggest contributors in my company.
worst: salary cuts demotivated me to the point i barely commit thrice a day3 -
I would love to build apartment buildings and sell them.
but ofcourse id need a lot of money to start such a thing. hey what if i work as a dev for a while so i could afford that.
years and years later... var_dump($bug) -
spent all day finishing up a feature that i did not want to do at all and think its not the time for it...
after 5 hours of coding & debugging i finally made the PR, took the rest of the day off, felt happy i got rid of that task along with the nagging of the PM. life was good.
At 8 PM, some test i never heard of failed, my branch was the issue and it got reverted and now ill have to work on it again on Monday to fix it. fuck my life. -
I want to start contributing to open source projects but cant find something easy enough for me to start with yet interesting enough for me to want to work on.

Well, after I convince my most beloved client which, minimal design is meant to stay well, clean and sleek. There can't be too much elements to be in it. So user can have a very comfortable experience browsing your website...

*facepalm* I surrender... yet another doomed to fail site coming soon... -
i get on calls, tell devs what to do and slack off for the rest of the day just to earn my salary at the end of the month2

remember before wordpress and the likes came out when you could charge thousands of dollars for a website ?4

The company I work in recently made a subdomain where you need to figure out how to hack the page using a vulnerability they subtly put there. If u are successful u get an interview. I looked it over for fun and was able to do it. But since i already work there i was thinking of telling a friend id love to join us but was rejected a month ago when they interviewed him about how i did it so he can apply maybe they give him another chance. do you think I should do that?
Note that i referred him last month and hes a fresh grad with not much experience3 -
The biggest dilemma for me has always been whether to switch my Android device to a sleek beautiful customisable AOSP based ROM or keep the stock ROM with all the amazing drivers and features, but with crappy bloatware.
Been sticking with CM/Lineage for years, amazing experience with Xposed & Viper4Android, but at expense of things like 4K and slow motion video and other stuff. -
What all are the infrastructure related issues you face in your organization day to day?

these all our mine :( , add yours :D3 -
I start a project that follows the best architecture, best practices, etc..
i suddenly stop working on it until 3 days pre-deadline. at which point I end up building the shittiest, hackiest, thing that works enough to give to the client on time -

When you finish a website for a client but dont put it online for them because they can’t find their credentials for their hosting and domain they used for the old website, they stay silent for 6 months then call to tell you that they want their money back and that you didnt finish your job. What is an appropriate reply. Like really how. I cant even express how pissed I am.5

never code, never test anything, never even talk to clients. I just wanna open a software company, have Devs, designers, business people who do all the work so that i can get a lot of money5

my employer moved our company to the UAE. we were in a dying and collapsing country. Now we are in a stable and great place to be. We are even paid about double the average salary here.
But...
He now seems to believe we all owe him. so every time a long weekend / holiday comes up he tells us you have a week to deliver X or ur career will be in danger.
I have been living the past 2 months with those continuous threats. In utter anxiety over possibly losing a job i love because of him.
Before the weekend started he tagged us and said you have 48 hours to fix X. and here i am on a weekend working 10 hours a day as a result.
But i have been pulling 2 day shifts in one day. spending nights, weekends and holidays working on the project he wants fixed. and he still seems very angry at me and my team all the time. very unappreciative. and just very hurtful.
im just scared shitless because i have a family i support and have Just moved to a new country and paid thousands of dollars to rent and furnish my new place. If i get fired now i would be ruined...3 -
Who of you actually like the product you work on or the company you work for? today I knew I do when a company I had applied for 7 months ago called me (fashionably late i guess) and i politely said Im happy in my current job and am not interested anymore.5
-
Had a freelance client half a year ago, they called to do some edits and adding features yesterday. But i dont work im web development any more and no longer feel like doing it. What should I do. Can i just bail or do i give the their money back or whats the best course of action here?5

Anyone got too used to ChatGPT until now google feels like a caveman tool?
if you tell chatgpt to write code that uses library X that does something it will provide the snippet ready to be copied
whereas googling it means you have to scroll through results, pray someone asked it on stack overflow before you, otherwise skim through medium articles until you find a code block or something
and yeah ChatGPT doesnt always write working code coz of the knowledge cut-off, i switch to bard sometimes or default to google11 -
FOMO on technology is very frustrating.
i have a few freelance and hobby projects i maintain. mostly small laravel websites, go apis, etc ..
i used to get a 24$/ month droplet from digital ocean that has 4vCPUs and 8GB RAM
it was nore than enough for everything i did.
but from time to time i get a few potential clients that want huge infrastructure work on kubernetes with monitoring stacks etc...
and i dont feel capable because i am not using this on the daily, i haven't managed a full platform with monitoring and everything on k8s.
sure u can practice on minikube but u wont get to be exposed to the tiny details that come when deploying actual websites and trying to setup workflows and all that. from managing secrets to grafana and loki and Prometheus and all those.
so i ended up getting a k8s cluster on DO, and im paying 100$ a month for it and moving everything to it.
but what i hate is im paying out of pocket, and everything just requires so much resources!!!!3 -
chat gpt is too politically correct, and i hate that im paying for an API that refuses certain prompts because they were considered inappropriate or because it thinks that it should not be giving me its analysis on a certain subject.
has anyone dabbled with using an open source LLM and made their own lite version of ChatGPT minus all the restrictions ?
i know its not gonna be as good, but at the very least free from the constraints12 -
Rules and policies are just for discussions and arguments. When you really have a problem on production, all you need a solution without any law.
You are allowed to execute Alter, Restart Server, Deploy some hacks and many more :D -
Finally, after a long time and excuses....
updated my profile on job portals...
Ready to study ..... Best is waiting.... -
Got a XPS 15 (2016 design) and after 3 months I've had it, going back to mb pro. Sleek design and all, but they keyboard/track pad is garbage, and the rest is dust/oil/everything magnet!1
-
one of the projects i maintain is something no one else knows much about in the company. its a huge project which maintaining is a nightmare that casued previous ppl to quit.
i have been vigilant for 1.5 years, finally they agreed to give me help. so we got another dev to help.
i was given a bunch of tasks, he was given a few as well. Now he convinced everyone in the company that he is the owner of the project...and everyone thinks i handed over the project to him...
why are people pieces of attention seeking shit ?2 -
Gotta love when you come across an interesting piece of software with a modern, sleek, and snazzy homepage. Then you press "Sign up" and are redirected to an ancient 90's web app whose first element after the body is a table.
-
I used to tell people i can put a google map on their website and charge for the installing the free service. Now the service is not free. Fuck Google, i used to love everything they stood for. Now i can see the corrupt greedy assholes in their true faces. Web development will never be the same.2
-
I need to get an office outside home to work in. I was supposed to finish a project this weekend and i didn’t because i just chilled in the comfort of my room all day.6
-
Only dev in the company, couple of on going wordpress projects, just left without notice period. Im going to hell arnt I.
Explanation: I had not yet signed any contracts because the boss “trusted me” i just completed 3 months (standard probation period in other companies) but just got a job offer with triple the salary but recruiters seemed in a rush and i figured i might lose my shot if i told them to wait. Keep in mind in my country that kind of salary is impossible to get for a 21 yr old dev.1 -
200 searchable records (heavily searched and essential to the app) kept getting deleted from their index on our search engine.
we couldnt figure out why, but we wanted to resolve this quickly next time it happens so we got them back up, duplicated the index, and whenever we see they got deleted we resync them from the replica.
Eventually i found that there was a piece of code that updates the index by deleting everything from it and uploading everything back but it was buggy in doing the latter.3 -
now... Im just tired and bored of what i do. i had a very hectic year rewriting a core functionality in my company, it was full of optimizations, logic improvements and learning new things.
I took 10 days off hoping id come hating my job less. I learned kotlin and worked on a personal server side project with it during the vacation and honestly i loved it. I missed learning new languages and concepts.
so i thought, well if i enjoyed coding during the vacation then my burnout is cured right ? well once i went back to work today I felt like shit and couldn't do a thing. disgusted of the idea coding for my employer. Too tired to continue my personal project after 8 hours of my job
I guess im back to square one2 -
When you wanna update yourself from jquery and learn react but your boss says its more profitable for the company to keep working with wordpress so no time for coding related research. So now i have to do it in the very little free time i have at home 😭1
-
I have a CS undergrad friend who is not learning anything outside of uni and in my country, that will automatically kill your career. I am trying to get him to start coding and learning new languages and frameworks, and do projects, but he has a full time job as a cashier and doesn’t have the time. But i know if I get him to do these things he could probably find a part time dev job that pays just as much. How can you help a complete rookie become a dev in the least amount of time and effort ?3
-
After you spent 3 years going into web development and eventually becoming good at it then you realize mobile apps sell for way more money than a website because of the existence of wordpress, wix, shopify... Like i aint shitting everything i learned so i can learn kotlin and swift from scratch. Like wtf is wrong with the market, software is software. Fucking fuck my life.1

How many times did u face a bug, debug it, the debugging / printing vars shows nothing should be wrong, so when u stop u just find the bug is...gone?2

Hey guys, i made a program years back and just refactored the thing and gave it a nice GUI. I made it mostly so I can use it in my daily life which I do but now I might release it as open source and give it to some friends. But I’m facing A problem i never faced before...giving it a name. Need some help 😂
Basically, i have tons of series, so i created it to maintain a nice naming convention for the videos but obviously can work for any file list.
- it renames them in a couple of different ways (replacing string occurrences in the file names, appending - prepending strings, completely renaming it alphanumerically. Anyway I use those features most (OCD i know)
- it also grabs subtitles for movies and series (parses its way through subscene and yifisubtitles until it gets to download the zip file and extracts it for me) .
- It also plays random episodes for me when im confused what to rewatch ( just opens a random file in a directory u point it to)
So any name suggestions ?1 -
Ok, so i got an epic requirement from business.
Business wants to implement something like this. On a save click this popup should be opened with further 2 options "Save" and "Save As" having radio button in front of each button to enable and disable the buttons and input boxes and obviously error/success message should be
displayed according to the option selected.
Team denied to work on the requirement.5 -

Does AngularJS still have momentum. I toyed with it for a while on a side project. Since then .Net Core launched and most of my work (both day to day and side projects has been in MVC 5 or .Net Core)
I wanted to go back to tinkering with that one side project but it seems that some of the hype surrounding AngularJS has died off.6 -
i got into reddit recently (yes never tried reddit before). I love it. and i always loved devrant but now i cant stop wondering... couldnt have all this been replaced with a subreddit?
(i tried looking into tech subreddit, but still didn't find a tech ranting subreddit yet which im finding to be very odd)7 -

I started with cakephp 2. I did a TON of projects with it and made my own reusable plugins for future projects and everything was nice and smooth.
then cakephp 3 came out with breaking changes and was not backwards compatible. I learned the new rewritten ORM and tried to do a project with it along with plugins.
then cakephp 4 came out with breaking changes and was not backwards compatible...
ok... look i dont claim to know more than the people writing frameworks but u want people to use ur framework u cant fuck them up in every major release and render their old projects unupgradable... fuck you im switching to laravel this was the last straw3 -
Any good linear algebra resources, preferably videos explained elegantly without much expectation of previous knowledge.5

if im gonna need to show ms word and pdf files i will need an iframe or object embed and i cant disable right clicks or listen on ctrl s / p.
any ideas or should i not go for the project :(12 -

Why on earth would anyone agree to work in a company that sends your code to some other team to check it then you get stupid comments like yes it works great but make the code look like the code in that system we made 10 years ago so everything can look the same. Easier for maintenance.
That is not how programming works ...
Code has an essence to it...
You cant just make me break the ...
Honestly id rather work for less money and never have my code questioned on the bases that “it should look like...”1 -
Once upon a time in the bustling city of Techville, there lived a talented web developer named Alex. Known for their exceptional coding skills and innovative designs, Alex had a reputation as a brilliant but often solitary worker. Despite their immense talent, they often struggled with social interactions and found it challenging to connect with their colleagues.
One sunny morning, as Alex arrived at the sleek offices of WebWizards Inc., they noticed a new face amidst the sea of familiar coworkers. Her name was Lily, a warm and friendly individual with an infectious smile. Alex couldn't help but be drawn to her positive energy and kind nature.
Over time, as they worked on various projects together, Alex and Lily formed an unexpected bond. Lily's patience and willingness to collaborate made their partnership seamless. She recognized Alex's expertise and valued their creative input, which helped foster a deep sense of mutual respect.
As their professional relationship grew, Alex began to see beyond the surface of the company they worked for. They realized that WebWizards Inc. was more than just a business; it was a family of talented individuals who genuinely cared about one another. The company fostered an inclusive and supportive environment, encouraging personal growth and celebrating achievements.
One day, overwhelmed by gratitude for both Lily and the company they worked for, Alex decided to express their feelings. They sat down and poured their heart out, typing a heartfelt message of appreciation and admiration. Alex couldn't contain their excitement as they hit the "Send" button, eagerly awaiting a response.
To their delight, Lily responded promptly with overwhelming joy and gratitude. She confessed that she had also felt a strong connection with Alex and considered them an invaluable asset to the team. Furthermore, she shared that the supportive culture and caring nature of WebWizards Inc. had made her job more fulfilling and enjoyable.
The two coworkers became closer friends, their collaboration flourishing both in and out of the office. Alex's once-rare smiles became more frequent, and their confidence grew. They no longer felt like an outsider but an integral part of a wonderful community.
Together, Alex and Lily continued to create outstanding web projects, surpassing expectations and leaving their clients amazed. Their passion and dedication were fueled by the genuine camaraderie they shared with their colleagues at WebWizards Inc.
As time passed, Alex realized that their journey as a web developer had been transformed not only by their skills but also by the amazing people they had the privilege to work with. They learned that a kind coworker and a supportive company could make a world of difference, turning an ordinary job into an extraordinary experience.
And so, the tale of Alex, Lily, and the remarkable WebWizards Inc. serves as a reminder that in the vast realm of work, the bonds we form and the culture we foster can be as impactful as the tasks we accomplish.11 -
Ive gotten pretty good at web dev that most projects seem easy so i just tell myself i could probably finish the whole thing over next weekend if i spent the entire day coding.
I end up procrastinating my way till last minute, sometimes screw over deadlines, i just cant get myself to want to work on it. and i keep accepting projects for the money and throw myself in this guilt tripping loop every time.
what can i do to get myself to work on freelancing? (in my actual full time job im very productive coz mostly the project i work on is my passion but freelance is just too much of a drag!)9 -

Last employer -- a major health care insurance carrier -- had over a million current and former subscribers data in SQL database with no encryption on SSN or other personally identifiable information. I reported this as an issue, and was told that since they had intrusion detection, etc. they don't need to encrypt the data. Guess they have never heard of zero day vulnerabilities or disgruntled employees?

can you use elastic search as a search engine for your app ?
because i see several weak points in it.
the increased latency after every bulk uploading of docs, meaning u cant ensure fast response time for users
the inability to add synonyms without closing the index ? this is either downtime or ill have to replicate an index to update the original and then switch back to it !!
idk i feel i either must have wrong info or elastic is very inefficient. I might be wrong, not too experienced with it so if I am let me know of some good resources and workarounds that helped you3 -
when you find a project you'd like to clone and learn about but you cant even get their examples to build locally...
yes im looking at YOU every c based project on github.5 -
depends,
the me who started learning at first felt proud that i gained skills all alone by watching tutorials, reading docs and making projects for fun. He would have said boot camps are for lazy and unmotivated people
the present me would say, i wish i could be spoon-fed everything i need in a bootcamp rather than spending hours on learning new tech -
Going forward everything will be built on js and we won't be carrying java anymore. Whether its UI thing or lambda functions on AWS. This is what the idea floating in my organization.

omg guys, i've been researching about keyboard for like a week, and haven't settled with any choices. kinda hard with tight budget ($50 to $112). i want a compact, mechanical keyboard primarily for typing (i prefer with keypad but maybe optional if removing that making the keyboard look sleek) and also i don't like surface and apple style thin keyboard. what do you guys use ?7
-
my government stores peoples car registration (name mobile number car plate number etc..) in a Microsoft access file locally. there is only one branch in the country to register ur car.
the file is on that computer, u can bribe the guy 20$ to copy it to ur USB.
so what should i do with the copy?
people used to make websites and apps that give u personal info of a person given his plate number (so u can call him and tell him to move his car if he blocks u and stuff 🤣)
but such sites and apps keep getting reported and closed.
i was thinking a telegram bot ? idk whats the best way to do it without being closed down7 -
i waste time learning a language or a framework ik i cant ever use at work because i like the way it "feels" and looks.
while others learn stuff we actually need to use at work and will end up outranking me
